Thank you for listening to your fans, Polyphony Digital! Free 1,000,000 credits, increase on payouts across the board, the ability to sell cars once again, and the addition of some endurance races, including a 24 hour race! Huge improvement from the last update!

Expand

It has its flaws and like always PD can't seem to fix public lobbies for some strange reason... Also, the game requiring an online connection for single-player content is outright outrageous. No FOV slider, or enough seat adjustability if you want to play with cockpit mode on a flat screen.

Regardless of the above, the driving experience is addictive, and online racing just works!

How are So many important manufacturers absent? How are So many great cars absent? How is simulating the inability to obtain your dream car in real life supposed to be a joyful experience? These dream cars are already unobtainable in my simple working class existence. I used to play games to escape from the mundane and forget that I was a loser in life. Now, thanks to GT7, I get to perpetuate my mundane existence digitally as well. It's so fun buying an economy class grocery getter, and dreaming of one day bolting on enough stupid parts that I can place 5th to Sophy. Speaking of the AI, why does every race force me to start in 20th place? I can't get a qualifying lap? Sophy, so brilliant Sophie, superhuman Sophy, needs me to start 20th......and then somehow cleanly pass her 19 times in the hopes of earning 50% more credits than already were not enough credits to ever afford a Paganni. Nope, all I can afford is maybe a panini. Just like my real loser life. This isn't Gran Turismo....it's the Grand Tragedy. Oh and should I finally grind away long enough to have 12,000,000 credits, I also have to suffer the indignity of the invite. Money isn't even enough, I have to be deemed worthy of an invitation to purchase some of these things. Talk about art imitating life. Then we have the roulette wheel thing. Just like in GT Sport, this stupid thing will award you stuff you already have. That's not a reward. Winning a duplicate SIMULATED item which you can't even sell for credits is simply another way of insulting you. So I received an invitation to buy the Carrera GT I did. Then, same day, I won the stupid car after completing the final championship race. Here's a tip. Fix it so the game will never reward you a car which you've already acquired. Since we can't sell anything, seems logical not to be forced to stable duplicate copies of fake things. I feel like the people making the decisions about how to handle cars and credits are so far removed from where the minds of players are. None of us want to pay more real money for fake cars. It's dumb. Actually it's simply greedy, since obviously nobody at polyphony is dumb. Out of touch yes. Dumb no. Greedy most likely yes. Expand

For the most part a lovely game with superb driving physics.

However - rewards and cost of legendary cars is terrible. 18,000,000 for one car demands a player that has no life beyond GT7 or can afford MTX.....actually they're not Micro at all. To buy an 18,000,000 credit car would cost you nearly £150...* Also, on a technical note Polyphony. Sort out the optimisation - the framerate

Also, on a technical note Polyphony. Sort out the optimisation - the framerate is shocking on some tracks with 20 cars, especially Spa. This is basic LOD stuff - if a car is middle/far distance then drastically reduce its detail. Stable framerate on a racer is an absolute must.

*UPDATE: The 1.11 update has made rewards fairer and added some excellent races. The 30min Le Mans is great with weather changes and a decent reward. Still going to be a grind to try to afford the gorgeous Alfa 8C 2900B, but more achievable now. PD moving in the right direction. Keep it up please.

Making credits to purchase cars up to the 1mil mark no longer feels like a grind, but instead like a rewarding goal to work towards with not too much gameplay time spent.

Score is set to 8 for me as I think the multiplayer component could do with more work, a general matchmaking besides the 3 weekly races would add more variety, also the ability to populate multiplayer open lobbies with AI would be a welcome addition.

Original review - Score 0 before patch 1.11:
Great gameplay and a fantastic driving model is locked behind a predatory microtransaction based economy, what was a suspicion was verified in patch 1.07 when most race rewards were cut significantly.
Café missions provide around 2-4 hours of good gameplay, however once these are completed you find yourself with little in the way of single player races, licences and circuit experiences provide some additional gameplay but at a significant difficulty hike which to casual users may prove frustrating.
Online mode is still limited to 3 daily (weekly) races with the occasional championship and open lobbies, I think much of the community would have appreciated a general matchmaking race system and/or the ability to populate open lobbies with AI to create meaningful online races with a full grid.

In conclusion (If Gran Turismo was your chosen flavour of racing), for offline play try GT6, for online play try GT Sport, IMO GT7 current does a worse job at both the aforementioned titles.

Anticipated a whole world opening up during/after menus but it's not in the game yet. PLEASE REMOVE THE PAINFUL MICROECONOMICS, SONY, YOU ARE DESTROYING THIS GAME BEFORE IT CAN EVEN GET STARTED. DON'T BRING THE WORST OF REAL LIFE INTO VIDEOGAMES, WE WANT A BALANCED GAME,

!!!NOT PAY TO WIN AND GRIND TO PLAY!!!

The improvements did not make the game more fun, enjoyable, or replayable. So sad to lose out on such a great base for a game, it is just that the experience is absolutely not entertaining, it is work, and not a passive enjoyment which is why I personally play videogames. Also I have never felt like such a loser everytime I get a rulette ticket before I even open the ticket, when something appears random I shouldn't be able to predict the lowest outcome to occur 9/10 times. Please, make the game feel like it wants me to play it, I love Gran Turismo 2, 3, 4, and 6. Do some homework Poly-"Phoney" and create real incentives that keep me playing the game.

These tactics realated to establishing "Real Perceived Value" from an in game economy are going to appear in God of War Ragnarok, and Harry Potter Legacy as well. If there is a dedicated player base for a game....
SONY WILL FINANCIALLY TAKE YOUR MONEY AS WELL,
with very little offered in return FOR YOUR OBIDIENCE!

Update 1.110.000 has released and it is a great first step in reclaiming the some of the respect back for a game that should have released this way from the beginning.

I hope Sony tries a lot better to listen to what is going on economically in the world right now and understand they are going to have to make there money on digital transactions based on REAL PERCEIVED MONETARY VALUE, and I am certain spending a small amount of money up front to do some real market research would have done a lot to solve the PR problem that Gran Turismo 7 has become.

The game is basically a 10/10, but the micro-economy has to be explained clearly to the gamers so they understand what the limits truly are. Solid improvements but more is still going to need to be done about the offline play as well.

I have never played a Gran Turismo game that:
-The game still has an upper limit cap of 100,000,000Cr. on non-paid credits (Otherwise known as Earned Effort credits). Don't get me wrong that is a lot but there happens to be no limit on the amount of credits earned spending real world dollars, Otherwise known as your personal income. This could start going down a dark road in the future.

-You still can only fully play the game while connected to the internet at-all-times. (Sport and Online modes are an obvious exception).

-Why can I not sell cars, in a game trying to be the REAL DRIVING SIMULATOR. WTF SONY YOU ARE GETTING GREEDY.

A game I really enjoy even without spending an extra buck after buying it on day one. Yes, there are problematic areas with the micro transactions push and the rewards (too little to progress without paying) but they don't take away from the main mechanics of the game, which is thoughtfully enjoyable, even on PS4.

Beautiful cars many tracks. The impression of the game is good, but they ruined their reputation. This game should be given one more chance to make it right, I'd like to see in Metacritic strong 8. Second, the physics. This is NOT a driving simulator, it's a video game. I have owned several vehicles featured in Gran Turismo and none of them handle anything like the real thing. What it is is a fun racing game that'll draw you in.
I've seen this series come a long way since 1997 when I got hold of the first demos of GT1. GT2 got seriously slammed for it's graphics, probably a lot more than ya'll are slamming GT7 for the micro transactions No one is forcing you to buy the expensive cars up front Get you a car you can win a few races with. Fuera de eso el juego no está mal, los graficos pudieron haber sido mas next gen como forza, pero en terminos generales creo que mantiene esa magia de gran turismo, y me ha parecido muy divertido y entretenido

Another issue was the penalty system online is stupid. It allows people to intentionally knock a racer off the track and only lose a few seconds. Hopefully this has improved since.

Gran Turismo 7 is the latest installment in the Gran Turismo racing game series. The game features a variety of cars, tracks, and racing modes, as well as a new photo mode and livery editor.

The game has been praised for its visuals, sound design, and racing physics. However, it has also been criticized for its microtransactions and always-online requirement.

Here are some of the pros and cons of Gran Turismo 7:

    Pros:

    Stunning visuals
    Immersive sound design
    Realistic racing physics
    Variety of cars and tracks
New photo mode and livery editor
    Cons:

    Microtransactions
    Always-online requirement
    Grindy progression
Overall, Gran Turismo 7 is a visually stunning and immersive racing game. However, its microtransactions and always-online requirement may be a turn-off for some players.

Here are some specific thoughts on what I liked and disliked about the game:

    Liked:

The visuals are simply stunning. The cars look amazing, the tracks are beautifully rendered, and the weather effects are breathtaking.
The sound design is also top-notch. The engine sounds are realistic and the ambient sounds really help to immerse you in the experience.
The racing physics are excellent. The cars handle realistically and the racing feels smooth and fluid.
There is a wide variety of cars and tracks to choose from. There is something for everyone, from classic cars to modern supercars.
The new photo mode is a lot of fun. It allows you to take stunning photos of your cars and tracks.
The livery editor is also a lot of fun. It allows you to customize the look of your cars with a variety of decals and liveries.
    Disliked:

The microtransactions are a bit too aggressive. It is possible to progress through the game without spending any money, but it will take a lot of time and effort.
The always-online requirement is also a bit annoying. If you lose your internet connection, you will not be able to play the game.
The progression can be a bit grindy. It can take a long time to earn enough credits to buy new cars and upgrades.
Overall, I would give Gran Turismo 7 a 8/10. It is a visually stunning and immersive racing game, but its microtransactions and always-online requirement may be a turn-off for some players.

Oringinal review March 2022, Score 0:
Gran Turismo 7 is a fantastic game, but what Sony and Polyphony Digital with monetisation and reducing race payouts is just greedy. It puts them almost equal with EA, Take Two and Ubisoft in being greedy publishers, that only care for money and not gamers.

We all know that reducing race payouts and increasing car costs is a way to make us spend real money on buying credits. Before the 1.07 patch, I was thinking that buying credits was not a bad option, if I didn’t have enough at the time, now that Sony and Polyphony Digital are trying to force us to buy credits by reducing payouts, I will never
    spend any money on credits.

Also, why do we need online connection to servers to play solo? This make no sense and just makes it impossible to play when the servers are down.

I’ve played Gran Turismo since it first came out in 1997, 25 years ago, for the first week of Gran Turismo 7, I was feeling very nostalgic, seeing the old track in there upgraded form. Now after patch 1.07 I’m feeling frustrated and disappointed, the reduced payouts make the game too much of a grid to earn enough to buy and upgrade the top cars.
We know Sony and Polyphony Digital did this because not enough people were spending money on buying credits, and we were playing the high payout races repeatedly to earn credits, but this is a key part of the game, we race because it is fun and to earn credits to buy more cars. We don’t play games to spend money on microtransactions.

Another problem with the game is the roulette mechanic, it is too much like gambling in its visual presentation, and it is rigged to give the lowest reward 95% of the time. I tested this buy saving up tickets and then opening them in one go, and I pretty much got the lowest reward every time.

The cars handle really well too - at its' core, it has everything a really decent driving sim needs.

But the menus and user experience is horrendous. As in proper, bafflingly bad. And because of the way the game is designed you are constantly in this menuing system almost as much as on the track, if not more, so it's a complete killer in terms of how enjoyable the experience is.

Add to that very limited free play options - you can't design your own races or just pick from the selection of cars and... well, race. In a racing game. And then add to that an always online requirement for single player and hideous microtransactions that inevitably lead the game design to feature hefty grind mechanics and... well, you have a ball that has been well and truly dropped here.

This should have been great. It isn't. And that's a crying shame. As said, the racing itself is fine - good even - but there's many more games, even within the GT series itself, which does it just as good, if not better, without having to deal with the maddening nonsense that surrounds it in GT7.

Wait for a hefty sale or get it second hand.

I turn this game on to race, not to role play . Feels like a Jrpg system with weird dialogues and not everyone is a fan of those, including myself. The café should be an option but they made the whole single player experience revolve around it. The other thing I really don’t like is the lack of qualifying laps before a race..what? Why are there no qualifiers?? You always start dead last which means you’re going to have to beef up your car and trade paint constantly because you have 5 laps to overtake 15 cars. Again,it’s weird. That’s not how racing works in real life and this is supposed to be the real driving simulator right? Makes gran turismo feel like a cross between a sim and an arcade racer. I don’t understand why polyphony decided to take these unnecessary risks when every single fan just wanted a good old fashioned gt game on current gen consoles. I get it,some people are new to it but include these changes as an option instead of turning the whole game inside out. At least they kept the replays thankfully. 7 out of 10 for me. Expand

Looks like Kaz listened to us, therefore I'm raising my score back up. We can now sell our cars, and the credit system is going to be changed again for the better.

PLUS, latest patch shove down some pretty agressive microtransaction strategy, basically lowering the prize money you get from the races, to make you spend real money.

Edit: The devs listened to the players. It appears they will be implementing some great changes in the next month, like double rewards, be able to sell cars, bigger wallet for in-game earns, and 1 mil to everybody affected by the server outage. That's why I'm changing the rating from zero to 7. If all of the updates truly are what they seem, I'll be back to give a 10.

I'm very disappointed in the latest installment of this beloved series. I have all the previous game, and none of them full price 80€ game had such micro-transaction pressure.
The amount of money you make in the game make it a complete plain to pay with in game credit for the most expensive car. This is NOT how micro-transaction should work. not for a free to play game, and certainly not

Grind or pay, but you can forget the fun...

And the Solo campaigne required connection is just a spit in the face. I cannot play when your server are offline? You're wasting my time Polyphony Digital....

You drop the ball on that one. I will change my score if you patch all this crap though

    March 7th 2022 Update
Upgraded the rating to 7 because last patch 1.11 improve economics a lot.
Won't go higher because we are still required to be connected for solo play which is a big downside
Could add some cafe menu on pit stop, changing weather, endurance races, cars from other countries, circuit experience, GR1 cars, VGT cars, etc.
I've finish the cafe menu solo play with only 80 cars... and most of them are not a million credit car. Am I supposed to mindlessly grind a billion credit to buy the 300+ remaining cars, most of them costing several millions credit?
I would have expected a better polished game from PD instead of a game as a service with constant update.

It seems Jim Ryan and other PlayStation executives have seen the success of other greedy predators (WOOPS, publisher's) like Phil Spencer and Xbox (who's Forza Motorsport 5, 6, and 7, Halo Infinite, Halo 5, Halo Wars 2, Gears 4 & 5 all have filthy Micro-transactions in them) and pushing Polyphony Digital to do the same. Some cars can cost up to $29 real world dollars. It's foul, and has been unlike Sony up to this point. Now, I will not be overly slamming Polyphony Digital for the always online connection for the Single Player portion of GT 7. But it is unacceptable. I personally have come not to expect much from PlayStation when it comes to server side support because they have routinely cut support for their games much earlier than their main rivals Xbox. That said, it is still BS as no Single Player portion of any game should rely on internet connection to servers. Stop it.

Games are not a "Service". And they should not be treated as such. They are art

The predecessor GT Sport was a fantastic game for the PS4 era. GT7 can’t provide the same package for the PS5 and greatly falls behind. All the new stuff around driving is unnecessary and almost frustrating. Probably this is a Gran Turismo which Ubisoft would make. I don’t like the car upgrade section at all and how I can adjust settings. I don’t like the coffee store. I don’t like how the campaign is divided into countries. Too much sequences to skip when you would like just driving. The HDR implementation feels less vibrant. The weather conditions has increased but sunny day looks again almost better than all others. The lens shift effect on the sides doesn’t feel as dramatic as in GT Sport. The sharpening of the asphalt near at bottom of the screen has reduced. In GT7 again, I can’t disable the mirror in the carless view, also I can’t change the vertical angle of the camera.

My biggest concern is the visual fidelity of racing which is almost equal to GT Sport. The raytracing effect isn’t noticeable when driving. The city tracks often looks like playing GT2 on the PS5. At night it doesn’t looks well at all. Weather conditions don’t provide enough visual impact. Just some more trees here and there I have noticed.

Long story short, the best Gran Turismo experience you can get in 2022 was already provided by GT Sport.

    Appendix to the VR mode:
The new VR mode is a huge step into the right direction, it is more serious integrated as GT Sport VR mode. But it couldn’t catch me personally. The immersion isn’t just good enough for me. The car interior really shines out, but everything else outside the car isn’t as much detailed. The feel of drive is good but it is so much far away from the immersion when racing in Wipeout VR. The latter offers still the best racing experience on the Playstation VR system, immersive-wisely.

The game lacks a proper carrer mode and the main progression is tied to what should have been some side challenges for collecting cars and learning about them. The game has a lot of inconveniences for the player. You need to switch menus for things that should be available all in the same menu section. Car maintenance and tuning are separated into different menus screens, wide body kits and regular body kits are also separated in this manner. To simply change the colour of your car you need to create a livery project, choose your main color, save the project and apply it to your car. Cars are separated into 3 different dealerships and the opportunity to buy some cars is only available for a limited time. This wouldn’t be an issue if the game wasn’t obviously putting money roadblocks in your way to try and have you spend on micro transactions. You are unable to sell your cars but the game let’s you buy in game money as micro transactions.

Overall its has fun gameplay and a lot of content but it doesn’t have a player first mentality like the old games had.

Hmm, mega clumsy presentation which makes the first hours a dull grind. Good car handling and nice haptic controller feedback. I miss a custom championship mode. It's not a racing sim and the A.I. sucks. Could have been so much better.

The next generation realism is primarily felt in the outlier situations, and less so in the regular races. The extreme high speeds of the super cars feels absolutely next gen, it is difficult to put into words, but it is unlike any other game - you can truly feel the delicate grip you have to the road, you can hear the wind speed outside of the vehicle, the very subtle camera trembling, it’s all incredible. Another extreme is the handling while going through elevation changes, you can really feel the suspension of the vehicle getting harder or softer when cornering while uphill or downhill. The drastic changes in handling during extreme environment conditions such as rain is very tough and you can feel the fight with the poor grip. The attention to detail is fantastic, for example on a sunny morning track with recent rain, naturally the asphalt dries faster in the sun, so the side of the road that is still in the shade has wet asphalt and worse grip, it’s insane. The dynamic weather and time changes are fantastic. The World Mode menu system was overhyped, it really is just a new presentation of the same menu you would expect. It’s fine, but I find it odd that the based a lot of the hype around this menu system. It almost feels like they added menus and dialogue which take longer for you to actually get into races.

The graphics are stunning, as expected. I personally preferred the ray tracing mode for this game, because the game automatically shows you a replay after you complete your race, and it’s definitely noticeable in the replays. The sound design actually made a bigger impact than I thought - some vehicles are loud and roaring in the cockpit view, while some of the other vehicles are less loud but you can hear the wind resistance and gravel hitting the underneath of the vehicle more clearly. I wasn’t really thinking of the sound design going into the next generation of sim games, but the acoustics of sound bouncing off of surfaces in tunnels and against tall walls makes a huge difference in the replays. Otherwise the sounds are a relatively forgettable soundtrack and the same sound effects you remember from the other GT games.

For racing sim fans, this is the ultimate package, and it reaches new levels of realism. With that being said, I would love to see the GT team take a shot at something new next time. I really like the idea of a full fledged rally game. Imagine racing through heavily wooded areas in a snow storm with the realism of Gran Turismo.

Now to comment on what everyone else is whining about. I don’t like the always online, but it doesn’t bother me. I don’t like the the micro transactions, but it doesn’t bother me. The game really increases with the grinding when you start transitioning from the beginner/sports cars to the super cars, they just become very difficult to attain. It doesn’t ruin the experience, but I just don’t have the time to grind hours for one car to move forward. This doesn’t really begin until around 10 hours into the game. I think this was a terrible move, but it can be easily reversed by just allowing you to sell your extra cars like in any other Gran Turismo game. It lowered my score from an 8 to a 7.

Gran Turismo 7 has a lot of good and plenty of great. The use of DualSense and the particularly well-tuned loading is exemplary, and there's a huge amount of work behind the game, with a lot of detail that's almost hard to believe at times. [Issue#318]

Gran Turismo 7 is a love letter to motorsport history and an impeccable technical showcase. The franchise's traditional formula gets good improvements, but it's still extremely true to its roots. One of the best racing series ever shines spectacularly on the PS5.
