I watched the stream of this game and can only comment that the game is complete emotional rollercoaster by somebody that does not understand how emotions work. 22 hours of drawing from hate and disgust. When proven that this is not everything that can exist and there is alternative, it is all thrown into the mud andDon't care about the company that made it, don't care about the leaks.     Joel gets his head bashed in with golf club in the first hour. That's like killing off Jennifer anistons Rachel in friends season 2 and then replace her with her killer. Like you just don't do that. Graphics are great. Story is terrible and depressing.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I just cant explain how i'm dissapointed about the story and the timelines of the game.

    You wish to have at least a couple of good scenes(Fights too) with joel but no he is just gone right away. Mindfck Number 1! You start the game by petting a dog and then you have to cut the dogs guts to get past a section at first quarter (yes you can still go stealth and not kill them but come on, no one can do that at first playing). Your horse (shimmer) just f* explodes. Mindfck Number 2!

    Imagine getting over these things in couple of scenes. Just as you are focusing again and halfway trough you are doing good. Suddenly you are playing as the villain characther (Not to mention seeing her flashbacks without knowing her makes it reaaly hard to understand how she got to joel at first place.) Before you get time to just understand the situation comes 2 random kids. Abby doesnt kill them and helps them thats ok( which i think the forest part and the whole med search part was just time filler and totally unnecesary). But why would you then start to fight with both sides??? (With both scars and wolwes, in scar village scenes stealth was optional but she kills them rather then like, knock them out)

    And after all that you come face to face with ellie in a COMBAT, like wtf is happening. After the fight Abby just lets ellie live, hmmm. Fast forwarding they live in a farmhouse with her girlfriend-baby (btw that baby can talk????!?!?) and ellie has no idea about abbys past and her dad. And still wants revenge on her. Just to not kill her but to save her ...    … Expand

    Loved the first, but this sequel contradicts almost every good aspect the prequel had. It's a game meant to be played for the story, clearly. Yet it does not help when the story turns out to be absolute drivel.
    It only exists to promote a woke narrative, let's not kid ourselves.

I find it just as hypocritical as the game's ending, for people to say: "The user score is made up of people who haven't even played the game". However, have nothing to say about the 95 Metascore of critics who only played the first 12 hours. They haven't really played as Abby, and have not even gotten to review the end. (Also, it is possible for them to have been influenced by Sony or ND).

    Anyways, remember, most people are not disappointed of the fact that Joel dies, more so than how he dies and then having to play as that character that kills him, with NO character development whatsoever! Had an expansion come out where we played as Abby, or had the first 12 hours you play as Abby and THEN she kills Joel, maybe (and that's a far stretch). What Joel did was bad, I get that. But are we going to sit here and justify everything Abby does?

    Also, for those who are saying that the only reason for someone to dislike this game is because they are NOT open-minded to LGBT+, I invite you to search The Last of Us: Left Behind on Metacritic. Go ahead, and check the user score. This DLC is actually where we find out that Ellie is queer. The grand majority of gamers enjoyed this DLC. No one has a problem with gay main characters. Stop that self-pity excuse to be exonerated from weak characters writing. Every good storyteller know "The Hero's Journey". This game is too pretentious to even acknowledge a hero exists.

    I don't need to play a game, to review everything that has been spoiled and revealed. I have played MANY outstanding games that were spoiled for me, and still enjoyed them. Why? Because they followed the most basic sketch to a good story: characters, trials and tribulations, mentors, "the bad-guy", a quest, and a resolution. It is clear for anyone who has read the reviews: Ellie let's Abby go. So she murders dozens upon dozens of people, and then has a realization that murder won't solve anything.

    TRUE, but if you are thinking with this logic, then neither will you (the only presumed person alive to be immune to this fungus), walking away in sadness. In this case, and I know this will be controversial, have Ellie come to terms with what she must do, and give herself up, so that she can finish what they started in the first game. It will be a controversial ending, however, it will make chicken salad out of the chicken crap you gave us there at the end.

    Feel free to buy and play the game if you desire. But remember this is a $60+ USD game that might not be accepted for refund or trade-in. And a lot of the people telling you to buy the game and play for yourself know this. It's marketing.

    Anyways, those are my two cents. Which is about the only thing I would pay for this game.    … Expand

    As a huge fan of the first, not just for the gameplay but mostly the amazing story. This was a terrible let down in terms of story. Graphically the game is great, gameplay is mostly the same with some improvements but my main selling point of the game was story and it failed to deliver on that part.

    The game is needles, it punishes exploring and let’s you have no thinking power. Everything is found on Pieces of paper In arms reach of where it is needed. The game is one giant fetch quest with obvious plot walls that give no choice. It is good graphically but with the budget you would expect that. Honestly Save your money.

He did something bad, whatever good reason he had, he did something bad, and killed a lot of people. The game does a great job showing you the consequences of his actions and how not everything if black and white. Ellie and Joel are NOT good people entirely (Joel sacrificed humanity for Ellie, Ellie killed a pregnant woman). But, the main bad guys of the story aren’t also entirely evil, nor good. We’re showed the WLF as this bad faction and militarized thing and bad all around but then you get to see their society and how your actions also affect “REAL” people’s lives. Everyone has their reasons, and good reasons, to do the things they did. Joel killed Abby’s dad for Ellie, and Abby had every right to kill Joel. And Ellie has her right to be angry and vengeful but that doesn’t make her a good person, no one is. This is great story telling. You play both sides and it is compelling. I was mad when I got to play as Abby again because I love Joel, but then I got why that happen. Again, great storytelling, great art style, great gameplay (drags on a little by the end, but because I wanted no get to the end so badly and know that happens), great graphics and technical achievements, etc. Truly a masterpiece. Not perfect, but it achieved everything it set out to made.… Expand

    The game graphics and mecanics are incredible but the story is so, so bad; there were a lot of other things to explore but they did this **** story about revenge where Ellie kills half of the post-apocaliptic US population and then forgives Abby, a character that came from nowhere and that only found joel because of luck.

Dina, Jesse and Ellie were all great together but the game was more concerned with finding the edginess of the walking dead instead of finding meaningful moments to let the player experience. Every moment with Abby is pure pain, the game doesn’t have faith in me to understand that a character could have an understanding sympathetic back story without making me play every boring second of it.… Expand

The writing is a major step down from the last game, and the story it does try to tell is bare, and utterly cliched. "Revenge is bad", yeah you don't say. But the thing is, Abby couldn't show sympathy, why should Ellie? Abby is painted as a bad character from the start, AND SHE IS! She never actually redeems herself. And don't even get me started on the major step down already well-written characters received. Joel suddenly lost all of his years of experience as a survivor, AND THAT GOT HIM KILLED! This is my first time reviewing a game here, and I'm going to be fair. I'll split the game into two categories: Story / Narrative, and gameplay. Graphics are nice but don't make the game any more enjoyable so I won't add that to the review. Story: 0/5 - Gameplay: 4/5. In total, this game comes out at a total disappointing score of 4/10. Great job Naughty Dog. Completely un-enjoyable game. How did I sit through 20 hours of a good franchise's murder?… Expand

The story isn't special, so are the characters. Trying to build Abby and her friends hours after they killed Joel, and making us feel for them in a **** way, was totally wrong. I was happy when all of her friends died, even when it was supposed to be "emotional". They also make Lev a large subplot, even though what she was going through has NOTHING to do with the world of last of us. I have no problem for lgbt rep, if anything, Bill in the first Last of Us was great, same for the DLC, but this time, shoving it in our faces isn't the way. Along with a ****ty ending, first, Abby kills Joel in front of Ellie, Kills Jesse, almost kills Tommy, breaks her arm, beats Dina's face in almost cutting her throat, and bites two of her fingers off, just to have a small memory of Joel, and letting her go. For a sequel that was 1000000 percent anticipated, it delivered a large disappointment. I enjoyed the flashbacks with Joel, but they always ended up in showing what he did, that justifies his death. We all knew he was gonna die but like this? It's just bad. If you like the new Star Wars trilogy and the last two seasons for Game of Thrones, buy this game. If you love the characters from the first game, a good plot, and hope that no social politics will be shoved in your face, DON'T buy this game.… Expand

    Playstation needs to offer refunds for this game, this is hands down one of the worst AAA games I have bought. Not only is the gameplay and mechanics crap, but in the first hour almost every character that we fell in love with and appreciated from TLOU1 got ruined. The story writing is bland and about as 2020 as it gets also.

    It doesn't make any sense that this game is in the three-point range. I was angry that something sad happened in this game. However, the more I did, the more I understood the character Abby, and it was comforting to see Elly and Joel playing in the past. The more I saw the game and graphics, the more I was amazed.The Last of us Part 2 is a masterpiece.

    If you haven't played part 1, then part 2 is a solid 4/10.

    What a garbage story, what a disrespectful way to kill a beloved character, what a way to push agendas using video games, compare the first LOU with this rubbish, yeah the play is assume but everything else is trash, if you are a fan of the first LOU, you are up for a disappointment and bad experiment when you finish this rubbish story.
    The game will be returned, what a waste of time.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. “After everything we’ve been through, it all can’t be for nothing.” - Ellie to Joel, The Last of Us. Well, it sure felt like it after this game. Let’s get the obvious out of the way: Graphics were probably the best the PS4 has ever seen and will ever see. Nobody’s going to dispute that. But The Last of Us wasn’t about its stellar graphics when it came out in 2013. The game itself was tied together by the two characters of Joel and Ellie. Not only did those two make the game what it is today, the story itself couldn’t function properly if it WASN’T Joel and Ellie. And that’s the biggest problem with its sequel. The devs made it evidently clear they didn’t view Joel with the same amount of importance as we the fans did. And in little over two hours of gameplay, Joel and Tommy, two of the main character of our beloved first game, two of the most untrusting and hard-headed characters, casual walk into a stranger’s base, and give up their real names and where they LIVE without thinking, KNOWING that Joel is being hunted down, and that’s how he dies. Remember how Joel couldn’t come to trust Henry and Sam, and if Sam wasn’t there, he admits he would’ve KILLED Henry? That’s the type of character Joel is. Whoever Joel is in Part II, that’s not him, and the devs proved it to us they had no care with creating this game and making it about its characters. The best new character we meet, Jesse, gets killed off like he was nothing, and we’re supposed to find a way to sympathize with Abby? They expect us to WANT to play as Abby for over ten HOURS of the game? Yeah, no thanks. But, we have no choice. The game itself demonizes Joel and Ellie to the point where it literally asks you: “What, he didn’t deserve grrring his skull caved in with a golf club?” As well as trying to send they main message they revenge and violence is bad. The entire story felt lazy and uninspired, and had more cringe-worthy sex scenes and unnecessary attempts at decent character development with characters we don’t know nor care about then it did moments that felt like a game about characters that I enjoy. The best moments of this game came in flashbacks that took place right AFTER the events of the first game. Ah, what could’ve been, am I right? The actions all these characters make make little to no sense with who they were compared to the first game, and at the end, when Ellie lets Abby leave on the boat with Lev, after everyone she’s killed, after leaving Dina, and losing Jesse, Joel, and almost Tommy, she doesn’t even carry out her promise to Tommy of avenging Joel, and we, the player, are suppose feel satisfied?

    Gameplay and graphics are great, nobody is saying otherwise. Though there’s so much walking and taking and long, boring moments within this unsatisfying fan fiction of a story that takes an absolute **** on what the original game had created. They didn’t further explore the actual world of The Last of Us, they didn’t continue on with Ellie’s importance of being immune, or even discuss the idea of a vaccine. In the end, it was a worthless game, made for money and money only, and to have our beloved characters lose everything, with no choice or input from the player. A literal interactive movie, that forces us to watch out characters be anything but themselves for twenty-five hours. For a story driven game, this one didn’t hit home. Far from home, really. A disappointment to the fans who waited seven years to see what Naughty Dog could create. And after all the false-flagging and taking down of YouTube channels, videos, and Twitter pages? This is what Naughty Dog deserves. I’m sorry Ellie, but everything you’ve been through, it reall was all for nothing. Save your time, and tor money. 1/5 — 2/10.    … Expand

    Yeah I recently played the DLC for part 1, what a shame. It is just a political correct story, play the first one and compare it with this part 2, play it, and don't take only my comment as absolute, but probably most of you are going to agree that it was made only from the idea everyone should be like new society demands, just no.

Just for it to get ruined and to make me want to forget about this game and look for something else to be excited for. (And by the way, I thought the leaks wouldn't be as bad as they were and I was one of those people who got mad whenever someone said the game was bad, and defended it. So this just gives you perspective about how much I cared for this game.) I don't even know where to start. The only good thing about this game is the graphics, the graphics look AMAZING and ran really well on my PS4, which I thought would melt playing this. Now the bad stuff, and oh boy it's a lot. First of all, the overall "revenge" plot is just garbage. By the time I was finished with Nora I wanted to leave Seattle because I thought that is enough. You brutally killed enough WLF and Seraphites to make your message clear that you wanted revenge and did. Secondly, the characters in this game are flawed and your hopes to see development with them is just spat in your face. You can't just kill off characters just like that to try and be "bold". No, people are going to hate that and they do. It shows with these reviews and mine. For example, and perhaps the worst death I've ever seen in a video game, Joel. Naughty Dog thought it would be bold to kill one of the most beloved characters in the whole series too push the revenge narrative. And I should add that Ellie treats Joel like garbage in this game, (except for the flashback of the Museum.) And all Joel does it try to treat her with the upmost respect and Ellie is just a jerk to him. The whole thing where characters die out of nowhere is just a disappointing way to kill people. At least let them have their moment like Henry and Sam in the first game. That was a how you character off, it was heartbreaking and really made you think for awhile after it. With Joel it somewhat made me not sad but angry at how they treated him like garbage. Another example is jesse, I thought he was a okay character but a little mellow and not much personality, but an alright side character. Then for Abby just to kill him like that, all of that development for nothing, he is barely even mentioned for the rest of the game. And oh boy, the part I HATED the most about this game was how you had to play as Abby. NO ONE WANTS TO PLAY AS THE PERSON WHO TORTURED AND KILLED JOEL. And to extend it for 10+ hours?!? I mean come on, everyone I have seen play the game hated the part with Abby. For me, I was bored and hated her so much. The whole time you play as her you know what's going to happen so it's boring and seems like there's no point to even playing as her. The flashback of Abby with her dad and the Firefly hospital is what only should have made it to the game because it gives us the reason Abby wanted to kill Joel. The part where you meet Yara and Lev is just boring, they have no development whatsoever and are static characters. Getting the medical supplies for Yara at the hospital and the boss fight didn't even matter because she gets sprayed with bullets by WLF soldiers. (Another example of trying to be bold and killing people.) Neil Druckmann tried to have a bold and new approach to a game, and it didn't work. I now understand why the game is divisive. My heart hurts just writing this because I waited so long just for it to be ruined. I was looking forward to this for years. I remember how excited I was to learn that I was going to play in Seattle because I live in Washington. The part where I got to Seattle I was just bored. All you do in Seattle is just kill WLF and Seraphites. Lastly, the ending. Oh man this was just horribly executed. You leave your family and basically your kid to go find and kill Abby, but then just to not kill her? Like... what?!? Why? What is even the point of having this in the game? It doesn't make sense. When you come back to the farm after sadly sparing Abby, Dina and her kid is gone. You did all that and lost 2 fingers to lose the only thing you had left. God this game just broke me in a bad way. I know this is bold, but I want there to be a Part 3. And not to just continue the story, but to do this game justice. But the way the reviews are going I highly doubt this will happen. Neil Druckmann if you are reading this, you tarnished my, and MANY others used to be favorite franchise. It breaks my heart so much to wait so long for something so disappointing.… Expand

Everyone even the main character of Ellie is portrayed as being wholly monsters and for some of the previous characters who were established and beloved in part one they make choices that are counter to everything we know them to be. Many choices taken by them serve to only push the next plot point forward regardless if its something they actually would have done which is a huge no-no when it comes to writing well thought out character development. Quite Frankly the handling of the legacy characters of this franchise leaves much to be desired and thats my main take away. The last of Us 2 leaves a lasting feeling of leaving to much to be desired, things you felt never should have happened to or with the majority of its cast. Where as the first game had little rays of hope and light in this game there exist none. Its one bleak depressing slog from start to finish. Playing as the games new co protagonist Abby was one of my personal worst experiences in gaming after some of the egregious acts she partakes in. The continued forcing to switch to her really hurt my overall gaming experience. I simply did not like this character for her actions and there was nothing that could make me like her after what she does. She came across as the games clear cut villain and it was never going to go over well with the majority of gamers to be forced to play with her in this game. She will go down as one of the most polarizing hated characters in gaming history. Overall The Last of Us 2 outstanding presentation, accessibility, and character design can not make up for such a poorly executed story. I wanted to love this game as much as I did the first but I just generally had one of the worst game experiences of my gaming lifetime.… Expand

    Gameplay- About the same. Moving things around to get from place to place replaced with jump. Story- Pretty much uprooted the first game, put into a fire pit, and burned. The characters are turned 180 degrees and pretty much unnoticeable. Post apocalyptic doesn't mean anything in this game. It has gone from a game of survival in which you need to survive with wits into a revenge plot that makes characters unlikable to the point of setting down your controller and returning the game.     I hate giving this game a bad review I hate it so much cause the first game is one of my favorite if not my most favorite game of all time.

    The game looks wonderful, the gameplay isnt much different other than a few small things added like a new jumping mechanic and some stuff you can do with a rope, the voice acting is still astounding as is any cinematic game put out by Naughty Dog. There are some new enemy types and instead of fireflies and cannibals you have WLF (wolves) and cultist. So the the only real thing that has been improved on is the graphics.

    Now the story and the characters...that's a complete other matter, and I will say first of Joel dies am I happy about it, no. Did I expect it, yes. The main issue I have with is the way the story is presented to you makes absolutely no sense, and characters that are one note and easily forgettable. The daughter, Abby, of the doctor in the first game goes after joel which waaaaay across the country so it like looking for a very specific needle in a Grand Canyon full of needles, but she finds him actually he falls into her lap saving her life. Then after that Joel and Tommy throw complete caution to the wind and tell them their names and where they are staying, which is completely out of character for both of them to just trust people that they have met. If you are going to kill off Joel at least have it make sense. After a short romp with Ellie as she goes throw the list of people that were there taking them out, you switch over to Abby, and play with her and what she was doing during this time that Ellie was killing her friends. The thing is though at this point in the game you have so much hate for Abby that this pointless bit trying to get you to sympathize with her just doesnt work. By the point I literally dont care and only want her dead. I dont care about her, her friends or the dogs at all. But they make you play as her, beat the hell out of Ellie, bite her fingers off and damn near kill Ellie's girlfriend. They try even more to get you to sympathize with her by making her take on kind of a "Joel" role when she is taking care of this kid turning against her own people doing so, but I just couldnt care less about her or her struggles. And by the end she and the kid are left for dead hanging from poles, but Ellie finds them, cuts them down and proceeds to have one last fight with Abby in which she wins but right before she is about to deal the killing blow she stops........becaaaaause reasons? So the cycle will stop? Whatever. I wanted this game solely for the story, not the graphics not the gameplay, the voice acting helps but wasnt the most important. The story! And when you deliver one that is completely nonsensical as this, someone dropped the ball somewhere Dr. Uckmann. I just cant recommend this game to anyone who fell in love with story and the characters of the original.

    The graphics are amazing, Story is really good, the combat is a little more better than the first, while it would be nice if it was expanded a little more, the Characters seem pretty fleshed out and like the first game, it gives you back ground information about the world and characters around you. the Flaw may be with the AI's

    I will not Spoil anything about the game. The game does have mature visuals, reason its a 18 (mature) so if your not comfortable with that, then this game isn't really for you, if you love semi open areas to explore with amazing technical marvel graphics and gorgeous visuals then sure explore with your hearts content, spend more time exploring, get details of the back story just like the first one did, you can also find optional Scenes scattered around and talkative dialog here and there too, the game has a lot of good in it, the only Bad thing i would say honestly is the AI, its still not as good, but it is better than the first game, well the allied AI is. The Game has some sexual content in it, it is a 18 so of course its allowed, just sort of wish, in my opinion, the weed scene (no spoilers) was more intimate though, don't really mind scenes like this as long as its to expand on the Characters themselves and not just there for a 'SJW' or 'Woke' reason.

    Why My Score?
    Well simple, because Everything, in my opinion, is Really well made. The game looks and feels great and with some improvements the game could be a perfect game. Note, 10 doesn't mean it is perfect because there is never a perfect product. The final score am giving it just means i would recommend it to others and think it can be the best game of the year (so far).

    Edit: No game this amazing looking Deserves a 0 score, the graphics alone could give at least a 6, even if you hate the game you cant believe that it Deserves no score on how gorgeous it looks but most reviews I've seen rates it unfairly, slapping it with a bad score with no reason but a line, that is not a fair score, i personally rather see what people think about the whole game not the first hour of it and i rather be honest as possible when am Recommending games to others. The game doesn't have a online competitive mode, it doesn't have loot boxes and it doesn't have shady practices so its a win for me no matter how bad the story gets, its still an amazing looking game with really good single player aspects to it.    … Expand

Con el tema de la inclusión no hay problema aunque abusaron un poco con el tema, no es lo que lo hace malo. Lo que lo hace malo es la historia que es un cliché el tema de la venganza, no hacia falta arruinar a un buen juego por algo tan básico y conocido.
    Como juego puede ser muy buen juego pero no como the last of us, si tanto querían hacer un juego con esa narrativa (que no es mala) pero para T.L.O.U queda chica, hubieran echo otro juego con otro nombre y personajes, pero jugaron con el nombre y populismo que obtuvo el primero para hacer esto que no quedo bien y es lo tanto molesta, porque the last of us fue es y será ampliamente superior al nivel narrativo que es lo que tanto lo hizo destacar al nombre.    … Expand

Showing the warm relationship between the two main protagonists that we hugely got attracted to them and having a lot of strong scenes and plot twists that will never be forgotten.
    Unlike Part 2 that lacks a lot of feelings and only focuses on one main thing that is revenge, and that doesn't attract me at all cause I am not even attracted to the new characters that they've projected in the game. They are forcing the player to interact with the new characters that I personally feel no sympathy for them nor for their stories.

    I was against the idea of making a sequel out of the game from the beginning, because I knew that TLOU is just so great and is just a pure masterpiece that I think no game can ever be compared to it.
    I am really disappointed.

This is basically trauma the game, I disliked so many things its nearly impossible to list (the massive lack of any character depth stood out and shoving so many flashbacks down your throat). Acredito que apesar dos grandes pontos negativos que o jogo possui, não acho que o jogo é uma decepção porque claramente podemos ver que o jogo mostra que isso é a realidade, personagens que nos amamos como o Joel não deixam de ser humanos o jogo trata claramente uma história de vingança mas o jogo mostra outras coisas além da historia devemos levar em consideração que o jogo não tem gráficos,sons,jogabilidade,ambientação ruins.Estamos tristes com a morte do Joel porque estamos acostumados com o personagem em minha opinião o jogo teria três grandes pontos negativos, a morte do Joel, a história que trata uma vingança, e o fato de controlar uma personagem que queremos muito ver morta mas o jogo mostra que a família dos personagens que o Joel matou não deixaram isso para traz o que é o caso da Abby que definitivamente sofreu muito pelas ações ofensivas tomadas pelo Joel, então o jogo quer nos mostrar que apesar de amarmos o Joel e a Ellie ambos são seres humano e que as famílias das pessoas que deixamos mortas não esqueceram o que aconteceu por mim o jogo recebe essa nota porque apesar do jogo ter esses pontos negativos o jogo nos trás sentimentos e ideis que nunca iremos esquecer Obrigado… Expand

Yes Joel dies but that is a new journey for Ellie who was under his protection from the beginning. Yes she doesn't kill Abby but that means she got over Joel and she doesn t want to follow his ways. Joel killed the fireflies and saved Ellie but she wants to be different. Also this game was supposed to be about Ellie not the both of them. Also if girl on girl action is not for you than you shouldn't play this game or get to this year' this is a normal thing now.… Expand

The first one is still my favorite game ever. It’s flawless. This is trash. I don’t care that Ellie is gay or what happens to Joel. That all makes sense. I hope whoever was involved with the production of the storyline of this game is all alone in an empty room when they die.     The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
