This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’m giving it a three for the graphics, environments and acting but that’s all I can give it for. Besides that, gameplay is repetitive (especially in the second half) and so are the puzzles. There was a point, half way through where you begin to play as Abby where I was wondering in the whole 10 or more hours you play as her, when it was going to be over. The game dragged on for an unnessicary amount of time. The story could have easily been told in 15 hours without the extra padding. The only good parts where I found myself not wanting it to end, were the flashbacks which were short. If this is how Druckmann ‘honours’ his characters, it’s so disrespectful. Almost as if he is torturing US who liked Joel for ever thinking that he was a good man in the first place. As someone who preferred Joel to Ellie, this game was draining to get through. I couldn’t believe how they’d treated him. It was as if they didn’t know their own characters because Joel was never stupid, there was no way he’d reveal his name. But that’s not the only plot hole. How did Ellie and Dina get out of the theatre when Tommy was the only other person alive? How did al three of them, beaten and fatally injured in Tommy’s case her back to Jackson? Ellie has no character arc whatsoever. New characters were boring with the exception of Jesse who was killed in ten seconds flat. Many people were here to see Joel and Ellie’s relationship flourish and how they were coping. Not whatever this cesspit was. All attempts to sympathise with Abby fell short because after killing Joel, there was no way she could be redeemed for me and many others. Abby is by far the worst written character I have ever come across in a game. She has sex with a man who has a pregnant girlfriend, she kills Joel, she tortures people, she only went back for Yara and Lev because she didn’t want to have a guilty conscience. There is no way, even if she saved the world that I would ever sympathise or like that character. Another thing that annoyed me about her was that Neil wanted a strong female character, but as a woman myself, why did you have to make the character more masculine than feminine to look strong? It is also not physically possible for someone to be that muscular in an apocalypse without eating nutritious food which would be scarce. If they wanted to do a game with Abby, they should have left Joel and Ellie’s story where it was, not drag them into this. But let’s talk about that ending shall we? In what world would Ellie actually let Abby walk free? You cannot tell me that after everything her and Joel had been through, after those years in Jackson, that she would not want to tear her head off. Why did she suddenly have a change of heart? It makes no sense. I and many others wanted to torture and inflict a lot of pain into Abby and we were no where near as close to Joel as Ellie was. Especially after having a flash of Joel again, you’d think that would be enough to send her into a fury. I also didn’t like how Joel and Ellie’s relationship was handled in the game. The first flashback was great but then they just destroyed their relationship, not even bothering to fix it before he died. She was way too harsh on him, especially during the party where he was just trying to help. At many points in the game I began to dislike Ellie, mainly at the end. She didn’t feel like the Ellie we once knew, you can say she grew up but she didn’t feel or even look like the same character. Also the Santa Barbara part was unnecessary, it felt like an action game or something out of Dead Island. I have been traumatised by this game, and thats not a good thing. I find myself crying randomly because of Joel because I see his death in my head. If it’s not his death, it’s the flashbacks to when he was happy. Because it’s brought out these emotions in me does not make it a good game. It’s only because I was so attached to him that I feel this way. This game tried to do something and failed miserably. As an avid fan of the first part and someone who once wanted to work at Naughty Dog, I want to forget that it ever had a sequel. Expand

The producers must have been high because that’s the only excuse they have. Furthermore, they ruined the game to pander to an audience that doesn’t even play video games. I’m tired of people putting polities and feminist agenda in my damn games!!! The reason I’m giving it a one is because of Joel’s “geetar” skills. Expand

The Last of Us 2 ist kein schlechtes Spiel, wenn man das Spiel neutral und unabhängig vom ersten Teil bewerten muss.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am highly disappointed in this. I waited so long for it and what we got was less of a sequel to a game we all loved but more of a spinoff where we play as new characters we are supposed to sympathize with but we cannot more than hate. The ending left me with such high depression that makes me unable to touch that game again. There is way more to it that makes it so frustrating but i think it has been said dozens of times enough in all the other reviews on this platform here or others. Only thing left to say for me is that hopefully the studio will abandon some of the paths they lately have chosen and look back to the times where they created fun games to play i used to love so much. My Impression is that next to others, Neil Druckmann did not care about the expectations of the loyal fans for a second part at all. They come up with a very low revange story.

In addition, there are too many boring settings designed for political correctness for some particular class of group (and forgetting other groups as usual).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'd like to start off by saying that this game was not even being played for a story-line but for a god awful message.. I do not need to be taught these baby lessons, especially not from a game that I held dear to my heart. Games are meant to get us away from the world and take us to a nice, bad-ass, and just a simple great place... not to be my parent or mentor and try to kill off dear to heart characters to prove a point/message. SECONDLY, do not hide behind this message and use this as a scapegoat to say that IF YOU THINK ITS BAD, YOU DONT UNDERSTAND THE MESSAGE AND YOUR BAD AND YOU JUST HATE WOMEN AND BLAH BLAH BLAH.. I cannot believe a game that has been waited for 7 years and played for 20+ hours, has glitches, wonky game mechanics, and SAME GAMEPLAY FROM FIRST ONE AND ALSO 7 YEARS TO TEACH ME A LESSON ABOUT REVENGE ?!?!?!?!??!?! Joel took Ellie as a daughter, a daughter that Joel lost in the first game, and that first one you guys beautifully put together...And in the ending of the first game any father if put in that situation would've saved his daughters life.. and killing one doctor that if he just let her go and NOT POINTED A KNIFE AT HIM SO HAPPENED TO BE THE DAUGHTER OF THIS RANDOM WOMAN.. If you wanna talk a message then 2 wrongs don't make a right and her coming to kill Joel was WRONG if you wanna talk messages and you could've made it any other way if you wanted to introduce this character 'Abby' by making her come for Joel and not being able to do it (Kill Joel) and forgive him and understand what the circumstances might've been and JOEL WE ALL KNOW WOULDVE APOLOGIZED AND BEEN KIND.. This story was just a wannabe hard hitting emotional wreck that doesnt need to be there. Imagine if in Modern Warfare 2 chasing General Shepard for killing Ghost and Roach and being in the moment of killing him and STOPPING BECAUSE "REVENGE NO GOOD" we're not 3 years old. That game (CoD Modern Warfare 2) would've been a disaster if they didn't kill General Shepard, and I don't care if you guys killed Joel but in the way that you did as if he deserved such a horrible gruesome scene ?? If he died in an honorable way and towards the end to make it more satisfactory for the players than fine.. this is a GAME not a Life Lesson and you destroyed the game trying to act as if this wasn't a game and a life lesson.. Wow and such a pathetic scapegoat to make Joel and Tommy look stupid like babies too who don't know the rules of survival, to be wary of who you trust ? This is just awful, you guys wrote this game as if the first one never existed.. so sad and I am not here just to hate.. I am here to give you my disappointment as I have the freedom to.. cant believe you guys did this to such a long awaited good game.. so sad. Expand

However this is last of us.. The game is purely selling for its story, and this is where things go south.
Characters that we love act completely out of character, Every so often you ll hear stuff about love, kissing ,Fing and doing other stuff. You know its true when the Crash Bandicoot Easter egg is a porn tape. This is the post apocalyptic world and everyone cares about having sex.
New Characters re added just for story convenience. Jessie's role was to leave Ellie's, girlfriend (Dina) pregnant to raise the bar and then get shotgun to the face. nothing else. Dina is just there to replace Joel in Ellie's adventure but their chemistry is just not here, and the only thing she does, is to keep saying Ellie she loves her and become an obstacle when she reveals she carry a baby. Owen is there as the good guy who prevents his team from killing Ellie early in the game, then reveal to Abby that he got another one pregnant to create this love's triangle its own problem and then get shot by Ellie.
Lily/Lev once again has no purpose in the game other than showing that his 'clan' kicked him out for shaving his head and acting like a boy, they tried to create this (Joel Ellie relationship) with these 2 where Abby protects Lev BUT its too late cause we the player Hate Abby for the mistreat of Joel and cannot accept her as the new Joel.

Joel the protagonist of the 1st game gets killed after 1:30 hour of playing the game to set the goal for Ellie. Joel's death was expected BUT i believe no-one expected him to act so out of character just for plot convenience , especially when you have 2 Ellie flashbacks where you see him act like he used to. (museum scene and). Even Tommy who was with him acted so out of character.
Last but not least we have Ellie, She loses her father figure early in the series, then she goes on this quest for revenge she kills and tortures people to get to her goal and when she does, she rescues Abby fights her, win and let her go. Its worth mentioning how the game had a time skip where we see Ellie and Dina having their own house with their baby and Ellie decides leave and go kill Abby after a long time has passed since their 2nd face off . She lost all of that to get her revenge just to stop. If i wanted a story with great power comes great responsibility Vibe i would have gone to Insomniacs Spider-man . It feels like going up mount Olympus to get water just to realize i left my bucket down to Athens.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I created an account just to write this review. I’m a big fan of the original and other naughty dog games. Since the release date I’ve followed a lot of the discussion with this game and I decided to play the game myself before I rushed with any judgement. The best that I can say is that the gameplay, graphics, acting, and soundtrack are at the very least an 8/10 but the writing in this just so bad. It’s disappointing to say the least. In my opinion, the main reason why The Last of Us is considered one of the greatest games of all time is cause of its story. Cause of the bond between Joel and Ellie. While it was certainly an awesome game just to play and look at, the beautiful yet tragic story was what set it apart from other games at the time. And this sequel diminishes all of what made the original great. Here are my issues with just the story/writing. SPOILERS HERE: I understand, from a narrative standpoint, the decision to kill Joel. While it was not the only approach they could have taken, it could have made for a great storyline if done correctly. Maybe have him and Ellie go on a few more adventures and bond more, then Ellie somehow learns the truth, they split, then Joel dies saving her, then she forgives him. Anything really. Instead Joel is killed in the opening act by Abby (who I’m sure we all know by now) with a golf club. He went out in such a disdainful way that completely disregards all of the attachment we have made towards him and by extension Ellie. By some random character that we saw in one trailer. It all just felt so forced to me. Like the writers were more worried about having an edgy story rather than a GOOD story. It seems like they sacrificed what made the first game great in order to tell a message. SPOILERS END

I could go on but there’s honestly too much to write. To anybody that cares about the previous games story, there’s a good chance you won’t be happy with this one. While gameplay wise it is everything you want in a sequel, the horrendous story is just too bad in my opinion. 4/10

The world feels much more open and natural, you don’t clearly see the only way you can exit an area to progress and areas aren’t little boxed in segments like the first game. However the story was severely lacking and as someone who adored the first game I couldn’t be more disappointed. Traits and behaviours of characters that we already know are either suspended in order to further the plot, or they’re changed until the characters are barely even likeable. The trailer was heavily misleading by suggesting that Ellie was the predominant character in the game when you spend half the game playing as someone else. Instead of getting you attached to characters and grow a bond with them, which was done in the first one with Tess, Bill, Henry and Sam, where they all felt like real people that Joel and Ellie had connections with. This game gives you characters just to torture them or kill them without even addressing it and as this is done from the start it means as you meet new people you don’t even bother getting attached because you already know the outcome or you expect they’ll be dismissed just as easily. The inclusion of LGBT+ characters, as well as strong female characters that aren’t stereotypically feminine, was refreshing and would have been done well had the plot not made you negatively view a lot of characters or situations. The first half seemed bearable albeit extremely slow, a lot of exploring and looting with little character interaction similar to the first one or any interesting plot development. In the first game each area had a ally or enemy to focus on that made it memorable and stopped any areas feeling like they were dragging, part 2 massively lacks that and while you’re next to people in a lot of the game it feels very lacklustre.

The second half of the game was almost unbearable, to the point as someone who loved the first game I was bored and I was tired and I was upset. I finished this game wishing it wasn’t made, it was just a 25 hour game where you didn’t get to spend time with people you actually liked, and when you were finally Ellie related again you regretted it. Instead of making a game about revenge that included meaningful connections, new allies, and a more in-depth look into this version of a dystopian society, what we got instead was a game that took away anything that motivated the player to continue, and stripped them of anyone they could grow to like or enjoy as a character and instead left me feeling utterly done with the series and so distraught over the game that I don’t understand why they made it at all because they clearly don’t care about the fans or the experience for them.

THANK YOU for killing one of my favourite game, the first part is about the relationship Joel and Elly whats was awesome and a good final, but after waiting 7 years we receive this, no doubt tecnically it's very beautifull game, visuals are awesome, here you done a great job but the game not about graphics it's about the history and here you were wrong. The first of all you killed the one of must important person in start of game, if you'd killed him in the end it's would to be much better because the character of this level isn't deserve tratement like this. But after that you forced us to play for Ebby a half of game when we hated her and here i'm done, quit and delete, this part isnt exist for me. RATED 2/10 for efforts Expand

    I CAN'T BELIEVE I HAVE TO LEAVE A 1 STAR REVIEW ON LOU2!!!

I'm not unfair in my review & to highlight that I'll start with the positive; the game is beautiful to look at & play through, the graphics are so amazing it put creators on notice, make a visually beautiful game or bust. New weapons & abilities let the game have a nostalgic sense while keeping it new enough to engage you, easter eggs throughout the game give you that "Ahh Haa" moment HOWEVER........ The game does a lot the wrong way; I won't say it did thing's it shouldn't have BUT definitely the wrong way.....

    1) It drives this huge wedge between characters who's bond held the story together like glue; instead of being grateful that Joel saved her life Ellie is furious even though they were gonna dissect her to TRY & make a vaccine (in modern times making a vaccine is hard enough, in that world all but impossible), the infection is a fungus not a virus so a vaccine would do jack diddly to help, they needed antibiotics OR anti-fungal treatments, killing her should never have been considered. What they really needed was Ellie to have children to pass her immunity on to).

    2) Joel & Tommy act like rookies & tell their identities to complete strangers like the last game never happened & everyone is trust worthy; where is the Joel who ran over a guy in the street asking for help because he knew it was a trap? Where is the Joel that had to fight off rapey cannibals with their hearts set on Ellie? They are lead to a den of 6+ people they don't know & don't question why these 6+ people weren't out with Abby, Joel & Tommy don't pick up on the vibe of the room, they don't feel uneasy about being out numbered. NOT LIKE THE JOEL OR TOMMY I KNOW.

    3) You are forced to watch as Joel is tortured & murdered by Abby, who does so with a certain amount of satisfaction I might add (torturing someone & enjoying it is a likable quality now IG) & ND literally spits on Joel's memory, almost like a "he had it coming moment", so I guess killing a child to "Save The World" was the right answer & since he didn't do that he must be murdered horribly. After seeing this as a Gamer I expected revenge for Joel, that this set up was to give a gamer reason to hunt Abby down.

    4) They want you to bond with a feel compassion for Abby; they want this so bad you are forced to play as her, go on dates as her, interact with her friends who you couldn't careless about & most you have killed so you never invest in them to begin with. She claims to be loyal to her crew but betrays them for 2 kids she barely knows, you shoot at & kill your own camp members/friends to save these kids but then she's upset that Ellie has killed some of her friends. She's friends with Mel then f*cks Owen (Mel's baby daddy) behind her back, she hates Scars but throws away everything to help 2 of them, she's a proud firefly but betrays them (PICK A SIDE ALREADY).

    5) Ellie goes through hell & back (much of the time on her own) to avenge the murder of her father figure (WHICH HAPPENS IN FRONT OF HER FACE I MIGHT ADD) & in the end she doesn't deliver on that, the one thing that made this unbearable gameplay semi-playable was knowing in the back of your mind we will find Abby & make her pay, Abby murders/tortures Joel, damn near disables Tommy, kills Jesse, beats the hell out of Ellie, bites off 2 of her fingers, but a flash back of Joel keeps us from killing her instead of infuriating Ellie enough to finish the job.

If ND wanted to make Abby likable or bearable to play as they should've had you play as both equally without the Joel murder/torture & build up to the moment of Joel's death; then the gamer is horrified that they played as Abby & maybe even enjoyed it, BUT YOU CAN'T HAVE A NEW CHARACTER WE DON'T KNOW KILL OFF A FAN FAV & BE LIKABLE! we knew jack sh*t about Abby & after she does what she does we don't care to know about her.... all her game play after that feels like a chore, then you're actually forced to fight Ellie as Abby (when gamers fail a mission on purpose i.e. letting Abby get killed by Ellie or throwing Abby off a cliff to get justice that's a bad sign)... in the end Ellie just all out loses... she loses Joel, she loses her friend Jesse, she loses her damn horse, she loses the woman she loves & the chance to be a mother to her child, she loses her fingers & thus-ly loses the ability to ever do the last thing Joel taught her, Play the guitar. However Abby gets to win at every turn; she gets her revenge on Joel, she gets her revenge on Ellie, she gets to enjoy Owen somewhat, she gets to be a hero to Lev, she gets to tell her dad it's ok ta kill a child consequence free, so the message of revenge is pointless & bad is it's self pointless since Abby's revenge is carried out & the only thing stopping Ellie's is.. Ellie.... HOW DARE YOU ND, this game was so anticipated & craved for years & in the end it amounted to a turd-snow cone!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The gameplay is good and rewarding. The problem is that the story writing and character development is poor... so poor that it's something you would expect to read from an 8th grader.

Ellie's relationship with Joel is strained from the opening scenes and there appears to be no explanation, despite the fact that Joel has risked life and limb for her. Ellie is in a lesbian relationship with Dina, the only problem is that it Dina's character lacks depth and is emotionless, doing little to drive the plot forward. What little we see of Joel's character is different, less self assured and confident than the previous game (character destruction).

The combined effect is that the death of Joel at Abby's hands feels hollow, you must then play 10+ hours as Abby, which is clearly a thinly veiled attempt at LGBT inclusive story writing, as the character most likely has Swyer syndrome, which is a difficult thing to live with - and if written correctly with decent character arc and prologue could work in the games favour. But when used purely for identity politics and review leverage, the unfortunate effect is that the players are unlikely to relate to the character at all and even despise them ... which is ironically counter productive to the LGBT inclusive agenda clearly propagated throughout the story.

I believe that what you have is a very lazy attempt at social engineering through the 'gaming' medium, and I say lazy because the most effective way to change peoples mind is not blatantly demonstrate or dictate how they should think and feel, but subtly lead them to what you want them to think and feel through character development and rewarding story arcs. 1/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm devastated. I loved the TLoU 1 with its flaws. It was not a perfect game, with its clunky gameplay, over dependence on the square button, but the plot and storytelling were outstanding. It became one of those games that left us thinking about the true potential of games and how we could come to care about Joel and Ellie and their bond.

TLoU2...wow. Damn. Beyond shocked, saddened, angry and now simply disappointed.

    What were they thinking?

Some games are hard and brutal but if they have an engaging story line with continued character development, gamers fall in love with that game. NONE of that happens here!

After all the false advertising (btw, how is that not libellous??? Isn't it the same as snake oil??), so, yes, after the false advertising, you go excited to continue to play your favourite two characters, whose story was the reason you looked past the clunky gameplay and all that excessive square button smashing... and then you end up being teased those same characters, and then you see that their relationship has become strained, then you are given control of some random character who ends up being saved from the infected by guess who, your favourite characters from the pervious game...strange but ok. Because this was very moronic and out of character from Joel... anyway, the game is a game, let's continue... But then you are shocked when Joel and Tommy give up their names and location without any provocation! Not only out of character, this is an insult to the intelligence of the players who know this would not have been their own reaction based on the first game. The water in Jackson is definitely not healthy if its dumbing down everyone to this level.

This idiocy led to the IMMEDIATE HATRED for Abby because of THE TWIST at the 2hr mark. OK OK OK, Ellie now wants revenge and then we have the first 12 hrs of the game where we go through several parts of Seattle and... find that wherever we reach, most of the people are already dead or not helping us in any way. As a result, you feel for 12 HOURS THAT NO PROGRESS IS MADE by you as the player.

What is more frustrating than your favourite character arc being killed off and turned into a cookie cutter revenge plot? A revenge plot where you feel no sadness for all your friends being killed around you, where you never seem to kill or get anyone to spill the beans on Abby's whereabouts, and where you FEEL LIKE NOTHING IS GETTING DONE AT ALL.

This is the worst thing a game dev. can ever do. DON'T MAKE GAMERS FEEL THEY ARE WASTING THEIR TIME FOR 12 of the first 14 hrs.

But then the devs did worse, they force you to play as the killer of your favourite character. What is wrong with you devs??? You end up speed running through until you reach Tommy and Ellie, when you are happy to see Abby (the character under your control) die repeatedly as you shout enthusiastically for her death with the controller down.

ANGER for the devs is all you are left with.

You don't get the satisfaction at any point, even at the end of the game when you have gone through literally thousands of dead bodies to reach Abby, however poor her state, you want her dead, and the devs DENY you even that small satisfaction.

You are left feeling that the "experience" thought up by the devs is quite brutal, some might argue as being artistic, that's questionable, because unlike art, this actually serves a purpose... making you suffer for your love of the original game.

This is a big middle finger to the gaming community from start to finish

You loved Joel? Let's make him dumb as a rock and beat his head in with a golf club!
You liked Ellie's wit and humour? Let's make her into an a-hole chokes up at the last minute, does not avenge Joel's death and is left without even her guitar playing fingers, and yes, her girlfriend left her with their baby.
Oh, you started to hate Joel's killer? How about we make you play as her for 12 F***ing hours as we try to humanise her and build empathy for her situation because otherwise us dev aren't breaking any new ground (which, in any case they weren't).

NO ONE LIKES ABBY'S CHARACTER BECAUSE SHE KILLED JOEL. Don't make us play as her. Give us a choice. None of her friends are memorable, hell, I can't even remember their names. Everyone in the game is an a-hole except for maybe Jessie, who gets what he deserves for being a nice guy, bullet from Abby in the face.

Devs and Sony should understand one important f***ing thing.

    Gamers don't forget this.

You may break even, or even make a **** ton of money off this game, but it is because of the reputation they had built up from the last game.

Now we know who these devs are. We know they've lost it and don't care about fans, because unlike a movie in which things simply happen and you watch, here you are forced to speed run through half the game and make ****ty non-choices.

Gamers will stay away from next project because we will remember these burnt bridges.

The game feels like walking into a magnificent restaurant, being accompanied to a perfectly served table, very nice and beautiful music is playing in the background. The waiter serves you the most delicious steak you ever had in your whole life on an fine silverware. They bring the bottle of exquisitely aged vine to go with it.
Now here is the catch- just as you take the first bite, the waiter stabs you with a rusty screwdriver to the side. As you keep eating and drinking he keeps doing it again and again. No matter how delicious the meal, you no longer care and would not be able to concentrate on the meal and enjoy it.
In the end, you are being served a great looking bittersweet dessert but you never get a chance to taste it, they let you look at it very close and then take it away. Then you are politely walked outside of the restaurant

To sum it up I can say this game is an example where terrible story overshadows all other aspects. If you are looking for a game that has next-gen graphics, amazing audio and just want to enjoy very well done survivalaction gameplay, you should play this game for sure. If you are a fan of the first part and it's characters I would suggest you to stay away, as no matter how fluidly the game plays and no matter how graphics are amazing, you will just get frustrated and depressed by the story, and the enjoyment of the gameplay would be gone

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Very disappointing. ND took most everything that was great about part 1 and destroyed it. Audio, graphics and gameplay were top notch, but the storytelling and pacing destroyed what could have been a masterpiece. I wanted to stay spoiler free because I have been waiting to play this game for so many years and I wanted another incredible experience but I wish i would have just looked at the spoilers and saved my money. What broke the game wasn't the emphasis on strong female characters or the attention payed to the trans/gay side of the characters. In fact NDs storytelling seems to have just used Ellie/Dina/Lev as lazy inserts to appear "woke" and didn't flesh out any of these characters to their full potential. What destroyed the game in my opinion was how the handled Killing Joel. It's okay for a main character to be killed off, but when you slow torture one of the most beloved characters in recent videogame history right at the beginning of the game and then expect the player to empathize with the killer...well, the fans reaction speaks for itself. Such a shame that the writers had to ruin this game for the fans and everyone else who worked on it. Expand

Combat is mediocre but outdated and just like the original , and I won’t go on about how disgusting and horrible the story is but long story short they completely ruined any potential this series had (despite the first game not needing a sequel) I honestly wouldn’t but this for full price , Abby is the most boring character EVER and Joel dies in the most anti climatic boring and disappointing ending , but then the ending is the most cliche and lazy “revenge is bad story” where Ellie **** kills hundreds of WLF , just to get her fingers bit off and just let Joel’s murder go and let’s her walk off ,that is the equivalent of John Wick murdering all of his dog’s murderer’s friends and gang members , just to let the person who actually killed his dog go , it is stupid , if your purely Here for decent combat and good graphics , sure waste you 60 dollars but if you expect anything remotely similar to the first game , definitely don’t buy it

They can’t give us an absolute masterpiece of a game (the first game) and Just make a mediocre game with a **** story , you have certain expectations to ,meet

And lastly , the Flashbacks of Joel and Ellie are genuinely the only good part of this story , the fact that a sequel has to depend so heavily on the previous game to be good is so disappointing

Abby would've been likeable if they build up her badass motif then have her kill Joel at the end. That way, the players wouldn't feel like dropping the game from the first two hours. Besides, why, why one earth did our 50 yrld man-- probably in his 60s now, died when he was a fantastic survivor of the first game. You can't just say "oh he mellowed out", ask veterans, they still have their instincts. I love the gameplay. I like the graphics. Kuddos to them. I appreciate how they ttied to include more of the minority. I just wish they presented the story in a more jawdropping way. I actually would love the stoey and the theme of forgiveness if it was presented better, just a few tweaks would've made the game a masterpiece Anyways, still love Ellie. I have heartfelt respect and awe for all the hours that went into creating this game, but not only was playing this game unsatisfying, it actually runied my experience of the first game.

If you LOVED the first game, I'd avoid this game 100% to keep your memory of the first game unsullied. But you if don't care about story as much, or didn't play the first game, and you just want a fun stealth combat game with some cool ways to run around and kill stuff, it's got some great combat mechanics. Worth the money just for the gameplay.

Here's why I didn't like TLOU2: the inciting incident early in the game didn't work for me. It felt poorly executed--like a forced plot device--and it immediately broke the 4th wall for me. In order for the ENTIRE GAME to work, the player must be filled with rage and the desire for retribution. That's the lynchpin of the entire game. For whatever reason, that crucial scene didn't work for me. It felt forced and clumsy, so I didn't have the "revenge fuel" that's necessary to propel you through the rest of the (very long) game.

-I didn't mind WHO was killed early in the game. I did NOT feel short-changed or misled by the marketing. I have ZERO PROBLEM with that character being killed so early. I just feel like the implementation of that scene was not set up or managed properly, so I felt narrative dissonance and it didn't function as intended. I had ZERO thirst for revenge. It just felt like a narrative mistake.

-I loved the honest and non-gimmicky inclusion & representation of LGBTQ characters.

-I feel like the perspective shifts in the game pulled off some impressive narrative judo and, I actually preferred more gameplay and characters from the second half of the game.

Summarizing the ending is complex. It didn't work for ME because the inciting incident didn't work for me at the beginning of the game. In the final battle, I actually wanted the "hero" to die, NOT the "villain." I didn't feel cheated... I just felt like the final battle was forced and unnecessary.

The epilogue only makes sense to me if they're doing a Part III. If so, then this game is the bitter pill to swallow in order for "redemption" to work in a Part III. But if there's not a Part III, this game is just an unnecessary leap into oblivion.

I loved the first game, and wish I'd skipped this one.

Although the game has an outstanding graphic and more or less engaging gameplay (which still becomes a bit tiring after 20+ hours), writing and story in general are so weak and that's destroys everything. Moreover, Abby makes almost the half of the game absolutely meaningless. I wonder whose idea was that (Mr. Druckman perhaps), that's a total fail

The game was advertised as Ellie and Joel. This is what a lot of people wanted and expected, but it wasn't what we got after 7 years of waiting. It wasn't even really about Ellie when all is said and done.

The game was advertised as Ellie and Joel. This is what a lot of people wanted and expected, but it wasn't what we got after 7 years of waiting. It wasn't even really about Ellie when all is said and done.

The story was a "two sides of the same coin" comparison between two people, one of which no one really cares about. It wasn't written intelligently, but in the most "edgy" way a story could go... and there's a reason people don't write stories like this. The amount of plot holes that were embedded in the "redemption" arc for half the game can't be ignored and there were a lot of moments that confused me as to how they thought this writing would work.

There were a lot of great things about the game. The environments looked amazing and carried great atmosphere. The lighting, the greenery and the torn cityscapes were super cool. The core gameplay was very similar to the first with a small handful of new additions. After 7 years I would have expected a little more out of the gameplay, but at least they stayed true to SOMETHING from the game everyone loved while improving it a bit. The music was really amazing and I think the guitar sections were a really enjoyable little distraction. There are segments of the story that featured the Ellie & Joel dynamic, with a focus on playing as Ellie, which were hands down the best part of the game because it was what I expected the whole game to be. They were done excellently and made the ending that much more bitter. The new side characters that interact with Ellie were also pretty cool, but weren't used enough as Ellie's playable game time is too short to draw any connection with them. That being said, this is a story driven game, and they so willfully disgraced the first game and what we wanted that I can't give it anything better than what I rated it. Doing something for the sake of subverting expectations is a horrible idea, especially when the success and hype of something was dedicated to those expectations.

In the end I'm just mostly disappointed I didn't get to play the game I was advertised since Joel & Ellie had such an interesting and developed dynamic. They could have done something so interesting, but went for what they thought wouldn't be obvious. I expected them to do what they did because it was the easiest way to agitate your emotions and I really expected more from their storytelling. You'll really start to catch onto the story beats pretty quickly when you realize how they're telling it.

If this game was made after fans were "pressuring" (the money and demand was there, no pressure needed) ND to make a sequel after they said they wouldn't, I would never expect them to pull what they did. It completely alienates the people who loved the first game by taking the game in such a different direction. TLOU2 was possible because of what the first game did, and they acted like it was an entirely new IP where they just used the characters and story from the last game as cheap emotional tricks. The game didn't leave me satisfied in any way by the end of it and I'm really wishing I didn't play it because it just left a bad taste in my mouth and spat on what I loved about the first game.

If you want something cathartic, don't play this. If you want to be sad, go for it.

The story is complete garbage, not only does it fail completely to get the player emotionally involved but it’s also a complete disrespect to the previous game and it’s players. Characters are poorly written with almost no development and throughout the game. With that, the story gets pretty dull while playing it, to make matters worse, the decision of making the player play with Abby for half the game was terrible, because it feels like a chore and the story is even more dull than Ellie’s. Yes, naughty dogs marketing lied that Ellie was the main protagonists of the game. And I’m not even going to talk about the blatant LGBT/SJW propaganda that was clearly privileged over making a good well written story. I hope this will serve as an excuse to save 70€ because it’s clearly not worth it. 10/10 would not buy this flaming pile of garbage. to Expand

Unnecessarily dark and heavy. Rational thinking is a characteristic not present in this game. Abby is NOT an interesting character nor could I sympathise with her. She's a maniac and a killing machine showing no remorse for her actions whatsoever. Ellie isn't written much better Sending than Abby. The ending is making me question why you would play this. The story itself essentially prevents that experience from happening, Ellie's characterisation is gloom and depressing and very rarely is there any ability to have a fun experience or a humorous one. I feel the first game really captivated the audience because of the humour and the dynamics and the character developments. This game simply has none of that, it's all stripped away to leave you playing something that is violent and seeking to place your sense of morality under a microscope. I ask myself why? Considering I'm playing a game that is in an apocalyptic world where morality really has no place. Violence in itself is used as survival I dont understand why the writer has to make it more than that. The decision to make the plot more diverse I feel is good. However I think it's poorly written and in doing so stands at the forefront of the plot instead of taking a symbolic place in the background leaving the audience to reflect about later and develop their own opinions on those characters representing strong muscly women ,trans people and homosexuality. I just feel if you put social justice at the foreground of the plot to distract from how terrible of a story the game actually has, it really does do a disservice for the minorities represented and the message they want to express. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Amazon wouldn't let me review this, so I created an account here. Forget all the negative reviews about agendas, this game has WAY more problems going on to justify its terrible review scores.

The positives are that it is a beautiful game and the level-designs are top-notch. Gameplay is essentially the same as the first game, so take that as you will.

The negatives? Where to begin? The story structure is a complete mess. Flashbacks are leaned on heavily and add little depth to the story. In fact, the flashbacks are so out of place - characters killed earlier in the game get hours of meaningless flashbacks when you know they are already dead - that they become a chore to play though. It's almost as if the writers saw LOST and thought they could mimic the format but completely missed the point of the flashbacks informing the present character development.

Even worse is the treatment of the characters from the first game (arguably the best part of TLOU). The developers go out of their way to make the player dislike Joel and Ellie and spend 10-15 hours trying to make you like their new character Abby. it just doesn't work and they know it. If this new character was the main character in a new game, they would be just as bland and uninteresting.

These poor story choices devolve into ridiculous character decisions just to move the plot to the next set piece but make no sense given the context of a post-apocalyptic world. Then you have the message of "Revenge is BAD" while the game wallows in gory violent kills. Top it off with the cliche ending of letting the main focus of the revenge go free after killing hundreds of other people and the absolute mess is complete.

Gameplay is repetitive and becomes a chore; Hope you liked your first stealth kill animation because you'll be seeing it play out a hundred times exactly the same until the very end of the game. Likewise, you'll have to be pretty unaware to notice that the NPC enemies - despite claims of realism - are duplicated over and over to the point where you'll start wondering if you are fighting a clone army. Ridiculous scarcity of items - NPCs will shoot hundreds of rounds at you but suddenly their dead bodies have no ammo once you kill them - just makes the game drag on and on when a full clip would save the player hours.

In the end, the only feeling a player will really have is wondering why they spent 25-30 hours on a game that really concludes with no sense of accomplishment and characters that aren't worth the time spent.

So for my background before I explain the score. The Last of Us 1 has been an amazing game. Not my top games of all time, since I was not a fan of the game play but the story itself carries the game as a whole easily 9/10 just for that.

Now back to part 2. This game is complicated, if you ignore the story..... the game can easily hit 8/10 for me with how amazing the game looks. The story.....I dunno, I feel like this game is too deep into telling the players how **** life is in this game that they forgot how their original actors should act or behave....or anyone for that matter should act or behave in certain situations.

Gameplay: I'll start by saying the gameplay is an improvement from the last game. Upgrades, new weapons and some new actions. I wasn't a fan of the original and this one actually didn't change my opinion. They added prone which is nice but the AI is kinda laughable and the jump button is used in minor cases that they might as well not have implemented it. The dodge button is nice, but at the same time very over powered, where majority of the game you can just dodge out of the way and melee back to win, making using your cool new weapons pointless. Also quick time events...theres a lot that doesn't feel like its needed (RE7 syndrome). They added in like a few new things to kill, some bosses that overall has the same strategy for everyone of them. The gameplay is better than the original, by a good margin but overall mechanics still is not my cup of tea, and I understand how other players would love this type of gameplay.

Graphics: The graphics, by all means, is amazing. I love the atmosphere and how the world looks. This is where I personally think this game shines. Very little to say about this category, it is exceptional.

Sound: So sound is overall pretty good, The sound the npc's make when they die, the gunfire, atmosphere and some voice actors are great. Some negatives I have is some voice actors seem to have very little emotion when certain scenes happen. I'm unsure if it was the dialogue or it was the performance but most of the time I was not convince. Like the times they should be straight up shouting or frustrated just seems off....like they are midly annoyed if anything.

Story: Okay, this is a biggie. The story for the majority of the game....is basically misery simulator. You There is like.... at most 2 scenes in the game where I really like and the rest of it is just pain. The writing is at best only centers at telling you how horrible killing is and revenge is. Forget realistic character development or for that matter, realistic characters. For a game that tells you how horrible it is to kill others, they sure try to make it very fun for you to....basically kill others, with all these quick time events and awesome guns and stuff. Time skips that disrupt the story rather than enhance it, forcing an unlikable character down your throat, showing how likable she is....just makes me hate her more. Also the fact you have to play a very unlikable character for half the game....half of it.

Now for my final thoughts, I think this game is going to sell a lot. It is the predecessor of one of the most important game of last gen, of course it is. But it is not the same game by story standards. This is a Star Wars the Last Jedi feel. It will do amazing but it would divide the fandom. Some would love it, others won't. just like with Final Fantasy I am bias and I would grade with bias...because I am human and I like what I like. For Final Fantasy I graded that game a 10/10 because they made me feel like a kid again and they honored their characters and give a strong story telling that makes you feel invested and alive. The Last of Us Part 2 does little to honor their characters, and worse honor their previous game story telling. At best it is a 3/10 for me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm very sad to write this review. I ignored the review bombing in hopes that it was just angry fans stirring up trouble as they always do.

I'm going to start with the fact that people think people that are angry are just mad because of the LGBT references... The Last of Us: Left Behind introduced Ellie as gay, and it scored very well. Most people don't care about a character's sexual orientation, as long as the story is good. With that being said, the LGBT part of the story did seem to be "in my face" a lot, and made me want to say, "Yeah I get it, they are in love, cool. Get back to the story.", but I liked both Ellie and Dina.

The action/graphics in the game were very well done, there is no argument towards the technical aspect of this game being done well, that is the only reason why this review has a 1 and no a flat-out 0 though, I have to admit.

After that, this is where the positive/neutral things end. The entire point of the first game was looking for the cure, there has to be a cure. It was a good story developing Joel and Ellie as a "family" and developing their characters.

This story basically "forgot" everything that had happened in the first game, and ignored all of the development of Joel altogether. He was a very cautious person and didn't trust anyone, and in the second game this was thrown out of the window.

Abby kills Joel very early in the game, and it's unknown why, until you find out that the little girl that Joel saved in the first game was Abby, and she kills him because he killed her Dad, the doctor.

There is a point as well where you play as Abby, because it wants you to relate to her character, and I have to be honest, the moment she killed Joel she was no longer an interesting character, she was the antagonist. You're not going to make me relate with a character by trying to show their human side, after they kill the character that you've grown to love throughout the first game. I'm on Joel and Ellie's side, no matter who has to die.
After this, you have this entire drawn out story where Ellie murders everyone in her path to get to Abby for revenge, and then develop the relationship between her and Dina throughout this story, all for nothing.

Ellie kills Abby's friends, Abby kills Jessie, and after all of this... After all of the killing and fighting, at the end of the game, Dina tells Ellie not to leave, and Ellie leaves anyway to go find Abby. You have a long drawn out fight with Abby, and then Ellie lets Abby go.

All of the people that died in the game, was for nothing. All of the development between Ellie and Dina was for nothing. Abby leaves, Ellie loses her guitar playing fingers, Dina leaves, and Ellie is alone. They threw it all away at the end for what? To make you want a third game? I am not confident in Naughty Dog's ability to do anything except make a game that is technically good with scenery and action at this point.

The only thing that this game has done was disappoint me in Naughty Dog's ability to write a compelling story to keep me engaged, and it's very obvious that they struggle at "closing" a story that they were trying to make. If there would have been some type of closure, it would have been a better ending. Instead, they just left it as a cliffhanger, and made the entire game you just fought through felt like it was a hopeless waste of time.

What was the point anyway? Abby kills Joel, You kill everyone to get to Abby, Dina leaves you, and you don't even kill Abby. The ending is: Ellie loses everything, and you don't really have anything resolved other than you know why Abby killed Joel. There is no closure.

As a final note, the reason for the bad review is not BECAUSE Joel died. It's because of the way that the story was told. It was written and done early for shock value, and then they tried to piece together the reasoning afterwards. There are many games where main characters die, and it's done in a way to really make you love the game. This is not one of them. If they would have told Abby's story beforehand and let us grow to like the character, and let us understand her motives, in order to lead up to a climax where she kills Joel and we understand why she did it, then that would have worked much better. But instead, they chose to go for "shock value" points and it hurt the story a lot.
