    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The story is the main selling point of this franchise for me. I have finished the 1st game once on ps3 and at least 3 times on ps4. The story and writing of part 1 was so engaging that the narrative was enough to make you push forward through the game. If it was another game, or a similar game with a weak story, this gameplay would bore you enough yo drop the controller and stop playing. This was my main problem with part 2. It bothered me that they killed Joel during the first few hours of the game; although it was effective enough to motivate me in hunting down the perps, the developer decided to interrupt that momentum and had me play as Joel’s killer. Her story, background and supporting characters just did not resonate with me. I was bored while playing as her. The gameplay’s flaws stick out like a sore thumb and I was very close to not finishing the game. I did eventually, and was let down. The only good parts of the game were still whenever Joel and Ellie were together on the screen. The flashbacks of them brought smiles to my face and the last talk between the 2 of them was heart wrenching. I felt more for a few minutes of these flashbacks compared to 10 or so hours playing as Abby. Not to discount the time and talent spent on the game, it was absolutely gorgeous. Everything on the technical side was next to nothing. The little details really make it a Naughty Dog game, but sadly, for me at least, the story and narrative did not deliver.… Expand

    The heavy push for strange and out of place topics in combination with recycles game mechanics and a weak, illogical story filled with plot holes make this game a disappointment beyond belief. If you care about a good story, skip this one at all costs and spend your money on games and developers that actually care about their game

    After 7 years we were waiting for a worthy sequel to the masterpiece that was The last of us and what they give us is one of the worst games possible, the characters were bland and unlikeable most of the time the interactions seemed forced and cringeworthy.
    They kill Joel at the beginning of the game, how can you kill such a beloved character like that?? the Joel Allie dynamic was what made the game so great to begin with, and on top of that, we're forced to play 10h as the character who killed him? by the way, shes's one of the worst characters in videogame history not to talk about the sex scene no one wanted to see...
    The game visuals are stunning but it couldn't make up to all the flaws not even close.

    Very important character disrespected in a terrible way right after the start of the game. They used the power of the image of the character just to push us to buy the game (even more disgusting).     Gameplay wise it is very cool and fun.
    The gameplay mechanics and AI are incredible and very fun.

    But the story is so bad and the choices about the characters are so delusional that you just can't play it.
    They hunt you down through the entire game and you just can not enjoy it. I am sorry.
    I thought that I was going to leave a good review, but I felt so disrespected that I just can not.

    What were you thinking?

    I still respect all the work and effort to create this game, good job.
    But story wise.... My God. Just NO.

    I am not being nice, I know and I am sorry for that, but we are sick of being tricked into buying your trash covered in glitters and fake good ratings (we all know they are fake, we just try to trust you).
    I hope that one day you will all learn your lesson.

    I am going to end this review with one of the most used lines in games:
    - there will be consequences for every decision you make.

Although a story-based game, nothing makes sense with too many plot holes. Joel deserved better and the Joel we know would not have made such a mistake that would lead to such a ridiculously stupid death. To then be forced to play the character we hate and know nothing about all of a sudden and then try to kill our second beloved character is just horrible writing and for a game of this level and expectation just garbage. The ending is a dumpster fire of its own. All that time and effort built to kill Abby as well as killing hundreds on the way and it doesn't even take place. So why did we even play it? And a flashback of Joel results in this? Don't make me laugh! Joel was an ultra-survivor that trusted nobody and did everything to survive and would not have hesitated or had second thoughts about killing anyone to ensure his and his groups survival especially when it came to ellie. He was the last person that would have mercy when it came to survival. But he was no torturer either. Abby and Joel are nothing alike and there is just absolutely zero growth in this entire game and as said before, the game in the end felt pointless with just angered players left over with the stupidest choices possible. This plot could have maybe worked but everything was done wrong and out of order as well as out of place. Terrible overall and should be known as the worst let down of gaming history. Support the graphics and gameplay all you want, but I didn't feel much of a difference from the first game as the first game had gone beyond its time already in these categories so I refuse to give anything above 0. Everything has deteriorated and I refuse to accept this as the next game. I am still waiting for The Last of Us 2...… Expand

    I hated the game so much that I scored a 0 for the first time.
    The lowest score I ever played was 6.
    It's hard to imagine such a famous game cheating players in the trailer. Where all the trailers show Joel, it's actually Jesse.
    I saw the press today that it sold 4 million copies, so I came here to rate it and tell people who didn't pre-order it that it's a piece of **** don't buy it.

They seemed to have forgotten that what they were creating was a game meant to be played by a person. The execution and sequencing was that bad. If you want to appeal fans from part 1 you never want to arrange stories like this. I register an account on Metacritic to write this. La historia mal, es verdad que es un juego con gráficos increíbles y una jugabilidad espectacular pero se supone que para venir de un juego como the last of us 1 que lo espectacular de ese juego es su historia que la historia sea tan mierda y los personajes de esta entrega sean tan poco carismáticos aparte de darle un desenlace a personajes de su precuela que sea tan mala como para eliminar un personaje así de rápido sin ninguna relevancia me parece una mierda como también que Ellie debería vengarse pero la perdona sin ninguna razón coherente y el fin jajaja de eso ni hablar… Expand

    The game is so depressing, once it was over, i took a 1 hour shower rethinking why i chose to play this game, all the good characters get killed and the ending made me want to claw my eyes out. It had good gameplay though 3/10

    The game itself was good, the gameplay battle system was good but the fact that you have to play 10 hours in a character you do not want to play but rotate. The end was awful, ellie left the house ready to kill abby and by the time I got to the abby kill section and wanted to do it the game literally prevented it.
    And also that Ellie came home to Dina and Jj over him and the game ended. As a person who has passed the first part three times and just passed the second, I confidently declare that the second part is a spit in the soul of the players. The plot is the biggest problem of the game (after the LGBT agenda). I am sure that each of the players after the end of the first part, I thought a little about the future of the characters, and I **** sure that such a nonsense could not fantasize. I myself cried on the assassination of Joel, damn it, it was the best scene in the game, I felt how animal aggression fills me from the inside out with all this scum, I already craved in the face of Ellie to discourage everyone involved in this. And the problem with the game is that AT THE END THIS DESIRE DOES NOT DEPLETE. Abby and her friends are absolutely disgusting to me, I do not care that her father is an incredibly kind person, because he saved the zebra (and wanted to kill Ellie for the sake of a vaccine, which would not even ask if she agreed). I’m already silent about the fact that the vaccine will not help this world, but what if it does not work? What if some idiot drops a vaccine cone? What if the vaccine is stolen and will be using it to try to control the world? All the blood at the end of the first part is entirely on the conscience of the Cycad. Okay, next, did it bother me alone that Joel saved Abby? Well, it’s illogical, because in the first part he could figure out a scoundrel without even talking to him. But I’m talking about something else, Joel saved LIFE to this pumped Abinator. Maybe you should think again before playing golf? Well, since Drackmann wanted us to look at the situation from Abby, then let's take a look. You killed Joel, here on the floor next to him lies his closest man, who, through tears, screams that he will kill you all. Can kill her? Yes, no, some kind of nonsense, let's just leave and wait for the answer. About two Asian women spontaneously introduced into the game, I’m just silent. The ending is just the apogee of all this nonsense. Imagine that Joel at the end of the first part will kill all the cicadas, and then still give Ellie into the hands of Marlene in the parking lot. Desde el principio, con la muerte de Joel el juego te hace fundirte en uno con Ellie y esa rabia que contiene y su sed de venganza, a partir de su llegada a Seattle comienza una decadencia bastante grande que culmina con un gran desastre al final, cuando por fin tenemos en nuestras manos matar a Abby, el juego decide que no nos da la oportunidad de acabar con su vida.
    Ni una maldita opción de matarla o dejarla vivir, me sentí con rabia de verdad en aquel momento tras perseguir durante todo el juego a la asesina de Joel y no poder acabar con su vida... Un juego de 10 en casi todos los aspectos pero un 0 en la narrativa.    … Expand

    Very disappointed in the game. The story in the first game was near perfect and they followed up with one nobody could enjoy. Gameplay was pretty much the same with some improvements but I just couldn’t enjoy the game like the previous one.

    The whole story relies on someone saving a persons life and becoming a villain. Then they try to humanise the real villain.

    Abbys character is a bully, a monster and also a coward. That can’t be redeemed.

    There is no The last of us part 2 Forever. 아 정말 참담하네요. 조엘의 죽음은 예상했어요. 하지만, 과정이 너무 쓰레기 같네요. 특히 애비를 플레이하게 한 것은 정말 역겨웠어요. 저에게 더 라스트 오브 어스는 1편만 있는거에요.

I first played The Last of Us 1 when I was 11 years old, and even at that age I could feel the range of emotions that most people twice my age could feel. Now it's been 7 years later and unlike some people I wanted a second game. After playing the game it breaks my heart to say that this game was absolutely terrible. The bond that was in the first game between Ellie and Joel wasn't there in this game. It was in a couple of the flashbacks but it just wasn't there. A lot of people are complaining about he politics in the game like the fact Ellie is lesbian but honestly I really couldn't see the politics being pushed in this game, and the fact Ellie makes sense 100% considering in the first games left behind dlc it confirmed she was. Enough about the story I don't want to talk about the story too much because I know there are 100 other reviews that are going to only talk about the story. I want to focus on another terrible part of the game and also some good parts. Starting with the bad parts which is gameplay, the gameplay in this game started off great it was really nice it was different than the last game the stealth in my opinion was actually really good, but the problem is, is that you do this the entire game. Some will argue that "you don't have to always do stealth" yes that's true but that would mean you only have two choice gameplay wise. Kill bad guys with loud gun, or kill bad guys with knife or bow. This gets extremely repetitive and after the first 5 hours of the game. Another thing that I dislike about this game is how 85% of the game is based around Seattle, this gets very old unlike in the first game where there was multiple areas that you was able to explore for long periods of the game. moving on from negative things about the game, which there are many more I could cover but i'll leave that for the other reviews. I wan't to talk about some things this game did very well. First thing is graphics this game had amazing graphics although I had to play it on my loud ass ps4 it was still an amazing looking game, I remember taking a lot of screenshots during the cut scenes and out of the cut scenes because of how amazing the game looked. That's all I really have to say about the graphics but if I had to rate the graphics alone 10/10 moving on. Soundtrack, there is very few other games out there that has a great as soundtrack as this one and surprise surprise those other games are naughty dog games. Naughty dog does a great job with the soundtrack in the game and better yet connecting the characters with it. I actually liked this soundtrack enough to pick up the guitar again and learn a few of the songs from the game, which by the way are very good. Anyway i'm getting tired of typing so I will just end this review here. If I had to say weather or not you should buy this game I'd say no, just because this game honestly ruined the entire franchise for me with it's terrible story telling... Just keep the memories of the first game alive and pretend this game doesn't exist...… Expand

Second, I was being forced into some kind of awful Top Trumps morality contest revenge drama - but why? We're in a setting where there is no rule of law, where all participants are wronged, damaged and at risk of sudden death - and where most have done despicableTwo thirds of the way through this game two things struck me. First, I was a bit bored - a novelty for a Naughty Dog title. Second, I was being forced into some kind of awful Top Trumps morality contest revenge drama - but why? We're in a setting where there is no rule of law, where all participants are wronged, damaged and at risk of sudden death - and where most have done despicable things to other humans. There are no saints in the fungal future, I thought that was made clear in the first game, so it feels odd for the new game to be some kind of weird standoff over who is the real villain on a dual/mutual revenge trail. (And that's not to mention the egregious plot holes driving the opening revenge narrative, the outrageous coincidences and character contradictions). So it gets draining to be pulled this way and that by the developers, tugging on my heart strings with all the subtlety that Ellie has with her iron bar...no, the first game was underpinned by hope and this one is all about anger and hate, there's no morality winner.

    And the problem with anger and hate in a revenge drama is we know what's coming. Oh yep. It's death or forgiveness and you might as well cut to the chase and stop rummaging in drawers and crawling through gaps because we know the ending. But the writers/directors want to keep squeezing the juice out of the lemon, just a little more they say, let me go a bit further and it'll morph into a masterpiece. Maybe that's why so many revenge dramas are so long and take place over many years - Ethan questing through the seasons in The Searchers, Ahab roaming the oceans for his whale, The Bride hacking and hacking, more and more blood and anger. But you keep reading or watching those classics because the environments, the supporting characters, the main protagonist back stories, the great scope and vision of the wandering experience...they're all fresh and dazzling. All of those things are missing from this game if you've played the first round. We already know Ellie and Joel, we know the Ballardian environments, we know the gameplay, the factions are pretty similar to ones already encountered - all that's new is the revenger who is badly drawn, contradictory in values and not given a backstory until it's too late to bring the audience over.

    I appreciate the writing ambition. I love some of the art design details - new players will marvel at the gameplay and settings. But the story arc is a rambling, creaking inchoate mess and I never feel that I get to know or understand the new character. But I feel that I understood Ellie and Joel from the first game, I know why Joel did what he did. I don't struggle with that. And I can't think of any reason why I'd want to replay any of the new game, I don't understand what the prize is, what it is that we have to gain.

The only issue is you don’t ACTUALLY get revenge and waste hours of gameplay trying to achieve that goal. In addition the game forces you to play as the main antagonist for hours at a time which is extremely boring and time consuming. Unlike the first game where there were moments of darkness followed by moments of light that allowed you to laugh and fall in love with the characters The Last Of Us Part 2 is lacking in that department. The game constantly beats you down and feels as if playing it is more like a chore than something you’d do for fun. The characters leave much to be desired as they are no where near as interesting as they are in the first game and feel very underdeveloped and bland. Even Ellie. Most cutscenes just leave you with thoughts like “Oh him?” “Ugh this is so long”. Unlike the first game where I was completely sucked into the game and couldn’t stop watching I found myself getting distracted very very easily by my phone or other things. (For example, RDR1 & RDR2, RDR2 have almost 50% in at least on system part was different if compare with previous game).

    The graphic was nice, only certain small detail was kind of weird if you not look into it in detail.

    Friendly advise for those who want to gain platinum trophies in this game, you might being torture by the loading time instead of re-watch those skippable cinematic cutscene.......it was slightly long to wait especially skip the cutscene in between the chapter, it take time to fully load up a new chapter.

    Los gráficos las mecánicas del juego me gustaron mucho la historia también hasta cierto punto donde te sientes obligado a sentir lástima por quien se supone es tu enemigo, lo que te deja un gusto de un viaje sin sentido :/

    TLOU 2 hates TLOU 1.

    The reason we all loved the first one was because of characters and story. This game fails in the story category so completely that I had to give this a 1. It gets 1 point because at least the graphics department cared about the property. Everything else in this game is a massive failure. They REALLY want us to like Abby. She is hot garbage and a pathetic    TLOU 2 hates TLOU 1.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
