He lies to the Gamers about non-existent and disputed content like Multiplayer, endless options and frame rate. We Gamers should make clear, that the gaming industry has to stop **** with us. In the last 2-3 years, many games generated wrong expectations inside the consumers, what is unacceptable and normally called "deception". This has to stop and WE, the Gamers, are the first step to change the situation right now.

You hate it or you love it. Plus there is a incredible technology of procedural generation without loading screens between planets and space. It could improve in many aspects especially in the use of the inventory, the mechanics are simple but satisfying and also the developer Hello Games has said that they gonna adding more content and all for free, including the next update will be base and space freighters building. No Man's Sky is not a perfect game, and sometimes it can become repetitive, but is a increible and unique experience that I recomend to all old school fans of science fiction. The game is great.
It gives the feeling of infinite space, of freedom and mystery.
The game turned out to be exactly as promised by the developers.
The only drawback may be considered too high for an indie game price. But does the high price, something is getting worse?

Eventually, full forrests with giant rhinos demanding a that I keep clear.

The game is NOT for everyone. Survival elements are light enough that you aren't scraping by. Combat is simple enough against a limit roster of enemies. It dives head-long into exploration. So many planets. Some are boring rocks. Some are rich with life. But, as I found on the boring rock, numerous alien artifacts might be scattered around for me to steal.

This game isn't for everyone. If you are happy to enjoy a quiet, unique, and solitary experience, this is it. If you want multiplayer, combat depth, and a deep narrative presented to you, go elsewhere.

Sure, Hello Games didn't live up to all of their promises, but this game is good despite it. I LOVE what it is.

I started at 7/10 but after close to eight hours you can see it for what it is, a tech demo without substance.

What it isn't is a great game; they desperately need to sort out space combat, inventory management and controls (are you flying the spaceship or is it flying you?), Either way, you can only mine rocks for so long before you start questioning your very existence.

It's a passable game perhaps which with updates might become more interesting. Maybe.

    5/10 wouldn't hyperspace again.

Games like No Man's Sky don't come along all that often these days. At its core, it is a Space Trading game like Elite, but there are also the post 2000's gameplay from Minecraft. And simplified games systems which mean you can do pretty much everything right away. Because of that it actually stops being 'just' a trading game, and instead encourages you to explore new worlds and seek out new life wherever you find it. The reward the game gives is not instant gratification. Like minecraft without the building, No Man Sky delivers exactly what we wanted from a exploration game.

Comparisons with Elite are most stark, the exploration part of No Man's Sky is dialed up to 11. Within in a single play session, you can be walking along the surface of a densely lush planet. Mine for Gold, jump into a pool of water, swim around and discover new life. Then Jump into your ship, cruise around the surface of the planet, and locate ancient ruins, or settlements, or trade stations, or the countless other things that are all over the planet. Then with a simple pulling back of your joystick and boost out you fly in orbit around that planet, mine asteroids for fuel and then FTL to the station in the system to trade all your found goodies. Meet intelligent lifeforms and learn there language. And all that, before you ever hyperspace to another star system. Just like Elite, No Man's Sky boasts a near limitless bounty to explore. But there is also a thread of a overriding quest involving the 'Atlas', guiding you to who knows what and where.

On top of all of that, you can name every system, every planet, every species of flora and fauna you come across. Every settlement you stumble upon. (just make sure you 'save' your game at an outpost or you will be refilling in those names!!

For me, No Man Sky is easily the most original, most addictive and most humbling of titles. How a 10 person team of coders have accomplished this, is beyond me. The level of sophistication and polish puts this way beyond what we have all come to accept in Indie titles.

Are there things that I want to see improved? yes, performance whilst on my rig is pretty much flawless. On the more busy planets frame-rates go sub 30fps. And there is the very occasional 'pause' when there is a lot happening. But these are forgivable gripes.

So because of that, I will be awarding No Man's Sky a 9/10. But also should say this is a 'MUST BUY' for every budding explorer out there.

Plain and simple, the game focuses on collecting material, upgrading, and doing it all over again. Does it look like what was originally shown? No. Not too many games ever do (there are exceptions). The fact that a 15 man team made this though is amazing.

I personally am playing the game in a way where I do explore planets, I do collect material, scan plants and animals, but I also am after the lore of the game and chasing The Atlas (whatever it is). It all depends how you play the game.

Don't go into this game thinking it is some big shooter, space flight, massive online game. It's a single-player, massive universe, collection game with a lore that you can choose to follow. Take the time to enjoy the planets and relax and you will find enjoyment out of it. Just maybe not what you were thinking.

The fact that Hello Games plans to support this for a while is nice. They have updates in the works to add more, so I feel this will be a bit like Minecraft in the sense where more and more options and gameplay elements will be implemented. The game will build itself over time, you just have to give it that time.

    Cons:
-Almost TOO MUCH freedom with too little structure
-Lack of multiplayer and NPCs makes you feel very small and alone in a huge universe
-After initial awe wears off, game begins to feel repetitive
    -Resource gathering feels grind-y
-Space combat is both predictable yet difficult
    -Lack of purpose/endgame/direction

When I first started the game up, I was completely awed by the sense of scale that this game had. Zooming out on the galaxy map made you really feel like you were in the biggest sandbox in gaming history. The lack of loading between space and ground is remarkable, the procedurally generated worlds looked unique and polished, and I can't overstate how incredible an accomplishment this is for a developer team as small as Hello Games.

After about 10 hours, that initial shine has begun to tarnish and the core gameplay elements are overshadowing the amazement that I experienced at first. Despite the fun mini-quests of distress calls, crashed ships, and language research, and the path of the Atlas and quest to get to the center of the galaxy, I couldn't help but ask myself "...is this it?" In a universe of 18 quintillion planets, with essentially limitless possibilities of animals, plants, planets, encounters, and more, I felt like I would just be doing the same thing, over and over again, on a new planet as I follow a path towards one of two unknown, unexplained purposes.

Resource gathering is far too simple, as nearly anything you need to gather is within a minute's walk from your ship. There was never a time where I felt panicked over not having enough of a resource for any of my essential systems. Space combat basically consists of enemies flying away from you, turning around, and flying straight at you over and over until one of you dies.

I understand the importance of freedom in this game, when they advertised "trade-explore-fight-survive" as the four pillars of the game. But there was never really a point where I felt like "I'll become a pirate!" or "I'll become an explorer!" because all four of those elements are so interwoven and equally as important that it's essentially impossible to survive by doing just one of them.

However, more than anything, you just feel alone in an impossibly big universe, where you never encounter more than one NPC at a time unless there are multiple ships sitting in the same hanger. The lack of multiplayer support (and I'm not a huge multiplayer person) in a game of this size just doesn't make sense. As I wandered around, cataloguing animals and talking with the one NPC stationed in each outpost, I felt like what I was doing would have absolutely zero impact on the universe, because nobody would ever know I was there.

Hopefully, as the devs release new content and add more elements to the game, it will become what everyone wants it to be. For now, it's just another survival-crafting game, albeit one set in an amazingly large sandbox made by an amazingly small team of people.

It's definitely not for everyone but the concept and gameplay as well as the epic scope warrant at least a strong seven to a light eight.

The inventory management is still a chore, but the overall gameplay falls into place when you start to understand how the game works. It's actually quite well designed and diverse.

It does have its flaws though. The whole game does feel a bit dull when it comes to npc's and wildlife. All being procedurally generated, it doesn't take long until you realize that even though things look different, they all act exactly the same. So it's basically the same animals with different looks. Same goes for NPC's. They looks slightly different from one another, but they are always the same static 3D models sitting in a chair in exactly the same position when you arrive at the space stations or outposts.

But when you start seeing the game as sortof of a table top game instead of a space RPG - then it starts working! Just imagine the NPC's as static plastic figurines who let's you do certain tasks that then enables other stuff and so on. The underlying game mechanics are certainly quite interesting and entertaining.

Landing on new planets is always enjoyable. Will there be riches? Will it be lush with forest? Are the sentinels gonna come after me? Will I find a trading outpost? So many variables make it quite enjoyable, although the potential for more is immense. So I look forward to seeing what HelloGames manage to implement in the future.

NMS has come a long way since its release last year. Certainly, it's deserving of the criticism that more should have been in the game on launch. Base building, the new tech system, freighters, and increased alien interaction have addressed many early complaints. While there are a LOT of criticisms that can be leveled at the marketing for this game, the end result is a unique experience that (while is not for everyone) is at least worth a rent by any lover of the art of game design.

Many reviewers have arrived at their negative score because they are viewing this as a traditional game where you "beat" it and get some kind of payoff. One with action, bosses, etc. NMS is not that kind of game, it's probably better to think of it as a flight sim or art museum than the high sci-fi of Elite Dangerous.

There is lore, and a story, but really it just adds to the atmosphere. The universe is vast, the planets are stunning (more diversity on that front has been added as well). the game has a lively community and upcoming updates promise to add more to the Euclid.

    1. Is it worth the $60US price tag that would normally come with a AAA game?
    2. 6 hours into the game, do I feel like I have experienced diversity, a repeated sense of wonder and a drive to do more to achieve goals?
    3. Is the feeling of immersion unbroken?

In answer to all three of these questions I would have to say no. $60 is FAR too much for a game in such a state. If I pay AAA prices the I expect a finish to the overall product that doesn't leave me wondering what could've been nor what the time frames for fixing it look like. Not only does it have an overwhelming feeling of rinse/repeat but since I discovered the simple process of harvesting Vortex Cubes I have now achieved the goal of a large ship so now what? The 'story' is so thin that there is no sense of achievement in following it beyond it being some direction. Interaction with aliens is so superficial that learning their language is a waste of time. In fact the only reason why I enjoyed monoliths was for the break in the tedium of flying around trying to find extra nodes to learn words. Finally the buggyness and sloppy feeling of flying has left me feeling like immersion is almost non-existent. You just start getting into it and then it starts chopping up. You approach a base and engage landing and it lands you next to a platform not on it!!!

Frankly I'm not interesting in what it could be, I expect that paying AAA prices means that I'm buying what it is, and what it is, is a $15 game at best and that's what I'd pay. However I would consider paying more for expansions and not feel ripped off. Right now though it's not a great experience and far too repetitive

They are all valid in my opinion. My personal opinion is I love this game. I love this tech demo, whatever you want to call it. I am enjoying it very much.

But of all the comment themes the "not what i expected" theme is killing me hard. We all saw game play and we all read about the game prior to release. I have seen people complain about the repetitive nature of the game and the lackluster "OTHER" mechanics like weapon game play or the survival aspect. But for all of you who have not played the game yet and are considering getting it, just consider the expectations you have of the game and THEN ASK YOURSELF WHY YOU EXPECT that?

This game is not a FPS...so why would someone expect evolved weapon mechanics or even better game play with respect to that?

This game is repetitive in the sense all games are repetitive. The quadrillion planets "not being different enough" is kind of rooted in reality. This game takes on something that actually mimics the size of a universe. And people want the 18 quadrillion planets to be more different than they are now? Can anyone even name 18 quadrillion UNIQUE aspects of a planet that would be noticeable in a game. You roll dice, your going to get the same outcome sometimes....its probability,

So that this doesnt get too long, its an awesome experience, and dont expect things in this game that have no basis to be expected. Dont expect massive MMO action, where you getting that from? Dont expect DayZ survival, why would you? Dont expect a quadrillion styles of ship or weapons....was that promised? Do not expect anything. Take it with a blank slate and you will be glad you experienced it.

Honestly impressed with this game. While I'm excited for the idea of base building and driving capital ships in the next update, it's great so far. It's pretty fun and I think it's a really interesting idea. However at the moment the combat enemies are a little bland and could use a tune up in terms of difficulty and variety, perhaps face off against humanoid enemies as well? This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay A lot of people this game is not fun and there's no enough content, have you at least made it to the center of the universe? I am already 20 hours in and i haven't reach a little bit of the main quest besides there's a lot to do, there's a lot of lore like in other games like the souls series, the alien razes are unique, i would like more but there are unique in their own way, learn different languages is a grind on itself and it's really easy to lose time only doing that, the crafting works very well, obviously the planets sometimes feel the same because whe need some basic materials to be on every planet we go, like the carbon and plutonium. I would love that they make multiplayer making the game even more fun but i can live without it. The reactions the critics and the public are having against this game are because they hype the game as they shouldn't have, all the trailers show exactly what we where going to, so if you bought the game and are dissapointed because it wasn't what you expecting because of hoy hype it was, wit all respect you are an idiot and should feel shame for talking about this game, it's not perfect but it isn't bad at all, it is easiy the best game of this year and how Sean said this game is divisive and we are seeing that, he never lied, the only thing the game needs is a little bit of polish with some patches.

Besides guys a 12 person people made this game, that's amazing, it's something we have to recognize

This game is exactly what I thought it would be. An interesting space exploration game. I love it for being just that, and I feel like that's how the developers pitched it. If you go into No Man's Sky expecting any more than that, you may be disappointed.

Long story short: If you love exploring, try this game out. If you are looking for action, you should probably pass on No Man's Sky.

Creating video games is an art AND a science- while the creators may have established a unique artistry for their game, there's a few important pieces of science missing. First, the reason we "grind" is because of a "variable reward schedule"- never knowing when an epic piece of gear will pop up, for example. First, the reason we "grind" is because of a "variable reward schedule"- never knowing when an epic piece of gear will pop up, for example. As far as I can tell, this game doesn't incorporate this mechanic, and it's such a basic part of amusement - from slot machines to Pokemon- it breaks a cardinal rule. The second piece of science missing is that some basic physics like orbits (day/night cycles) seem to be missing. Besides just incorporating a randomizing element, how hard would it be to make the result follow some basic laws of physics? Of course then you'd be searching for years to find ONE planet that had life, but oh what a game THAT'D be! Expand

While I’m sure developer Hello Games is still tweaking things and perhaps even creating more content for No Man’s Sky, the current state of affairs is a strong one. This galactic opus still offers an infinite amount of content for those who want to lose themselves among the stars, but now also contains a concrete throughline that will satisfy a wider array of players. It can be irritating at times, but it’s also full of stunning moments and the satisfaction of building a virtual life among the stars. Four years after launch, it’s finally a journey worth taking.

The world of No Man's Sky is insanely vast and beautiful, but there’s nothing to do in it! There’s no goal, no destination, no ending, nothing!

While No Man's Sky is engrossing for the first few hours, repetition starts to set in and the proceedings grow dull. The developers stated that they plan to add significant features such as base building which could dramatically change the game for the better. There's a promising foundation present, so it's possible to envision a more substantial game down the line. As it currently stands, though, our excitement to cross the universe faded sooner than we expected.
