Understand this game was HATED at launch. I got bored of Forza Motorsport 7 (this games main rival) and decided to buy a ps5 and give this a shot. The game was on sale for $40 when I got it.

    Pro's:
-Looks better than your first born child
-Audio design has vastly improved from its predecessors
-Great customization (nearly all cars have wide body kits, splitters, spoilers, aftermarket wheels, etc)
-Being able to adjust the diff, brake balance, fuel mixture (lean/rich), TCS, on the fly is great
-Gran Turismo collaborated with car manufactures to create concept cars and they are all stunning
-Balance of Performance (BoP) racing is great- allows for a diverse grid where anyone can win in any car
-Menu music is terrific I find myself sitting in the dealership listening to music browsing cars
-On ps5 load times are non-existent, load any car any track immediately
-Being able to create private lobbies and posting them on public servers is a great way of having fun community driven events.
-Love the strategy in endurance racing being able to swap between Racing Softs vs Racing Hards or adjusting to active weather and putting on Rain tires or Intermediates.
-Weather and Time can be adjusted to any setting you like
-Diversity in tracks. There are a few rally stages, road courses, street/city circuits, F1 level race tracks, fantasy tracks
-Physics and Tire models seem very realistic.
-Diverse selection of vehicles. GT3, GT4, Japanese GT500, Group B, 90's-20's Prototypes, 60's Le Mans racers, and of course many production vehicles ranging from compacts to hypercars
-Photo mode is on steroids and is damn near impossible to tell the difference between a videogame and real life
-Used car dealer cycles cars every day making it fun to log in everyday and see whats available.
-Cars you collect can be sold and their value supposedly shifts everyday and you can "invest" in cars and sell them later for more credits.
-Doing license tests, mission mode, menu books, and buying cars gives you the opportunities to win prize cars for free or get extra credits.
-There is an extensive library of user created liveries to browse through and you can apply them to your cars.
-Doing the "Circuit Experience" on the race tracks allows you to learn every track and drive on it well while also giving you a large amount of credits for beating a certain time.
-Online racing becomes better through Driver Rating and Safety Rating, encouraging others to be quick while also putting you in races with people around your skill level
-Online time trials give hefty payouts for performing well

    Cons:
-The game still sells for 70$ online, and to me thats too much money
-Menu Books are controversial. For me it wasn't an issue. But, if you aren't a huge car enthusiast or rather you only care about maybe 1-5 cars and you would like to race only those. You will HATE the menu books as they are the entire way of progressing through this game and gaining credits and cars.
-Online and other modes are locked until you progress far enough in the Menu Books
-You do not have access to upgrade your car fully until you reach a certain collector level, meaning you will need to grind the menu books to unlock better performance parts.
-You will have to do license tests which may be frustrating for some who aren't as skilled in order to progress.
-Later Mission Mode races and the later License Tests have the most sadist requirements for gold medals and I'm pretty damn good at this game but mission mode will humble you if you are trying to go for a 100% completion for the prize cars.
-Everything is expensive and racing online or in your own custom lobbies gives very little money. The best way to earn money is through time trials and circuit experience, both are time based single player races. Some may rather just play with friends
-There is no real easy way to share car "builds" and "tunes" meaning if someone builds a car incorrectly they have no real comparison as to what others have done that worked.
-Online competitive racing cycles races every 15-30 mins meaning you could be sitting around a while before the next race.
-In user created online lobbies I noticed more lag than in Gran Turismo's official competitive lobbies. Nothing game breaking and not all the time, but it could sometimes hinder the immersion or ruin the race if I collided with them unwillingly.
-If you buy and apply weight reduction mods or buy and apply certain engine parts it will cost you a fortune to bring the car back to stock. The idea is some performance parts are irreversable and you have to pay to bring them back. Stupid.
-The handling model on controller, although do-able does not hold up against rivals like forza. The level of grip you feel is disconnected.
-Splitscreen local multiplayer doesn't let you use your own garage

Now, this is a racing/driving sim, not a crash sim..., The driving/racing experience is really good, much better if you have a sim racing wheel, in my case i used the Logitech one, not the best one, but did the work.

Now the only flaw this game has, is the microtransactions, thats a no for me, on this type of game microtransactions shouldn't be allowed, really pathetic that GT7 has them.

Another flaw GT7 has, is the only 1 type of multiplayer gamemode it has, you can race with other players online but, somewhere about 20 races you can get bored, it's always the same, i think it has potential for more online game modes.

Other than all that, the game feels great, it is really a true driving simulator, hope the next game releases better than this one.

GT café is fun but feels more like a prologue to a true career.
The way the events are displayed is confusing do not let you assess them correctly, and there are not even enough events category to use a lot of cars without seriously downgrading them (when it possible).
PD, please remember you are creating a Racing/Driving game here, "game" being the key word, it is supposed ti be fun, not "mimicking the real any every kind of the way".

And please for the love of all that is holy, can we abandon the launch start in every race? Or at least re-introduce qualification for those types of starts?

Up to try any genre of games and sometimes I find something new that I didn't think I'd like. I own a PC (built by me), Xbox One X, Xbox Series X, PS3, PS4, PS5, and a Switch. I prefer Playstation due to their focus on narrative games. For scoring, I’ll be using the Gameinformer review scale and of coursed influenced by my personal opinions.

(9)Superb. Just shy of gaming nirvana, this score is a high recommendation because the game reviewed is head-and shoulders above its competition

    Bad Business Practices
(-1) Game Economy makes it impossible for a player to unlock all the content of the single player aspect of the game without paying into the microtransactions.
(-1) Online Only makes it impossible for people without an internet connection to even play the single player part of the game.

I’m giving this a nine due to its Sports Mode, and Café mode.

Sports Mode is Gran Turismo’s ranked multiplayer mode. Each week they release 3 new races, and one time travel to compete against everyone in the world. In sports mode you’ll be given a driver’s rating and a sportsmanship ranking to help put people in lobbies of likeminded/skilled racers as you. At first you’ll be constantly changing as the game learns more about you but will eventually stabilize within a month. Two of the three races are based on a certain group of cars that usually cost around 350-450k while the other is based on a specific car which people can change the set-up on. You can always rent a car at no cost to you if you don’t have a car the meets the requirement. My only complaint about Sports mode is that the payout is very small which forces you to make money through Single Player to be able to afford cars in a reasonable amount of time.

Café Mode is the campaign mode of Gran Turismo. It dives into the history of auto-racing, car types, and car manufactures which is very unique when compared to other racing games. It’s an innovating idea which has the player race/collect certain cars and then they give a 2-5min history lesson. There are a few issues with the Single Player which is that the AI is too easy to beat even on the hardest difficulty and you don’t have the option to qualify.

I want to say the core of the game is amazing, the physics, driving experience, tracks, etc. It has a ton of potential, but there are some MAJOR problems, mainly in PD's business model.

The game is based on predatory microtransactions, to the point where the game is intentionally creating roadblocks to funnel you towards microtransactions. In a "free to play" game, okay, but not a game you pay 60+ dollars for. The level of funneling as absolutely insulting.

Races do not have a real payout, for doing a long endurance race you get barely anything. The credit payout across the board is extremely and intentionally gimped. This mixed with limits on what cars you can actually purchase, and time limits on those create a situation where they are trying to get people to crack out the credit card and just funnel more cash.

All of this, mixed with the fact this is ONLINE ONLY. YOU CANNOT PLAY THE GAME WITHOUT INTERNET OR SERVER CONNECTION. This review comes in during the 24+ hour server outage caused by a bad update on PD's side. The game has been out for 2 weeks and people cannot play it. This is going to cause major issues in the future, and effect the lifetime of this game.

DO NOT BUY THIS UNTIL WE SEE PD BEGIN TO FIX THESE MAJOR ISSUES

    =====

I tried to like it, but there's just so much wrong with this game. You need to be online to play single-player (so with the maintenance update debacle today, I couldn't play the game at all). Practically all of the single-player races are rolling start, with the lead car sometimes given a 45-second lead. The roulette mechanic is lame. Earning credits was already too slow, and with the 1.07 patch, is now about twice as slow as 1.06. Microtransactions in a game I just spent $90 CAD. Bugs with licence tests. Dumb AI. A generally unintuitive UI that requires too many button presses. A tuning shop that isn't organized by part type. The single-player "menu book" experience is too short. I guess I could go on, but why bother...

What I think would make this game better:
    1) Allow for qualifying to set starting position for at least championship races.
    2) Update AI to race and compete when behind (no rubber banding).
    3) Allow for selling of already owned cars (this is stated to be coming in a future patch).
    4) Drastically change MTX price and quantity options or rework MTX all together.
    5) Update UI to move between menus quicker.

    Find Your (Off) Line

Good points= Realistic Graphics, wet weather handling, the same as previous Gran Turismo's tbh

Bad points= There was alot of hype about the weather and how great the clouds were, but the elephant in the room is unless you are driving using the in car view you cant see it starting, stopping or actually raining at all. If you use any other view you can hear the rain and notice the track getting getting darker in colour but you cant see any rain failing so if you play with the volume low you suddenly find the car sliding about. If you look to the left bottom side of the screen theres a icon showing how much standing water is on the track. To be fair once theres a lot of water on track you can see puddles. Other games have done the weather effects better on previous gen consoles. For a nex gen ps5 console game it looks like to much time was focused on the cars looking great and everyone forgot to notice that playing using any view but in car that no rain could be seen failing. Apart from the graphics overhaul, sound improvement, tweaked handling, the game seems stuck in a time loop and hasn't moved on. At present the servers are down and because you need a online connection it can't be played properly.
Not enough cars, more expensive to buy the cars, trying to get you to buy real money in game credits to progress. Cut down amount of one player races. The cars can't be sold like on previous GT etc
A missed opportunity tbh considering how big a budget, how big the resources are of the developer it could of been so much better.
Im old enough to be around when GT1 was originally launched and it was ground breaking at the time and over versions and time it improved. ive spent thousands of hours playing all the GT games and i hate to say it but im disappointed considering i bought the ps5 because GT7 only months away from coming out.
I remember when Driveclub was released and it was down scored because of the sheer demand for the game the servers would crash, but at least the one player game was still playable if you didn't have a internet connection. It was and still is a great racing game. Stunning cars but somewhat sloppy on the rest. For instance when it get dark it's like someone hits a lightswitch. Some challenges within the same difficulty are really simple and some impossible (or almost). It is a shame that they haven't put more effort in actually teaching people how to race.

As a simulation racer it was quite beyond shocking how good the cars felt on controller to the point plugging in a racing wheel felt a tad bit uncomfortable and the music as always is a great part of Grantourismo, and the graphics and such where quite good for a game and the dynamic weather and the minute details they made quite shocked me to the point that this is the first game that made me believe there was a gutter, but with all these negative reviews it's for good reason the harsh corporate greed that has plagued this game reallly is sickening and a lot has been said about the atrocious grind process and credit cost which i find quite deserving even though i love this game a lot for such little time it has been out. When i first had my long hand experience with the game was during the week of release and i had to say it was a damn fine game but afterwards the gameplay after that initial week was quite annoying with all the disgusting corporate greed. I expect a change to occur and the game will probably have one due to the harsh backlash it has received in and out the racing world with it's corporate greed and horrible online only system. This is a good game and i do not want to downplay it's worth due to recent news but this is a prime example of corporate greed and i hope the negative reviews incite the people at top dog positions to stop being greedy.

edit: As the hype for the game calmed down i have to say even after the updates im not completely content because whenever i boot up the game i just feel like it's missing something like that one last push till it's actually something i really enjoy but other than that one feeling i feel like it's still pretty harsh on it's microtransaction motto and the always online thing doesn't usually bother me but with a game as gran tourismo which i love constantly revisiting i just hope it prepares for longevity instead of a quick racing money grab. Everything here is still really solid with some of the best racing physics i have even seen and everything feels really realistic and the music and scrapes and the overall curated feeling they have conceived i love it and with the added story books and such i feel like this game is solid but i wish it goes back to the greatness it was at launch.

But now in gt 7 its a whole ass 20 dollars to get only 2 million credits which is a robbery considering some of the legendary cars are 18 MILLION CREDITS which are INCREDIBLY hard to get by just grinding which is where micro transactions could be useful to get some of those legendary cars but if you were to buy 18 million credits that would be a whoppin 180 dollars! If my calculations are correct which is already like paying for the game 2 WHOLE TIMES TO GET 1 DAMN CAR. ANDDDD if that wasnt bad enough YOU HAVE LIMITED TIME YO BUY THE CARS.
They also added an invitation system to get certain cars from certain brands which isnt that bad and on paper actually sounds pretty good. How these invites work is that you get one each 2 weeks but they also expire after those 2 weeks so you are forced to grind for those cars or else you'll need to wait god knows how long until you get another invitation for that brand of cars but with how micro transactions are forced down your throat this just feels like another way to make you buy more credits which just gets me mad.
Apart from that, i loved this game and had a load of fun but im just really pissed at how they went about doing micro transactions

The media review is quite accurate and I would recommend this game to all car and motorsport lovers.

Some people complain that few Legend cars particularly the Sauber C9, Porsche 917k, and the McLaren F1 requires over 3000 hours of grinding to buy or spend $200 on MTX. To be honest, the quality of those cars are far inferior than other sim titles like Project Cars or Assetto Corsa. And those cars aren't necessary to play in any mode. GT7 exclusive cars such as Vison Granturismo and millenial cars are still affordable after the updates. So the argument of inability to buy expensive cars are not really an issue for race gamers like me.

What annoys me the most is that PD or Sony doesn't compensate any credits or other rewards after taking so much time on maintenance. They need to realize that we payed 90ish to get the game and pay extra for PS Plus. People focus on the MTX part too much but MTX is just an option in the game. To be fair to PD, the game is worth 9/10. I put 7 because of taking too much time on maintenance and not giving any compensation

The tracks that are included in the game are extensive and different types of race tracks for every taste.
Graphics are great in the game menu, the gallery photoshop mode and the replays of races. Although I would say the graphics within the actual racing is not up to standard with the PS5.
Using the pulse 3d headphones the sound of the engine and cars around you is very immersive. It is also good to hear some of the throwback songs from older GT games included too.
Driving the cars is great, it feels like you are driving a real car and works very well with the PS5 controller. You can feel the weight of the car when driving around corners and you need to be cautious when driving in the rain.
The GT cafe would be good as a extra, not as the main "storyline". Personally I think that when you are completing the story it would make more sense to compete in different cups or championships in one go instead of going from one type of championship to another, as you dont feel as immersed in the "storyline". This way you could include some sort of qualification into races and a points system for every type of championship. Sometimes the game is like a catch up simulator, where you cant truly race other cars to win unless your car is much more powerful. Every race you start in last place and its a rolling start to make your life harder.
Controls are good with the haptic feedback and the new triggers R2 and L2.
Online play is fun on the GT sport mode where people take the races more seriously. In the normal online mode, you can be spending ages waiting to join races as you scroll through the different lobbies. When joining a lobby it will often say the lobby is full even though this is not the case.

The AI in the game is a lot better than the previous versions of GT. The AI will fight back more for position in races although it does still feel slight on rails at times. It is still not perfect and comparing to much older racing games it is still not as good.

The in game menu is a good throwback to the older GT games. It is easy to navigate, but simple things like being able to see the weather forecast before picking your tyres is not there. You can end up on slick tyres when its pouring with rain which is frustrating. Also to change your car when racing other players online you have to come out of online mode and into your garage which is annoying and time consuming when you spend ages of time trying to connect to races.

Overall the gameplay is good, content is bad, would only recommend if you are a fan of the GT series or if you really like racing games.

Scapes, the rotational car dealerships, and just overall vibe of the game is actually pretty incredible.

Unfortunately I have to deduct points on the always online ‘feature’ and the game’s economics. The average player can kiss-bye ever earning some of the legendary cars unless they invest IRL. Sport mode is incredibly shallow, with minimum financial gain and lacklustre competitiveness it feels extremely unrewarding. The typical online match consists of waiting 15 minutes in a menu (literally a 15 minute fixed counter on the screen) for the race to even start, all to begin and finish in the similar position after a further 15-20 minute and earn 7000 credits (desirable cars will be in the millions)… I even came first one time and was so excited to see a grand payout after how remarkably hard that feat was and got no more than 10,000 credits. Utterly pointless.

Fantastic single player experience that could’ve been boosted further if the economics were finer tuned. Online, as with most games, feels like a poor obligatory bolt-on.

An excellent game brought down by greed and deliberately bad choices.

I have loved Gran Turismo since the PS1 days and I think this is another great entry in the series. Gran Turismo has always been more than just a racing game. It is car porn. Gran Turismo 7 continues this tradition. The cars look stunning and are highly detailed inside and out. There is a great line up of diverse cars ready to collect, modify, customise, tune, race, learn about and love. There is an in depth photo mode with its own community to share, like and discuss photos and the same for livery designs too. There is so much here to learn about cars and the history of car makers and it also teaches the broader historical context as well. It is a dream for anyone that likes cars and is easy to get into whether you’re a veteran or newcomer.

Presentation wise Gran Turismo 7 is outstanding. As I already said cars are super detailed and beautiful. Tracks look great and have plenty of detail too. I like the style and menus. Weather looks good, skies look good, and tire smoke looks good. The game runs well and loads quickly. Sound design is impressive and the music selection is cool. There isn’t much to complain about here. Being a cross gen game I don’t think they pushed everything as far as they could with the PS5, obviously car damage is an area that still needs work but overall though I’m really happy with presentation and performance.

Gameplay is fun. Cars feel great and they did well making use of the PS5 controller features. Car handling and physics are what you expect. I know when a car is on the limit of grip and when it’s gone beyond that limit. There is a good sense of speed, weight and momentum. I can feel the road and the unevenness of the surface. Weather and puddles of water are done well and greatly impact driving. Tuning is rewarding. The game as a whole is mostly very rewarding, challenging and fun. I enjoyed slowly getting better and improving my times, making my way through the challenges, earning licenses, learning in the circuit experiences and testing myself against others online. There is lots of content here and they have been continuing to add to it. There are some weaknesses like the main campaign, café mode, being underdeveloped and underwhelming and I didn’t get music rally at all.

Now unfortunately I need to discuss this games big issues and a lot of people will already know what’s coming. Why the hell do I always need to be online for single player? I guess my disc will be useless in the future when it’s all taken down and I’m just screwed anytime I don’t have internet or there is maintenance. Then there is the fact that this game becomes a horrible grind to get and upgrade the more expensive cars. Things start off okay with regular currency and car rewards but once you get further along and everything gets more expensive it just ruins the game. I put around 80 hours in and I would still be playing if not for this bulls**t. Cars are too expensive and rewards are too low so your progress grinds to a halt. This was done on purpose to push people into spending real money on the very over priced in game currency and Gran Turismo 7 is a full priced Sony game too. Why would you do this to your own creation? Imagine making something excellent and then deliberately ruining it. Why would you do this to your brand? Is it really worth it? If you need to make more money off Gran Turismo 7 then find another way, I would rather pay a little extra up front then put up with this crap. Too the people that made these decisions f**k you. To every person that buys this games currency, f**k you for supporting it, get away from videogames you are ruining it for the rest of us.

Gran Turismo 7 is really enjoyable and well made even with the horrible issues I still got plenty of time out of it. I just wish I could still be playing it and continuing to build my car collection. I would have rated it way higher if not for this and it could have been one of the absolute best PS5 games. I recommend getting Gran Turismo 7 if you’re into cars just don’t buy those expensive micro transactions and know that at some point it will become an awful grind.

The game forces you through 'cafe' singleplayer missions to unlock content. But these races are mostly always chase the rabbit style races, where you start right at the back and have to catch up to the leader. It's just a shame that the AI is so terrible - they will brake mid corner, and ignore you being right next to them.

It's 2022, and Polyphony Digital has somehow made worse AI than indie simracing studios. The campaign isn't fun if you're even remotely fast.

The game teaches you so much about racing... But there's no actual racing found until right at the end of the singleplayer campaign.

With a proposed AI improvement Sophy, begs the question... Why release the game without this? AI is such a core part of a racing game.

It's a shame, because the rest of the game is great. Cars and tracks are beautiful as always. Tuning is fun. Microtransactions suck, but they are optional. The physics are massively improved, more sim like, and the wet weather handling/dynamic weather is amazing. The last license test is a great example of this. They came so close to making the perfect racing game, but without the AI to back it up, it's just a track day/car collection game. A shame. Sophy AI cannot come quick enough.

    - multiplayer requires unlocking with couple of hours of gameplay
    - a lot of text to scroll down like in 90's rpgs

It's been almost 10 years since we have gotten full Gran Turismo experience.
And I hate to say it - I'm slightly disappointed.

Not by content - there is a LOT of cars and activities.

When it comes to tracks it's not as good - stable selection of known tracks and way too many of imaginary ones that games tends to focus during single player campaign.

Missions, quests, licenses guide you towards progression that means new cars and track. And it is slow - after 20hrs in i'm still somewhere near the start.
Of course game pushes microtransactions everywhere to remind you that it does not need to be that slow, and you can buy progress.

What is not really bad is that very often you are forced into worst possible car/track combo that is just not fun to drive.
On top of that those involving „AI” are basically putting you in the end of a computer generated cars (it's not AI) that are glued to their line and don't react at all to your presence, so they end up being more of an annoyance than competition.

Multiplayer is still fun, just got turned into best combo of tuning parts to win instead of be faster to win. Differences in cars are way bigger than what you will get using default setups vs custom ones in real simulators.

And what is worst - it's a failure in technical department - not graphics as those are excellent for console standards but all other aspects -
want to change FOV? Forget about it - forced to sit really close to 75" TV and feel like a kid in a truck with everything out of scale and problems with judging distance and speed? Bad luck pal.

Want to adjust pedals deadzone? No way to do it.

Want to adjust details in forcefeedback? Nope
Want to adjust wheel angle? Not even nope - even if you want to do it from the wheel itself on start of every race game will autoadjust to what you've set on a wheel making it virtually impossible to change.

Want to adjust UI so it does not burn out your OLED? Nah
Want to move around UI elements so driver list does not impose on rear view mirror? He he he

So still a Gran Turismo game. Nothing more. If you plan to play once in a while on a controller - go for it, you will have a blast. If you want something deeper - that is not a game for you. Get ACC or even first Asseto Corsa. GT7 feels like game from early 2000s with modern graphics - more of a remaster than new original title. When it comes to PC competition - it's way behind. Titles like Automobilista2 just live it in the dust when it comes to driving mechanics, fun and modern engines.

The game gets repetitive somewhat quickly against the AI. And now, it seems, like Credits are getting nerfed. This is already taking a grindy game and making it even more of one. It seems like this series, and it’s creators, have taking the full microtranacrion bait of live service games. Sad to see a once proud development team go down this path. It is worth the buy at a lower cost.

Ok so here is my full-fledged 115 HOUR REVIEW of the game:
-Definitely a step up from Sport (but a step down at the same time). GT7 has much more content, a meatier campaign, and a more exciting lineup of cars. However at the same time, the main “campaign” is nothing more than “complete menu book this complete menu book that” and it’s not even that long (20-ish hours or so). And post-game content, at least at launch, isn’t enough, like for example there is only ONE event shown for Mount Panorama, a track that I enjoyed in 6 and Sport. And some cars, ESPECIALLY the Legend cars, are a MASSIVE grind to get. I get it’s based on real-world prices but dang it’s too high.
-The Dualsense features are amazing, it vibrates everytime the car changes gears, and it vibrates in a certain side of the controller when I accidentally go into the shoulder. And it helped me master manual transmission, thus making Automatic for me obsolete.
-Graphics, it's Gran Turismo so of course it's amazing in the graphics department. However sometimes it lags on the PS4 version especially in rainy weather.
    -“I would say the internet-required thing may be worrisome but tbh I have a stable connection so this is more of a nitpick. I'd say as long as they update the game to be playable offline once it has reached the end of its life cycle, then I don't see this much of an issue” says my stupid-a** 1 1/2 months ago. The internet outage during update 1.07/1.08 IMO ruined Gran Turismo’s reputation. The moment GT8 is announced to require an internet connection, HA! COUNT ME OUT. However, that’s not the worst feature of this game;
-The push for a live-service model (microtransactions, feeling incomplete at launch, car rotation/overpricing). Seriously I’ll say it again from my previous review: F**K MICROTRANSACTIONS. I’m never, EVER, paying for sh*t in this game, I already spent $118 for this game, isn’t that enough? And the direction this game is taking to becoming another AAA live-service game by making the game “better” by releasing it unfinished then updating it, it just feels lazy. Like PD made GT4, a game that feels so complete at launch in an era where internet isn’t prevalent, no such thing as a PS Store, and regular updates/patches wasn’t a thing. I want a GT game like that again PD.
-And lastly they patched the SRT Tomahawk glitch through update 1.15 so my only method of grinding credits is now gone sadly. RIP Tomahawk you were a real one.

Verdict: GT7 made me smile in its few hours or so. However that magic disappears once you reach the half-point of the campaign and it drags on post-game. I’m burned out from this game and I’m left disappointed. It might get better overtime but as of right now, it’s best for me to shelf this game and move on to better games.

I have been a huge fan of past GT's but the most recent has several notable flaws. The beginning of the game is unintuitive and takes an exorbitant amount of time to unlock key aspects such as unlocking famous tracks I want to experience such as the Nurburgring. The game also lacks key tracks such as the only F1 track in North America COTA's. And important automobile companies such as Lotus.

This is an edit to a scathing review I made about how awful, uninventive and extortionate this game was for the first few months after release. This is an edit to a scathing review I made about how awful, uninventive and extortionate this game was for the first few months after release. I gave it a 0 out of 10 because it was a metaphorical spit in the face from the developers to the fans. All of the good reputation and high standards that Polyphony had set for the past 25 years, completely gone in just a few weeks.
    But now things have changed.

To start off, I want to say that unfortunately, Gran Turismo 7 has followed the infamous formula of modern game design: Release an online service game unfinished, add content in the following months and years to make it feel more finished, but don't forget to shill microtransactions.

So what have they changed/added since the last review?

    Cars can now be sold

More online events (including online time trial, which has a good payout if you get gold)

Circuit experience gives you a very generous amount of money (Over 50m credits if you get gold on all tracks, which isn't too difficult for most of them)

2 circuits and a few more layouts to existing tracks

An extra set of missions (though there hasn't been a new one since April 2022)

Races give a somewhat reasonable payout (although ~80% of the races are clearly not worth doing if you're just in it for the credits)

Extra slots in the historic car garage

They are adding VR support very soon

With the addition of the Bugatti Chiron not requiring an invitation ticket (despite it being 3 mil), I think this could mean Polyphony are scrapping the invitation system for future high-end cars.

    General bug fixes/UI improvements

They didn't punish people for doing the free engine ticket exploit which was nice I guess

Now, here is what still hasn't been fixed/changed:

    Split screen is STILL BROKEN

Changing the rolling start distance in custom races still doesn't work

New offline races still use the god-awful long rolling start, where you start at the back and the guy in first is at least past the half-way point of the first lap

Races that don't use Sophy AI are boring and predictable, the normal AI is so safe and cautious with their overtakes that they will usually get stuck behind much slower cars (even if on a wide track like SSR X)

AI in custom races always default to using their standard tyres or their best-quality hard compound for some reason (except in dirt and rain). They NEVER use medium or soft unless that's their stock compound.

Still can't customise menu music, also a shame that a lot of the good music from GT5 and GT6 got cut, even though some tracks from the same artist still remain?

Custom race and online race payouts are still pathetic (I know you aren't supposed to play those modes for the credits but don't offer almost nothing instead of nothing, because then it feels like we should earn more)

Rallying physics are still really bad and unsatisfying (although that was the same in GT Sport)

Overall, it has got a lot better since my last review, but there is still many things to improve on before it becomes a great game like most of its predecessors.

As are the microtransactions which were added after the reviews were released and are there solely to show up how much of a grind the progression is in the latest instalment. Game is offline for more than a day only a few days after release. No communication whatsoever. If they decide to make the single-player mode online-only to protect their microtransaction system, they should at least be competent enough to keep servers running with a functional version of the game while working on the update. Also, the way they are pushing their 'optional' mtx system is disgusting. How is $70 not enough for a game with such high sale numbers?? Greedy! The game is great but is ruined by horrible executive decisions.

Gone are the good old days where you could see tons of events on the map, each focusing on a particular era of car, or drivetrain, or model, etc. In GT7, there’s really only three events available at a time and you’re pretty much forced to do them, because that’s the only way to unlock more. There’s also no point in getting anything beyond a National B license, because you’re never going to need anything higher. There’s two tiers of license that are completely skippable.

I was really hoping GT7 would be a return to form after the disappointment that was GT Sport, but ultimately all we got was pretty much the same game again. Except Sport actually has more events. As it stands, I definitely wouldn’t recommend this game, even to die-hard GT fans; unless you’re only interested in online races. Wait for a sale, or more content to be added, or both. In the meantime, maybe go play GT 4. Despite coming out well over a decade before GT 7, it has twice the cars, tracks and over three times the events, and it remains the best GT game by a long shot.

I have to give props to Polyphony and Sony for actually listening to the players and seeing that their greedy tactics of lowering the credits won via races weren't going to be accepted and they've raised most race payouts. There is a few enjoyable races now that pay over 80k+ credits which is nice. The cars are still too expensive and MTX is still a little to prevalent but once the grind seems at least okay then I can accept that.

I can't however give the game anything more than a 6/10 because of two features. Always online and always rolling starts. The always online won't go away because Sony want to force updates on you and keep the push for MTX. I know they won't change this though so no point even complaining, they want it to be a live service. If that is the case then don't charge full price.

Almost all races are rolling starts, this is to hide the fact the AI just aren't intelligent enough to create an engaging and challenging race from the grid so the game creates a faux challenge with 25-45 second rolling starts. This turns the game from the real racing simulator the the real chasing simulator. Chasing cars isn't racing. If I could have one thing changed it would be to have the game take away rolling starts (except for a few mission challenges) and create a proper racing system. One that makes you do a qualifying time trial to determine your place in the grid then have a race that starts on the grid.

Maybe, they'll change this. I'm not sure but I can't get on board with the modern AAA method of releasing half a game at full price and then releasing the rest over time in updates.

I really enjoy this game and see myself playing it for years, I'm even considering getting a driving sim rig to enjoy it more. The cars feel amazing, the graphics are mind-blowing (some scapes look like actual pictures), the community is great with decals, liveries, suits etc. (even though we need an app like GT Sport) and the overall game is fun and pretty addictive. But this is Gran Turismo, this should be perfect but it has some big problems holding it back.

Why spend 80 dollars on a game that feels more like a beta than a finished product? You buy a 50k car to put over 75k more money into it to win races and guy what? When you get your payout. Decepcionante en una palabra.
Micropagos, servidores que no funcionan durante horas, salto gráfico para nada espectacular...

They made a big step with 1.110 to fix the payoffs for the later events. But there are still some really serious UX Problems.

Money Problem is a little better now. But a lot of things are just too hard for casual gamers and and the big money you get for gold ratings which are just impossible for me. .

Gran turismo 7 is a great game but the micro transactions and the fact that you always have to be connected to Internet makes it kinda bad

Difficult to buy the few nice cars the game has, the money rewards are low. There are more than 400 cars, but most of them are old and boring. It looks like after patch 1.07 they want you to buy the cars with real money. I have WiFi disconnecting some times, and when it happens, I lose all the race progress or the championship. We need offline play!!

Lear your lesson PD and Sony, don’t bite the hand that feeds you. Great game, but I wish you took a different approach.

Excellent game, but the problem is that it is always online, even for races and offline events.
Post-race rewards have decreased forcing players to buy cars with microtransactions is a terrible point.

Classic franchise ruined by tuning the economy to encourage microtransaction purchases on top of the game's $70 sticker price. The rotating Legends shop and invitation-only purchases for some cars are manipulatively designed to increase FOMO and drive microtransactions. Car prices are inflated compared to previous titles, and payouts for race wins are much lower. This is the greediest AAA game I've ever played, and Sony/Polyphony's lack of apology is shocking.

Do not buy this until they fix the economy.

Gran Turismo 7 is quite the rewarding racing experience, getting the all-too-well known feeling of shaving a second or two off your lap times by finally removing the training wheels and racing without the assists. The community is creative, (mostly) friendly and always down for a good race. Unfortunately, the game has some jarring issues that have been left unaddressed by Polyphony and Sony (as of this review, there has been no changes to the extremely low payouts and extremely pricey vehicles, and more importantly the game still requires a PS+ or Xbox Gold subscription), and even more unfortunate that it is so bad that it affects the rating.

    Pros:
    Beautiful graphics and stunning cars
    Friendly community
Great haptic feedback on the PS5

    Cons:
    Forced microtransactions
Short, boring single player campaign (Cafe Mode)
    Unrewarding payouts
    Lack of tracks
Lack of replayability (No Season, Grand Prix, Custom Championship, etc)

A game with good gameplay which is completely let down by slow progression which has been made even slower with the recent patch and a push for microtransations. Here's is a re-cap

-online only required for single player content -slow progression in terms of credit rewards which has been halved in the most recent update 1.08 -push for micro transations that are up to 7 times more

-online only required for single player content
-slow progression in terms of credit rewards which has been halved in the most recent update 1.08
-push for micro transations that are up to 7 times more expensive than GT Sport. The definition of micro: very small involving minute quantities or variations. So really these are macro transactions.
-with roulette rewards your always guaranteed the smallest prize

    Updated 08/23
-since release they have added cars, 2 new tracks, ability to sell cars, ability to buy engine parts, & full VR
-the updates have been decent especially full VR but there are still many qualify life issues and lack of single player content. You can't create your own custom championship for example and many tracks are lacking events which makes many of the cars you already own useless.

After consideration of the latest statement. I give the game 6/10. Still waiting them to fixed the game and possibly remove online single player.

Gran Turismo 7 has a lot of good and plenty of great. The use of DualSense and the particularly well-tuned loading is exemplary, and there's a huge amount of work behind the game, with a lot of detail that's almost hard to believe at times. [Issue#318]

Gran Turismo 7 brings to the tracks every single thing fans always wanted: the GT Mode everyone loves, plenty of customization options, car loads, classic scenarios and one of the best DualSense and 3D Audio experiences the PS5 has to offer. This is the best Gran Turismo experience we have ever seen in a long time.

Gran Turismo 7 is a love letter to motorsport history and an impeccable technical showcase. The franchise's traditional formula gets good improvements, but it's still extremely true to its roots. One of the best racing series ever shines spectacularly on the PS5.
