This could be the greatest game ever, but it's plagued with microtransactions that feel necessary to experience the game fully. This has the potential to be one of the GOAT racing sims/games, but looks to be swinging in the direction of another game franchise that has sold-out to the games-as-a-service plague. There are time-limited cars where you are only presented with the opportunity to buy at specific points in the game. If you don't have the in-game credits necessary at this moment (which you likely will not), well that's just too bad. . You don't earn nearly enough credits from online and off-line events alike to be able to buy and modify the cars you want, and as of the latest 1.07 update these credit payouts have been reduced substantially. The meta of grinding a certain single player event hundreds of times to be able to afford some expensive in-game purchases develops with an economy like this, which is just mind-numbingly repetitive and boring. The developers may try and defend this game design by saying that the most expensive vehicles *should* take a long time to save up for. But in reality if you're an adult that works a full time job in real life and you can allocate some limited time on your weekends to playing online/singleplayer and accumulating say oh I don't know - 300,000 credits per weekend? ... you're looking at needing to play this game for years and years, decades even to be able to buy all the vehicles in the game. And that's without the price of modifying them considered! You'd probably have to play the game for the rest of your life if you wanted to modify them all too, lol. You cannot sell cars to gain extra credits like previous GT games, and the in-game spinning-wheel prize feature basically always gives you the worst prize out of all shown, bit of a slap in the face. With all that said, why would they design it this way? Oh of course - there's that sneaky little feature of microtransactions; being able to spend real money to get more in-game credits. And that's the direction they're pushing us. Out of principal I won't be spending any money on microtransactions. You should not have to after what you've paid for the game itself. I'll put the game down and move on to some other enjoyable activity to spend my free time on before it comes to that.

And in addition to the above, the game requires a constant internet connection to even play single player mode. When extended server/update issues happen like they have done today, that removes everyone's ability to play the game they've bought offline.

The strong vehicle physics, dynamic weather and time conditions (hopefully they come to all circuits in the game) has the potential to make for some amazing online racing, with tyre, fuel strategies coming into play.

If they fix up the in-game economy of this game it will go from a 5/10 to a 9/10 in my eyes.

The physics and customization are 10/10 though. This is where the game shines, the tracks & cars are pretty much perfectly modeled and the driving itself is quite punishing (in a good way). The game also does a great job on teaching you how to be a better driver.

Overall a massive letdown for a game that was advertised as being the ultimate gran turismo experience. Feels more like a glorified $30 game.

The fact how obvious it is that they are pushing for mirco transactions is sad. To unlock everything, you'll need over 300 million credits, which is 2340 hours by there count. If you consider that you grind 50% and do 50% other stuff, you get 4680 hours. That's 6.4 hours a day, 2 years straight.

Making the game require online servers to play single player/story mode is ridiculous. The recent updates have pushed micro transactions by reducing race rewards and the latest server maintenance has lasted 20+ hours at the time of posting. Very disappointing updates to an otherwise amazing game.

Clearly with the recent changes, the intention is pushing players towards micro transactions as the only possible way to purchase the most desirable cars in the game. The game play is great but the way that PD have gone about trying to force you into microtransactions by buying credit from the play store for a $60+ game is disgusting. The roulette spins expire for no reason and when you use them you either win the lowest prize money or an invitation to buy an expensive car that is normally locked (this invitation also expires). You don't have enough time to save enough money to buy the car that you have an invitation for so this can cause FOMO and some people may buy into the extra credits. You can't sell the cars you don't want/ have duplicates of, this is obviously done so that you are again forced into buying the extra credits. People found ways to earn money quite quick by grinding some races, PD quickly patched them races so they're not worth it now. For some unknown reason the game, even when playing single playing is online only so this 1.07 patch that was botched has now not allowed anyone to play any of the single player campaign for nearly a full day as you need connections to the server. The campaign itself is a little Short and it needs to add a few more endurance races (I know you can set up a custom race but it's not the same). In my opinion I feel as though PD have basically joined the rest of gaming industry with their greed and money first over customers. Like I said the core mechanics that the game developers have worked on are great, the physics feel good and the weather is amazing. It's the bolt ons that they have been done to monitized this game that have killed it. Expand

My internet speed tho, apparently you need good internet..didn't think i got the right game because of the mini game sound of music is vary much a requirement you need to complete at least one to unlock the actual game... I reset my PS like 3x before just muted the tv and did it.. With all the default settings ibgot silver no sound just holding the gas and steering.. The cars are beautiful but the crowd and backgrounds, they are hilariously bad unless they are in a cut sean. Licensing tests are brutal and probably the best part.. Every thing from then on focusing on collecting cars with its own xp to a raffle system that's super under welming and its down hill from there. a quest system from the "Cafe" that is what's controlling your way through the game and likewise the reason im probably not going to fully see the game because its just not worth it to grind out lots of these races. Definitely looks like a pay to play model is forming around this game.. Are the races difficult ya is that the result of new advance AI no probably not. They don't know your there most of the time and really like that racing line.. I have a feeling it's going to be a struggle to actually get past this tarrible starting for me before I can like it. Huge fan of the franchise and had sucker on my head when I jumped in with the collectors edition trusting that the product was good with out doing much research. Expand

Used car dealership sounds like a good idea but it really doesn't work with so little cars on offer. If you want any of the hero 90s jdm cars or any muscle cars you need to wait until Polyphony decides its time to put them on the market.

A beautiful game spoiled by shady MTX practices. They already made it more of a grind post launch with the latest patch and it was already a grind fest before that. I’m not sure how PD didn’t get called out by all the reviewers but this is just not acceptable for a $80 game.

The roulette system is broken. The AI is horrible. Rolling single line starts where you start over 40 seconds

Rolling single line starts where you start over 40 seconds behind? Yup, it’s needed because the AI isn’t very good. It can be fun but the campaign needs more actual racing with grid starts.

Now tack on the always online requirement and the fact that the game has been unplayable for almost 24 hours…

    Community engagement is non-existent.

They need to do a complete 180 on this one.

This was after the game was already pushing you to buy micro transactions at every opportunity. I was fooled — the micro-transactions weren’t in the review copies of the game. Those reviewers felt the reward amounts for racing were fair. Now, a week later, those rewards have been slashed in half to coerce players into giving Sony more cash. Sony / Polyphony Digital have gone the way of EA etc with anti-consumer decisions.

It already took much longer than previous GT titles to earn enough credits to pay for many vehicles, but I guess sales of the heavily pushed micro transactions weren’t as high as they’d expected, so they nerfed the reward amounts on the most popularly farmed races in the latest update. Speaking of updates, whenever an update is released, the servers require patching first. This means you can’t play the game because of its “always online” requirement. Yes, you can’t even work on your license tests while the server is down. There’s supposedly some arcade races and the “music rally” tracks, but I never was even given the option to play them as my game refused to go into “offline mode” choosing only to throw up errors about how it couldn’t connect to the server.

    Shame on PlayStation
    Shame on Polyphony Digital
    Shame on Kazunori Yamauchi

Also, the AI sucks, so all the “story mode” races are rolling starts, where you just have to chase down the moronically driven AI car in first place from their 20-35 second head start.
