Enjoyed the first hours of gameplay but after completing the main “story” of the game it becomes lifeless and a soulless grind that is made exponentially worse by the developer continuing to push microtransactions. Disappointed is an understatement when talking about this historically brilliant franchise. Avoid this game at least until they put more care for the consumer into it.

Simply put, the game is not fun anymore. You cannot sell cars, and there are very few races available that pay a worthwhile number of credits, forcing you to replay the same race over and over again. Somehow they took the winning formula from the early games and made everything worse. In those games (GT 2,3,4) you were able to meaningfully progress with each race, and each car upgrade opened doors for more races, allowing you to feel like you were making your way up from the bottom in a racing career. In GT7, you're forced to collect dozens of reward cars that you won't ever drive or care about. Coupled with the rolling-start format of all the campaign races in which some of your opponents have a 30+ second lead, it just makes for a terrible single-player experience. I don't imagine this game will ever be fixed, since Polyphony has given in to greed and cynically tuned the game's mechanics to extract the most amount of money possible from players. Expand

For a full price game the move towards MTX after launch is unacceptable. NVM the online required connection the fact that we paid for a full game only to see it turn into a kind of mobile game economy where you have to continually invest in is beyond frustrating.
The game itself is very good and enjoyable but the obvious push for MTX breaks the whole thing..

I have played the title in the franchise and this by far the worst experience which is a shame because the physics and gameplay are great. With no tangible way to make in game credits the game becomes a grind that you my seem up for at first but quickly becomes tedious. As an example gr3&4 cars are a popular category for online races and most players would like to try a lot of the cars out and find the best one for them well there is 43 and some are more than 450k, roughly 17million to acquire all of the gr3 cars, with the 1.008 update and fisherman’s still being the best payout despite it being lowered to 30k (45k with clean bonus) you would have to complete the event 377 times which would take 18 hours of gameplay. By saying this I’m not expecting to play the game for a week and have all of the best cars from what pervious comments have mentioned, but you cannot ignore the lack of credits, cost of cars, and time required. Also, something everyone is forgetting to mention is that only 20 million free credits can be saved if you want more than 20 million the credits will have to be purchased and if cars in the hagerty legendary car dealership are more than 20million that will require real money. Lack of cars, pushing players towards mtx and 24 hour maintenance simply not good enough for a £69.99 title. I was really looking forward to jumping straight into races but I can't help but feel somewhat conned and the fact you basically can't play the game in an offline mode in this day and age is unacceptable.

The time you need to invest now for grinding to be able to upgrade your car or buy a new one is ridiculous! The note of Polyphony is not to be surpassed in ridiculousness when they dare to say that they want players to experience as many cars in many ways as possible without feeling the need to buy credit via microtransactions. How? By reducing the credits per win and therefore making it even harder to earn credit? (*that was ironically speaking)

As a normal player, you are being made fun of here. It seems, the only goal is to make as much extra money via microtransactions as possible.

With the little time I have, I do not think I will be able to finish the main quests before I get bored with farming. Too bad, the game looked promising.

This game is unplayable offline. If servers are down for “maintenance” you effectively can do nothing. It’s also micro transaction laced. You cannot drive the cars you like without paying outside fees. At first you could “grind” but they lowered payout so you can’t realistically earn the cars you bought the game for. I regret this purchase entirely. DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Graphics are great and gameplay is good, however, this game requires an always online connection, even for single player mode. In addition, the developer is pushing micro transactions and making it difficult with every update to be able to earn in game credits. The developer is trying to make this a pay to play game on top of the already high $70 price tag.

Servers down for more than 24 hours, reduced credit payouts that pushes you to buy credits after you've already spent $70 on the game. Actually ridiculous. Anyone associated with Polyphony should be ashamed. Will be refunding the game if they don't fix the credit payout with the next update.

Multiplayer is a let down and the once thriving community is now devoid of fun player events like drag and drifting due to simple lobby options that have existed in all previous titles.

The story campaign of becoming a professional driver feels like a half finished game. It's is currently lacking many enjoyable races to make in-game credits and no playing ground for their remarkable gt vision designs game credits and many different variations of races other than generic cars. The return of the tuning shop is a nice feature and allows players to enjoy customisation however it's is ridiculed by the fact that many options for buying cars and tuning cars which have such extreme costs via these in game credits that it outweighs the feature entirely

It feels as though the game has been released on a beta stage and with a 2 day outage with no reports from the developers and the explanation eventually being released which was something nobody had experienced also a update removing even more potential earnings from playing the lackluster of races. No compensation was given for this matter either. You can purchase a multitude of in game credits with real currency however defeating the purpose of playing a game again.

But then I realized that the money making process is very very slow, but still borderline. Then they just released a patch and reduced the money you get to "make the game more realistic" or as they probably really meant, make more money with the game as people will be more willing to spent money on microtransactions which btw are advertised constantly in the game. The game is also always online, even if you just want to play the singleplayer. Probably so that you cant use an older version where you get more money per race :)

Until now every first party Sony game was fair, (mostly) without microtransactions and when there where problems, the developers heard the feedback and did what the fans begged they would but this game concerns me, I know the game is not a 0 out of 10 but I hope that the developers will see the bad user score and change their mind and reverse their decision to make the game such a grind. Im a grown man, i dont have the time to play the game the whole day long to get some virtual cars. Please listen to the fans and let us have the old racing rewards or even increase them because even that was very very borderline.

It the most expensive cars in the series history just so the game can steer you into buying credits with real life money. Which it reminds you constantly every time you check your balance. Also, despite previous games allowing you to sell cars and the description of GT7 mentioning you can in the PSN store it is in fact a lie and you can not sell any cars.
It also uses a FOMO so if you don't have a few million credits just sitting in your balance then you will be forced to buy credits as the reward system doesn't allow you to work for the quantities required to get these cars in the time alloted.

The always online connection required for essentially a single player game is ridiculous. Especially with it's unplanned outages making the single player aspects of the game completely unplayable.

Polyphony Digital have a lot to answer for for this game and need to patch it to make the game playable off-line as well as fix the rewards and stop the the blatant push towards microtransactions.
Making microtransactions available only after the games release once all the positive reviews were already out is a dirty tactic and not one I'd expect from this series or even a first party exclusive Sony game.

I almost feel bad rating this game 0, but almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades... Just off the top of my head, here are a few reasons for my low rating (there are plenty more, though!):

-98% of the single player features will function without an internet connection (but still occupy around 80g+ of storage on your console). -Cannot sell cars, only discard them. -Insane

-Payouts lower than any other GT release (then nerfed some more after release).

I'll not give it a zero. The actual racing is great. There just isn't enough of it. Once you finish the "story", there is very little to do. No endurance races, no Monaco, etc. Then the in-game economy sucks. Very grindy, made worse with the most recent update.

Then there is the always online aspect. A problem with the most recent update had GT7 down and unplayable for around 30

If it were a free to play game, then sure, I could forgive the lack of content and money grabbing economy. But it's a AAA title with a AAA price tag. This simply isn't good enough for (what used to be) my favourite racing franchise.

I'd advise anyone considering this game to wait for a sale. Like a massive sale. Not even sure 50% off would tempt me had I not already bought it and knew what I now know.

The graphics are fantastic, the physics find a nice balance between arcade and sim, and you can really tell the creators put as much of their love of cars and car culture into this game as they could. Even though I don't think the cafe is as in-depth or rewarding to work towards completing as past single GT single player campaigns, I can appreciate it for what it is. But I can't appreciate that Polyphony Digital has taken 25 years of goodwill surrounding a beloved franchise and thrown it away for the sake of pushing microtransactions.

The in-game economy is clearly designed to encourage players to spend real money on in-game credits. Many of the cars in the game cost a substantial amount of money and can only be purchased under certain time-restricted conditions, a move that PD is clearly hoping will inspire FOMO-induced spending of real-world money. When players figured out which race had the most efficient time-to-credits payout, PD introduced a game update that substantially reduced that race's earnings. Gran Turismo games have always been grindy, but they've been fair. I don't want an easy game, but I also don't want a game that cheapens itself by making it feel like the only viable way to experience it the way I'd like is by spending more of my real money.

I could excuse that if this were a free-to-play game, but it isn't; GT7 is a full priced AAA title, and I'm one of the franchise enthusiasts who paid $90 for the commemorative 25th Anniversary Edition hard copy. To make things worse, the single player campaign requires an internet connection. That means that if my internet falters (a not-uncommon issue in rural America where I live) or if the company's servers are down for maintenance or repair (as they were recently, for many hours), I get a substantially impaired single player experience. Taking this to its inevitable conclusion, there may come a time when the company decides the game is no longer with supporting and shuts down the servers, resulting in all players losing their single-player progress and ability to play the full single player campaign.

I do have some hope, as these issues can be alleviated if PD cares enough to fix them. They've already said they'll be adding more races and championships over time to flesh out the single player campaign, and there's nothing keeping them from adjusting race payouts to better match the time commitments they require. And while I'm not a software engineer, I'd imaging there's a way they can eliminate the always-online requirement to access at least the core functionality of the single player campaign. The game may have some serious flaws, but also plenty of potential as long as PD decides to prioritize user experience over pushing microtransactions.

I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed. Do better, Polyphony Digital.

As far as gameplay, AI is pretty poor, cars look good in cut scenes but track scenery looks extremely basic. Lots of customization to do as expected but most of the racing is spent playing catch up to the leaders and earning cars that mostly go unused and most importantly, cannot be sold for cash to fund purchases for worthy cars.

Extremely disappointed in this purchase and wish I had at least bought the disc to sell it back. Instead, I'm stuck with a game I'm forced to spend real money on to enjoy.

So I waited to play the game until a new update was offered to fix the problem and made the game playable.
