I enjoyed this game at launch and had high hopes, but between the excessive micro transactions, and removal of reasonable organic in-game credit earning I am now beyond frustrated. The game is literally down for maintenance for them to nerf these organic money earning methods further. Trash game model.

Payed 100 Euros for this game only to fine out is is a cashgrab scheme. This should be a game where "normal" people could enjoy hypercars and classics. But the only way to enjoy these cars now is to grind for 40 hours to buy a classic Jag, or buy credits through microtransactions for over 50 Euros. Good work Polyphony destroying your one and only game. Great job losing all your long time fans.

This is a shockingly poor showing from PD and Sony. I've been an avid GT fan and player since the PS2 era. This game falls stunningly short of previous installments, even the recent Gran Turismo Sport. GT Sport, at launch, was maligned and panned - over time, GT Sport became a fuller game. Even GT Sport felt like a fuller and more developed game than this. GT Sport had exorbitantly expensive cars but also had an in game economy that worked such that you could work towards expensive cars relatively quickly even as a casual player by just sort of playing the game in way that you found enjoyable. You could sell cars you had purchased and no longer needed (or got a duplicated of as a gift later).

In GT7, there is not really a fully developed campaign/career/solo mode. There wasn't in Sport, either, but PD placated us all by saying that was mostly an online game to tide us all over to a return to form in GT7. GT7 has a markedly more sparse singleplayer gameplay than Sport. This, coupled with extremely low race payout, invitation only cars, and seemingly core gameplay elements of car tuning locked behind raffle tickets screams as a somewhat shameless pivot to a micro-transaction model. That would be fine in a free to play mobile game but is frankly insulting in a AAA studio release of a new installment of what had, to this point, been a core pillar of the entire console's ecosystem. Really disappointing and frustrating. Ultimately going to put this game aside as a casual player - playing a few hours a week without any reasonable way of earning in game credits would lead to six, seven, eight months of time to earn enough credits for a single medium value car of a couple million credits, let alone the top value 20-million credit cars. Extremely frustrating. Unless the game gets both more substantial single-player content AND un-breaks its economy, this will be a forgettable title.

Microtransactions beware. Bought the game at full price at launch after the press reviews. Sony revealed the MTX after launch and totally designed the ingame economy to push MTX. The scam has been pushed further after 1.07, they went above and beyond and reduced the already low prize payouts. You can’t even sell your own cars for money. Sony / Polyphony Digital have gone the way of EA etc with anti-consumer decisions.

It already took much longer than previous GT titles to earn enough credits to pay for many vehicles, but I guess sales of the heavily pushed micro transactions weren’t as high as they’d expected, so they nerfed the reward amounts on the most popularly farmed races in the latest update. Speaking of updates, whenever an update is released, the servers require patching first. This means you can’t play the game because of its “always online” requirement. Yes, you can’t even work on your license tests while the server is down. There’s supposedly some arcade races and the “music rally” tracks, but I never was even given the option to play them as my game refused to go into “offline mode” choosing only to throw up errors about how it couldn’t connect to the server.

    Shame on PlayStation
    Shame on Polyphony Digital
    Shame on Kazunori Yamauchi

Also, the AI sucks, so all the “story mode” races are rolling starts, where you just have to chase down the moronically driven AI car in first place from their 20-35 second head start.

The roulette system is broken. The AI is horrible. Rolling single line starts where you start over 40 seconds

Rolling single line starts where you start over 40 seconds behind? Yup, it’s needed because the AI isn’t very good. It can be fun but the campaign needs more actual racing with grid starts.

Now tack on the always online requirement and the fact that the game has been unplayable for almost 24 hours…

The reason it’s online only is so they can control the in game economy, the reason they do that is to control your credits and incentivize micro transactions. The reason you can’t sell cars is because they want to control your credits. The reason the game is down for over 24 hours is because corporate greed pushed for an update to LOWER credit payouts, and they messed it up. Following the predatory trend of forced micro transactions. Can’t sell cars for credits. Limited time “invitations” to buy cars that are overpriced forcing people to buy credits. they heavily rely on FOMO. Such a shame, this game could be so much more.

Very, very disappointed by the game. The return of the "real Gran Turismo" has less single player content than the late GT Sport had, a famously non-single player game.

You don't really have a chance to use most of your cars since there are no events for these vehicles.

Microtransactions should never be part of any paid game, period.

Fantastic game by developers ruined by predatory businessmen.

Repulsively greedy micro-transactions and a senseless “Always-On” internet requirement ruin a near flawless simulator with gorgeous graphics and a pretty engaging single-player environment.

I spent 110CAD as I wanted the PS4 and PS5 versions and now I’ll be lucky to get that money back. With that amount spent I expect to own the game but I don’t. I’m at the mercy of a server that needs to be up and a internet connection that needs to constantly run. Why? Not to make sure I’m enjoying the product. You don’t need a constant internet connection to drive a car around a track. Not for dynamic weather changes. You don’t need a constant internet connection to see what the weather is at the Nürburgring. No the only reason you’d need to constantly be connected is if Sony wants to know if there are more ways to frustrate you into paying real money for in-game credits. Latest update reduces rewards so it will take you longer to get the cars/upgrades you want. I’m sure they’ve also nerfed “Roulettes” further. At last count out of about 20 Roulettes I’ve “Won” the lowest level prize 17 times. Random? No, Shenanigans.

The game itself? So good! Exactly what I hoped for in terms of graphics and gameplay. Good license tests, fun missions for a different change of pace, seriously improved upgrade system for cars and really enjoyable races and championships. Read the 10/10 reviews. No need to rehash all that. Somehow, though, not enough emphasis has been put on the negatives.

Historically I’ve invested a lot into this franchise. Bought every version of the game since the first. Always bought the Special-editions if they were available. I’ve had a Gran Turismo keychain on my keys for over a decade. Gran Turismo steering wheel on the shelf in my office. Never thought of returning a Polyphony Digital product until now. Of course, I CAN’T return it because they say it’s not faulty so the joke’s on me I guess.

60 bucks used to be enough for a developer to invest time and effort into creating a masterpiece. Now not even $100 of our hard-earned money is worth it to them. We’re lucky to get a game that’s launched with 50% of its promised features. No gamer asked for a title to be released with bare minimum features followed by piecemeal content to be lazily tossed at the masses once a quarter for 3 years. I don’t blame the people that are actually making the game. I don’t doubt they’re also frustrated. But be careful who’s publishing your game. Eventually you’ll make no money at all when the greed becomes intolerable.

Unless they release a version of the game that doesn’t require an online connection, and they cut the cost of micro transactions by 75%, then just avoid it. Beautiful racing isn’t worth this disgusting new approach to wringing every cent out of gamers.

How fun would that be? Of course if you dont want to do that you can just pay us another $200 and you can use it right away! That’s shady af? But we don’t MAKE you pay us, you could happily use your new product to brew 5000 coffees and then unlock it! Oh and by the way, whilst you’re enjoying that ‘grind’ of coffee, make sure you’re always online. Actually, try and make sure we are online too because whilst there is no benefit to you as our end user to always being online, we have decided that you must always be connected to our servers to use your product. And if we nuke the product that you bought by releasing a poor update, you won’t be able to use it at all. But we appreciate your patience whilst we sort it out. By which I mean it is now 10000 coffees that you must brew to unlock your frother. Or there’s, you know, that other way of unlocking it, which we are totally not forcing you to do, just go do the same thing 10000 times. Oh I nearly forgot, I should have mentioned, that frother is only available for a limited time. We can’t say how long. And once it’s gone, who knows when it will be back? Not you, maybe us, but not you. So you should probably do whatever you can to get it now before it’s gone and we might replace it with something less desirable, like a bag to store coffee beans. But it could also be something which brews the best coffee ever and if you bought the frother, maybe you won’t be able to get the new thing?

No need to worry about that! I’m not sure if this came up yet, but you can pay us $500 to skip the hours and hours of repetitiveness. As long as we are online. Enjoy!

If you’ve not bought it yet, don’t. It was already very hard to earn enough for the high end cars, the lack of big money pay out events is seriously limiting on a game about collecting cars. Add to that the massive reliance on a server connection to play even single player is crippling when the server is not available. Wait, make them sort it out before parting with your money.

This new iteration now means hours of endless grinding (20 hours) to buy a top end car. I can’t do 20 hrs of the same track without losing my mind just to buy one car that you can’t sell if you don’t like.

The game is £70, for that you expect to be able to achieve what you want and build a car collection. Not enough races or campaigns (just an introduction set of challenges). Small payouts and loot box style system for key upgrades. This was the reason I never bought battle front 2, 2 years of constant daily graft to unlock a game that you already paid for.

Indeed, they have largely reduced the credits earned per race and it becomes ridiculously long and time-consuming, needless to say also ultra boring to earn new credits to buy new cars. Other modes than the solo mode are not rewarding at all, and the utmost shame is that a lot of cars are very expensive, some of them costing the equivalent of +30h of farming in terrible conditions. There are +400 cars in the game, and what we want as players is to be able to earn new cars at a regular pace to enjoy them, and not to have to wait 5 years before buying thisbeloved and long-desired 12m Jaguar.

Polyphony created at the last minute before the release of the game extremely unaffordable MTs in prevision of such moves, and as of now you may spend 120e of real money just to buy ONE car if you cannot farm. This is absolutely unacceptable because we do not want to pay 1000 euros a full game, but not to be deceived by a game maker that already sells its game 80e. The endless maintenance today also proves that the compulsory online servers to play the solo was a bad idea and destroys the gaming experience for which we had very high expectations, considering the prestige of the games, and their past mistakes.

It seems that Kazunogain and his teams don't learn ! The game is failing on some parts but stays a pretty good game who deserve a grade between 7 and 9, it is too bad to waste such an experience with bad decisions and treacherous MTs.

If the policy regarding the reduction of credits flips back, I will reconsider my grade and will eventually regrade the game by a 7+.

We'll be a lot to do that, so please hear us ! It's a massive and collective complaint (just check Reddit, Twitter, GTPlanet).
