    Watched the gameplay via Pewdiepie. This game doesn't deserve such high praise especially with the shady business with ND and how they treated their characters in the TLOU franchise.

    The graphics are ok, but nothing new. The problem is the storyline. Such a waste, burning all the game's timeline in just two "children's" bickering back and forth and when it changes, it's just to some nonsense propaganda/agenda while forcing relationship just to appease

    I pushed through this games story after having to pause at the halfway point and completed it in 3 days. I want to break down this review down into story, characters, and gameplay. I also want to take into account the first game of this series since this is the sequel to that. If anyone is jumping into this game before EXPERIENCING the first game you will have wildly different viewsI pushed through this games story after having to pause at the halfway point and completed it in 3 days. If anyone is jumping into this game before EXPERIENCING the first game you will have wildly different views because you are being introduced to characters for the first time.

    Story- I'd say about for the first 8 hours or so with thorough looting and scavenging for materials the story is fine. It transpired in a way that made sense. Then in the halfway point of this game and the pacing gets messed up in a way that makes the player feel like they just got sent back to level 1. Not only does it feel bad to feel like you have to start from the beginning, but it also feels completely irrelevant. They try to force you into seeing the bad guys story and fail at it. Now after that is over the pacing gets even worse where this a random break in the action and then you jump back into the action and the game ends in about an hour after that. The ending is probably worse than the pacing because basically it makes everything ellie went through in the entire game pointless, a waste of time.

    Characters- I think this is the worst part about this game. All new characters introduced are bland and the game never does a good job of getting you to like these characters for who they are as people and not just because of their sexuality. This game seems to think that because of a character's sexuality they for some reason are filled with personality, they're not. Beliefs, morals, actions, behavior, inner thoughts, and relationships, things like this truly build a character. Whenever a character died in this game I never cared. The only time I ever felt like I cared about these characters were in flashbacks between joel and ellie.

    Gameplay- it is identical to the first game. The AI is not very intelligent. If you're quick and don't stand idle behind the same area for too long you can run and gun situations very easily. The AI will lose your location if you just kill a target and run to a different hiding spot. I played on moderate difficulty which is the normal difficulty and I never found myself struggling to find resources as I checked everything whenever I could. The audio is terribly loud, I played using a playstation platinum headset I would sometimes confuse my own footsteps despite crouching and tilting my analog stick very slightly. Also if an enemy attacks you from behind prepare to take huge amounts of damage because the camera makes it impossible to see anything that isn't in front of you because of the position it is locked into. The gameplay is its only good quality I would say but only if you completely strip away the characters, motives, and story completely from your mind.

    I would like to include that I had two other people I knew playing this game. One of them my cousin and the other my best friend since the 3rd grade. Both of them were ecstatic for this sequel preparing it to hit their GOTY for 2020. I luckily finished it before both of them so I hopped on PSN chat to hear the reactions of the ending from my best friend who was so frustrated that he called his other close friend to tell him not to buy the game. My best friend also experienced the feeling of wanting to stop playing halfway through the game because of what was happening but pushed through to see if it redeemed itself in the end. My cousin on the other hand, while he didn't like the second half, was not dreading it as much as my best friend and I did. He remained fairly positive until the end and when he watched the ending and the credits roll he said on his stream "I'm not gunna lie, I'm kinda salty"

    We all loved the first game especially for the characters and the relationship between them. This second game comes nowhere near the level of the first game in that factor alone so if you're a fan of the first I highly doubt you will like this game by the time credits roll.

    Do not believe people saying this game is getting review bombed. Undoubtedly some of the reviews are very salty remember that these were people who were huge fans of this series and these characters. They feel cheated, angry, whatever the case is. If you don't believe that I completed it you're welcome to check my trophy list at deadlysin12.

    Final verdict: you're better off watching this game on youtube or twitch because you will not enjoy your experience by the time credits roll you will have regretted purchasing this game. I know I did and so did my best friend. This game is absolutely not a 10/10 or a masterpiece.

    This game is just as bad as mass effect 3. I feel nothing but a huge, huge disappointment. Just the same mass effect 3 again. Wasted my time and money. Would never ever buy any naughty dog product from now on and forever, just like I never bought anything bioware-related after me3 fiasco.

    In order to play this game and enjoy it you need to have a marked lack of empathy. You need to be something of a masochist. That's not why I play a game. Certainly, difficulties in games are welcome, as are moral dilemmas, but you can't have a game that strings them together so poorly that all the characters feel two-dimensional and thoroughly loathsome.

    Game play is excellent, the visuals are stunning, physics are extraordinary, and I know it's a "survival" game. Yet, I hated absolutely every character in it, then hated myself for having had to go along with the script and not being able to play the game as I would have preferred.

    What naughty dog has done to our characters is disgraceful. Treating joel like that, completely forgetting everything the first game was about. This game isnt even about the virus anymore. Its a joke of a revenge game. The story completely ruins this game.

Why would Joel say his name to a bunch a random strangers he just met and also why did Tommy say that you can come our place and restock to a group of random people. Then the worst part is when you play as Abby you will have to choke Ellie out which felt very uncomfortable. The whole Revenge plot was just absolutely GARBAGE. Why would Ellie KILL hundreds of people that didn't have to do anything with Joel's death just to get to Abby only to then let Abby go at the end??? You can see that this game tried portray as if Ellie is the main villain in this story and Abby the hero. Literally nothing happens to Abby in this game she got what she wanted and Ellie loses EVERYTHING, friends, family and what she was fighting for. The game did get boring on some parts but the gameplay and graphics are pretty good. If i see Abby in Last of us part 3 I am not buying the game. Not worth £55 to be honest.… Expand

    Good improvements on the gameplay and animations compared to part 1. Graphics are amazing. Awful story. Deceptive marketing tricks which made me buy day one. If it had just an okay story I would have rated the game 7/10. But this story just ruined the game for me.

    For TLOU1 fans do not buy this game. It is a spit in the face and a waste of time the characters both old and new are weak. The story is a generic revenge plot and the game beats you over the head with revenge being bad and violence is not the way. It's just so overwhelmingly bleak. The characters have no charm or a personality. They are there to basically demonize Ellie and Joel and tryFor TLOU1 fans do not buy this game. It is a spit in the face and a waste of time the characters both old and new are weak. The story is a generic revenge plot and the game beats you over the head with revenge being bad and violence is not the way. It's just so overwhelmingly bleak. The characters have no charm or a personality. They are there to basically demonize Ellie and Joel and try to make you feel bad for killing the ones responsible for his murder except for Abby. Ellie sacrifices so much, got a lot of people killed, destroys her body, damns her soul. All for nothing just to let her live and return to an empty home with nothing to show for it. The only two character I found interesting were Lev and Yara. Lev being trans and wanting to be a warrior and not some house wife, and his sister Yara who would never abandon her brother. The visuals and gameplay are really good. The action set pieces when you're running away from a horde of enemies or a chase on foot are gaming highlights. The melee has a savage feel to it, Every fight is a brutal duel to the death all the character fight dirty. gouge out eyes, smash their heads into walls bite off fingers. In conclusion the story leaves much to be desired and will piss off a lot of fans but the gameplay and visuals are enjoyable.… Expand

    The game has a great graphics, no loading between the chapters, an unforgettable music, best mo cap and voice acting performance, and an amazingly fun gameplay all which is wasted for the poor story telling, some reading this review may say all this can't be ruined by story but all I say is wait until you play it yourself you'll understand how bad it is that you don't wanna continue the game from a point.
    I just don't understand what was all that we got in the first game? what was that for? all that character development all that bounding to those characters was for what? to just say hey we made you love them now we destroy them, it was so sadistic move, it was't just a bad ending, it was abusing and insulting for me, a big fan of the game and almost every other fans I know.
    I'm deeply sad for what has happened to this great game so many different ways to continue the story to please the fans and create something unique but, too bad they chose the way to insult the fans and destroy the game in a unique way.

The story is just rinse and repeat all the way through. Even using, not one , but two pregnancies to try and pull on your heartstrings. The only decent scenes are the flashbacks with Joel. It recreates some of the magic of the first game but then soon rips it away and leaves you missing Joel again. Then they have the audacity to make you play as the murderer who killed him. Just plain awful compared to the first game.… Expand

The Last of us was a legendary game. It still is today. The Last of us Part II, in my opinion, doesn’t really live up to the first game. The gameplay, most of the story, graphics, cutscenes, fighting animations, and overall the pace of the game was good. I enjoyed the music too. Excellent soundtrack. The parts of the game that are what really got me to give this rating are only a couple, but also very key things. First of all, the ending was horrible. It wasn’t bad, it was just so sad. I feel like the game just dragged on and didn’t do any justice in the end. It was a terribly sad ending. Ellie suffered so much throughout the game. In the end, she couldn’t even play the guitar. She never killed Abby. Which literally was the point of the game, or so the story made it seem that way, and it never happened. Secondly, playing as Abby. I hated that. After watching Joel die a horrible death at her hand, I was upset. Like literally upset. As if I had an argument with someone I hated, and I lost. Playing as her after that scene was just a punch in the gut. Also, the first fight between her and Ellie, where we beat Ellie up, was just not fun at all. Knowing what Abby did just made it so much harder emotionally. Another thing about Abby as well, going back and forth between her and Ellie messed the time lines up for me. At the end of the game there wasn’t an indication it had been a while and that Ellie got to Abby after Abby had been worked to the bone for a while. It was just like bam here she is a while later. The ending was so bad. Even writing this review I’m thinking of how sad and awful it was. Come on Naughtydog. I don’t even wanna see a part 3 now if it’s coming. One thing I did wanna touch on is the lesbian relationship that Ellie and Dina share. I think that’s really interesting and I liked it. It was a nice twist to the game and I am perfectly fine with lesbian characters. Who really cares. I mean they raised a cute baby. It was cool to see the family aspect. In a way, the game shows us that even after something as bad as a zombie apocalypse, there’s still love of all kinds. It was a good touch in my opinion. Not needed, but good. But overall, I rate this game a 4 out of 10. While there are more positives than negatives listed in this review, in my mind, those 2 negatives outweigh the positives. They really brought the game down for me. I almost put the game down when I played as Abby. That was the main problem for me. Like what Last of us fan wants to play as the murderer of Joel. What person wants to play a character who murders there favorite character in any other video game. Not many people. You could argue it was important to see Abby’s side of things, and yes that’s a valid argument. But I still don’t care enough to want to play as her. Anyway, the game wasn’t the worst.     I really loved the precious game but iy's so unfortunate to see such enjoyable gameplay and the huge plot holes. Many people think some Last of Us fans just can't take the fact that one of the main characters is gay, but that's really not the issue. The plot holes and the gameplay is just sad. They couldve done so much better.

However, the story Last of Us 2 took was absolutely garbage and included one of the most unsatisfying endings to a video game I have ever seen. Half the game is played by Joel’s killer and although the game tries to get the player to sympathize with her, it executed it poorly. The ending is also terrible as Ellie never even fulfills her revenge mission. The entire game is centered around Ellie gaining revenge for Joel’s death and for what? To let Abby go just because they need to “end the cycle of revenge”? Also, the trailers for the game intentionally deceive gamers to believe Joel is alive throughout the game when in fact they are all flashbacks. The only way this story could’ve been salvaged was to let the player play as Tommy instead of Abby and actually fulfilled Ellie’s mission. Instead, Ellie lost her father figure, partner, and two fingers to not even avenge Joel’s death. To think half of this game isn’t even played as Ellie (but as Joel’s murderer) is so unsatisfying. People who defend this garbage story line will say that you need to look at Abby’s POV and that “you just don’t get it” or make some ridiculous claim that you don’t like the game because of its inclusion of LGBT characters. That definitely is not the problem, the story is just legitimately terrible.… Expand

The story is completely redundant in it's morals, The new character and antagonist Abby does not have good or valid character building and I don't like how the producers expect us to like her and take her side. There was a story we didn't necessarily didn't get to see with Joel and Ellie, y'know that we kinda built since the first game to just have it torn away and be something we'll never have. However, everything else gameplay wise is still the same. Only thing I could see that was added was the ability to go prone and sprint jump. Everything else is just ehh and even the AI from the first game was a lot more aggressive as in TLOU2 the enemies literally forget about you and have a tendency to go into hiding if they find you. I was really looking forward to this game and would have never thought that The Last of Us would even get a sequel. I was holding off on buying this game and saw my brother play it so I can get a feel for how the story plays out for the first couple of hours. Though well into hour 2, I made my mind up that I would much rather look into using my $60 elsewhere. It wasn't about Joel dying, it was how he went out and it was just the most idiotic and uncharacteristic way to go out. Then Naughty Dog expects us to play as the killer half way into the game, which is just something that turns me off. I don't wanna be forced to play with someone that I completely and utterly don't care about and have shoved down our throats as the main character. I could care less about the backstory for Abby, she is a terribly written character and don't see why having the doctor be tied into this story. The ending in itself is just atrocious. I was looking forward to having Abby killed but instead we have an ending of Ellie letting her go and not getting revenge. This game is in the end pointless and the journey was pointless. If Abby was at least killed, I would have given this a slightly higher score but my rating stands. In my eyes, this game is not canon and I am still waiting on the real Last of Us Part II.… Expand

    First let me point out what i did like.

    The graphics are amazing, they aren't mind-blowing like some have claimed but they are still pretty awesome, the sound is good, voice acting is as good as its ever been ,even if many of the VO artists have be obnoxiously rude to the fan base. The soundtrack is the best part of the game and the environments are some of the most immersive and detailed if ever seen. That folks is wher my praise ends. Because the games director was and is more concerned with pushing social ideologies than he is telling a competent story. Hes more willing to listen to a certain ideolog/professional victim , that shall remain nameless, than he is the fan base hes allegedly trying to make this game for.

    This game doesn't make it 30 min in before issues like race and sexuality are put to the for front. Its obnoxious and distracts from a story that, now that I think of it, is probably worth being distracted from. Character motivations change on a dime. Its quite jarring to have a character be completely for one option one moment, and then less than five min later be for the exact opposite option for no other reason that the story needs it. This game relies heavily on flashbacks so much so that huge chunks of the story are told out of order like a Tarintino movie. I cant give any examples with out giving away spoilers, but the plot in this game has more holes than a cellulose sponge. The characters you loved from the first game are completely different than what they where in the first game and the new characters are so boring and poorly written that by the end of the game I didn't like any of them. Most of them are so awful that as I write this review I cant recall any of their names. The ending to this game was not only very abrupt but so bad that it felt like they stole it from a Z grade fanfiction. But as bad as this game is that's not the worst part about this whole mess. The worst part is Naughty Dog and sonys reaction to the story leaks.

    See about a month before the game released the entire story leaked online, and naturally people didn't like what they saw and took to twitter and youtube to vent their dislike with the story. Even though it fell completely under the fair use provisions of The Digital Millennium Copyright Act, Sony and Naughty Dog began to give false statements on legal forms in the form of DMCA take down notices. These notices lost a lot of people a lot of money and risked taking away their livelihoods just because naughty dog cant take criticism.

    In the end this game is a huge mess and disappointment. Terrible story and game play that operates on a repetitive loop. A game made by horrible people who care more about pushing a social and political narrative than making a quality product.

    Avoid at all costs, thers many indi devs that make much better game that deserve your money much more than these people do.    … Expand

    tbh i'm kind of glad i got the story spoiled for me, this way i didn't need to fork over $60 for this disappointment. i seriously don't know how they went from a original, heart wrenching and emotional story about saving mankind, to an "uh oh revenge bad" story killing off characters who's names you cant even remember for shock value.

    OMG no what I am going to be as brutally honest, if you want to play a game with good graphics and do not care about the storyline then play this game. I AM A STORY GAME person so when I played this game I WAS ABSOLUTELY DISAPPOINTED AT WHAT NAUGHTY DOG WAS THINKING. The way my GUY JOEL MAY HE RIP WAS KILLED WAS BEYOND STUPID AND INFURIATING. we all know very well that Joel was a smart badass man he would never reveal his location nor say his name knowing how many people he had crossed. Also, the misleading trailers were not helpful at all like really, I know they were like ''do not want to spoil'' but they could have easily used all the flashbacks as footage. Moreover, how could you show a 2-4 min trailer about a character that WE WERE GOING TO PLAY 10 HOURS AS (felt longer)? The first game was just amazing the story was written to a perfect t I even thought y did they carry on they should have left it there. The whole entire 25-hour game is pretty much made to hunt down ABBY, so when the ending came the only thing gamers were holding onto was when knowing Joel died at the hands of ABBY soo obvi when we don't kill ABBY I was like ''WHAT THE HELL' haha that is exactly what I said. Its not even that, its the fact Ellie is left with absolutely nothing, that made me think wow the disrespect to both characters I was shook. So what else can Ellie's character now go off of? The game obviously wants you to like Abby, but what did they expect when you kill him off like that and fans have been waiting 7 YEARS. Abby saves kids hugs dogs while Ellie kills a pregnant woman and hurts dogs like I was heartbroken. I am not going to lie the graphics are amazing but the story is just terrible. A whole 7 years man I am actually so sad. How low do we get sex scenes really, the first story was about a loving relationship about Joel and Ellie, yes I know at one point Joel had to die but not like this like really we got to that level. I also wanted facts about Ellie's immunity the facts behind it and all that cool stuff but NO. I hope Naughty dog can redeem from this I really have NO CLUE HOW but overall the game was a letdown. This game is a piece of technical mastery with an illogical decision making of storytelling.It tries to rise women authority and Importance up to an absurd point. This game is not relatable at all and is sadly a punch on the face to those gamers who were patiently waiting with eager and will to enjoy a good story. It is obvious how a considerable amount of “oppressed” minorities desperately try to make an unnecessary effort to feel involved and accepted in a game, which story and ambience couldn’t be less interested in them, mainly because it’s core is about survival, not about seeking validation amongst dead zombies and teared populations. Us gamers, couldn’t care less about the sexual preferences of any character, it doesn’t disturb our sleep let alone does it even make any difference to us. It’s not that we are happy about gay relationships, it’s that we don’t care because we don’t think that it should be a reason to whether play a game or not. Secondly, I want to highlight how bogus the trailers shown to us are. Character models and dialogues are tweaked so we think the game will bring up one thing to then turn out to be something completely different. It’s mind bogging to see how afraid they eventually were to plunge in on letting people see the game’s true colours. Thus giving us yet another reason to hate the game, as we have been lied to.     the first last of us was amazing, great story, loving characters that we all loved, until last of us II came out, it has bugs, terrible introduction, climax, and other poorly done choices, that crushed this game, and got a lot of hate and reaction's on youtube, some YouTubers were sponsored by "Naughty Dog" and "PlayStation", and they weren't allowed to say or make an impression about thethe first last of us was amazing, great story, loving characters that we all loved, until last of us II came out, it has bugs, terrible introduction, climax, and other poorly done choices, that crushed this game, and got a lot of hate and reaction's on youtube, some YouTubers were sponsored by "Naughty Dog" and "PlayStation", and they weren't allowed to say or make an impression about the game, because they won't be sponsored by PlayStation or naughty dog if they create the third part of last of us, the important character has done in the first 2hr and 30min of the GAME DUE to very stupid way, and we fans, had to play the antagonist for 10hr straight, which ruined the game experience to other, by being boring, hating on character Abby which killed Joel at the first 2hr and 30min of the game and very poorly ending due to bad choices for Ellie to get revenge for Joel. and many other reasons.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have to be honest, as a giant TLOU fan I am sad that they completely destroyed the story. It’s obvious that they changed the game for whatever reasons, you can just look at the trailer And then the game and noticed a lot has changed. 7 years of mastering a beautiful story about two strangers with horrible past, learn to survive and love each other, just to completely destroy a beloved character, Why I don’t know. But thank you Naughty Dog for showing Us Gamers that your willing to **** everything up to follow a stupid ideology of society. Hope this bites you in the ass, as well as you Neil. The game is playable, amazing Graphics, good combat mechanics, not as many bugs. But don’t go into the world of “Part II” expecting to feel nostalgic or bring back memories of the first last of us.… Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
