Garbage after the last patch. The campaign was great but its clear Blizz has lost its magic or at the very least its direction.

Absolute garbage of a game. How this ever got released is beyond me. Even diablo 3 is better and that is saying a lot.

Blizz has head up rear end like normal. They don't know how to listen to a community. The bonfire talks are a gimmick were they act like they hear us yet come patch day it doesn't show. Get yourself into the free game of poe till they remove heads from rears and start listening

Imagine being a AAA gaming development company that makes products for people while somehow simultaneously hating those people and taking every avenue you can to screw them. That’s Blizzard. That’s Blizzard. And EA. Honestly, Diablo 4 has been a disaster since it’s release. It’s only redeemable quality was it’s campaign storyline. Beyond that it’s repetitive and a miserable grind. To add insult to injury, the devs continue to shoot themselves in the feet by making the game less and less enjoyable for it’s players. Every time a strategy or dungeon or item/combo is found to work well, the devs nerf it. INSTANTLY. All because the devs want the game to be more “challenging”. Pfft. There are plenty of ways to do that without sucking the fun out of something and requiring an addition couple hundred hours of grinding to get to the same point. Furthermore, when the devs get together to talk about the game, they say they’re going to address player concerns then blatantly do the opposite in their “campfire chats”. Locked comments of course.

Regardless, the point here is, if you haven’t bought Diablo 4 yet and you’re wondering if you should? Don’t. The same $60 USD could be spent on plenty of other games that are already in better conditions AND have an even brighter future ahead of them.

The game starts out strong, but the total lack of content and objectives in the endgame, poor builds diversity, unbalanced classes, and the tone deaf response of the devs to the community, make this a game to avoid

Why would we think Diablo 4 would be any different after the Diablo 3 blunders. Even though the game was missing dept and balancing in the endgame at least it was playable and somewhat enjoyable. The latest patch is the opposite of what has been asked for and the developers talked about. It is also way too early and literally made the game unplayable for many of us.

Blizzard is trying to make and Loot based ARPG MMO, without rewarding loot system. An ARPG without action. A MMO without a social system.
It tries to be everything, and fails on every aspect.

Kiiled the game with the latest patch. Blizzard is using the "bait and switch" to trick people into buying a classic game with a strong player base, then rapidly changing the game through "QOL" updates only to kill the fun in the game. Get ready for some abysmal Season 1 stats...

Yesterday's patch took any remaining fun out of this game. The "endgame" was already tedious and lacking any real reward, so they've made it even MORE TEDIOUS by nerfing literally every class and massively reducing the amount of experience received when grinding high levels. Thanks for reminding us that player experience doesn't actually matter to you. Don't waste your money, folks.

Overall, I just did enjoy some aspects of D4. But from the campaign to the end-game, it never felt enjoyable mainly because the gameplay itself just isn't engaging enough. Leveling is a slog, getting upgrades is not as rewarding as in previous diablo releases, and the scaling ruins my feeling of "getting more and more powerful".

Leveling is a slog, getting upgrades is not as rewarding as in previous diablo releases, and the scaling ruins my feeling of "getting more and more powerful".

Before the game even came out, i was very annoyed by yes, A PREDATORY, practice of charging 20 dollars extra for early access with a hardcore race behind it to FOMO consumers. Anyone who doesn't think this is a scummy, predatory practice is a corporate shill.

Campaign was extremely easy. I played a TB Rogue. The scaling world felt as though as completely side quests, strongholds, or farming dungeons was pretty meaningless as the scaling would just diminish that effort. So I just went straight through the campaign only to be extremely underleveled when fighting Lillith cause apparently that just didnt scale for some reason? I fought her at level 36 or 37, still one shot it because the game is very easy. Overall, the story, voice acting, and graphics were good but it was boring gameplay. I'd give the campaign a 6/10. It wasn't the worst, but it wasn't Halo 2 on Legendary.

The combat is more of the same as the last versions of Diablo and in some ways worse. You only have 6 abilities, 4 of the Barbarians spells are nearly essential lock-ins for buff, then you need one builder and one spender. This is across every build Barb has to offer. You press two buttons with some buffs. One you level up you can almost drop your spender because your shouts generate all your rage but most still keep it just in case. You really can't really afford to take leap, charge, steel grasp or anything fun really. Just buff, build, then spend. Was pretty silly that my D2 Barbarian had more spells to use than my D4 barbarian. I haven't played PoE and quit D3 probably after a month or playing it because the RMAH. However, it is crazy to me that in 23 years, I have less abilities in a game to use that is a ARPG. Combat for me is easily a 1/10, I can't imagine a worse action game then pressing 1 combat ability 95% of the time. This was acceptable 20 years ago, not now.

The gearing system leaves a lot to be desired, its not terrible so to speak but there are glaring issues. Nearly every build prioritizes Vulnerability, Crit, Crit %, and CDR. Resists are utterly useless. Gems have no use beyond your first 10 royals. Acquiring the gear is best done by doing half of a dungeon then resetting the dungeon. This makes for a very repetitive and unfun game loop of pressing one button for two minutes then reset and do 20s of load screens. I'd give gearing a 5/10.

The dungeon system was terrible. There are 100s of dungeons to do but you really should only do 2-3 because they are SO far ahead in terms of XP per hour you are wasting your time if you are not. Not to mention, most dungeons are crazy similar in their mechanics (kill all mobs, bring two boxes to holders, etc.) and end bosses of dungeons are pretty lame. Nightmare dungeons were a bit more fun cause the scaling made them more difficult but the rewards just aren't there to justify doing them. I'd give this a 3/10.

The world content varied greatly. Strongholds were amazing. Statues of Lilith / Renown grind was an insane grind and not very exciting outside Strongholds. World bosses were a complete joke. Side quests were mediocre, not much there. The horse is really bugged and the CD on it was kind of annoying. I'd give the outdoor content a 5/10.

Overall I give the game a 4/10. In my opinion, the developers really need to address the gameplay first and foremost. Barbarian was extremely boring and only having 6 abilities to use is such a disservice to modern games. If they fixed the vehicle im traversing the world through, doing dungeons and world content would be much more enjoyable. I think the game has a decent base to build off of, but is it worth 70 dollars, not now in my opinion.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was tolerable for a little while. It felt a bit like an early release without them telling you it was before purchasing, During this faux early release period (pre season 1 patch) there wasn't much to do once you leveled up. No real chase items (and once those chase items became obtainable by around 140 people them made sure to put an end to shat real fast). There is really nothing to actually do except sink 300+ attempts into a boss fight that is literally just move to avoid mechanics or else you die in literally one hit. So we patiently awaiting this "huge season 1 patch" The only thing huge about it was disappointment. The nerfed essentially every single class, they gutted the Sorceress class that was already by far the worse class in the game, and to add insult to injury they got the only new unique that is actually detrimental to use, They are quick to nerf anything players enjoy and a slog to release things the player asked for which has only been like 3 things they have answered to. I guess they don't have to constantly try to answer player feedback (which they don't really do) if they don't have a player base to begin with. I would suggest playing Hero Siege (a pixel based diablo) over this game at this point..... Expand

This game was already difficult and a tad boring, but after the S1 patches, it's mostly unplayable. The nerfs, the changes. It just shows Blizzard cares about money and not their players. No thanks, I'll just find another game that actually cares about their players.

Game has no story, no continuation of plot. The game play is repetitive without the fun that indie games would bring. There are few decisions to make in the game, instead setting up a repetitive grind that rewards time, not the player.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Story is good and well voice acted. The gameplay had potential but the patch prior to season one is a massive misstep. It's made the good things worse than they were and done little to address the bad things. As it stands I wouldn't recommend anyone getting the game. The cost is too high in comparison to the content. The updates are aimed more at causing players to spend more time playing for less rewards than they are at improving upon the player experience. Issues in particular:

Quests still bugged from launch. Helltide costs increased. Helltide cinders drastically reduced. XP reduced massively. Tier 3 and 4 are both now level gated. Rewards reduced in every area. Group content has been devalued. No group finder. No stash tabs. Not enough inventory space. Resistances don't work and haven't been fixed. Player damage nerfed. Player defense nerfed. I'm sure I'm probably missing stuff. As it stands this feels more like an open beta with the developers scrambling to try and fix what they can to meet deadlines that the game will never be ready for.

Its pretty obvious at this point the developers of the game dont actually play it. Some of the decision made are just...odd, they made a loot based game with boring loot, a dungeon crawler with cut and paste repetitive dungeons with no significant differences from one to the next- 150 dungeons with just a handful of bosses and once done with the campaign you never get to see those bosses ever again. The cost of rebuilding your character to try new things is only possible if you, once again play 10+hours a day and even then is just ridiculous. They had 3 previous games to build off of but decided they wanted to shoot for a more AARPG/MMO style game but then start taking out multiplayer aspects because they decided a small percent of players are leveling too fast and shining a spotlight on the fact they biffed the endgame? So the decision was to make leveling even worse for others so they dont have a chance to get there? Not everything is bad but if you throw a pearl in an elephant turd and people arent gonna glove up and look for the pearl. Expand

Was great before the patch. Now with everything nerfed to prolong the game, they ruined this game in my opinion. After hundreds of hours playing you should feel powerful but I guess the devs don't think so. Wasted all that time grinding to make my character strong only to get nerfed to the ground.

There's a fair bit to like about Diablo IV — best-in-class sound design, intriguing character classes, fantastic graphics and occasionally addictive gameplay all feel like the series in its prime. However, even the best parts are let down by an undercurrent of frustrating design choices: the cynical inclusion of a Battle Pass, a bloated open world, repetitive mission structure and progression that too often feels meaningless cast a long shadow that let the latest Diablo title down. Future Seasons may refine what's here, but many of its issues sadly feel baked into the core experience. All but the most die-hard fans may wish to wait for a substantial sale on this one.

Diablo is back, and taking no prisoners. The top-quality, lengthy campaign will be enough for some, while the endgame should prove a welcome obsession for others. [Issue#30, p.84]
