This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is garbage. It’s a shame because Neil Druckman did an amazing job with Uncharted: 2. But let me do him a favor and give Amy Hennig the credit as she was the real brains and one thing I learned from this game, Drunkman, and feminism that I can agree with is NEVER give a man credit for a woman’s work. Glad to see Sony investing in the trash fire that is California. I hope you go bankrupt. From Jak and Daxter 3 to this garbage. I have a PS, PS2, PS3, and PS4, but the PS5 is the first Sony system I will NEVER own. I’m very pro Japan and anti American companies even as an American, but this pc culture Hollywood crap is NOT what ANY American wants to see. If Nintendo starts making more mature games and aqua teen games I will start back with them as I have a switch, but it’s PC all the way. And I’ll support Microsoft by buying an MSI computer with Ray tracing. The real XBOX6. Stop pushing a communist agenda in America. Stop Sony or we’ll have to “mess up” your country again if you catch my drift. You support communists in America maybe I’ll support communists in East Asia and buy some nike shoes so the money will fund the Chinese War Machine! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was so bad, I had to write a review.
Do you remember Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2? Last of Us II plays like Vol. 1, but face plants as it attempts to do the second half. Don’t get me wrong, they added and fixed sooo much from the first game, however, you (the player, not Ellie) are manipulated by the producers into something no one asked for. The game was great the literal first half, but the second half where you are forced to play as the antagonist whom you just spent 12 hours hating is the absolute worse. I didn’t sign up for a game where I have to play the antagonist/villain, cause that’s what she is a villain, and then face a bunch of heart pounding, saving the cat type moments, all so that I feel bad for her; that’s manipulation on a grande scale. I would have been happy just playing as Ellie for 28 hours straight, I don’t hate that they added a bunch of work characters, I liked that, but the ratio of crisis is more Abby heavy. Essentially, by the end you are not where you are suppose to be. It’s like if someone tried to describe game of thrones poorly, or try and make it the walking dead. The Last of Us II could have been a great game, they could have had the a motivation that didn’t piss off soooo many people, instead of doing what they did to Joel, Bobby, Ellie, Dina, Jesse, etc. I stopped playing half way through the second half for a month, I just couldn’t it was that disappointing. I powered through with the hope it would redeem itself, it did not. I wanted “Bloody Satisfaction” and I got a little of that with Nora, but I wanted more, I wanted a full fledge roaring rampage of revenge...instead it kinda fizzles our. Ultimately, I suggest that the head creators of this game retire in shame and disgrace.

I have already played the game 4 times, and i can assure, this game is a master piece. Even the story people hate, is just amazing.

With this review i want to explain some things people hates, and show why this game is such an incredible game.

1ST: It is something completly new. There has never been a game like this, in wich you see both sides of a story in such a deeply way. Abby story is not for people to actually like it, its purpose is to make people UNDERSTAND her, and show people that you only like Joel and Ellie because you have play with them. Abby's part is basically tlou 1 with different characters, and i can really state that if that story would have been show before abby killing joel (like in another game, lets say a: "TLOU survivors" people would say it is amazing) The thing, is that you would never like something if it has a part you really hate, and in this case, that part is Abby. And no, arguing that the her story is bad written is not real, there a real reviewers, real gamers go dedicate to analize the game, and 90% of that people say it is a good story, but the reason some people hate it is because Abby, and it is not intentional, it is something psychological, and thats what this game is about.

2nd: This games is just GREAT because it is the first game where the main character is the same as the other characters, and has the same probabilities to live. God deam this is AMAZING, it sucks that people think this is a bad aspect. They complaing saying people dies like nothing and super fast, and who the f##k in real life dies like a hero and stays alive 10 Minutes to speak its last words? NO, the world of this game is like that, you can die in a second as in real life, it is not a super hero game in wich your main character even tho he has 657381930 people shooting him an his brain out will survive, this game is REAL, it world is REAL, here, even a common solider can die as a main character, and that is amazing, because it is really awfull when you play a game and even in the most dangerous part you are sure that your main character will survive or die like a hero, now, in this game, you are really scared on dangerous parts, because anyone can die, and that is just a feeling no other game/movie has been able to transmit. And people that complain about joel death Just dont understan they are not playing a super hero game, they are playing a game that has this kind of world, you can die in 1 second, and even if you were important, life must continue, there is no time to stop and cry.

Altough, there are some parts that can be improved, non game is PERFECT 100%, i think something could be fixed is the reason why abby just leaves elllie alive, that part should have been more explained, because the reason is obvious but it should be more explained.

I think this is a 9.3- 9.4, or a 93/94 out of 100 as it is on metacritic. This is a game like no other, and i think that with time, people will really recognize this game for what it is

I personally appreciated the story and new characters so giving this game a 9 is a no brainer for me. People who hated the story still have to give it at least a 7 for its technical achievement. In conclusion, the last of us 2 is an excellent sequel that truly showcases what Naughty Dog has built over the last 15 years. My only complaints are that there is no addition of multiplayero nor any additional gameplay beyond the campaign. New game plus does provide some incentive for replayability however it does not do enough to keep one playing the game for a long time. I gave the last of us 1 a perfect 10 and though this game does not equal the charm and impact of the first, it does live up to the hype and delivers on its promise to improve upon the technical features of the first Expand

A strong followup of a classic. It matches the original in tone, story, and play. The game is a tad more visceral in its violence, but that matches the direction of the story. Much more than the original the story is complex and questions the characters actions, and the players response to them.

Most negative reviews (expect the ones about a female protagonist, and the social questions brought up in the game) seem to revolve around the story unfolding in a way they don't feel they personally would choose. I think in gaming today there are a number of games that allow the player to impact the story, and choose a direction; however that is not what this game (or the first) is. This is designed to be played as a character in a story. You sometimes find yourself agreeing and disagreeing with the actions of the characters, and you should.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. At the end of The Last of Us 1 I killed for Ellie. Me, not Joel. The doctor who was killing her for a greater good surrendered to me and I shooted at him without a second of hesitation just to save my little girl's life. Months later I was still thinking in that, asking my real self questions I've still asking sometimes. I ended loving Ellie and her relationship with Joel (me). She was my "kiddo".

Now this feeling is gone like ashes in the wind. I've witnessed her happily murder hundreds of people in a pointless journey for a fuzzy revenge proposal. I really don't care at all she being LGTBI. I strongly encourage games and movies to visibilize LGTBI people. People complaining about that are just a bunch of **** And, in the glorious first promising moments of the TLOU2, I really enjoyed the developers including such circumstance.

However, in this journey, Ellie's motivations aren't clear, the surrounding characters lack in depth and the game does not produce any emotional connection with them. The oriental you-die-for-sure guy or Ellie's partner (I didn't bother to learn their names) are just plain.

I really liked the dead of Joel in the beggining of the story. Really. I also I think is not a reason strong enough to turn my kid Ellie into the fusion of John Wick, a T-800 and some random revenge-seeker Liam Neeson's character.

Then I hated every second played with Abby. Maybe if she just have had Joel killed but not tortured... but it was way too much since the beginning. She was right in killing Joel, but I wanted her dead. Hands down.

It is like if, playing as Aragorn in the battle of the Pelenor fields, you would stop the movie for 10 hours to show the poor and pitifull youth of Sauron some years ago to empathize with him.

I'm sorry because I really tried to, but I only found TLOU2 OKish. As Game of Thrones discovered one year ago, bad and rushed storytelling could ruin the best of the plots.

Oh, and I hated, REALLY HATED to must kill the dogs and the few enemies that surrendered to me.

    A Disaster In Narrative Storytelling

During my play-through not once did I ever come across a single compelling character. The only emotion the game evoked was regret, for wasting my money.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The sequel is never as good as the original, but that doesn't mean The Last Of Us 2 is a bad game. 2013's The Last of Us is arguably the greatest game of all time, it was always going to be incredibly difficult for part two to live up to that standard. For the most part it did, but some design choices made key story elements fall flat on their face and the game does overstay it's welcome a little bit because of this. Story (5/10). Sound & Visual (10/10), Gameplay (9/10).

Story (5/10): I like what they tried to do with the story, it was just told in the wrong order. It was like reading all the even chapters in a book then going back and reading all the odd chapters. Ultimately I didn't care for Abby's part of the story because i already knew how it ended. There was no reason for me to be invested in the side characters (Owen, Mel, Manny, Lev, and Yara) in her arc, so the relationships she was developing didn't matter. The pivotal dynamic between Ellie and Abby also didn't matter for half of the story because we knew where it ended prior to half of it being told, it just meant that Abby's story felt like filler.
Then there's Joel's death. I don't think there is a single legitimate fan that didn't think this would happen, but damn did it miss the mark. It's very transparent that they were trying to reach the same heights as Sarah's death in part one to shock the player into being motivated. However, there was no payoff with Joel dying, when it happened my first thought was 'oh well, Joel is dead I guess, right what's next'. It didn't make me stop and wonder what I had gotten myself into like Sarah's death did. The story would have had so much more impact if I cared for why Abby wanted to kill Joel before it happened, not retroactively filling it in through flashbacks.
The game should have started with the zebra scene, where Abby's dad gets called back to the hospital to perform the surgery on Ellie, to then cut to Abby walking through the hospital only to see the Fireflies and ultimately her dad after Joel had gotten to the operating room. The rest of the flashbacks for both Abby and Ellie can then be used to create the first chapter to establish what occurred in the five years between Ellie's rescue and Joel's death. The end of Chapter 1 still culminates in Joel's death, but at least we would have a reason to care about it.
After Joel's death the story should then have been told in chronological order switching from Ellie day 1 to Abby day 1 and so on. It is an intertwining story that was told as if it was linear and that's the disappointment.

Sound and Visual (10/10): There is isn't anything you can fault with the sound and visual design, it is brilliant. From the terrifying clickers, bloaters and shamblers that you can hear in the distance, to the Seraphites' hunting whistles becoming more desperate as you kill them off or the melancholy backing tracks and the rain and thunderstorms, this game has absolutely marvellous sound design. The visuals are the same with dilapidated, soaring skyscrapers, thunderstorms and burning villages, to serene mountainous landscapes, to realistic facial and body movements this game is a treat to look at.

Gameplay (9/10): There's not much new here, but that's fine, it was already an enjoyable gameplay loop. if you enjoyed the gameplay from the first game then you won't be surprised here. The addition of the stalkers and the dogs significantly changed how the stealth mechanics worked, but they were used far too infrequently to matter. At times it felt like there were endless numbers of enemies coming from literally nowhere (especially in the last chapter), and the hyped infected vs human vs player battles were virtually non-existent and always resulted in you still fighting a large number of enemies. Though none of this stopped me from enjoying the moment to moment gameplay.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I played the hell out of TLOU. I bought it for PS3 and then the remaster when it came out for PS4. All told I must have played it from beginning to end at least 10 times. Like most who played TLOU, I couldn't wait for TLOU2. I watched each trailer as it was released with goosebumps and growing anticipation. The love I had for the first would certainly carry over to the second. Sure, some things had changed at Naughty Dog but the core was still there and they loved Joel and Ellie as much as any of us…right?

Let's start with Joel. I kind of thought he might die at some point, likely in a way that was heroic and meaningful (maybe stepping in front of an infected or a WLF bullet to save Ellie?), but Ellie's rampage of revenge (as highlighted in the trailers) must have been fueled by something else, right? I mean, she was joined by Joel on her quest (or at least that's what the trailers deceptively showed, a flat out lie from Naughty Dog that we all believed). I mean, ND must have had discussions about whether people would dislike the game because Joel plays such a small part and decided “Let's trick the fans into thinking he has a much bigger part! They’ll forgive us when they see how progressive the game is!” Instead the only Joel we see for the rest of the game is in flashbacks, most of which show a deteriorated relationship between he and Ellie. Joel from TLOU wasn’t perfect, but he deserved far better (as did we).

Let's move on to Abby. Abby, the faithful soldier and hero of the WLF, a bloodthirsty machine fueled entirely by the thought of taking revenge on the man who killed her father. I'm fine with Abby's motives but being forced to play as Abby for countless hours was a laughable attempt by ND to trick the player into sympathizing with Joel's murderer.

What ND wanted you to see: Aww, she lost her father. Aww, look at her play with the doggies. Aww, she and Owen used to be so happy. Aww, she's helping the Scar kids. Aww, she spared Ellie and Dina. She’s totally redeemable!

What I saw: Umm, she mercilessly tortured and killed Joel right after he literally saved her life. Umm, she just had sex with Owen who has a baby on the way. Umm, she just went Rambo on all of her friends and fellow soldiers at the WLF the second they threatened Lev's life. Umm, she was ready to slit Dina’s throat until Lev intervened. Mel was right, Abby really is a piece of ****

Now for the biggest disappointment, Ellie herself. Ellie, who swore that she would make them all pay, that she would kill every last one of them for what they did to Joel. This is the same Ellie who killed countless WLFs (including killing pregnant Mel and torturing Nora before also killing her), Scars, Rattlers and doggies to get to Abby with barely an inkling of remorse. Then in the end she has an epiphany and realizes that revenge is wrong and she just doesn’t have it in her to kill Abby (you know, the one who actually did the torturing and killing). She also left Dina and their baby alone with barely a thought to go after Abby, even though she knew Dina may not be there when she returned. She didn’t honor Joel’s memory by sparing Abby, she merely affirmed that his life and everything that led up to that moment from the time she left Jackson meant nothing. She killed all those people for nothing. Jesse died for nothing. Tommy was maimed for nothing. Dina and the baby are gone for nothing. Hell, she even lost a couple of fingers for nothing. Ellie, you are also a piece of ****

I can’t fathom why so many critics are hailing this game as a “masterpiece”. Did they actually play it? How long did they play it? Are they just rewarding Naughty Dog for being so “progressive”? I grant that the game is beautiful and most of the actual gameplay was enjoyable but in the end poor writing has left the franchise in shambles. ND will never admit that they’ve done anything wrong, and for some reason a lot of people defend them, but I can’t wait to see TLOU2 remastered flop when it hits PS5, and when the trailer for TLOU3 inevitably drops in a couple of years, I won’t pay it any attention. I’ll be back in Boston with Joel and Ellie.

What made The Last of Us such a special game was the poignant relationship between Ellie and Joel. The Last of Us part II fails to build on it and ultimately fails to give the fans what they desire - the continuity of a poignant relationship. Additional issues with the storyline are character verisimilitude, profligate missions, and poor pacing. It’s clear telling from the stunning graphics, character dialogue, and duration of the game that Naughty Dog spent a lot of time on development. While it is a good game, scores of 9 and above and 5 and below should be considered speculative and should be read with caution. Hopefully the prequel will be a game that gives the fans more of what they want. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let's start with the good stuff. this game looks amazing, sounds amazing and plays smoothly. transitions are handled well and the use of the camera to show the game world and set the scenes is well executed.

there's plenty to like, being in that world again, discovering more about it and the characters in it. the gameplay is fun though a bit comic, even on hard you have plenty of time before detection and both characters are basically rambo which just feels kinda wrong.

Many things don't make sense in the Last of Us Part II. below I'll refer to a small part of them.

Sadly, it fails right out of the gate (yes, Joel. the how of it not the why). I kept playing and being excited hoping things will make sense or be more meaningful later on. it didn't pan out. the game kept forcing me to accept what it presented me with but it never sold me on it.

By the time I got to play Abby (after the initial intro) it was all very obvious. Playing her just made her seem more of an ass to me.

she has this revenge goal that survives everything she has gone through sine that day, which seems odd considering how immediate and deadly life is in the game. she has the life of a soldier fighting for the WLF, she has relative safety and comfort. the WLF is presented like this well off para-military organization. their beef with the scars makes less sense considering both groups and the world they are in.

in short, it seems like Abby (that voice, lol) went out of her way to gather a group of people to go trek across the country, leaving their current group the WLF, to go brutally murder the person who murdered her father and triggers a series of events that sees most of the new characters in the story dead.

another thing that stood out was the whole Ellie is this crazy revenge driven girl now with an amazing ability to straight up murder everything in her path except when the plot needs her to be this child who didn't actually mean to hurt anyone. her conviction falters for no good reason.
her losing her fingers in the final fight was another "punch" to who she portrayed as for most of the game and I can only assume it was done to again shock players with a "twist" and "really" sell their point as the guitar scene shows later.

I got no problem with the concepts or even Joel's death in the very beginning (except how he dies) or with how silly characters act and how outside their character they seem to act but I do got a problem with being force-fed a story and being "told" how to feel by the game.

That is only part of how a great looking game with awesome sound design, music, characters and a lot of effort can fall flat trying to deliver the story which to me is the *main* selling point and the reason to play.

I'm fine with a depressing, sad, and dark story. But Joel didn't get treat right in this game buy absolutely getting clobbered with a golf club by Abby. I've read many bad reviews, but the complaints are what I love the most in this game: breaking down the traditional "hero" story.

There are plenty of movies/books doing the same, but TLOU (both Part I and II) creates a dichotomy between love/hate that I've never seen before.

You can dive into this game and see many small pieces that tell you this story. The way they've connected Joel/Ellie with music is absolutely magical!

With no further due, I can say that The Last of Us: Part II is the best game I've played in my whole life.

But, it was replaced with a story that tears your heart apart in a good way and takes risks that i believe paid off. the way Naughty Dog plays with your feelings is something i have never experienced before in any media and i applaud it for that. The story isn't a one and done sort of thing it requires a lot of analyses and critical thinking to fully understand the story and make a final opinion of said story.
Game play doesn't change much from the 1st game but the few additions make combat encounters more immersive and intense. No encounter is the same as the previous one whether that maybe the enemy variation or the environment of which you face them. the combat always keeps you on your feet especially on harder difficulties in which you are forced to use everything in your arsenal in different ways that just sneaking behind enemies or going to a shootout. things like what i said keep the combat fresh and prevents it from getting stale.
Technically its a masterpiece. i encountered a few bugs in the lighting and maybe a few rendering issues but overall it's solid. The music perfectly captures the world of The Last of Us much like the 1st game and perfectly add up to the intensity of story moments, Combat encounters etc.
Overall The Last of Us Part II is an experience i shall never forget and something like this must be taken with an open mind to fully enjoy and understand the motives of this game.

    ***some spoilers below***
Playing as Abby was extremely frustrating at first, but by the end I realized I actually cared about her character. This is a testament to the great story and character development in this game. I wanted Abby to die a horrible death at the beginning and by the end I found it difficult to fight her. That's how much my feelings had changed, which is rather amazing. This video game actually gave me a new perspective on not always painting the opposing side as the villain or "evil". This can be applied to relationships with people all the way to politics. There are things with the story that were tough to handle, but there were also great things done as well. I'm so glad I didn't listen to all these user reviews and actually played the game. There is a reason why the critic reviews for this game are so high and I agree with them. I give it 10's across the board for story, gameplay, graphics. The music is absolutely phenomenal.

This game is emotionally impactful, sure, but not for good reasons. Just because you feel things doesn't mean the writing was amazing. Put me behind the pen of any sequel that has beloved characters, and I can pull out a shotgun and make people feel their feelings. Then they altered Joel and Tommy's characters.. then they force you to play as a character you hate, and that character (I find) is intensely unlikable. Then they end it with maybe my least favorite ending since ME3. Imagine the end of God of War 3, Kratos is about to beat Zeus' face into a pulp, but then has a half second flashback of his smiling family, so instead he gently reaches down and caresses Zeus' face, whispering "I forgive you". WOWOWOWOW what AmaZInG writing!!! Expand

I'm pretty sure this game has given me lifelong PTSD that will be triggered by somebody I'm sick of pointing to a building 5 miles in the distance and saying "that's where we're headed." This game has almost no plot or character development, and is padded out by hours upon hours of walking through a boring, uninspired world.

The true plot of this game, just like in the first one, is basically that there are a few "human" qualities that people have that trump all else that can happen to us, and losing those--basic stuff you'd find in any religious text like compassion, forgiveness, empathy, etc--will turn us into monsters. In the first game, it's that a civilization without those is not one worth saving, in the second it's that losing them will cost the individual dearly. (I hope now the ending makes sense for anyone with the superhuman attention span to beat this steaming pile of garbage.)

The problem is that they did an awful job telling that exact same story in this game, and took some narrative risks that unfortunately fell completely flat. This was one of the most tedious games I have ever played in my entire life and should have been about 20% as long, and where it fails is mostly on the basics: gameplay is boring; upgrade trees really don't matter; nothing new is introduced; not enough exposition in the story ever takes place to keep anyone but the most devoted fanboy's attention (which is unsurprising as, in fact, there's basically no substance to expose); section after section is artificially extended through combat encounters that don't matter; characters act irrationally just like in budget action films; the game does the whole jumping around in time thing that's gotten to be such a pretentious cliché that even Rick & Morty make fun of it; and the narrative device of flipping back and forth between two opposing perspectives, combined with the generally poor pacing, had the effect of simply rendering me incapable of caring about either one. By the end of this game I was so thoroughly divested of any interest in the characters that I was quite literally sprinting through everything so that it would end and I could free up the hard drive space with the knowledge that I beat it.

Keep taking risks, Naughty Dog--but do a better job at it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game starts out well and it leads you through a controversial plot. The characters already had a strong backstory, so there wasn’t much need for massive character development. However, as grindy as a linear revenge story gets, the game is satisfying. Half way through, you’re introduced to Abby, Joel’s killer. This is when the sh** hits the fan. The writers force the player to play the bad guy and what’s worse, they try to force the player to relate to her.

The first game was much more nuanced at doing this but that’s because the writing was actually good. In this garbage game, the writers tell you what’s right and what’s wrong. They also force you to play a shallow character and force you to try relate to her: she has friends, family, interests, oh my. You have to like this character, but not only that, the writers have the absolute gall and audacity to try turn you against Ellie and Joel. It just comes across as pretentious drivel. This is just another slap in the face to what's happening in sequels nowadays with continuous character assassinations to bolster shallow characters. For example, what's been happening in the newest ST and SW. Oh my gosh, it’s such a mess of a story. They tried to create a controversial story but it comes across as offensive. This is just bad story writing and changing characters like this ruins the whole experience for me.

I'll explain what they did in detail. The first part of the game resolves around Ellie's revenge plot, as basic as it is. However, the second half is a redemption arc for the villain and to portray them as 1: justified in their actions and 2: real every day people. They fail horribly on every count with this. First, they try demonize Joel and his actions in the first game, specifically when he killed the Fireflies to save Ellie. They do this by portraying the surgeon, who was going to murder Ellie, as a loving father and by showing how Joel is such a horribly person because he wiped out humanity's one hope to fight of the virus. They fail this miserably because the first game was about the moral question, do the means justify the ends? Of course, they do not. This is what the whole first game is about and philosophically they don't either. If the means justify the ends, then anything goes. Joel was defending Ellie's right to live, because she was not given a choice. It was not a sacrifice, it was attempted murder. It might have been different if the Firelies asked if Ellie was willing to sacrifice her life, but they didn't. As an example, in a pathetic attempt to assassinate Joel character, Abby remembers her past: when she mentions she would have sacrificed herself. Yet, seems to ignore the fact that Ellie did not have a choice since they kept her unconscious.

Since this attempted character assassination of Joel fails miserably, it's difficult to put the second part in perspective. What's worse, it's blatantly obvious how the writers keep trying to shove emotional scenes and backstories of Abby down the players throat from the very get go. The literal first 15 mins of Abby's playthrough is either characters directly or indrectly telling the player how good and likable she is.
I bet if they could change the first game, they would. But, they can't. They cannot change how things turned out in the first game, oh boy but sure do they try. The last of us Part 2 just insults your intelligence and there is no nuance. The basic morality of TLOUP2 is revenge is bad... Mmmkay. Now go brutally kill people. Eh?

I’m so shocked they did this and so offended. Please, if you have your own mind and enjoy stories that do not preach to you, then avoid at all costs. If you must play this, wait until it's super cheap. I loved the first game. I even played it just before playing this one, but be ready for a shock on the scale of TV series game of thrones the last few seasons.

At the end of the first chapter you ask yourself, maybe that was just my case, if Joel can be considered a hero. The answer is no, he has committed a lot of atrocities culminating with killing all the doctors searching for a cure in this devastated world. Obviously you care about this character because of the 10 to 15 hour long story which you play for most of the time with him, and also you see him and Ellie bonding during the journey, and you as well with them.
In this second chapter the death of Joel cannot go in other ways, maybe you want him to die like an hero, but I think that in this world created in such a great way by Druckmann there's no hero or no villain, his death is used in a masterly way that seeing him dying make you fell like Ellie. I was feeling heartbroken and mad at the same time (like Ellie) and seeking for revenge (again, like Ellie), but progressing through Ellie's story you start asking yourself if revenge is worth it. Then when you think "well okay time for the final fight" Naughty Dog (great move from them in my opinion) switches characters and make you play as Abby starting from the moment when you understand why she did what she did and then the same 3 days in Seattle you already played as Ellie.
Playing as Abby i do not think is a slap in the face from naughty dog to the player, it is just another point of view, and you realize that she is not the villain (at least in her own story) but Joel is. Joel killed her father, the doctor at the end of the first chapter. playing as Abby you understand that she is not happy for what she has done, also you can see her nightmares progression into dreams as soon as she is "redeemed".
I do not want to write all the 5000 characters that metacritic allows me to do, i just want to say that naughty dog did a great job writing this story and these characters where there is no black or white but just one grayish shade. The final is a perfect for this story, yes is sad and if you ask me to describe the final in one world I would say "devastating" , but there is still hope underneath all of this sadness.
Now let me just talk about the technical compartment, music, animations, gameplay (enhanced from the previous game where it was solid, now is almost perfect), AI of the enemies (especially on survivor difficulty), level design are the best you can ask from a triple A title.
in conclusion this is a game that is worth buying, surely divisive, but that make you feel emotions you probably never felt in a videogame and in such a different way from the others that I've played it already two times and on the second run I've discovered new details that in the second run I missed.
I personally don't understand all this criticism with the 0 ratings, guys if you at the end still want to kill Abby you have missed the game that naughty dog is playing with you.
Sometimes (maybe a lot of the time) a different point of view is not useless because you can start thinking rationally instead of being involved and blind, I'm talking about real life but this, to me, is the key to really understand what message Neil Druckmann and Halley Gross want to pass to the players.
    Thanks for your time
