Adds depth to an already incredible base game. Only wish there was more of it. The final battle is with the price alone, just fantastic stuff from Guerilla.

They had, so little time to develop the relationship it felt like they knew that most people can't relate to Aloy or understand her because they made her Into this badass character that had almost no emotion, and the little bit of it we do see in the games always get cut short, so it was like they knew they wanted Aloy to have a partner and have her be a little more relatable and they built up from there with the relationship it would have been better if they tried this in the next horizon so they could have built up the relationship more in-depth and with the rest of the story it felt kinda cliche with the. Oh we killed the enemy but one of them escaped, so we have to go get them other than those aspects of it your average DLC that you’ll have fun with and be able to see the beautiful environments and the amazing recreation of LA that look so much better than the base game which is why I think it was a good decision to have it only be on PS5 you could see the difference between the two, so if you liked Forbidden West you will enjoy Burning Shore’s. I normally don’t write an online review but this DLC doesn’t deserve this low review just because of ignorance and homophobia. The graphic is amazing, probably the best I’ve seen so far, gameplay is great with awesome boss battle. Story telling is top notch, in line with Aloy’s character development from HZD and then HFW. Great job Guerrila. Can’t wait for Horizon 3.

Burning Shores is a fantastic dlc with faults. Over 10 hours of all side stuffs and finished the main plot of the dlc my time with it is gracious enough that the next game will be Aloy's final journey or think it will be. Graphics looks outstanding and by saying this you can how much detailed the dlc had hats off to the dev team here good job! Now of course crashes has been frustrating, certain quests just doesn't pop up or can progress on however reloading it fixed the problem but still that's a major issue. Loading times seems more longer than usual well for me I've noticed maybe 5 seconds longer before the dlc. Story, now this is more of a setup to the next game like a preview sort of speak. It was definitely weaker than The Frozen Wilds but it's still enjoyable and fun to explore the wasteland of LA and the lore of the new tribe is also to understand the Burning Shores lore. But the Frozen Wilds is definitely better than The Burning Shores story wise though, I think The Burning Shores is vastly better on gameplay and likeable character named Seyka. I personally can't wait for these two Aloy and Seyka to partner up and fight the next villain in the next game. My overall score is a 7 due technical issues and a weaker story but if patches fix these problems I'll definitely change my score. Expand

For goodness sake, why do game journalists continue to praise this story DLC business model? Enough already. They are only encouraging these developers to be greedy and lazy. Just imagine if this greedy practice was a trend before the 360/PS3 era. Then we would have to theoretically pay an additional $20 for GTA San Andreas to get the desert and Las Vegas inspired city, alongside the missions and content like the jetpack.

Just to be clear, I didn't buy this DLC. But that doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on this trash. I did spent $60 on Horizon Bug-ridden West, so I do believe I am entitled to have an opinion on this poor excuse of a DLC. I shouldn't have to pay an additional $20 to get content that should've been in the game in the beginning. It's not like this DLC has a big improvement on physics or anything. I bet it's just another stupid map full of plants, trees, rocks and water with a few LA landmarks. I have nothing against the LGBT community or whatever extra letters and symbols these SJWs add. But I am not going to sit here and pretend these developers don't have a political agenda. They make it so obvious. To anyone calling this game woke, that is literally every AAA game. Every AAA game studio has made it clear they've gone woke in 2020. If that's not clear enough, just wait until 2024.

If only this DLC had multiplayer, then it might've been worth purchasing. When I pay full price for a game, I expect the complete singleplayer game. Look at RDR2, that's a complete game for $60. While TLOU2 is still an incomplete game, I can at least appreciate that Naughty Dog gave us the complete singleplayer experience without resorting to DLC, even if I hated that game. Even if ND and Rockstar do have story DLC for those games in the future, It's already been multiple years after release. My problem is having story DLC within a 1 year timeframe. You mean to tell me these greedy developers couldn't wait 1 year to release the complete game for $60? Oh that's right, then the greedy developers wouldn't get that extra $20. I don't ever want to see this garbage trend again Sony, or from any game studio for that matter. If these money hungry developers are going to have story DLC, they better wait at least 20 months before releasing it. I don't recommend this DLC at all.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I want to start off with some positives because the level of world/character detail and battle mechanic additions were phenomenal. I had a blast changing up my play style to accommodate the new environment and some new machines. Not to mention the final horus fight. The devs really pushed this and it shows so I cannot wait to see how this looks in the next installment.

Now my critique: the story felt like FW but just condensed way down with a villain reskin.

Aloy only just got comfortable hugging people and opening up about Rost — but her dynamic with Seyka felt super rushed because we haven’t had time to bond with her like other characters in Aloy’s story. They always hinted that potential romantic options could be introduced in future games. Most fans don’t care which side of the fence she lands on (if at all) and just want her happy. It’s the fact they jammed this in a DLC instead of letting it continue to naturally build in the next installment with those special moments is what most people are upset about. Something this complex, important, and potentially story influencing should not have been introduced in a DLC.

It was good to see moments where she cared about how Seyka was feeling and wanting to help there as much as completing the mission — as we’d expect in her current character arch. Aloy deserved a better paced moment, at a better time, with a character we didn’t rush to connect with, and when her growth has come more full circle. I had more of an emotional reaction getting reunited with Gildun than the entire DLC story.

And on a sidenote....I'm all for bashing ostentatious woke content, but this ain't it..... not only is pursuing this romantic scene entirely optional for your character, but it's just one tiny little scene at the end. It's not like they're forcing some gross, unskippable sex scene in your face (looking at you TLOU2).

Overall....worth my $20, but just barely. Guerrilla did a much better job with the first game's DLC and should return to that style of narrative.

And I’m not saying this DLC is bad, maybe just lacking.

    The great things is:
The scenery is amazing, I love the lava
I love the side question with the person back from frozen wild. And it was so lovely and sad at the end there. I loved it
I loved the fight with the metal devil! It was fantastic!

    The bad stuff is:
First of all seyka.. I have nothing against aloy being BI or gay or whatever! It’s just that this relationship felt forced… I thought she was a fine character and all but I didn’t like it like that we were in love in someone that we barely got to know… just because she is similar to us, doesn’t mean we should love her….
Personally I’m a fan of erond but I’d be find with Alva, so Petra, or anyway we really know better and have more of a relationship with…

There were a few graphic problems but I can brush that off to being a new game and all, I don’t mind too much.
Why did they move kotallo and everyone? Sorta sad…
Im a Little sad there wasn’t as much to do in this game… no tallneck or anything… a little sad..
but I can live with it
Also a little confused about what happened with sylens at the end there?

I’m a big fan of forbidden west though, I love the friendships that are made!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I went into this with the expectation I’d visit the Burning Shores and fight a Metal Devil, but unfortunately Aloy’s focus malfunctioned during the trip and ended up directing her to the Lesbian Shores instead. By the end of the story it full on turned into the Burning Scissors while I was begging to go back to the Forbidden West and pretend this was all a crazy dream.

Jokes aside, I’ve never really been difficult to impress and I’ve loved Horizon since the beginning so Burning Shores should’ve easily been a 10/10 for me, but my god did Guerrilla drop the ball on this one. My excitement for Horizon 3 is almost completely dead after this pointless CW love story that was shamelessly pushed and forced throughout despite Aloy literally knowing this chick for like 2 days to a week max. I don’t have a problem with Aloy getting a love interest at some point, I’m just bothered that the first one has to be some random added via DLC. Great job Guerrilla, way to crap all over the other companion characters that have actual chemistry and history with Aloy since Zero Dawn. The very characters that fans actually care about only to get shafted just to push the woke agenda with a nobody that doesn’t even have a part in the main story of the base game.

I fail to see what’s so special about Seyka and why she’s equal to Aloy when in reality she’s basically a discount Aloy without any of her charm, super annoying and irritating the entire time to the point I was hoping she’d die at some point in the story. Their “bonding” all boils down to because Seyka fights machines and is an “outcast” among the Quen. Are we just supposed to ignore the fact that most of Aloy’s friends and allies also fight machines and are also “outcasts” to their tribes in some way?

-Talanah was an outcast among the Carja because in the Hunter’s Lodge members have traditionally been male only
-Kotallo is an outcast among the Tenakth because of his disability
-Zo was an outcast among the Utaru because she was against the way the leadership was handling the fact they were all going to starve to death and for trying to do something about it
-Petra was an outcast among the Oseram because in the Claim women aren’t allowed to do much besides get married
-Uthid straight up turned against the Shadow Carja

There’s more than that but I think I’ve made my point. The only things that save this is from being a complete disaster is the interactions at the beginning and end with Sylens (RIP Lance), the Horus fight, and the Gildun side quest. I’m still willing to give Horizon 3 a shot in the future but my expectations have gone way down and I don’t think that’s going to change anytime soon. Especially if they choose to double down on this woke garbage.

While the DLC adds possibly the best boss fight in the series in my opinion, it is extremely short giving only a few hours of extra gameplay before beating the expansion.

There was also only one actually notable new enemy which is the frog robot. The waterwing is just a sunwing with extra steps as the game itself alludes to as you dont even need to take over a cauldron to override it.

The futuristic weapon also feels worse than just using the existing weapons in game, with the sharpshot bow outshining its railgun mode with around double the damage.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don’t normally write reviews but I love this franchise and I think this is the first time they have missed the mark. A lot of what happens in this DLC confused me. I don’t really get invested in relationships in media, whoever the writers and creators want the main character to end up with is fine with me but this storyline between Aloy and Seyka just felt forced and rushed, I’m not sure why they decided to condense their whole relationship into a DLC.

I feel their storyline would have been better if it played out over an entire full game or even multiple games like Forbidden West and the eventual third game. I feel like Aloy and Seyka being together at the end of the third game would be more believable. I get that Aloy doesn’t have the best social/people skills and feeling that way is new to her and being nervous all the time and fumbling with her words is what the writers were going for but I just couldn’t help but roll my eyes through all of Aloy’s dialogue about Seyka. It sounded weird and cringe. Again everything about their relationship felt forced.

Another big thing that confuses me is the choice to leave Aloy’s decision up to the players. I felt like the whole time they were trying to get the player to lean one way over the other. If that’s what they were doing why leave it up to the player? Why not just make it official? What does this mean going into the third game? Is Seyka going to be a side quest character and you make decisions based on what you chose at the end of the Burning Shores? Will some people have a storyline where Aloy has a girlfriend while some don’t? It seems clear to me the creative team wants Seyka to be a big character moving forward, so again, why leave it up to choice? What about the people who don’t end up playing the DLC? If Seyka is heavily featured in the third game those players are going to be lost when she shows up based on how the main game ends.

I only write this because I am a big fan of the franchise and the decisions the creatives made just really confused me. It felt like a lot to try and squeeze into a DLC. I feel the story would have been better if it was just Far Zenith and the Horus. I don’t know maybe it’s just me but most of the DLC just felt off.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Burning shores is just "a DLC" for Horizon Zero Dawn.

while the original game has beautifully captured the desperation and the lonelyness of a dying world collapsing in a dessater where everyone WILL die for the unfathomable small idea of having a genetical "ark" that carries on the legacy of humans on the planet they destroyed, in the last resting place of Elisabeth Sobek, and was intruiging with the slow story unfolding , the forbidden west left that trail and made two mistakes already from the start : leaving the one lonely person narrative and teaming Aloy (who, even in burning shores, is still acting beautifully that odd on eout character of Aloy) with way too many chartacters.. and on top to make it worse, some very annoying ones, too. While in Zero Dawn we just had some few "allies" that helped us with the final boss battle (which was good and great) in Forbiodden West we already had those obnoxious Utaruh who were just badly unrealisticly written, but you had just ONE side character, the diviner Alva the Quen, who was obnoxious and nerving but bearable.-

in Burning shores you get the nuissance directly bolted to your back. Seyka is a pain the the A$$ and the ears .. constantly moaning, annoying and complaining and stopping the game from progressing by just not moving and hindering the progression when the game needs her to lead the way..
In the End Aloy is somehow, out of some non obvious reasons, expected to somehow care for Seyka and even enter a romantic relationship with har while having had absoplutely no chemistry, common "things" or not even aligned goals because Aloy sees the larger pciture while Seyka is selfish to the end and only sees her objective, resuing her sister and nothing more while permanently belitteling Aloy and questioning her abilites and motives. (aka. "definitely not the chick i would fall in love with" )
If thats not painfull enough, the game breaks logic every second. One moment Seyka is scared to even climb the flying mount, the next occasion she is left alone on the mount she doesnt even control and performs world class evasive aerial maneuver against a giant horus, second later she doesnt know how to land that thing. Aloy singlehandedly defeats a Horus (at this time i zoned out, just wanting to finish the last bit of game.. somehow.. ) while millions of trained world class soldiers with weaponry far outclassing her scrap-metal bow could not bring down a single one of it during the collapse while Aloy effortlessly shreds another dozen of light reapers with her bow alone.. All while in the past, reapers could pluck tanks clean and then somehow stopped on top of them to pose for a picture .. we can find many tanks where some reapers just sit on top of them, not moving as if frozen in their last movement.. while accoring to lore noone was able to stop them, so they must have just stopped there from alone? .. somehow.?.

Aloy also acts stupid as per Script, she meets "the other half" of the Quen expedition , meets the head-honcho Admiral and perfectly forgets to tell them that their other half is still alive.. and that the whole CEO thing was a mistake and the cause of the Quen "Expedition" was already found and blew up.. (which she still doesnt tell after the end..)
The only character that is somehow still ok, is Sylens.. but since Lance died, we will probably not see anymore from him.
Less annyoing but still visible is the timeperiod of which Burning Shore is the brainchild 2020.. the main villain is a cookie cutter white corporate evil man, who wants to destroy everything in 1000 mile radius because he uses outdated rocket technology while there is a perfectly fine spaceship in the Zenith base that is ready to liftoff and waits for him.. while the "do better" slogan is painted in broad strokes all over the map. But to the rescue they were able to dial it back a bit. you still go and rescue the flamboyant boyfriend of a Quen guy who did not want to be rescued but at least you dont have to deal with them bickering .

this could have been such a great DLC.,. finding the last zenith, talking to him , maybe having to gain his trust, and then working towards their goals with mistrust and genuine obstacles would have made a good plot. Not the generic "Giant industry magnat who is a dork will enslave followers with "mind manipilation and hypnosis" to live forever as a god".. - Boooring- it would have been really "subverting expectations" to have made him "the good guy" in this episode.

one final coup de grace was when Seyka suddenly out of nowhere confesses her burning love to Aloy and Aloy could at least give the "i dont have time for this" answer.. that was genuinly a great moment. where the player had a good look into the mind and psyche of a war torn 19 year old who only knew killing or being killed. That was a very rare but precious and great moment.

the Rest ? was painfully mediocre..

Horizon Forbidden West is a highly anticipated sequel to the popular action-adventure game, Horizon Zero Dawn. While the game features stunning visuals, engaging gameplay, and an exciting storyline, it is not without its flaws. One of the main areas where the game falls short is in its inconsistent character development.

Throughout the game, players are introduced to a variety of interesting and complex characters, each with their own unique motivations and backstories. However, the game often fails to adequately explore these characters and their relationships, leaving players feeling disconnected from the story and its cast of characters.

In some cases, characters are introduced and then quickly forgotten, while in other cases, their motivations and actions seem to be at odds with their established personalities. This inconsistency in character development can be frustrating for players, as it can make it difficult to understand and empathize with the characters and their choices.

Furthermore, the game's dialogue and writing can be clunky at times, further exacerbating the issues with character development. While there are certainly standout moments and well-written scenes, the overall writing can be uneven and choppy, hindering the game's ability to fully explore and develop its characters.

Overall, while Horizon Forbidden West is a solid addition to the Horizon series, its inconsistent character development is a noticeable flaw that prevents it from reaching its full potential.

The DLC is a full game experience: cut scenes, voice acting, new robots to fight, another Cauldron to explore, and a lengthy boss fight. Best of all, the DLC introduces a fun new weapon. I really wanted more of this DLC to play with the new toys.

I’ve read reports that this DLC is the best looking PS5 content ever, but I didn’t think it looked any better than the base game. This whole cross generation debate is overblown. The DLC does look good and offers up more of the great use of color and light that makes the world of Horizon look better than the real world.

The story is a nice follow on if the base game. Something that bothers me a little is how nice Aloy is to all these jerks. I want her to say, “Don’t call me outlander, you dirty foreigner!” But that not Aloy’s style. She’s a good person and when I had my one chance to choose her reaction, I chose the heart option because I knew it would make Aloy happy. My one gripe is that this DLC needed a second tutorial. I didn’t remember much of any of the controls from base game. My preferred DLC model is actually a smaller stand alone game like Infamous First Light or Far Cry Blood Dragon. Boil down your game to the most fun elements and a story will no padding, and I’ll buy that every time. I understand the need for a DLC here, as the new tools can be brought back to the base game for some overpowered fun.

Full disclosure, my review here has nothing to do with the dollar per hour fallacy. DLC are never as good a deal as the bad game, and that is why I almost never buy DLC. (Frugal is as frugal does.) As DLC go, this is one of the best.

In the end, Burning Shores is incredibly easy to recommend. If you enjoyed Forbidden West or if you’re invested in the Horizon series’ larger story and where it’s headed, the expansion feels unmissable almost to a surprising degree, thanks to its strong story, how well it sets up the future, and the introduction of a great new character in Seyka. All of that is backed up by more exciting combat, engaging open world exploration and traversal, and stellar graphics. The end result? An excellent package that almost feels like it’s too good to be DLC.

Players learn that Aloy is gay or bisexual and there are indeed people in 2023 who have a big problem with that. Although more time or development should be taken for the romance, this DLC was still an extremely strong typical Horizen experience. The graphics and everything that goes with it is just S Tier. The DLC is among the most beautiful games you can find. The end game really shows what the PS5 is capable of. True next gen experience. Don't let the idiots tell you anything, they only hated the game because of the kiss scene. It's just like The last of us. The game was a masterpiece and a lot of people hated it because it didn't fit in their ideology that two women can love each other. Expand

Jogo bonito, mas enjoei rápido e a pior parte foi ter que ter jogado o jogo base para acessar a dlc.

HZD was my all-time favorite game, and its DLC was really excellent. I was disappointed with HFW because they went for quantity over quality with the weapons, outfits, skill trees, all the crazy keystroke combos to do moves, the valor surges, horse races, and arenas. Jeez!

Burning shores is fun in that you get some new missions to do in the world, but it's mostly just more of the same.

Burning shores is fun in that you get some new missions to do in the world, but it's mostly just more of the same. This time I didn't feel compelled to try to use those crazy moves so I ended up choosing a subset of weapons and blowing the rest off. The quests were not that interesting, there were not enough side quests, and the villain and his big machine were not very special either.

From her first introduction, I thought Seyka was whiny and annoying. It's unrealistic that Aloy would fall for a random, somewhat unpleasant person like her. Not once did I see anything she did that would have attracted Aloy. So that was just another disappointment. Totally fine that she's a woman, but there was almost zero character development.

So, meh on this one. But I'll probably still play a next one, if there is a next one. Why? I guess because I still get some HZD vibes here and there. Maybe they'll improve in the future...

A whole new part of the Forbidden West to explore, from the top of Los Angeles skyscraper ruins to the deep seas. Great continuation of the story (the main game's story must be completed to access the Burning Shores), plus hidden collectibles, a new cauldron and a new relic ruin.

I don’t know who writes negative reviews, but this is an interesting addition, with cool quests and an interesting story. Passed completely and received all the achievements)

this dlc is awesome, perfect graphics, I admit I found a small bug that forced me to redo a mission but nothing too serious, beautiful final battle and wonderful music

Що тут можна сказати. Можливо доповнення і хороше, але мене дуже розчаруволо те, що доповнення не вийшло на ps4. Тому вибачте, поставлю 6 балів

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After playing this dlc, I loved the storyline! I’m glad that there was more information about the Quen and their tribe. Although, the story could have been longer, with only a few missions until completion. The final boss Londra and the Horus Titan was pretty good though, it actually had some skill and challenge involved. Overall, this was a pretty decent DLC. For the price of £15, it’s pretty jam packed for such a cheap price. Expand

Beautiful, heart-warming and still just as action-filled. It scratched my itch for some more of the Horizon universe while also showing some refreshing sides to our heroine.

Burning Shores is a near masterclass in post-launch content. It adds new variety to the base game, takes further advantage of next-gen, and introduces characters I'm excited to see in the future. The villain wasn't very memorable and I could have used at least one other new machine to fight, so -1 point.

This game sets a new standard for graphics in gaming. Its combat mechanics are exhilarating, offering a satisfying blend of strategy and action. The final boss encounter is nothing short of awe-inspiring, delivering an unforgettable climax to an already remarkable experience.

This is a fantastic expansion pack. It is obvious that the down-rate brigade is all over this expansion pack because they don’t like the way the character is portrayed in the game. That kind of rant-rate is utter nonsense, and an immature, silly reason to downgrade an expansion pack to a video game. The way that the character is portrayed in the game is not offensive to anyone other than religious conservatives, and the players that are rate-bombing the game because they don’t like the character’s portrayal in the game as it does not match their idea of who the character should be are behaving no better than religious conservatives, a group infamous for throwing fits over anything they deem objectionable in pretty much everything everywhere. This is an incredibly immature response. On top of this expansion back being fantastic, fun to play, and a technological achievement, as well as a worthy follow up to an amazing core game, I am giving this expansion pack a perfect score on purpose to balance out the immature rant-rate campaign going on, carried out by a bunch of whiny individuals who think everything should be done the way they want it to be artistically or else, essentially holding the writers of the video game’s story hostage. A more mature response would have been to either say ‘Oh, well, that’s not what I’d hoped for but it’s a great expansion pack and I really enjoyed playing it’ or if that wasn’t possible for the individual than at least a ‘I don’t like this so I won’t play it’ response. ***eyeroll*** Expand

Loved the storyline!! It's great to see Aloy's personality develop and to have the main storyline progress, to create some more future perspectives.

Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores is visually the best game I have ever played, and in terms of gameplay, it is enjoyable for me, although it may not be for everyone. But the story is the biggest weakness of the game, and I don’t think the story will be great in Someone’s opinion and it may just be the difference between those who say it’s mid and those who say it’s bad. But in different ways, this game completely shows off the power of the 9th generation console.

Burning Shores is definitely worth a visit. The story builds nicely, the side quests have nice depth, and Aloy and Seyka may end up forming something more than just a friendship. The question is whether a little more content could have been added. After all, it's all stuff we've seen before. [Issue#327]

Seyka is a welcome addition to Aloy’s allies. However the DLC shows no intention of escaping the science fantasy nonsense the base game mired itself in. [Issue#28, p.88]
