He lies to the Gamers about non-existent and disputed content like Multiplayer, endless options and frame rate. We Gamers should make clear, that the gaming industry has to stop **** with us. In the last 2-3 years, many games generated wrong expectations inside the consumers, what is unacceptable and normally called "deception". This has to stop and WE, the Gamers, are the first step to change the situation right now.

You hate it or you love it. Plus there is a incredible technology of procedural generation without loading screens between planets and space. It could improve in many aspects especially in the use of the inventory, the mechanics are simple but satisfying and also the developer Hello Games has said that they gonna adding more content and all for free, including the next update will be base and space freighters building. No Man's Sky is not a perfect game, and sometimes it can become repetitive, but is a increible and unique experience that I recomend to all old school fans of science fiction. The game is great.
It gives the feeling of infinite space, of freedom and mystery.
The game turned out to be exactly as promised by the developers.
The only drawback may be considered too high for an indie game price. But does the high price, something is getting worse?

Eventually, full forrests with giant rhinos demanding a that I keep clear.

The game is NOT for everyone. Survival elements are light enough that you aren't scraping by. Combat is simple enough against a limit roster of enemies. It dives head-long into exploration. So many planets. Some are boring rocks. Some are rich with life. But, as I found on the boring rock, numerous alien artifacts might be scattered around for me to steal.

This game isn't for everyone. If you are happy to enjoy a quiet, unique, and solitary experience, this is it. If you want multiplayer, combat depth, and a deep narrative presented to you, go elsewhere.

Sure, Hello Games didn't live up to all of their promises, but this game is good despite it. I LOVE what it is.

I started at 7/10 but after close to eight hours you can see it for what it is, a tech demo without substance.

What it isn't is a great game; they desperately need to sort out space combat, inventory management and controls (are you flying the spaceship or is it flying you?), Either way, you can only mine rocks for so long before you start questioning your very existence.

It's a passable game perhaps which with updates might become more interesting. Maybe.

    5/10 wouldn't hyperspace again.

Games like No Man's Sky don't come along all that often these days. At its core, it is a Space Trading game like Elite, but there are also the post 2000's gameplay from Minecraft. And simplified games systems which mean you can do pretty much everything right away. Because of that it actually stops being 'just' a trading game, and instead encourages you to explore new worlds and seek out new life wherever you find it. The reward the game gives is not instant gratification. Like minecraft without the building, No Man Sky delivers exactly what we wanted from a exploration game.

Comparisons with Elite are most stark, the exploration part of No Man's Sky is dialed up to 11. Within in a single play session, you can be walking along the surface of a densely lush planet. Mine for Gold, jump into a pool of water, swim around and discover new life. Then Jump into your ship, cruise around the surface of the planet, and locate ancient ruins, or settlements, or trade stations, or the countless other things that are all over the planet. Then with a simple pulling back of your joystick and boost out you fly in orbit around that planet, mine asteroids for fuel and then FTL to the station in the system to trade all your found goodies. Meet intelligent lifeforms and learn there language. And all that, before you ever hyperspace to another star system. Just like Elite, No Man's Sky boasts a near limitless bounty to explore. But there is also a thread of a overriding quest involving the 'Atlas', guiding you to who knows what and where.

On top of all of that, you can name every system, every planet, every species of flora and fauna you come across. Every settlement you stumble upon. (just make sure you 'save' your game at an outpost or you will be refilling in those names!!

For me, No Man Sky is easily the most original, most addictive and most humbling of titles. How a 10 person team of coders have accomplished this, is beyond me. The level of sophistication and polish puts this way beyond what we have all come to accept in Indie titles.

Are there things that I want to see improved? yes, performance whilst on my rig is pretty much flawless. On the more busy planets frame-rates go sub 30fps. And there is the very occasional 'pause' when there is a lot happening. But these are forgivable gripes.

So because of that, I will be awarding No Man's Sky a 9/10. But also should say this is a 'MUST BUY' for every budding explorer out there.

Plain and simple, the game focuses on collecting material, upgrading, and doing it all over again. Does it look like what was originally shown? No. Not too many games ever do (there are exceptions). The fact that a 15 man team made this though is amazing.

I personally am playing the game in a way where I do explore planets, I do collect material, scan plants and animals, but I also am after the lore of the game and chasing The Atlas (whatever it is). It all depends how you play the game.

Don't go into this game thinking it is some big shooter, space flight, massive online game. It's a single-player, massive universe, collection game with a lore that you can choose to follow. Take the time to enjoy the planets and relax and you will find enjoyment out of it. Just maybe not what you were thinking.

The fact that Hello Games plans to support this for a while is nice. They have updates in the works to add more, so I feel this will be a bit like Minecraft in the sense where more and more options and gameplay elements will be implemented. The game will build itself over time, you just have to give it that time.

    Cons:
-Almost TOO MUCH freedom with too little structure
-Lack of multiplayer and NPCs makes you feel very small and alone in a huge universe
-After initial awe wears off, game begins to feel repetitive
    -Resource gathering feels grind-y
-Space combat is both predictable yet difficult
    -Lack of purpose/endgame/direction

When I first started the game up, I was completely awed by the sense of scale that this game had. Zooming out on the galaxy map made you really feel like you were in the biggest sandbox in gaming history. The lack of loading between space and ground is remarkable, the procedurally generated worlds looked unique and polished, and I can't overstate how incredible an accomplishment this is for a developer team as small as Hello Games.

After about 10 hours, that initial shine has begun to tarnish and the core gameplay elements are overshadowing the amazement that I experienced at first. Despite the fun mini-quests of distress calls, crashed ships, and language research, and the path of the Atlas and quest to get to the center of the galaxy, I couldn't help but ask myself "...is this it?" In a universe of 18 quintillion planets, with essentially limitless possibilities of animals, plants, planets, encounters, and more, I felt like I would just be doing the same thing, over and over again, on a new planet as I follow a path towards one of two unknown, unexplained purposes.

Resource gathering is far too simple, as nearly anything you need to gather is within a minute's walk from your ship. There was never a time where I felt panicked over not having enough of a resource for any of my essential systems. Space combat basically consists of enemies flying away from you, turning around, and flying straight at you over and over until one of you dies.

I understand the importance of freedom in this game, when they advertised "trade-explore-fight-survive" as the four pillars of the game. But there was never really a point where I felt like "I'll become a pirate!" or "I'll become an explorer!" because all four of those elements are so interwoven and equally as important that it's essentially impossible to survive by doing just one of them.

However, more than anything, you just feel alone in an impossibly big universe, where you never encounter more than one NPC at a time unless there are multiple ships sitting in the same hanger. The lack of multiplayer support (and I'm not a huge multiplayer person) in a game of this size just doesn't make sense. As I wandered around, cataloguing animals and talking with the one NPC stationed in each outpost, I felt like what I was doing would have absolutely zero impact on the universe, because nobody would ever know I was there.

Hopefully, as the devs release new content and add more elements to the game, it will become what everyone wants it to be. For now, it's just another survival-crafting game, albeit one set in an amazingly large sandbox made by an amazingly small team of people.

It's definitely not for everyone but the concept and gameplay as well as the epic scope warrant at least a strong seven to a light eight.

The inventory management is still a chore, but the overall gameplay falls into place when you start to understand how the game works. It's actually quite well designed and diverse.

It does have its flaws though. The whole game does feel a bit dull when it comes to npc's and wildlife. All being procedurally generated, it doesn't take long until you realize that even though things look different, they all act exactly the same. So it's basically the same animals with different looks. Same goes for NPC's. They looks slightly different from one another, but they are always the same static 3D models sitting in a chair in exactly the same position when you arrive at the space stations or outposts.

But when you start seeing the game as sortof of a table top game instead of a space RPG - then it starts working! Just imagine the NPC's as static plastic figurines who let's you do certain tasks that then enables other stuff and so on. The underlying game mechanics are certainly quite interesting and entertaining.

Landing on new planets is always enjoyable. Will there be riches? Will it be lush with forest? Are the sentinels gonna come after me? Will I find a trading outpost? So many variables make it quite enjoyable, although the potential for more is immense. So I look forward to seeing what HelloGames manage to implement in the future.

NMS has come a long way since its release last year. Certainly, it's deserving of the criticism that more should have been in the game on launch. Base building, the new tech system, freighters, and increased alien interaction have addressed many early complaints. While there are a LOT of criticisms that can be leveled at the marketing for this game, the end result is a unique experience that (while is not for everyone) is at least worth a rent by any lover of the art of game design.

Many reviewers have arrived at their negative score because they are viewing this as a traditional game where you "beat" it and get some kind of payoff. One with action, bosses, etc. NMS is not that kind of game, it's probably better to think of it as a flight sim or art museum than the high sci-fi of Elite Dangerous.

There is lore, and a story, but really it just adds to the atmosphere. The universe is vast, the planets are stunning (more diversity on that front has been added as well). the game has a lively community and upcoming updates promise to add more to the Euclid.

    1. Is it worth the $60US price tag that would normally come with a AAA game?
    2. 6 hours into the game, do I feel like I have experienced diversity, a repeated sense of wonder and a drive to do more to achieve goals?
    3. Is the feeling of immersion unbroken?

In answer to all three of these questions I would have to say no. $60 is FAR too much for a game in such a state. If I pay AAA prices the I expect a finish to the overall product that doesn't leave me wondering what could've been nor what the time frames for fixing it look like. Not only does it have an overwhelming feeling of rinse/repeat but since I discovered the simple process of harvesting Vortex Cubes I have now achieved the goal of a large ship so now what? The 'story' is so thin that there is no sense of achievement in following it beyond it being some direction. Interaction with aliens is so superficial that learning their language is a waste of time. In fact the only reason why I enjoyed monoliths was for the break in the tedium of flying around trying to find extra nodes to learn words. Finally the buggyness and sloppy feeling of flying has left me feeling like immersion is almost non-existent. You just start getting into it and then it starts chopping up. You approach a base and engage landing and it lands you next to a platform not on it!!!

Frankly I'm not interesting in what it could be, I expect that paying AAA prices means that I'm buying what it is, and what it is, is a $15 game at best and that's what I'd pay. However I would consider paying more for expansions and not feel ripped off. Right now though it's not a great experience and far too repetitive

They are all valid in my opinion. My personal opinion is I love this game. I love this tech demo, whatever you want to call it. I am enjoying it very much.

But of all the comment themes the "not what i expected" theme is killing me hard. We all saw game play and we all read about the game prior to release. I have seen people complain about the repetitive nature of the game and the lackluster "OTHER" mechanics like weapon game play or the survival aspect. But for all of you who have not played the game yet and are considering getting it, just consider the expectations you have of the game and THEN ASK YOURSELF WHY YOU EXPECT that?

This game is not a FPS...so why would someone expect evolved weapon mechanics or even better game play with respect to that?

This game is repetitive in the sense all games are repetitive. The quadrillion planets "not being different enough" is kind of rooted in reality. This game takes on something that actually mimics the size of a universe. And people want the 18 quadrillion planets to be more different than they are now? Can anyone even name 18 quadrillion UNIQUE aspects of a planet that would be noticeable in a game. You roll dice, your going to get the same outcome sometimes....its probability,

So that this doesnt get too long, its an awesome experience, and dont expect things in this game that have no basis to be expected. Dont expect massive MMO action, where you getting that from? Dont expect DayZ survival, why would you? Dont expect a quadrillion styles of ship or weapons....was that promised? Do not expect anything. Take it with a blank slate and you will be glad you experienced it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay A lot of people this game is not fun and there's no enough content, have you at least made it to the center of the universe? I am already 20 hours in and i haven't reach a little bit of the main quest besides there's a lot to do, there's a lot of lore like in other games like the souls series, the alien razes are unique, i would like more but there are unique in their own way, learn different languages is a grind on itself and it's really easy to lose time only doing that, the crafting works very well, obviously the planets sometimes feel the same because whe need some basic materials to be on every planet we go, like the carbon and plutonium. I would love that they make multiplayer making the game even more fun but i can live without it. The reactions the critics and the public are having against this game are because they hype the game as they shouldn't have, all the trailers show exactly what we where going to, so if you bought the game and are dissapointed because it wasn't what you expecting because of hoy hype it was, wit all respect you are an idiot and should feel shame for talking about this game, it's not perfect but it isn't bad at all, it is easiy the best game of this year and how Sean said this game is divisive and we are seeing that, he never lied, the only thing the game needs is a little bit of polish with some patches.

Besides guys a 12 person people made this game, that's amazing, it's something we have to recognize

This game is exactly what I thought it would be. An interesting space exploration game. I love it for being just that, and I feel like that's how the developers pitched it. If you go into No Man's Sky expecting any more than that, you may be disappointed.

Long story short: If you love exploring, try this game out. If you are looking for action, you should probably pass on No Man's Sky.

As far as I can tell, this game doesn't incorporate this mechanic, and it's such a basic part of amusement - from slot machines to Pokemon- it breaks a cardinal rule. The second piece of science missing is that some basic physics like orbits (day/night cycles) seem to be missing. Besides just incorporating a randomizing element, how hard would it be to make the result follow some basic laws of physics? Of course then you'd be searching for years to find ONE planet that had life, but oh what a game THAT'D be! Expand

THIS GAME, it is not for the average gamer. It is really about exploring and farming within a giant universe. The planets that i have encountered all felt very different. The art style is fantastic it has a very 1970's feel to it. The bashers are people that dont have patience to farm and explore. This game is not for the Call of duty fan boy!

After the new Atlas Rises update, I'm happy to see this game has improved quite a bit from when it originally released. The graphics are better, there's more missions and they have added a multiplayer component that I hope they will keep building upon. I applaud Hello Games for sticking with it and improving the game instead of abandoning it.

What it is, is a exploration and survival game, with survival being a main focus of the game. I didn't even know that till last night when watching interviews, but I still took the chance anyway. There isn't much of a story and there simply wont be. The interviews and such have stated it has cinematics and such to start, but is a survival game and a single player experience where you may come across another player later on. It mostly is gathering resources, exploring planets, and getting new species discovered while looking for technology and surviving....That may turn away some people, but for me that is the experience I wanted. I wanted to be able to land on planets and explore while also just drifting across the cosmos. Sure to some it may as well be a pretty screensaver, but to me I knew exactly what I was going to get. The people that expected something different, didnt bother looking past the trailers. Trailers never are exactly what a game will be, you need to listen to Q and As, watch some interviews, be sure that is the game you want. And to be perfectly honest, If you are THAT bothered by how the game is, or if you are waiting for the steam release and you dont like it, GO REFUND IT!!! GO GET YOUR MONEY BACK IF YOU HATE IT! NOONE IS FORCING YOU TO KEEP IT OR PLAY IT! But for the others who have actually read through all of this and think it is an experience you would be willing to try, Go for it. The gameplay does get stale at times, but all games do at some point down the road. That's why you log off of games, take it in doses, then hop off when you start getting bored of it. The graphics, while some say are last gen, to me have a charm to them and I love them. Funky colors and all. The music is amazing but I still prefer to play my own music during the game, and almost all issues they talk about with the game can be remedied as the creator said himself, by continuing with the game and upgrading what you have. I hope this has helped at least one person out. I give No Man's Sky an 8/10. Expand

To give a little background, I have been pretty hyped about this game for the better part of 2 years now but at the same time have toned down my expectations the more previews and early gameplays i have seen. I love sandbox/openworld games but do not like Minecraft.

    Pros:
The exhiliration of flying in and out of planets and systems. Even though many of planets are "somewhat" same looking, there are still many moments when I walk onto the edge of what I think is just a small hill and suddenly see an vast expanse of gigantic cliffs and crevasse with weird and cool looking alien faunas.

Great reward and bait system. Explore -> mine -> learn new tech-> sell-> buy upgrade -> continue over again. Its easy to keep on doing this when you are constantly thinking what lies just beyond the system.

    Cons:
Space combat is horrendous. Extremely difficult to control the ship while aiming with the L stick. Feels like your sitting in a floating twirling cage trying to hit a moving fly on a wall from 100 meters out.

Certain processes gets really repetitive really fast. Same type of structures and contents on each planet. So basically you go to the same looking structure and do the same thing on planet after planet.

Upgrades and thiings to upgrade on seems limited so far. You can upgrade your suit, ship, and gun. Upgrading ship and guns seems somewhat unnecessary even, since you can just buy new ones with already upgraded techs. Also many upgrades will say they give you faster cooldown or harder damage, but its hard to see that in play. Upgrading would be more fun if you can see it having a noticeable affect.

Procedurally generated environment (with trademarked super algorithm by Sean) is a very limited pool of models mixed together and repainted with random color. Animals look stupid, planets look the same. There are no ice giants, no gas giants, you can't crash into a planet, you can't fly into a star and burn because system's stars are just sprites and not game objects. Its vast playground, might offer endless possibilities. Repetitiveness is inevitable in such a large worldmap although i am sure devs are going to increase variety in terms of point of interests/events etc. The game is out only for a couple of days and people started to claim they have seen everything... Your brain cannot even visualize 10 million beans while there are 10 million times more places to go.

This game is a must buy for people that likes exploring and chilling out while enjoying scenery. Settlers will need to wait a bit more since the devs said construction will be available in later content patches.

I do not recommend this game if you only like action and narrative focused games.

Look and feel: The ultra-colourful 70s style sci-fi art and explorative theme are a breath of fresh air after all the moodily lit dystopian shooters that have hit the console since its launch.
There are some graphical quirks when coming down onto the planet and some of the textures look low-res up-close but based on the fact that these are procedurally generated, they should be forgiven.
The soundtrack complements the game well and the sound effects work well.

Gameplay: The exploration of new worlds is an incredible experience to start with but does become a little repeatative after 20 or so worlds. Also, the variances in their algorythms begin to get stretched at the same marker, as the flora & fauna begin to look a little familiar.
Shooting on the ground isn't great and not loads better in the skies but it's not the reason for playing this game...
Trading & building your language skills is strangely compelling as you move from system to system but the inventory system is a patch or two away from being workable.

Summary: If you're open to new experiences and have a penchant for 70's sci-fi, you'll love it... If you want a solid space shoot-em-up with a strong story line, Destiny may be more your thing.

This game IS for you if you like to explore, scavenge, and travel the expansive world known as No Man's Sky. I love this game for many reasons, the first is being able to name everything you discover. You can name the system, the planets, the moons, the fauna, and even specific points on the planet. This gives me so much excitement because I have a huge imagination and want to release that. The pure joy of this game is exploration. I love warping into a new system and getting surprised at what lays there waiting for me to discover it.

This game is for those who want that sense of enjoyment discovering a new system or naming a weird looking creature. It is not a game for the hard core gamer who wants an objective to complete. No Man's Sky gives very little direction and I love it about that.

The reason I gave it an 8, was because the activities run short after a few hours of exploring. I wish I had a few objectives to find or complete on each planet that switched up the gameplay just a little. But other than that, this game is phenomenal.

If Hello Games continues to support and expand the features the way they've committed, I could easily see NMS growing into a 10. Regardless, of rating or repetition, there aren't many video games that infect my dreams and have me spending as much time snapping screen-shots as I do mining ore. Expand

There is a lot of backlash already about this game and just reading all the posts and articles, people were really expecting a huge multiplayer experience which I knew from day one was not going to be the case. I like others have been waiting for this game or even a game like this for a long time. Very eager to crack on and in the beginning I was taken aback at how good it is, then we skip to now only 5-6 hours in and I have lost patience and become bored with the same routines. Poor spaceflight and lack of solid interaction with the other races, the grind to expand the lack of inventory, yes I can get more slots, yes I can grind until I have a bigger ship at a cost of more grinding, endlessly mining the same minerals over and over to fly back to a space port to sell and see if I can upgrade but for what? Dont get me wrong, I enjoy this sandbox type of game, I dont require a purpose in a game Minecraft springs to mind...but it is on a different level. NMS lack of depth is becoming more and more apparent which is a massive shame as it could, with a bit more polish and a few more features be an amazing game it truly could.

It should not in my opinion have been released at this point as it is just a huge sandbox demo of what it could do and very little to do at this point. Hellogames have done a brilliant job of building this huge world but should have held this back for another year to fill it with all the features it craves or passed this massive world to someone that has the expertise to add all of the bits into it as the platform is done and is done quite well, the size is there for all to see but what isn't is everything or anything even close to what people want to do inside it.

The biggest shame of all is that it can all be sorted through months or even years of updates, but by then it will be just another amongst the other forgotten about hyped up games which could have delivered but due to pressures of deadlines and the need to rush the end and cash in, it didn't.

As you can see from the list, this is either a game you love or a game that you find very boring and can't understand what the rest of us are swooning over. A few other reviewers have made some good summaries: "Imagination required." "If you play Minecraft by climbing over the next hill and never settling down, this is for you." And I'd agree they are spot on. A few other reviewers have made some good summaries: "Imagination required." "If you play Minecraft by climbing over the next hill and never settling down, this is for you." And I'd agree they are spot on. I've spent over 20 hours in this game now, and still get excited when I hit my warp drive and jump into a new system. What new planets will I find? What new lifeforms? Will the advanced alien race who lives there be one I know the language to already or will I be at a disadvantage. These are the questions that drive me and these are the reasons for me that No Man's Sky is an astounding game. For 15 minutes on one planet I stood atop a tower of gold, slowly thinking through how to harvest it without falling to my death or leaving any large sections out of reach. On another planet I spied some underwater caves, and spent time prepping my breathing tech and building power supplies so I wouldn't be caught without air in the dark recesses. And on a third, I cautiously circled a giant herbivore from a distance till I was sure it wouldn't act defensively, trampling me in fear. These are the wonders of this game, and obviously my willingness to suspend disbelief and pretend I'm in a fantastical space opera universe goes a long way to increasing my enjoyment. I find that when you look for the seams in the game - when you shine a light on what is basically just algorithms and facades built over indestructible guts, that's when the game dulls.

I love this game, I can't imagine not playing it for months on end but I also know that at some point the repetitive nature of tasks may start to wear thin. But all games are repetitive I would argue. Halo was a great game but it does boil down to maybe two dozen different tactics.

If the question is if this is a good game or a bad game, my opinion is that it's a great game. What Hello Games has created here is something I've never seen in another game to this degree with the resources they had - on a console no less. If the question is will you like this game, hopefully you read other reviews and try to match up the kind of gamer you are with the reviewer. All I can say is if you're the kind of person who plays a game of Minecraft as an exploration survival game, your structures serving a functional purpose before fashion. If you played Mass Effect and wished you could drive the Mako over the horizon or visit more random planets in the hope of finding a new little secret. If you thought Halo's 2 gun only inventory management was strategic and didn't long for the "carry it all" mentality of Doom. Well, then this game will likely keep you enthralled for as long as you let it. No Man's Sky is a virtual holodeck of fun - just don't try to find the walls of the room or the limits of the AI's programing.

The gathering element is particularly frustrating when you get involved in an entertaining dog fight and have to run away because you used up all your ammunition and need to go wander around looking for isotopes elements. Yeah, that sounds kinda simmy and so you can say it makes sense but it replaces fun with chores too much of the time, maybe more inventory slots will alleviate it but I get the feeling the resources are meant to hamstring you and won't be surprised if bigger ships with bigger inventory space will just need more of the resources to operate so your not better off.

Meeting aliens and learning a language is 'neat' and is a form of resource gathering that I do find enjoyable.

In the end this isn't really a game about exploring but about gathering resources and in that respect I get way more fun out of subnautica but if titles like 'Don't Starve' rock your boat then maybe you will probably get more than I did from this.

It was OK for the first three months, but then there seemed to be some sort of cultural shift and PT Cruisers were now for losers. But I couldn't afford anything else and the trade-in value just plummeted. So, I had people pointing and laughing and I was embarrassed to pick up guys and girls for dates for fear they would hate my car. So I ending up staying home most of the time. And then I got depressed and I was in a really dark place.

All because of that dam car!

    Anyway, enjoying the game.

It is a game that is more akin to Minecraft. You walk around an infinite universe, and make discoveries. That is it. If this does not appeal to you, then I would suggest you either wait until a future update adds in something you like, or skip this altogether.

As it is right now, No Man's Sky is almost exactly like Minecraft. There's not a lot to do, and for the most part you're just going to be running around the place doing the same things over and over again. But with time, future updates, and a little help from the (good parts) of the community, this can become something spectacular.

Yes, I know Sean Murray said you could see other players 2 years ago, and no I don't care. I think once a few patches are addressed it will set the bar far above anything like it for some time. When you put it against the hundreds of developers that go into **** rehashed fps shooters every year and games cut into smaller DLC packs to maximise money over an enjoyable experience (*coughs* Activision) you realise what it is Hello Games has offered. This game is a perfect example of hype, I look at the reviews and all the "critics" are really just sheep to afraid to say anything bad about a developer cause other developers won't invite them anymore if they get a reputation of not giving the review the developers want.

This game apart from the graphics is really no better than the free flash games out there, the planets may look a bit different but all your there to do is mine the same 6-8 materials , take pictures of forgettable creatures and plants and head off to the next place and do it all over again. The ships are generic, you could fly a cardboard box and it wouldn't matter as long as there is more inventory space than the last one you had. The questline is forgettable and the alien races don't matter either. No multiplayer either is lame, basically you connect to a server just to get content and interaction is non existant.

This is the kind of game we need more of! My first 5 hours I could not put the game down. If you like exploration and space; you have found the ultimate game. If you get sick of mining; then use all that money you have saved up to do some shopping and just go explore for a while. New planets never cease to amaze, and getting into some dogfights protecting a cargo freighter or two will keep your pulse up.

The story has some nice depth to it. It's interesting; but also something that can be shared with the whole family (I often play with my 9 year old daughter). I am about 30 hours in and still learning and evolving my equipment.

The technical accomplishment of this game should not be pushed aside. Procedurally generating an entire universe of planets, plants, animals, and ships is amazing. And it works surprisingly well for the first release! Some of the planets are just incredibly beautiful; as I'm sure you've all see in the many screenshots. People complaining about graphics "pop-in" have evidently never played Minecraft. The world is actually being generated as you look at new areas; so just have a tiny amount of patience and things look fabulous.

The closest thing to compare this game to is Minecraft; and there is WAY more going on here than the first release of Minecraft. Granted it costs 2x the price of Minecraft; but it is well worth it for the number of hours of enjoyment you will get here. Imagine where Minecraft has come in the years since initial release...now imagine where No Man's Sky will take us!

    It's a great time to be a gamer :-)

The new update is everything I could have asked for in this game. This comeback is better than Destiny, the vindication is deserved. They salvaged the unsalvageable no developer I've ever seen has surprised me more than Sean Murray and HG did with this. Fantastic game, and the updates are far from over.

A game that continues to add and build upon a very shallow and expansive foundation, and with every update gets closer to becoming a game every space lover and explorer should own. Never have I felt a game with bigger potential and one that tries so desperately to stray from an on-rails experience in every respect. The universe is there, waiting for you to explore....but without your own motivations and need to do so, you will feel like No Man's Sky is a peculiar game with only as much substance as you give it. Just like real life, if you have no intention or desire to see the sunrise from the top of a mountain then you can not possible understand what motivates someone to make an early morning hike in pursuit of said view. This game is about the experiences and the journey of being a lonely space explorer discovering new worlds and trying to find their place in an endless universe which may very well be one giant simulation. What then is the motivation to take a step forward, to fly to the next system and plant the next flag on a barren unforgiving landscape, to brave hostile worlds for valuable resources which only add your journey forward...........

Only the true explorer among us will know.

NMS is my kind of game because it demonstrates wonder, big stuff, and a sense of exploration.
If you love exploration games, you are a curious person in general, like space and sci-fi, and movies like Interstellar/2001: A Space Odyssey, im glad to say this is THE game for you.

Finding a creature, a planet, that is completely unique, gives you a tap on the back and you feel proud, because the thing you found is a unique in a 18 quintillion planets universe.
    An absolute, **** masterpiece.

No Man's Sky is at its core a sort of space trucker simulator that entails flying around the mathematically generated space boonies visiting planets and examining flora and fauna that more often than not are as different as different sized holes in a fine slice of Swiss. Now, I'm not trying to knock the game; I myself happen to enjoy a good slice of Swiss every once and awhile, but I'm not going to leave scathing reviews for mozzarella on a cheese rating website because of it. Discounting it's wonky controls, No Man's Sky actually accomplishes everything it set out to. It's impossibly large, procedurally generated, and full of surprisingly engaging lore hidden away in a style reminiscent of the souls series. Almost all of the shortcomings of NMS come not from the game itself, but from the ridiculous fanbase that has grown up around it. Imagine being a connoisseur of swiss cheese, waiting around for the annual swisscon, only to find thousands of mozarella lovers holed up outside. The big day finally comes, and the event hall is burned down by angry mozarella lovers who finally realize that despite also being a type of cheese, swiss has an identity that is entirely different from the mozarella they know and love. What I mean to say is this; No Man's Sky is not a game for everyone, and it's mostly negative criticism is born of people coming from games like assassins creed, the Arkham series, or GTA, who's experience with open worlds is incomplete without something exploding every 5 seconds. No Man's Sky is really meant for the more niche crowd, who can wait hours for their explosions, and are entirely gratified seeing none at all. If that honestly sounds like you, give the game a try and you'll love it. If not, read this review as a 1 and leave, unless of course you enjoy being wholly let down. Some people get off on it. I bought this game on a whim at midnight last night and next thing I knew, it
was 3AM. I think this game would appeal most to people who liked Skyrim or Fallout 3, but wished there were less people (a love of Star Trek wouldn't hurt either). Time will tell how long this holds my attention, but I can't wait to get back to playing it.

I'm liking it a lot so far. I've been farming high cost resources and running from sentinels. I'm upgrading my suit, ship, and mining gun. This game is pretty much what the developers said it would be. I'm looking forward to continued support by Hello Games.

This is as close to space exploration I can get to and I love it. I hope it will be VR compatible. Take you time with the game, don't rush, take it all in.

I bet HELLO games will add a multiplayer so you can explore with your friends, give them time. With each update, The game will adjust. You have to understand that this game follow the rules of the universe as we know it.

Most sandbox fans understand that procedural generation does not come without flaws! Those who enjoy sandbox games will enjoy this. Most of these reviews have not spent enough time with game to review it. The closer you get to the centre the more interesting things get. If you are not a sandbox fan, don't waste your time and don't bother playing because you will not like it.

While I’m sure developer Hello Games is still tweaking things and perhaps even creating more content for No Man’s Sky, the current state of affairs is a strong one. This galactic opus still offers an infinite amount of content for those who want to lose themselves among the stars, but now also contains a concrete throughline that will satisfy a wider array of players. It can be irritating at times, but it’s also full of stunning moments and the satisfaction of building a virtual life among the stars. Four years after launch, it’s finally a journey worth taking.

While No Man's Sky is engrossing for the first few hours, repetition starts to set in and the proceedings grow dull. The developers stated that they plan to add significant features such as base building which could dramatically change the game for the better. There's a promising foundation present, so it's possible to envision a more substantial game down the line. As it currently stands, though, our excitement to cross the universe faded sooner than we expected.
