Excellent game. I tried to like the first one but prefering solo play, I found it was heavily designed for co-op. Remnant 2 is far superior, with just about everything upgraded or addressed from the first one. Absolutely love it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

    Arsenal Incompleto: Diversidad Desaprovechada

    Veredicto Final: Un Intento Desvanecido

I'm really enjoying the game. I'm a bit lost on the story but that's probably due to the fact that I didn't play the first one. Doesn't really matter though because the gameplay is fun. Having people to play with makes tougher fights much more manageable. I was able to group with my friends on PS5 by finding and joining their game when interacting with the red crystal. That said, it would be great if there was also a way to send invites. Also, there doesn't seem to be in game voice chat at this time which is a bummer. Hopefully they add these features at some point. Have only encountered one bug in like 10 hours of play where I got pushed through a wall when an enemy grabbed me requiring me to log out and back in. Framerate is stable at 60fps on balanced setting. Not perfect, but having a lot of fun. No regrets on the purchase. Expand

The first remnant came out of nowhere for me. A friend suggested it, and we played it together. I was hooked and ended up Platting it. Ever since then I was looking forward to a sequel. That day is finally here!

If you played the first one and enjoyed it, then I have no doubt in my mind that you will enjoy this even more. Improved graphics and game play all around, melee is more viable than the first and the guns feel tight and varied from each other.

The introduction of new and unlockable secret archetypes is a great addition.

A lot of the dungeons feel like you're playing detective if you want to find everything in them and that is a good thing. Especially in co-op where you can work with a friend to solve the puzzles,

HUGE replayability make this one I will keep coming back to for numerous runs, as each time you spawn a game it randomizes the game so that you will face new bosses and layouts through your different playthroughs.

It does not change much gameplay wise from the first, but didn't need to as they have a great formula...

I highly recommend this game! If you can find a buddy or two to co-op it with, it makes the game even better,

    Bad-
Dynamic threat generation can go a little overboard at times. Controller settings, particularly sensitivity and deadzones, could use some more work. Some narrative bits feel awkward, and the player's constant callouts are annoying. Slight camera issues in tight spaces and a bit of jank.

    Thoughts-
Saying that Remnant 2 is more Remnant isn’t inaccurate, but it’s far from being just more of the same. Quirks and issues aside, the sequel offers so much variety, challenges, environments, features and customization while delivering a compelling, well-paced journey. Sure, it doesn’t break the mold for compelling third-person shooter action, but it’s a worthy sequel that fans will love.

    - The very first character roll is "diverse" when choosing a character
    - The first NPC you see is "diverse" female girlboss
    - The first male NPC you see is a submissive weakling
    - The VERY FIRST journal entry I found was some stupid socialist fable about two animals stuck on a raft in the ocean. The large one has a big loaf of bread and needs to keep its strength up, so it gives the tiny(really tiny) one just a bit of the bread each day. 3 days later and they reach land, but the tiny one dies. SO FKNG WHAT? Who writes this progressive diarrhea?
    - I didn't understand a single thing that was going on during the intro, except that there were 2 girlbosses doing stuff.

Gameplay is clunky as hell. I can't remap the run button to circle, there aren't even any alternative button bindings. There's not even an option to toggle auto-aim or stronger auto-aim. It's like a direct PC port with minimum effort.

DO NOT waste your money on the Deluxe. The items and gear you get are AN ABSOLUTE JOKE.

Saying this game is like Dark Souls is like saying that I'm like Serena Williams because I can swing a tennis racket.

Really, though, is it Dark Souls With Guns? Or is it just playing into hype/marketing? It has Estus Flasks. And rolling! That's basically what Dark Souls is, right? Or maybe it's because I died several times. Dying in a game makes that game Dark Souls by a technicality,

Really, though, is it Dark Souls With Guns? Or is it just playing into hype/marketing? It has Estus Flasks. And rolling! That's basically what Dark Souls is, right? Or maybe it's because I died several times. Dying in a game makes that game Dark Souls by a technicality, I think.

If you turn your head and squint, you might see some other games in there too. Is it more of a looter-shooter like Destiny? After all, guns can be found on the ground in both games. Or even in boxes. There's a young companion who banters with you, does that mean this game is the same as The Last of Us?

The first area I ended up in was 'Bloodborne Town', or as I like to call it 'Yharnam but from WIsh' (or perhaps "Mom, can we get Bloodborne?", "Son, we have Bloodborne at home"). The game itself bears a faint, superficial resemblance to Dark Souls, and following this trend this area has a shallow resemblance to Bloodborne. A couple of cobblestone streets and a few burned buildings was all it took, huh?

By inviting this comparison it really brings to light the things that Bloodborne succeeds at. World Design. By its very (procedurally-generated) nature, this game really doesn't have "World Design", which is a shame because this is what Dark Souls really excels at. Sure, there are things to explore, maybe a chest here and there, but it all rings pretty hollow. Yharnam itself is like a character in the game. Twisted cobblestone streets feed back around into each other, loop back, form random tangents, like the thoughts of a tormented mind. It's easy to get turned around. It's almost like in a dream.

I found this game difficult to navigate, but for the wrong reasons. There aren't any good vantage points to look around, it really is just a series of narrow hallways. When you can look around everything is obscured by smoke. Think about looking over the streets of Yharnam, its mottled sky, its twisted landscape of gothic architecture in full view. There is a map but it is not overly useful by nature since it is procedural. I had a hard time remembering points of interest and found myself just walking in circles on dead, empty streets trying to find things.

How integrated are the story, the worldbuilding, the themes and gameplay? Let's think about Bloodborne. You start out in the evening time, the sun is setting. Progress the game and the sun sets, casting the city in a mysterious, dark tone. New, more threatening enemies appear. As the world changes and the night progresses, the terrible dream becomes a darker and more dangerous nightmare. You can die, but even death is no escape. You return to the Hunters Dream only to be reborn again. And like your rebirth, this same night, this same hunt repeat over and over in a vicious cycle. Yharnam is bathed in blood during the long night, hunters rise to quell the beasts, the sun rises again, rinse and repeat. Seamlessly integrated themes and gameplay. Astounding!

Difficulty is another hot topic. It's kind of difficult, I guess. Maybe it's time to git gud? I don't know. It really didn't seem difficult in the ways I wanted it to be. More health and damage. Upgrade your stuff? Well, the enemies upgrade themselves too. More health and damage. Change the difficulty? Well, that's more enemy health and enemy damage. I found myself emptying entire clips into many basic enemies just to bring them down. The bosses multiply this effect. The first boss of Teemo Bloodborne seemed to have loads of health, on top of being a pretty boring encounter where I literally ran in a circle for several minutes.

If the intention was to pit this game against Dark Souls, with its world-class level design, integrated gameplay, carefully designed encounters, and tight fluid combat, I think it really falls on its face. I mean this game has some fancy textures and graphics, sure, but from a visual design point of view it is just no contest. Think about the first portion of this game compared to Elden Ring. Think about the very first time you opened the tomb doors and stepped out into the light. Think about the Erdtree, the colors, the lighting. Think about how - visually - you were drawn into the world, to see and explore every nook. All in the first 5-15 minutes!

If the intention was NOT to pit this game against Dark Souls, then it's simply a bland, uninspired world, a completely skippable plot, boring characters with inane chatter filling their dialogue trees, propped up with decent shooty gun stuff, trying to piggyback on the success of a beloved franchise.

Is there something I'm missing here? Maybe. Maybe I need to put way more hours to truly get this game. I doubt I'll try, since within the first several hours this game didn't do even 1 single thing to impress me, make me feel invested, or get me interested in the characters or the story. Put your best foot forward, I say.

It's good but I wish they leaned more into better gunplay rather than staying with the souls dodge based gameplay. Don't get me wrong it does work with fast paced games (Bloodborne is one of the best ever made) but in a third person rogouelike it falls a little flat. I would have preferred something like Returnal or Risk of Rain 2. This just gets repetitive fast.

You know the one where the girl runs through a cave and unreal 5 was meant to give us 100s of super textured, detailed statues in real time lighting ? This is one of the worst looking games this year. The game is mechanically solid, but gameplay gets boring real soon. Typical repetitive play. Its post apocalyptic, as per the course for all modern games, and there is nothing new. Like most games this year, it's basically...boring.

Also, this game is full of woke nonsense, as per the normal for media these days. Stop peddling the rubbish and get on with making a game.

If this is unreal 5, please can we go back to unreal 4?

Not being able to play with your friends during an early access period doesn't make this game a 0. That is just people being disappointed. The first game was an 8. This game basically improved on everything so this game is a 9. If you enjoy the gameplay loop, which most will, you will get a lot of hours of fun out of this game.

The game is somewhat fun at first and challenging. The graphics are solid and the worlds are unique to one another. The bosses are not too difficult, but do get difficult based on number of players and some add additional mechanics. Build creativity adds a lot of interest for me.

Even though they hid extra classes and made worlds slightly random, the game still feels incredibly repetitive. It's obvious they were trying to create a Bloodbourne style shooter with a painful difficulty slider.

They brought over terrible mechanics from the first game.

    1) Automatically increase power level in co-op when another picks up a weapon you have. This is bad because the game scales with your power level so if its a weapon you are not using the game gives you a power level nonethelessless. STUPID. Makes me not want to co-op (Just like in first game). This mechanic forces the player to level up (beyond archetype level and traits).

    2) If co-op was required to succeed, then why not be cross platform. ARCHAIC.

    3) New Mechanic - Limiting trait points to 60. ABSURD. I want to feel powerful (or not gimped) as I try your impossible difficulties.

And then there are broken mechanics. Like Blood Moons spawning wisps. You can spawn numerous Blood Moons and never get a Wisp in the forests even when they are completely opened up. And they make you farm the wisps in a forest where you can't see the moon 90% of the time. IDIOTIC.

Broken bosses that cause reroll of the world.

The easiest difficulty is not easy at all - especially when it comes to the last boss. The last boss tries very hard to give gamers a seizure - I really think it tries. The last boss was a huge disappointment for me.

Anyone that gives this game a 10 has a low bar and probably pays their kids for D's in school. Anyone who gives it a zero is trolling.

Gunplay feels absolutely satisfying and the option of the Adventure Mode is awesome to clear up Trophys and reroll to get another Version of a World without loosing your Campaing Progress.

Also you‘ll get the Ultimate Edition with the Season Pass for like 70€, while other Games Baseprice is somewhere at 70-80€ and on PS5 I had no Issues expect of the weird Performance Mode with unlimited FPS. Balanced Mode has no issues for me with 60FPS as a cap!

I liked Remnant 1 especially for its coop feeling. Sadly part 2 has exactly the same strengths and weaknesses as its predecessor. The game feels at times really unbalanced, performance is definitely not the strongest point and some bosses are very hard.

If the game wants to go souls-like then skip difficulty options as a whole but if you decided to give a choice they should be better

If the game wants to go souls-like then skip difficulty options as a whole but if you decided to give a choice they should be better balanced. The beginning as a whole feels very hard until you get the character somewhat going. Melee feels unproperly implemented in regards to enemy types and bosses (most of them are distant, flying)

Again the gameplay is strongest in coop. The classes feel okay-ish but I think they shouldnt hide more than 50% of the classes behind unlocks. Last but not least I feel the item variety is lacking by a lot (and seems worse than in 1) - some unlocked weapons are again - not very viable or very situational. Considering you have limited slots they should be more versatile.

Currently I am a bit torn on whether I would recommend it. For the reduced price tag and a sale I think it is a worthwhile game if you enjoy gunplay and a souls-like difficulty threshold.

But in Remnant 2 they had the very bad idea to block the traits points gathering at 60 so now after completing the game, did beat every boss solo, after 35 hours I feel bored and I don't see any good reason to keep playing.
Don't get me wrong Remnant is a good game, I like the new class system, the gameplay is still great, the graphic are nice but it feel shorter than the first game without even tinking about the limit in traits points.
    Story is average.
    Sound is fine.
It's the same lame coop system where you need to touch a crystal to reset, that cause chaos when you are 3 peoples online but that do the job at least.
It could have been game of the year for me but it really piss me off to see the animation on the screen when I receive a new trait points but it doesn't count because i'm already at 60.

Even the hard ones are hard for the wring reasons...fast moving things coming at you from all directions. The boss itself always just needs a rolling dodge (tedious dodge roll dodge roll) here or there.. mediocrity at its worst.peplTO BE FAIR: I play solo only. Sounds like multi-player is the way to go.

Its ok from a casual fan looking in ; Graphics are sub passable but are still in the middling Ps4 era so nothing outstanding in visuals or resolution ; controls feel firm and responsive; so far the story is engaging enough on its own to want to know more about this world and universe ; so far the gameplay is decent enough to keep playing better than FF16 for me at this point

I never played Remnant: From the Ashes. I heard decent things but never decided to sink my teeth into the game. I saw trailers for Remnant 2 and thought it looked good, and bought it shortly after release. I am overall glad that I did, although the game is not without its flaws.

I heard people say that Remnant was basically "Dark Souls With Guns", which I think is pretty dumb, but somewhat accurate. Remnant is definitely heavily inspired by the "Souls-Like" genre, but it does a lot of things to distinguish itself. The gameplay feels nothing like classic Souls-Likes. This is in large part due to the gunplay, which I found to be consistently solid throughout my platinum playthrough. Sure, there's a dodge with i-frames and replenishable healing items, but beyond that kind of basic stuff, Remnant 2 feels very solid and unique as a game. It is not a Souls clone.
Like I said, the gameplay is solid. It's nothing to write home about but it works. The enemy types are lacking in diversity, but there is enough to keep you entertained at least for your first playthrough. Some bosses are pretty good and interesting, others are not. The difficulty doesn't feel super well-balanced all the time. The various worlds are overall solid and interesting (N'Erud stands out as a clear weakest link to me though.) The visuals are sufficient and the art direction is excellent. Sound design is pretty good. Performance has its problems, I had some occasional stutters but nothing crazy. One aspect of the game that stands out as particularly good is the secrets. There are so many convoluted secrets in this game it's crazy. The game is fairly short, but if you explore every world and their variants, you may stumble upon (or use a guide to find) a lot of really cool side stuff that provides you with unique weapons, traits, armor, etc. This is probably the strongest part of the game. Despite the worlds becoming repetitive after a couple rolls, the depth of the hidden side content was impressive and well-integrated into the game.
Story is pretty weak, however. 'Main' characters don't really matter that much and feel like filler rather than quality content. The lore found throughout the world via environment and text tend to be much more compelling than the aggressively bland main narrative. Good thing pretty much no one that plays this game seriously or knows anything about Remnant is in it for the story.
So, all said and done, Remnant 2 is a game that does a lot of things pretty well, one or two things very well, and one or two things poorly. Overall, it all balances out to a solid package that I think is worth the $50. It's pretty good, but not mind-blowing.

This game is nothing special at all.

Its maybe worth playing if you are searching for a 3-player Coop game. If you are 2, I recommend Atlas Fallen as it at least has a real world to explore and stuff.

This game has everything an OG gamer and new school gamer could want. There's no shortage of fun and challenge to be had. The combinations a player can make their character seem endless. The gun play puts COD and so many others to shame. Been a long time since I've played a game multiple run throughs and not gotten bored. Excellent game and a 9/10 must play.

As a gamer who has at one time enjoyed, but since grown tired of games like Diablo, Division, and Destiny, I thought I could never love another loot shooter/dungeon crawler again. But Remnant II has changed all that.

Enemy boss encounters are interesting and a breath of fresh air. There are puzzles to solve instead of just mindlessly plowing through sprites with a left mouse click like Diablo. When you find new "loot" its exciting instead of a chore (like it is in Diablo).

Remnant is an incredible game and deserves all the accolades I am sure are coming for it. Its definitely my game of the year.

This is my very first Souls-Like game and I am finding it challenging at first but as I continue to play this game is an absolute blast to play.

I am leveling up my character type and even started a 2nd archetype for a dual class character. The worlds are beautiful to explore, the creatures fiercely gruesome and the sound through the 3D Sony headphones makes for a very immersive

Excited to see the 3x pieces of planned DLC announced during launch as part of the Deluxe Edition and what new fascination worlds or beasties they might bring to this game.

Solid 9 rating and easy recommendation for anyone looking to play a challenging “Souls Like” style game on their PlayStation 5

Great game that comes without any Season Pass, Microtransactions or Ingame Shop. The story is okay, but that is not the reason why this game is actually good. Dont release a game if it has a bug that makes it so you cant even get past the tutorial. I had an absolute blast playing this game. There are definitely a few things I wish were better but the core gameplay mechanics are there and the devs did an amazing job, especially for $50 retail. Definitely buying all DLC and hopes the successful sales of this game will allow the devs to continue to make amazing games. Maybe not GotY but the most fun I’ve had in a while!

Developer Gunfire Games returns with the more polished sequel Remnant II. Players itching for an open world of brutality can take on a randomized campaign for hours of entertainment. Like its predecessor, the plot steps away from the forefront while the gameplay does all the talking. Defend yourself and your teammates against swarms of deadwood, and other massive entities until you conquer The Root. The immersive atmosphere and quick thinking mechanics will be your best distraction this year. In all, this sequel displays Gunfire Games' efforts in listening to their fandom and polishing that feedback. Any gamer can find enjoyment and satisfaction when they tune in unaccompanied, but the real fun begins once your friends join the fight.

Remnant II is capable of surprises with its varied world design, and offers an enjoyable co-op experience, but its combat loop is needlessly stodgy and repetitive. [Issue#31, p.70]

A masterful mix of souls-like and rogue-like elements with some excellent third person shooting, makes Remnant 2 a game you can sink hundreds of hours into and still not get enough.
