Ein sehr gutes Spiel dennoch mit 2 3 Problemchen

Would actually give this game an 8.5. GoW 2018 was better in my opinion, but I think that is mostly because it came first. I don't feel like Ragnarök really built enough on top of 2018 to stand out. Great game, excellent smooth combat. It is definitely a must play PS5 game.

Los combates pueden ser un poco repetitivos cuando llevas unas horas jugando, pero la historia atrapa de tal manera que querrás saber como acaba. Santa Monica lo volvió hacer ¡Bravo!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Big Improvement over the 2018 GOW.

If you keep bragging about graphics, it's a complete same feel for me. It's all about resolution and texturing in the game so don't exaggerates thing. It's already a good graphics since 2018 and it's the same for me for Ragnarok graphics.

Combat is still the same but with some improvement where you can wield 3 weapons now and you can play around with your shield as well this time around. On top of that, you can play with Freya, although Freya is overall has the same behavior as Atreus in combat perspective but its just nice addition. They completely take many inspiration from TLOU2 where you can play as Atreus in this game.

Exploration of course a lot better with the addition of chaos blade to get around the area. No more slow ascending and descending the wall. Well, it still there but its almost none so it's fabulous because that's the reason why I hate 2018 GOW. On top of that, you can explore all nine realms, so more area to explore as well as puzzle which always great since the traditional GOW.

Now for story. It's wonderfully written and executed BUT it's weird for me as the characterization of some characters seems inconsistent along the way. Some part is very strong and "wow" me which makes me keep saying "Did Naughty Dog take part in the narrative of this game?" For example when Kratos go home with Atreus after Brok is murdered, the way Kratos explain the situation to Atreus completely reminds me of how Naughty Dog style of story-telling. And many more of that situation which make me attach to the story of Ragnarok better than 2018 GOW.
But, some part seems off for me, like Freya. Well, they build that relationship with Kratos helping her to retrieve her power back but really? Its that easy? The change from Freya is just too easy and sudden friendship being build there. 2nd, Kratos also very inconsistent in this game, he keep admitting he's wrong after he take certain action, like when he went to Asgard with "vengeance" in mind where Atreus mention before that it's all about justice but Kratos denies it. Then, along the way, Kratos realize "Yeah, I'm wrong, it's not vengeance but it's justice for Odin", like what?

I know you trying to create the human version of Kratos where Kratos is more emotional and keep positioning himself as parent rather than a God but for me it's completely make Kratos characterization seems weaker for me than the 2018 GOW. Yes, he is a father and God at the same time and that personality might be the reason of his inconsistency in this game but personally I hate that moment.

Overall a wonderful game and great sequel in Norse Saga of GOW. For Santa Monica, I do think you can stop here for GOW, if you are trying to make another GOW game, the expectation will be very high which might be very demanding and challenging as you cannot remove Kratos and go with another "God" character.

So this was like a final chance at the gow franchise for me. Lets go..

Story- 8.5/10- So much wasted potential and bad pacing. However, it was so engaging and a refreshing way because, its the longest gow game ever and its RAGNAROK!!
Kratos and Atreus already understand each other, however things still go wrong in their way and its the final arc of the father and son bonding and its just so emotinal and heart-warming to see ma old man smile....

The story is full of twists and turns that nobody will keep you hyped for what comes next. Unfortunately, the story is not up to the same quality as the one from 2018. This is not the Ragnarok story that was set up by 2018 and there are many people who have come to this conclusion. The new characters introduced in this game dont feel like they are from the same universe as the characters in 2018. Baldur, Modi, and Magni are all very serious and well written characters that don't feel nothing like thor, odin, or any of the Nasgard characters. It's the same feeling of going from The Incredible Hulk and the first Iron Man film to the Avengers. For this reason and many more inconsistencies in writting, the story is nowhere near as memorable or polished as GOW from 2018. Expand

Now for ragnarok. I was immensely excited for this game, considering I was so fond of the original. I went into it completely blind and here is my reaction:

    1. More of the same - god of war when released felt like an entirely new game, you wanted to explore everything and see every little thing, but with ragnarok that feeling is gone. It’s more or less the exact same game as the original, but with a new story. The gameplay feels nearly identical, the worlds have changed a small bit, but not enough to be worthwhile exploring every nook and cranny again. 2. The story - I have mixed feelings regarding this, I honestly believe the second games story was nowhere’s near as strong as the first games story. Although I did enjoy it, I found myself often getting bored while playing and found certain area’s way to dragged out. This is a feeling I did not experience with the first. 3. Next gen immersion - now this may be a personal preference, but this does not feel like a next gen game. I understand it was made and developed for ps4, but so was Forbidden west, and that felt like a next gen game. I have swapped between ps4 and ps5 while playing and found virtually no difference. I feel at this point games should be released at 4k 60fps not half and half/ or have to wait months for a upgrade. At the very least it would have made the game feel a bit next gen.

Based on the above, while I do love this game and recommend it as a must play, I rated it a 9 because I did have a few minor quirks that could have easily been fixed.

Building upon the successful foundation of its predecessor, the combat in Ragnarok is more fluid, diverse, and challenging. Kratos' Leviathan Axe and Atreus' bow have been further fine-tuned, making each strike and shot feel satisfyingly impactful. The variety of moves, combos, and abilities available to Kratos are expanded, allowing players to develop their own combat style.

Additionally, the introduction of new weapons and abilities, acquired throughout the journey, adds depth to the combat system. From powerful elemental gauntlets to devastating runic attacks, players have a broader arsenal at their disposal. This variety encourages experimentation and caters to different playstyles, making battles engaging and rewarding.

God of War Ragnarok also introduces thrilling boss encounters, each uniquely designed and challenging in their own right. These epic battles test the player's skills and strategic thinking, requiring more than just brute force to overcome. The satisfaction of triumphing over formidable foes is unparalleled, and these moments are among the game's highlights.

On the other hand, the narrative in God of War Ragnarok feels overcrowded and lacks the focused storytelling that made the 2018 installment so captivating. While the first game followed a simple yet powerful father-son journey, Ragnarok attempts to weave a complex tale involving various Norse gods, realms, and conflicts. As a result, the plot feels rushed, and some storylines are underdeveloped.

The emotional depth and character development, which were the heart of the 2018 game, take a backseat in Ragnarok. The relationship between Kratos and Atreus feels somewhat neglected, as the narrative jumps from one event to another, leaving little room for meaningful interactions between the two. This lack of emotional connection diminishes the impact of pivotal moments, making them feel less significant than they should.

Furthermore, the inclusion of multiple story arcs and side quests introduces an abundance of characters and lore, often overwhelming the player. While it's exciting to explore the vastness of Norse mythology, it comes at the cost of a tightly-knit narrative. The side quests, while adding to the game's longevity, can feel distracting and dilute the main story's focus.

God of War (2018) was celebrated for its character-driven narrative and emotional resonance, but Ragnarok struggles to maintain the same level of depth and intimacy. The pacing suffers as a result, leaving players with little time to process events and connect with the characters on a deeper level.

Another aspect that takes away from the narrative experience is the open-world nature of Ragnarok. While the idea of exploring the realms and discovering hidden secrets is enticing, it can feel like a departure from the linear, cinematic experience of the previous game. The world of Ragnarok is vast, and the sheer amount of content can sometimes be overwhelming, taking away from the more focused storytelling that made its predecessor memorable.

In conclusion, God of War Ragnarok successfully refines the combat mechanics that made its predecessor a triumph. The fluidity, diversity, and challenge of the combat system elevate the gameplay to new heights, making battles exhilarating and satisfying. However, the narrative of Ragnarok feels rushed and overloaded, with too much going on compared to the simplicity and emotional depth of God of War (2018).

The ambitious attempt to incorporate multiple story arcs and side quests in an open-world setting sacrifices the focused storytelling and character-driven experience that defined the 2018 game. While God of War Ragnarok remains an enjoyable and visually stunning experience, it falls short of capturing the same emotional resonance that its predecessor achieved with a more straightforward, powerful narrative. Nevertheless, fans of the franchise and those interested in Norse mythology will still find much to appreciate in this epic adventure.

Very disappointing. Mechanically it’s rather regressive. Puzzles are dumbed-down. Story is stupid. Monsters aren’t much better than 2018. World is clunky. Beautiful but unusable. But on sale if you want continuation of 2018, otherwise play gow2018 instead. This one is really bad.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It’s still a solid game. But I’m biased because I love the franchise. There are some very noticeable issues in this game. First and foremost is all the bugs in the launch version. I’ve never encountered any glitches in my three play throughs of 2018 but ran into so many in Ragnarok in just my initial playthrough. Some were serious enough that I had to restart checkpoint to continue. It’s just not polished enough.

The gameplay is fun. Basically the same formula with a few tweaks. I loved it in 2018 so I’m not complaining. The new addition is really useful, but a bit overpowering? The spear basically became my main weapon in the second half of the game.

The story overall is a good conclusion to the duology. There are issues in pacing at times. Like riding a buffalo (for an hour?) with Angrboda is kind of excessive. The important bits of conversations could have been merged into the two gameplay missions in that sequence. I understand the devs want us to know all about the giants and Angrboda. But because it was so long and boring, I started losing interests and stopped paying attention to whatever they were saying, which defeats the purpose.

And also there are noticeable gaps in the story. Maybe something cut? Like when Kratos and Atreus decided that they would not pursue Ragnarok any more and Freya went back to Vanaheim, the next story mission was to go after her. Why did you let her go in the first place? Just felt strange.

I like the ending plot. I think it suits the theme. But it’s underwhelming for its lack of grandeur. I know they had a change of mind and wanted to avoid more destructions and casualties. But maybe a more chaotic battlefield would make this change even more convincing?

The best part of the game for me so far is the side quests. It’s just fun exploring and some areas are very well designed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ragnarok has to be One of the top 3 in the story-driven games that were released this year, and despite the great similarity between it and its predecessor, it outperformed the latter in several points.
Firstly, the graphics have become much better than the previous part, and I personally liked it very much, but it could have been a better increase if the game had supported Ray tracing, and better lighting in some of the Cutscenes, but in general, the graphics are perfect and the clarity is excellent, especially when you feel like watching The world from above with the amount of immersive atmosphere you feel.
Secondly, and the most important thing, the story, frankly, the story is great and befits the level of the previous part and more, the characters are very well written, and the interaction between them is dynamic and lively, and each one has his own prestige and the way he imposes himself on the screen is more like a movie than a mere game, which is an element that Very few games know how to master, especially adventure games. The thing I didn't like or rather annoyed me was that the game felt a bit heavy in presenting the events for the first six hours, and contained many moments that felt rather just begging for your attention and emotions, let alone other instants that felt completely unnecessary and just pumping up the game time, regardless, But everything from the start to the end was pretty good, I would have also loved if the story ended in a more tragic way, but maybe sometimes it is for the best, and the ending was bittersweet for both Atreus and Kratos, and we saw a very emotional side of the latter.
Thirdly, the gameplay, the gameplay is similar if it was not the same as the first part, with additions whose numbers are small, but their impact is great and radical, the world has become bigger, better, and diverse, the enemies, unlike the previous part, have become much more difficult and diverse, and you feel the difficulty, focus and the heaviness of planning in fighting each type of them that needs a specific strategy in order to defeat them. I loved playing as Atreus and how it was very different from Kratos’ style, the thing that gave the game a new fresh breath. The optimization is quite mid, but it is possible that I did not count this because I could not download the Day one patch, I encountered almost three glitches only, but none was able to ruin the experience for me
In summary, the game gets a solid 9, and that's it.

10 hours in, all I can say is that the story is so good and I want to finish it soon. But....This is clearly a PS4 game, which has been optimized for PS5. The cross-gen roots and bottlenecks are visible in asset quality, textures, etc. Combat is amazing. Performance is smooth @ 60 fps. But it's possible only because of it's compromise in visual quality.

The game's combat was freaking amazing a straight 10/10, the best soundtracks ever in a God Of War game but the story was lacking not in a bad story sense but it was lacking the momentum of a God Of War game so id give 8/10 to story.. so all that said 9/10 is a perfect score for this game..

SoI have been waiting for this game for so long and after finally getting it and beaten the story, I absolute will say this is my Game of the Year. I’m a huge God of War fan for a long time so this review may come off bias however I’m also critical because of it. God of War 2018 was a big leap in terms of every thing from the story, characters, pantheon, gameplay, even Kratos himself. So knowing when there is going to be a sequel, everyone including myself had high expectations, and for me, it has missed a couple of things I expected but also exceeded it in others. This game is a LOT bigger this time in terms of story, characters, realms, gameplay, puzzles, and enemies, which is something we all wanted. SM did an amazing job listening to the community and gave us that. They have truly expanded on the gameplay aspect that makes even puzzle sections in the game rewarding with the new ways of traversing through platforms, upgrading your favorite move sets, armor upgrades have been expanded, and the combat feels much more fluid. Even the executions has become slightly more brutal, although executing wulvers from the first game is still my favorite. Not to try to spoil anything but you also get to play a different character which I actually find his combat to be more exciting as it gives you variety. My only gripes I have with this game was how certain characters turned out, story being a little choppy since it has to cover every Norse God and their background, and wished that certain battles were more epic than what we received, especially since this is the closing story of Norse Mythology. I wanna say one of the characters who annoyed me for a time is Atreus, at least from the beginning towards the middle of the game. His obsession with prophecy and acting like he knows so much frustrated me at times, which perfectly describes what dealing with a teenager is like. But in a sense I find him to be a relatable because I’m sure we all thought we know what’s best for ourselves and the world when we hardly got to experience it yet. In terms of combat, you’ve truly seen the growth in how far he’s come with how he fights and uses his own abilities. Sometimes I even stand back and watch him brutally beating an enemy with his bow, and can’t help but smirk with how impressed I am. Seeing him grow from this curious child to slowly becoming someone with discipline makes me wonder if the devs can perhaps create a dlc or spin off with Atreus being the lead character, either it be as he is now or an experienced young adult. But I will say that overall, I can’t say that I wanted a different ending than what we received as it truly was a story of not so much only fighting in Ragnarok, but the redemption of Kratos’ as a character. This game has done an amazing job being able to show Kratos’ growth from the first game to who he is now as a wise father that understands that being a God is a very fragile responsibility as everything you do or say has an impact on the world. Although it would have been more fun to see Kratos show off 100% of his Godly power and unleash the monster he once was more often, I feel satisfied with what they’ve done with his character. I wish to say more without spoiling but just do understand that this game is well worth the experience. So much love has been put into this game and I can truly feel that. This game isn’t perfect by any means, but it’s one of the most memorable games you’ll ever play of 2022. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. God of War Ragnarök is a roller coaster for sure. Amazing game with a brilliant story fleshed out in the main path but also really well developed side quests. I loved this game but have a few nick picks regarding the bosses and story. Below are my issues - The question of 'Who blew the horn to summon the serpent in 2018' - This was never answered - Should have been able to weird Mijolnir at somepoint for a section of a boss battle or one segment of the campaign
    - Should have been able to go on the rainbow bridge for a segment of campaign (maybe part of the Heimdall boss fight)
    - Would have been really cool if Fenrir ate Odin as per norse mythology - Played as Atreus a bit too much in the main story for me - Could have done with better pacing boss fights as like GOW 2018 (Fighting Thor 3 times rather than 2 would probably have done it)

These are all fairly minor story beats/critiques to a game I'll remember and continue to replay for many many years to come but just wanted to share some honest opinions 9.5/10 for me

Before buying it I knew this game was going to be perfect, and my expectations were high. Of course, it shattered them. Within the first hour, the game is already trying to invoke tears into my eyes with the death of Atreus' wolf. Every part of this game is compelling. You can tell other people agree when over 10% of the people who played it have the platinum. There's always something to do, even when it can get tedious sometimes. My only problem with it was the fact that every time I play this, it overheats my PS5. Regardless if i wipe it down or lay it vertical. This may be a design flaw itself or the game is so intricate that even the 5th generation of console can't handle it. All around, this game is a must play and Santa Monica has developed a masterpiece. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is not perfect. However it is still one of the best experience I've had playing a game. The art direction is absolutely splendid, sound design is amazing, side quests are very well made at least the more character focused ones, they tie in very well to the main story. The voice acting is some of the best in gaming. However there are some aspects that makes this game a 9/10 to me instead of a 10/10.

First thing is the story. Don't get me wrong it was good and filled with emotions but just wasn't told in the best way. It felt like the game needed to me a bit longer to tell the story properly. They were trying to do too many things in too little amount of time which made the story feel rushed at times. But overall the story and most of the main characters were very well written.

Second, I did not really like how many hours we play as Atreus for how short the story felt. In the end It felt like i didn't spend enough of the journey with Kratos. Gameplay of Atreus was really enjoyable but too drawn out and too long. Just my opinion though. Its not that big of a deal.

I also really hoped that they gave Kratos new moves. Sure the new weapon is a breath of fresh air when it comes to combat but nothing changed with the Leviathan Axe and the Blades of Chaos from the last game. I really loved the combat in the last game so I loved it in this one too but they could've have given Kratos a handful of new moves at least with new animations. I guess their focus went into Atreus and the new weapon instead.

And I think the last and biggest problem I had with the game was the dialect. It had no business being as modern as it was. The dialog really stuck out like a sore thumb. Like Odin saying "my ex". Anyways I don't know if it bothered others but it certainly did me.

In all main titles of the franchise, Ragnarök except of combat has a worst pacing and story. But it's still of of the bests.

The game starts immediately after the end of its prequel, so in terms of narrative and storytelling it requires to have beaten (at least) the main game, although its highly recommendable to have been through the side content as well.
In terms of gameplay, the game feels more agile and intuitive than its prequel, especially in specific features as climbing. The combat mechanics are deeper, more polished and have more variety as well. Moreover, the number of environments and scenarios you can get immersed into is greater, and visiting the different Realms is an audiovisual marvel, as the technical quality of the game is beyond question, as well as its performance, which has been pretty solid during my whole gameplay (at least playing the PS5 Favour Performance graphic mode, which was my choice to enjoy the game). However, the fact that the game was originally developed for the PS4 is evidenced in some hidden in-game loading screens (in form of corridors, fissures and other spaces).
Regarding the length of the game, it can take from 20 to 25 hours to beat in the normal (Give me balance) difficulty, which is a really satisfactory duration. Furthermore, God of War: Ragnarok contains some of the best side missions ever designed, many of them focusing on the story of the secondary characters.

I can't help but tip my hat to the entire Santa Monica team. The deeper you delve into the game, the more you'll be drawn into the stunning story of a father and son against the backdrop of perhaps history's most horrific war. Throw in some casually endearing humour, great and fluid gameplay, and wrap it all up with an amazing audiovisual experience. [Issue#323]

Thanks to an amazing cast that’s doing an outstanding job, a compelling story told through the eyes of multiple characters, and top-notch combat, this epic and heartfelt journey strikes all the right chord. It’s impossible not to recommend God of War Ragnarok, but just in case you had any doubts, I strongly advise anyone mildly interested in gaming to play Santa Monica Studio’s latest masterpiece.

It’s a satisfying conclusion to the modern God of War saga, but it’s hard to walk away and not feel like this could have been something greater.
