    Lots of lights, flashes and trying to be "Edgy" with the story... nothing else
    Really slooooooow, lots of cinematics. if you want to make a movie then make a movie not a 80% cinematics game.

    It's a 5/10 at best, not the 10/10 all the review sites are throwing out.

    I won't repeat all the other others have said, but post demo.. This game is boring af! It's literally point A to point B, every single aspect is dull as hell!

    The tempo of the game is horrible. The side quests are a shame. The arc of some characters (especially female: Benedikta, Jill and Anabella) is incredibly bad (I don't want to make spoilers... but they don't matter at all in the story).

    There are a lot of people who unfairly reviewing this game. Anyone that reviews it as a 0 is basically saying that this game is on the same level as The lord of the rings Gollum, just think about that. The cinematic and soundtrack should automatically give this game at least a 6/10.

    The good: The cinematic's are absolute fire, they are so good i get chills every time an epic fight    There are a lot of people who unfairly reviewing this game. The cinematic and soundtrack should automatically give this game at least a 6/10.

    The good:

    The cinematic's are absolute fire, they are so good i get chills every time an epic fight breaks out.

    The soundtrack is a godsend best in the franchise by far, maybe in all of gamine. Though that is a bold statement.

    The combat is very fluid and smooth and does a very good job pacing itself, it's not too over the top, but it's not sluggish either.

    The story has grabbed me by the ba*ls and has not let go.

    The world map, i like that it isnt open world, there are too many games like that so it's a breath of fresh air and its great.

    The flaws:

    The frame rate can dip to about 40 fps during exploration which i personally don't mind, but you do notice it.

    The difficulty is too easy, i have only died once so far and that was only because i wasn't paying attention to my health.

    The skills you can acquire are too simplified, don't get me wrong i dont want a giant skill tree with hundreds of skills, but i would of liked something like ff10 or ff12 where you can buy like +50 health and things like that, but for each eikon, like each eikon has their own set of stats. So equipping Titan has immense defense and counter ability's, but has problems dishing out power but has like +500 extra health.

    The exploration is a bit weak, not much to loot, but maybe there will be later. Most things you loot are potions, but i always find myself with max potions anyway.

    No game is perfect and that goes for this game to, i haven't beaten the game yet probably 10 hours in, just unlocked ifrit, and that battle was honestly the first difficulty spike. But even so i'm still giving this game a 9/10, because the things it does well, it does very well.

    P.S: don't read the reviews that are 0, their trolls, people who put 5/10 or 6/10 are fine, because this game was never going to make every single soul happy, and those reviews are actually honest and give valid points unlike the trolls.    … Expand

    This game is amazing! Absolutely love the way the story is told and the politics. It is very cool. I've loved all of the main characters, Clive at the top and Cid is fantastic. The combat feels very fluid, and yeah it does remind me of devil May cry in all the best ways. And the music. Oh god the music, this guy knows how to do it.     Best Final Fantasy since Final X, and probably one of the best ever. Strong Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings vibes, that’s PERFECT! The bad reviews are surely trolls or PS haters cause this game is a masterpiece. The visuals, the story, the characters, the music, the gameplay… top notch. This game is a reason to have a PS5.

    Addicting and fun, one of the best rpgs I've played in years.
    Combat is brilliant, visuals are outstanding, soundtrack is good. the story is very interesting and overall decent - although it does have some pacing issues later on. the characters are also very interesting.

    FFXVI is a great action rpg.
    The story is up there with some of the best stories in the FF series

    Perfection. Good story, good music, good combat- truly a rollercoaster ride. It's gorgeous, too. Glad they did away with the RPG BS and went all on in action, and I hope the series continues on this trajectory.

    The star of the show is the new battle system. The boss fights are among the best for the series. The voice acting is superb. I feared the Eikon fights would be a gimmick, but far from it, they are part of what makes this game special. A DMC combat system doesn't mean automatically a good game, there's too much time between unlocking a new power and only 6 skills can be equipped at the same time. No hard mode so it's piss easy from start to finish, the parry is binding on the attack button and the dodge window is so huge there's no reward for the player.

    While I was ok with no playable party members, I didn't knew the'll be absent for the story either. It's just Clive story and my biggest disappointment is Jill.

    The game try too hard to be too serious, no mini-games and such but side quests are the worst I've seen in ages. It's fetch quests.

    My next point is the rythm of the game, it's terrible. You have these hype moments and after that is several hours of boring stuff, there's also nothing to explore or discover. If you want to do an action just go all-in on the action.

    The game really feel dated outside of combat and cinematic too. I expected way better for a mainline entry, it's crazy to me Stranger of Paradise is a better action game AND a better RPG.    … Expand

    Great game. Miles ahead of the last main line final fantasy game. Apart from the bit boring side quest the scenery, battles , cutscenes, story, soundtrack, how the story is not afraid to go dark, worth every penny!!

Doing epic juggle combos with Torgal and swapping through 3 weapon types feels great. - The boss battles both normal and Kaiju feel epic and have great pacing. I have never seen such an aggressive way of killing a ninja but it sure as hell felt cool to see and portrayed a different way of ending a fight on a boss than ever before.
    - Music is perfection and properly catches the tonal vibes every single time.

    Genuine cons, but not enough to bring down the score
    Lack of post-story content. It's certainly a finished product with NG+ potentially being the extra content to do. Post game boils down to simiulated score attack and Hunts if not completed.    … Expand

    The game is great. A good return to form for Final Fantasy. You can argue that the story is a bit bland, but that's what classic FF did, and it's not bland, but predictable at points, wich is not inherently bad.

    The gameplay, music and graphics are amazing, so it's a great entry pointing on the right direction.

It is dark and sad and sometimes really funny. It makes you care about the world you're playing in. The story is clearly the focus and it shows. Stunning visually and gameplay I personally love the combat. Love the weaving between the Eikon elements, it can be a little unresponsive at times but nothing that impedes your enjoyment of the game. This part might be the most contentious between the player base for sure. But overall this game is a spectacle. It's a ride from start to finish! Totally final fantasy.… Expand

    The only thing against is so far (about 10 hours in) is that it isn't really open world or an RPG. More DMC than FF. But get last that and it's an excellent game.

Los giros argumentales están muy bien hilados, los diálogos son interesantes y los NPC siempre tienen algo que contarnos, gráficamente es precioso, los mapas tienen unos detalles sin precedentes, los efectos están muy bien logrados y la iluminación...eso requeriría mas de 10000Jugadas mas de 20 hrs al juego desde el lanzamiento, me he encontrado con un titulo maduro, divertido y épico. Los giros argumentales están muy bien hilados, los diálogos son interesantes y los NPC siempre tienen algo que contarnos, gráficamente es precioso, los mapas tienen unos detalles sin precedentes, los efectos están muy bien logrados y la iluminación...eso requeriría mas de 10000 caracteres para describir lo bien que acompaña al juego. Los personajes están escritos con mucho peso y personalidad.

    - It's too easy even on hard mode. So much so that I could call it a joke even for a casual gamer
    - There is no party, only Torgal the dog who can do 2 commands and that's it
    - There is no World Map, but only a map menu where you can select the mission...
    -The final Boss is an insult compared to all previous Bosses in the game.
    -Side quests are awful. Deliver flowers, escort items, collect item, etc...
    -The "hunts" are not well built and indeed are tedious
    -The inconsiderate and bad use of the Quick Time Events
    -Story has poor pacing, many inconsistencies and dropped plot points
    -Characters are dull and some have incomplete arcs
    -The action combat has no dept and every enemy can be countered in the sale way, no strategy is required
    -Exploration Is either non-existent or pointless since the rewards are poor
    -Side quests are boring and often a waste of time
    -The sex and nudity on screen feels extremely cheap and a poor way to copy from the main source of inspiration for this game.    … Expand

    There's more time watching cutscenes than actual getting to play the game. And the cutscenes can't be skipped. This is the first final fantasy I have bought and I will not buy any more.

    FF16 will certainly not meet the expectations of all long-time FF fans because FF16 is completely different from what FF used to be. For newcomers, who are not too familiar with the FF series, this game will surely be just some interesting new action game for them to play.

    What is seen in FF16 is a major departure from FF roots as previous FF games were turn-based/command-based RPGs    FF16 will certainly not meet the expectations of all long-time FF fans because FF16 is completely different from what FF used to be. For newcomers, who are not too familiar with the FF series, this game will surely be just some interesting new action game for them to play.

    What is seen in FF16 is a major departure from FF roots as previous FF games were turn-based/command-based RPGs (FF1-10, 12, 13). FF15 was the first to start in this direction, but FF16 completely abandoned the FF roots & became, as the developers say: "the first official action game in the main FF series."

    The first thing everyone will notice is that FF16 has a very similar battle system to Devil May Cry, but that's because Ryota Suzuki is the battle designer who was responsible for creating the battle system in DMC5. This is why FF16 looks & feels like you're playing a hack & slash game. The battle system has a very simple strategy which is to dodge & attack, when the enemy becomes "stagger" it becomes very vulnerable in a short time & then you need to smash the buttons to deal as much damage as possible to the enemy. Some enemies have a lot of HP & the battle can last quite a long time. There are also no classic party members, you can only control Clive & give orders to Torgal, who in most cases act automatically, while all the others who temporarily join the battle are completely controlled by the AI.

    Other aspects of the gameplay are nothing special. FF16 does not have the mini-games that previous FF games had. There are a lot of side quests, but they are not particularly interesting because they are very similar to those from MMORPGs like FF14 in that you mostly go from point A to point B, sometimes to point C & back to point A or B, but sometimes maybe to point D. The Hunt system is identical to that of FF12. FF16 has very poor RPG elements, which makes it feel more like an action (hack & slash) game than an RPG.

    The story is very well written & interesting, there are some confusing parts, but as the developers said: "Active Time Lore gives the player all the necessary information if there are any doubts about the story." The characters are also very interesting. After finishing the game, I got the impression that the story of FF16 is like a reimagined story of FF13. Clives is like l'Cie, Dominants are like fal'Cie & the main antagonist is like Bhunivelza. All those who have played the entire FF13 series (FF13, 13-2 & Lightning Returns) will surely notice the similarities, especially when they see the ending which is very similar to the one from Lightning Returns. The only major difference between the two stories is that FF16 is a medieval fantasy about a single hero, & FF13 is a sci-fi fantasy about a group of heroes. Also, the difference is that FF16 has better storytelling than FF13.

    Other aspects of FF16 such as graphics, design & music are excellent so there is nothing special to add here.

    So the conclusion is that FF16 is a good game but it has some flaws. I personally don't find the battle system that appealing because I'm used to the main FF series being an evolution of the turn-based/command-based battle system. The story & characters are great, the flaw is that it is focused on one hero, while all the other characters are just NPCs. Previous FF games have always been about a group of heroes (warriors of light) that the player can control & that are not just NPCs. There are a lot of nostalgic elements in FF16 that are a reference to previous FF games. That nostalgia is most likely to attract long-time FF fans to play FF16 because newcomers won't understand those references.

    This is the closest 10 out of 10 since Bloodborne. 8 years later. Sidequests are kinda bad, reason why is not a proper 1010. Everything else is just close to perfection.

    I know some reviews have said that the side quest content is lacking, but as the fast travel system is there I    I am about 20 hours in and so far loving the story and the characters.     The 2 things I do wish were different are the enemy variety, even though the bosses are great I would have loved to see more traditional FF monsters, (Cactuars, Tonberries etc,) but overall the combat has been fun and responsive. Secondly, I do wish there was more fun mini games akin to past titles.

I preordered this game, payed 70 bucks and now I cannot refund it. Thats sony for you. This is not a JRPG. This is an action game like spiderman. I hate it!

    1 - the game is an ignorant action that can be completed by holding down the square button all the time 2 - the framerate dancer slows down the flow of gameplay and cutscenes too often even with the DayOne Patch 3 - flat and linear level design makes corridor exploration    Here's another serious case of "Game" pumped up by the critics but full of flaws.
    The 16 flaws of Final Fantasy 16:
    1 - the game is an ignorant action that can be completed by holding down the square button all the time
    2 - the framerate dancer slows down the flow of gameplay and cutscenes too often even with the DayOne Patch
    3 - flat and linear level design makes corridor exploration useless
    4 - the gameplay becomes repetitive already after the first three hours, given how the combinations of elements do not lead to different results of the battles, marking its disarming superficiality
    5 - texture pop up is ugly to see in 2023
    6 - the plot starts with rhythm and ends with boredom.
    Bringing ridiculous motivations and turning many situations into meaningless bad moments
    7 - there are no minigames
    8 - once the story is completed there is no secret content or endgame. Only the New Game +
    9 - the "dungeons" are all linear, flat and copy paste
    10 - it's too easy even on hard mode. So much so that I could call it a joke even for a casual gamer
    11 - there is no party, only Torgal the dog who can do 2 commands and that's it
    12 - there is no World Map, but only a map menu where you can select the mission...
    13 - The final Boss is an insult compared to all previous Bosses in the game.
    And it's also one of the worst when compared to the Final Bosses of previous Final Fantasy games
    14 - side quests are awful. Deliver flowers, escort items, collect item, etc...
    15 - the "hunts" are not well built and indeed are tedious and essentially useless since they are nothing but mobs that are easy to exterminate
    16 - the inconsiderate and bad use of the Quick Time Events. Because usually in games like God of War they have a more marked value to affect the game itself. But here in Final Fantasy 16 they're overdone, to the point where 99% of enemies are demolished by these Quick Time Events just to disguise a load-up between the end of a battle and the start of a cutscene    … Expand

    Enjoyable combat system; nothing groundbreaking but it is fast, refined and responsive.

    Grand in scale and scope, visually arresting at times but the art direction can also appear bland and outdated.

    Voice acting is decent.

    The not-so-good:

    Generic characters spouting their usual corny dialogue, this one really has a medieval soap opera-feel about it. Perhaps they sound better when speaking in Japanese but something tells me otherwise.

    The game in general feels somewhat bloated; progression is less dynamic than in some previous instalments, which is especially concerning considering that it’s not even open world in nature.

    An overly westernised tone; feels too reminiscent of series such as The Witcher or Game of Thrones for example. Final Fantasy at the peak of its powers was the influencer, but it appears as though the opposite is in fact now the case.

    The bad:

    Mindless and banal fetch quests, and by mindless I do mean FFVII remake levels of mundaneness.

    Far too easy, with what felt like a virtually non-existent difficulty increase as things progressed.

    Visually the game is overly dark, so dark in fact that it regularly becomes a distraction if not a detriment - especially when inside.

    This is not FFVII. Has done absolutely nothing to revolutionise the series, let alone the genre, and its legacy come the end of the 9th generation won’t be anything significant in my opinion.    … Expand

The game is Rated M, so it’s very bloody and has much darker tones than any previous FF. The combat and soundtrack are by far the best I’ve seen in FF.     I prefer replay Chrono Cross 200 times rather then make a second run with FF16
    Because Final Fantasy 16 become horribly bad from the second half of the plot

    This is game is simple amazing, it has the Square Enix and Final Fantasy DNA, a dense story and world, interesting characters, stuning graphics, it's a good game with his roots in the classical Final Fantasy style.

    It fails to deliver at many points and the main one is performance which is atrocious, it kinda feels scammy that they did implement performance mode which should be 60 fps but in fact it's 30-40 for the majority of time.

    just my goty! i know its nor perfect for anyone. Still the story, characters and voice acting are amazing. the visuals, the smooth combat are great. and just dont forget the soundtrack.... it is phenomenal. ty square for this masterpiece

    Adding that the whole game is linear (with some areas that are larger, but practically empty), and taking into account an absence of post game (since the game is literally only the Main Quest for 90%), I consider this Final Fantasy 16 another bad final fantasy game.
    No real challenges, no secrets, no minigames, and no "real" world to explore. And since I didn't like the banal revenge story I'd say it's a complete failure from my point of view.    … Expand

If you're a fan of the series for the stories and characters, you won't go wrong here, and if you've avoided the series for, say, turn-based combat, the sixteenth installment offers the perfect opportunity to get started with this legend of the gaming industry.
