Persona 5 is a colossal game, blending dungeon adventures with a life simulator to provide a perfectly paced experience that I expect to return to every couple of years. The art style and music add to create a stylish experience with the heart felt plot and fantastic voice acting giving you a great incentive to see it through to the end.

I'm sorry. I know giving a game a full 10 is a cheesy thing to do. None of the games is perfect.
Yet this one title had an amazing art style that wouldn't really be improved on with a higher spec hardware, a music to match, good story and a very relatable characters. When I have finished the game for the first time I felt like I was leaving a group of my best friends to never see them

First, you almost never have the freedom and time to do what you want, because there is always something to do and you spend a whole day, or sometimes you do something silly and end the day.
But what makes me most angry is the fact that the game always trolls the player, when you have few resources and want to leave a dungeon, the game forces you to walk through everything that has happened again to find either an exit or a Safe Room '', but resurrecting all the enemies that you exhaustedly defeated, so if you are unlucky enough to fall into a battle in which a CURSE enemy decides to focus on the Joker, you lose the entire battle even though you have 3 Party alive, then you lose at least 1 hour with absolutely nothing, go back to the beginning of the last save you made.
I wanted to play for fun, not to get bored and waste time like that, you feel your time being wasted in seconds, it makes me sick.
The game is not bad, but it is very frustrating and random, especially when enemies teleport in front of you right after finishing a battle against another.
I hate walking around on several maps one by one just to get out of the dungeon, and if you die, you lose your hours at the cost of NOTHING!

The mix of being a student and exploring dungeons helping your friends or someone "at the same time" is very interesting and the way the time passes in this game is fantastic. The schedule for this game is one of the best mechanics ever made in a video game. You need to plan and use your time in the best possible way, after all you want to interact with your friends, you have to go to school, you want to explore this world and discover the possible things to interact, you need to study for the tests that are coming come, you want to improve your status, you want to get a girlfriend, besides you can do side quests and explore "Mementos" (the optional 'dungeon' of the game) but the urgency of you needing to optimize your time comes from you always having the pressure of an 'x' date to finish the dungeon you are in, advancing the story or something bad will happen to the characters (usually).

The characters are a highlight of this game. They are very lively, friendly, have their past, their history, their tastes, their hobbies and etc. All the characters that have Social Links are like that, there are 21 in total and within the game they are called confidants. The developers were smart and still encourage you to interact with them giving advantages in the gameplay, free items, improvements to the characters in your party, better items for sale and etc. Social links are another phenomenal mechanism in this game, it develops the characters and their relationship with each one of them. This game has some very strong social criticisms.

The story is not very complex for the most part, but it is engaging and has its high points and they are great. The main reason she is involved is because she involves the characters you know and gives urgency to you to act, not to act until the deadline is game over. You want to continue in the story to get to know the characters better and you end up wanting to help them. All the dialogues in history (ARE MANY) have dubbing and it is great.

The game easily takes 80+ hours to clear and if you get lost a little in this world get ready for 100 hours (without exaggeration).

The gameplay of this game is a dungeon crawler that switches to the classic combat of a jrpg taken to the extreme with some very interesting mechanics to explore, such as mergers between personas. The personas are the main reason for the huge variety in combat, there are 192 different personas, each one is unique and well done. The difficulty is well-balanced and if you just crash until the boss is screwed (I did that once kk). But if you don't like turn combat it's hard to like this game, considering its size.

The graphics of this game are currently a bit outdated (I played in 2019 and I thought it was good), but you get used to it quickly and you have to consider that it is a game made for the Playstation 3. If you are bothered by it, play Persona 5 Royal, a improved version of P5 (at the time I played it didn't exist). The dungeons are very well made and each one is unique with something new in each one. But what stands out is game art, I have never seen anything so good in video games.

This game has one of my favorite soundtracks. They are unique in many ways, enjoyable to hear and striking. They also match the game and location you are at.

A defect was that having relationships with the characters does not affect any dialogue during the story. There should be more events to interact with the characters and they could be more complex, interesting and slightly affect the relationship between you and the character. Another point worth mentioning is that if you don't like to read or understand English, this game is not for you.

I don't get what all the hype about this game is about? Approximately 3 hours into it, and I am finding it very hard to continue investing time into this game. Persona 5 has reached a level with me, where it has become almost unbearable and annoying. If I really had to try and find something positive to say about Persona 5, is that I picked it up for about $15 from the PS4 store.

Not only is it an improvement over P5 by leaps and bounds, this game-play is so solid I expect copy-cats for years to come.

    Music/Sound: 2
The music is solid with a large library and strong voice acting (in both English and Japanese!)

    Graphics & Visuals: 2
The graphics are brought into the modern age from P4's outdated models into more contemporary ones. The menus are flashy and fun and there are great, original battle effects.

    Story/World-building: 1
Good, but not as good as some claim. The writing quality wains and the story continues, being very strong for the first few dungeons while becoming nearly nonsense by the last few with plot-points dropped and plot-holes abundant.

    Characters: 2
This is one of the games strong-points. Each character has a storyline about being oppressed by the world around them or the expectations society places on them making for rich, developed characters that are interesting. While some of the confidant routes are unfocused, the characters themselves are some of the best in the series.

The best turn-based RPG on ps4 and probably of the entire generation. The artistic section is from another planet, the story hooks you and has an unforgettable soundtrack. To put a downside and the only reason not to put a 10/10, the game is not translated into other languages, which does not matter to me, but it is still an inexcusable failure for a game today. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game oozes passion and style. Do the actual models and graphics look the best? No, but that's not why people take notice of this game. It's the flair everything is done with. Even the menus feel like they have more love than some AAA games out there (I'm looking at you, EA). The story is very well executed, with the exception of two parts. The lead up to Okumura's palace is forced and uneven. Why do Morgana and Ryuji have a rivalry that came out of Morgana being a complete jerk to Ryuji for no reason? Morgana feeling useless makes sense with the introduction of Futaba, but that combined with Morgana leaving due to the fight with Ryuji feels like it shouldn't be there. The second part where it's revealed that Akechi is the traitor isn't necessarily a bad plot point, but the game seemed to simultaneously be trying to make the twist surprising and unexpected, yet also made it ridiculously obvious. The first 5 hours or so of the game are kinda slow, but they aren't painful, per se. Once you start infiltrating the palaces for real, the game gets amazing. The palaces are fun to explore, with much more verticality and depth than the dungeons of Persona 3 and 4. The puzzles are fun to solve, but aren't very hard unless you never pay attention to what your party members say. The combat is thoughtful, stylish, and has a musical rhythm that will leave you having a slight groove with you the entire time you play. The weakness and one more systems are perfect to keep the action flowing, without slowing to a grinding halt. Battles rarely ever stretch out into tedium, due to once you knock down every enemy, you have 4 options. one is an All out Attack, which does a ton of damage and has a very high chance of ending the fight. You can either ask for an item or money, or you can start a negotiation. Every magic skill in the game comes courtesy of the Persona, a manifestation of your inner self. All of your party members only have one, but you can wield multiple, most of them come from negotiating with enemies, trying to convince them to join your pack of personas. The negotiations are a little easier if you pay attention to their mood listed in the top left of the screen when you knock them all down (also known as a Hold Up), but some of the dialogue options make no sense. These shadows have weird tastes, and the answer isn't always obvious, but it is doable.
Persona is more than dungeon crawling, though. Half of the game is spent as a normal teenager, hanging out with friends, or doing activities to increase one of your five social stats. Your friends are known as confidants, with them having ten levels to unlock, each bringing new perks that will help you in battle. The life simulator part of Persona is just as addictive as dungeon crawling. Sometimes I would find myself attempting to complete the palace in one go, just so I would have more time to hang out with friends or increase social stats.
This game is the kind that will absorb you for hours on end. It's systems are so well put together, The music an absolute masterclass in game soundtracks (I've listened to the OST for countless hours), and the style of everything done makes everyday life feel like an amazing adventure. This is a must play for any RPG fan, and will kind of become a phase in your life, making it hard to think about anything else.

The battle system is amazing, making the turn-based gameplay as smooth and fast as possible. After playing this game, older persona games and other similar games feel clunky by comparison. The story is good, but I take a point off for it because it definitely has problems like “smart” characters who do some of the dumbest things in the series, plot holes, and characters and arcs that don’t really add anything to the story but we need to be realistic, with a game with this much story of course some of it won’t land and most of the story is totally enjoyable.

Seriously, if you like the genre and they system to play it on this is a must play.

Buy, rent, watch an LP, or skip? Buy it 100%!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Persona 5 is an amazing game, filled to the brim with unique characters and locations that I'll remember for the rest of my life. The game has unique style, that I'm sure has been done before, but never this well. Almost every single character is enjoyable to be around, each with a unique personality that are easily distinguishable, at least to me. After its 100+ hour story concluded, I wanted more of these characters and was extremely upset to see them go, but it looks like Atlus is continuing with this cast, as Persona 5 Royal and Persona 5 Scramble bring back these iconic characters. The palace structures were very unique, each with its own feel and style, like a spaceship and a castle. The only thing stopping me for giving this game a perfect score is some small things. Some of the confidants were disappointing, and didn't feel like they mattered to the story. Some of the palaces were very lacking as well, especially 2 certain ones I'm sure you've heard plenty about. Parts of the story are kinda bad and bit of a drag to. get through. But it's in no way a bad game, it's actually my favorite game of all time. And did I mention the soundtrack? This game has one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard and would put many other soundtracks to shame. This game single-handily made me a fan of Atlus and JRPGs and made me want to explore different genres of video games. It also help change me as a person, it made me feel confident, feel better about myself, and gave me the guts to do things I would never do if I didn't buy this game. Even though I didn't get through every aspect of this game, i say pick this game up, or get Persona 5 Royal if you can afford it. Just know that this game made me change in the best way possible, and who knows, maybe it'll make you make a change as well. Expand

And as for blending a visual novel with an RPG it does the best of balancing the story and gameplay. But the story,

But the story, the game at times feels like it was written by 2 people - one who wanted to tell a edgy but big young adult story about rebellion and the abuse of power and the other wanted to make this a typical rom-com harem anime. It also has some serious problems like who arcs that could have been removed (does anything important happen in the bank section other than getting a new teammate?) and Morgana's palace long temper tantrum near the end.

Overall I think it is the best persona game so far, but not the best game ever.

EDIT: Changed my score from a 8 to 9 now that I'm partway through Royal. Will do a review of that later.

I love Atlus but they can be hit or miss. This game is a hit for sure, with unmatched style, great music, and super fun gameplay. The only weakness is the story. Don't get me wrong, it's still better than 95% of games out there, but it doesn't compare to the story from Persona 4. In Persona 4 the dungeons were all personifications of the character's inner struggles, and the bosses were "shadow" versions of the characters that that didn't just have to defeat, but accept. This game greatly simplifies that formula by having all the bad guys be abusive authority figures and the protagonists being "rebels." There is little actual character growth, which is disappointing. Ryuji has something going on with his dad that is mentioned once. Most style than substance on this one, but still a great game.

The last game also put gender issues front-and-center, whereas this one has the main female character grow by becoming skinnier to be a better model. I'm not joking, that is her character arc. It also has the player pressure her to pose nude for her stalker at his house, and gives you the option of telling her she should have let her teacher rape her. Oh yeah, and it has you blackmail your teacher after finding out that she works as a prostitute to support the family of a dead student. The game doesn't explicitly say that she has sex with you. It's implied. I still loved the game but there are some ugly flies in the ointment that I can't ignore. In some ways the characters are so similar to those from Persona 4 I literally call them by the wrong name. In other ways, it feels like it was written by a different person morally and thematically.

Overall an amazing game that everyone should play, but not as good as Persona 4 if you value story and character/

Persona 5 is like different than other persona but it's still persona. Maybe because its unique art and for the first time your character is not chibi anymore. This game has so many innovation compared to its predecessor. For example you can tame your shadow enemy and make them joins your persona collection by negotiate with them. Battle mechanism still same with ordinary JRPG except you can use gun to attack your enemy beside persona and hit attack. Battle song is more variate and great.

I must criticize Persona 5 story. In the last part of this game you will face god, which I feel like be forced to have plot twist. Maybe atlust think no plot twist, then no persona. But with same formula with P4, I got bored easily by it. Bond with friend in Persona 5 is less deeper than Persona 4 Golden. When I finished my P4G, I felt lonely and sad because it was like I had digital friend and I lost it because this game end, which is I didn't feel it when finished my Persona 5.

So 9/10 is fair from my thinking. And don't forget, Hifumi Togo is best girl haha. So sad Atlus decided to not put she in Phantom Thieves.

I found myself wanting to spend the most time with Ryuji and building up the confidant ranking between me and him. Speaking of spending time in this game, there is so much freaking stuff to do within the real world when not at school or inside a palace. You do have to carefully decide how you will be spending your time during the day though since there is only so much time in a day, and later on depending on confidant rankings you can unlock ways to have more time in a day to do certain things, and when your not in the real world you'll be invading the palaces in the game, which are a persons distorted heart and desires and they are absolutely wonderful and very creative, from invading a castle, to a bank, a Egyptian tomb and more. You can also spend your time in a world called mementos which is the everyone in the city of Shibuya's distorted hearts and desires which is comprised of randomly generated levels that are a very good way to grind to level up your party members. I’ll start with the positives. 1, the gameplay is great, the turn based combat system in this game feels great to use and the menus are nice and fast. 2, the UI as everyone already knows is over the top, flashy, and pretty sick to look at. And that’s all for the positive, onto the negative. 1, the story is very mediocre and peaks at the first dungeon only to go down from there, this review is spoiler free so I won’t go in depth, but I’ll say there’s one character that’s handled terribly and is the worst part of the story, with many other meh things too. 2, the character development, while I think the characters themselves range from terrible to great, they’re development sucks. For example, they learn a big lesson in the first dungeon only to completely abandon what they learned in the second dungeon and use it as comedy. 3, the dungeons, they range from terrible to good, with most of them being very meh, and as everyone knows the 5th dungeon is terrible. 4, the difficulty, this game is a complete cakewalk, as someone who’s played many other RPG’s this game offers little to no challenge throughout almost the whole game, the hardest dungeon in my opinion is the first one and only because you don’t have a good grip on the gameplay yet. 5, the calendar system that the game uses where you play through every single individual day can get very boring, especially during summer it feels like there’s nothing to do, leading right into the next and final point. 6, social links (confidants), for the most part tend to be pretty boring with some standouts like Iwai being great. My final say on this game is: you’ll probably think it’s amazing, even a 9/10 or a 10/10 on your first playthrough like I did, but after replaying the game the magic of my first playthrough started to fade away and I saw how mediocre the game really was under that thick polish of slick UI and fun comabt. Character portrais are fun to look at and the UI is stylish. The voice acting is generally wonderful even if the script isn't as great, the most well acted character is definitely Ryuji, certain lines were so great that I found myself replaying them in the audio log. The game has some very useful quality of life features such as an a dialogue log you can access in case you missed something or to just replay lines if you want to, and you can fast forward dialogue. Persona 5 is the greatest game I’ve played, the story is great and there’s so many likeable and even ‘lovable’ characters which you can hang out with which gives you lots of benefits that will help you along the way.

The music is amazing, there’s not a single bad song...except mementos. The world looks lovely too with a nice amount of locations which some are based on real life locations

Also the battle UI is the smoothest, coolest and most satisfying you’ll ever see.

It surprises me how similar the political woes of the EU, Japan, and USA are. Likely the rest of the developed world as well, but as an uninformed American these are the ones I know best. But without diving any further into politics, you may be surprised to see how strikingly similar the issues brought up by Persona 5 are to modern issues.
Assuming you can get over the games insistence that it is just "old people" who are making the world worse.

The best the playstation has to offer and honestly one of the greatest games of all time. The gameplay is immersive and has may things to do. The ui and menus are close to perfection and the music is absolutely fantastic. If you are on the fence i would say wait for p5r but i definitely recommend you play this game in any way you can.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Take the only good element of Pokémon, combine it with the emotional rollercoaster of Final Fantasy. Use the charming elements of Cowboy Bebop. It was so easy to make this into a game of only chasing bad guys, but it's story shows a great improvement when we mest Futaba. Having someone with depression forming a castle that turned from needing to hostile att certain points since vet emotions were all over the place. This game offers 100 hours on the story. I played with "Hard" and it made most encounters dangerous since the checkpoint can be far away. Going to do the NG+ in Japanese, but I can say the voice acting was really good.. Expand

This game is just incredible from start to finish. The gameplay mechanics have taken the turn based JRPG to another level. The music is the best i have ever heard in any game. The graphics, artwork and anime scenes are incredibly done. For me this is the greatest game i have ever played and I cannot wait to jump back into it come March 2020 for Persona 5 Royal.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A Solid game but as a SMT game? Didn't really live up to my expectations.

The soundtrack is good but the DLC like Raidou, Persona 2, Catherine and SMT 4 make it a million times better.
Story could be better, bad ending, a character written in for no reason and a obvious villian.
The dungeon crawling is amazing for first time but outside of Mementos if you know the pattern is too easy and the same every single time.
Characters are good but a step down from 2 and 3 but a huge step up from 4. Nothing terrible and annoying like Chie, Teddie and Nanako. Also no Mr. Perfect thank god.
The school life is absolutely boring but when you get to the dungeons it's amazing.
The Social Links in this game are good but suck because they're FORCED unlike before especially with unlocking Ultimates. Who forces something optional to unlock the best? Some social links literally mean nothing. "I'm gonna change for better!" Then 5 minutes later go back to being the same idiot they ever were. Others actually had good impact.
Difficulty is nothing. Even on Hard. All it just is, is you take more damage and gain less EXP. That's it.

I wouldn't replay this again and it's only good for one playthrough. Maybe Royal might change that. Overall it's a solid game but more for casual players.

Hoping this funded SMT V enough and will bring more Mainline and Spin-Off games. The best points being Nocturne, Raidou Kuzunoha, Soul Hackers, Persona 2 EP, SMT 4:A, etc.

I've never felt so attached to a cast of video game characters in my life, and it's astonishing how many times I popped off from hype or was on the verge of tears from sad moments that I will not mention for the sake of spoilers. Seriously, if you haven't played this game yet, BUY IT! (or wait for Persona 5 Royal, which is basically Persona 5 but it adds more, including the new best girl Kasumi, whichever works for you) Expand

Persona 5 is an absolutely amazing game that convinces with its art style, music and story. It has anything one could ask for such a game and more. The turn-based battle system offers a wide array of opportunities. While it may not be everyone's cup of tea, it is definitely recommended to give it a go.

Persona 5 beats every other turn-based RPG in terms of production values, combat, story, symbolics, character design, music, pace and variety. 2017 is a great year for gaming and Persona 5 confirms this with a load of unmatched swagger.
