It is ok for the first 30 hours. After you get to world tier 4, there doesnt seem to be insentive to play.
Also there are stupid items that change gameplay significantly, you cant trade for those items.
Why all the stupid nurfs, you make the game less fun and dont improve any immersion,

I really wanted to like it but everytime I pick it up I want to close it off within a few minutes. As new iterations of Diablo come out they seem to lose a bit more of what made them good. Now it feels like a empty husk of a game. I would not recommend it. The devs don't care about making the game fun. They care about making the game good on paper by wasting your time.

This is a visually pale, very repetitive, and extremely grindy game without any good feeling of improving your character.

They're turning D4 into WOW to me. I personally hate WOW. I find it so boring and slow. But they want it to be slow because you're paying monthly and you can pay for level boosts.

This is what they're doing to D4. Its slower and more boring than D3. Paying to skip tiers? **** off. This used to be one of my favourite game franchises. But this is what Blizzard/Activision do. They ruined COD and now they're doing it to D4. I was so worried for D4 when Activision merged with Blizzard and I was so right to be. Micro transactions are the death of quality games and do not belong in RPGs.

The story is great but unfinished. Probably so they can do endless expansion DLCs like WOW. More money grabbing.

Also sets???? The death of them is most likely due to cosmetics.

Diablo 4 General Game Feedback (pre-Season 1 patch):

    The Good:
The campaign story experience was interesting and engaging and felt like a decent organic leveling experience. Then, at level 37 through 70 I ran around and did all Strongholds, Dungeons, Altars of Lilith, all map exploration, and engaged in Tree of Whispers, Legion and Helltide dynamic events and a few Nightmare Dungeons; all mostly in World Tier 3. Then at 70 I battled my way solo through the capstone dungeon (fun and challenging) to get into World Tier 4. I was instantly killed regularly (Sorceress) and just stopped playing. Then I decided to go experience the other classes up to level 30 so I could at least equip them at 25 with the appropriate aspects for their class and build (see below).

The randomness of The Butcher appearing in a dungeon was amazing! The sense of panic and having to react to him to survive was an excellent element in the game and one of the best concepts I have experienced in any game. I wish there were more bosses randomly appearing at times like that.

The overall graphics and sound/music was good. The character customization was average, and the cosmetics from the shop were reasonable but need more variety which I expect will happen over time.

    The Bad:
Incredibly limited storage space on the character and in the stash. Need to move gems, aspects and sigils to the materials list. Storage needs a search feature. Equipment icons need better artwork to not all look the same.
The social aspect of the game is meh at best. Other than open world dynamic events, I didn't group with anyone. Even though I was in a clan with members from other games, we hardly talked or grouped.

    The Ugly:
The crowd control (stun, slow, freeze, walls, snares, etc.) is ridiculous in this game. Losing control of a character is not fun gaming, even if it is 5% or less of the time in combat. In this game? It's 75% or more of the time during combat!

The number of monsters that cause damage after death is also completely unacceptable. It's one thing for a single mob type, like "fatties," having that miserable affix is one thing, but 95% of the mobs in this game explode and/or stun you after they die. Why? WHY?!!

The mount feature is pathetic! It doesn't path well, and is incredibly slow and has limited "burst" to get out of trouble. It's faster to just walk sometimes? Terrible.

The itemization in this game is unnecessarily complex and the loot drops are completely worthless 99.999% of the time. There's no excitement from finding a unique, which is often worse than a legendary you've been wearing for many, MANY, hours of gameplay.

The lack of defenses and resistances was bad, and just got incredibly worse in the Season 1 patch. Combine this with the miserable amount of crowd control and post-death damage and it's not a fun game to play, full stop.

    Class Leveling Experience Feedback:
I leveled one class to 70, the rest to 30.

Sorcerer - Firewall to Ice Shards (70)
Was mostly fun. Firewall graphics were awesome! However , damage didn’t scale against higher level content and I re-specialized into ice shards which was visually less fun but very effective. Overall it was fun but incredibly squishy for a game style requiring melee distance. I got to World Tier 4 and struggled to survive so I stopped to go test other classes.

    Rogue – Twisting Blades (30)
The most effective and fluid playstyle of all available classes. It wasn’t as visually fun as Sorcerer, but it was so efficient in clearing any content. Great in multi-target or single target. Awesome experience at each stage from 1 to 30!

    Necromancer – Bone Spear (30)
A bit slow to get going, but eventually was effective from level 12 to 30. It was somewhat fun, but not as fluid as Rogue or Sorc. Visually it was fine, and it felt resource constrained in longer boss fights.

    Barbarian – Whirlwind (30)
This is typically my favorite class in the Diablo franchise. However, this was brutal. It was clunky, sluggish, and resource constrained the entire way from 1 to 30. Visually it was “meh.” It felt like the character was stuck in mud and struggling for resources throughout most of the experience.

    Druid – Tornado (30)
This was horrible. Same exact issues as the Barbarian in being resource constrained and sluggish at every step.

    Summary:
The Sorcerer and Rogue were mostly fun but need improvements for survivability. The visual effects for fire are the best in the game, and all other class effects could be improved to that benchmark. I might consider pushing both classes to 100. The Necromancer shows potential but feels unfinished/unpolished. I might revisit this class in the future based on patch notes. The Barbarian and Druid were a miserable experience. I’d rather be dragged through a mile of broken glass than play one more hour on either of these classes.

Furthermore, the new Oculus wand teleported me into the ground over TEN times during a single Helltide! My character was stuck unless fast traveled. Speaking of Helltides, they’re basically useless after patch 1.1 as it takes almost the entire hour to open a single sub 150 cinder chest.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Blizzard is dead, thank you Activision. This game suffers from the same issues as every other activision title- looks cool enough to reel you in, but past a few hours the whole goal is to drag you along. The latest 1.1 patch is proof of this. The game was released initially with massive class issues, rather than fix those issues in the month leading up to season one, Blizzard ignored everyone’s suggestions and pushed out a patch to slow down the game. Okay, fine, slow down the game, but fix the balance issues. Sorcerer class is useless, other classes are teetering on obscurity. Tons of quality of life issues. COME ON, this isn’t the first game blizzard has ever made, not even the first Diablo, but it seems like they don’t have 3 previous games to home quality of life (lack of stash space, no stash search). Absolute mess. Already wasted $70, no way I’m spending another $30 on battle pass. Too many other great games to spend time on rather than shill out more cash to these “game developers” who treat their IP’s like money printing machines and not brands that need to be fleshed out and refined. I would have rated the game a 6-7 with potential to be a 9 or 10 until this pre-S1 patch. Gutting defenses, nerfing CDR, and failing to address any if the severe QoL issues alongside their stated reasoning for these changes makes it a 3 at best until leadership changes.

Builds were suppose to be working from every classes are not working correctly ( they dont fix **** on every goddamn patch they impose, all they do is nerfing something else ) , zero quality of life ( even after tons of recommendation from users/ actual players have suggested ) they seems to be blind on this one, and finally it came to its glorious 1.1 patch, downright the most **** if not one of the patch in arpg history in recent years. You strip the fun out of the game you bunch of stubborn mules, why make a patch focusing to slow the entire game down? Nerf on exp gain, damage, affixes, armor, damage reduction and etc, like seriously? We were asking for endgame content, slowing the game down wasnt a content ffs, not at all. You guys dont like seeing people having fun is that it? or is it just a scheme to make the progress of season one direly slow so it would force people to do ingame purchase to level up the seasonal pass level? The list goes on but if you think nerfing the game on every patch is the way to keep the game going, well good luck on that, effing mules. Expand

Game was phenomenal with the original intent and design, but after a recent patch, the intent by the developers is to drive people away from the game to lower server populations with blanket reductions to capabilities, introducing class breaking flaws instead of providing corrections. Just another corporate money grab at this point. What a shame.

This game has a tons of issues need to be addressed. But Blizzard chose to ignore them, ignore the pains of players. They don't priority the problem solving, and even made some most critical ones worse. That is ridiculous. I never saw any company like Blizzard lacking of customer care.

Rated a 1 for the campaign, which is pretty decent. But that goes quick, and the midgame/endgame is abysmal, with seemingly no improvements on the horizon.

The way Blizzard treats players reminds me of an abusive spouse. They’ll shower you with small “gifts”, then knock you around a little bit to put you in your place, then they’ll say sorry and act like they’ve changed, only to hit you

To make matters worse, Diablo 4 managed to strip away the essence of an action role-playing game, delivering a hollow experience without real action or satisfying looting mechanics. The lack of engaging combat and rewarding loot progression leaves players questioning what happened to the beloved franchise they once knew. It's a disheartening departure from the very core that made Diablo games legendary, leaving fans yearning for the days of true action and meaningful loot drops.

Higher tier, you would continue to drop lower tiers drop, pretty much useless on the most part. farming yellow item to take 15 mins every 10 mins of farm to check on them to gain 3 DPS overall, which is now even higher after they added useless stats to check on (such as barrier generation on characters without barrier in the first place) to get even less good items to grind even more. Adding to it straight up not working stats (resistances) bugged skills, bugged legendaries, nerfing over and over characters while buffing enemy, the whole existence of Uber drops, that you may encounter on season 45 if you're lucky and play 12 hr a day to drop one that might not even be useful to you, last patch preseason that just killed 2 characters even further, making them unplayable on endgame, as well as reducing exp to get from a ~150-200 hour grind from lvl 1 -100 to a 500 hour grind reducing enemy on map/dungeon overrall so much that you feel lucky the moment you encounter more that 5 monster. I always loved Diablo. Diablo IV doesnt feel like Diablo anymore, it is MMO and ARPG mixed, both genres with endless content, but the game doesnt have any content. You are done in 2-4 weeks and bored. You could say the game is new, but the season 1 patch truly showed their real intention. There is not 1 thing that makes the game better in anyway in season 1. You GET MORE damage, you DO LESS damage, you take MORE TIME for the same thing. You are FORCED to do Openworld time restricted; helltides and they made it worse, taking you longer to get what you are there for. Nightmare Dungeons do not make any sense because you dont get XP and you dont have a reason to do that when your glyphs are max level (content missing here too)
The pinnacle boss cannot be beaten with every class or build, you will need the right build to be able to stand a chance. Thats actuallly ok, but not good design.
They lack several QoL features, even essential ones iike seing the possibilities of stats you could get or even showing numbers how high (funny that this is the core mechanic of fun; gearing up)

Forcing Online Mode is useless, you see others but never do anything with randoms.
They changed several things with XP which didnt make any sense, i was 100 in 3 weeks and they still buff it sometimes (or now nerf it)
They dont know what do to. They didnt add anything exciting to season 1.

Uniques in D4 are mostly trash because they have fixed stats you cant get lucky to get good stats. Most uniques have useless stats and are really just TRASH. (even meme legendary effects...)

All classes have barely no skill decision and are forced to use more defensive skills which makes all builds the same.

NM dungeons have stupid affixes, thats a game design choice, but it is not really cool or clever.
For example a lightning which kills you across the map if you are not inside a bubble, you cant split your team to be faster because you might kill your friend. Or the whole team dies because you rush the dungeon and cant go back because of a ladder (good job)

The game had to be at such a high price, because my standard skins look EXACTLY the same like the ones i can buy for 20 euro and no one ever buys this "cosmetics"
Im totally real this shop is the worst skin shop I've ever seen.

MMO experience is nonexistence it leaves you asking why is this in the game?
Dungeons are all the same, kill all enemies or find and place an item on a pedestal.
The eternal realms have been nerfed to balance the season, so if you don't play the season prepare to be underwhelming.

This was such a great game until Blizzard lost their nerve with the 1.1 patch. Before the grind was fun, now it is tedious. Running dungeons with a good team was as much fun as you can have with your clothes on pre-patch, but despite having built in incentives to create certain kinds of builds, the devs have nerfed anything that is even moderately successful. (3) You won't be able to just try out new fun builds, because switching takes hours of gold saving monotonous clicking paragon points. (4) There's too many useless secondary stats so 99.9999% of gear that drops is useless. It's very common to hear people not updating a single piece of gear from levels 75-90 because upgrades are so rare. (5) Dev teams provided so little content for the game they are nerfing XP to try and slow the game down to make it artificially last longer. (6) Constant nerfs, not just to damage but things like cool down reduction make the game feel more turn-based than "action" rpg, you'll spend time standing around waiting for cooldowns in-between packs. (7) Nightmare dungeons are so poorly designed you often spend time backtracking in them because of poor layout. (8) Uniques required for certain builds (not Uber uniques) have been know to just not drop at all for the entire level experience from 1-100. You may see a specific druid build you want to try but never in month of leveling from 1-100 ever see that item needed for that build. (9) Rerolling stats on gear is prohibitively costly so even a piece of near perfect gear with 1 bad stat often has to be thrown away. (10) Tomorrow's fireside chat that Blizzard has announced after the immediate backlash to S1 patch will 100% be them just telling players that players are and devs are right and devs know what's best, when it's clear none of them have played the game past level 25.

For these 10 reasons do not play Diablo 4, and do not pre-order any Blizzard game ever again.

However, the initial execution, with substantial balancing patches within weeks of release, makes you wonder what testing Blizzard did from a player perspective and whether they rushed release for some unknown reason. Also, repeated stealth changes not mentioned in any patch notes makes you wonder why there is selective transparency from Blizzard.

The game is aimed at the causal player base, evidenced in a lack of build diversity for anyone who wants to invest time in exploring possibilities.

The ‘fun factor’ of the game has been significantly impacted by repeated changes (no more so than by patch 1.1.0 release just prior to the game’s first season - which significantly weakens every character). This is a slap in the face to anyone who has invested time - causal or hardcore - in building up and refining their choice of character.

The message is that the player base is beta testing a game they payed for - which should have been a lot for definite and polished upon release.

The huge swings in character power are off putting and make anyone think ‘why invest time now in building up a character?’, as if this pattern continues your fav build today could be turned upside down tomorrow. This degree of unpredictability and surety is not fun.

The changes implemented also ignore major quality of life changes the community have been crying out for (Storage space is at a minimum to encourage grinding, lack of interesting endgame, leaderboards, separate gem tabs….the list goes on).

Many of the most recent patch changes (1.1.0) are aimed at slowing the game down to make progressing take longer - keeping players in the game and adding incentive to play Seasonal content - of which even more can be charged for the Battlepass (following many spending 70 - 100 dollars / pounds for the game on release). Blizzard need to stop thinking like a corporate body and return to their roots of a gaming company - making ‘fun’ for their player base their top priority.

I would suggest staying clear of this one until the game is in more of a stable state with the player experience being the paramount objective.

Worst game I have ever played with worst developers. They cannot make good changes to the game even if the community outlines it for them.

I highly doubt they even play this game or know how to make items for it. Just go to google and compare Oculus item in Diablo 2 and Diablo 4. Sorc class is pretty much unplayable after campaign. It is like these devs never intended for you to have

The funny part is I paid only $18 for it as I had leftover gold in WoW that I changed into Blizzard balance and I am angry. I can only imagine how somebody who paid $99 feels.

Best thing to do is quit at this point I think. There are other games to play with game devs that actually want you to have fun

Player base reached out about balancing issues, so what does the dev team do? Further nerf builds needing help, and barely touching overpowered builds. On top of all this, they want TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS for the battle pass. Battle pass clearly has pay to win elements like Diablo Immortal. They dragged us in with a potentially good game then gave it the Diablo Immortal treatment.

You guys had to go full Activision at the end didn't you. Thought we had the old Blizz back that understood good content and a happy player base was important. Activision came in and said they could increase your profits by X and you ate it up. The constant nerfing is really demoralising. I am a casual gamer, and this slid from fun to frustration far too quickly. I've followed Diablo from 1 to 4. Time to move on.

Should be a good game. But the changes the developer made just destroyed your hope.

Blizzard doesn't care or want to make this game better, the game is already infected with issues, upon issues but instead of listening to the player base and trying to fix the actual issues, they nerfed the whole game so that no one would have fun. to make it worse they didn't even give us an alternative nothing to compensate for destroying everything to the ground.

Tone deaf developers are running a live service game into the ground. Basically instead of adding content they are nerfing the entire playerbases characters dramatically and slowing experience gains down, trying to extend the life cycle of the game, all while forcing you to create a new character for the new seasons all while making 0 quality of life improvements. No care for the players, only the money they already received. It's sad that they did this, but at least it lets the players know to not trust Blizzard in the future. Weird they would shoot their own foot like this, but I guess this is what they wanted.

First (and now last) Blizzard game I have purchased. I was really excited about this but after the patch I just feel that I got duped by a bait n switch. Unless Blizzard actually starts listening to its user base, don't waste your money on the game.

I had fun playing diablo 4 for a week. Max 30 hours I think.

The game feels unfinished with very little to do now and a recent patch has made.it way to slow and boring and fairly pointless.

Have uninstalled and might check back in 4/5 months when new content is released

1.1.0 Patch destroyed the game!!!! Plain and simple no ambitious to play this game. Hours and hours of grinding the perfect loot for my build for these people to nerf EVERYTHING!!! Give me a reason to play this pure trash that they turned this game into after i loved playing this game so much. WILL NOT be playing season 1 and its a shame as i was looking forward to it.

There's a fair bit to like about Diablo IV — best-in-class sound design, intriguing character classes, fantastic graphics and occasionally addictive gameplay all feel like the series in its prime. However, even the best parts are let down by an undercurrent of frustrating design choices: the cynical inclusion of a Battle Pass, a bloated open world, repetitive mission structure and progression that too often feels meaningless cast a long shadow that let the latest Diablo title down. Future Seasons may refine what's here, but many of its issues sadly feel baked into the core experience. All but the most die-hard fans may wish to wait for a substantial sale on this one.

The visuals are probably what excited me the most. The way the game looks and the atmosphere makes me feel like I'm playing the old Diablo again. On steroids and on a quadruple screen TV, but the feeling is still there. [Issue#328]

Diablo is back, and taking no prisoners. The top-quality, lengthy campaign will be enough for some, while the endgame should prove a welcome obsession for others. [Issue#30, p.84]
