I have played ALL GT game and this is right after SPorts the most frustrating bad one.
Smaller Car List than other Gran Turismo games (and some producers like Lotus or Opel are completely missing).
Fewer Racing Types and also stuffed into an annoying story mode. If this story mode and the freed Races would be an addition to other race types & tournaments it would be nice, in that form

DONT try to earn your price ticket with a steering wheel!! GT7 ignores my buttons and i ALWAYS get the least worth price, with normale sony gamepade it works fine (besides i have there still enough bad luck and frustrating prices).

Personally i feel like the dirt road races lack more physically correctnes, i had no fun within a single dirt race oO but this can be very subjective.

My girlfriend which i do visit often with my ps4 has very poor WLAN , so trying to play GT7 is out of question, thanks sony. If u could at least do multiplayer with the online enforcement wiuthout psplus it would be ok somehome...but what do u expect from son *rolling eyes*

On ps4 the menu loading time are also a little pain in the ass.

The only thing i can critic positive, the racing tracks look & feel awsome an really up to date, i hope i will see every old track like Grindelwald, but after GT sports i feel pleased to see old tracks very early (hope this will continue but just to have fun anymore to spend more time with GT7 at the moment, THX SONY!)

Terrible credit rewards, can't sell cars to make money, greedy developers need to fix this ASAP as the game is almost unbearable once the menu books are finished. Furthermore, the offline mode is non-existent, even though you bought the game, really you own nothing without an internet connection. Seriously how long does it take for a company to go "OK this is all wrong. Let's just fix it." and do one big update rather than drip feeding utter nonsense every three months. Its online only, so racing offline isn't a thing, that includes ai. The ai cars are made of concrete (I though t this stopped in 2005) so knocking any form of ai car generally means high speed ramming, which by the way you always inevitably come off worse from, even in light contact situations.
The list of issues with this game are inexhaustive, I could literally write an essay and this is now 1 whole year on from my original review.
    Actually terrible.
Its really annoying seeing people stick up for it saying things like it's improving and giving it 8 ratings. A year ago I bought this game and it's still just getting to a point its playable.
Dont get me started on the cafe and all the "people" I have to "talk" to because the designer couldn't handle the fact that it's just a game, so half the time I'm reading what some cretinous idiot thinks I should know and I can't just turn that option off. All of which takes time away from actually doing what the game is for............ Racing

Personal: what is with the café **** This is the most out of touch racing game feature I think I’ve ever seen in a game, a café with cars as the menu? Why do the Japanese find the weirdest ways to ruin what used to be good games?

Personal: Is car physics or physics in general understood in japan? Japanese games all seem to lack physics, why is that? MGS lacks physics, the Yakusa games lack physics, Final fantasy games lack physics? Why do Japanese game developers not understand physics? Ghost of Tsushima is probably the best Japanese game of this generation and a key reason is its physics, but it took an American developer with an understanding of physics to make it great without the physics where would it be?
The arrogance of Japanese developers to think they can get away with such a lack of innovation is crazy, as you can see by the user reviews the nostalgia trick has been played out we want innovation not the de-innovation that’s on offer here

At this stage polyphony’s lack of understanding has reached the point they should retire from making games and maybe do a konami getting in to pachinko, to understand such a damming assessment pick up a copy of 2013 Drive Club (Non4K) pause it in game and select the camera, zoom in on the car model, then do the same with GT7 and you will quite literally see just how far behind the curve GT7 really is in both graphics and enjoyable gameplay the comparison is honestly staggering, why on earth Sony chose to plow their money in to the ignorant polyphony over the stunning Evolution Studios is beyond comprehension, a PS4 release title is graphically better than an accumulation of 24 years’ experience making the exact same game over and over again and a powerhouse PS5 to work with. If I was a developer at polyphony id be pretty embarrassed to list it as a previous workplace, it’s simply not enough to be disappointed at user reaction polyphony’s entire design team from the ground up should be embarrassed by this travesty they have ruined what could have been a stunning return to form with this disgusting money grab entry, I honestly believe this thing is in such a poor state there’s nothing they can do to fix it before the 25th anniversary of the game, if they want to be ready on time for the 100th anniversary they need to replace their entire design team now.

Do not buy! 2013 non 4k Drive club is only a few dollars and its better graphically, physically and entertainment wise than this dumpster fire ever will be.

Having been an ACC player in PS5 for some time I kind of got tired due to the lack of support for the platform and decided to give GT a try. After using GT Sport for a while decided to get GT7 hoping it would improve some aspects of the game. Unfortunately that is not the case.
Although there is definitely more content in the game the playability is subpar in some aspects like menu navigation. However what I find most irritating is the fact that it is now much (MUCH) harder to get cars because of the ridiculous increase in their price in credits and the cut in prices for using the game. For instance - driving more than 42km would give you a new car in GT Sport but only a ticket to a "Roulette" in GT7 which 99% of the times gives you the smallest prize (generally Cr5000). And this is not just complaining that I can't get a McLaren F1 like I did in GTS; it means that getting to the point in which you can get a GT3 car will take you a lot of time to even start driving what many of us consider a drivable car for a race. There are many beatiful road cars but most of them are extremely boring to drive unless you spend a lot of money in parts. When I started playing GT7 I found it quite dull because of the cars you are allowed to play at the beginning of the game until you get enough money to get a car you like. Had I not payed USD70 I would have stopped playing this game at all.
I believe that the price model and the lack of options to run at least a few good cars and tracks for "free" at the start of the game is a real shame. PD is completely abusive in this respect - no matter what they claim regarding collectability of cars and real life value. It is absurd to spend USD70 on a game and not be able to have real fun and explore "real" sim racing (at least GT wise) for weeks unless you pay even more.
I left a lot of other things unmentioned - like the absence of many new cars or always-online issue because that has already been mentioned several times.

Has a lot of potential, but it was massively underdelivered and Polyphony refuses to acknowledge the flaws in its business model.
Online races are simply not fun at all; it's a procession because of the huge gap between cars in rolling starts.

Lack of original and new content, broken online lobbies and broken 2P. Months after the release the developer has no roadmap, no new content, and old cars mostly carried over from GT Sport. For a AAA first party title, this is poor.

The racing simulator physics in GT have long been the pinnacle of video game racing, but Pholyphony Digital seems to think this is enough to float their entire buisness. GT5, GT6, Sport, and now GT7, have all lacked any real progress toward a structurally good game. Racing "career" modes need improvements, such as qualifying races, standing starts, and more competitive AI. Instead, Polyphony has been re-releasing essentially the same game, over and over, with only graphical improvements. The only "new" additions to the game have been the mission mode and the track experience mode. Both of which are not related to any vehicle you have bought or spent time tuning, which further negates spending time to buy and tune cars... which is supposed to be the fun of these games. Of course the game economy is just salt in the wound: low credit earnings, inability to sell cars, overpriced cars, fake roulette prize system, and micro transaction encouragement. According to the tutorial system, the point of GT7 is to "collect" cars, which based on the economy system, is essentially impossible without spending real world money. Right now there is a massive hole in the Playstation racing simulator market. If one single developer released a GT clone with proper improvements, even with less cars, (who needs 420 cars anyway) I would leave this franchise and never come back. It boggles my mind that a game developer can spend 15+ years developing sequels to GT4 (which is the best GT game ever) and each one is just a half assed dumpster fire. Yet we all continue playing because there isn't a good alternative on Playstation. Selling your product because there isn't an alternative, is a weak buisness model. Expand

The game still looks fantastic, even on a PS4 (which I use). Driving physics are tougher than GT Sport and I rely on GTPlanet.com for tuning recommendations. Game play is still challenging

My main criticisms involve game play rewards (roulette tickets) and (hardly) microtransactions.

I usually grind each day to get two tickets (one for completing a cafe book, another for completing a daily workout). I usually receive 3,000 credits (the lowest amount) or tuning parts for cars I don't own. The most I've ever received was 30,000 credits. Compare this to GT Sport, where each reward brings the chance of winning a car (more than generous). I'd like to see a more reasonable breakdown of rewards - currently, it's usually one car, one tuning part, and three levels of credits. Dump the tuning parts (which is useless unless you own the car) and replace it with another car

Microtransactions are hardly that. As many cars cost 1,000,000 credits (which is difficult to get through game play), you're pretty much forced to pay $14.98 for 1,000,000 credits (750,000 + 250,000) or $19.99 for 2,000,000 credits. A legendary car can go for upwards of 20,000,000 credits, which is $199.00 FOR A DIGITAL CAR. Until Sony and Polyphony can come up with something more reasonable, it's just a cash grab

addendum: I dropped $20 to add 2,000,000 credits for tuning upgrades. Lo and behold, just received an invite to purchase a Bugatti. Cost of the car? 2,000,000. Coincidence? I think not

THE GOOD: Stunning graphics, lots of detailed cars, interesting tracks, and the ability to tune and customize with parts. "Better" AI and new weather system makes for interesting races too. I bought a PS5 for this game alone (though as it stands I've come to regret that decision for the reasons listed below).

THE BAD: The various characters and JRPG style dialog boxes are a little annoying. I get that they serve a purpose, but I feel like this game lost some of its focus about being about driving, and is giving off Super Mario / Animal Crossing vibes with its global menus and various characters. Minor gripe.

You might say that the AI driving can be a bit "spicy"; drives better than its GT Sport counterpart, which is awesome ... until it's behind you, where occasionally, it may decide to overtake by simply driving through your car. I love the added challenge of an AI that's not a pushover, but routinely getting pit maneuvered should be for cops in Need for Speed, not in GT. Honesty, this is a minor gripe. If you race against people, you learn to forgive this sort of thing, and implementing good AI is hard. I'd love to see this improved, but I don't hold this against anyone.

THE UGLY: The economics irredeemably ruins the game; to the point that I honestly resent both Sony and Polyphony and wish I hadn't purchased this game or the console. I loved GT Sport; (it had its flaws but) it was fun and focused on driving. You needed in-game credits to buy more cars, but that was never the focus of the game, and never impeded my sense of progress or got in the way of my fun. If you enjoyed the game and just played it routinely, you'd get enough credits and gift cars unlocked that you could just focus on the fun part of the game; you know ... the DRIVING part. When I played GT Sport, I had fun and I wanted to get better at driving. GT Sport didn't disproportionately and arbitrarily reward only one type of driving and tell me that I had to be on this particular track, with these particular conditions, and only in this group of car or otherwise take a massive reward penalty.

"Grind Turismo 7" on the other hand offers you roughly 3 races that Polyphony has (finally) graciously seen fit to not massively nerf for payouts ... while every other track and possible race setup remains nerfed and basically pays peanuts in comparison. I can even setup a custom race that mirrors the exact same race conditions, and even double the race duration, and the payout is still a just fraction compared to the few magic races that actually pay out. Why Polyphony? What exactly is the in-game logic to justify this?

This actually matters now, because every car in the game can have several hundred thousand credits worth of custom parts added to it. You certainly don't need to buy every single part for each car, but some of them are kind of important. Want racing and wet tires? That's over a hundred thousand credits for the set, per car.

So Polyphony has introduced this massive credit sink into their game by making cars expensive to customize, while keeping the credit taps practically shut for all but a few arbitrary races. Oh and they've nerfed the daily driving rewards so it's not even a true 1 in 5 draw for a gift car, but a lottery system that's heavily stacked against you in the odds, and half of the time, the prizes are useless custom parts that are specific to a single car (or better yet, "exclusive time-limited invites" to buy multi-million credit cars at full price ... wow don't I feel lucky and privileged). So once you've progressed passed the cafe missions where races actually give you cars as rewards, the game progression slams into a brick wall and gets really grindy. Look on YouTube and see how many people are posting strats on how to make make-believe-money in GT7 ... a game about driving cars. If i wanted to worry about making money, I could just go to work. This game is designed like a micro-transaction driven "free-to-play", except we paid full MSRP for both the console and the game.

@Polyphony no amount of new cars or tracks will distract players from the main issue with this game: a (still) broken in-game economy. 90% of the canned races are under-rewarded, and as it stands now, there's no point in me creating custom races if they're going to reward at 10% the going rate of the pitifully few races you arbitrarily choose to reward properly. Please fix this. Let us enjoy this otherwise awesome game on our own terms.

This is a fair review - considering the lack of content - so prepare for a more negative spin below.... Since I'm not interested in online multiplayer and only interested in the campaign mode, this is why the review will be mostly that way.

However, the major problem is the game only has approximately 5% of the game available offline. Yes, apparently a constant internet connection is required, and a PlayStation Network account - Xbox LIve account I imagine for Xbox - just to play the career mode. The only modes available are a time-trial and an arcade mode; the former has 3 tracks available that feature music that grates on your nerves after about 3 or 4 attempts.

Intriguingly, the game cannot seemingly be updated without a PlayStation Network account and cannot be updated via the dashboard - by clicking the game image. Instead, the game forces you to mindlessly drive around one of those three time-trials for hours waiting for the update to install; I attempted this and must have clocked more than 4 hours driving around two of the three tracks - I avoided one for its Rap music - and found myself wasting tonnes of time and swearing at my television in utter frustration. The update seemed to lag and get stuck, so it appears broken completely. I do have a good enough internet connection, so that was not the problem; the problem appears to be the developer's obsession with making the game an online-only game. More of this to come below...

I purchased the game in a physical version. Unfortunately, what I didn't realise - like many posting negative reviews - is the small icon on the front mentioning the game requires the internet. There is also a small asterisk and sentence mentioning this on retail sites in the product description. This might cover the developers in a legal sense, but the warning was not sufficient enough in regards to just how unplayable this game is offline. I would argue the developers should have warned people sufficiently enough in marketing videos because the game that is there is the equivalent of one of those arcade racers, which is unacceptable nowadays. The fact the game requires a PSN account is intriguing, however, though I imagine this is perhaps also for legal reasons: By signing up for an account, you obviously will agree to data collection, and also seeing micro-transactions appear. I think agreeing to that is a sketchy part of policy and law, since I don't think many want them, though I think the developers are simply covering themselves here. Realistically, the game shouldn't need to be online and if it does, it certainly shouldn't need a PSN account.

An incredibly frustrating part of that update process is the opening cutscene. When the update was lagging, I restarted the entire download and install process (a several hour process and enormous file size) several times. Unfortunately, the opening cutscene could not be skipped - there was no button prompt and pressing all the buttons had no effect - so I was stuck watching the custscene for around 10 minutes. This cutscene obsesses over the history of cars, which is rather tedious. I experimented with deleting the save file and that had no effect with fixing the download problem. Noting, retaining the save file and restarting the game also had no effect on skipping the cutscene; the game simply doesn't know there's a save file. More on this later....

There appears to be no privacy settings preventing data collection from what I remember; I cannot remember this because I've spent around 3 hours playing the game and that was 6 months ago. The rest of the time has been waiting for the update to work while doing other things. Anyway, the fact the game has no privacy settings is bemusing since it's online only.. This is a sensitive issue nowadays and something, considering the online nature, needs more implementation.

According to things I've read the save file is not local - yes, it's only available online and saved on their servers. Also stated is the fact starting a new game requires a new PSN account. This is extreme to me. For someone that only does single-player, not having most of the game offline is terrible, but not being able to start again is ridiculous.

The game might only be available online properly, but that doesn't stop it taking over 100Gbs of the SSD's space on PS5. Shouldn't it only take a small amount if servers only allow most of the game to function? Surely, this will inevitably result in one-game only PSN accounts & there will be 1000s.

To conclude, this game being online-only appears to be about surveillance capitalism and micro-transactions. The developers are securing their main revenue streams by forcing people online. Unfortunately, it's removed 95% of the game for single player & privacy-conscious people.

Even worse thing is that the game itself is not bad, in fact it's one of the best racers I've ever played. It's a real shame that developers are willing to kill their game, which they put countless of hours into making, just for some extra money when they force people to buy their next new game. The online requirement for a single player mode game is an absurd, and the grind to get the cars and tracks, "forcing" the player to buy credits with real money, come on Sony/Poliphony, what did you do with this game, that's a shame, completely painfully.

The Real Microtransaction Simulator. A shameless, greedy, corporate cash grab and the death knell to a series I once loved dearly.

disabling them to get good reviews then enabling them afterward!

The game forces you to buy every car with mtx or play for an eternity to finish it. Graphics are ps3 Niveau and the controls are bad.

Honestly this game is way to greedy , even most of the trophies (achievements) are tied with extremely expensive cars ,which either take insane amount of grinding or insane amount of real world money. For me the game is great (even though it lacks content for the time being) but the way it does NOT reward you for the time , is a reason of its own to never touch the game

So first things first - 0 for how the microstransactions works. Such agressive mt model should not be in full priced game.
But all in all, i found it mediocre game anyway. From graphics that still use 2x2d prites for trees to AI that has such obvious rubberbanding that it is insulting even to the casual player. Not to mention zero damage model (i understand there may be licensing issues

Not to mention zero damage model (i understand there may be licensing issues on visual damage, but how about physics effect?). When I hit a wall in 200kmh in "real driving simulator" I should not be able to finish the race first. But with FT7s combination of physics and AI, it is absolutelly normal.
For me the game is dissapointment. I would give it 6/10 if it was wihtout mts. With them, I simply dont want to drive the average score up.

Got the game last Tuesday on disc and couldn’t play it because the single player is locked behind a online always mode. This is ridiculous.
Other issue already well spread is the push for MTX. The payout for racers was diminished since the game launched (making all critic reviews not updated) making it a chore to gain credits. Too few activities and races compared to previous GT games.

We already paid hefty prices just to get entry. With Forza Horizon you can get as many cars as you like, explore and enjoy. GTA 7 is terrible. So unbalanced and no enjoyable immersion. Even if you get a car you like unless you have the license you can’t drive it. I’ve got a couple of nice cars but can’t just hop in and compete. I haven't even gone into the ridiculous ammounts of grinding in the game to afford a lot of the cars, and some cars costing as much as £200 real world money (at time of writing) for a single car, absolutely disgusting, and i hope that many other people protect with their wallets by not buying and encouraging this sort of practice.

The Forza games have a lot of online functionality, such as PvP, to Co-Op, to competative leaderboards, but do not demand or require online connection, let alone constant connection, which is the right and best way to do it.

I'd like to give this game a fair review. Unfortunately, after spending the last 3 hours waiting for it to install and download an update and sitting through a 10 minute unskippable video I now learn that the game servers are down for maintenance and because a constant internet connection is required I can't play.

I'm very tempted to put it back in the box and return it.

Say hello to another game that ruined its economy just after the launch/review window for the sake of microtransactions.

I used to love the series. It did some questionable choices for the sake of money as far back as GT5 (selling single use paints as DLC, for instance), but it was never egregious, certainly nothing like today's games can get. GT7, however, already started out as mean with its rewards (chiefly the roulette spins that just happen to give you the lowest reward 90% of the time), and with the latest patch, they turned the game into a total grindfest that also tries to tug on your FOMO strings (e.g. the system of invitations: brief windows to buy expensive cars you most likely can't afford)... unless you'd like to buy some in-game currency *nudge* *nudge*

I badly regret buying this game. I'd love a refund, but after two weeks of playing daily, I doubt I'd get it (PSN is notorious for being stingy with those at the best of times)

Always-online single player games should not exist as it was a 70 dollar brick for over 30 hours shortly after launch. Throw in a bunch of extra microtransactions, INCREASE the prices of them AFTER journalists publish their reviews and you have now eroded customer trust to the point that you deserve a 0/10

Gran Turismo 7 has a lot of good and plenty of great. The use of DualSense and the particularly well-tuned loading is exemplary, and there's a huge amount of work behind the game, with a lot of detail that's almost hard to believe at times. [Issue#318]

Gran Turismo 7 brings to the tracks every single thing fans always wanted: the GT Mode everyone loves, plenty of customization options, car loads, classic scenarios and one of the best DualSense and 3D Audio experiences the PS5 has to offer. This is the best Gran Turismo experience we have ever seen in a long time.

Gran Turismo 7 is a love letter to motorsport history and an impeccable technical showcase. The franchise's traditional formula gets good improvements, but it's still extremely true to its roots. One of the best racing series ever shines spectacularly on the PS5.
