    The Last Of Us 2 is like a drunk driver killing your father. And then in court the judge is telling you that the murderer is just a flawed human and then proceeds to show me videos of him playing fetch with dog to try and make me feel sympathy for him.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved first game, replayed it like 5 times and this game i uninstalled straight after finishing. I didn't really wanted to finish it at all. Gameplay good, game looks and sounds grate, but the story is where i see problem. I can understand wanting to hide some plot-twist, but straight out lying about it, its just not ok. I'm talking about Joel death, i really came to like this character while playing 1 game and to kill him in first 2 hours of the game and the way he was killed. Its just disrespectful for this character#Joel deserve better. If you really needed him dead it could be arranged better then it was. After that Abby for me was irredeemable, i didn't want to play as her. I killed her on purpose often, this was the moment where i wanted to drop the game, but i also wanted to see how it ends so i kept playing. Than we came to Abby vs Elly fight and again i doubted if its worth it to finish this game. And then we came to the end, i personally wasn't satisfied with how it ends. Elly lost everything for nothing, didn't even kill Abby in the end. I suppose playing as Abby should have caused some sympathy for her, which it didn't, and i had to force myself to play this part (which wasn't all that short). If it was some new game with new characters it would have been taken better, but as it is sequel... Flashbacks was great they brought back what i loved from the first game interaction between Joel and Elly, but it also showed part 2 we can never get. In the end i didn't enjoy playing this game all that much(especially not Abby part),but it had its moments, anyway i'm gonna forget i aver played this game and never will return to it again.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In all honesty, do not waste your time with this game. I was the biggest fan of the first game and thought it was arguably the best game ever. Gameplay in the 2nd one is insane and the artwork is out of this world. Although this is the case, I just feel that the creators really destroyed the series with this game. The story was honestly just awful and was all over the place. I am really upset that I waited 7 years to play as Joel and Ellie again only to spend the majority of the time playing as pointless characters and failing to sympathize with the main antagonistic. I also did not care for how anti-climatic the plot became. (SPOILER AHEAD) When Abby has her weapon on Tommy and Ellie, it makes no sense to ruin the momentum by switching off into an overdrawn out storyline of Abby's journey. Along with this the ending honestly makes no sense. A game that is clearly about violence and revenge decides, in the end, that violence isn't the answer??? Like come on, aside from the fact Joel got killed off in the worst way possible, why did Ellie just decide to forget all the pain she was caused and let Abby live after being so clearly determined to kill Abby. Overall, the game is decent at best and if you were a fan of the first one I'd recommend not ruining the series for yourself unless you are super bored.… Expand

    I'm shocked and stunned to see 112/112 positive pro reviews. There's not a single mixed or negative review. The general consensus seems to be that this game is the greatest of it's generation. If that is the case, then it must have little to no competitors.

    As others have stated this is a beautiful piece of art. Visually, I agree that this game is beautiful. However, visuals aren't everything. The statement that I hear most often repeated is that this game's message is "revenge is bad". Okay, so with that being said, this game wants to send a positive message like "embrace forgiveness"? No.
    Then I hear that this game is edgy and an emotional gut punch. However, the writer Neil Druckmann seems to contradict that when he reveals his motivations for the story were inspired by a heanius act that he witnessed in his youth and his dark thoughts afterward. So you want to depict in your artwork how disgusted you are by humanity? That's okay with me, however, I won't be purchasing it.
    In closing, I'd like to say that I believe someone's personal and philosophical beliefs marred what should have been a meaningful conclusion/continuation of a beloved franchise.    … Expand

    I literally created and account just to rate this Trash ass game. Like WTF were you thinking Naughty Dog?!?!?! I literally had to Force my self like it was a job to finish the second half of this games. Literally when I switched to Abby, I said to myself, I do not want to play this game anymore I hate this **** I 100% will not pick this game back up and play again in the future.

After 7 years of waiting we are giving a poorly written script with characters that no one actually cares about. WTH is Danny? I don't know and I don't care! Joel is killed right at the start after saving the life of his killer. The fact that Neil (Manny) spits at Joel is a big picture of what is about to come. They literally destroyed the game trying to be innovative. The plot is weak and has a lot of flaws. I mean, do you guys really think Ellie would forget the map with her location at the Aquarium so Abby could find it and go kill her and the others? Ellen didnt even picked the god damn PS Vita, I mean, whatttt? She is crazy about that stuff! Come on! They try so hard to make us like Abby, they try sooooo hard to manipulate our emotions to make us believe that Abby is a nice girl. The manipulations did not worked on me! Abby is an horrible person in a world full of horrible people and I do not care how many hours I was forced to play her character and how many times I had to play with the dog, she is still an horrible person. They could have made this game a masterpiece, but Neils ego got in the way. The first TLOU worked because it was written by people that knows what they are doing. The first game is flawless! The emotions that the game make us feel is something that I never saw or experienced in another game. It is perfection! TLOU 2 is the opposite! You end the game disgusted, tired, feeling a disgrace. i regret buying this game. I struggled to play till the end, because the game is just BORING! The dinamic of the game is boring: we started as Ellie then we play as Abby, agai as Ellie, flashback, Ellie again, now Abby, flashback, Abby, Ellie and this go on for the entire game! It is really awful, annoying and boring! It makes the plot even more difficult to like and follow. I wish this game was never done in the first place. Joel deserved more. The fans deserved more. I have no problem with Joel dying if HIS DEATH WAS WELL EXECUTED AND WRITTEN. If he really had to die cause Neil thought that would be "cool" at least make his death WORTH the 7 years waiting! You just dont kill a character that we all love like that. The game has some good aspects here and there mostly the flashbacks with Ellie and Joel (The Museum was my favorite. Joels face when she hears the astronaut tape made me cry).. everything else in the game is just empty, pointless and without any value. It does not add to the plot it just takes and destroy the original script. They did not even let Ellie keeps Joels memories and bound with her. They took her fingers, so she now can not even play the guitar anymore! They destroyed her , transformed her in something that we started to dislike or even hate! She ends the game alone (remember her conversation with Sam in TLOU? about her biggest fear), empty, destroyed! And why? To justify Abby's actions? I do not care. This is a world of killers. Nobody is a saint, certainly not Joel, but still he deserved more. I do not recommend the game. If you really, really want to torture yourself at least be smart with your money and buy a second hand game. There is a lot being sold online for half price. This game is just not worth the money and the emotional burden.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Dissapointment all the way. Everything you love about the first game, gets thrown out the window. The graphic in the game was beautiful and the gameplay feels the same as the first game which is good. I feel the tense when encountering humans or clickers. Sound design was amazing, love the atmosphere. These elements of the game, i enjoyed.

    However, the big problem i had with this game is the narrative. It is force. It is disconnected. It is just a frustrating journey overall. In one of the early trailers that ND released, it made us think that Joel was going to accompany Ellie, but that was not the case in the final game. It is replaced with Jessie. That is just misleading.

    I did not look at the early leaks, so I am going into this game not knowing what to expect. But, at some point before starting the game, I was preparing for the worst for what if Joel died. And that moment arrived, I did not expect it to be that early in the game. Abby killed Joel. I feel like Joel's character got dumb down, as oppose to the first game. It just doesn't make sense how him and Tommy just calmly trust Abby and her group. Sure, I get it, the whole theme of this game is hate and Joel particularly is not a good guy either. In the last of us world, there is no good people, everyone is scummy. But this is like a spit on the face and disrepectful towards the character whom you spent the most in the first game.

    So, after Joel's death, you play as Ellie. You want revenge on Abby. So, you went on this journey searching for Abby and killing of her friends along the way. But you never got to meet her as Ellie. Instead, Abby's the one who came and found Ellie in the theatre and killed Jessie and Tommy was helpless and just right when the scene was about to end, the climatic moment. It cuts off.

    Then, the game wants to introduce you to Abby, the girl whom you hated so much and want revenge on. The game wants you to get to know her side of the story in the last of us world. It was just frustrating playing as the character where the game makes you hate her in beginning and her story just keeps on dragging for a long and ardous experience. I got bored of it and it made me wanting to power through the game just to get to that climactic moment, which i did. After all that, I still did not care for Abby character. The two scars character, did not care at all.

    The second half of the game (Abby) was just excruciating to play. It is not fun at all. I just want to finish the story so badly and it keeps on dragging. The tons and tons of flashbacks storytelling are just horrible. It ruins the flow of the story. The ending of the game, you did not get what you wanted. You were left with this empty void. Abby wins, Ellie lose everything in the end, even her two fingers. The character who you rooting for from the first game and waited for 7 years, loses everything. I guess, this part 2 is the downfall of Ellie in this story. It is paving its way for a possible part 3 where Ellie will rise again, maybe.

    Overall, the tense gameplay carried the game i would say. I did not like the flow of this game. A painful and disjointed storytelling. The layers on layers of flashbacks are just fillers of time wasting. This game is a rollercoaster where the people plummets to their deaths at the end of the ride. It's not a fun game and ND achieved that.    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is so disconnected from the first game. There's literally 0 consistency in character writing, plots. The whole game is just a different short stories patched together that didn't need to be told. This game was honestly a waste of everybody's time. Also the environment and level design is subpar compared to the first game.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I bought this game the day it came out. The last of Us didn't need a sequel and it shouldn't have had one. But like most, I have waited for 6-7 years for this game and this game is just disappointing.
    Positives
    The graphics are great
    -The gameplay is better than the original.
    -Music amazing
    -sound good

    Negatives
    -Bad story
    -forgettable characters
    -bad and even cringy dialogue
    -pacing is confusing and messy
    -characters are bad and even annoying/hated
    -ending is bad
    -game is too long with a run time of 20+ hours
    -long boring sections of the game
    -lack of character development
    - old characters from the original are completely different and not much time is used to explain the change in these characters
    - the game makes Joel an idiot in order to kick off the story. This is a man who has been able to detect ambushes before. Someone who you have to earn his trust but this game just has his get ambushed and trust complete strangers. Joel has been surviving in this Apocolypse for 25+ years and this is how he dies SILLY.

    That's my opinion and yes I have played the game and it's still Sh*t    … Expand

    Story: a predictable tale of revenge. Ellies character is ruined and Joels killer is given half the game. Theres is no connection to either Abby or Ellies choices. The second half of the game is ultimitaly about fighting transphobes... it's cringe indusing.

    Half the game is all about making Abby a likable person, but why? Revenge is bad, we get it! What about the hundreds of men and women that are killed during the rest of the game? What about their families and friends? Are they gonna get revenge too? The plot is paper thin.

    The first game was all about "show don't tell", but this game has flashbacks after frickin flashbacks, because the plot isn't effective enough on it's own. None of the Joel and Ellie cutscenes made me emotional, and I ended up hating all of the main characters by the end.

    Gameplay: great. Gets repetetive thou, and more than half the game is cutscenes or walking. 5/10    … Expand

    Creo que se equivocaron al volver a meter a Ellie y Joel, en vez de hacer un juego nuevo con una historia con otros personajes en otra parte de eeuu o haber contado solo la historia de Abby.

Adding more blood and guts to a game doesn't make it more shocking because most gamers are fairly desensitised to that today and I'm all for female protagonists, but Naughty Dog really ruined Ellie and in regards to Abby she is downright just not fun or engaging. Also Naughty Dog's game design is really starting to stretch thin such as, "oh the camera is now slowly and forcefully panning behind me suddenly I wonder if I'm going to be smacked in the face from an enemy from just outside this narrow corridor!" Plus, my god this company needs to decide if it wants to make a movie or a video game by this point. Even in the Uncharted series they do try so hard to keep you immersed in these cinematic elements only for the player to misstep once or hit a dodge button (the dodge button is an absolute joke in this game, its timing window is REALLY strange) and BAM instant death... I mean sure that's fine once or twice, but after you do it four or five times you are LITERALLY pulled out of the cinematic action and are now jaded to the rest of the scene setup... My score of 4 out of 10 solely goes to the graphics, which are INCREDIBLE. Too many times I thought I was actually watching live actors.… Expand

    They ruined the game with bad story and ending. Part1 is the best game in history but part2 story and ending doesn’t even make any sense !!!!!! There is so much wrong about this game for example joel’s death!!! In part1 he ran over someone because he didn’t trust him and didn’t believe he is hurt but in part2 he trusted a girl and his group!!!!???? What!????? Why should we play abby ?!!! What the hell????? Why should we play someone that killed joel????? Why should we play abby and shoot ellie !????? What???? Why should we hurt ellie????? They wanted us to understand abby?!!!! No one cares about abby! Whyyyy should we play someone who killed joel and hurt ellie so bad ???!!! What hell was this game???!!! I think we played abby around 10 hours !!! What??????? We will never hurt ellie and we will hate abby until we die and we wish abby die always . what was this!!!? We love ellie and joel more than anything!!!!! And we care about them more than anything . Neil durkman you ruined the last of us . There is so much wrong !!! There is still a chance to fix this . Make part3 fast and start it like joel wakes up and part2 was all his nightmare . I had been anxious about the second part of the last of us, and after the leak occured I stay away from any information related, cause I didnt wanted anyone ruining the experience. My expectation was high since the first game was a masterpiece, and just like uncharted I was expecting same as uncharted I was expecting more of the same formula with enhanced graphics, enemy AI, and a more expanded world to explore. That would be enough for me to love the game if the characters we loved had some missions to accomplish, and try to form a bond between joel and ellie like father, daughter. But no they had to do the fans wrong. They killed our favorite character, turn ellie into a unrecognizable person and have to make sure to push their sexual ideals and feminist beliefs onto the fans. Neil druckmann, really want to be accepted by the LGBT community, that he would go as far as to destroy and studio and his legacy. I hope he doesn't work crating for sony anymore. Stay away from this game if you haven't played. Just do what I did played the first game on ps3 a couple of times, and the remastered on the ps4 once, and I'm about to play it again soon, I want to remember ellie as that curious little girl with funny quotes, and smart remarks, and how she won Joel's feelings during their travel adventure.… Expand

    It seemed like every thing that happened in the game was just to get their agenda across and not for storyline purposes. And the story definitely suffered for it. The graphics were amazing so there's that going for it. If you are looking for a beautiful looking game with not much else then this is the game for you.

You had it all, a good story, a good drama, the most beautiful graphics we had seen that year, in short, a Masterpiece, and now you just ruined everything the worst way... You force us to love or understand the reasons and history of this character (Abby) and that was not enough for you, but you make us play with her and save her too, before killing Joel. It was supposed to cause us some kind of pain and have empathy with her, right? The truth was not achieved in the least.

    The strength of TLOU was the relationship between Ellie and Joel after having lost Sara, the fact that he cared for her as his own daughter, you could kill any other character and give a very similar drama and feelings to us, the fans. You could have even made us fall in love with Tommy and then kill him or do a massacre and then Ellie & Joel's revenge, but what made the game so successful years ago, was the relationship between them, as main characters... Even the end of the game is horrible, all for nothing, at least you should get revenge for Joel.

    I loved this story, the most perfect one, it even surpassed that of many movies. The only thing that makes me give this rating are the graphics, they are still beautiful, even more, some of the most realistic for these times, and yet it isn't enough for the disaster that you did to the game. :/

    All those who comment that it was a good plot line is because they are not real fans of the game, perhaps it is just one more game that they just liked. But for true fans it was the worst thing ND could have done.    … Expand

    Gameplay and graphics are overwhelmingly well executed. That said, it's also about 95% identical to the first game. The mechanics and the fighting has changed very little Add to that a world already designed once, it's really just following in the footsteps of it's predecessor. This is a good game, standing on the shoulders of a legendary game. My low score is reflected in the fact that the narrative of the game defecates on said giant. It retroactively ruins one of the best games ever made. It's such a bad story, that it is actually pulling down an otherwise great game into the mud. This should've been a new title. The Director should've kept his hands far away from the beloved characters and existing storyline from 13 years ago.    … Expand

As for the game play it is decent and i had fun playing the game but i think it could be improved majorly! Enemies are divided to human and zombie, human were improved with respect to part1 the communication that the enemies used enhanced the experience! As for zombies there are no new types which as strange tbh.

    Compared to part1 narrative, part2 didn’t do as well... there is nothing wrong with a good revenge story but what naughty dog did is take a 15 hour game and double it by adding Abbie’s part! Personally i think the idea is good and could be implemented better. Playing with the most hated character killed it for me!

    Characters were poorly written and felt that they were forced upon us (gender/sex politics)!

Not many people have pointed this out in their reviews so I felt I should touch on this specifically. In short there’s a lack of continuity. There’s a long list of other examples of this and other criticisms to be had with the plot but you can scroll down for those. That being said graphics are gorgeous, gameplay in general is improved. Upgrading is better, silencers, melee combat, animations, and the music is nice too. Accessibility controls are a nice touch too but they’re not that groundbreaking.

    I would recommend you play the first one. Skip this one or wait until it’s marked down by half or even lower. Definitely not worth the 60 dollar pricetag    … Expand

    I wanted this game to be swan song of the ps4. Sadly it fell short of its goals. Given how it look I can give an a plus for that, but thats not why I played The Last of Us. Its the story and character is what I care about. Gameplay can be dragged on to long and the ending was totally unsatisfying.

    The story is uninspired. The characters are uninteresting, one-dimensional and forgettable. Several are introduced as deus-ex machina devices to save the day out of nowhere. The Story feels fragmented and scattered.

    For a story driven game, this is unacceptable. It would be ok for a game based on gameplay above story, but ironically the gameplay was portion of the first game that was barely touched on the second one. There are minor improvements: you can jump (but the jump button is pointless). Enemies have dogs!
    But excluding minor QoL changes, combat, stealth and crafting system are the same. And if they weren't particularly impressive in 2013 when the first game launched, they're pretty outdated in 2020. Which would be fine if the narrative was as good as the first game. But it isn't.    … Expand

    It is really hard for me to fathom what went wrong in development, but this game is so inferior to the first one in the series that it's almost impossible to believe it was handled by the same studio. The only good thing that has carried over to Part II is the graphics. The game is visually stunning, and there are so many gorgeous views to be found in this game, indeed. So, huge kudos to whatever part of Naughty Dog's team handled the visual elements & art direction because they did a brilliant job, and it is the only thing I genuinely enjoyed. Is that enough to propel the score beyond 4 out of 10 though? I'm afraid not. At least not for me, a player that puts story & characters above everything else. I don't need photo-realistic graphics to save the game if the story and characters are well-written and fun to experience. This is why The Last of Us 1 will be played & remembered decades from now, while this game will be forgotten. All video games eventually become outdated in some way, but interesting (not necessarily likable) characters, good plot & fun gameplay continue to captivate players of different generations. The world still plays Half-Life 1 & 2, Bioshock (2007), Resident Evil (1-4) or pre-reboot Tomb Raider games -- because these games have stood the test of time. The Last of Us Part II is not timeless, it is a sad reflection of the time during which it was produced: the age of political correctness, SJW wokeness, and a time when feminism is used as a tool of oppression & censorship.

    I am a gay male by the way, and while I fully welcome the fact this game features same sex romance & homosexual characters -- I do not like the way the characters were handled -- In fact, it is hard to find any other defining characteristics of the main characters besides the fact they're gay which is exactly what you want to avoid as a writer/storyteller. Then there's the sexual aspect of those characters which is featured so prominently (sex scenes that contribute NOTHING worthwhile to the overall plot!!) just for the sake of controversy and generating support from the LGBTQ+ community, I presume.

    Ultimately, The Last of Us Part II is a shallow and empty experience that will go down in history as one of the most disappointing video game sequels of all time.    … Expand

    Why would I want to play as abby?
    She was so bad that every time I wanted to kill her off but I couldn't
    Graphics was good, game play was good, but the storyline and abby was awful

    Pretty damn awful, extremely bad pacing and very predictable once you accept that the game is intended to tell a story where everything ends bad for everyone. It’s a shame when the first game introduced such good characters. Good looking graphics are sometimes enough to make a game enjoyable but when the writing is this horrible and strained, in a story driven game, it is far from enough.

    Look, I understand that they had to change the story and characters to try to "innovate", but what came out was something quite bad in the story, the graphics were excellent, but they sacrificed the story like a lamb. the end was very forced and you feel as if you had no choice, it would have been excellent to leave the decision to us and not force ourselves.

    I love Part I with every fiber of my being as it's a 10/10 game for me. Beaten it on grounded countless times and still play it from time to time. The story touched my heart and moved my unlike any medium in my life. Joel and Ellie were one of the best game duos I've had the pleasure of experiencing. The game's story was simple but the way it drove character development was something I've yet to see in a video-game. The characters were stellar and were the highlight of the game. The game-play felt raw and somewhat clunky but still really friggin fun and challenging. Needless to say I was waiting for Part II with as much excitement as I could have. Did it deliver? Well sadly no. What happened with Part II's story-telling feels like a theme brought to life no matter the cost, bending the characters to do its biding, The game relies on suspension of disbelief to the point you stop bothering to think anymore because the more you do, the more of a headache you get. This is a game that consistently and relentlessly punishes you for the actions you are forced to commit. So after hours of being beaten with a hammer to the head on how bad you should feel, you just stop caring anymore. The dissonance is so potent in this game that you feel the game writer's strings trying to manipulate you into feeling what the want. And do you? Well no, it does the opposite as it feels artificial and forced, and so doesn't deliver it's message. Don't get me started on the false advertising and trying to market this game as a Joel and Ellie game. You guys didn't have the guts to show it for what it was but you wanted to milk that dough, didn't you? Here's a tip. If something is not in your game, don't show it, will ya? It's really odd to me how one makes a game that is supposed to consciously divide the fan-base and then acts surprised when it happens. Well **** what did you guys expect? Now let me address the elephant in the room. Joel's death. Some people will say: 'ha, you're obviously just mad about it, get over it sucker and enjoy the game'. The decision was stupid because such a pivotal moment should have been constructed better. It betrays the intelligence of Tommy and Joel, and immediately throws Abby under the bus in terms of the player empathizing with her. I understand her motivations, but I never cared for her. If the game started with her build her up as someone who's got a goal I can sympathize with and then made her clash with the Jackson team, then that would be some good drama. That would have made me torn between the characters. Instead I got to walk around across Seattle doing pointless side-quest detours filled with exposition. Really boring stuff. Anyway game-play wise it's pretty good, you can see the improvements although I've had more bugs and glitches in Part II than Part I. The game also looks beautifully and the setpieces and level design is stellar. If all I cared for was that though, I would have gotten one of them Call Of Duty games or something and called it a day. It all comes down to the story man. And except for a couple of Ellie and Joel related flashbacks the story doesn't move me one bit.… Expand

    It makes me very sad that a TLOU part two, has been stained with changing everything iconic done by the previous title.

    That in no media they dared to say the name of one of the protagonists, since they knew that she would be responsible for all the aforementioned controversy. It is more than clear that those ten were not given in an honest way.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was pretty hyped for this game. Now, I feel like I have never been so much lied to. First part of the game is as good as the previous TLoU. However, the more you play, the more the game trailers turn out to be fake. In the middle of the game you get to control the character you don't even care about and actually want her to die. All the joy is gone and it's just mindless rushing to the end of the level. What's worse, it has never been stated in trailers until the plot leak. Naughty Dog edited the trailers so as they do not resemble the actual game plot at all. I feel personally insulted with the way the developers advertised the game and the terrible abomination they finally delivered.… Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
