I initially gave this a 4 given how little content the base game has... If you get this including season pass on an offer for £20-25 it is, however, actually fairly good.

I have now been playing around 9 hours after I forced myself to get into it, and am now at level 13. I can safely say SW:BF gets better once you have a few item unlocks, when you know the maps, and when you can distinguish the good from the bad modes - walker assault for instance is pretty amazing once you know what you have to do. It is still basic shallow pew-pew shooting but it pulls you in, especially the endor map. Hero hunt on the other hand is a load of BS, avoid this... Mediocre/potentially fun modes are cargo (CTF equivalent) and fighter squadron... the latter can be fun to jump into every now and again, but it is frustrating how barren the gameplay is at times.

Overall this game has grown on me over the past few days, and anyone who is a serious star wars fan should give it a go. It is, however, nothing more than a shallow 3rd person/fps game that could have been so much more... if only DICE had added classes and a single player campaign...

    Buy only when on offer.

A good game, but not without its flaws. The game unfortunately lacks any story, but it is a hell of a lot of fun to play, with great heroes and fun weapons. This is easy to pick up and blast away at enemies.

I've played the game countless times and over 400 hours, it is indeed incredibly beautiful and thematic and I love that, but hell there are 3 things you should know before considering to buy it or its sequel:

    1) very weak cheating control, 1-2 guys often ruin a game of 40; 2) EA servers only, and this is bad, like profit maximization bad. If they decide to stop to support the game

    3) Non existent server customization search. The multiplayer server mechanics forces you to play in the same server always different maps. I wish I was able to search for a server that plays one map only.

The two-camera modes first-person and third-person have no issues and switching between them is easy but as Battlefront shows us looks aren't everything. The problem with Battlefront isn't on a technical level it plays and runs fine but other problems contribute to it's downfall. Battlefront simply doesn't offer the player enough content to work with and all though single-player elements were thrown into the game there isn't enough diversity in missions or customization for matches in fact there is no customization outside of gun and perks; This is a big issue for me I would expect to edit the game maybe my character add some more AI for a huge battle! But sadly, Battlefront doesn't allow me to do that. Next the modes range from multiplayer/single player but Battlefront thinks to small it feels more like a Battlefield re-skin or mod than an actually different game. Battlefront was given the golden opportunity to become the first game of the Star Wars franchise on current gen (PS4, Xbox One) consoles as all the Battlefront games before than was on PC,PS2,Original Xbox and Xbox 360 but it cannot surpass it's predecessors. Lack of large-scale space warfare hurt the game and dealt a powerful blow to fans of the Star Wars franchise. Battlefront's music choice is also very basic I can almost hear the same track playing on any mission I choose to play. It seems like a limited experience as if it was a beta, we should have gotten the cancelled game that looked more entertaining than this. In the end Battlefront was just a commercial game it was designed to trick gamers in with it's shiny graphics and Star Wars logo but gamers got smart and Battlefront's popularity plummeted quickly; Also the amount of DLC present in the game is cringe-worthy. It might be fun to blast storm troopers with your laser rifle that never runs out of ammo but don't expect anything more from Battlefront other than short challenges and combat. Expand

I didn't even touch on the flight controls. The ships are stiff and do not fly right. This game basically controls ships like cars. Push left to move left, right to move right. A proper flight simulator would allow you to roll the craft and pull up to turn sharply. The flying missions were what attracted me to this game, and I was thoroughly dissapointed. I'm glad I got it on sale on PSN, because $10 even seems steep for this game. It's EA, so I guess I should've expected a really shiny and polished turd. Expand

Full Review: Battlefront for the PS4 has been equipped with all of the frills of FPS gameplay - powerful visuals, great graphics, plenty of weapon variety, and engaging combat mechanics. And yet, they stripped of most of the things that made the franchise charming, unique and lovable. No more "Galactic War" gameplay modes, no campaigns, and no more leading your troops with AI commands.

What's left is a game with bare bones Single Player and Split-screen modes, and an Online Multiplayer that has almost nothing to distinguish it from every other major FPS on the market. The fact that this game is more-or-less entirely Online Multiplayer focused could be acceptable if they gave the online games depth, i.e. lots of maps, complex objectives, game-mode customization.

However, the game has only a handful of maps, simple objectives, and basic modes. Following in EA's traditional customer-gouging custom, several of extra maps, which should have been included to make this barren game feel more complete, only come at a high extra cost.

I must admit, I did find the Online Multiplayer to be a somewhat addicting experience. There certainly were positives in the combat mechanics, visuals, and trying out different vehicles and weaponry. However, I cannot get over the fact that this game feels so empty and incomplete.

What's really disappointing about DICE's Star Wars Battlefront reboot is that after that magical feeling of nostalgia eventually dissipates, you're left with a game that has very little substance. What hammers that point even further is that more than half the game's content is locked behind an 'Online Only' wall. Offline players won't have long to exhaust what's available to them.

The graphics are top notch, but once you've tried every 'different' blaster, rifle or whatever, they all feel the same pretty much. The maps, once again, look great, but their orientation is limiting. Battles eventuate to being whoever shoots first (I'm looking at you Han Solo) or whoever gets finished off because their health meter was 90% depleted.

Playing as heroes is no better: Once the magic of playing as Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, The Emperor, Boba Fett, Han Solo or Princess Leia wears off, you're instantly bored. This is also a downside when you compare this line-up of characters in comparison to the roster of heroes and villains available in Pandemic's Star Wars Battlefront 2.

Not only that, but heroes in DICE's reboot have finite health, requiring players to scurry about and look-up for a health replenishment item. This means hero battles boil down to a frustrating race to keep your health topped up or prevent the other player from reaching said health item.

For offline players, the Tutorials only hold that opportunity to pilot an X-Wing, a speeder and an AT-ST. Survival is probably the only replay worthy material, but this itself is a frustrating limited experience.

Overall, Battlefront is a limited title that will quickly expire in terms of public interest. The only thing for DICE to do is to radically improve the inevitable sequel. For a real Star Wars Battlefront experience, play the 10 year old sequel released by Pandemic.

Multiplayer - Overall it is not bad. They have continued to improve some of the earlier abused elements (Homing Shot) however the lack of more maps for bigger games is a turn off.

Campaign - The fact that one doesn't exist automatically gives this game a 5. You have the best source material in the world and you couldn't come up with a story about a regular old Rebel Solder... very lackluster.

Shambles of a game. If this didn't have the Star Wars in the title the servers would have been shut down already. It feels like playing a beta even with the season pass, which is a con for two reasons - it's overpriced for the paltry amount of content within and secondly the only players that use the DLC are the losers that sit on the game all day every day.

Good thigs first, the gameplay, feels smooth and fast but not too fast and the gun fight lasts long enough (you don’t die too fast nor too slow) which is good as having better aim compared to your opponent can really make a difference, but there is still some room for luck and randomness which is good. Weapons are good and they feel and are different, I’ve read a lot of people complaining that all weapons are the same, that they are not different and that it doesn’t make any difference if you equip A or B. I strongly disagree with this; maybe not all weapons are different but there are definitely quite a few different groups. For example, if we focus on fire rate, there are slow and fast weapons (usually slow weapons are powerful and fast not as much), so depending on how good your aim is, it makes quite a huge difference which one you choose. Low fire rate weapons are usually powerful and overheat quickly which means you need to have good aim or otherwise they’re useless, on the other hand high fire rate weapons are basically the opposite. Also depending on the map you might want to change the weapon you use; e.g. for wide open maps you may like a long range weapon, but this one is probably not that effective in the smaller “corridor-like” maps. Same with the gadgets, you have to give it a bit of thought if you want to use the best gadget for both your skills and map/game mode. Basically, choosing the right equipment makes a huge difference if you’re playing to win, and this is good; if you’re just playing to randomly and pointlessly shoot around and kill, then I guess it doesn’t really matter but I don’t think that’s the game’s fault.

Anyway, bad things, the first bad thing for me is the fact that there is a huge breach in equipment between let’s say low rank players (1-20) and high rank players (40+). You basically start with almost nothing, in terms of weapons and gadgets and that ruins a bit the experience at the beginning. First, chances are a lot of people are going to kill you loads just because they have better equipment. That is kind of all right as it is a bit like that in all games. However, I think it is quite quite frustrating when that breach makes you pretty much useless in certain game modes compared to high rank players. For example, in cargo, drop zone and droid run (you basically have to capture something by interacting with it) it makes a huge difference to have personal shields for blaster defense, or a jetpack to chase the enemy carrier, stunning grenades etc etc. With the kind of kit they give you at the beginning you are severely in disadvantage and that, my friends, spoils the fun a bit. I really think they should have given rookies better stuff. Second stuff that frustrates me quite a lot, is the respawn locations, it is not strange at all in this game to spawn in the middle of an enemy mob and that means you’re gonna die instantly. This doesn’t happen this often in other games so there is something wrong here either with the respawn design or the maps, but it is frustrating as hell. Finally, this game feels far too chaotic, I know…partially is because people play in a chaotic way, but again it feels a lot more chaotic here than in other games. You find yourself too often in the middle of crossfires and it is not because the opponents have managed to perform an awesome strategic group manoeuvre, no, it is just random and as I said before, many times is right after respawn.

Anyway, when you get past the initial lack of equipment the game is more and quite enjoyable as you can start to create your own “pseudo-class” and try to make a difference in a match. The problem is it will take you quite a bit to get to that point so there is a good chance you’ll get bored/frustrated in the way. If you’re in doubt as I was, I would suggest you get a second hand copy (they’re quite cheap now) and you give it a good play. If you like it, good get the season pass if you don’t just get rid of it and you didn’t lose too much money (I’m still trying to decide myself!).

This games is spot on! The season pass is good too! Great shooting game with great game modes and many Easter eggs for the die-hard fans! I play this game heavily and spent much time seeing how I can do batter. Also, they have added more single player modes and have added more maps. This game has been a blast for me!

Graphics are undeniably good, this is true, and it's fun to be tooling about the Star Wars universe. But there's just no way around it: this game is boring. You've pretty much seen it all after an hour of playing. Beyond that, it's just more of the same. Most expensive 1-hour of gameplay ever!

Not to mention the disgusting 50 dollar season pass which actually contains content. This game represents everything wrong with the gaming industry. Overpriced season passes that contain the actual game, shallow modes, and no effort put in. This game isn't bad objectively, but because of how this game left me feeling I decided to put it this low. If you're looking for a good online game get Overwatch and I'm sure there are plenty of other Star Wars games that are complete. The worst thing is that I gave my hard earned money to EA and am thus supporting cash grabs like this. At least I didn't get the season pass and EA isn't getting my money anytime soon. It's a shame this game uses the Star Wars brand mainly to attract more money. Expand

Great sound and graphics, gameplay still fun in short bursts and there are occasional free updates. It is lacking in depth though hence the short bursts before its gets repetitive.
Weapon customization such as changing scopes would have given the game a more personal touch as the star cards and weapon choice are about the limits of your load out.
The fighter squadron mode needs more

The fighter squadron mode needs more varied maps with building/terrain to weave in and out of.
The magic token method of getting in a vehicle I also find immersion breaking and much before the old battlefront method of entering exiting vehicles and landing where you please.
As everyone says no space battles and too much dlc/ not enough with base game really hurts it.

The graphics are simply amazing, super detail to the environment (when you have time to look at it when your not being shot at), the lighting effects from the sky to the guns. The sand and snow levels were awesome. the storm troopers to the rebels and their vehicles was really good. On to sound now its great, nothing new but standard John Williams. The gun sound effects are beautiful just like the films and the voice acting are pretty good apart from Han solo.
The cons... well everything else, the gameplay is way too casual and generic at best (point and shoot). No space battles and its called "STAR WARS".There is no strategy behind it and i don,t know why its called battlefront because your not at the front of the battle, there is rarely a battle where both sides collide together in a battlefront, most of the time your on your own shooting people in the back while there shooting others in the back and you get killed the same way too. The respawns are terrible i mean come on, when you die (which happens a lot) you can respawn at the beginning of the map and take like 2 minutes to back up into the fighting area just to get killed again or you could be respawned behind enemy lines where you will either instantly die or shoot loads of them in the back(oh by the way love the snipers, campers and trolls... that takes real skill) . By the way the pick up cards are rubbish especially the vehicle ones, the second you get in a vehicle everyone targets you so you don't get to play with them much, the at-at walker is on rails!, the speeder bike is useless and the flying craft all pretty much feel the same. This should not be called battlefront it should be called star wars arena. there is zero single player campaign which not just me but lots of others wanted. the best you get is the tutorials which last up to an hour and get to see what it would be like to have a single player story and then whack! door slam to the face, there is no more single player unless you count the "battles" they are terrible! its like the multiplayer battles except your with up to 4 a.i (which they are not there dumb) and the maps are tiny i mean its like running around the park with your friends at 8 years old with lasers except that's more fun, just ugh!. the multiplayer maps are shockingly small for a multiplayer based game unless you count the 39.99 pounds season pass (just bike it E.A into the pit of despair from whence you came), this is just stinging the fans if ever i saw it. E.A are evil they give you nice looking games and misleading and false trailers and pretty much every game they make is 54.99 pounds(that's the standard edition! deluxe is 69.99! whereas the ultimate with the season pass is 104.98 pounds!!! just NO!) this has got to be one of the most controversial games ever. so many people love it and i get it its star wars. You first play it and its like cool i'm in a star wars movie but after an hour or 2 it wore off. I've spent about 2 dozen hours playing all the modes and i've had my fill with no need to ever revisit. its practically a bad game or rather just a huge disappointment. i f you gonna buy wait for it to go on offer online (which trust me i've seen it on offer in the psn store about half a dozen times) or buy from your local game store they have tons of them on shelf... i wonder why?. DO NOT buy the season pass or the deluxe edition(because the deluxe edition content you can earn in the game for free apart from 2 exclusive emotes! wow! great deal! and the season pass if you buy it then your saying to dice and E.A here take my money for content that should be in the game upon release) its half a game on release and it will never be a complete game with the dlc. one last thing do not pre order E.A games i and many others have been stung by them before many times. Its going to be hard to resist pre ordering mass effect Andromeda though. thanks for reading my first ever review :-)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Star Wars Battlefront ImageStar Wars: Battlefield... I mean Star Wars: Battlefraud is the latest disappointment from EA and DICE!

Immerse yourself in the ultimate Star Wars experience where everyone is running around as helmetless Stormtroopers and Shadow Troopers and Scout Troopers are running around on every map!

The game features a bunch of boring, dull, loud, confusing and repetitive gamemodes to play on! Let's list them all!
    - Fighter Squadron: Surprise! DICE were too lazy to program space battles so they put you in a Star Fighter above the 4 planets of the game! No, no not in space. Above the ground. They should call in Wars: Battlefront because THERE ARE NO STARS!
    - Supremecy: Capture and defend control points
    - Walker Assault: Attack or defend AT-ATs
    - Cargo: Capture an object
    - Droid Run: Capture an object
    - Drop Zone: Capture an object
    - Blast: Just the regular TDM that exist in every multiplayer game ever created
    - Heroes vs Villains: Defeat the Heroes or Villains
    - Hero Hunt: Defeat the Hero or Villain to play as one, as long as you deal the most damage of course
    - Turning Point: I already listed this one, it's called "Supremecy"
    - Extraction: Please buy the $50 Season Pass in order to get access to this gamemode that nobody plays.

The game also features no offline content, space battles, Galactic Conquest or balanced gameplay!

This game is a joke. It's so pathetic that a small company in 2005 can do everything better than a huge company in 2016 can. Don't buy this game unless you want to pay $50 more just to get some actual content.

EDIT: That review was before the Bespin DLC launched. Now the game is even worse. Hell you can't even play the game because the HUD is gone. And if you actually get into a game you'll just die in the first 5 second. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING in the game is unbalanced. Wanna play Heroes vs Villains? Nope, you'll just die in 5 shots by either Greedo, Dengar or random f*cking Stormtroopers spamming Explosive Shot. This has to be one of the worst games I have ever played. Don't f*cking buy this garbage. Don't buy the Season Pass.

But it's okay for the Season Pass to be $50 because EA won't add microtransactions. OH WAIT! That's f*cking right! Standard Edition, Deluxe Edition, Ultimate Edition, $50 Season Pass, 4 DLCs AND microtransactions! This has to be one of the biggest money grabs in history. EA has total control of one of the most beloved francise ever made. And what do they do with it? Create mobile games and pump out yearly unfinished Star Wars games full with microtransactions and paywalls. Because EA doesn't give a damn about Star Wars. They just want money out of it!

But it's okay that they added microtransactions because they're adding free content! Yay! 3 new maps (1 old) and 2 Hero skins!

In fact, let's compare SWBF2 to SWBFEA:
    - Number of maps/planets: SWBF2 - 33, SWBFEA - 20
    - Number of players: SWBF2: 32v32 (Larger on PC), SWBFEA - 20v20
    - Space Battles?: SWBF2 - Yes, SWBFEA - No
    - Moddable?: SWBF2 - Yes, SWBFEA - No
    - DLC?: SWBF2 - 1 DLCs with 4 new maps and 2 new Heroes $5, SWFEA - 4 DLCs Unknown amount of maps, 8 new Heroes, more weapons, skins and star cards $50
    - Campaign?: SWBF2 - Yes, SWBFEA - No
    - Galactic Conquest?: SWBF2 - Yes, SWBFEA - No
    - Instant Action?: SWBF2 - Yes, SWBFEA - No
    - Infantry Types: SWBF2 - 51 playable infantry types and 19 Heroes, SWBFEA - Loudouts only and only 6 Heroes
Vehicle Types: 37 controllable vehicles and 15 controllable turrets, SWBFEA - 8 controllable vehicles and 3 controllable turrets
    A.I players?: SWBF2 - Yes, SWBFEA - 1 mode only
Playable eras: SWBF2 - Original and prequels, SWBFEA - Original
    Release Date: SWBF2 - November 2005, SWBFEA - November 2015

See how much how much of a joke this game is? SWBF2 has more content and does everything better than SWBFEA.

The game doesn't even have any f*cking logic. Turrets can hit you behind cover by hitting the ground next to you, although turrets doesn't even have any splash damage! Shotguns deals 50 damage across the map, killing you in 2 shots! Luie can hit you with his lighsaber when you're in the f*cking air! You're probably thinking "It's a Star Wars game, it doesn't need logic". Well, you're the only reason EA is still publishing games. Because people like you defends an unfinished product. You're even defending EA putting the whole game behind a $50 paywall.

I'm starting to run out of characters here. So don't buy this game. Don't even think about buying it.

The worst part about this game is that their are only a handful of gigantic maps where your presence virtually does not matter. The skill cap seems extremely low; the game actually seems designed to make you die. Obtaining a vehicle can be extremely difficult and they are usually not even worth the effort; obtaining the Jedi position is even harder and due to its rarity is kind of pointless. The lack of a local multiplayer means your forced to die continuously fighting strangers, unlocking guns that all seem to be the same gun with different stats, other than, of course, the gun that you are forced to pay extra money for (meaning if your willing to spend an extra $10 you unlock by far the best gun taking all incentive out of the game). The game is designed for low-skilled level players who enjoy mindless first person shooters. The only good thing about this game is the fact that the graphics are outstanding and the fact that its in the star wars universe. Overall, wouldn't recommend this game to anyone above the ages of 10. Expand

While there’s a good selection of improvements – including graphically – and definitely recreates the feeling of being in the Star Wars universe, yet compared to previous instalments, there seems to be a lot missing.

Gameplay: Controls are very simple and easy to understand, as well as being very responsive. It is great to be a Stormtrooper or a Rebel fighter until you step forward and then proceed to spontaneously combust or grow blaster wounds in vital areas. In short, the online multiplayer is very chaotic and once you do manage to survive long enough to acquire any interesting weapons or vehicles, it feels very anticlimactic, disappointingly as dull as everything else you would’ve done in the game so far.

If you’d rather avoid the overwhelming multiplayer modes, the offline features aren’t exactly more welcoming. There only a very limited number of game modes available which have almost no content or challenge to them, and are either too short or too slow.

However, some of the most fun I have had in the game is in the Hero Battles. Despite being very oddly paced at times, it’s hard to deny that it is really fun running around and choking people as Darth Vader, waving your lightsaber around as Luke Skywalker, doing crazy flips as Emperor Palpatine or shooting enemies as Han Solo, Fett or Leia.

Visuals/Sound: One of the only defining qualities of this game is the atmosphere. This newest addition to Battlefront is undoubtedly the best looking and sounding Star Wars game to date. The scenery, the characters, the sounds and effects are all very authentic to the original trilogy and very easily immerses players in the world of Star Wars.

Even for those who would be considered indifferent about the Star Wars movies would find this experience thrilling. It really does feel like you’re taking part in a battle within Star Wars itself. However, this would be a good excuse to own the game already, rather than a reason to buy it in the first place; unless of course you are a self-proclaimed massive fan of Star Wars, in which case this is the game for you.

Summary: A very tight, rather generic shooter, disguised as a good-looking Star Wars game. Definitely not the best Star Wars game out there, and without a doubt not the best Battlefront game. There is genuine fun to be had in this game, for about an hour or so. Unless you’re a big Star Wars fan, the newest Battlefront will get old, fast. Even then, it’ll get old eventually.

One gun has pretty much to stats in everything, so it is the gun you need to be competitive, and if you want to unlock everything you must get paid DLCs. This is unacceptable for a full price game. There is less content than most F2P games aswell.

There are no space battles, half of the fun of bf2, but there is lame sky battles that consist of escorting a ship to safety. The controls are dumbed down and it is no where near as fun as trying to destroy the enemies mothership in bf2. No strategy, just chaos.

Vehicles are few in the ground games. They are also not varied and usually consist of perhaps an X wing, which you get from getting power ups on the map. The old games had many vehicles of all shapes and sizes like AT-AT's, Roller droids and a range of ships. Only two main ships appear for each class in the flying gamemode, and many vehicles are no longer controllable, like AT-AT's. Half of the old games was being in vehicles- do you just hate dun, EA?

Also, maps are bland, basically open spaces and battles are clusterf*cks, not coherent at all. No where near as well made as the old games and I don't like the look of them as much. They have better graphics, yes, but they are just bland and variants of grey and brown.

There is no meaningful single player campaign, just a God-awful survival mode. The old games had a fun single player where you played as a soldier rather than the hero and progressed through maps telling the whole star wars story from the front lines, from the prequels to the originals. Also, Galactic Conquest is gone, and instant action.

Galactic conquest was very fun but the loss of instant action is awful. It allowed friends to team up or oppose each other, and play against relatively good AI in objective games, not a rubbish survival with crap AI. The game is barebones with, and even without DLC.

The lack of prequel inspired content and very few things from the original movies, there is a lack of things to do and it doesn't feel that Star Wars-y.

I didn't expect much, EA, but this was the worst game of 2015 and craps on the brand.
Final score 0/10- hate this terrible game.

By far, this game has enough content to compare it with Battlefront II.
The graphics at it's best, the gameplay as it's best, the servers are great. This game will give you at least 50 hours of gameplay before starts to be boring. People are hating this game because they don't want to afford over $100 on the game + extra content. It's a masterpiece.

I love Battlefront. I do agree that it has a couple of big things missing. Primary among those a full single player experience and better matchmaking aimed at balance.
That said, the graphics are amazing. I find myself wanting to just watch the background sometimes, or investigate the far corners of the map just to see what is there. Beautiful, almost like moving artwork.

The gameplay can be extremely satisfying, and I’m no FPS pro. I’m a veteran of games like Doom and Halo, but never was good at ‘twitchy’ games like Battlefront or Call of Duty. Perseverance does pay off, with better side arms and accessories, and with gameplay experience that translates to a better understanding of why and how to attack a mission. That perspective gives a better gameplay experience than just running to the front, shooting, and dying, over and over. I’m a stats guy, and though mine are not good – I still take pride in improvement, and the fun moment of a plan being executed.
Some missions will be more fun depending on the gameplay experience you want to have. Too much run and gun? Try Extraction or Cargo Run, where stealth can pay dividends. Playing as the heroes is always fun, though difficult at times. And the Starfighter battles are good. Not great – like the old X-Wing and TIE Fighter games on PC. They tend to be a big fur ball, like an old cartoon, but it’s still fun to drop in on every once in a while.
If you like Star Wars, and like FPS at all, you will love playing Battlefront. Until you get hosed 1kill-9deaths in a mission. Then you will decide how much you like it – and do you want to improve. There is no wrong answer there, and I do look forward to a full single player in the next SW Battlefront.

But how is it possible that after all these years since they came out that the game has got worse?!

New developer is the main reason behind this. They have even just said in an interview that the reason a single player campaign wasn't included was to release the game out with the Force Awakens film. That statement pretty much sums up the whole game, extremely rushed. Why?

Well firstly there's no single player campaign as previously stated. Why is this a bad thing? Well for someone like me who doesn't really get that much chance to play games due to studying and work etc I want to play games for fun, which means doing my own thing and working at my own pace. I don't want to have to play against people who have 2 weeks gametime knowing all the best routes and weapons and tactics, it's just not fun!

Secondly, there's no Clone Wars at all!! I know some people weren't a fan of the Prequel films which is fair enough, each to their own. But the large majority of them people still want it in the game! The Clone WARS era was a period of time where battles took place on a regular basis so it makes no sense at all why it's not in the game! I for one really liked the Prequels, and I definitely will not be picking up the sequel to EA's battlefront if they do not add this in.

Thirdly, no space battles! The game is based around STAR Wars and has no map, gamemode or even a single image of space!!! That's absolutely shambolic for a film based around space! Three of the games that came out previously years and years ago had space battles! Even ground to space battles in the PSP version! How can they not have this in the game??

I could keep going on forever and ever as there are so many reasons as to why this is such a poor game like the fact that pre-DLC release there were 4 planets....4 PLANETS!!! Where the game is based on a film with space travel!! In the originals alone we had Tatooine, Yavin 4, Bespin, Dagobah, Endor, Hoth, we can even have Alderaan, I'm sure the developers could have some imagination, the Death Star and I can't think of any others off the top of my head. But it's just poor.

I will not be buying the next game in the franchise unless they include Clone Wars content and some sort of Single Player aspect which is better than the stuff they have there at the moment, not too much to ask for considering the original battefront games 10 years ago could manage it.

That said, the 20 on 20 matches are great when people are playing the objective (which is maybe 50% of the time) , the vehicles are fun to use and the gun controls are refreshingly simple. A couple of critical notes:

Starfighter combat mode is okay, but there Imperial/Rebel fighters are terribly unbalanced. The rebel jet will win 8 times out of 10. It's better to dogfight over a ground battle (e.g. Supremacy) than to play full out Fighter Squadron mode.

Hero vs Hero used to be my favorite mode, I played it every day. Sure, you couldn't choose your hero and hoped to spawn as your favorite but that also made you learn to use characters you would otherwise have avoided and perhaps have more fun than you expected (looking at you, Palp and Leia). Unfortunately in one of the more recent updates they changed things so that you can choose your hero and that generally means button mashing to get who you want, which takes the entire spirit out of the process. I've played once or twice since they changed it but haven't played HvH again in months. It's too bad.

However, the newer maps are great, I love the emojis, graphics of course are lavish, etc etc. Try to get this game under $20 because that's really what a game without a campaign mode and a relatively straight forward multiplayer model should cost..

I won't say this is poor value for money as that is a subjective matter for each individual. There is about one to two hour's play offline before the repetition kicks in. Online the game appears to offer no depth for the experienced FPS player and the chaotic nature, possibly as a result of the simplified controls and aiming, makes for a very short and annoying experience for the casual gamer. At first I didn't care much for it, but this game shows its true colors the more you play it. The new SW Battlefront is extremely well made and doesn't have nearly as many problems as people are claiming. My 'Cons' list might be drastically longer than the 'Pros', but make no mistake this is an excellent game that I am still playing constantly.

    Pros -
Presentation: The game looks and plays incredibly. Not only as a Star Wars entity, but as a game on its own. It almost makes me feel like I'm a kid, playing at the arcade on some high-budget Star Wars game that will never in a million years make it to console. But this truly is that game. The musical numbers from the trilogy are well selected, and it sounds and looks about as much as Star Wars as you can get.

Multiplayer: Playing with friends is easy to set up and endlessly fun.

    Cons -

Overall Game Interface: The title screen and menus for this game feel like a damn Health Insurance website. Having to register for some worthless EA account isn't exactly a pleasure either.

Imbalanced Game Mechanics: During flying mode (Flight Squadron) it is pretty obvious that the Imperials have a disadvantage. While Rebel ships are equipped with shields, Tie fighters only have a boost which doesn't do much good in a battle. Maybe it would if this were a race...(or a Pod race)

Heroes: I do not care for Hero mode. Nostalgia is not as important as gameplay and these guys are nearly impossible to kill unless you gang up on them.

Simplicity: It's a simple game. You start on a menu, you select a game, and then you shoot lasers at each other and that's pretty much it. If you want more out of your video games, or just a more in depth open world choice-based experience, you won't find that in Battlefront.

Content Releases: 50 dollars is a little steep for just the first quarter of an expansion (which so far is only 1 new level). And the 'new heroes' are just characters we already had (Nien Numb and a Rodian), with different color clothing. It just reeks of 'Scammery'.

Once again, this game will grow on you. At first it is very simple, almost too simple. You start with very little inventory, and basically no customization options. But the more you play, the more you are able to unlock and you start to see how in depth this game really is. There are far more items, weapons and fighting mechanics than what seems at first glance. And I can't stress enough how much more fun it is to play if you have a friend or two. That seems to be how this game was meant to be played. Being a major Star Wars nerd doesn't hurt either.

-Very slim pickings of games both on and offline games. Offline missions are extremely repetitive.
-No vehicles in normal game-play, all are in separate modes so far as I could tell. Doesn't feel like old battlefront. (Half the fun of old battlefront was getting into a tank and racking up an absurd amount of kills.)

And online play is just as lackluster, if not downright tedious at the best of times. Unlocks are a joke, and the only worth while cosmetic customizations are only available at max rank, so you have to grind for days just to look a little better than your peers. But that has a drawback because being the only shadow trooper on hoth or tatooine will make you stand out, and look like a nice and juicy target. The only people giving this game anything above a 5 are "professional" critics who were paid to give it a good review, or diehard star wars fans who think that just because it has the words Star Wars on the box, that makes it good. EA can do so much better than this. Do not waste a single penny on this game. If a friend gives it to you, go ahead and play it, but you'll quickly give it back. Expand

Such a disappointment I absoloutley loved Battlefront 1 and 2 and I was depressed when I found out everything good about those games was not going to be in the game, and was more than likely going to be in the season pass, thanks for ruining a beloved franchise EA.

Graphics are amazing, along with game play, lots of maps and game modes, but this game doesn't have enough customization or weapons.
Didn't live up to the potential of the old games.

Star Wars Battlefront looks and feels like Star Wars, that's it. The multiplayer is just Call of Duty in the Star Wars universe. Very disappointed with the content and the lack of it. I am a really big Star Wars fan and always have been. That being said, I'm not a big fan of this game. Cons: The game just doesn't play like it should. Whether it be the inability to scale a rock that is smaller than your shoe or the total lack of response from weapons. On top of these smaller factors are the much larger factors such as the price tag in total ($110 for game and season pass), the awful updates that try to "fix" what wasn't broken in the game to make it a level playing field, and that major lack of content. Battlefront 1 and 2 were jam packed full of content with multiplayer, galactic conquest, and CAMPAIGN (which for some reason isn't important anymore). First, this up in prices isn't just for Star Wars Battlefront, but still. I don't want to pay 60-70$ for a game only to have the DLC season pass (all of the items that were originally on there that were just held back) come out shortly after for another $50. Had it been 20$ it may not have been as big of an ordeal. Secondly, these updates really need to quit trying to level the game out. There is no point in allowing level progression if you're going to nerf all of the stronger weapons and buff all of the weaker ones, just make a linear game with one a full-auto, semi-auto, and burst gun at that point. Lastly, the biggest surprise to me was the upsetting fact that EA felt in their hearts (assuming they have them) that campaign is for chumps and Star Wars (a franchise known for its stories) didn't need an actual campaign to appeal to gamers. That is about as smart as reading instructions telling you to not put your hand in a blender and then putting it in there anyway and slamming down the pulse button. These lackluster, repetitive "missions" are a joke, its just training AI with buffed reaction time. If EA makes a sequel to this game (which I really hope they do and do it right) then there needs to be a campaign, better weapons/ versatility, and perhaps a lower price tag (ha). Oh, and if you're going to charge $110 for a star wars game, the gamers should at least get every single Star Wars and not just the OT (even if you hate the prequels).

Pros: The real reason this game gets a 4 and not a 1 is because of my love of Star Wars, but still there are some good factors about the game too. The switch between FPS and TPS is an amazing addition, the graphics are phenomenal, and the maps are pretty fun despite being so few. FPS are my favorite game type, but Battlefront is the first TPS I've played in a while that I actually prefer instead the other view. Sure there are strategic values to using third-person over first, but it just feels better and almost like you're watching a star wars movie in third-person. In the latest update, the graphics were improved slightly again, and they look outstanding. You can see the glimmer of sun rays off of armor, dents in vehicles, and each separate bolt of lightning bolting at you. Lastly, the maps are great and nicely organized (except those pitiful spawn points) which I would probably bet that was DICE's work and not EA as DICE does a great job creating beautiful and massive maps. The downside to the maps, though, is that there are so few (9 original, 2 free so far, and "4" dlc).

Overall, I would buy this game just to have a Star Wars game to play every now and again. For now, I'll continue playing Batman and Warframe until No Man's Sky comes out.

I wish there was more here. This is probably, the best looking game I have ever played, honestly. Hoth and Endor are superb, and playing on these maps really make you feel like you are part of the Star Wars movie. With no single player offering, which I would have absolutely no problem with if the rest of the game had more content and substance, the game suffers from absolutely no signs of longevity present. The spawning system on most game types are horrendous, often putting you right back into the action that you recently died from. The only particularly good and interesting character skins can be unlocked from level 40 onwards, as if EA expected people to play 4 maps with possibly 3, 4 (at a push) fun game modes.

Speaking of EA, I wonder who's idea it was to add a season pass to this game which is the same price as the actual game. Does it sound like something EA would do? If releasing half a game and charging £50 for a season pass is the new way forward then I fear for future big releases.

Wait,I feel like I've said this before?

They did make up in some ways for the missing campaign with missions you can complete. its a nice change of pace from online. But this game could have been SO much better and i am disappointed that it seems like they rushed it...DICE is known for rushing games so they can start working on the next one. Instead they should take notes from other GREAT gaming companies such as Naughty Dog and Bethesda. ( yes i know they make different games) Point is they spend years making games and its well worth your money. All in all i think if you are a huge star wars fan you will be let down but its not terrible. Not worth 65 bucks but when it comes down to 25 i would say its worth picking up. 6/10 Expand

Looks and sounds absolutely incredible - you are in Star Wars... Where you will spend a lot of time running and dying. Such a missed opportunity it is almost criminal. Lack of single player campaign and the obvious missing elements that will be offered as paid DLC is also criminal.

    Such a shame :-(

Sure, the game is fun for an hour or two. But after that, you have seen everything the game has to offer. It's a waste of money, and I wish the game had never been made, as the popularity will most likely make Disney more hesitant on developing more Star Wars video games. This game is not battlefront. It's a piece of VERY good looking garbage, but still garbage. Expand

Looks amazing! Seriously, I mean WOW! You do feel like you are in the SW world. Unfortunately it goes downhill from here. Cons: 1. There is no story mode, so that limits your experience. The solo or co-op missions are severely lacking. It’s just do the same thing 15 times. No, seriously, that’s it. Really!

It's not the most complex shooter, but it's the ideal pick-up-and-play experience for Star Wars fans. Stunning environments, solid shooting and immersive sound design mask the shortcomings. [Jan 2016, p.82]

With the new film of the space opera saga finally on the big screen and the release of Battlefront's new sequel, both after a decade overdue, it is definitely the best time to be a Star Wars fan. The game itself is a dream-come-true for fans, and the Star Wars spectacle is strong in this one. However, if it is depth and longevity you seek... this is not the game you are looking for.

Spectacular production values help to make this game enjoyable in the early going, but it soon enough shows that it is painfully lacking in terms of maps and depth in its current form. [Issue#265, p.72]
