    Americans crying about prices... Developing countries paying 1/8 to 1/12 of median income for any AAA titles, yet no one cares. 1/10 is almost $200 for US.

    I will try and keep this brief, Starbores gamblefront is the latest reskin for the now 15 year old Battlefield formula; over the years the game engine has progressed to be an amazing lensflare simulator where they tack the trusted battlefield gameplay loop onto it with various degrees of success. Which I admit is both reductive and cynical, but also I think is fair and accurate.

    That being said, the strength of the idea proves that the core mechanics does make for really fun game in spite of EA and Dice’s best efforts.
    Yes, this is one of those hating on EA reviews and I am not going to dress it up as otherwise because while this game really SHOULD be a must buy and it’s clear EA and Dice have spent a lot of money and technological prowess on this game the sheer naked avarice and totally anti customer practices by dragging in the worse pay to win and mobile gaming’s physiological tricks to try and induce children to develop a gambling habit and milk those most vulnerable players into those much sought after transaction whales by making the game so mindboggling frustrating to play unless you carry on with the fee to play investments like making it so you would have to spend a working week grinding to get to play Darth Vader.
    Yep that’s right, unless you carry on spending in already full price game, the key characters to even the battle out will be locked behind nigh impossible grind and you will lose to those who will just drop money to unlock them.
    TL;DR Avoid this game at all costs.    … Expand

    Loot box controversy aside, this is a piss poor Star Wars game. It’s so called “campaign” is a ladder of missions that will all last you about 4 hours. Add that with a story which holds no stakes to care for and horrible voice acting, and you have something that is a shame on the name of the Battlefront franchise, especially with the stories the older games were able to tell. Being a Star Wars fan, I appreciated the nods that DICE left in the game.     It's a consumer market. The product has "features" consumers don't want. This affects sales which affects market shares. This is exactly how a free market works. Product quality was shared among the market. EA failed not the consumer.

    Fact this game is about average in gameplay, above average in graphics and sound. But Loot boxes tied directly to progression and a incomplete campaign storyline. As of this writing EA has temporarily removed loot boxes, but said they will return. All these facts make this a no buy game!!!!!!!!!!

    This game is the epitome of years of corporate greed, customer exploitation and worst of all, taking advantage of people's love for things.

    Pay2Win is an absolute deal killer for me no matter how small the microtransaction.

    loot boxes and 4 hour Single player Campaign -9 , graphics are a 10 but everything else drags it to 1. Only 2 viable games mode in multiplayer , Light saber combat is still HORRBLE, it amount to a bunch of kid hitting a piñata

    Having played the Xbox One X version on EA Access (up to 10 hour trial, I think I hit around 6).

    This is a frustrating review to write because underneath all of the controversy there is a genuinely great game to be played.     Small preference throughout the game – this is more an annoyance to me and is completely subjective but I really dislike how the “skills” work – why do grenades respawn? All of the skills feel more like spells in Diablo than a more grounded (for lack of a better term) take, you can’t hold/cook a grenade, it’s a throwaway skill which you can use again in 30 seconds time. Same goes for weapons like shotguns and similar skills.
    Campaign (first 3 levels) - These are good, the first level is a bit out of place but at least gives an intro to the game and some neat mechanics (sealing off doors, using your drone to hack/stun) the second level, as a long term Star Wars fan was great - the depth of the level design with twists and turns, followed by the final act of the chapter was superb... All in all it's too early to judge the story, but the gameplay, look and feel of the game is excellent with lots of atmosphere.

    Arcade - a neat little single player mode which gives a bit of a taste/introduction to how things will feel online, it's a nice way of having a bit of a practice without committing to online and letting the team down.

    Multiplayer - and here is the shadow cast over an otherwise brilliant game, the gameplay (much like the rest of the game) is solid, it handles well, looks good and has a nice feel to it… but then is completely overshadowed by the unintuitive, paid to win loot box structure that undermines the entire experience. This isn't coming from someone who was doing badly at the game, I put at least 4 hours into multiplayer and am fairly average at the game (much like I am at most games) and just found myself getting more infuriated with how other players had "special skills" (which include reduced damage taken, higher power weapon mods, auto-targeting in ships, quicker cooldowns under certain circumstances) and felt like some of my deaths weren't as a result of balance or a better player, but an unfair advantage based on how the game is designed.

    The loot system not only adds an element of chance to your ranking up (which now feels arbitrary as you don't get much from actual ranks, and the money you earn buys you a mystery), some heroes are locked behind credits (which seems pointless because even if you then buy them with credits you still have to earn them in matches anyway - it just causes a delay in unlocking useful skills) - it's all completely orientated around paying money rather than unlocking through levels.

    To give transparency:

    The game revolves around star cards, star cards are assigned to 1 of 3 available slots per character class or vehicle.

    To unlock more slots you need to level up that class or vehicle (which is done by getting more star cards, NOT through gameplay).

    To upgrade the cards you need to reach certain ranks (that means you actually have to play the game to upgrade them further).

    In the daily loot crates, and the crates you can purchase with credits you earn in game you can unlock star cards (I unlocked a handful, for a random selection of heroes and classes), credits (to spend on crates) or random stuff like animations/emotes.

    I received some duplicates (which turned into 200 credits) and also had enough scrap for crafting star cards (where I got to pick what I unlocked) and was able to pick up 6 or 7 cards of my choice.

    This whole system had no bearing on my level, as I am still under rank 10 I could have achieved the exact same result as above by paying some money, to get the same random items (hyperbole) to achieve the same results.

    Microtransactions are here to stay, but in my eyes they should be cosmetic only (skins, animations, whatever you want)... If it weren't for the MTs in this game I would score it 8/10, but 3/10 is fair given my experience and I shall be waiting for some serious changes (not discounts in price, but changes) or for the rest of the game to launch on EA Access before playing it anymore.    … Expand

    Single-player mode is pretty poor and repetitive. Probably added to prevent people from complaining about lack of it. Multi-player seems sweet tho.
    And then... microtransactions happened. Thousands of people already said a lot about this bs, so i'll skip this part. If not that pay-to-win system and better campaign, this game could get 8/10    It would be a nice game if not EA's policy.

    Another great franchise ruined by EA, I just want EA to die out in my lifetime for the love of god please go away.

    The microtrasactions completely break the balance of the game and make it 100% pay to win, removing all aspects of accomplishment and progression.

    "temporarily" -this is the word of the year!!! They only turn off microtransactions temporarily so keep your guard. Then the heat will be over EA will turn P2W model on! So prepare your credit cards kids or grind 2 years to unlock the content!!! Welcome in new era of mobile AAA gaming!!!

    If you're a shooter fan, stay far away from this pile of garbage. It blows my mind that the same developer of the beloved Battlefield franchise can make something so bad. Even without the micro transactions Star Wars Battlefront 2 is simply not worth your time.

Massive stat upgrade such as double HP, or boosted aim assist are available only through loot crates. You can grind them out (with caps on hourly credit earnings) or you can bust out the wallet like EA wants.

    The grind to get these cards is exhausting without buying microtransactions, i have been 6 hours today on launch online to have my ass handed to me by players with early access who have spent a fortune on loot boxes (before they were taken from the game) with stacked out purple star cards giving them a HUGE edge over you. I got killed by a grenade that landed 15 feet away from me because the guy had a purple star card giving him a massive boost to grenade power, another time i did 170 damage to one player who had a cards which boosted health, its just a ridiculous mess with such a tedious progression system. After 5 hours on call of duty ww2 (which is still bad) i had 10 times more progression than in battlefront. The sad thing is i only picked this up after cancelling my order as i read this morning the microtransactions were gone, the fact is now the game makes no sense as it was designed around the system of frustration with the grind and giving into buying these loot boxes with cards, now you cant do that its even more of a mess. This is a new low in industry practises, i thought destiny was bad but this is abhorrent.    … Expand

    Beautiful on the outside but a disgusting monster on the inside. Worst progression system of this generation. We were promised something very special on the second outing of the dice battlefront series but despite what they had planned EA has destroyed this franchise for good.

    Also, for god's sake, stop with this "poor DICE" nonsense, they were not "forced" by EA to include lootbox in the game, stop being foolish.

    Then i subtract a point for every micro-transaction practice in the game introduced by EA.
    My end result is 0, i could subtract more points past 0 but the score bar won't go any lower And one thing that aggravates me as well is the lack of options for arcade mode(aka offline mode),no star fighter assault, no galactic    I give an 8 out of 10 for DICE on the game play i paid 60$ for.

I have spent hours playing to unlock some crates and most of the time I ending up with nothing of value. Out of 12 hours of gameplay I have unlocked only 1 real thing of value. This is because there Pay-to-Win system is there to try to get you to spend money for more chances at something good. Players do have the option of gaining scrap credits but this is gained in such minuscule quantities that it NOT a viable option.

    STORY: SP campaign is ~5.5 hours long. The story contains the most PREDICTABLE boring plot twists.

    EA has announced that they are have “Temporarily” removed the microtransactions.

    Lets face it, EA have the attitude that because it is a Star Wars Game you will buy it and play it.    … Expand

    The campaign is competent enough, but the multiplayer is a minefield of micro transactions. I'd expect this kind of nonsense from a free mobile game, not from a $60 Triple-A title. Teach EA a lesson and don't buy this game.

    For $60 you get a 4-hour-long mediocre campaign, and kids' favourite: loot crates gambling. People love gambling, it's human nature.

    They've capped the amount of in-game credits that u can farm in arcade mode, becausem theirs words: "this would lead to an unbalanced multiplayer". But they have'nt capped the amount of credits you can buy whit real money, so u can unbalance the game as much as you want to spend in their trash...gambling system!

    EA must have really been confident in the appeal of Star Wars to pull this crap. Make the game's core progression system is about loot box gambling. This is especially disgusting considering Star Wars is loved by children which are more vulnerable.     Even if it wasn't pay2win the gameplay is just as shallow and dull as battlefront 1.
    The campaign is a 4 hour cliche run in and clear wave after wave **** with the odd cut scene that has facial animations that are as bad as Mass Effect 4.
    1/10 because the game at least looks good.

Having to pay to unlock content after paying 60$ is just unacceptable and will not be tolerated.     I have played it within 10 hours EA Access trial. This is a game designed as Pay-to-Win. Just to discourage such a behaviour in 60$ game - I am giving it an 0 point user score.
    I cannot accept pay-to-win approach in game I have to pay the full price.
    I know that now loot boxes are TEMPORARILY blocked. So I am waiting for permanently removal. Then I am open to change my scoring.

    The terrible plot I was really looking forward to playing the empire
    We don't get to play the empire we're playing rebels in the wrong uniforms
    Why are we playing Luke 10 mins in oh yeah to convince the empires hard core elite troopers the change sides at the drop of a hat
    You don't get to play as the empire just as future rebels
    The empire blow up one of thier own worlds just to convince us that the lead trooper needs an incentive to change I can't remeber her name its similar to the girl in rogue one tho
    The ship levels are poor

Spending 80$ and still having to unlock heroes by either playing for a way too long time or spending more than 100$ on loot boxes is unacceptable.

    I will give a bit more in-depth of a review. I would probably give this game a 6.5/10 were it not for obvious flaws. Gameplay wise it works alright. I find it very casual-player based. Which in and of itself isn't horrible, I just find the leads the matches to be quite short. The lack of being able to choose who's on your squad discourages team-play. Even when playing the objective I found it rather hard to get those 8k needed for a hero before the imo short match finished.

    Aside from that its a mediocre shooter with the star wars essence painted over.

    I had pre-order the game, but then after finding out about how the loot boxes worked, I canceled straight away, funny things is they are not even removing it, but delaying the implementation, I will not buy any games that has loot boxes. I will continue to boycott star wars games and movies because of this until this policy is changed.

    One word: micro-transactions. EA chose to degrade Battlefront ll with their saturation of microtransactions and opt to create a product void of recreational value. Battlefront's multiplayer seems to lack motivation. Why play Battlefront ii when you could simply pay to reap all the benefits?

    How to kill the Hype and destroy a Star Wars game? A terrible combination of 2 cancers in gaming industry: lootboxes + paytowin. Pure garbage. The only good point is the campaing mode, but.... its too short.

    I really hope no one purchases this game for the full $60 due to the fact that it should be free. If EA is going to include a ranking system found in free to play games, then it should not be up there with other AAA game titles at a AAA price.     DICE did a pretty good job with the game in overall.

    But what EA does is disgusting. making me pay more money after i buy the game? and hide the heros every one wanna play behind a gambling machine (lloot boxes) 1/10 for at lest being a decent game whit out microtransactions

    Microtransactions? In a Triple AAA game? Seriously EA, listen to the player. We wanted a good campaign, and we got a short four hour campaign that was over before we even got into it. EA is still voted the worst company in America. Second year in a row.

    Star Wars Battlefront II provides a greater ambition than the previous installment. It has powerful war scenes, a brand new single player mode, and shows a much more magnificent Star Wars Universe. But just like the Jedi should be ware of the dark side of the Force, this game also meets some similar situations, such as beleaguered microtransaction elements and character growth problems. The first 10 hours of this game is full of surprises; however, the further you play this game, the more disappointed you will get.
