    I just beat it, I couldn’t stop playing it. The last FF I really enjoyed was X with XII somewhat interesting. This game deserves to be a contender for GOTY. The story is the best in the series hands down. I could understand why people who were used to turn-base hate it but this is the very first ARPG that I enjoyed.

    Fantastic story, great combat system, and a return to medieval high fantasy. This is right up there with Final Fantasy 6 and Seven for quality. Final Fantasy is back!

    Great game! Absolutely stunning visuals, engaging storyline, likable characters, awesome gameplay! However the difficulty, or lack of it, and side quests leaves much to be desired.

    Jogo excelente com uma proposta inovadora pra franquia tornando gameplay, jogabilidde, história...muito mais interessantes. Só fica a ressalva da Square melhorar as sides quests, ainda continuam aquele viés pobre de leve e trás de itens, poucas são as que se destacam criativamente.     At first game was cool combat felt fast and responsive, story was good but then I got to tittan. Garuda was an amazing fight but titan I wouldn’t force that fight on anyone. Getting up to this point I was already getting really bored of the game wishing I could just watch it like a movie but I bought so I’ll finish it… nope titan fight was so bad and long I’m done with this game and peopleAt first game was cool combat felt fast and responsive, story was good but then I got to tittan.     Definitely the best FF game in a LONG time. It's also the best game in the past decade. It's a return to form of the absolute excellence the series was known for. Final Fantasy's triumphant return is here. It's up there with 7 and 10 as the greatest in the entire series.

    this is not GOTY this is GOTL, game of the life...not sure how other game's gonna top this one lol. I kept hearing people saying you can beat the game with one button, that's not entirely wrong; IF YOU'RE EQUIPPING THE SUPPORT RING! unequip the goddang ring then say it again! Some complaining the cutscene's too long, SKIP it and read it later, if you're to lazy to watch or read then it'sthis is not GOTY this is GOTL, game of the life...not sure how other game's gonna top this one lol.     Not an RPG, boring button mashing gameplay, do not waste $75 on a 17 hour cutscene masquerading as a DMC knock off action game with god awful voice acting. It is cringe inducing garbage. All you do is press square, walk down hallways and watch cutscenes. Even the boss fights are just cutscenes with QTE prompts to make sure your still awake.

    Fantastic game I am almost half way if I had to guess and it keeps getting better. It’s not the traditional turn based action but I love it. My only gripe is Sony thought it would be a good idea to gimp a game again by making it a timed exclusive to PS5. I had to borrow my sons PS5 to play the game as I’m a a massive FF and YoshiP fan.     Been playing 60hr and i love it.
    Story give me chills and combat are awesome.
    I like old combat system too but it's cool to have an FF with action combat too.

    Easily the best Final Fantasy game since FFX. This game is a masterpiece in storytelling, gameplay, world building, and graphics making this the most worthy time sink you can get on the ps5. You won't regret it.

    So damn good. Music. Story. Graphics. Combat. Cutscenes. Characters. All 10/10.
    What it lacks and what I miss greatly is the lack of RPG elements. I was pretty choked initially but the quality of the other parts made me forget about fishing,card collecting,open world exp grinding, in-depth weapon and armor crafting/upgrading.
    If I want an FF grind. I’ll go back to 14… which I will.

Incoherent graphics, poor narrative (it's a game that tells a story, it's the most important aspect and they throw it overboard). The gameplay is boring, repetitive and not very involving, except for a few moments. This game leaves me with the feeling that Square Enix wanted to put a sick dose of sugar in cinematics andI had a lot of faith in this game but again final fantasy disappoints. Incoherent graphics, poor narrative (it's a game that tells a story, it's the most important aspect and they throw it overboard). The gameplay is boring, repetitive and not very involving, except for a few moments.     NOT AN RPG. Cannot stress that enough this is a glorified action game they're trying to pass off as an rpg. There is no choice that matters in this game. Not in your character not in the major story.

    Absolute masterpiece. The game has some of the best boss fights to ever exist in GAMING. They are cinematic, engaging and jaw dropping. All the while, in between are some of the most gripping and dark storytelling the medium has been graced with.

    The Soundtrack is acceptable but not the best I ever heard. Elden Ring is much superior on this field too.

    Some of the best boss battles in video game history make up for any small flaws elsewhere in the game. Kingdom hearts style combat, a really cool environment, and amazing voice acting and story beats.

This game is plagued with poor framerate, and crazy excessive camera blurring which ruins the overwise lovely visuals. I don't like the new direction they're taking, I didn't enjoy FF15 much either.     It's a shame that the game can't be given commercial ratings. would prefer 8.75.
    It would be a 9 if it were technically better and a little more variety in the fights. I would have preferred a system like the one in the FF7 remake or that Jill    I'm not through yet but I have to say the game is good. but seriously, way too many cutscenes. you watch and listen more than you fight and play.

    Unfortunately, the game is also another step away from FF.
    Even then I hated that they called their FF MMO FF11. Even that had nothing to do with FF except for some elements that keep coming back. FF series is a pure single player series.
    It was a big mistake not to call it FF Online or something like that back then. Just like other FF spinoff series.
    The same with FF14. FF 15 and especially FF16 do not have the problem that it is a pure single player game, but that it is too much single player.
    The parties themselves are not important and you cannot control them. (FF15 had it patched but still not the real one)
    In short, FF should be an RPG or JRPG where you have a party and you go on adventures with that party and ultimately save the world.

    FF16 has the problem that you don't have a party and RPG elements are almost non-existent.
    Every Souls game except Sekiro has more RPG elements, which is just wrong when such a series has more RPG elements than FF.
    FF stands for the fact that JRPG became big and well-known in the west. Now you have a good game, I would say, even if it unfortunately has some bugs, which has almost nothing to do with JRPG.
    It would have done so much better for the title to be released as an FF spinoff. Just like back then with FF15.
    But then they would probably sell fewer units because the title FF16 alone attracts more customers than an FF Game of Crystal or whatever it could have been called.
    It's a shame that SE doesn't really want anything to do with JRPGs anymore. At least not with a big budget and want to develop names like FF.
    FF is the only name that would still be able to bring turn-based JRPGs to the masses.
    I would have wished that they would take up this again and revive and further develop the turn-based JRPGs, that the genre would not die out and was only developed for low budgets.
    The games these days all suffer from the fact that they are becoming more and more the same anyway.

    As already mentioned, there are some problems.
    The performance could be better. especially the 60 fps mode is not good. You should turn off the ray tracing so that the FPS is at least halfway close to 60, away from the fights.
    Especially since you don't notice anything from ray tracing.
    Gives option to have it off or on.
    Just like with motion blur.
    It's a real shame that you can't control your combat companions. Apart from the dog, which is also rather annoying in the long run.
    Why not something like in FF12, where you set the companions in advance in a menu, how they should react in fights and when and how to heal etc.
    So they do almost nothing but stand around. Particularly weak from Jill, who is Shiva, she should be able to wipe the floor with just about everyone.
    But I play it through quite clearly. As I said, it's not a bad game, but it has too little to do with FF to call it FF16, a mainstay of the series.
    German synchro is unfortunately partly not good but that was already the case with FF15. The important speakers at least have good synchro. NPCs is unfortunately cringe and you can tell that you didn't put a lot of money and time into it.
    But you can fix it if you play it in English or even better in Japanese.
    I'm glad to get a German synchro at all. Many don't do that anymore.
    The combat system is ok but not nearly as good as DMC. It's a mixture of KH and DMC, which is logical. It's partly too simple or simplified compared to DMC and KH, but I think that did the game good. Otherwise there would be too much frustration. The game is not designed or made to have precise inputs like DMC. Especially since the camera is too close to have an overview of the battlefield and always know exactly where each enemy is and when he is attacking you.

    Some boss fights were a bit annoying. Doesn't like fighting the big bosses that much if you're not fighting as an ifrit yourself. Doesn't feel as fast and good as DMC. But I am satisfied with it and a gigantic step forward compared to FF15. Tried replaying FF15 before starting FF16. This was not possible. In my opinion, FF15's combat system has aged very badly and is no longer really playable for me. FF16 does really well in comparison and is a dream. But that brings me back to my main criticism, did FF have to become more of a DMC and KH? Why didn't you move away from FF15 and go back to the roots? Luckily we didn't get a stamina bar. Hope we never get a Souls FF. If so, please only as a spinoff ser    … Expand

    Muito triste ver uma franquia tão aclamada como Final Fantasy ir do luxo ao lixo, falo em relação aos gráficos e as limitações bizarras de cenários, as quedas de resolução, etc .. o jogo simplesmente não tem nada de final fantasy apesar do nome.

    Não me importo em ser 30fps.

    Melhor sistema de "Historia" que já vi.. Volto em acontecimento passados de forma simples e com bastante detalhe do que aconteceu..

    Really Amazing game. I love the action based paradigm and the focus on providing a pure fun experience without having to worry about complicated RPG and open world element. The game allows you to just sit down and enjoy developpers effort to deliver one of the most epic games in terms of story and action.

    Literally the best game quality I have seen in an extremely long time. I had no issues with the game except for the lack of “rpg” elements but it is meant to be an action game. Take it from me, if anyone is being negative about the game, they are just doing it to be negative. Enjoy the game!

    While I agree that the RPG elements being stripped is a tragedy, the story, characters, spectacle, and world make up for it in spades. Wish I could give a perfect 10, but I would say it’s a 9/10 experience.

You tailor skill choices to your own style and can respec instantly at no cost.

    Visuals: The game looks beautiful. The environmental and monster design is interesting and varied. Lighting and textures create a grounded, realistic feeling. Cinematic combat is visually mind blowing. Overall, it's great balance between realistic and fantastical.

    Sound: This game has some of the best voice acting I've heard in video games. I suspect a lot of people overlook the mediocre story because the voice acting is so convincing. Soken, as always, creates thematic and moving music.

    Cons:

    Story: The story is aggressively mediocre. Outside of Clive, very few characters get any depth or characterization. Most of the characterization they do receive is full of old tropes (e.g. femme fatale who is evil because of sexual trauma, whore with a heart of gold, angry alpha male, wandering mystic).

    The plot takes inspiration from Game of Thrones, other Final Fantasy games, and superhero cliches without doing anything new with it. Over and over, I thought "I've seen this before." There are numerous cinematic shots and dialogues that veer too close to 1-to-1 copies of other material.

    But more than anything--the story takes itself too seriously. It tries to show you how bleak the world is over and over and over to the point where it loses meaning. It spews out dialogue at dramatic moments that reminds me of comic books I thought were deep and edgy as a kid. And nothing hints that the writers are self-aware of the cliches or stereotypes or dark farce they've created.

    Pacing: There are stretches of the game that feel like unnecessary filler and the pacing struggles, especially after the first half of the game. The game seems to think managing tension means separating cinematic set pieces with boring MMO-like quest design. "Go here, filler talk with this person, go here, fight 3 mobs, go here, etc." It also has a weird sense of time because there is a 5-year story skip.... but it feels like almost nothing happened during that time. This is one way the world feels shallow, everything clearly revolves around the main character.

    Combat Difficulty: There is only one combat difficulty until you reach New Game+. You can automate combat with accessories, but you can't make it harder. During the first story playthrough, combat follows a pattern of something like trash-trash-formidable foe-trash-boss. Bosses are the only mobs with significant combat mechanics and thinking required. Supposedly a lot of that trash is replaced with formidable foes in harder difficulties, which would go a long way to making combat last longer and feel more engaging. Instead, interesting encounters are rationed out every 2-3 hours of gameplay. There is no reason to gate harder settings other than an artificial attempt to prolong game time.

    Overall: I don’t regret playing the game, but I will hesitate to buy another game from this team. The fluid combat is fun; the cinematic fights are unparalleled; but the story and characters are a mishmash of cliches that take themselves way too seriously and the uneven pacing ultimately made the game feel too much like a chore. When I finally completed the game my overwhelming feeling was relief at being done.    … Expand

    Really smooth game difficult, you can un-wear rings to make it hard or wear it back to make it more casual.
    Storyline is solid and completed with all explanation about motivation of antagonists and protagonists.
    Boss battles are phenomenal, immersivity so deep and smooth that you can feel every movement you doing in game!

    One of the best visuals in games.
    Solid and completed story.
    Amazing combat system.

    Not sure what all the 0s are about. Oh wait I think I know. This game is a solid 9 for me. It has some flaws but I’m really enjoying the game. The boss fights are absolutely epic and this game is absolutely beautiful. The colors pop and the story is very good. Minus some motion blur issues and the obnoxious way the title for for each chapter pops up and after boss fights this game is excellent.

    Voice acting and cinematics are absolutely top notch and the game is chock full of epic moments.

    I’m playing in quality mode because performance doesn’t hold 60 fps. That’s my only knock on the game. That being said, the 30 fps in quality mode feels good (and looks incredible), especially during combat. The motion blur when looking around can be a little rough.    … Expand

Assassin's Creed has more RPG Elements at this point and that is sad for a game that is marketed as an RPG Game. The story, visuals, and sound are top tier and the new combat system makes it more accessible to fans of the third person view hack-n-slash the likes of Devil May Cry and Greek Mythology God of War games 1 thru 3. With a strong influence from the absolute amazing scale in God of War 3.

    This game has single handedly re-invigorated my love for the Final Fantasy franchise. Graphics are top tier, story is stellar, and the music is godlike. The combat is definitely the bread and butter of the entire experience and it never gets old. Weaving in and out of combos to find the right moment to lay into an enemy with your might is so much fun. When you unlock hunts later, the game truly demands that you hone your skills for some pretty intense battles.

    There has been some criticism with side quests; however, anyone stating that they are simple "fetch quests", has only ever played the first 3 side quests. The side quests in this game are great in introducing you to a cruel, bleak, and dark world. However, I would prefer if some of these quests were a little longer, in order to bring depth to some of these minor characters. Besides that the game hits 10's in all other departments.     The story is "decent". The demo really hit a home run here. It presented what was to become an epic tale and really built up to an awesome cliff hanger. In my opinion and in order to not spoil anything - the "rest" of the game as far as I have played does not deliver on those promises. It's not bad - but it is in my current (I hope I can find it in me to finish the game) opinion not good or great either.

    The latest SqE innovation in battle system leaves little to no impression. It is a mix of DmC with a touch of Soulslikes (timed parries and whatnot) and the "epic" Eikon battles feel more akin to a static on-rails VR shooter than an actual innovation. Perhaps the exclusion of the auto-battler accessories would make battle _slightly_ more challenging - however I found no major difference using them vs not using them. It's an "OK" battle system, nothing ground breaking. Just to be clear here - it all looks _FENOMENAL_ ... however there is a cost to all this phenomenal looking graphics.

    Setting the game to performance mode I was expecting the PS5 to deliver 4k60fps without any issues - that is certainly not the case in the majority of scenes. Expect 4k 48-59.9fps. Is that terrible? Well, it sort of is if that is how this console generation was sold to players. And while we are on the topic of performance - the constant shifting between "60fps" mode in normal play and "cinematic mode" (which perhaps is something like 30 fps?) leaves me even less impressed. Further more, the world map that players use to select a region to travel to is mindbogglingly slow/laggy. Sure - I can buy the argument that the cinematic experience is better at 30fps for several cinematic/human eye reasons... but the world map?! Come on...

    Looking a bit deeper one soon finds that the levels are extremely linear and every level are littered with in-modeled immersion breaking invisible walls , be it indoors or outdoors (although outdoor level suffer more apparently from this). Couple this with the overwhelming majority of geometry props also being hard modeled into the level and thus not available for geometry breaking actions (eg smashing boxes, tables, bookshelves etc) - note that I write majority here... there are situations where this is setup to occur however it is nowhere near at the level of say Diablo IV or similar ARPG titles. And since the developers have been quite clear with XVI being a "new direction" for Final Fantasy - I would have liked to see a _much_ greater degree of geometry interaction than what is currently present. To me, the world is way too static. Main hub zone have some voiced NPC's scattered around the area which help to alleviate the static nature.

    My god, man... this became a literal wall of text. Anyways - in short it's an acceptable, awesome-looking JRPG-KINDA-ARPG that innovates in battle systems and delivers a decent story at sub-par performance... in performance mode. All in all a 5/10.    … Expand

    FF16 has been perfect so far. Characters are possibly the best I've ever seen in a FF game since FF10. It's dark, fun, and looks fantastic. Cannot be anymore happy with it.

    Final Fantasy XVI is an excellent game in every way. If you're a fan of the series for the stories and characters, you won't go wrong here, and if you've avoided the series for, say, turn-based combat, the sixteenth installment offers the perfect opportunity to get started with this legend of the gaming industry.     This is a solid RPG/action game. Some elements of the game are unusual and fresh for single-player parts of the Final Fantasy series, but some are too dull and rudimentary.

    New numbered FFs are good again. Stunning to look at, with new, punchy combat, and a great yarn, it is, if anything, too focussed, lacking a bit of the weird. [Issue#30, p.78]
