Add to the mix a FANTASTIC soundtrack, and you’ll find what’s essentially, one of the best role play games ever created. No matter how much you like gaming, you simply cannot afford to miss out on this masterpiece.

It’s not enough to just “Psychonauts” your way into the minds of your enemies to change their morals and make them confess to their crimes; you’ve got to broadcast to the whole of Tokyo that The Phantom Thieves are stealing the villains distorted desires. This lays out the core gameplay loop of Persona 5. Half the time it’s a social simulator where you interact with a diverse characters, each of which has a unique and developed personality, along with a major social issue, that you help them fix. Levelling up your “social links” grants abilities and bonuses in the other half of the game: a dungeon-crawling, party-based, turn-based JRPG. This is where the game goes into its own league. Inception into the minds of corrupt teachers, politicians, artists, and even a crime lord; then fight your way to the source of their twisted desires and steal it.
Persona 5 was released in 2017 by Atlus for the PlayStation Consoles. It was highly rated (average of 93/100 by user reviews), and well received by those who’d heard of the franchise before. The game brought in many new fans to the Persona franchise as a whole, including myself. Compared to its predecessors P5 goes above and beyond. It keeps the tried and true character development, along with the party combat format. But it adds so many more mechanics and stylish quirks that it just grows much higher than its predecessors.
The plot of the game follows a nameable protagonist who’s just moved to Tokyo on probation (after being arrested for defending an assault victim against a corrupt politician), and discovers that he can enter the Metaverse, a dimension made of Tokyo’s collective psyche. From here he makes allies and takes down some of Tokyo’s most corrupt or evil individuals.
As to the technical side of things, it holds up on all sides. The graphics are amazing, trumping not only every other Atlus game, both almost every other JRPG to date. Even on PS3, stylistic choices cause it to look good and run well. The mechanics start simple and get complex, but in a way that the player knows what they’re doing and feels rewarded for doing it. Mechanics such as “1 More!” and “All Out Attack!” add stylistic flow to the combat. The game gets progressively harder over the course of the game, allowing for challenging combat, especially on the hard and merciless difficulties.
Overall, I love this game. It performs amazingly, and does everything with so much style. It’s unique, it’s interesting and it’s deep. If you like JRPGs with interesting core mechanics, and more symbolism than an English Literature class, then this is the game for you!

I'll try to make this short. I've been a MegaTen fan for a while now, and I was super hyped about P5. However, I feel it falls short of its predecessors (P3 and P4) and in many ways:

I'll try to make this short. I've been a MegaTen fan for a while now, and I was super hyped about P5. However, I feel it falls short of its predecessors (P3 and P4) and in many ways:

    - It probably has the worst battle system of the lot. The new elements, Psy and Nuke, make the gameplay even more main-character dependant. All-out attacks are overpowered and make all other tactics pointless, and enemies who are hard to knock down are way tougher than anything else. Ambushes are broken, as enemies often get two turns attacking after one.

    - The supporting cast is the weakest of the three games; Ryuji is dumb and always mad, Ann is the ditzy blond who doesn't want to be sexualized but wears a catsuit, Morgana is a less interesting Teddy, Futaba is annoying, and Akechi is super tropey. Big bad is not interesting and only involved through some Deus Ex Machina garbage.

    - Story is also probably the weakest, the last chapters lazily throw in references to earlier events to make is sound like it was all part of an elaborate plan, even though adding connections between these events has no impact on the story.

    - There's too much dialog, I don't need to be told that unlocking a door is going to help me through this maze every single time, or what to do with this key that I've found in a room with a locked door. P3 and P4 already had quite a bit of dialog, but P5 pushes it way beyond that.

    - The new dungeons are quite good, but they become inacessible once finished. It's also hard to avoid enemies by running past them, and waiting to ambush enemies can make things long and monotonous. The camera gets testy when sneaking around, which may cause you to lose sight of that enemy you were trying to ambush. Mementos sucks.

Not everything about P5 is bad, obviously. The game is super polished, even the menu screens are flashy and stylish. Voice acting is pretty solid, and some of the soundtrack moves towards Nocturne and DDS style metal tunes. There are tons of locations to visit, and the different activities/mini-games are numerous and fun. The input method for battles makes things go faster, which is nice. Saving anywhere (except for dungeons) is pretty nice, too. But these things don't compensate for the poor design choices for the battle system, thin characters, and weak story.

I just finished Persona 5 after ~90 hours. The only thing that came close to this emotion was when I finished the Harry Potter series the night after the last book came out.

This game is simply a masterpiece - if you've ever even remotely enjoyed an RPG (even if it was just a brief stint with Pokemon Blue), you will love this game. Story, art style, music, characters, level design, customization... I could go on about everything that makes this game one of the best of the decade. Of course no game is perfect - in particular, I found some of the forced story sequences/hand-holding to last a little too long (I specifically remember one chunk of story-driven narrative lasting 30+ minutes before I could even find a place to save). But the sheer brilliance of everything else far outshines this, and I would give this game 11/10 if I could.

Persona 5 is without doubt one of the best games I've ever played in my 28 years on this planet, and is one I'm sure will be remembered as the pinnacle of JRPGs (actually, just RPGs in general) for the early 21st century.

Persona 5 is what final fantasy 15 should have been: a character driven, charming game where player agency is felt all troughout the experience.
It is impossible to explain the story of the game without spoilers, it is safe to say that, if you survive the early opening hours that revolve about world-building, by the time you defeat the first major boss you are hooked and invested in the life of the characters.
From a gameplay perspective there are 2 very distinct sections: inside or outside the dungeons.
Dungeons are the typical JRPG thing: you explore, you fight, you deviate from the path to collect rewarding loot.
When a monster (shadow here) is encountered, the battle system is Turn Based, in which the key to success is identifying strength and weaknesses of the opponent.
Despite being turn-based, the combat is fast paced and extremely stylish due to the cool menu design and the catch music.
Outside dungeons your goal is to leave the life of a teenager: making friends, deciding how to spend your time.
Your activities in the "not dungeon" will then increase stats like "intelligence" or "charme".
Icnreasing those stats will allow the player to unlock different interactions or story paths with the other party characters.
On paper, managing the live of a teenager sounds like the most boring thing ever, yet, as the story progresses, the investment is so high, that by the time the credits roll you can't help but wonder at how good the journey was.

Every year my friends and I get together and do an end of the year podcast. We just talk about our top 10 games of the year and I know this game is going to be the game of the year for 2 of them.

So I wanted to try this game and see why they like it so much. I enjoyed my time with the game but its just way too long for my taste. The game takes about 90-100 hours to beat and I prefer games that are around 30-40 hours. At least my RPG’s, I prefer them to be a bit shorter. A big reason for that is, I work about 45 hours a week. So during the work week, I only have 3-4 hours per night to play. That’s assuming I want to play a game every night. So during the work week, I can play for 15-16 hours. On the weekends I have more time but even then I typically don’t play games for than 12-15 hours on the weekends. So I game for 25-30 hours per week. That’s a lot of time for me to play my games but a game that’s 90-100 hours. That’s basically an entire month of me playing one game. I get burnt out before I ever get to end.

So my time with this game, I did enjoy. I played for about 20 hours and the story itself didn’t do a ton for me but I enjoyed the combat. I like Turn-based combat and looking for enemy weaknesses. Even though I did enjoy the combat, after about 20 hours. I started to grow bored of it. Knowing I had 70-80 more hours of the game. I decided to call it and really I accomplished my goal. I just wanted to experience the game and see what the fuss is about.

This game was not for and I went in knowing that but I always try to keep an open mind. If you’re into Japanese Role Playing Games then I highly recommend this one. It’s a well-made game that just too long for me.

The apex of JRPG. For me a 10/10 game is a game that defines a genre, if a friend of mine would like to try a JRPG for the first time Persona 5 would be the game that I would recommend. This was my first experience with Persona series and oh boy....who would guess that this game would be for me the best game of this generation, even surpassing The Witcher 3.

I always enjoyed RPG's but regarding JRPG's there was always something that kept me away from them (the closest experience that I had with these games was with the Kingdom Hearts series). The reason that i decided to try this game was because of the Universal acclaim that this game had received. After 136h I can say this was one of the most wonderful experiences that I had in my 10 years of gaming.

Now why did i fell in love with this game:

    - Interesting characters: I loved each time that i could hang out with them and learn new thing about them. You could even romance some of them, which would unlock new scenes with them during events like Christmas eve, School festival etc, you can even bring them to your room to "study". In the end of the game I feel very attached to each one of them, particularly the members of Phantom thieves.

    - Great and mature Story: Do not be deceived by the "cartoonish" looks of the game, it approaches themes like sexual exploration of students made by a teacher, plagiarism committed by a supposed famous artist, etc. From the beginning to the end the story never loses his focus and is always very nice. Seeing the development of the phantom thieves from the beginning to the end is amazing.

-Amazing combat: Persona 5's turn based combat is one of the best that i have seen, i never got bored fighting the shadows and exploring their weakness was always fun! I was always eager to get in a new fight and use my newly fused persona's.

    - Beautiful art-style: Everything in this game is stylish, from the beautiful city of shibuya, to the cool desing of the palaces, even the menu is very stylish. The design of the Persona's is awesome too.

    - Amazing soundtrack: From the soundtrack used in battles, to the soundtrack used in the city during the night, or during emotional dialogues with your confidants, everything regarding the soundtrack was amazing. I still find me singing the songs in my head.

-World: I never felt boring walking around in shibuya or in the other districts of Tokyo, during the day and night you always have things to do, like taking a bath to increase your charm, watch a movie with your girlfriend, work in a part time job to earn money and increase other social stats, help your confidants with their problems etc. This was always cool because you could see the grown that caused in your character (being more proficient, kinder, charmer, etc) and the development of your relationships with your confidants.Overall living your life as a student during the day and a phantom thief during the night was very entertaining, I never felt bored.

I enjoyed every single hour of my 136h with the game, and honestly I cannot find many negative issues with the game. The graphics were not the best, you can clearly see that this game was built for last-gen consoles (Ps3), but that was not a big issue because the art-style as I said before was amazing. One of the things that I would like was to see the impact of your grades in your classmates opinion, in spite of the fact that you were one of the best in your school your classmates never changer their opinion regarding you, but that for me was a very small issue. I would also like to see the impact of your romance on your teammates of the phantom thieves, they basically never became aware that you are romancing someone (even if you are romancing someone from the team), but I understand why Atlus made that decision (to preserve the harem route). However overall these issues were pretty minimal, and I still believe that this game deserves a 10. Right now I am in a "end-game-hangover", after spending 2 months playing this game I terribly miss the Phantom thieves...that speaks for how good the game is. I am thinking in starting watching the anime, maybe that will relieve me of this feeling.

If you are thinking in playing a JRPG I definitely recommend this one, It will be one hell of adventure!

The game itself is very long. It probably one of, if not the longest linear, story driven, single player game I’ve ever played. The game spends a lot of this time on character development and lets you slowly establish and build your relationship with those around you. It’s not afraid to “waste” time on everyday activities where you just talk and have a good time with your friend, which in the ends makes the characters feel much more real than many other games.

Even though there are some negatives in the game such as the clunky controls, lack of voiced dialogue in some conversations, a low variety of voice lines during combat that is used way too often and some other negatives, overall I found the game to be amazing! The story and characters hooked me to the game and the fact that the journey lasted a very long time makes it even better! The game had almost everything from a good story and characters to a nice art style and music and it also provided a challenging gameplay that somehow manages to throw in a bunch of humor and creepiness at the same time. An amazing game and I look forward to a Persona 6 in the future!

Visually it looks great and the combat is for the most part quite enjoyable but the story, Jesus, what a pile of wank and when coupled with some really crappy mechanics (despair I'm looking at you) and some completely unnecessary design choices (Mmm, I'm a mouse now; oh its a crappy airlock maze) they all combine to suck the fun out of the game. I'm at the last stage and can barely keep myself going it's such a slog.

This game could do with being about half the size and it would be a lot tighter and benefit the whole experience.

The dialog system rewards you for selecting the right command so much that you'll either end up reading a guide to choose correctly (because game time is so valuable) or you'll restart your game over and over again. it makes it feel completely pointless.. as if someone whose spending over 100 hours in a game would want to see a less complete story. I won't be giving Atlus another chance after this.. If i'm going to spend 100 hours in a game again it's going to have to have some dragon shouts or something.

It's a good game. Good writing, deep gameplay, good story, nice art, nice mechanics. But poor design shows. The game was made in 2017 but plays like it's from the early 2000s. It has some of the worst controls I have ever seen in any game. Most of the time you find yourself fighting the controls rather than the enemies. A ton of long load screens. Also, this game is extremely linear.

This game is the best J-rpg of the current (and probably past) generation.

Great narrative with unique and very charismatic characters, good story , very well done voice acting and localisation, top level OST, really fun turn based combat with a lot of options, good graphics, level design, menus.... I could keep going for ever, this game is awesome.

    10/10 A game to remember.

This goes perfectly with it's laid back attitude while playing. The music is top notch and the pace is as fast as you want to play.

Lots of time management that can get stressful so I recommend not worrying about efficiency on your first play through. Usually just when I get bored of daily life- it opens a new story arc and a dungeon that comes with it, which keeps me interested. I like the feeling of beating games, but since this will take a while, I’ll move on but I do suggest RPG enthusiasts to give this a try especially on a sale Expand

The only reason this game doesn't get a 10 from me is that it didn't do *enough* to move away from the Persona 4 formula, and improve on it in *every* way. It is evident that those who played 3 and 4, while still getting really into the game, will realize it isn't 100% over the previous, and it is likely because it is a different game, however, if up to today I still feel like 4 pulled me in stronger than 5- it means this is better as an entry for new players than for old players.

There is still no denying the game is amazing. Story-wise the game doesn't shy from some serious commentary, and gameplay-wise it's simple yet has layers (like its story and themes! Wow, almost like it's an excellently designed game).

In short, buy, play, and try this game out.

Just like it’s earlier instalments, Persona 5 also focuses on the high school life of Japanese teenagers. This brings the players into the culture of the Japanese high school life. The factors that set Persona 5 apart from other JRPGs is its unique gameplay, and game design. Throughout the game, players will never get bored because of the beautiful view of Tokyo players are able to explore. The boss fights are another factor. Each boss has a unique fighting style, and it is up to the players to organize their character roster and defeat the boss. In this paper I will analyze what makes Persona 5 such a great game to play.
Personally, the aesthetics of a game is what I look first. The Persona series in general has always had its high standard of aesthetics. Persona 5 in particular has astounding art design and music components. Through the access of the top-notch processing power of the PlayStation 4 console, the Persona 5 team was able to add in more details to the game compared to the PlayStation 2 Persona 4 game. As the player explores Tokyo, players will realize the small details set in by the producers. For example, when you explore the in-game Tokyo, you will realize that the train station is exactly the same as the one in Tokyo. When you compare each train station, it is as if you are touring Tokyo in real life.
The details Persona 5 provides even brings players into the culture of Japan as well. Throughout the game, players experience many different festivals in Japanese culture. Personally, I really enjoyed the school festival they had in school. It really brings out something different compared to other JRPG games. I believe that people are drawn to this aspect of the game since it brings out the Japanese culture that people are interested in. Playing as a high school student also brings in the high school culture as a Japanese high school student. It makes some events relatable. I believe that this is one of the reasons that the Persona series is so successful. When playing the game, players are easily intrigued by the fine details of the high school life. It is easy for someone to say “Oh! This reminds me of when I was in high school” or “Hey! I am experiencing something similar in the game!” These relatable experience in school makes the game standout compared to all the other JRPGs on the market.
Persona 5 is different from other JRPGs not just because of the relatable experiences, but also the unique narrative gameplay it provides. In the beginning of the game, our protagonist is tied up in jail. This immediately captures the players interests as what is going on in the game. Similar to the movie “Memento”, players are constantly intrigued as to what caused the protagonist to be locked up in jail. After every chapter of the game, players reveal more and more information of why our protagonist is in jail. The transitions between the end of a boss fight and the interrogation scene in jail is extremely well done. The manga feel page flips, the animation, and the music just goes well together to set the tone of an ending to another beginning.
In the end, Persona 5 is definitely a game that I will be revisiting very soon. Personally, I have already played over 100 hours on the game and counting. Persona 5 is a game that is meant to be revisited over and over. Players may have finished the story of the game, but there is always something more to test and challenge your abilities as a player. For example, in the depths of Mementos, there is a hard boss known as the reaper. He is one of the hardest bosses to play against. Players need to have their characters at a high level, and also needs to coordinate between each character to attack and defend at the right timing in order to beat him. There are also other side quests players could complete. All in all, Persona 5 is a great game that I would recommend to anyone who is interested in the JRPG genre.

The idea of playing as a student going to school, completing jobs and living a normal life during the day sounds very anti fun, but is thankfully executed very well and proves to an enjoyable experience. However the real stand out is at night, infiltrating dungeon like palaces that act as massive labyrinths for the player to explore and fight enemies. Combat isn't anything ground breaking, but neither is it bad. It is surprisingly tactical and will require some mental input from the player, especially when fighting the bosses. The best part of this game is the music and graphics. A jazzy and smooth soundtrack compliments the anime and shaded art style, providing a look and feel that will last the test of time. More overrated anime tripe from Atlus. Persona games always tackle a controversial topic just enough to get asspats for it then drop it like a ton of bricks or not actually say anything meaningful. Good for waifu-slobbering sexless manchildren and teenagers, but there's not much else.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is great if you've ever wanted to commit mass atrocities against some inscrutable minority group without feeling any pangs of guilt. The game calls them shadows or some such, I don't know, I had trouble following the story. Also, there's a weird eugenics program for personae. I find the constant weeding out of the weaker, enervating elements from your personae-herrenvolk really tedious.

On a more positive note, the aesthetic choices made by the game designers are spot on. Usually genocidal warfare against vulnerable populations is depicted too drably.

    - Never been a big fan of silent protagonists and it makes the main character feel soul less.

    Polish (0 to 5): 5
(Is it buggy or not? Do parts of the game feel rushed? But remember, bugs can be fixed)
Well do I have to explain? No one likes a buggy/leggy game. It breaks immersion and f%cks your play trough. I still have nightmares from the assassin’s creed “no face” bug…

Extra: Persona 5 the anime coming up. lets see if its good.

And I was wrong. From the frachise-stylish start, with that blazing jazz soundtrack I couldn't and wouldn't stop. Everything I disliked about 4 was fixed. The dungeons are now fun, instead of rng tunnels. You can manage your time more easily. But most importantly the persona fusion system is much, much better.

Combat has seen some tweaking, with the introduction of guns (with limited ammo) and a whole range of new perks to unlock from a fantastic range of people. And thank GOD the double-weak stun mechanic is gone. However, if you as the MC die it's still game over. It's not a big issue, but it still sometimes annoys me when stars align and I get killed before I can do anything about it. 45 hours into the game, and it has happened once, so it's not something you should judge the game upon.

The soundtrack is the best in the series. P3 had a few really great tracks, P4 was kinda 'safe' for a lack of a better word but P5 went all out and struck gold. My weeabooism requires me to play with undub and if you do the same you'll hear many prominent voices, and while they do a great job having Gintoki and Kinpachi in the same room is just begging for "herpes, herpes me!"

If you're looking for an entry game into the series, start with 3 (FES), then 4. You won't be disappointed with either title; they're phenomenal. But if you start with 5 you're kinda spoiled, since it just doesn't get any better than this.

    - Game takes 15h minimum before you get playing more freely. Before then is only dialogues and tutorials. That's quite a commitment when you don't know yet if you're going to like the game.
    - The combat part is definitely the most enjoyable (though not revolutionary). Still it is quite repetitive. Once the enemy's weakness is known, it becomes a pretty boring exercise.
    - Sooooooooo much text! Several times throughout the games, you will be just reading dialogues for 1 to 2h. The dialogues are mostly slow, naive and repetitive so it gets really boring.
In summary, totally understand why some would like this game but I would have preferred 50h of denser gameplay to the proposed 120h lacking intensity.

Perhaps the only RPG it stands in the shadow of is the Witcher 3, though it took both DLCs for my playtime to compare to Persona's (136 and 140 respectively). These are two very different style o RPGs, with the Witcher having an entire book series to rely on for characterization. Additionally the stylized nature of Persona, the way its narrative is presented as almost a 3D graphic novel whose main character you control, and how the game's systems are interconnected with how the story is told, gives Persona 5 a sense of harmony and symmetry - a feeling of all the pieces fitting perfectly together like a puzzle - that is unmatched in any video game today.

My only criticism against the game is that there are some minor pacing issues. There is a lengthy tutorial that took me up to 8 hours to complete before the social simulator part of the game finally became unlocked and I could explore the streets of Tokyo. That said, it took me 140 hours to finish the game, so the tutorial is proportionate to the length of other tutorials for games of a much shorter length. Another problem with the early game is that a fundamental game mechanic goes explained until after you clear the main dungeon, which based on how you managed your time (waited too late to clear the dungeon) can break your save (there are however a multiplicity of save slots that should be used in case you make this error, or any error in leveling your character). The game also dragged for me a little at around the 3rd act, which depending in how you played can result in a lot of free time, which when concluded transitions into the plot's weakest story-line. Once this bump in the road concludes the story really ramps up with great plot twists and character development, and the pressure to max out your stats increases immensely as you have less and less time to do so.

I could go on about the side content and achievements, but you get the picture. Persona 5 is easily one of the greatest and most memorable experiences I have ever had playing a video game.

First off, I've never played a Persona game. I bought it based on rave reviews and had no idea what to expect beyond gameplay videos on Youtube.

These are what make up Persona 5:
    1. Visual novel
    2. Life simulator
    3. Turn based combat
    4. Anime
    5. Simple puzzle based levels which can be infuriating because the save game locations are so far apart in the later stages and you can lose HOURS of progress just cos of a stupid death. And it's not fun to repeat the same stupid puzzles. Bloodborne for example has a similar mechanic where you might lose progress, but it feels fair because I know for sure it's my fault when that happens and it also helps that repeating the process in Bloodborne is fun practice because of the awesome combat.

These are the cons of the game to me:
    1. Super long-winded conversations which may appeal to those who love Japanese anime.
    2. No freedom of gameplay and lots of hand holding. There's an illusion of choice.
    3. Story is predictable and I could see the "twists" and who the main villain is from a mile off.
    4. Some characters are not appealing at all and could've been unnecessary.
    5. At the 88hr mark of my gameplay, I was in the final Palace, having endured 2 annoying levels of backtracking for Letters of Recommendation to face the final boss, and then, I got killed due to a random turn based mechanic and I lost all progress cos there was no save room on that level. Absolutely crazy. Uninstalled it out of frustration and plan to just watch a video of the ending on youtube and skip all the inane gameplay and backtracking.
    6. Turn based combat and capturing of Personas are boring after a while. I LOVED FFVII and the turn based combat there felt more tactical and fun.
    7. For an RPG, I didn't really feel like I was roleplaying. It felt like watching an anime show.
    8. Pacing could be better. At the 50-60hr mark, if they had just wrapped up the story, it would've been great. It feels overstretched by the 80+hr mark, and my patience was already running low when the stupid save system blew up in my face. As an adult gamer, time is very precious. Respect our time. Ironically, for a game which teaches time management for your character, it really takes away a lot of real time in your life unnecessarily. Cutscenes, transition screens, game mechanics could have been streamlined to save more time. They were cool to experience at first but by the 50-80hr mark, trust me, it is soooo annoying.
    9. I played 105hrs of Dragon Age, hundreds of hours on Fallout4/Skyrim/Witcher respectively. For each of them, I didn't want the journey to end, or at least I was enjoying myself near the endgame. But for Persona 5, near the endgame, I kept saying "I really hate this game", and kept wondering how much I had to endure to see it to the end. Turned out I reached my breaking point when King Frost somehow, randomly, missed my spells by 2 of my characters and then consecutively critically hit my main character and he died. 2hrs progress gone. 2hrs of annoying backtracking that I have to repeat. No effing way. UNINSTALLED.
    10. I don't know who decided on this, but the worst combat mechanic is if your main character gets KO-ed, it's GAME OVER. Imagine if Cloud got KOed in FFVII and then everyone else dies, how infuriating is that. Doesn't make sense.
    11. Mementos is the worst. It's like Bloodborne's Chalice Dungeons but absolutely mind numbingly boring.
    12. I have no idea why this game has a New Game+. I CANNOT IMAGINE GOING THROUGH IT ALL OVER AGAIN.
Things I liked about the game:
    1. The song "Life Will Change" which is my current go to track when I go jogging.
    2. Some characters that I got attached to. (4 of them: Tae Takami, Ryuji, Ann, Makoto)
    3. The first few Palaces and their stories were awesome. Then it got too long. They went for quantity instead of quality.
    4. I liked the class, tv quizzes. Pretty interesting fun facts.

TLDR: If you DON'T LIKE visual novels, Japanese anime, turnbased combat, long puzzle-based dungeons, long dialog/expositions then please, stay away from Persona 5.

The gameplay is unique, diverse, and rewarding as it intertwines engaging social interaction with an addicting, downright fun combat style. Many times I would find myself smiling and cheering as I landed the perfect combo with one of my Phantom Thieves.

Throughout the 100+ hours I played, I found myself emotionally invested in the characters and overall story. The characters are unique and flawed, and that's what makes them feel real. It made me feel a sense of joy as I saw them grow and succeed alongside me. The story tackles dark and complicated issues in society and handles them with contagious positivity.

The artistic comic-book style and catchy acid jazz soundtrack beautifully compliments the enjoyable gameplay and engaging storyline.

When the game finally ended and I had a few days to reflect on my experience, I realized I genuinely missed the characters and this universe that I had come to know and love.

    Pros:
    - Phenomenal music. This has got to be at the top of this list. The OST is simply amazing. It's one of those things that I'll remember for a long, long time. Just listen to the "Persona 5 OST - Price" on YouTube and feel the vibe.
    - Great story and memorable characters (mostly). I wouldn't call the writing superb, but when the game is as long as Persona 5 (100+ hours for one playthrough), the story has to be good to keep you entertained. The characters are mostly interesting with some minor exceptions.
    - Entertaining confidance system through which you strenghten the bonds with you fellow teammates and other characters that are important to the story. Every person has a backstory, which makes them even more interesting.
    - Great battle system. It looks a bit like Pokemon and plays a little like Pokemon, and... that's just fine! Gathering new Personas is both fun and challenging, especially if you're looking to get that final trophy for catching them all.
    - Around 100 hours of great content, although...

    Cons:
    - I feel like the game could have been a little shorter. I think 80 hours for one playthrough would have been just right. It would have been enough to explore the game in-depth, and at the same time the ending seems like a little bit of a drag.

    Go get it, guys!

First of all, the game is way too long, it could totally be done with a little more than a half of it, and they would not take any of the actually game of it. For example, do you really need to spend so much time with your confidants? I’m not talking about the good time, but those you go there and you are not gonna get your relationship any deep, so you just spend a day to get a little close to them. Come one, the game is not already long enough? Furthermore, the messages, OMG, I want to kill myself when I get home after talking for hours with the Phantom Thiefs and when you get home THEY REPEAT EVERTHING USING MESSAGES! Come on guys, didn’t we just talk about that? After awhile you just have to skip those messages and I’m pretty sure o missed some good stuff doing that.
What about the ending part? After a million palaces, a million Mementos Floor, then you have one more floor, that looks like a palace, and then one more palace, and then one more floor with 4 mini bosses, to then make able to the final fight, It’s like a 20 hours just in the final act. All that after you thought you had beaten the final boss!!!
Now the mechanics of the game. It was not made for you to max all your confidants in your first play, because it’s impossible to do that unless you either use a guide or you study and think A LOT on how to do that, also, to do that you have to spend only one day in each palace in order to achieve that. The problem is, I don’t think it is fair to rush the palace in one day in order to spend that day with one friend that it is not get any deeper with you in the next time you meet him. It’s just an example of how unbalanced it is.
In conclusion, the game is really good, but damn, they really pissed me off in the end, and I think it took the masterpiece tittle from it.

Text conversations, that happen throughout the game, become a chore as every single character has to have something to say. What was initially a cool way of recapping the plot becomes streams of unnecessary text. The plot, which was building up to a grand finale with a well developed if shadowy antagonist, takes a left turn for the final few hours. The resulting battles are epic, but the story didn't build to any of it. It almost feels like the game ends and then there is DLC added. A big grievance, that I can see no reason for, is that still If the main character gets downed (which in high level areas can happen with a few lucky strikes from an enemy) it's game over, all other characters can be revived but no if you get unlucky you're losing what can be up to an hour of progress in certain areas.

I think Person 4 golden still stands as the series high water mark, the characters were more memorable, and the plot more personable. However Persona 5 is still a great game. If you have the time it is well worth exploring this world.

But even tho its gets a lot of praise from me, and deservingly so, the reason why I gave it a 8/10 in stead of a 10/10 is due to two small things.

The cover system is garbage. Its harder to snap out of cover than winning the lottery twice, plus im not the biggest fan of the cover system as a hold.

The palaces can be fun, but sometimes ending up as repetitive.

Plus the characters, although being very good, just lacks that tiny bit of charm and spark that persona 4 golden had. For example Ryuji is annoying due to his rebellious style, Yusuke is incredibly naive when it comes to knowing what to say and when.

But i will end on a high note. Im pretty dure that if Persona 6 gets realeased I can promise you exiting characters , a great battle system, and a interesting story.

Persona 5 is a great game that was well worth the long development time and wait. It boasts solid game play, a fun and interesting cast of characters, new additions to the series and a story that can feel more than relatable to people.

I was very sceptical about buying this game, now i'm only afraid i may never play such a magnificent game again, it's shocking how good this game is. 1st time playing any Persona game. OMG !!! This game is awesome !!! I'm Speechless about everything so far. Just an amazing game !! Definitely a must have on PS4 !! If you get the chance to buy this game Don't hesitate because You'll be glad you did. Wish there would be more high quality games like this all together it's perfect. This Title deserves an 11 out of 10. The music in this game is the best ever been put into a video game , absolutely fantastic. I'm about 110 hours so far in the game still haven't Finnish the story and to be honest i Don't know if i want to... simple because i love this game , fortunately there's a NG + I've heard. I Don't have enough words to praise this game but i know it's the best game i'll ever play . Expand

For me this should be a must-buy for every Playstation 4 owner, especially with the 38 euro price point currently in the Netherlands! The only negative I have is that it feels a bit stretched at the end, but it doesn't effect the story!

Persona 5 was my first game in the Persona series, so you do not need to have played any prior game to become familiar with the workings of the game. In fact, as a new comer, I may have had an even better experience with the game's story because I was not sure what to expect.

After playing this game for over 150+ hours, you feel really connected to the teammates and they become almost real. The story is fun but has it's dark underlying tones that battle some problems that as a society we face today. From the everyday struggles of being a student to the sinister thoughts of those around you, be prepared to fight for the long haul.

The artwork for Persona 5 is stunning. Amazing detail was added to even the smallest aspect of the game such as the in-game menus. Persona 5 really shows that games don't need to be realistic in artstyle to shine, and it really gives it charm.

As far as the music, you must listen to it. Seriously. Acid Jazz really gets you into the vibes of the game, from the slow paced songs of the average day to the upbeat and amazing battle music (Especially when on the last day of a Palace, just me).

If you enjoy any sort of RPG, you will probably enjoy Persona. As mentioned in the other reviews, it is a JRPG which means the battles are turn-based; perfect for any strategic thinker. Don't let the strategy turn you away though, Persona 5 comes with many aids to help out your battle plans and make it easier for anyone that does not want to finely control the battle experience.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed Persona 5, and I dare even say it has become my overall favorite game and experience and I highly recommend it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Perk of having the Flu - finally able to finish Persona 5. What an experience it was. I had never played a Persona game before, but I fellow RPG-loving friend told me this was the time to try it. I can't believe I'd never played this series before. The game was a blast, combat was a blast, collecting personas was a blast, and I enjoyed the story for the most part. I guess as someone who hasn't played the series before, I wasn't as blown away by Igor being imitated. And I felt as if the ending of the game in regards to the depths of Momentos, the final boss, and the build up to it was a bit underwhelming. But the journey to get there, what a ride.

I really liked every character, save Ryuji outside of his confidant story line. It felt like the writers wanted him to just be the guy that messed everything up. I really wanted to like the character, especially after his personal arc, but I just did not like the way he was written.

My only other complaint, which I also had for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, is the blatant womanizing, and using women as sex symbols. I get this is supposed to be about high schoolers, and I remember some of the stuff I did in high school. But the freaking out every time the girls were in bathing suits, staring, making this painfully obvious that there was some sexual tension or something, is just a big turn off for me in games. Honestly, it bothered me even more than the option to romance grown adults.

Definitely love the series save a few things and I definitely want to go back and play some of the prior installations now that I've got P5 under my belt.

A great stylish game, I can feel all the details of the game are about phantom thieves. The game may not be world driven, like a open world for you to investigate, but a great story driven or theme driven game. All the aspects of the game are polished for the theme. 33% of the end trophy is earned, considering it's a 100 hours game, that's a very impressive number.

My personal favourite feature in this game is how the social links (or confidants) work, in these games, every confidant is worth spending time with due to their exclusive features which are a great deal of help in advancing the story. Now that i mention the story, i began the game feeling somewhat disappointed in Atlus for using the flashback feature in a game, i dislike this feature for personal reasons, however, as i advanced through the story, i became aware of why they chose to use this storytelling technique, it is definitely a unique and intelligent use of the medium and they have done a fantastic job of revolving the story around this. As for my opinion of the game, i feel that it deserves a 10/10. As a massive fan of JRPG's and turn based games, this series, and this game in particular are at a level so high that other JRPG's should be struggling to compete with them, i could go on and on about this game, however, like most Persona games, they should be experienced by the player and so I recommend playing this as soon as possible. Thanks Atlus and don't keep me waiting too long for the next one. Expand

Persona 5 is an absolutely amazing game that convinces with its art style, music and story. It has anything one could ask for such a game and more. The turn-based battle system offers a wide array of opportunities. While it may not be everyone's cup of tea, it is definitely recommended to give it a go.

Persona 5 beats every other turn-based RPG in terms of production values, combat, story, symbolics, character design, music, pace and variety. 2017 is a great year for gaming and Persona 5 confirms this with a load of unmatched swagger.
