    The Last of Us Part II - is a poorly written technical masterpiece. The right way to deal with it is to move on frankly, it was franchise where we all cared more about story and character and that's what is doesn't have anymore!!

    After finding out this terrible site was deleting reviews I decided to make my own “honest” review. The Last of us II. Stunning graphics. Decent gameplay. That’s literally it for the positives which is why I’m being fair & giving it 3. When a game literally makes me not want to play it anymore there’s something wrong. There’s a point in the game where something happens to the mainAfter finding out this terrible site was deleting reviews I decided to make my own “honest” review. The Last of us II. Stunning graphics. Decent gameplay. That’s literally it for the positives which is why I’m being fair & giving it 3. When a game literally makes me not want to play it anymore there’s something wrong. There’s a point in the game where something happens to the main character(not going to spoil). Then the game for whatever reason makes you play as Abe. When that happened I was done with the game. I think I’m being extremely generous with my 3 being that the game made me STOP PLAYING. I ended up watching the rest through a let’s play.
    Side note. I think it’s extremely dishonest that metacritic & certain journalist have a problem with all the negative reviews by saying they’re are bots & saying this & that but they have no problem at all with all the 10/10 review bombs. This is why I’m no longer looking at sites like this & ign for my reviews. I’ll be going to trusted sites like Steam (user reviews)    … Expand

    In the first hours of the game, there´s a moment where Ellie enters a synagogue and ecounters a well-know saying: "...it takes but one candle to dispel the darkness." Unfortunately, there isn´t one goddamn candle in sight in TLOU2.

    The only reason i won´t give this game a 0 is because the visuals and graphics are amazing. The rest is just atrocious. It´s almost as if Naughty Dog despised the original game and decided to aggravate the fans (like myself). And before you say that it´s unfair to grade a game based exclusively on the story, that´s what Naughty Dog games have always been about - top notch storytelling and visuals made interactive by average gameplay.

    TLOU was first and foremost a story about SURVIVAL. It was the story of how 2 completely different characters found in each other the reason to keep moving on, even in the darkest of days. Joel found in Ellie what he had lost in his daughter, and Ellie found in Joel what she couldn´t have from her mother. It could be bleak and somber at times but it never lost sight of this concept. This connection meant you always had a reason for moving on. And the ending, while not happy nor sad, offered hope and reinforced the quest for SURVIVAL (as mentioned previously).

    TLOU2 completely dismisses its predecessor and serves a depressing tale about selfish revenge, and an endless self-serving cycle of violence that leads nowhere. It tries to vilify those we admire and humanize those we despise. It forcefully lectures the player into believing there are no heroes nor villains, no good or evil and that everything is justifiable. What a major disappointment. The same minds responsible for one of the best stories of the last generation created a sequel with the sole purpose of "getting people riled up". In this instance, they have succeded.     A great game must be completely ruined by political agendas. I was completely turned off through the entire game by the almost constant portrayal of Ellie as a lesbian with her girlfriend.

    I don't really want to get into details again. Graphics, Sounds, Music and the general athmosphere is amazing. Thats were the 4 points coming from. But the Story is not only illogical, forced and just wrong... Its not really "good" either. The only emotions I had while playing it were attached to characters I know since part 1. Naughty Dog failed to build up new characters well. Even afterI don't really want to get into details again. Graphics, Sounds, Music and the general athmosphere is amazing. I had the feeling he got totally lost in his vision and forgot, what made part 1 good. Since this is a Story Game, I focus on the Story the most while writing this review and thats simply not good... The story was plausible, characters were plausible, and now? It's all destroyed, more and more, the more you play. The story in this is abysmal many people are outraged about the LGBT content and honestly I don't care either way they exist in real life and therefore can be written into videogames what I dislike about this is how they've shoehorned in extended gameplay as an enemy character who frankly I hated because she killed Joel and then when you finally reach the end you don't even kill her, honestly some of the most poor plot choices I've seen in a game yet.

    Gameplay is 10/10 story is 0/10.

    If it was any other series this would be a run of the mill triple A game but they really wet the bed with this one

    This is just another "humans only suck" type story. Just as pointlessly brutal and narratively bland as the Walking Dead ended up being. This game is another entertainment disaster. After slaughtering countless people in the path of revenge, many of whom weren't actually bad people at all. The one who is the target of your insane ire is left to live on....     The first game and dlc were perfect stories with amazing gameplay. Now I'm left feeling empty and struggling to point anything I liked about the overly long and incoherent story. No real changes to the combat and gameplay, which is fine because I still enjoyed it. False advertising in the trailers.

Time passed and I was playing the game just to complete it. While playing as Abby I lost it even more but gain more interest when they “killed” Tommy. I was hyped for how the game was evolving. When I got the the second to last fight of Ellie and Abby, I was shocked with the way they let Ellie live(I loved that). When Ellie went back for Abby I was hyped, waiting for the final fight. Once I got there and completed everything, fought Abby and I was expecting her death but Ellie let her go. That was a complete dissapointment for me, I felt like I wasted my entire life waiting on this game to basically get screwed by a **** ending by Ellie letting Abby go. Story was terrible, terrible start and terrible ending. Gameplay is awesome and the game looks beautiful. The game was not worth the wait. It’s not worth playing at all, I would’ve rather watched the gameplay on Youtube than playing the whole game and feeling like crap. NOT WORTH IT AT ALL.… Expand

    This game is not telling a story it's trying to push a message. A poor one at that and it disregards all of feelings we had towards the existing characters.

    Remember if someone kills your dad you'd best just get over it.

    The reason players don't care for abby
    is not because they're bad and they don't see her pain, it's because Abby isn't a part of our tribe, i.e. Joel and Ellie. Players want her dead and she rightfully should be. This game is so unfulfilling it's like having to sneeze but you can't.

    This story should have ended with the first game.

    Oh and all those disingenuous 10 out of 10 scores, that's disgusting.    … Expand

    This one was tough, let's get the good stuff out of the way first:

    Graphics; Best I've ever seen together with Red Dead Redemption 2. Sound: Not as memorable as the first game but still very good, on a technical level it's amazing. Gameplay: The controls are responsive and the animations are among the best I've seen in a game.     Gameplay: The controls are responsive and the animations are among the best I've seen in a game. The AI is not the best but a great improvement over the first game. The dodge and prone mechanics are both nice improvements over the first game.

    Now the bad stuff, I'll start lightly;

    The pacing is sometimes worse than the first game due to more open areas, I felt like there was a bit too much exploring before something happend in the story. The first game had more evenly spread out portions of combat/exploration/cutscenes.

    The new characters aren't all that intresting, but that's mostly because it's hard to avoid comparing them to Joel and Ellie who are always excellent. Dina is one of the worst and most annoying characters I've ever seen in a game, and totally unintresting. Abby was better but I felt her story could have been told through DLC or a spin-off.

    The story in general is not bad, I actually enjoyed alot of it. The main problem I had with the game was Joel's fate. How they could do this to a beloved character that I waited 7 years to go on an adventure with again is unbelivable. A few hours into the game I felt absolutely no reason to go on and finish the game. What kept me going was mostly because I enjoyed the beautiful scenaries.

    I had no real issue with the characters being gay/bi/whatever, but after hearing the word "bigot" twice in the first hour I kinda understood that this was gonna be another one of those "message over story" productions.

    This could have been so great, the potential is surely there. But Naughty Dog went for shock value instead of something more traditional and maybe boring. The problem with shocking the audience is that now something is broken that can't be fixed, and if there's ever a third game I couldn't care less about it.

    I had waited 7 years, I was hyped as hell, I trusted you Naughty Dog, I payed $60, and I got spit in the face, that's how I feel. So while the game looks like a 10 for someone who's not invested in the first game like I was, for me... it will be a genuine 0.    … Expand

    This game had great graphics,sound and i actually enjoyed the gameplay/stealth mechanics. The reason i am giving it such a low score is because I am a huge story person and the story in this game is so bad with so many plot holes with its linear progression that it made me not even want to finish it.

I do know how the entire story unfolds and ends, and that's not what bothered me.     Regardless of whatever moral lesson, or story the writers want to convey, i'm never a fan of forcing actions or narratives onto others. I'm not going to play a game that forces onto me, an action that I wouldn't want to make. This game does this SEVERAL times, many many times, to the point that it feels like the writers are just badgering & forcing themselves on the player; there's no real choice.

    +1 point for the amazing and beautiful world-building.
    +1 point for the accessibility features
    +1 point for the science-based, very well researched world plot and character development/psychology.
    -1 point for lack of choice/consequence in your gameplay (it was absolutely on rails)
    -3 points for several VERY FORCED story narratives, which i'm absolutely not ok with. You have absolutely no choice when it comes to the story even if it's morally conflicting to you.
    -1 point for lack of more thought provoking puzzles.
    -2 points for lacking gameplay (poor stealth system, repetitive gameplay... it was incredibly boring)

    Again, last of us would've made for an incredible movie... I just didn't enjoy it as a GAME that i'm supposed to interact with, and be able to make my own choices. I don't really enjoy people forcing their own views or decisions on me... especially not the ones in this game.    … Expand

Я прошел игру, и все что у меня осталось это разочарование. Все те показаные ранее сюжетные ролики были фэйком, так как в игре эти моменты были переделаны. Самое хорошее в этой игре это флешбеки Джоэла и Элли. Ну и графика.     The graphics and mechanics are really nice, but the story is frustrating. I constantly felt bad while playing the game, it's a sad story that forced me to constantly take decisions I disagree. I kept playing believing that something would happen and playing through all that would be worth it, but it wasn't. The ending is simply a nail in the coffin of a sad and depressing story.

    Great graphics aside, I felt nothing more than resentment. Not at the game, but at the writers that squandered a great part 1. Finished the game, but that felt like a chore. Seems like it was written by emotional 14 years old; it is not very intelligent.

    Not mad about what happened, mad about HOW it happened and WHEN. Storytelling was a TOTAL DISASTER, there is not a loose end that you can actually grab and say: "THIS PART IS WORTH IT!" LOL

    Graphics are one of the best tho but since this is a story-base game, they still deserve a 0.

If I can't enjoy the story I can't enjoy the positives of this game. I was so excited for this game. Now I'm sad I played it. I regret it. Not even about the money at this point.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To talk about The Last of Us 2, you have to begin with The Last of Us. The story was incredible, with likeable characters. The beginning and end both brought tears to my eyes. The world was beautiful, the story incredible and the gameplay was solid for its time. The last of Us 2 had a beautiful world, maybe the prettiest on PS4. Gameplay has not really moved on since the last game and it felt dated. Also, the world felt empty at times. The story and character are both trash. I put them in one group, because they are related. The old characters are almost unrecognisable, only in the flashbacks you get a Last of Us feeling. The new characters are not likable, either because they are written poorly, or because they are to briefly in the game. I get the feeling they changed the story mid development and this also killed a lot of character development.

    Also this games feels very manipulative. And that is not a bad thing. Good writing is manipulating your feelings, whilst not making you feel manipulated. This game is so obvious in its manipulating, it takes you out of the game. I must admit the death of Joel felt **** and made me hate the game for a moment, but the could have saved it with good writing. The didn’t. They made you playing as Abby. Abby is a weirdly unlikable character and they make you play as her for a good portion of the game. First I thought I didn’t like her because she killed Joel, but I could understand where she is coming from, so that was not all of it. Was it because she looked weird? I would like to think I am more enlightened than that. But I did like the MMA fighter in the Mandalorian(edit: Gina Carano) and found here believable. After finishing the game I found out they used the body model from a female weightlifter/athlete, the face of a second women and the voice of an third women. They created an uncanny valley effect I couldn’t get over. I think it can be done well, this was not it. But in the end it doesn’t matter. I didn’t care about the characters, I didn’t care about the story, I didn’t care about the game.

    I lost my job of 20 years the week before this came out, so as a fan of part 1, I was excited I had the time to play this game. This game made me feel worse than losing my job. Neil Druckmann: “The Last of Us 2 is not meant to be fun.”. Well Neil, mission accomplished.    … Expand

The graphics are amazing, but the thing that caught my eye about TLoU1 was the amazing story, - the relationship between Joel and Ellie, the character build-up and the way they don't act as "heroes", but they act human. (Joel, saving Ellie, even though it was selfish, it was human! We grew to love her and also didn't want to sacrifice her!) We waited so long for TLoU2 and we got this?! One of the most loveable characters, just killed with a golf club? Him, giving his identity to a stranger is way out of character! Totally not a way Joel would act! Then, we have to play as the same person that killed Joel, and we have to try and kill the character we grew to love SO MUCH? And you expect us to just feel good about playing as her and betray our favourite characters? In the first game, when the moment came, we didn't want to sacrifice Ellie. Why would we want to kill her now? Why would we want to play as the character that murdered the fan-favourite? You worked so hard and I recognize that. But we waited so long, had our hopes up for another story with our beloved characters - the duo, Joel and Ellie. Why did you think it would be a good idea to force us to play as Abby?     However that's it, all it gets are 3 points, it does feel like it tried to fill an agenda, and thus is doing so, it almost completely threw away what the 1st game built up, all that love and affection you had towards the main characters, it gets thrown away, played with, plus they also lied about not having to kill the dogs, and most of all, in the previous trailers, they made it seem like you could play as Joel/ that Joel would be alive for most of the game, but nope, killed him off in a stupid way, they completely made him dumb, in the first game, he ran over someone to be cautious, because he didn't know if that person was actually hurt, so to not take any chances, he ran them over.
    So to just be that careless, and just die like that?
    It enraged me, it made me close out the game.
    However I finished it, for the sake of "Maybe it'll get better" boy was I wrong, should of just stopped playing.    … Expand

    After playing 20+ hours of the game i must say. Overall game is pretty bad. Only good part is graphics and music. The gameplay feels old and uninspirit. Shooting part is straight up broken, just as broken as stealth. Writing is awfull. Overall i give it 4/10 it does not deserve more.

    If you care about the first one, I suggest you not to play this.

Naughty Dog lied and used familiar characters for the trailer to maintain the secrecy and "Spoiler-Free" nature of the games actual story. Which is tasteless and unwarranted.

Today at 17 after playing Part II I admire the graphics and scenery but the majority of the game I was just on autopilot in the story... until the last cutscene. I thought they had to be joking. The world looks amazing and you truly feel you are years into the apocalypse. But half way in, the game forces me emphasize with Abby by making me play as her. The game shows her softer side and the suffering she endured from Joel's actions in game one. You make soms friends, you pet a couple of dogs, find and help the only transgender kid in the entire apocalypse and your daddy dies. But after all of this (10hours) I still found myself not caring for this girl at all. Once upon a time 'the last of us' would find it enough to insinuate thinks like love, personal growth, but also sexual preference and/or identity. But part 2 has lost all sense of subtlety.
    Instead it force-feeds you that, what once was said with just a look or hint. I get that Lev wants to be a boysoldier but was born a girl. I got it when his former scar friends called him Lily. I got it when Lev then calls atention to it. And i still got when his sister again spells it out for anyone that must have missed it the first couple of times.
    I get it! You scored and made your progressive point. I dont care! But stop thinking im stupid and stop ramming it down my throat.

    The whole Abby part took me out of the game.
    I want to like her but she killed and tortured what feels like my father and or mentor.
    I found that, while playing as her I stopped looting (which is a shame because the environments are gorgeous),
    I couldn't be bothered to play stealthy and didn't really care if and when I died.
    I basically rushed through the game just to get it over with. Unbelievable that journalists gave the grades they did!!! Anything above a 7 is a complete bought and payed for LIE!    … Expand

Set five years after the first game, The last of us part II is a game about the cycle of revenge/violence, and does a very good job of setting a dark, gritty, and depressing atmosphere. The game also sports incredible top of the line graphics and world design but still has mediocre gameplay. However the problem arises with the story and narrative, rather early in the game (somewhere around the two hour point) the main protagonist from the first game (Joel) is killed off. although his death is what kick starts the main plot, many people including myself agree that his death felt very rushed, meaningless, and retcons his established personality traits from the previous game, almost as if it were done simply for shock value. after Joel's death you embark to Seattle as Ellie on a mission for revenge, as Ellie you are joined by Dina, Jesse, and Tommy as the four set out brutally killing members of Abby's crew in retaliation. Abby by definition is the antagonist in this story but her character is done no help by being thrown under the bus by killing Joel with no explained motivation, not until halfway through the story when you are forced to play from Abby's perspective are you given her motivations for killing Joel. You are forced to play as her for a majority of the game as the writers try and make you sympathize with her character. I aswell as many other people were unable to sympathize with her due to pre-established resentment from her actions which led to a rather miserable experience for her portion of the game. The ending of the game is made worse by the fact that Ellie sacrifices everything in her life to seek her final revenge against Abby only to not kill her and let her free. The underlying message of the game is that revenge is bad however this led to an abysmally un-satisfying ending and story. In my own opinion the fact that Joel and Abby ran into each other is deus ex machina and unbelievable made worse by how in an incredibly suspicious situation, Tommy and Joel throw all of their previous survival knowledge from their 24 years of being in the apocalypse out the window. Joel's death feels skimmed over and too convenient to the plot. There really wasn't any relationship between two characters that felt as meaningful as the one shared between Joel and Ellie therefore i found myself not caring about the other characters on screen. The entire game I watched my favorite characters from the last game lose as the antagonist got her way with every situation she found herself in. after completing the game i feel like i wasted my time even playing it at all. For fans of the first game the sequel is a huge middle finger as you watch your favorite characters get dumped on, half of them being shells of who they were in the first game. the story feeling completely pointless with a terrible ending. The intentional misleading and false advertising in the trailers. and Naughty Dog's DMCA antics leading up to the release of the game. This game would be a one or two out of ten if weren't for the graphics and world design, and after finishing it i feel like i wasted my time and money. If you're a fan of the first game i strongly DO NOT recommend buying The last of us part II, however if you're a casual gamer looking for a gritty, brutal, stealth combat game i'd recommend picking this up on sale as it is not worth the 60$ retail price. I believe that if Naughty Dog wants to save this series for a third game they either need to remake the story of the second game or deem it as a passion project independant and non cannon to the first game. feel free to disagree with my review as it is my opinion based off my experience with the game.… Expand

    And the story... I've played last of us remastered for the first time only 1 month ago, and I remember what great feelings I had ending it. Yes Joel is a jerk killing all those people and the end, but he is our jerk. He goes for it to safe a girl he and we truly began to love and by the way who was not asked permission to be killed. In part 2 they show us how great of a city Jackson is letting people in, how Joel is a good man sacrificing himself to help a stranger, how Ellie feels bad as **** killing people for the sake of revenge in her path. On the opposite they show us what awful decisions wolfes make with all that torture, endless killings, not letting people in. And Abby one of there's best soldiers, even here friend tolled her she is an awful person. On here way she has ZERO regrets for any lives taken and at the beginning she tortures Joel not for the sake of getting iinformation from him but for pleasure. And they want us somehow to understand and show sympathy towards Abby????? I hated every seconds of playing her and then found myself hating the game itself.    … Expand

    The worst sequel story ever presented, period!
    Authors tried to show the human side of Abby by making us play her story line, but failed miserably. Disgusting. Technical and art side of the game is good however.
    Every firefly should be dead.

TLOU2 is a psychologist’s worse nightmare. *Spoilers ahead* it deals with unnecessary issues.. like Ellie who is lesbian (who didn’t need to be lesbian, but just was for the sake of it?), Dina who believes she’s is lesbian but is unknowingly pregnant from a recent relationship with a guy (What!? We’re watching teen mom now? Doesn’t know what sexual orientation she is and is brainlessly falling pregnant?), Owen who cheats on his pregnant girlfriend Mel (with Abby, who he has previous history & sexual tension), characters dealing with PTSD, characters almost killing and also killing pregnant women (WTF??), then about a child killing his own mother (and that he had to.. more WTF??).. some real messed up stuff. Was any of this, necessary to be in this game? NO..

    On top of that.. you are forced to play a character you hate, Abby (who kills Joel).. as a gamer you feel betrayed.. So what’s the point of that? You want us to understand or sympathise with her actions of killing Joel? What’s the moral of the story? What is that saying to us? Every bad act that someone does in the real world.. they have a good reason?? it’s so soo messed up.. and stupidly throw in revenge as a good reason to do anything..

    Young impressionable gamers would get brain damage from this game and the psychological and mental issues it deals with.

    I’m sorry Neil Druckmann (writer, director & vice president of Naughty Dog, maybe you had too much power) but you should have listened to your team members who questioned these story choices and pushed back the idea. In theory it may have sounded good, as an idea, to swap characters or to the enemy character half way through and to have all this crazy, messed up characters, relationships and issues.. but it’s not what gamers wanted.. or needed.. it’s not a soap opera or TV series. It’s a massive mis-step on Naughty Dog’s part.

    In the first TLOU you had this great relationship (dad & daughter like, Joel & Ellie) and the dynamic between them was sweet, charming and funny.. his love and care for Ellie to save her, like she was his own daughter was beautiful.. to play and watch.. it should have continued in this game, their adventures or misadventures of survival.. in this scary new world. The dynamic, conversations, characters did not need to be changed.. but you ruined it (Don’t fix / change what’s not broken).

    You destroyed that by killing off our beloved character, Joel.. and bringing in unnecessary characters, messed up story lines and issues.. at the end of the game, when the credits roll I was left feeling.. seriously WTF? Ellie came back home, her partner left her with the baby.. and she loss 2 fingers.. and that’s how you end it?? At least at the end of the first TLOU you are left feeling good with optimism, positivity.. and hope.

    At the end of TLOU2 you are left feeling disappointed and empty.. and your care of characters (and franchise) has gone out the window.

    Graphics, gameplay, music, sound, cutscenes are great.. but the story, characters are a massive let down. Sorry Naughty Dog you missed the mark.    … Expand

    I did not enjoyed playing this game. The plot seems too false and out of characters. All the new characters are poorly written as well as their's relationships development. Maybe that's because devs wanted to push too many diverse things in a story driven game? All that just for the sake of bigger drama and darker feelings. I'm disappointed with the game.

    If the story of a story driven game is not good enough, it isn’t good enough. Abby’s story is good, but she didn’t need to have such a big part. 10 hours of a character nobody cares about. Poor writing altogether and even worse delivery. I’m gonna pretend this game was just a dream Ellie had.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
