The single major issue I have with this game is the pacing of it. It is so incredibly slow, repetitive and linear despite seeming to be the opposite. There are a plethora of activities and methods to develop your character, yet most of the time you are conscripted into story-based activities. Each day has a cycle, yet this can be skipped entirely because of a story event. Finally when you are given some space when there is an upcoming boss, you are further restricted and pressurised by having a limited amount of time to level up, forcing you to choose specific skills, attributes and equipment develop. This really railroads the entire experience.

Related to the pace are the cutscenes. You are constantly pressing X in order to advance each conversation, a monotonous task in itself.

The above really marred the entire game for me. The graphics are fine, and the gameplay is excellent when you actually get to battle!

In the first fifteen minutes of this game, you get in trouble with the police for STOPPING A RAPE. Japan is the worst country in the world! (The game is set in Japan)

The last game made by Atlus, for the 3DS (!), Shin Megami Tensei IV, in this series, let you save anywhere, like every other game made after memory cards stopped being a thing (Xenoblade, TMS#FE, even FF13, which tanked in reviews). I really thought this game would be somewhat similar, but no. I waited forty minutes (because the saves have timestamps) between the start of the first dungeon and the next time I was allowed to save.
The first level is - ride the train to school, and transfer trains. Except... I can't read Japanese. All the signs are blurry. Nothing on the map tells you which train line is which. This is supposed to be fun? Commuting? You just walk around hitting every wrong direction while the game tells you that you are going the wrong way. Everyone who gave this a high score has impossible amounts of time to devote to video games and no other life responsibilities, but never mentions that in their review. You cannot just pick up and play this game for thirty minutes. You must devote your night to it, and if you want to sleep, you're going to lose progress.

The gameplay and visuals are definitely a step up from the last games, being that they were on the ps2 and this game is simply a straight-up upgrade on those elements of the game, with an incredible art style that extends to even the UI, and the combat is faster and more engaging than ever, with much more interesting dungeons, although some drag on a bit too long. However, the story and characters were the main thing that disappointed me. There is a reason people say persona 3 has the best story, 4 has the best characters and 5 has the best gameplay. Without spoilers, a lot of characters are rather one-dimensional and either boring or vaguely annoying and the plot is villain-of-the-week-esque with slight building up for the final act every now and then, and the middle section of the game is especially plodding. I loved the cast of persona 4 as though they were my real friends and the story of 3 is unforgettable. I entered 5 with too high of expectations I suppose, but compared to those games, for me at least, I was disappointed, which is a shame since those were the parts of the past games that made me love them so much, more so than the gameplay itself. Overall, it is still a great game, one of the best jrpgs ever made, but depending on why you love persona this game will either be your favourite or least favourite of 3-5. Expand

I'm a long time jrpg fan, but this is time i play a game from the Shin megami tensei series.
This game is one of the best jrpg i ever played, hell probably on of the best game i ever played in my long years as a gamer, and here is why.

    - The gameplay
For a turn based jrpg, this seems like a very fresh take on the turn based combat system.
There are a ton of little things that make the fights enjoyable: from exploiting enemies weakness for an extra action (and the possibility to pass it to another character), to the possibility to negotiate with the enemies if you corner them (or recruit them, or destroy them with an oll out attack), to giving a big role to ambush or being ambushed from the enemies in the map.
All the enemies are visible on the map, and approaching them in the right way (or avoiding them) is the key to success (or failure).
The fact that you can recruit all the enemies (with the exception of boss enemies), and fuse them to create new summons or useful items is also a very good mechanics.
Half of the game is a social simulator, with you deciding how to spend your limited time: you can spend it activities that will increase your social stats (that you'll need for events and confidants) or in confidants (people which will unlock useful abilities the more you become closer to them).
This part ask for a lot of thinking on how to manage your time the best way, but it is also very enjoyable.

    - The visuals
Cutscenes are done with anime (a very good looking one).
The ingame graphic is not top edge, but is very polished and interesting.
The characters are memorable without looking unrealistic.
The menus are stylish as hell.

    - The music and voice acting
This part of the game really shines. The music is great. There are a lot of song with vocals, and they are pretty great. Just search for the battle theme "last surprise", it's something you will never be tired of listening to.
The japanese voice acting is very good, i don't know about the english one since i played it subbed (not dubbed).

    - The story
The story is good, like very good, from start to finish. I think there are very few games with a story as good as Persona 5, and it is good from start to finish.

    - The longevity
This is a very long game. If you rush it maybe you can finish it in about 95 hours, but i spent 150 hours in it for a single full game run where i did all i could thing of.

Life changing game. In my whole life I just cried with a handful of games, and this was one of them. Not because some character died, or something sad happened on the story, but because it ended. Up to this day, a year later from purchasing the game, I'm still in love with it, and its music. Personal fabourite video game soundtrack.

Persona 5 is a magnificient game for many reasons. First, it has deep RPG mechanics so it will be appreciated by JRPG fans. I played this game for 145 hours ! Persona 5 talks about life, friendships and society. I acknowledge that the story can become emotional (like a movie) but I would say the main audience seems teenagers or 18-25 years old adults. I'm older that that but still really enjoyed this game.

I have some suggestions if you want to really benefit of all this game has to offer. Like the game tells you often, please take your time. This game is not designed to be rushed. Also, don't ignore what Morgana is saying. The cat has interesting advice, both for dungeons and real life. When you start the game, try also to find a general strategy. Which confidents would you like to develop more ? Why ? Which characters will you use in dungeons ? Which skills would create a good synergy in the team ? It can be really interesting to plan before exploring the dungeon. I also recommend to be aware that this game has different endings and in certain points, you will have to make important choices in the dialogue options (I'm a newcomer for the Persona series and I got a bad ending fist which disappointed me. Fortunately, I didn't saved after that so I was able to continue on the same file and just do a different choice. i won't say more here...) And one last thing, accept that you can't see everything in your first playthrough. This game is designed to be played many times.

I certainly recommend this game. I think it's pretty guaranteed that you will find something to enjoy in this game. I look forward to Persona 6 now :)

It's my first persona game, was easy to pick up and follow, has a lengthy tutorial (approx 8 hours) as it walks you through everything in practice and stages, freedom doesn't kick in until after this.
Not entirely a fan of the "normal life" part of the game and there is a metric crap ton of dialogue... otherwise the depth the game, it's story, the characters and world is truly amazing.

Worst of this game is that you can't save whenever you want nor autosave so this is a big issue if you want to play this game and you don't have much free time. The battle system is like old rpg, such as FF or Dragon Quest (turn-based games) and you gain some techniques when you advance in the game. Another thing would be when you move hiding from one place to another and sometimes you can't properly hide and then the enemy see you. It's not a big deal but in makes you move more carefully than you should. About characters, always say yes even when appears the message saying the relationship is not growing deeper. This message is normal so don't avoid it like I did at first. It can get a bit boring after the first hours so I'd only recommend this game to rpgs lovers and people who likes animes. Expand

Art direction and design are peerless; style oozes from every aspect of the game. The story is wonderful and entertaining with no way of getting every facet in one play-through. The game's mechanics work on a linear timeline, so paths have to be taken, but plaything through it again is hardly a chore. I've heard that the translation is lacking by friends abroad, but that doesn't affect me since I don't speak Japanese anyway.

If I had to have one gripe, it would be with the notion that you can't take screenshots or video clips unless you are streaming to YouTube and then download them after the fact. PC ports obviously don't have this issue, but still. I wasn't too pleased with the idea that I couldn't take and share screenshots.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Persona 5 is one of the most overrated games I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing. Everyone is ignoring the severe flaws that are in this game.
"It's the best game ever made!"
    "GOTY!"
    Heck no it ain't.
Now, I don't dislike everything about it. Otherwise, I would've given it a 1 or 0. The gameplay improvements, as well as the music are great. Certain arcs are great. However, everything else? Crap.
The story is the EXACT SAME THING as Persona 3 and 4. Go to a new town, supernatural crap happens, new dimension discovered, get party members, repeat 2 times, then pick up the story a bit. After that, reveal this human traitor (Which is always terribly executed, Ikutsuki was killed too fast, Adachi's motives were "I was bored, so I killed people", and Akechi was rushed, and they slapped a sad backstory on him). Oh no! There's this other guy pulling the strings, so we need to kill them! Kill "Epic god boss" (Which is terribly executed in Persona 4 and 5), and then end the game. In which it's the same thing as Persona 4.
As I said, Palace 1, 4, and 6 are great. However, 2 and 3 are just repeats of Palace 1, just with far worse execution. Palace 5's writing is utterly insulting, and condescending. They keep beating you over the head with obvious plot points that have been repeated. The palace is frustrating, and boring. All around garbage. Palace 7 is rushed, and despite the buildup, is highly underwhelming. Shido is a 1-dimensional cartoon villain with very little development. I've already explained Akechi earlier, so I'll leave that. Yaldabaoth's defeat with "You can do it Phantom Thieves!" is unbelievably contrived. I have never been so disappointed with a game's ending.
Confidants still do nothing for the story at all. Character development is the same thing. Get dragged into a palace for whatever the reason, encounter palace boss, get mad, rant about how they're not society's slave anymore, and then boom, awaken Persona. Proceed to get tossed off to the side right after the arc. Oh, and now their character development has been locked to Social Links, just like in Persona 4, which was a terrible decision. Great to see they've improved character development so much in this game. /s
Dialogue options still don't do a thing. How nice. Still haven't fixed that, I see. My god, can't they make this game more like Fallout, where dialogue options actually DO something? When will they finally address these?
Battle system is the same as Persona 4, just with the ability for One Mores to be passed to teammates, and hold ups. I guess that's some improvement. Oh, and I guess it looks prettier.

    In conclusion?

    Pros
    - Great starter arc
    - Palace 4 and 6 were well-done
    - Gameplay improvements
    - Music

    Cons
    - Repetitive in story, and character development
    - Beats you over the head with plot points we've already heard.
    - Contrivances
    - Traitor
    - Has some of the worst villains I've ever seen in a story
    - Character development locked to confidants
    - Confidants don't affect story
    - Dialogue options do nothing
    - Same thing as Persona 3 and 4

Incredibly disappointed by this game. Persona fanboys will hate on me for this. Go ahead. I don't care about this game anymore. On the bright side, someone's giving it away online for free.

The story is great, it tackles real world issues with a really unique style and in a way that doesnt feel like they're trying to force their opinion on you. As with any JRPG its lengthy whith my total play time coming to about 92 hr. (granted that all isnt story but still, i think i played the game like a normal person would without doing a bunch of side quests or grinding)

The combat is turn base but they introduce a lot of really cool features and systems that give turn based combat a breath of fresh air.

The graphics themsevles may not set any records but good lord is this game stylish. The game oozes style and just down right beatiful art style that to this day is still my all time fav that no game is even close to beating. The attention they put into all the art, characters, bad guys, enimies and just the game itself is staggering.

Down right best sound track in a video game in my opinion that suits every situation in the game with the perfect atmosphere.

The characters or "confidants" are all superb characters in their own right and the game rewards you with relevant perks and skills for spending the time to get to know these great characters.

This barely scratches how much i love and feel about this game. All in all this game is just a must play, even if you dont like JRPG's. (wait for it to go on sale!) i've seen many people who dont like or play JRPG's that tried this game and enjoyed themselves. In total the game is just an outstanding package that delivers on so many levels, so much so that even a year later i still love this game just as much as when i first played it and still carry what i felt and took away from it to this day. At the end of the day i think thats probably the biggest factor in any game, what did it make you feel? What did you take away and does it stick with you?

Here is my issue. MAJOR HAND HOLDING. If you want to have a cat as your mother telling you when you should go to bed, when to go out, when not to do this or that, then this is the game for you. There is absolutely NO freedom in this game. It's extremely linear. In this day and age, this is simply "not okay," especially for an RPG. For example, I finish fighting in a palace, get home, turn around to go out for the evening to up some stats and the CAT tells me it's time for bed??!!

the game are wacky, but most importantly they are excellent JRPGS. Persona 3 tackled the theme of depression and darkness, while Persona 4 went with a more upbeat mood with the central focus being friendship

So what is the theme of P5? Rebellion and corruption, a group of highschooler that decides to reform society by punishing evil people by "stealing their heart". The idea isn't game-changing in itself, but it's everything else that makes this game so wonderful.

The characters (both of the party and side characters) are deeply troubled and the stories they tell are really interesting. it truly feels like you are using your time to know these people better, to help them overcome their hardships.

The game is also stylish as hell, the sub-area of Tokyo and the palaces (dungeon) are jawdropping and the soundtrack composed by Shoji Meguro is incredible as always (seriously, i think it's among the best soundtrack ever, on par with masterpieces like Ocarina of Time), using acid-jazz and industrial influence to create a unique atmosphere.

Lastly, the combat system is very engaging, a turn system that rewards knowledge of your enemy and tactical approach.

Persona 5 is a masterpiece in world building, story telling, combat mechanics and visuals. Just buy it if you haven't (beware of the length, the game is at least 60h)

An immaculate game to say the least. Not really big on JRPG's before I had invested some well spent 150 some odd hours into this title, however, Persona 5 did a great job luring me in. From a well composed soundtrack, to the great story writing, to the very likable characters - Atlus hit it out of the park. This game definitely put Atlas and the Persona franchise on my radar. A definite must play.

I was super disappointed in Persona 5. I loved the series up to this point but P5 just loses many of the things I love about the series. Persona is at its best when it lets you have freedom to do what you want. When you get to decide how to spend your day. These moments are VERY rare in Persona 5. I put 20 hours into the game and my day was usually hijacked by some scripted event. Did someone in you main party sneeze? Yes? There went the entire day! And I realize that there are plenty of times where the game will LET you do what you want, but they always shove an option in your face the moment school is over and make you feel like a jackass if you don't do it. Persona was great when you'd wonder around the school and find a social link/sub story. In P5, it's hitting you over the head with those things. Hell, you don't even have to walk to see people anymore. It's all done through your phone. Just another instance of how they effectively made Persona into a menu/text based game.

The combat has been over-streamlined as well. Used to be you'd find a weakness of an enemy, have to carefully select your persona and use the corresponding skill. Now the game automatically scans for the enemy's weakness, then automatically selects the appropriate skill they are weak to. 99% of battles consist of pushing R1, then X. That's it. I understand wanting to streamline the experience, but the game is basically playing itself at this point.

Persona 5, for me, is a black mark on the series record. The promise is there but the execution treats the player like a braindead invalid that has no idea how to explore an environment. Taking the cumbersome mechanics and features out of a game is usually a good thing. But Person 5 overcorrects to such an insulting degree that it all but plays itself.

On the surface alone, the game's fantastic visual design, fun characters, and satisfying progression make it fantastic. However, there is more to Persona 5 than that. The story alone is amazing, and the way the game-play progresses and pushes that story shows how the added interaction of a game compared to a movie or tv show can really make characters and choices come to life. The game-play loop is simple: You spend days out with friends to level up social links, giving them better abilities whenever you decide to go to the palace. The game actively encourages you to spend time with friends, rewarding you with new skills and upgrades. When you spend time with them, their stories will play out, you learn a bit about them, and help them with a problem in their life. And through helping their problems, they help you back by having some useful abilities. The various ways the game-play of this game is directly tied to its story is truly an achievement for the video-game industry. The only negatives that lead me to take away any points from this masterpiece are: There are times when the graphics in the background get really bad, one short point in the story that I really didn't care for, and the fact that I am still not 100% a fan of turn-based combat and random-chance. Being a long-time JRPG fan (I bought Dragon Warrior 1 on the NES brand new, at full price), and having fond memories of Digital Devil Saga, I thought it was natural to give Persona 5 a try, my first Persona game.

I outgrew my addiction to grinding to increase levels and stats around 15 years ago, and have instead continued to play JRPGs because of their unique and meaningful storytelling (Nier), and strategic based combat systems (Final Fantasy X). Persona 5 unfortunately has neither.

What Persona 5 does have is and incredibly unique and flashy aesthetic and lots of grinding (on most difficulty levels), but when you look deeper, everything falls apart and it shows you how simple and basic the game really is.

The combat, while turn-based, is one of the least strategic JRPG combat systems I've experienced. It's complexity is limited to the large amount of status ailments and damage types. Because there's so many, it makes them nearly impossible to plan for (unless you're following a guide), so most strategy goes out the window. And because of the massive cost of most spells, you'll quickly find that it's much more efficient to use physical attacks, while saving your magic for healing. This leads to a very grindy and not-fun combat system (unless you like grinding). Thankfully, you can lower the difficulty level, to reduce the grind, but it doesn't make the combat any more fun.

More than half of your time in Persona 5 will likely be spent grinding confidant levels. These are basically your friends and leveling them up through conversations and dates gives you various optional perks. Most of the confidant stories are relatively interesting, but not very meaningful or profound. Their stories are average at best, and is where my only enjoyment of the game came from. They all revolve around the same basic theme as the main story, which is:

Adults are evil. That's the main theme of the game and it sticks to it religiously. You play as just and righteous teenagers and every adult you meet, interact with, or hear about wants to use teens or children for their own nefarious gain. I thought briefly that if you change the word "adult" in the game to "white people" or "black people," then it would point out just how stupid this theme is. And they get around this stupidity by injecting even more stupidity: By making the adults dumber than the teens. As an intelligent adult, I couldn't relate to anyone in the game for the main story or subquests. Every decision made by the teens was questionable at best and all of the decisions made by the adults were simply unbelievable.

Every main quest and side quest consists of some child being abused or used by an adult. And instead of calling someone who might be able to help or convincing the abusers' of their wrongdoings in a meaningful way, you go into the metaverse and magically change abusers' minds by beating them up. It's like the game is teaching children to escape into their own imaginary worlds when things get tough rather than actually solve problems.

The world building is nonexistent, probably because the game takes place in modern-day Tokyo. The issue with that is that the adults in power in the game don't act like they do in modern-day Tokyo, so most plot points fall apart under small amounts of scrutiny. The adults in this game simply wouldn't be able to exist in real life, and as a result, are unbelievable.

At about 75 hours into the game, I was having a hard time dealing with the above and the misplaced/unexplained symbolism (tarot cards, poetry, chains/jail). And then the big twist occurred. And boy, that took the story from being unbelievable to being outright crap. The twist created several plot holes that the game spent the next hour trying to plug up through character explanations.

That single point made me completely disinterested in continuing my confident relationships, and without those, I had no need to complete the game. I got to the last dungeon, saw that this was going to take another 10-20 hours to get through, and quit.

Persona's not for me. But if you're a defiant teen who things adults are evil, you love grinding through simple turn-based combat systems, or you rarely notice plot holes or unbelievable characters in stories, then you might just like it.

In Persona 5, the protagonist and his friends are high school students who become The Phantom Thieves of Hearts, noble burglars if you will. In continuity with this "noble burglars" theme, there is even reference to Arsène Lupin, the fictional gentleman thief and master of disguise created in 1905 by French writer Maurice Leblanc (the game's protagonist also lives in the attic of a coffee shop named after Leblanc).

As a japanese teenager you have to socialise with others and upgrade your social stats which affect your party. As The Phantom Thieves Of Hearts you have to save the world by entering another reality and fighting monsters. Unlike other JRPGs though, you can't play this game leisurely, because your actions cause in-game time to pass, and you often have a set amount of in-game days to complete dungeons, or it's game over. Thankfully though the time limits are generous.

Combat plays out in turn-based battles. Outside main story missions, there is a randomly generated series of dungeons, to farm XP and money, or even complete side quests. The boss fights have mini puzzles to figure out, or these can be hinted at by the game.

The combination of a social simulator and a dungeon crawler makes for a super addictive formula. Seriously, Persona 5 is so immersive that I couldn't stop playing till late at night.

The game is simply beautiful and stylish. The OST is great, there are even a few good songs you can listen to. You can choose from the japanese and english voice over.

My only complaint is that, no matter how great a game Persona 5 is, its structure hasn't changed since Persona 4. Also, I have grown tired of the "teenagers save the world while the stupid adults can do nothing" theme. Can we have a Persona game starring 20-years-old university students instead of high school teenagers? In my opinion it would fit better with the overall theme of the series.

Overall, Persona 5 is easily the best JRPG in this generation.

Persona 5 is a new standard for JRPG's. Everything from the characters, the style, the story is absolutely incredible. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is too long. Simple as that, and there are too many side characters that are completely irrelevant to everything and You don't even see some of them in the end cutscenes.
The choices You make doesn't matter at all too. Even getting the girls just doesn't count at the end.

Skill system is very good for modern jrpg, i really liked it, BUT there are way too many skilss and options You don't need to use, or use 4 times in whole game(skill card system for example).
Skills liek confusions etc are totall waste of time too cause U cant use them against bosses, and normal monsters You beat easy anyway.

There are at least 2 castles too much. I think harru character is unnecessary, You get her too late into a game too care for her, and nobody will care about some rich kid. Sad but true.
The fat mafia kid castle is waste of time, it provides nothing for the plot.
Cosmic rocket castle is so tedious and boring to do.

Music is great, artwork is great.

Graphs: 11 Simple and clean, very animelike (well suited for the game). The themes and designs in red, white and black of dialogs and texts are amazing. Awesome

I usually don't do reviews, but I found this to be the most fun rpg since Chrono Trigger. It's definitely the best of the Persona series, great soundtrack, superlative gameplay, amazing story. I'm playing through it again the third time and it consistently entertains when I play through it. If you're a fan of rpgs at all, this is one of the essentials.

Persona 5 is a video game that is much more flawed than people make it out to be. Although there are some things that it does well, there are other aspects where it falls flat on its face.

Persona 5 is a video game that is much more flawed than people make it out to be. Although there are some things that it does well, there are other aspects where it falls flat on its face.

To start, I will address what it does well. The OST of this game is one of the best in any video game ever made. I constantly find myself listening to the OST in my daily life. The overall aesthetic and art direction of the game are also well done, and the game is a joy to look at with its stylized UI and beautiful animations.

Unfortunately, that is where my praise ends.

What I look for most in a video game is great gameplay, and Persona 5 fails to deliver. Persona 5 features a turn based combat system, and unfortunately this system is mediocre at best. The combat never develops at all throughout the 80+ hour game, with combat staying the same against the first enemies you fight when compared to the last, so this means combat gets extremely repetitive. This would not be a problem if the combat was exciting, but unfortunately it is not. The combat is extremely formulaic, with everything coming down to finding what element an enemy is weak to and exploiting it, over and over again. Boss fights are not any better. Beside's the last few bosses, none of them are a test of the players skill, but rather ask the player to do specific things to take down the bosses. This leaves no room for creativity, and unfortunately makes boss fights bland and forgettable.

As for the dungeons, or palaces as they are called, they are far too linear. There is no room for free exploration in these dungeons, and the game forces you to progress in them with a calendar based timer. This would be acceptable if the palaces were engaging, but they are not. Many of them revolve around puzzles that so many other games have done already. One thing these palaces do right are that they cleverly incorporate elements that help progress the story. There is one palace called Mementos, which is a randomly generated palace-like area, which I love to explore. The only problem is that if I progress the story, I have less time to do Mementos, which I will get into later.

And with that, lets get into the story. The story concept is fine, with it being about teenagers fighting adult injustice, and overall it was enjoyable to see how the story progresses, despite some predictable plot twists and a cliche ending. However, this story could have been so much more if the characters developed even in the slightest. Characters that help you along the way do not develop at all once they are introduced. There is one exception, with a character that helps you a lot after they join you, and the rest of the cast should have been developed this way. Once the main (silent, might I add) character meets a character that will help them in their journey, the new ally does not change. The most that happens is that they have a problem in their life that the main character helps fix in the form of confidants, yet this problem does not develop these characters, as they are just the same as when they started. Confidants could have been a great way to develop characters outside of the story, and it was such a missed opportunity to do so. It also does not help that the supporting characters dilute to nothing more than walking cliches, with one character being a vulgar meathead the whole story while another is the smart calculated one who people listen to. At the very least, these characters have personality that makes them somewhat interesting. As for antagonists, they are pretty stereotypical and overdramatic, but I think that gives them charm. But overall, the story and characters are pretty weak.
At least the conclusion is very satisfying.

One glaring flaw in this game that makes me from feeling neutral to dissatisfied is the way the game handles story progression. Because the game is based off of a calendar, I felt the need to finish palaces as soon as possible. This means that once the palace is finished, I would have to wait hours before I could progress the story further. If I had paced myself better, maybe this would not have been a problem, but this would mean I could not buy better equipment, progress the confidants of the team to make them stronger, or explore Mementos. Time management is an aspect of real life that does not translate well into video games, nor should it ever be incorporated to video games.

All in all, Persona 5 is a game with great music and aesthetic, but has a mediocre story, bland and repetitive combat, lame characters, annoying in-game mechanics and an abundance of missed opportunities. I would recommend getting this game only at a high discount. If you cannot do that, just watch the cutscenes and story on YouTube and listen to the music.

Its been a while since I've enjoyed a turn based game and ATLUS does well by putting there twist on it with things like charming menu designs, witty dialogue and a catchy song all during battle.

P5 has some very minor faults though, I did feel the dialogue and conversations were too long and even repetitive at times throughout the whole game and the stealth and cover system is quite clunky at times.

    The Good:
+ Excellent story and memorable characters, love it +2
+ Cool anime art style and visuals +1
+ Turn based awesomeness with its own unique twists to it +1
+ Memorable soundtrack that is download worthy +1.5

    The Bad:
    - Lengthy conversations and repetitive dialogue -0.5

    The Ugly:
    - Clunky cover system which can get annoying -0.5

    Persona 5 is magic, 9.5/10:

The characters and the relationship system is complicated and offers a LOT of possibilities and will demand many hours of your time, but it was fun seeing how the characters interact, going through day to day life and influencing your characters life and those around him. The first couple of dungeons were engaging, but mid-game it started to get repetitive and gruelling. The underground subway side dungeon was extremely frustrating, I absolutely dreaded going through it, because save points are far and few in between. Punishment for dying or not being able to sit there for hours on end playing is being pushed back down 5-10 floors and start the trek up all over again...The music is my favourite part in this game. It is absolutely addicting, upbeat and vibrant, I was totally jamming to it while playing. The story is not bad, but not memorable. It definitely doesn't live up to the previous Personas. If you are going to get this game, I would say put aside a lot of time and patience for it. Expand

Persona 5 is a miracle video game, it builds on strong foundations that make each aspect superior to most entertainment nowadays and is packed with things to do

YOUR STORY: The balancing between your student life and 'Phantom Thievery' is masterful, each day (which are short) gives you the choice of living it however you want: by hanging out with your friends, working, studying or whatever you could imagine as a young student in Tokyo. And the feeling of having to make a name for yourself and your social life in school is great and when you level up a stat, it feels as satisfying as the combat does. The story is excellent and again, is built in such strong foundations that it never fails to impress.

THE COMBAT ROCKS: Turn-based combat is not a sweet spot for me, only a few games and RPGs have actually made this type of fighting feel fun and engaging. Persona 5 is one of these rare games with it's amazingly styled turn based combat which feels fast paced and again, satisfying.

THE STYLE AND MUSIC: Holy. **** The music in this game is out of this world, not even a film should have this great a score. It's jazzy feel makes gameplay more smooth and the intro sometimes just makes me want to dance. The highschool notebook, 'in your face' graphic style is nailed with menus that are cleverly styled and designed for player accessibility.

CONCLUSION: Persona 5 packs an outstanding amount of content which I applaud. This may be my favorite RPG of all time and I certainly won't forget the incredible soundtrack, the relatable characters, the fun combat, and the hundred hours I spent in this awesome world. This is not only an essential game, but an essential experience.

The game is an absolutely fantastic RPG with fun and rewarding battle mechanics that go in-depth, but are still very accessible for beginners. The gameplay is mirrored in a way, with half the game taking place in modern Tokyo, where you play as a high school student with a bad reputation, trying to live an honest student's life. However, the other half of the gameplay you spend navigating creatively crafted dungeons called "palaces", and trying to change the hearts of the "evil adults" with corrupt desires. While the gameplay itself could alone almost earn this game a 10/10, what really makes it special is the story and the characters. The story may feel a bit "video game-ish", with each new character going through a similar ordeal which does get slightly repetitive. "New character is in some form exploited by an evil adult. Your group decides to help. The new character has an awakening and joins your group." The story does however depart from this as all the characters have joined you and that's when it really starts picking up speed. The characters are, however, undoubtedly the best part of the game in my eyes. Their interactions amongst themselves are just as entertaining as spending time with them one on one. They are all very distinct and all have their own great sense of humor and as the credits roll, I can't wait to start a new game+ and meet them all over again. This is one of the best RPGs of all time.

Persona 5 beats every other turn-based RPG in terms of production values, combat, story, symbolics, character design, music, pace and variety. 2017 is a great year for gaming and Persona 5 confirms this with a load of unmatched swagger.
