The game as amazing from the gameplay to the story, which was quite honestly exceptional. When I finished the game it took me over a week to get over it and process everything...when a game makes you cry, you know they did something right. Kudos to Naughty Dog for creating one of the greatest games ever and they should ignore the hate coming from a bunch of morons that have the emotional/intellectual maturity of a 6 year old. After playing Ghosts of Tsushima I thought it would be hard for any game to effect me so emotionally but TLOU 2 out did even GOT so again, kudos to the developers for creating a generational game that rivals the Witcher 3. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last Of Us 2 is a visually stunning and exciting game that could have been a straight 10/10 if not for the writers sacrificing a solid plot for the sake of a forced LGBT narrative. And I think this is quite poorly integrated and so detracts from the flow that was created in the first game. My annoyance at story elements in the game was such that I was inclined to want to score it 0, but while Joel is disappointingly killed early on, his and Ellie’s story is continued through flashbacks which are poignant. If they wanted to create an LGBT narrative it may have worked well in a subsequent title, but largely throwing the Joel and Ellie narrative in the bin in favour of new characters who we are set up to despise from the outset was a poor creative choice by Naughty Dog. It’s comparable to killing Daniel Larusso or Rocky off in the sequels to their classic movies and expecting us to enjoy watching the rest when it’s about characters that killed our heroes - it would make no sense and would kill all hope and desire for subsequent instalments.

In terms of scoring this, I gave 5/5 for the graphics, game mechanics, and level design. For the story I give it 2/5 since it’s like a heavily diluted version of that which I eagerly anticipated and expected. Still, the devs made an extraordinary amount of money from this game and so perhaps they don’t mind having thrown their credibility in the toilet. I will not be watching the upcoming series nor playing any more games from this company.

Oh well. The first game was great.

This game is a masterpiece, nice graphic, story and characther. Even though the ending of the scene is not very satisfying, the gameplay is very satisfying and interesting, telling the meaning of revenge and regret that never ends. And as a result of that we lose the people we love.

It was the fourth time I've played it through and I thought I'd overdone it by playing it again but I was blown away by the pacing and story telling yet again. It is easily the best story game ever made, even now.

Any chance of this game succeeding ended immediately when Joel was killed. The original game is basic copy of Die Hard: an extremlely determined tough guy (with the help of Ellie) overcomes enormous odds to deliver a young girl to a hospital to save the world. That's pure entertainment.

The sequel to this game would be to do something similar. That's the expectation people have for a sequel. Somebody needs to tell Naughty Dog this. What we have here it the equivalent of John McClane taking a bullet in the first 5 minutes of Die Hard 2 and his wife going on a rampage through the streets of New York killing every single person just to get to the one bad dude who killed McClane. After 20 hours you flip to play Hans Gruber for a further 20 hours and by the end you love Hans Gruber and hate John McClane. Yep, that's the story in a nutshell. And yes, it fails miserably.

    Postitives
    - The best visual design and graphics I've seen in a game
    - Incredible motion capture
    - Set-pieces. There's some really cool events that really keep you on your toes.
    - Flash backs to earlier times. It reminds you why you loved the first game, but makes me sad that they still had the skills to make a great sequel but chose not to.

    Negatives
    - Narrative. It's long, slow and dumb. They try to convince you that one or the other character is good, the short of it is that you're falling and out of love with mass murdering psychopaths. The game is meant to be cheese, if you take it seriously as a form of art then you're sympathising with murderers.
    - Characters. They're unlikeable and miserable.
    - Art Direction. Ellie and Joel have become considerably uglier, is there some kind of new virus making people ugly?
    - Length. It's 4 times longer than it should have been. This game could have been released years ago had someone looked up the definition of "editing". I feel sorry for the software developers who spent years of their lives meticulously crafting abandoned environments, they did a fantastic job. It's such a shame they were let down by the top man.
    - The new "dodge" mechanism. It doesn't work properly, you still get hit even when dodging. The directions for how to use it are misleading. It's utterly infuriating to fight characters using it. I punched my controller into a chair in frustration while repeatedly dying from it. I haven't done this since I was a teenager (which was a long time ago). I wasn't expecting this shoddiness.
    - FPS. It has frame rate issues (on the standard console version). This isn't something I recall seeing in a Naughty Dog game, and it's just sloppy. It breaks the 4th wall everytime it happens and it destroys the immersion.
    - Gameplay. The game is too difficult in Normal mode, I died probably 100 times in the playthrough. When you do succeed it feels like a fluke. The guitar feature is trash, how can I play a guitar skilfully with one big dumb ass button?

This game teaches a good moral lesson. Don't pre-order games!
This game isn't enjoyable. Please cannon this story or move on to something else ND!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After the end of the first part, I felt the finished story, so I didn't think there would be a second part. At the time of the announcement of the game in 2016, i was still delighted with this, and waited for the release of the game, periodically replaying the first part. knowing how they like to post various rumors, I avoided all information about the game in order to dive into the game on my own. In the first hours, I got an unexpected pain from the plot twist, but continued the game, I wanted to understand that everything was not done in vain, and everything has a logical development. Unfortunately, my hopes were dashed. The illogicality of actions began with the behavior of Joel, who changed in character and now trusts the first person who comes across and tells all the information about himself: where he lives, what he and his brother do, what their names are, although it is obvious that nobody in this world can no longer be trusted if you never knew him. As a result, the character of both Joel and Ellie changed. The supporting characters are just dummies, without an interesting story and any logical actions.
Especially pleased with the pregnant doctor, who has nothing to do and she went to fight in the last month, just delirium. Already now it is difficult for me to continue to write a review, with each written word I am more and more in pain from what continuation they made on the first game.

And I’d absolutely hate it if the game did this. But I just don’t see any indication of that. Game is great. However, at the midway point about 10-11 hours in, it started to lose me. There’s a cliffhanger and then you’re playing Abby’s side of the story for the next 8-10 hours which slowly began to kill it for me. 2 hours was okay, but then the story began to revolve around new characters you had to help for some reason, which annoyed me as at that point I just wanted the game to reach it’s end. I’d give the game 8/10, as it was still great, but for me around 8-10 hours to long which drags score down. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me start off by saying that I, like many here was a huge fan of the first game. I have been looking forward to this game for years and avoided any spoilers that came out. With that said, The Last of Us Part 2 is a beautiful looking game, the graphics, environments, and fight sections are extremely well done. The Flashbacks with Ellie and Joel were great, especially the museum sequence. The voice acting is also great for the most part. HOWEVER, this games biggest downfall is it’s pacing, the story absolutely fails to make you sympathize with Abby after she murders Joel. Which in its own right doesn’t even make much sense with how it happens, but I digress. The fact that the game constantly pulls you out of climax moments for flashbacks just completely takes away from the pacing of the story. By the time I played Abbys half of the story and was seeing her flashbacks with the WLF and Owen and Mel, I found myself really disconnected because I had already killed them as Ellie several hours before. It would have made more sense to me to play as Abby first, or at least play as Ellie for a day and then Abby. I completely understand why Abby killed Joel, was it justified? In this world I’d say yeah probably, Joel killed plenty of people for less, however if you’re going to do that and then make me play as his killer you’ve got to set it up in a better way than was shown here. The supporting characters were all fine, none of them really seemed to be given much time to shine though, I did really like Jesse and Dina and even Owen, but again, really hard to connect with him when I knew he was already dead. Lev and Yara were also fine, but not given a ton to do, you go on a fetch quest to save Yara that took an hour only for her to die almost immediately after so that was fun. I also think the ending was way too drawn out, I’m not even upset Ellie didn’t kill Abby in the end, although I think it probably would’ve made more sense. But introducing a whole new faction at the end of the game and fighting through hordes of them just to save Abby to fight her, when for all Ellie knows she’s already dead just didn’t make much sense to me. Anyway in conclusion, I don’t think this is the worst game ever made, not at all, this game does some things so right, but the pacing of the story make it such a slog to play at times. In the end I probably won’t replay this one, but if you catch a good sale it’s worth checking out at least for the gameplay. Expand

I think what would really please the current community is making a part where Joel and Ellie are the main characters, because that's all everybody wants, a Joel and Ellie adventure. Its timeline should be right before Ellie learns how to play guitar, When Joel plays the Future Days song and tells her that; I believe, I believe cause I can see, Our future days, Days of you and me. That's why this part should be called Future Days and it should start from there and end at the death of Joel, And maybe they should jump to the fight scene between Ellie and Aby (the one at the end). And maybe they should give an option to kill Aby this time and see which players will choose revenge for Joel, And which will forgive Aby and let her go just like she did with them. Anyways its just a thought, I hope Naughty Dog sees this and considers at least thinking about a part called Future Days.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us — Part II is the most profoundly human, viscerally violent, lachrymose game I have ever played. It is tied together with beautiful graphics, immersive gameplay, and a stellar soundtrack. In my life, few games have caused me to reflect so deeply on the motivations of characters, and displayed such realism depicting their deaths. It is as controversial as it is beloved, but I will express why, in my opinion, this game is so noteworthy.

While The Last of Us struggled somewhat with lackluster gameplay, it’s sequel corrects all the original’s shortcomings. While some gameplay aspects remain, such as the scavenging and required stealth, many things have been adjusted and tweaked for a better overall experience. Combat is more fluid and responsive, with breathtaking animation for all the characters that adds to the immersion. A few mechanics have been added, including the ability to prone. This new ability allows you to hide under gaps in buildings and military trucks, amongst other things. Another new addition is a dedicated doge button. When fully mastered, players can dodge and counter an enemy’s attack, cause devastating blows which add a sense of desperation to each attack. The most notable tweak, however, is the shooting mechanic. Shooting now feels more refined, and hit and kill indicators have been added. As a whole, where the gameplay felt repetitive in the original, it now feels more fully realized, refined, and mature; it’s been polished with a shiny, new veneer.

Moving on, what would this game be without a good narrative? As always, Naughty Dog displays their masterful story telling. Once again, you’re introduced to Ellie, who is now older and more mature. In contrast to the first game, you now play as her through the majority of the game. She has settled into a semi-idealistic lifestyle in Jackson. Though she retains some of her iconic cheerful, quirky banter, you find that she’s grown into a quieter, more reserved adult (perhaps from her emotional traumas). Halfway through the game, you learn it is a story told in parallels between Ellie and her counterpart, Abby.

Abby is similar to Ellie in almost all regards. Like Ellie, she is a survivor hellbent on revenge. Robbed of someone once close to her, she would sacrifice anything to avenge their murder, and she does. It is this act of revenge that propels the story onwards; and brings Ellie to her hometown of Seattle, Washington. Here, the two eventually battle one another. Because of their similarities, their fight is extremely painful to watch — and even more painful to play through.

Sadly, both characters have wonderful character traits; even sadder, they both have abysmal flaws. Both characters are extremely loyal to their loved ones to a fault — literally, as both go to great lengths
to avenge the murders of their respective loved ones. Ellie’s biggest flaw stems from the guilt of being “saved” by Joel. Her counterpart’s stems from the devastation of losing loved ones. Throughout the game, countless lives are lost in seemingly pointless deaths. The dark reality of these deaths is that they’re caused by the shared blind loyalty both characters have. It is simultaneously their greatest strength and their greatest flaw. It is, as established in the previous game, the same corrupt love that propelled Joel’s selfish decision to save Ellie (blinding him to all the countless lives that would be lost). Overall, it’s story carefully tackles heavy themes of revenge, hatred, and the intoxicatingly self-destructive nature of violence. In conclusion, this is, arguably, the most thought-provoking game ever made. With new polished gameplay mechanics, it feels like the older brother to its predecessor. Its story constantly challenges its player to question motives, to abhor the violence its player is committing, and to challenge the desensitized nature of violence in video games. It is a game that stays with you long after you finish it, and it has enough replay value for you to play multiple times. In conclusion, this game is a masterpiece chalk full of Naughty Dog’s artistry and attention to detail both in fidelity and moral ambiguity. It’s story is as tragic as it is brutal, and it is an immaculate vision executed with near perfection; a truly worthy sequel.

Its the Walking Dead but the zombies have mushrooms on them and is packed with modern day politics. If you enjoyed the first game, believe that it deserved more content, expect to play the additional content with no hopes of closure to the mushroom zombie apocalypse, want to play a game that the mushroom zombies have become second fiddle to the human on human drama (such as sexual preference as opposed to are we going to be killed today by **** zombies), are into playable movies, and a game that like Duke nukem forever took way too long to come out and completely missed its hype train, beautiful graphics that are on par with every other ps4 triple a game, being mislead to think you will continue to play with the same character from the first game to find out you play 12 hours of the game as the man woman, and is riddled with plot holes: then this game is for you. Even still, its not worth $60. I stand strong with the "$1 per hour up to $60" law. And that includes replay hours. Its a 25-30 hour 4 part dlc that derails from the story and has been made into child's play thanks to the dodge button. Im actually pissed off that I had to delete Modern Warfare to install this. If you've ever played a Telltales game, then you know exactly what to expect in terms of gameplay. As for the "open world" aspect, please don't fall for that **** either. The biggest area you encounter is like a downtown area, and you can explore the surrounding buildings on set routes because most of everything is "blocked off" by rubble and clutter. The best way to describe this snooze fest is Telltales Walking Dead on Monster with mushroom walkers and a dodge button. In 16 hours of play time, you spend 3 of it in flashbacks. I haven't made it to the Abbey part, but I've heard its on par with playing as Raiden in Metal Gear Solid 2 for the next 12 hours of the game. If you've played MGS2, then you understand and appreciate that comparison. Get gamefly, borrow it off a friend, or wait for a price drop. They've lifted the ban on returning the game, and those that haven't destroyed their physical copies are returning it already, in waves. Play it for yourself and find out. It truly is a spectacle, if youre not a gamer. If you are a gamer, its just another boring game. Keep your politics out of our games, its where we go to escape your politics :) Expand

It makes me very sad that a TLOU part two, has been stained with changing everything iconic done by the previous title.

That in no media they dared to say the name of one of the protagonists, since they knew that she would be responsible for all the aforementioned controversy. It is more than clear that those ten were not given in an honest way. A real shame, I wouldn't want that

this game is simply incredible. The story is well written and gripping, engaging your intellect and emotions straight from the beginning. you come to love, and hate, some characters, and then suddenly you are thrust into a place where suddenly all your preconceived notions are challenged. Which is why many cant handle this game. Myopia, as I said.
    The graphics are absolutely jaw-dropping.

The graphics are absolutely jaw-dropping. I find myself using photo-mode almost equally as much as playing the actual game. near photorealism in many places. the combat is fluid and smart, with the AI intelligence increasing with higher difficulty levels. the attention to detail is ridiculous. believe me you will see what I mean if you play the game. Many details you would never expect {lol} have been included. Tiny spoiler, the zombies have bushes, and miniscule anatomic details XD. The way the elements and your character interact are also amazing. Water, snow, mud, grass, trees, all react realistically with each-other. This seriously looks like it could be a PS5 game.
The sound is phenomenal. You can actually pinpoint where sounds are coming from, particularly with the 7.1 surround headphones. The dialogue between characters is smart, believable, and not cheeseball at all.
Replayability is high thanks to fantastic gameplay and a multitude of modes, options, and accessibility features. Im on my 3rd playthrough myself.
if you are on the fence about getting this game, give it a chance. If you have any degree of intellect you'll probably love it.

Unfortunately, despite the brilliant technical work that Naughty Dog's team has accomplished, the narrative is where this game completely fails. As a standalone work, the story is poorly structured, predictable in all the worst ways, and bloated. However as a sequel to the Last of Us, it is simply insulting.

Throughout this game, all three of the returning main characters from the Last of Us will be mutilated, disfigured, or unceremoniously killed. They will make choices that not only seem inconsistent with their characters from the previous game, but also inconsistent with their own motivations within this game. The supporting cast is a parade of forgettable new characters who are violently traumatized, or abruptly killed and discarded.

The narrative structure is a mess of unnecessary flashbacks, flashbacks within flashbacks, pointless drama, and personal subplots that go nowhere. The story is blatantly designed to shift our sympathy towards our new protagonist, Abby, and her supporting cast. However, not only does Abby mutilate and kill our favorite characters from the first game, she is also a sadist who delights in the torture and degradation of her enemies, expresses excitement at the idea of killing a pregnant woman, and has sex with her ex boyfriend who is married and has a baby on the way with Abby's other friend Mel. These acts make her completely unlikable, and make the contrived "redemption arc" of her story feel unearned and unbelievable.

All in all, this game is a boring, bloated slog, with characters that feel hollow and a plot that could best be described as laughably depressing. It destroys the protagonists that we know and love while offering nothing of value to replace them.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If the game was supposed to make me miserable and angry, it succeeded. That’s not how I felt playing the last of us 1, and it wasn’t what I expected from a sequel. They can call it artistic, but it doesn’t change the fact that I didn’t like it and I cannot recommend it. Large sections are just walking simulators, the stealth and gunplay gets repetitive quickly, and there is very little innovation from the first game. It is one of the only games I’ve played through where I can honestly say that I was bored for a majority of it. Pair this with a story that is predictable at its best moments and rage inducing at its worst. Joel was never a hero, but the choice that he made at the end of the first game, at least in my opinion, was the correct one. I feel insulted by this games repeated attempts to vilify Joel for his actions. Even if Ellie could die for a cure, that was not the fireflies’ choice to make, and he was acting to protect someone he loved. Even if Ellie wanted to sacrifice herself, without a guarantee of a cure, she would basically be committing suicide. Joel’s only fault was lying to Ellie about it, and he did that to protect her from the guilt. I don’t mind Joel dying, but saying that he deserved it is ridiculous. Abby’s actions, meanwhile, are completely unforgivable, and then the game spends hours trying to make you sympathize with her. She is irredeemable, but the game insists that she is redeemed by the end and deserves to live. The theme of revenge being bad is not innately awful, but it is most definitely played out and predictable, and this game has little else to offer. Honestly, the game would be vastly improved with only a few changes, which only makes its failures more infuriating. More than anything else, I hate that they ruined my memory of the first game. There did not need to be a sequel. If this was a standalone game, and not a sequel, I might have liked it better. My expectations would have been lower, at least. Truthfully, I would give this game a score of 4, the lowest score I would give any game I’ve ever finished, but I am giving it a 1, simply because of the number of people rating it highly to superficially raise the score. There may be some haters who are bigots, but that should not take away from genuine criticism. There are idiots on both sides. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Greetings from Russia.

I quitted playing video games 4 years ago due to work and lack of time. The last thing I played was the first part of TLoU and as 99% of all us I loved the characters and the game itself, every time I remember its plot and my gaming experience of It I get warm feelings in my heart. As soon I finished the first part, sold my PS 3 I decided to 100% buy a new upcoming console to play TLoU 2 when it comes out, I haven’t thought about and waited for other games than TLoU 2 since then.

August 2020, I am old as **** 26 years, childhood and uni years are far away from where I am now, responsibilities, bills to cover, work that I do not enjoy. Anyway, I specially took a vacation for 3 weeks, bought the latest Sony 4k screen and PS 4 Pro - TLoU 2 edition. Unboxing felt so amazing, I got tears in my eyes for such a sentimental moment, the kid that slept inside me for years was so happy.

The start of the game is great, the graphics are amazing and I feel so excited to be back with the characters that lived in my heart for all these years: Joel and Ellie. I expect that for the next couple of days there will be only me and their new adventure, no outer world, but me reflecting on the cool plot twists, dying supporting characters and the **** realistic human nature at the time of the crisis.

I saw trailers with Ellie laying down in blood,
she promises to kill ‘em all and I was 100% sure that she will take revenge for her new girlfriend. As most of you I was so shocked that Joel is was being killed so ruthlessly and the first signs of the emptiness inside started to echo my heart. The fact that I played for Abby in the beginning was not a coincidence and I prayed that I wouldn’t have to do it again later in my walkthrough. Next 11 or 12 hours were great. I didn’t have any feeling of mercy while killing dogs and screaming friend’s names people because to the same extent as Ellie loved Joel, same did I and I wanted to take revenge and hoped everything is finished with the death of this ugly Abby character, i don’t buy this ‘eye for an eye and the world is blind’ thing, all of us in such conditions as Ellie are able to kill for our beloved ones and don’t regret while taking revenge.

But it went as it went and when after a cutscene in the theatre the control is given back to Abby I realized that the next 11-12 hours I must learn her side of the story, play for her and feel sorry for her because I knew that the game requires 25 hours in total. The problem is I DON’T GIVE A **** ABOUT HER STORY, MOTIVATION, FRIENDS, FATHER, BOYFRIEND, DOG, HULK HANDS, FEELINGS, VOICE AND SO ****ING ON. All those people deserve to die. So the game after this becomes some kind of a torture untill the very last levels where Ellie is back at your control, the boy with arrows as a partner of Abby causes more sympathy than her, but he is not a ‘game changer’.

In the end Ellie doesn’t kill Abby, she leaves her to go and comes back to the house left by her stupid girlfriend.

TO SAY THAT I WAS PISSED IS TO SAY NOTHING. JUST SIMULTANEOUS EMPTINESS INSIDE MY HEART. Even when I walke through the first Ellie’s half of the game for the second time. Expectations that lasted for several years were ruined and I drank 2 bottles of vodka not because I am Russian on the vacation, I drink once in 2-3 months, but to silence the pain caused by the plot of the TLoU 2.

5 vodkas out 10, now I need to sell my PS 4 Pro and hope that in 7 years I ll be still there to play PS 5 PROTURBOMEGADRIVE HD THE LAST OF US PART 3 ABBY **** BURNS IN HELL LIMITED EDITION. Stay strong comrades.

However, the more you play, the more the game trailers turn out to be fake. In the middle of the game you get to control the character you don't even care about and actually want her to die. All the joy is gone and it's just mindless rushing to the end of the level. What's worse, it has never been stated in trailers until the plot leak. Naughty Dog edited the trailers so as they do not resemble the actual game plot at all. I feel personally insulted with the way the developers advertised the game and the terrible abomination they finally delivered. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Firstly, I can understand why people disliked the game: there were some obvious continuity errors with certain characters and some character decisions were questionable given their previous actions in the first game. As well as that, the killing spree that Ellie goes on after the introduction could have been adjusted to fit better with the ending; it didn't really make sense for Ellie to do what she did in the end given everything she had done in the lead-up to it.
However, the story in itself whilst emotionally harrowing and uncomfortable to say the least, did achieve Naughty Dog's goal (which they were vocal about well before release). The ideas of the cycle of violence through the search for revenge was really well developed and was really effective. The attempt to end this cycle at the end of the game was handled poorly in the terms of player satisfaction, but really well in terms of demonstrating the impacts of endless violence and how Ellie actually achieved her greatest fear "of ending up alone."
Player satisfaction is obviously one of the most important points when critiquing a game and clearly there were some problems here, however they all served to further the story and Naughty Dog's goal. The improved gameplay mechanics and stunning graphics coupled with brutal gore and realism made for a really exciting, shocking and gruesome playthrough. The way that the different difficulties allowed for more versatility in gameplay and encounter options was really awesome and made re-playing the game on different difficulties really enjoyable. All of these features of the gameplay (graphics, realism, gore and mechanics) all served a purpose in Naughty Dog's overarching goal, and, coming to understand that, made the game more enjoyable because I was able to recognise the importance of my actions and the significance of the storyline.
The new (and old) characters that were introduced in the game were for the most part fleshed out and developed quite well. Ellie's companions, Dina and Jesse, were really well made characters who i was able to care for and feel emotionally attached to. Abby was a really surprising and rather difficult character to play as on my first playthrough. I thought that she was developed well, however it was still very difficult to get over what she had done in the beginning. Abby's friends, on the other hand seemed a bit rushed and unimportant to me. I didn't feel much connection to them when playing as both Ellie and Abby, their deaths were kind of dry and meaningless, with the only really impactful deaths being that of Owen and Mel. Even still, both of these characters were quite forgettable in my opinion, with their deaths only being impactful due to the significance of the pregnancy to both Ellie and Abby.
The environments and enemy factions were really awesome and well developed, with really interesting lore available to be found around the world. The gameplay environments for both characters were also really nicely made, however I kind of felt like Abby's portion of the game had more big set-pieces and exciting battles and events. I felt like this was a bit forced and stinted as it almost seemed like Abby's portion of the game was designed to be fun and memorable so that players would begin to like her character more. If this was the case then I would say that it backfired because it became kind of obvious and repetitive, making me almost like Abby less because i knew that she was being appeased by the developers.
Finally, a major problem for me was the way that Joel was killed off. Before the release I had kept away from the spoilers, but just from the trailers I knew that something big was going to happen to Joel and Ellie. The brutality and inhumane way that Joel was killed made it much more difficult for the player to build any empathy for and relate to Abby. As a result, it was difficult to play as her because the player already hated this character. So, I think Joel's death could have been handled better by the developers, which would have made it a bit easier to play as Abby and it would have seemed less forced.
Overall, I really enjoyed the game. The story was difficult, emotional, harrowing and real, and specific events that began the game were really tough to sit through especially as a lover of the first game. The world-building, gameplay, graphics, realism and most of the characters were really well made and truly enjoyable to experience. Naughty Dog's goal was really well fleshed out and made for a really interesting and thought-provoking story, however the ending did feel a bit forced and disappointing. I recommend the game, but make sure that you are open-minded and prepared for more than just your normal video game. It was much more philosophical and thought-provoking than I anticipated, and i loved it!

I would have preferred a relative of Marlene from the first game hunt down Joel, not a daughter of a very minor character from the first game. When the audience considers the carefully written character arch from the first game, any character in part two that kills a character from part one should be immediately be made a villein. Like i said before if this was the beginning to a new IP for ND the story would have made you ask the questions it intended to ask. However, after the death of Joel, that person became the bad guy. Where the story fails is in its persistence to make Abby (lady that killed Joel) seem to be a hero. When in reality most the audience members believe her to be wickedly evil for brutally murdering him in front of his only living daughter. the reason this game get a four is for the amount of detail, polish, and overall finish the game appears to have in every aspect but the story. And with ND games Story is half the rating. In summary the story of part two disgraces the first game all the while maintaining a very good game play experience throughout the entire game. Expand

I had no issue with the LGBQT+ characters in the game, I actually think it’s a great idea and wish there were more characters like this in games. But not even the great graphics and game play could save this game for me. The story was messy, poorly planned and executed. Fans of the original were spat on in an attempt to impress critics, when critics are not the ones who love the game and pour money into naught dogs pockets, fans who purchase the books, clothes and all other merchandise were attacked by the writers of Tlou 2 in pursuit of acclaim from people not apart of the wider fan base, I can’t stress that enough. Crowbarring Abbys narrative down our throats with out ultimately giving the player the choice to forgive or not, then forcing us to watch our beloved heroin who did not start the events that lead to her wanting revenge, broken and mutilated while Abby who is the instigator and murder rides off into the sunset with a friend and a new purpose. Saving a little trans boy (which I have not problem with and think the inclusion of is fantastic) does not excuse the fact that she murdered a man in cold blood with a golf club. We loved Joel nothing Abby does can change that and her story was always going to be total trash no matter what, she could of been a good character, but the ways she was included and written was doomed to fail. You don’t watch lord of the rings and cheer for the orcs, did they learn nothing from the game of thrones finale. Fans don’t want the moral garbage they handed us in TLOU 2 we wanted to see the story of the characters we love not ransoms who come in at the last minute. I mean you only play as Abby for the second part of the game! We have already played played an entire Joel and half a game as Abby Joel did what he did for love Abby blind revenge and she herself admitted to murdering people in Boston I’m sure they had families too. The story was just frustrating and ultimately the characters we love we spat on. I was left with a bad taste in my mouth after playing this. The only thing this game has going for itself is the game-play mechanics and graphics. This game is extremely bad otherwise. The story is awful. There is no character development. Plot armor. Story > identity politics.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Overall, doesn't hold a candle to the original game in terms of story BUT I do appreciate how they make you see the other side for once.
I even came to somewhat like Abby by the end of her little bit. Still, not a great sequel.

Naughty dog was somehow able to make you relate to, and start to understand and empathize with the antagonist who did the worst thing imaginable. The gameplay is bar none. The realism in every aspect of this game is completely unparalleled. And the attention to detail is incredible. If you can't handle a video game character's death then don't play video games. Expand

The fact there was no story leading up to Joel's bloody murder from a angry women with a golf club, was enough for me to not give this more then a 1. They had opportunities to better the story/connection between Joel and his murderer. If they did this I would have e maxed out my rating for this game. This game does this poorly. Shame... because i love the first game. The way this game ends makes Ellies journey feel unnecessary and pointless. The story means EVERYTHING in these kind of games! GET THIS INTO YOUR HEADS!! Neil Druckman went for the "Im gonna do something provokative therefore i am a genious" way of deciding where to take the story. This is lacy writing and thats why people are making parallels to the last jedi.

You cant hide the fact that you cant write a good story by adding shock value.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I thought this game is really really great. It is worth 10/10. Wonderful story, but I think, the story is not for everyone.

Here my explanation, the story is full of desolating things even the ending is not a happy ending, and this is why I said that this game is not for everyone. This game want to deliver another perspective of gaming, a different point of view of vengeance and of course this game want us to feel devastated, sad even until the end of the game. From the beginning how Joel was dead until the last conversation of Ellie and Joel in the very end of the game. It was so devastating. That's why I think many people didn't like about this game.

How the story made Ellie didn't kill Abby is one of good - weird things that the director wanted to share with us, I think because if Abby is dead, Lev will have a vengeance on Ellie and kill all Jackson people, and the killing never stop. And how the director bring that feeling is so wonderful.

I felt like this story really bring another hard feeling in gaming, another story that made us speechless and even cried after we finished it

The story is an absolute mess, nobody in the WLF is interesting at all they all suck and have no brains (why tf send a pregnant lady out on the frontlines in the first place). All the stuff in between big parts of the game is extremely boring and not engaging. What made the first game so special was the interesting, funny and MEANINGFUL dialogue happening throughout the story. None of that exists and part of that is because, uh idk, prolly because you killed **** Joel in the first 2 hours of the game. We never get any of those moments between Joel & Ellie and never get to see their relationship evolve. I also have never felt a game try to shove a character down my throat to get me to like her with how they did with Abby. Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
