Game was not rewarding and the ending sucked. Ellie never got to have her moment. She lost her father figure, her family and her fingers. Goes on a quest for a revenge and kills a bunch of people to get to the person that killed Joel to then decide that killing is bad and allows the murderer to get away. The 1st game story was alot better (story). Terrible experience! Don't play , save your time and money!… Expand

    After waiting a long time for this game to come out it was a huge let down to not just me but many of my friends. The gameplay and story telling was not nearly as good as the first and its sad to see the gaming industry moving more to appease the critics that have a hard time playing tetris than the people who actually play their games and understand the story that the premise of theAfter waiting a long time for this game to come out it was a huge let down to not just me but many of my friends.     Abby storyline, builds a connection with the shehulk we all know and hate. If done properly we might like her. We can see her struggles and the impact joels actions had on her life.

    Next: Abby goes on a perilous journey, tracking down joel, learning a lot about herself along the way. Meets new people, has new experiences, hears new stories.

    End: abby reaches Jackson and sees joel and tommy on patrol, not knowing its them. As joel and tommy are walking down the road, abby pops out from behind something to ask questions about joel. Graphics and game play is on point but it's like naughty dog developers had an social justice warrior next to them saying, "did you include the LGBTQ characters, what about different race characters, make sure to kill off Joel he is a white male" for a political agenda.     TLOUS part 2 pushes the limits in terms of graphics which are frankly gorgeous, the musical score is beautiful and hits at the    Naughty Dogs has yet again shattered all expectations, but for all the wrong reasons this time. I own all naughty dog games and in a world were Uncharted 4 and RDR 2 exist, TLOUS part 2 is a blatant cash grab and a poor excuse for a sequel. And here is why.

    TLOUS part 2 pushes the limits in terms of graphics which are frankly gorgeous, the musical score is beautiful and hits at the right times, voice acting is great, and actors elevate almost every line. This is expected at this point in the generation and is not why we are here. So, why is the story so shockingly bad?

    Characters just kind of wander from place to place, the interactions often leave you feeling dry, characters are paper thin, and on top of this it is littered with McGuffins and plot holes. It is a constant barrage of shock value moments, that leave you scratching your head in the end. This is a failure of storytelling on almost every conceivable level. TLOUS part 2 is how Not to do a Naruto revenge plot and is a wasted opportunity. Naughty Dog wanted to hit the golf ball so hard that they end up missing and breaking their back in the process.    … Expand

    Downsides: Its plot, no one gives a **** about Abby because she was not introduced before, and then suddenly out of nowhere she kills the main protagonist, one, if not the most loved character by the people that played The Last of Us before and then we are obligated to play her if we want to move on playing. I'm no writer, but this is **** up, I can see Joel dying, no problem but Joel isn't stupid, in The Last of Us (Part 1) he RAN OVER A GUY THAT WAS FAKING BEING IN PAIN AND NEEDED HELP, he had survival instinct, and he wouldn't take any chance, suddenly he is inside a house with armed strangers he does not know, in the middle of the room, not even keeping his back safe just waiting to die, if you want to kill Joel you could at least maintain him into character. And then the conclusion, horrendous, let me say I did enjoy the detail that Ellie lost 2 fingers and she couldn't play the music Joel taught her, as a way to say that she lost more than gained. But she killed over 100 people at the very **** least to get to Abby and then she has a change of heart? That is not how it works, it's ok to murder a pregnant woman to get to the woman you want and then you don't kill her, its inconsistency.
    I guess The Last of Us 2 was meant to make us feel the cold world that they live in, but guess what, I and many other people didn't feel **** we felt like the 7 years of waiting were completely shat on, killing Joel that way didn't make me go sad and all, it just made me pissed, he could have died coldly that is not what this is about, just had to **** kill him and made his death mean something, anything, it isn't worth killing a beloved character for the purpose of showing that the world is bad and cold, it is worth to kill him, with purpose, thing he didn't even have since Ellie didn't **** kill Abby, and got the revenge. You don't kill every **** person you see, that weren't even related to the death of Joel to have a change of heart at the end with the goddamn killer right in front of you.
    I'm honestly just going to believe that this whole joke was the aftermath of Ellie smoking weed with Dina and she just had a nightmare, a bad trip.    … Expand

    gameplay wise, great but not phenomenal.
    Story wise, knowing it's subjective but for me is a no. It seems like ND is trying too hard on virtual signalling, rather than crafting a plausible story like the previous title, they have instead focus on characters that don't make any sense. And as a gay man, I feel offended by ND try to use us as an excuse to defend the flaws of the story plots.

Nothing makes the player feel motivated to 'get revenge' as the entire reason players enjoyed the first game is destroyed in the beginning. What is the point of getting revenge if the developers remove the reason you picked the game up in the first place?

    It is nice to see LGBT characters central to the plot and their relationship doesn't feel overly forced, but their writing is so banal you don't even want to try caring about their protection. They go off on long, uninteresting conversations as if the writers are trying to make the writing and their backstories feel real, but it just comes off us predictable and bothersome.

    There is really nothing interesting gameplay wise that this game does better than any of its contemporaries; you walk into a new area and know exactly where the next firefight will take place after you reach the next cutscene.
    This is pretty much the underlying disappointment of this game - it is entirely predictable in every aspect.

    They say the game is being review-bombed for its inclusion of LGBT content and 'ugly' central antagonist, but may I suggest that it may be getting review bombed by the professional gaming industry with positive reviews because they WANT and NEED it to succeed.

    This is a complete failure in story-telling, character development, the thematic ties to its setting, originality and ultimately being a successor to one of the most beloved games of the 21st century.

    It just sucks. Sure, the graphics are great, the gun play is fun, but the story is just bad, so very bad. It feels like it is written by a 14 yr old, angsty girl who just went through her first breakup.

    Wow, what a way to further ruin everyone’s year. I reckon this is the worst thing that’s happened thus far in 2020 and that’s no small feat. TLOU 1 was probably the best single player gaming experience i ever had.     Devs apparently forgot what made the first game a masterpiece and disrespectfully threw it out the window, just to replace it with a crappy story worthy of the simplest soap operas and went all in the side aspects that don’t even deliver, such as creating larger levels that give you the illusion of choice that’s not there, exploration that hardly is rewarded, dated combat and crafting system, puzzles where the only challenge is to keep yourself together whilst having to do the same boring and unappealing quest again and again, and so many more.
    Obviously, the expectations for this game since day 1 were too high for everyone to be ever satisfied but I can’t really figure how they could’ve messed up the story any more than they have.
    Extra things to keep in mind: full of glitches, same combat system than the first game bit a few minor additions, ultra repetitive gameplay.
    Technically speaking they did a great job but to me it’s all taken away by the fact that they focused on the wrong aspects and that is widely known how much they overwork and burn out their devs.
    I truly hope that there are repercussions about the shameless false advertising that their team pulled off since I’m 100% sure that without tricking their fan base their sales would’ve been a lot less.
    They will keep on deleting bad reviews with bot pretext and accusing fans of bigots whilst the bast majority if us loved the first game and the DLC as well.

    Absolutely awful. Extremely disappointed in the way the story played out and how poorly it was written. I've been patiently waiting for seven years for this game and WAS a massive fan of the first. If you are debating on purchasing this game...just don't. Where to begin?

    First of all, Joel dies. Okay fine. People die. However, as others point out it seems like someone writing the story just wanted to rush to get rid of him.

    As we've learned from TLOU1, Joel is very untrusting of strangers. In TLOU2 he is also wanted by many people. So why is he giving his name and location to strangers? Very poor writing. I found the way he died to be in very poor taste as well. Abby. Trans? Okay. I'm fine with that. Being forced to play as her(?) after killing Joel? Why? What exactly is this suppose to convey to the player? That she had her(?) own motivation for Joel's murder? I don't care about Abby or her reasons. Yes, it's an post apocalyptic wasteland where people die every day, but why force us to play as some irrelevant character? Why have Joel killed by said irrelevant character? Imagine if this same formula was used in your favorite movie/TV show. Would Breaking Bad be as great if Walt died in the second season and the protagonist got replaced by some random character we weren't emotionally invested in? How about if Frodo gets killed by an Orc and then we have to spend a full movie with a POV of said Orc? This formula doesn't work. Joel dying towards the end by saving Ellie and telling her how he views her as a daughter wouldn't have left such a sour taste in my mouth. Or anything close to that. What really gets me is I remember seeing trailers of TLOU2 where you play as Joel further on in the story. It feels like the same scenes and game play were replaced by other characters in the actual game, so it's like Naughty Dog lied. Also, the directors self insert into the game where he has sex with Abby just felt weird.

    Yes, you read that correctly. The director of TLOU2 made a character of himself in the game and had sex with the trans character. Again, why?

    Playing on, the game just feels boring, repetitive, and pointless. I guess it's cool if your someone who's in 30 straight hours of torture porn. Ellie eventually tracks down Abby and kills her out of revenge? No. She let's Abby go. Because killing another human being is wrong...or something like that. Ya know, despite the fact she did not hesitate to kill hundreds of people since the start of her journey in TLOU1.

    Without a doubt, the story in this game is so bad I honestly don't want to play the first one anymore. It's like a close friend who got on drugs and then stole $60 from you. You don't want to go back to that friendship despite the good times you guys had.

    For all the "journalists" and "critics" saying people hate this game because it has LGBT+ characters in it. No. I'm glad companies are being inclusive to other groups, but the story in this game is just bad. To quote Neil Druckmann, director of TLOU2, "The Last of Us Part 2 isn't for everyone. I'd rather have people passionately hate it than just be like, 'Yeah, it was okay.'"

    Welp, you got your wish buddy. What a massive disappointment. So much wasted potential to what could have been the best game of 2020, maybe even the decade. This game was a huge let down. I will never purchase another Naughty Dog game.    … Expand

    I think what Naughty Dog did with the last of us part 2 is disgusting. Naughty dog lied to my face they said that Joel will be a playable character well if you count that 30 seconds horse riding at the begining of the game than **** yourself and also they have said that Ellie will be the only playable character in the game thats an other lie because after the first half oft the game you will be playing with a stranger who killed Joel brutally and you have to play with that character and the game wants you to love that character who killed Joel who i think one of my favourite gaming characters of all time. The second half of the story is unnecessary and cringe when i was playing with that stranger character whose name is Abby i felt disgusted because i did not want to play with her they tried to show the other side of the war and the people who we were killing with Ellie aren't evil and they have human sides too but they could have done it in only 1 chapter not in 3. At the second part of the game i felt like that Naughty dog ran out of ideas and they just mixed up something very fast. Not to forget that the ending of the game is really bad because when you are fighting with Abby and in the end Ellie can't kill her i mean i can see what Naughty Dog tried to show us that killing enybody isnt gonna solve anything but this is how it has to be ? Every major character in the game got killed and in the end i felt like i did this whole thing for nothing. The last os us 1 wast great because of its great characters and memorable father and daughter story line for Joel and Ellie but the second episode just lacks everything which the first was so good in.    … Expand

    First half was great. Dark, violent, and interesting. Second half was awful. Boring, tedious combat. Storyline was poorly written and bizarre. They should’ve stopped at the midpoint. I’ll never buy another naughty dog game on release day again.

The first game was phenomenal, amazing story with believable characters that we grew to care for. However for some reason they just decided to throw the impact and everything the first game set out to do away with part 2. Why, WHY would they think it’s a good idea to have a character we’ve never even heard of until this game, kill the most important and beloved character of this world they’ve built, in the first few hours of the game? Not only that, but make the players take control of this person for more than half the game? Playing the game and completing the story did not make me sympathize for this character WHATSOEVER. Putting the amazingly put together gameplay, graphics, and voice acting aside, the absolutely infuriating narrative completely destroys the experience. Hopefully Naughty dog will learn from this because this game had so much potential to be better than its predecessor. I’m gonna go replay Uncharted 4 now.… Expand

    I'm gay myself. and I can definitely say that even if you add a vegan non-binary trans person in the game it will not make it better. the ending is a spit in the face for the real die-hard fans of the franchise like myself. I was beyond excited and now I'm just sad because the last of us story is ruined for me forever. there is no coming back from this.

In the second game, they completely destroy everything that you loved about the story and characters you grew to love. Gameplay is good, but that's not what I am here for. It reminds me of the Star Wars Skywalker trilogy, taking characters and story and completely tossing them aside to make room for new characters that no one cares about. I had such high hopes for this franchise, but it seems that these days it just isn't worth getting attached to any series. 1/10… Expand

    Me and my friend just beat the game and it's just bad the game play and graphics as great but this game is marketed and sold purely on is narrative witch sucks it's nothing more then a badly done revenge story. It's amazing the first God of War trilogy did the revenge story so well while The last of us 2 does it so poorly considering there both Sony games.

The reason we all wanted a sequel was to see how the relationships of the characters we know and love are doing and maybe meet some new faces along the way. We all wanted to visit some old friends but nope naughty dog said forget that and throw pretty much a new cast of unlikable and unredeemable people for us to play as while completely disrespecting our main characters in every possible way. Very uncharacteristic decisions are made by our Joel Tommy and Ellie which without we don’t have this forced story. I love the first game so much I would call it my favorite game of all time without a doubt. This one however Is completely disrespectful. The flashback with Joel and Ellie at the museum is beautiful and especially where he sings Pearl Jam for her !! That’s what we want and I give those parts of the game a solid 10 so I’ll give the game a 1 just for those scenes alone but the store is a solid negative 7… Expand

    This is just sad, the last of us is and will be always in my heart, i loved the old naughty dog studio and what they did, i loved Amy Hennig's work while she was in naughty dog. This game is an insult to all fans who loved the last of us and the emotions they felt with that beautiful story that could now be something wonderful. Just sad.

The visuals are beautiful the clickers and stealth gameplay are still pretty fun, even if the AI are **** dumb or dead eye shots on and off. The story was absolutely trash that is why i am grading this and hopefully helping someone save 60 dollars and 20 plus hours of their life
    I knew they were going to kill Joel, because god forbid they make a second game with both characters. But the fact they **** this up this Badly is mid boggling.

    Then I thought they were going to save it at the very end and kill her and they **** it again to just end Elle by herself minus 2 fingers. This is as absolute trash story telling as the last episode of Dexter.
    I would have given this game a 0 for story but for people who don’t care about Joel or Elle they may enjoy the mechanics and style of game play.

Remembering the first game of the series, I understand why it deserves 9-10. It was a finished work with a clear structure. Last of us 2 destroys everything that we experienced in the first half. At the very beginning of the game, they kill Joel (This was the key character of last of us 1). Ellie, who witnessed this, goes to avenge it. But the game then itself embraces that it had no reason for it. She was made a character who, like a maniac, enjoys the very process of killing. The ending of the game destroyed the hope of the adequacy of the creators of the game. At the very end, in the confrontation between Ellie and Abby, I did not want to do anything, just put the gamepad aside and accept the fate. But the game counted my defeat, that is, ND made a decision for me to beat the character Abby, who fully redeemed the guilt. In terms of gameplay, the plus or minus game remained the same. In the graphic at the level of the previous ND game Uncharted 4. I advise you not to buy this game to anyone.… Expand

The storytelling is so lazy and sloppy. The flashbacks were written decent but they were all over the place and seemed to come too late for some of the characters to have any redemption. The creator (smash that early life fam) hated how much everyone resonated with the white male father being the hero, so he set out to to destroy everything he made in the first to subvert it. Whereas the "bad guys" were zombies, anarchy, and oppression, now they are order, gender norms, and Joel.. The original was a touching story of a budding father daughter relationship and overcoming PTSD, that was quite literally the only video game that mad me cry. Look even if you're "liberal" understand the overt political and racist message along with a terrible work environment caused multiple people to quit mid development and others to leak the insane details in hopes they would back down.

I'll start out by saying this- although it made Joel look stupid and completely out of character, his death wasn't actually a deal breaker for me. It made Joel's decision (to choose Ellie over saving lives) become realized as a truly wrong decision that brought some serious consequences his way and gave Ellie some serious motivation. I was actually liking the game 5-6 hrs in and thought it had some great heart felt moments that reminded me of the strong emotional connection between Ellie and Joel. The flash backs seemed like a great way of keeping Joel in the game and giving us more of that dynamic, while simultaneously reminding us that he was gone and to feel that huge loss. I'll also say that I've liked the franchise's nods to ultimately reveal Ellie as gay. It's been subtle and classy, and I never felt it was politically motivated or forced. I'm all for putting some different types of characters in video games, so even the 3 way love story between Ellie Jesse and Dina was fine with me. Ellie is gay, she's badass, and she's a super interesting character. I'm in.

    Cut to 10 hrs in....the story is a painfully slow build but I'm still interested and waiting for some major plot points. All the sudden I'm playing as Abby. Why? Why do I need to play as her to feel her motivations? Why is her tragic story suddenly more important than the franchise character's? I continue playing playing but after an HR in with her story I had completely lost interest and was playing on autopilot. The more context to the story, the less the story and the game's theme make sense. I gave it chance to explain, but to the best of my ability the theme is "revenge is bad", yet the antagonist Abby, who is blatantly made out to be the REAL protagonist, sought revenge yet walks away with the happier story! I just don't get the reasoning behind the message, and why it needed to crap all over THIS franchise. I played the original 6 times, and the dlc multiple times as well. For me this was all time most anticipated sequel. Cannot support. So disappointing.    … Expand

No one disagrees Joel deserved to die, he was never established as a morally good character and he made a selfish decision which condemned the human race. No one is angry Joel died we are angry about how he died. My take on this would be much different if we were introduced to Abby long before she brutally murders Joel. They set them self up with an insurmountable task of creating empathy for Abby. And they didn't even try, we got a ten minute scene where she saves a Zebra with her father then they reveal Abby is the person who convinced them Ellie should be murdered to save humanity. If the writers are trying to make the player empathize with Abby why would they establish her as the one who condemned Ellie which inevitably led to Joel killing her father?

    Later on in the story we are introduced to Lev who saves Abbys life. This prompts Abby to betray the wolves to save Lev. This decision of Abbys feels like a fruitless attempt by the writers to establish Abby as a morally good character in order to gain empathy from the audience. They're trying to define Abby as selfless contrary to her making numerous selfish decisions. It's hard to say anything for certain about Abby's character because every other decision is conflicting. One moment she is selfless the next she is selfish. When it comes to condemning Ellie her morals are for the good of the many but when it comes to saving Lev her morals are for the good of the few. She gets very angry when she finds out Ellie has killed her friends yet she's already betrayed these friends and was prepared to leave these friends behind to help Lev.

    The story overall is nonsensical and revolves around and characters literally abandoning and losing everything in a fruitless quest for revenge. Both Abby and Ellie quite literally sacrificed everything over avenging the deaths of two people in a world where everyone has lost someone. Death and violence is around almost every corner of this world. Yet for whatever reason these two people are so special our characters travel thousands of miles killing hundreds to enact their revenge. Even after watching the bond which is formed between Joel and Ellie in the first game I have a hard time believing that Joel's death was enough to bring on this murderous rampage. Especially after Joel and Ellie’s rough relationship has been established.

    This world isn't the same world we were put into in the first game. There is no hope in this world, there is only violence and sadness. The violence is so over the top that by the end of the game I was completely numb to it all. The game heavily relies on shock value that was brought about through overly violent and grotesque actions perpetrated towards beloved characters which was so overly used it left me feeling nothing when the game came to it's final conclusion and this mattered the most. At no point were we given any sort of relief or loving character development which gave us respite from the sadness and violence of this world previously. In the first game Ellie provided 90% of this relief from the awful world we were witnessing. But she is now a shadow of her former self, despite spending her years safe and sheltered in a settlement with electricity she has completely lost the spark we saw in the first game. The conclusion of the game is hollow, hundreds die in this needless revenge plot and one singular person being saved who the player has established no empathy for is supposed to bring meaning to all the meaningless violence.    … Expand

    Good things upfront, it features some minor improvements to the gameplay of the first installment, it has the best 'game journalist' difficulty mode, so that I don't even doubt that aforementioned professional 'critics' got through the game in a breeze. Aside from that it looks good graphically but that shouldn't be a surprise.

    Tlou2 is one of those sequels that miss their previously established target audience by a long shot. (Think of Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts) While not as much gameplay wise even more-so in terms of story and character development.     And later on, they will desperately attempt to convince you what a wonderful person Abby is after murdering our beloved favorite character and she gets away with everything! Apparently because her dad was the Fireflies' surgeon you kill at the end (a random NPC you see for 2 sec that's barely a character.) she's justified somehow. How lovely.

    If you value storytelling, writing, plots, and character development, then this game is master class on how NOT to write your story.

    TLOU2 is NOT a sequel to TLOU, it's an extremely pretentious metacommentary on violence and a statement about the "cycle of the revenge." It's this silly tit for tat revenge story. Not something even worth committing to writing.

    Don't believe most of the positive reviews. They're corporate shills lying to you, saying that we're bots or whatever. PLEASE NOT BUY THIS GAME. I implore you... or you'll be as upset, disappointed, and depressed as I was playing this. The leaks were 100% true and sadly I didn't heed them. I gave them the benefit of the doubt because of their reputation. I've been a ND fan for over a decade and this game is massive F*** Y**.    … Expand

The game has the most immersive graphics, zombies, physics and perfection to minute details but the story is completely **** Joel dying within the first hour of gameplay. Shemale Abby and her plot.     The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
