I have been waiting for the game since 2016, and my expectations are not in vain. This game is one of the best star wars games. The gameplay is peppy, although I do not like souls like games, but I am a big fan of star wars, and for them I was ready to play this game. The plot is very good, certainly not 10/10 but still very interesting. In general, I am very satisfied, I recommend to buy.

People say "Dark Souls Clone" like it's a bad thing, but I can't think of a better franchise to borrow from, and as long as publishers do an adequate job with the formula, I'll keep buying the hell out of these games. The combat is a little clunky and it doesn't have that From Software polish, but there's no reason the SEQUEL (hint!) can't be a perfect Souls-like game.

The Dodge/counter system is infuriating at times as it feels that many enemies are faster and have a better target system than the character. I found myself at times dodging an attack and timing it perfectly only for the enemy to strike me again before I could even recover from the dodge. The biggest problems would be the graphical bugs (which it has plenty) and the loading screens which seem to feel eternal specially when a boss kills you and all you want is to just get back to try and beat it again. Overall it is a good game but what really got me was the story and the characters which is why I'm giving it this rating and I can't believe I'm saying this about an EA game but, I can't wait for the next one. I'm a few hours in, and so far I'm really enjoying it! I've read a few reviews, and it seems as though some people are either disappointed that it's not like KOTOR, that it's not god-like perfection or they hate on it because it's published by EA. To that I say: LIGHTEN UP!!! Enjoy the game for what it is, not what you want it to be or what company logo is on the box. Yes, the game's not perfect, there are a few bugs to be found.....but then again, what game DOESN'T have a few glitches here and there (as I recall, Witcher III had a plethora of bugs, yet it's heralded as one of the greatest games of all time, yet this game is penalized for it? Yeah, THAT makes sense! Lol). People also seem to be a bit harsh on the main character, saying he's boring. I honestly don't have a problem with him, but to each their own I suppose. It just seems like there's a lot of nitpicking going on about this game, but again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. As for me, I'm enjoying this title..... MUCH more than the boring, overrated Death Stranding! (How that game, as well as the one millionth damn Pokemon game has a higher Metacritic score than this game is beyond me) Anyway, in conclusion, do yourself a favor and pick this title up. You won't be disappointed! Expand

Excellent story, hard not to care about the characters with such a well done story. Great graphics and cinematic sequences, pretty good combat.
The BAD: Not enough role playing aspects. For example no stats, just skills, no equipment to change stats, all changes to light-saber are purely cosmetic, so are poncho and equipment changes. I would have liked a more traditional RPG

First of all, thank god for Redbox, otherwise I would have wasted 60 bucks on this game. Here's my breakdown:

    Gameplay: 4/10
The controls feel a bit awkward, and you can't adjust the controller sensitivity. Also, when the character moves through the environment, it feels like he's programmed to essentially be a straight line perpendicular to the ground, and when you turn, it just changes the angle of the line. It makes for an odd experience and it always feels like you're anchored to the ground and slave to some strange set of non-newtonian physics. The combat is alright, the respawns are painful.

    Presentation: 3/10
You'll notice right out of the gate that the graphics for characters are noticably worse than the environments/effects, particularly when it comes to facial animations. It looks like they hired all the animators from Mass Effect Andromeda. Faces look low resolution and lifeless on most humans, although the alien characters seemed to look much better. The only reason the Empire soldiers look good is because they're wearing helmets. Also, this is a light saber combat game that doesn't include full limb dismemberment, which is pretty weak. Textures in general seem to be hit an miss, but many of them look like they are from the ps3 era.

    Story 2/10
So for a single player game with so much source material to work from, the writing/dialog/story for this game is a steaming turd sandwich. You start off as a scrapper working with your buddy on crashed imperial ships from a recent conflict, oh but you're also a padawan, which you may or may not have been aware of, and your friend may or may not have been your jedi master, but it doesn't matter because he dies about 40 minutes into the game right as your starting to like him. Then theres a sith lord who couldn't tell you were a Jedi at first, despite their entire reason for being involved in the story is to find/hunt jedi's. So you run from this sith lord and while walking on top of some super futuristic monorail made out of metal grates, a ship flies up next to you, a bug eyed black lady opens the landing ramps, says she's your friend and she'll help, then that ship flies off. You reach the predictable end of the train level just in time to have that ship come and save you from certain doom. At this point bug eyed black lady basically reads you the cliff notes for the first several chapters of the games story. She's a rebel leader, and you know each other or at least she knows you, although its not explained why you would be working as a scrapper when you have contacts in the rebel alliance and you're actively being hunted. A talented writer would have written multiple nuanced interactions and dialogues that could have slowly brought you up to speed while letting you identify with, and become attached to these new characters. A talented writer was nowhere near this project. In about 5 minutes of exposition, Cera, the rebel lady basically just dumps out all the bullet points of who you are and why your here, and she does so in a way that's pretty painful. It looks like the same approach to the scripts for recent star wars movies was utilized for this game, which means dialogue is painfully simplistic and lacking any nuance or subtlety. It was written so that it translates easily to chinese and languages from other countries where Disney is trying to establish the franchise, and as a result, it has the quality of a script written by 5 year olds.

The 'professional' reviews for this game are full of **** This game, at best, is a 6/10 in its current state, and thats being pretty generous

Story - It is solid, it's no New York times best seller or anything but its engaging enough even if in canon it's clearly pointless. Combat - tbh it's not good. Tldr: long start up to blocking, and attacking makes creating and exploiting openings a pain, and the combat system sucks with multiple enemies. The farther you go in the game the less bearable it gets. Even in one v one fights where the parrie baised combat is at it's best, it feels completely unrewarding. For example you perfectly time a block, normally this would give you an opening but not in this game. In this game they just keep on swinging until you completely break their guard. Any rewarding feeling for learning the game and building some skill is just sucked right out of you when your parrie gets you killed. Which brings me to fighting hordes. They'll throw like 8 storm troopers at you with a mixed of ranged, melee, and tank. The tank has unlockable attacks, the range guys keep plinking at you to break your guard and the melee guys prevent you from parrying any lazers while the lazer keep you from parrying the melee guys. So you end up just running around the room like a **** or exploiting the games invisible walls that exist between each area. Performance on ps4 is bad, 2 crashes and uncountable glitches, tons of pop in, artifacting, bad textures, ghosting.... pretty much any visual bug you can think of it has. Not to mention weird hit boxes, and enemies loading into areas after your in them so they just appear out of nowhere or float into position **** was hilarious the first time. I've had the game freeze multiple times, and frame rates are jerky as all hell. Expand

The combat in this game is awful, and the odd thing about it, is that this is an intentional game design. They literally made the combat terrible on purpose. Dodging does absolutely nothing. Why add a dodge feature when you still get hit no matter what? Taking on multiple enemies is just atrocious to experience. Why? Not because the game is a challenge and I should just "get gud", but because the combat was clearly designed for one-on-one encounters. The field of view provides no vision of anything around you, so when an enemy leaps at you and goes behind you, they can immediately recover and hit you in the back, without you even having time to dodge in a certain direction to avoid this happening. And of course, as I said before, even if you do dodge to make sure you don't get hit in the back, it will still happen. The target lock system is an absolute joke. Targeting enemies is useless because the game will randomly unlock from targets during combat, so when you finally find that open moment where you can strike your enemy, you'll just miss because the target-lock disengaged. And when enemies slightly exit your field of view, the target-lock will just disengage again. This makes combat an absolute absurdity. The fact that I have to lock onto targets to even swing in the correct direction, the fact that when I dodge I still get hit (no matter the direction of my dodge nor the magnitude), the fact that the game just randomly decides to disengage combat while I'm being attacked, the fact that the game pits you against multiple enemies when the combat clearly wasn't designed for such encounters brings me to believe that this game just doesn't deserve a high rating. I haven't even mentioned the navigation. Jumping from platform to platform is an absolute chore, not only because you'll be pressing the jump button every two seconds, but because the character misses the platforms, ropes, edges, rails, etc. constantly, no matter what you do. This is because the camera is extremely inconveniently oriented and also because the jump distance is just barely enough to get you to most of the objects you'll be climbing onto. The game also gets a bad score from me because it doesn't even do a good job of explaining the combat system or the navigation system. It just expects you to figure it out, which, for a Star Wars game where you're literally playing as a Jedi that's already been trained, you'd think it would at least give you a good idea of what to do, but it provides no such service. I can't tell you how many times I had to go through the settings and look at the controls just to figure out what in the world was even happening with my controller. The controls make no sense and are completely different from any other game in this genre and the fact that it pits you against enemies that you haven't even learned the skill yet to take them on properly is just atrocious. I don't expect hand-holding, but I at least expect the game to make sense. You're a properly trained Jedi and you can't even use Force Push at the beginning. Apparently you can freeze objects and enemies, and sense the memories of objects by touching them, but you can't Force Push. Makes absolutely zero sense. If you want my advice, don't get this game, it's just not worth it. If you want the story, watch someone stream it or watch gameplay, but just don't give this developer your money, because this game could have been designed better by a five year old. Expand

The game-play is somewhat difficult and becomes very noticeable on higher difficulties.
The graphics are not amazing, but at times, the environment really makes you grasp the artistic direction the developers where going for.
The story is probably one of the most griping aspects of the game, which all together, makes this a great addition to the Star Wars universe.

The game also generally has some breathtaking moments, which is why I am so disappointed.

This game needed more time. There are so many flaws in the game design it is actually amusing once you are far into the game. There are also AI issues, which are equally amusing. The story though, oh dear. The story has its moments, but it is a poorly written narrative. With video games, I usually cut the narrative a little slack. However, this is a Star Wars title, and some of these narrative choices are jarring from a fan perspective. There is some very questionable dialogue as well. There's a bit of politics in the game, but I expected that and it wasn't constant. The loot for light-saber customization is really cool. The loot for everything else has its moments, but is nothing special. I can tell the developers made an honest attempt at their first single-player title, so I give them some mental props for that.

If this game has a sequel, I will definitely buy it because this truly has potential. If I could rate a 6.5, I would.

    - Player skill progression. Oof this is one of the worse systems I have ever seen. Mulitple times you are going to run into situations where the game doesn't unlock all the skills so you spend your points only to find a little bit further along than you wasted a ton of skill points on skills you really didn't need.

Not that the bar had been set high since they buyout. Greatness can be achieved when EA just gets the heck out of the way and lets their subsidiary studios actually do their jobs. No micro-transaction, and plenty of FREE in-game collectibles to find scattered over the planets to be visited.

Though the game is tough, and one will most likely find themselves frustrated at times(the devs made it clear early on that they admired the Souls-Borne-Sekiro games) but perseverance is rewarded here. It feels good to pull of multiple well timed parries in a row and then follow through with a powerful lightsaber strike. Force abilities are limited but like the old saying goes: less is more. The clever player will find interesting ways to use force slow, push and pull in battle.

Good graphics, even on the standard PS4, and lightsabers and blaster fire sound authentically Star Wars. Musical score is very much John Williams-esque. There are some minor control issues to note. Some of the platforming mechanics could have been refined a bit more, and there is the odd frame-rate drop but it's nothing game breaking. A player may just miss a jump or grab or two. In a few descriptive words Jedi: Fallen Order is a rough diamond. If one is a fan of From Software games and that galaxy far, far away, they most like will find something for them here.

Overall graphics are under what we could expect from a 2019 released game - but still ok. Freeze here and there impair the immersion, but not a game breaker anyway (and we can cross fingers it could be solved by patches on the road).

Story is interesting (did finish the game) and will occupy around 30 hours of gameplay. No real endgame.

Overall disappointing - not a AAA, short lived (between 20 to 40 hours at max, then forget on the shelf), just a nice story on a Tomb Raider game with a Star Wars skin. Does not worth its actual rating from my point of view, objectively.

The story is an ok 7/10 with quit some flaws and quite some missing parts in the front end.. this game could have seriously used some horizon zero dawn treatment where you played the young eloy before you got thrown into the main story line.. there is no real in game justification for why Cal just seem to have forgotten some of his Jedi powers and needs to replay his old training missions with his Master other the game wants you to not unlock the entire planet at once.

the planets are meadow shooter, you have pathways and along them, enemies spawn.the enemy variety is ok to good with some wildlife being way harder than some of the human special enemies.

The maps are severely lacking some fast travel options since backtracking to your ship is always required and that backtrack alone makes you not want to go there in the first time.. i have traveled some areas more than i can count during my level up phase; since i remembered that one force power that i needed to remove that barrier only after already having left the planet.

As for the combat, there are two type of players .. the devil may cry /bayonetta type and the dark souls, sekiro, nioh, bloodrayne, lord of the lost type.. and if you dont like dark souls style you are not completely lost, but you will feel annoyed.. the combat has a very light "fight telegram" style where you need that one enemy move that you can counter and then hit attack with a series of combos and different attacks, the basic attack lacks almost everything, in mobility, range and damage but this improves over time when you unlock certain moves, which then make some enemy types going from a very tough fight to near trivial like dash strike where you gain an incredible range now but it requires some force..

also force pull and push gives you a suitable replacement for your lacking blaster (no , you cant use it like in control you will have to throw humans.. or other enemies)

most frustrating aspect is the complete lack of the traditional healing over time or finding healing items.
You start the game with 2 stim packs which give you approximately 50% health back and use some time to use but you cant regenerate any health until you rest and that will respawn all of the enemies.. -.-

Another frustrating aspect of the game is that most movements in this game are delayed. You will have to think and button press ahead.
Its not as annoying as in Lords of the Fallen where you have to press evade about 5 seconds before the boss even moves, but its noticeable.
When i "learned" force push i was hit by that trainings ball a good number of times before i noticed that i need to press it WAY before the ball was close to me in order to hit it.
Same goes with evade, or block, you need to think ahead and not just react.

the motion controls are in dire need of a more direct response. You will have this 1 second slip, when you go left and then press the opposite direction Cal will keep on moving 1 second to the left before he changes direction.. especially nasty on those sliding sections where this can easily yank you off the track..
The Camera sometimes yanks around you for no obvious reasons and since jumping and sliding in in the direction of the camera, this will let you shoot you off the target. one jumping puzzle i had to do with the activated lightsaber in order to get a bit more control

all in all a nice game, nothing ground breaking but in this day and age this is a desperately needed positive entry in the star wars franchise and i would dare to predict that Cal and BD-1 action figures will sell way better than Rose Ticos.

advice : start on low difficulty and get higher if you feel like it, other than Sekiro, it does have this bonus and its wise to use it. at least for the first run .

Performance on the base consoles are just absurd. It cant even maintain 30fps in many areas with ALOT of freezes and texture load in issues which also happen with the ps4 pro and the one x versons. How did we come from Arkham Knight's amazing looking game on unreal engine to this 20 to 29 fps ****

The game is at its best when you explore, when you uncover secrets, when you find little story-pieces here and there and try to connect the dots, when you think you are lost in this chaotic labyrinth only to discover a few moments later a miraculous shortcut which will lead to a place you were 30 minutes ago, when ultimately you lose yourself in this beautiful, sophisticated and interconnected world. I caught myself on countless occasions to diverge from my main objective without even realizing it. And when I finally did realize it, I was always hearing this voice in my head, "five more minutes and then I'll return to my mission".

The game requires of you, first and foremost, to take your time. Relax, don't rush into things. Let the Force flow through you. Be patient.

This, also, goes for the combat. If you try and muscle your way through this game, if you expect that you can eliminate a group of enemies -hell, even one enemy!- with mindless button mashing, if you think that you are this overpowered jedi who can crush anyone and anything (plot twist - YOU ARE NOT) without carefully plan first, you are about to enter a world of pain. Each encounter with enemies is like a puzzle on its own (especially in higher difficulties). You need to think before you act. Take. Your. Time.

Regarding the story, I found it good enough, darker than your usual SW story, a fact which I really appreciated. It had some problems with the pacing and the ending is indeed a bit underwhelming, but to be honest it didn't bother me much.

The one major complain I have with this game is its excessive platforming elements (sometimes it broke the immersion for me) combined with its clunky controls (this doesn't concern the combat, only the traversing). I think they should have toned that down a bit.

Other than that, it had some technical issues which will be resolved in time I suppose. Moreover, there were a few areas which were under-cooked. In general, the game probably needed 3-4 extra months to be polished I think.

All in all, I wouldn't regard Fallen Order as a masterpiece, I would however regard it as one of the better SW games out there, and certainly one of the best games of this year. It is not what I wanted (full scale, open world RPG), but in the end I am pleased with what I got. And I really hope we'll get more in the future.

After 20+ hours in game I'm changing 10 to 7. While the story is somewhat good for SW it's not brilliant. The game is unpolished AF and it has some very frustrating moments (mostly sliding ones). There's almost no awards for exploring and very little sense of progress besides getting x2-x3 HP and becoming tanky.

Boring. Overly difficult enemies. Clunky controls.

It tries too hard to be dark souls in the star wars universe

I grinder to get to the maximum level I could on the very first world and still got killed by a giant frog.

This game is a wasted opportunity.

I would simply say it's the best SW game since The Force Unleashed.
There are some graphic issues, but it's OK, especially in case:
    1. There was no first day patch.
    2. Single-play only, i miss that so far :)

    Info:
I played the game on PC, mostly with a PS4 controller. I rarely play games with controller but the PC controls felt a tiny bit weird. I played on Jedi Master Difficulty and because of my controller ineptitude I did get stuck at some bosses for a bit.

Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order is a fairly good game. Combat is fairly fast paced as one would expect from Respawn. It is fairly easy to get the hang of and gets easier as you unlock more abilities. The Story is good, contiguous and doesn't go against any canon lore. I give it 9/10.
    Reasons:
Story, while very good, is fairly short and there were quite a few missed opportunities on the side of Respawn.
On playtime, I explored and collected almost everything, and minus the time I spent bashing my head against bosses refusing to lower the difficulty my playtime is around 23 hours. If you B-Line straight for the ending without exploring, collecting etc youre possibly done in under 10 hours.

That being said. I do not regret my purchase whatsoever, and hope there will be some sort of follow-up. While interactions with your "Teammates" are few and far between, they were solid and I got attached to the people in the game (desired effect). I hope the game will have a sequel, or at the very very least a book series on it. Given that Fallen Order takes place in 14BBY, 5 years after Order 66, there should still be a decent amount of wiggle room for followup stories.

Wish people would stop describing this as soul-alike. I could give a great score for regular action or adventure game but to say soul-alike the genre's core mechanic is way too flowed. For example, lock-on causes your dodge's travel distance to be significantly reduced.

It is quite surprise that EA don't f**k this game up.
It is a Sekiro-Star Wars. people said it is dark souls like game, but it is much more like Sekiro since you are much more depend on parry more that rolling, and the whole combo system is very similar to Sekiro.

Then why I would give this game a 7 out of 10? Because, if I don't feel like this is triple-a game. If this is a Indie game or made from a small team, I would give 9 or 10 out of 10. But the development team of this game is big, so I expect much more than this. Is just a OK or good game from a big company, not great.
Furthermore, the character animation is kind of off. The walking and running animation is off from time to time.

Fallen order isn’t exactly an original game. It takes heavy inspiration from games such as Tomb Raider, God of War and Soulsbourne games. The end result is a game that feel like a souls games for more casual player. It’s not as punishing as those games and allows for more exploration without the worry of death at every turn.

Junk control scheme. Games establishes mechanics and then can't follow them (e.g. unblockable attacks light up red, 10 minutes later a fight with tons of unblockable attacks that don't light up red). Platforming is contrived. Story is too short. I like this genre of game, and this is probably the worst AAA entry in the genre to date.

Really solid Star Wars game, I will say the initial game-play was a little weak but once you get to the 3rd planet it is a really strong Star Wars game. Gameplay is a mix between Uncharted/Metroid prime style exploration and a Souls-Lite combat system maybe more comparable to Batman Arkham Knight, play it on at least Master (3rd difficulty) to experience some Souls-ish combat.

The Vader scene was amazing, excellent combat, fine history but the game really got me on the exploration side, I love that the game isn't as easy as most of games now days (I played on Jedi Master mode), the only problem for me were the bugs and frame drops, but I'm pretty sure they'll fix it in the future, great game, I recommend for any star wars fans out there to try it Expand

This game is all kinds of buggy. From voice sync issues, to rope and climbing issues, to very clunky attack system. The worst is the jumping. For a game that relies on it so heavily you think they would have play tested it.

Just finished the game on Jedi Master. It's a very enjoyable game. A very linear single player experience with no micro transactions, felt like playing a PS2 title.

The visuals are crisp although I was playing Death Stranding before and it made this game's visuals very ordinary. Light Saber doesn't feel powerful except slicing regular storm troopers apart. Love the spark effects though.

Characters are very good although I felt there wasn't enough time to build relationships with them especially the Night sister. Overall campaign took about 20hrs.

Couple things I hate about this game is the slow loading screens. When you make a game with a similar model to the Souls series where you're expected to die many times you'd make the loading screens a bit shorter. Hopefully they'll iron this one out soon because it's very frustrating.

Others is the clunky controls especially with the sliding terrain. The other is the vine climbing and platforming. Cal feels like an old man jumping around desperately. Luckily when you fall to your death it respawns you quickly with a bit of your health gone.

Overall, it's step in the right direction. Could of wished it had a bit more content maybe including some lightsaber forms. A solid 7.5 rounded to a 8.

A really fun game, combat is challenging, the bosses can be really hard and I was playing on normal difficulty (Jedi Master), the story is interesting and exploring the planet is really fun. Visually it not the impressive, in cutscene some of the character pop up out of nowhere and the environment didn't render properly. Is a really good game, I recommended

I don't mind that this game borrowed a lot of great aspects from other games. The jumping, sliding, climbing, and swinging remind me of Uncharted. The combat is most similar to Sekiro. Another negative is that the platforming sometimes doesn't work even if you did it right. Even though Cal is positioned perfectly, he won't attempt to grab the ledge or rope. I slightly agree with other reviewers that some particular fights are completely unfair. Fallen Order, 8/10. Expand

As someone with limited time to play games, the shame of Fallen Order stems from multiple frustrations. It’s hard to fight and, worse, it’s hard to move. The game’s timing issues distracted me from both the story and the beautifully constructed worlds; I was too focused on simply staying alive. My many (many, many, many) deaths discouraged me from exploring worlds — all of them beautiful — as did the simple fact that traveling by foot (even a Jedi’s Force-enhanced feet) takes forever.

Respawn has shown us, and EA, that single player games are well enough alive and kicking and has set a bright future for the Star Wars franchise of videogames if they keep this up.
