The game is incredible, fighting is dynamic and challenging at times. Story is well told lacks diversity in story telling, but filled with emotions. Tho with all the bugs, colliders fail, periodic fps drops and a bit of naivity in scripting, instead of brutal unprecedented anger and rage expected from the title I downgraded it from 10 to 9

Incredible game, great storytelling on every level, and well designed. 9 rather than 10 for me on minor gripes; felt like I was going through the motions in combat a bit towards the end, and the facial models and animation don't look as good as say, The Last of Us. But, this is still an incredible game with surprises at each turn.

Every emotion was experienced playing this game, the story, the narrative, the characters full of life and the accompanying musical score made me feel like I was back in high school watching LOTR for the first time again.

Ragnaroks gameplay is built off what made it successful in the 2018 adaptation and have expanded meaningful and interesting content to fill the beautiful world they created. I haven't had so much fun doing side missions in a long time, as the game cultivates each of these experiences with additional lore and story. The dialogue between each character and the history about them are further expanded on as you decide to go off the beaten path and explore the rest of the realms.

The combat has been tuned even further providing much more meaningful encounters. However, as perfect as the game has been there were still some annoying timing issues I found dodging certain attacks that felt completely random at times. This is especially prominent in harder difficult fights similar to the Valkrie bosses from 2018. It certainly added frustration but not enough to deter me from this great game.

I could write the 5k character limit on this review but their is no need. This game is a MUST PLAY on any platform, hopefully it will release on PC so PC players can experience this modern day marvel of a game.

The narrative and story telling in this game is phenomenal. Just like the first game, it really feels like you're almost playing a movie. They break up the game much better than the first with much more obvious side quest areas. The side quests themselves are worth doing just for the narrative elements alone. They are truly amazing and fulfilling pieces of content that are just as good as the main storyline. They also are almost a necessity if you are playing on the harder difficulties.

The armor, weapon, and skill tree systems have all been expanded from the first game. There's a lot of terrific rpg elements to be found here with lots of ways to customize your builds.

Unfortunately the combat still has some pretty massive issues, especially on the harder difficulties. It can be somewhat hard to explain because it really just comes down to the combat not "feeling quite right."

Hit indicators are absolutely terrible. Attacks coming from 180 degrees in front of the player have no hit indicators at all. There's way too much going on the screen for a player to be able to see a fireball coming from a 90 degree angle. The VAST majority of my deaths are from due to offscreen, barely visible attacks. It also seems that even the hit indicators from behind don't always work. If your camera is slightly tiled downward, if an enemy is in the camera view, the hit indicator won't show.

Almost every enemy has some form of super armor during certain attacks. You will often be hit in the face as you're absolutely wrecking an enemy. This can even occur during some runic attacks. This is one of the worst aspects of GOW combat. There should be very few and very specific enemies that have super armor. When you're fighting a group of 10 enemies, the last thing you want is for a random grunt to disrupt the combat chain because they decided to launch one of their random attacks that gives them super armor. This is probably much less of an issue on the easier difficulties, but if you're playing on the hardest difficulty, one hit from a grunt his likely at least half your health. The combat often doesn't feel like it "flows" well as a result.

Which also leaves me to my next point, which is that gear upgrades on the hardest difficulties almost have no purpose. Every enemy will two shot you. This is the laziest form of difficulty scaling. Difficulty should come with better AI, more attack patterns, and smarter encounters... not just scaling the damage up 300%.

I know that some people will say "just turn down the difficulty," and they might be right to some degree. Turning down the difficulty will probably result in the combat flowing better, but I don't think that's the actual issue at heart. Kratos should feel powerful, and he just doesn't when a random grunt ignores your attacks.

Despites GoW shortcomings and frustration in combat, they are mostly overshadowed by its many incredible moments and overall story telling.

God of War: Ragnarok manages to maintain the quality of the previous game. While the story is not as strong as the last game, it is still intriguing. The gameplay is not as innovative, but that is fine, since the last game had perfect gameplay as is. So, while this seems like a minor upgrade, the previous game was so good that I didn’t mind playing more of it.

It doesn't wow us as much like before but instead fixes a few things that were inconsistant with the reboot, such as giving us better enemy variety and better boss fights. I also found the story to be more interesting as well. Being able to play as Atreus, albeit only sporatically throughout the story, is another request of mine fulfilled this time around. Ragnarok may not be a groundbreaking sequel, but it is a more fully realized one, in the same sense that God of War II (2007) was to the very original. Expand

A worthy successor to the 2018 masterpiece. Some questionable design and voice casting for new main players to the show make this entry lag behind its predecessor but it makes up for any (sadly annoying) flaws here with almost perfection everywhere else, and fun new gameplay options not offered by the previous entry.

    A must play!

    Cons:
    - I don't really like the new magic arrow puzzles
    - Sometimes the game is quite linear, which is a bit frustrating
    - You can play with Atreus in certain parts, but combat with him was not as satisfying as with Kratos

Players of the first game and everyone else will still be very satisfied with Kratos's last adventure in the Norse universe, however I support the developers decision to end here. Topping such masterpieces are extremely hard.

There’s a good mix of adventure, story, and action. There’s definitely more talking in this game- but that makes the story even better. The game does seem bigger overall than the 2018 game. It was good playing both as Kratos and Atreas, and the other side characters were also great. I didn’t find it particularly hard- but did die a few times. I found the Heimdall boss fight more difficult than the final fight with Oden. Overall the ending was fulfilling and will lead to wherever/whenever GOW goes next. I’d definitely play it again and would give it a 9/10. Expand

The amount of work there has been put into the dialogue, realms (the different maps), RPG-elements, and even the tiny details is beyond my imagination, and it all pays off in the end.

I spent about 43 hours on the game before I finished the story, as the side quests/tasks flowed very nicely with the rest of the game. It is rewarding to complete the quests and get the gear as well as see how the world changes as it is affected by the quest.

It is easier to name the cons rather than the remaining pros:
Some minor parts of the story could feel a bit dragged out.
Some of the side bosses could feel somewhat uninspired.
    Minor bugs.
Enviornment is pretty but not interactive (the destructive effects were very limited)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I love this game and its predecessor (to which I gave a perfect score)! This game's qualities have been justly praised to high heaven and all the kudos are richly deserved. I'll be brief in my single point of criticism, they messed up the character of Kratos halfway through the game.

Kratos bending to his son's perspective is just plain wrong and goes against the essence (even if mollified by his late wife and his kid). Kratos was educating his son Atreus (Loki), preparing him for the harsh world and the writer pulled some Disney BS and made the parent bend to the kids will and go soft. Kratos is not soft. The limit of his tolerance would be not killing Freya, after she lost her son and went crazy). They did not ruin Kratos, I stil love this game and the character, but this blemish deducts a point from Ragnarok, making it almost perfect and not perfect like its predecessor.

To fix the story would be simple: Atreus realizes in the final quarter of the game that the evil the Asgardians have been doing and Odin, as their leader, make them irredeemable. Enslaving, torturing and genocide deserve an strong answer and he finally understands why his father is a harsh man. Atreus, now made mature by the tragedies he witnessed and suffered, grows up and sees the world through his father's eyes (which happens to all of us when we finally grow up).

I hope they don't keep pushing the "soft" Kratos on the next saga. God of War is one of the greatest franchises of all time.

Feels familiar and yet still fresh and exciting without messing too much with things that already worked well in the first game. Some part of the story can be a little bit dragging like Atreus' side quests with her friend but most of them are pretty well paced. Puzzles and exploration are very good and still feels rewarding and satisfying to do. Overall one of the best Playstation games out there. Expand

Really good game, with a few woke moments here and there but most of it is worth playing. Awesome gameplay, astonishing graphics and a really good story, I'm really glad we are finally able to see Kratos under a different light. It was a really good game.

God of War Ragnarök is a really great game, but I do think, that God of War 2018 was an overall better game.

The level design isn't as good as the last game, sometimes the pacing is off, some plot points unfold in an unsatisfying way and the ending seems rushed and lacks the epic and brutal fights, which we know this series for. I honestly think, that they should have made a trilogy

I honestly think, that they should have made a trilogy for the north mythology. There are a lot of famous north gods and creatures we never see and Ragnarök itself seemed very uneventful. The game is great, but it could have been a lot better.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So this game is AMAZING.... when you get to play as Kratos! It was hard to put a number on this one since you have to put aside the very high expectations along with some of the more disappointing choices made for this game. I do think the 2018, God of War was better, but its a bit unfair to compare as this one is a sequel and obviously borrows heavily from its predecessor rather than being completely created from the ground up like the previous game.

So starting of with the problems with this game so I can get my gripes out of the way. The reason I said the game is amazing when you play as Kratos is because you don't get to the entire time. The game forces you to play as Atreus in long portions. This would be fine if it wasn't the fact that he plays like a side character and these were by far the weakest parts of the game. Whoever in the writing room said hey our players love playing as this jacked out god of destruction lets force them to play as a child for a quarter of the game is a moron. I have the bad feeling they are pushing this series to drop Kratos and I have to say thats going to be a bad idea. Also the story is another part I would have to say has some issues. The story does have some awesome moments and overall is good, but there are plenty of sections where the story meanders or gets off track. Also there was a lot of controversy this game would suffer from a lot of the issues with "modern writing". I am happy to say for the most part this isn't the case, but it does feel like God of War has been "sanitized" for a lack of a better word. It does seem like the sexuality and violence has been toned down compared to the original trilogy of games. It may sound weird talking about an overly violent game anyways, but it does feel like this has been toned down to appease a certain audience. Lastly I would say there are a few tooo many puzzle in this game. I don't mind them and they can be a nice change of pace, but they could be cut down by about 40%. I'm playing this game for the action and cool combat encounters and most of the puzzles are so basic they just feel like they are adding time to the game for no reason.

So now what this game does right. The combat is smooth and fun and its nice this time you have a couple more weapons to work with that are both fun and have their own fun unique abilities. Obviously this game looks amazing I usually think of graphics as secondary, but this game was so pretty I can't lie. The story is good overall despite some odd choices at times and the vast majority of characters feel real with great personalities and attributes you feel for and get attached to.

Anyways that's my take on GOW: Ragnarok. A great games, but some odd choices hold this game back from being a 10/10. Hopefully the series continues Kratos's story and they continue this series in the right direction.

Very solid gamplay and interesting story.
Previous game was a touch more interesting story wise but I think that's mostly cause it was still fresh and new while this one is building upon previous systems already in place. The new spear is a nice touch. Though I still prefer the axe and blades. Always happy to see a game finished on launch for once. I don't think I saw a singular bug the entire game

When you could combine perfect combating design with good storytelling, this is what you can get. Such a enjoyable game to play through. I think the story here gives most of the characters more depth and complete arcs. If you have already liked them before, this game will make you like them even more.

For me it was the best written game this year, the story takes a bigger scale on Scandinavic mythology comparing with the 2018s game. Also characters from previous game appears and has their own character arc, my favorite among them was Freyas arc.She transformed from a broken woman who seeked only revenge to a strong warrior who learned how to forgive and become better than she was before. Also ive gotta admit that i liked Atreus more than he was in the fourth game, his humor and relations with other character are awesome especially with Kratos, Sindri and Angraboda. The new characters on the other hand are also awfuly interesting - Thor,Odin,Thrud,Freyr,Tyr,Heimdall -these characters also has their character arc and some of them are even better than some character from previous game. For me the most memorable and amazing character was Thor, his arc and the tragedy of his family was so realistic and so close to me that i really understood Thor and for me even at the middle of the game he wasn’t a bad guy, and his fate for me seemed like throwing a good character into garbage. And of course the the best duo in the game for me is Kratos and Mimir, they are the best characters in the hame for me, and i would be pleased if Christopher Judge would receive a Best Performance award and the Game Awards, after seeing almost everything in this game i could say that he deserves it more than anyone among the nominees.
The gameplay core is kinda the same as we saw in 2018 game, and for me it wasn’t a problem, because developers merely advanced an already perfect gameplay, and the fights in this game and the difficulty "Give me the challenge" feels really good, except some fights with Berserkers ( the ones with a 3 in 1 fight, and 2 in 1 fight - these are horrible unfair stupid **** fights ), ive gotta admit that direction in the bossfights with Thor ( both fights ), Garm, Odin and Heimdall is fascinating and i could say the these are the most beautifully paced fights for a long time in industry. Also the direction of the cutscenes is taking new heights comparing with the firts game, the cutscenes is literally a pure art and a admire hard-work of the developers from Santa Monica Studios.
The world of the game also became bigger and there some new activities and new worlds to explore - Vanaheim is the most beautiful among all the worlds and it was a pure pleasure to explore, the same thing i can say about Svartalheim, Alfheim and Midgard. Also the Muspelheim trials became more interesting and fun comparing with previous game, even Thor admits it…
In the end i have to take credit of magnificent soundtrack written by Bear McCreary, one the best soundtracks that i’ve ever listened to for a long while, he’s soundtrack is so good that even after completing the game and then again listening to the tracks from huge dramatic moments it bringing me to tears just from a track.
Also after completing this game and obtaining a platinum i could say that it was an amazing and memorable journey that i will remember for a log while, and if this game would get a GOTY this year i wouldn’t be disappointed ( cant say that about the fact if Elden Ring would win, i hope it wouldn’t happen ).But i’m still rooting for Srtay :3
    Loki will go, Atreus remains…

It's arguably one of the best linear story games ever made. Still, Ragnarök is by definition no better than its predecessor from 2018. The story feels less compact, intimate and focused due to the many perspectives. The gameplay isn’t varied despite the small tweaks and because of this the gameplay loop sooner or later gets a little in the way of excitement. You can clearly see when you are in an 'arena' to, again, overcome the next button smash encounter. Nevertheless, it remains special that it is precisely in this game that human emotions are portrayed so well. Every character feels incredibly human, it almost looks like a movie adaptation of a mythological script. Even kratos will face and show his emotions.

It is clear that Santa Monica has created unforgettable boss battles, characters and conversations. Although the story felt too divided, which resulted in loss of interest in some segments of the story, it still feels I missed much within it because there is so much to take in. It makes sense to play the story again or explore all the side activities in the world to understand this adventure even more. One thing is certain; God of War Ragnarök fires a lot of epic moments at you in the 20 hour journey through the 9 realms.

    Pros:
    - Characters (Odin in particular)
    - Voice acting
    - Bombastic experience
    - Story details
    - Art design
    - Sound design/Sound track

    Cons:
    - Less focussed story than it’s predecessor.
    - Design of the menu’s. It is to difficult to understand all the possibilities for the casual gamer/ non GOW fan

God of War Ragnarok is a great game that improves upon its predecessor in every way. The characters are likeable and it focuses even more on the father and son relationship between Kratos and Atreus. The story overall is well-made. The gameplay is similar to the first game but with a lot of improvements. God of War´s gameplay has never been so fun. One thing i didn´t like however is the ending. It is far to open for the ending of the Norse Saga. The graphics are just what you would expect from a Sony exclusive title.

The game was beautiful, Graphics are top notch as expected, As far as the story goes since I haven't played the first one I can't compare but Ragnarok's story so far in my PT let's say I'm still waiting to get a bit more interesting. The world is beautiful I like how you can travel from one realm to another and be able to clear these realms with a different environment which is aesthetically beautiful. Enemies such as mobs most of the time you will fight them in groups which is more challenging this is where you'll have to be at your best by learning combos that you activated through gaining skills and the Combat is nothing short of amazing and it is fair to say that the combat is my favorite gameplay of the game.

Boss fights are designed well, most of them so far aside from those Draugrs which you have to fight in groups well technically it ain't a problem for me but I can already tell that there are some players losing their patience with this type of boss.

GOWR is an easy 10 but I experience a game-breaking bug and lost around 3-4 hours of gameplay I played the game while downloading patch 2.0 and yes I never care that the download was finished and kept playing the game without it installing until I took a break and once I updated it every time a load a save Kratos was stuck in a falling loop hole unable to continue the game so I need to re-start my game.

That being said though, I do have a gripe with the game and that's the map design. During the story they are great, but since I'm also a trophy hunter I finished the story first and went back for the collectibles later ad some of the maps, especially parts of Alfheim and most of Vanaheim are a nighmare to traverse without a pointer. Might be just me, but that was the big annoyance factor for me, the rest was great and if you're looking for a game to spend somewhere between let's say 15 and 50 hours, depending on how much you want to do, this is a basically a no brainer.
It's strongly recommanded to finish God of War (2018) first, but it's probably possible to just enjoy this game on its own if you so choose. Why you'd do something if the "first" game is right there and great too, I don't know, but I gues it's possible.

Buut... Although I know I'll be in the minority here... I can't help this feeling after getting to the credits and feeling deep disappointment. The world design throughout the majority of the game felt like I was playing on a set with set dressing, I didn't feel like I was in a living and breathing world. I felt... like I was on a set. There were many incredible moments, jaw dropping sections in the game. But do you remember the third game and how just utterly epic that was from start to finish? I mean, it didn't let up the entire way through. Where were all the god fights? Yes, I know there were much more than the 2018 one, but if this was truly the ending to the Norse Sequence like the developers said... Where were they all? Where were all the norse gods? I know, I know! Trust me, I'm giving the game a darned 9 for crying out loud. I loved it! Okay. But still, they were too scared to make any big choices and just... the ending! Oh my gosh, I think I may have just deeply disliked it. I went in depth with spoilers and explanations in my other review on the other platforms but won't here because there isn't enough space.
I don't know. I can feel a great love for this game, while at the same time be feeling a deep disappointment for what I had hoped would happen in the story.
This game is very comfortably sitting in 4th place on my personal game of the year list. When I think back on God of War Ragnarök, I will think. Holy cow that game was so freakin awesome... I'll take a pause, then say, "Wasn't it? It was right?" No doubt the person I'm saying it to will say, "Heck yea it was!" Because it is awesome. But at the same time I will always wonder if it actually really was as awesome as everyone says it is. I'm giving it a gosh darned 9 so I clearly think it is... but there's this Kratos shaped hole in my heart and I can't help but know, that I won't know, if I thought it was as awesome as everyone else. In fact, no, that isn't true. I know that, although I love the heck out of this game, I don't love it as much as everyone else. It could've and should've been better. Although at the same time I'm giving it a nine and freaking love the game too. Why am I in such a weird spot with it?This is what I'll say about it... It was a very good game and I really liked, ney! loved it a lot. But I will add no excited inflections nor will I be adding any exclamation points (besides after the one I added after the word 'ney') You can hate me all you want and I know many of you will. I am saying I love this game, I just personally had hoped for a bit of a different story. Again, I can't recommend this game more. Go out and buy it and sing your love from Olympus or your basement, or wherever. Just know that I don't love it as much as you do.

Locations and the view they offered are breathtaking.
Characters are deep and especially side characters tend to be much more important and interesting.
The negatives are there for me also though.
The pacing of the game feels kinda off to me at times.
Some characters felt much different from what the previous game told us they would be. Like Thor isn't the mental drunk guy who is unstable and a merciless killer. He is seen in the game more like a confused tricked by Odin guy not that unstable and not that unlikeable. Some scenario choices didn't work for me and i would like them to be different.
The game lacks a bit of the epicness i expected when i bought. They humanise the gods maybe way too much and i also missed a great massive final battle.

As for the story, the reminder of the first game's story at the begining was great so I wasn't much left out on this side, though I would have appreciate a little bit more details. In general, the storytelling was great and the cut scenes very well done. The way they made the scenes and the characters, I really felt the emotions expressed by all the characters and this is pretty rare in video games (for me).

For the rest, some might say the gameplay and the missions were a bit repetitive but I really haven't felt that way because it was fun anyway. All in all, I won't enter into the spoiler side but I really recommend this game. I don't think it's a 94, but between 8.5 and 9 is a fair score.

To me, this game is a solid 8.5/10 Ragnarok is a great game in many ways. Firstly the combat is the focal point of this game. Combat and abilities are much smoother in GOW RR compared to the 2018 counterpart endless hours of enjoyable combat/fighting are to be had battling through the great variety of enemies both regular and mini boss/bosses. The next and arguably the best part of Ragnarok is its story. Overall the story is very good, In some moments you're laughing along with the characters, and the very next moment you could be ready to tear up. The characters are top notch and some really grow on you. (character development is great in this game) After that, another great aspect of Ragnarok, or RR for short is its side missions/side content. If I'm being honest for a story-driven game there aren't many games I can think of with more meaningful side content aside from the witcher 3. While this game is pretty dang good all in all it is by no means perfect and I'll be discussing those shortcomings next. I know I said the story is great and it is, however the same can't be said for the pacing of the story. There are a few events that pull you out of the game (if you played you know what I'm talking about.) These moments don't ruin the game in any way, but they can be boring at times when they take longer than needed.
The puzzles are back and in full effect. I really don't mind puzzles and I do find them enjoyable at times. However, there are MANY more puzzles in RR compared to GOW 2018 which is not really what I'm wanting in a game such as this. This next issue gets fixed as the game goes on, but the issue is Kratos doesn't feel as powerful as he should against normal enemies. I know I was asking the game to be more challenging when playing on give me no mercy difficulty however Kratos the god of war should feel much more powerful facing little dinky enemies than he does. Idk if it's just the difficulty or the game in general. This issue does get better as you level up and unlock new abilities/gear though so it's nothing major just frustrating at times.
That is all for the negatives not many like I said a very solid game all in all.
Overall this game is very good and if you want a game you can sink a lot of hours into and have fun destroying enemies with satisfying combat and great story components with many hours of enjoyable side content this game is for you! (Don't be sorry be better!)

Amazing graphics. amazing gameplay. amazing characters. This game is the whole package. The story rivals that of any other AAA game. The combat is a standout from any game. the depth of the combat and the feeling of every hit is outstanding. The game has a few pacing issues but by this point i want to be with the characters for as long as i can.

Ragnarok maintains the high level of quality of its precessor. As I believe God of War was the GOTY for 2018, this is a very good thing. The standout here is graphics including the art direction. The standout here is graphics including the art direction. This is a truly next-gen game, and the alien worlds come to life in great detail. On the gameplay side, the scores down the board are excellent. The combat is fast-paced, challenging, and rewarding. The sense of discovery as you explore each of the worlds is fantastic. The storyline is epic, and the characters are interesting, especially Thor and Odin. It took me 72 hours on Give Me God of War difficulty to do everything, so it's also reasonably lengthy.

There are two reasons Ragnarok isn't 10/10. First, it's a retread of old ground that seems familiar. The gameplay is superb, but it's all something we've seen before.

The second reason I can't give it the highest score is that GoW:Ragnarok has contracted a severe case of JRPG-itis for a lack of a better term. The game has way too many drawn-out cutscenes that are supposed to be moving, but end up being melodramatic in the extreme and very wordy, breaching the etiquette of showing and not telling. I'm not against wordy, but I am when it's mostly just to convey mawkish sentiment and after-school special preaching. There's an entire chapter where Atreus has a pseudo-romantic adventure which was cringy. The nuanced storytelling and beautifully realized subtle relationship between Kratos' stoicism and Atreus' idealism of the first game has been replaced with cheap moralizing and tedious hand-wringing and "I love you" monologs. Characters can't stop stop blubbering, and everyone has some secret tragedy that they just have to blurt out like a Lifetime movie in a moment of vulnerability. This is manipulative hack-writing 101, and the shift in tone is inappropriate for a God of War game.

Phenomenal game. I gave GOW 2018 a 10/10 but I feel like it'd be dishonest to give this a perfect score despite being on par in terms of overall quality. Gameplay-wise this plays a lot like a GOW 2018 DLC, and it's blatantly obvious that their not focusing solely on PS5 held the game back massively. There is a masterpiece here, and it being hindered by decade-old hardware is a real shame.

As for the story, wooo-heee can I not talk specifics. I'll just say that few games have writing this good, this impactful. The creators really did their homework on Norse mythology and it shows that they wanted to make a game that FEELS worthy of being set in that mythos.

It was everything I hoped it would be and more.

God of war Ragnarok is a superb game. Although I must say the first was a bit better. I didn't understand why they made some story decisions like pokeball giant stuff, Surtur and Sinmara, and Odin's mask that was useless in the end. The story in the first game was so perfectly crafted, the story in the second was just a good story but was hard to exceed the first. Enemy variety even if it was increased compared to the first didn't really feel a lot better you know, I hoped at least to make the enemies specific in some areas but after they would introduce a new native enemy in a realm they would just casually add it later in another realm. The acting and OST are so well done holy hell, really an amazing performance from the cast. Great game, for me this was the Game of the Year of 2022.

As a console gamer, I've played all the entries in this long-standing series. God of War is one of the last console exclusives to envy. The Norse saga maintains David Jaffe's brutal smash & grab gameplay whilst staging a genre-defining cinematic experience. Ragnarok is a fine blend of controller combat and storytelling and shouldn't be passed over by any video gamer.

The light RPG elements and fine-tuned combat take cues from various evolutions in the industry. Dark Souls and its finesse come into play and add depth to a feverish hack and slash formula. But God of War doesn't obscure accessibility like From Software games. Santa Monica designed a game that everyone can enjoy. The player isn't punished for arbitrary missteps and the difficulty can be changed to incite a challenge for players looking for one.

Motion capture brings an extensive range of emotions to Kratos. A bellowing voice and harrowing actions come to life when the player senses a degree of personality. I witnessed a great depth of character from Kratos through a well-placed grunt of facial expression. This kind of body language enabled by modern motion capture technology adds depth to a formerly one-dimensional anti-hero.

The attention to detail is arresting. Dialogue, gameplay, cutscenes, etc; all form an incredible journey. Nothing's amiss in this adventure and I highly recommend it along with all the other God of War entries. As you progress, you'll see the progression of combat and storytelling, and fully realize how intact the original God of War is in these modern titles. Which in itself is a testament to game design in early titles.

I give this game a 9/10, because nothing is perfect. But this is damn close. It seamlessly tailors everything engrossing about a video game and distills it into a story.

I mean, Gow 2018 felt just better about it. They could've made them less and let us focus on main story. In every 1-2 hours Mimir says "Okay brother, let's take some time off.". It felt weird. But the gameplay was so good that it didn't really bothered me.

I can't help but tip my hat to the entire Santa Monica team. The deeper you delve into the game, the more you'll be drawn into the stunning story of a father and son against the backdrop of perhaps history's most horrific war. Throw in some casually endearing humour, great and fluid gameplay, and wrap it all up with an amazing audiovisual experience. [Issue#323]
