But then other titles got better, more accurate car sounds, better driving dynamics...etc. However, GT7 got me excited again after a decade of Forza, Need for Speed, and Assetto Cordsa. I was pleased when it went live and the graphics were as amazing as it promised, the sound of each individual car was realistic, you can hear the Vtec kick in as the S2000 hits high rpms. The modification function was ok, don't really get why in some vehicles you can only install a front and side skirts but zero rear diffuser options? But the general experience was good and I was pretty happy and excited. However, the longer than expected update duration knocked me out of my excitement I gotta say. And after seeing the details of the update, it all made sense to me, why I was unable to sell my extra Honda Civic to make earn some credits, and why the legendary cars were so expensive, it is disgusting. I'm very disappointed and after a decade of waiting, I felt like I was lured into this web of deceit that aims to pressure me into using their micro-transaction system to save some valuable time. If I want to grind for hundreds of hours and suffers the finanical burden of paying for a car with lots of money, I much rather do that in real life. Video games should be where I can do that with ease and live out my fantasy. Expand

I am normally a huge fan of PlayStation first party titles like Gran Turismo. I bought this thinking it would work but I have a spotty internet connection and this game keeps telling me I’m in offline mode and doesn’t let me continue with my progress. Absolute headache. I regret buying this game. If you are considering it… don’t. The always on features ruins it.

Ruined by "micro-transactions" however micro really isn't the correct word considering I already spent a ridiculous $150 on the game and now to buy the current 5 legend cars it would cost $550 AUD. At this point, Polyphony is just taking a dump on its customers.

I bought this game full price to be able to enjoy the Gran Turismo experience I felt on the PS1 and PS2.

But I feel scammed now as I learned that I cannot play solo without online connection, and also need to pay (expensive) price to purchase cars, that I will definitely not be able to win with just my gaming skills.

Gameplay great but no-one should accept the DRM nonsense and online requirements for what is basically a single player racing game for the majority of a user's experience. Game also needs the return of race qualifying as constantly starting at the back of the pack (and why always rolling starts?) Isn't a good way to do a racing game. The removal of selling gift cars though as not surprising is a pretty terrible move forcing people to either grind extensively or pay real money for in game credits to purchase cars which wasn't a deal breaker for me as race rewards still weren't that bad but the recent update reducing all the race rewards is just embarrassing and needs to be called out. Polyphony needs to get back the the roots of the GT series and if they do need funding for future content it should be done in the way of paid DLC and not micro transactions. Expand

Developers have recently nerfed credit earnings to the ground, saying that rare cars should be rare and hard to acquire.... but you can spend $40 in about 30 seconds to buy the car with real money. How exactly does that promote rarity if someone can open their wallet and get the rare item instantly?

On top of that the game is clearly designed with F2P mechanics in mind. Daily Roulettes are terrible and hardly ever reward a decent prize. Used car shop fills slowly with cars you need to buy before they disappear for an unknown amount of time. The legend shop just now refilled with a car that costs 18,500,000 credits!! It'll take over 30 hours of grinding the same race over and over to buy it! Or pay $180ish to get it instantly :)

Limited time invitations, that you only seem to get via daily roulettes, to buy cars with 1,000,000-5,000,000 credits further incentives the player to purchase credits with real world dollars. Otherwise you'll miss out on buying the car and you won't know when you'll get another invitation.

On top of the economy problems, there's just a general lack of content for the game. 39 menu books took a laughably short amount of time to get through and missing endurance races, grid starts, tracks, event modes, and more really really shows.

Tl;dr, economy for this game is completely geared to push players to buy credits with real world dollars. Lack of post menu completion content is barebones and laughable.

But as it gets into mid and late game most npc dialogues became literally rubbish ("I really like xxx car!" "I will be competing in this xxx! It's fast!" ... ya, as if I care).

    The Terrible:
    - Microtransactions. And the nerf to credit rewards.

Microtransactions for credits & cars would be a totally acceptable business model for f2p games, but absolutely NOT for a FULL PRICED game like GT7.

Credits are already hard to come by in game, and on top of that they slashed the credit rewards for the most efficient races. AND even on top of that they release a letter claiming they did it because they "don't want players to mechanically repeat races."

WTF? How does nerfing rewards solve the problem? If I had to mechanically repeat 100 races to get a certain car, after the nerf I have to repeat 200~1000 races to get the same car. Tell me how's that not mechanical now??

In the same letter they mentioned they want to tie in-game car prices to real world prices to reflect the cars' rarity -- that's another WTF.
Dude, most of us will NEVER get our hands on a Ferrari or Lamborghini or a legendary racing car, and that's exactly the reason we buy GT so we can have a taste of driving it in this "real driving simulator"!!
"Real world PRICE simulator" is NOT called for, it's not what ppl buy GT for.

    - The roulette tickets
The visual effect (roulette process) is an utter waste of precious gaming time, and the rewards are often ridiculously meh or USELESS (e.g. tuning parts for cars that you'll never buy).
I'd rather you just give us a fixed amount of credit and take away that RNG factor.

    TL;DR

    - A wonderful game, but ruined by a greedy & malicious business model / management. SIE / PD please stop implementing this disgusting, EA-like microtransactions-everything business model. It may make you money, but it destroys your reputation and gamers' trust in you.

It's a lovely game on the surface but the foundation and policies need a lot of work. I remember in GT1 when you could modify your supra to a 1000ps (that's right!) and drag race it! That was a fun grind. All that spark is now gone. All that craziness that gave the game so much character has been stripped in favour of 'professionalism' and 'sophistication'.
There's is much that is wrong

There's is much that is wrong with the game that even if the cars were cheaper, it wouldn't help. I don't think any amount of fixes or patches can help with the fundamentals of the game. Unfortunately I will try to play some more only because I bought it already and see it to it's end but it is not an enjoyable experience. You can't even sell your cars to raise cash!

Clearly their goal is to do everything they can to make you buy credits with real money. Even going as far as nerfing the race payouts to make it even harder to earn credits. Some cars can only be purchased with an invitation, and that invitation expires!! You'd have to run 60-70 races to earn enough to pay for that car OR pay $30 to $40 real money to buy that one car.

    That's absurd

The server was down for more than 24-hours within the first few weeks for a game that I paid almost 24-hours and now the reward credits are nerfed. The reward tickets are weighted toward the lower level prizes and microtransactions are pushed in that cars are outrageously expensive and reward credits are low.

Anyone that knows me, knows that I'm a huge GT fanboy. Not so anymore.

Sony/Polyphony, let us say that you had a kid that loved racing games and that you made racing games. They come to you saying they need to use more of their own money to get a car they want and you are telling them that it's too bad and they should pay the money.

    You guys blow hard.

Then there's the gameplay which tbh can be fun in certain races but I have had so many races where I'm quite frankly bored, the Endurance and nascar being some of the worst offenders. Also the campaign can frequently leave you frustrated as npc's on every difficulty can spin you out in a moments notice without any warning or penalty attached to it. Then last but not least there's the pesky microtransactions that quite frankly breaks the game as they are really hard to avoid especially after the latest patch which nerfs the prize money and ups the prices of some cars. This in my opinion was the last straw for me which makes me want to give it up. How did poliphony not realise this would annoy players and push them away from ever picking it up again. Beats me. Do yourself a favour and buy from a developer that actually cares about their playerbase.

Gran Turismo 7 has a lot of good and plenty of great. The use of DualSense and the particularly well-tuned loading is exemplary, and there's a huge amount of work behind the game, with a lot of detail that's almost hard to believe at times. [Issue#318]

Gran Turismo 7 is a love letter to motorsport history and an impeccable technical showcase. The franchise's traditional formula gets good improvements, but it's still extremely true to its roots. One of the best racing series ever shines spectacularly on the PS5.
