This game is a perfect example of hype, I look at the reviews and all the "critics" are really just sheep to afraid to say anything bad about a developer cause other developers won't invite them anymore if they get a reputation of not giving the review the developers want.

This game apart from the graphics is really no better than the free flash games out there, the planets may look a bit different but all your there to do is mine the same 6-8 materials , take pictures of forgettable creatures and plants and head off to the next place and do it all over again. The ships are generic, you could fly a cardboard box and it wouldn't matter as long as there is more inventory space than the last one you had. The questline is forgettable and the alien races don't matter either. No multiplayer either is lame, basically you connect to a server just to get content and interaction is non existant.

1). Tech demo impressive feat but is it actually fun to play? For me that's a no.
2). Pain in the backside resource juggling due to tiny inventory size!
3). Planets lack any real variety, same POIs on each one, creatures look very similar. 4). Full priced release! Should have been £20 tops imho on ps store. 5). Absolutely atrocious texture load-in. 6). Much better crafting/survival

In summary sounded like a great idea at the design stage and I must admit I was excited for it for a long time but the proof is in the pudding and I feel there isn't much of a game in there tbh.

I have earlier given this a high score. After watching countless videos and promises made by Sean, I won't even **** bother playing this game. This game could be SO amazing, but No Man's Sky seems like a social experiment on how many idiots would jump on the hype train. I feel like an idiot.

Ask yourself a question. Did you like Mass Effect's scam called "planetary exploration? Where you landed on a randomly generated square with mountains and ridicolous recources. Well, if you like that, go on and buy it. Because that is exactly what it is, randomly generated, utterly pointless sandbox that makes little sence and have no purpose. Some people want exactly that.

Extremely repetitive. The game completely fails to keep you engaged after the first 5 hours, which is a damn shame since those first hours were great. After that planets all begin to look the same, you recognize the same plants and animals with very minor changes everywhere and the unholy grinding of minerals is enough to drive you mad.

Those amazingly diverse planets we were promised, after a few hours in, all feel quite samey.
Had this game been released at half the price with half the hype I'd say it was a decent little experiment.
As it carries a AAA game price (in fact higher) and offers such limited gameplay and is missing promised features, I'd wait for a bargain bin or rent this title.

It's a pathetic game, nothing more to say. In the end is a bad game about explore a lot of planets without any interest. And it's important to remember that NO HAVE ON LINE MODE, They sell a game about the universe and find others players and there's no way you can do it, they lied and that deserves a 0 out of 10.

This one really is going to divide opinion. If you're one of the people over the last 12 months asking "but what do you actually **do** in No Man's Sky?", then this game is not for you. In fact, a lot of the stuff you're suggested to do in the game was really only added at a late stage, when the developers decided to try and market the game for a large audience.

In fact, a lot of the stuff you're suggested to do in the game was really only added at a late stage, when the developers decided to try and market the game for a large audience.

In terms of gameplay, think Minecraft, but without actually building (just the mining and crafting part). The discovery and scanning parts (and the general aesthetic) feel to me rather like Metroid Prime. And the broad concept (i.e. exploring a massive and realistically scaled universe) is pure Elite. You will get out of this game precisely what you put into it... there's nothing helping you along. There are a couple of ways in which you could theoretically "finish" the game... to be honest, I'm not in the least bit interested in that. In fact, I will actively seek to avoid it. I'm quite happy pursuing my own quest to translate the local alien dialect of the area in which my game started out, and getting the necessary keys to unlock some of the locked areas.

It really helps if you understand (and I mean **really** understand) just what the developers have achieved too... this will help you overlook the fact that the graphics are quite basic, and draw distances (when flying close to planets at speed) are frequently compromised by a weird dithering effect.

Also, you have to be forgiving where the developers have compromised real physics in favour of playability. Docking/landing your ship is basically done for you; gravity is depicted as per Hollywood movies (i.e. not related to the mass of objects), some of the "things" from which you get "elements" are quite illogical and space itself is bizarrely blue & pink... never black. This is very much SciFi with the emphasis on "Fiction".

So... not realistic enough for anyone expecting Elite; way too open-ended for the majority of video game players. Who is this going to appeal to exactly? The answer is right here in the Metcritic reviews.

NMS needs to be patched ASAP; Crashing every time I warp, creatures half trapped on the ground, need bigger stacking on every slot on inventory, better spaceship handling, better space fights, and the most important of all KEEP MY SAVED FILES ALIVE!!! i have restarted this damn game twice because my save file its "corrupted".

The only problem with it is that Hello games lied about a lot of really cool features. I hope this game gets updated and gets new features, but for now, I think it's really fun. 8/10

My problems arise from some less common issues, but I still am annoyed by all those flaws that other people adressed, like inventory space, and the lies of the devs. Heres what I think.

My problems arise from some less common issues, but I still am annoyed by all those flaws that other people adressed, like inventory space, and the lies of the devs. Heres what I think.

    Pros:
Cool soundtrack, Nice colour palate, a cool translation system where you have to slowly learn new words to slowly find out what aliens are saying, and a spaceflight system that, while barebones, I rather enjoyed flying around huge planets in a vast universe.

    Cons:
    Okay, where to start.....
The developers pointed out countless times that this was a game about exploration, and discovering the unknown. Here's the catch: every single **** planet and solar system has already been discovered. Each solar system has a space station, and every planet has spaceships flying around it and bases built on them. It completely defeats the **** purpose.
Planetary variation. The planets are criminally similar. Sure, they're different sizes, but there are only two types of planets; planets with a slight majority of hilly terrain, and planets with slightly more water and super shallow oceans. Maybe a few floating rocks here and there. Of course, the biomes and creatures are different, but that gets really old after awhile.
Draw distance. It doesn't look like I'm on a **** planet when it's always as foggy a certain distance away as London in the 1950s. You can't see any horizons. Its pathetic; it feels like I'm on some sort of **** test level, not a planet.
Space between planets. They're all extremely close together in a solar system, making it unrealistic.
Warp drive fuel. To get fuel for your warp drive you have to mine stuff to get stuff to make one thing, then mine some more stuff to make another thing that requires the previous thing, then **** BUY an object from a galactic trade terminal for a hefty amount of units, then mix the thing you bought with the things you previously used, add some other object, and there you have it; one warp drive fuel cell; enough to get to to the next Solar System over.
Deadlock. You need to mine resources to charge your multitool. But mining takes power. So you need to mine resources to charge your multitool. But mining takes power. So you need to mine resources to charge your multitool. But mining takes power. God, its a **** closed circle; you can't go anywhere with that.
Repetitive Elements. Mine **** Sell it. Mine **** Sell it. Mine **** Sell it. Mine **** Sell it. Mine **** Sell it. Mine **** Sell it. Mine **** Sell it. Mine **** Sell it. Fly around a little, warp to next solar system over, then do it again. Holy hell.

Theres plenty of other things I hate about this game that I can't think of right now..... how come I had to spend 80$ on this game while everyone else spent 60$? Is it just because of location? God.....
I have to say that I haven't had a SINGLE crash on this game on my PS4, and have only EVER had one or two framerate drops, so, mine performs fine..... but thats still no reason for anybody to waste their money on this piece of trash.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I feel like this game has lied to me in all those trailers and info that they gave me. They said you can travel to 18 billion planets or something but what they didn't tell us is that its 18 billion copies. When i enter a new system i feel like i just went around in a circle and ended up in the same area, every system contains the same old same, just a few planets a space station and some other things. Its just very boring, i don't mind grinding in a game but when i feel like there is no reward or purpose to grind for its just a waste of time. I feel like this is absolutely not worth 60 bucks. I think people with a lot of imagination might find some fun in it but for me its just not at all what i hoped for. The game also does not explain anything in the beginning so you basically don't have any idea what it is u gotta do. After 20 hours you're doing exactly the same as in the first hour and probably at the end of the game u pretty much have been doing the same all the time. The planets don't feel different at all, some planets might be a bit different but the only thing that is different is the colours and some animals. I probably won't be playing this game anymore because it just feels like a waste of time. Overall i think people that expect a huge game with all kinds of different worlds are going to be disappointed. Expand

Much hype about nothing, a disappointment, a game so buggy that perhaps deserved to be published only as early access.

I managed to play ten minutes maximum before the crash, a tutorial beginning ... and not even seem bad!
A mix of resources research, crafting and exploration ...

Under these conditions € 60 is not worth it, maybe 15 for early access as a beta would be more honest.

No Mans Sky is a great, big, colorful and fantastic canvas for a game that hasn't been painted yet. Unfortunately the reviewers who state this game is nothing more than a tech demo are sadly correct. This is a game where the limited imaginations or poor planning or ineptitude are apparent at every turn. The fact that it is ALMOST a game is disapointing and it is more akin to the recent wave of indie developed walking simulators and resource gathering snoozefests that have plagued the "indie" genre for some time now. As of writing this review there is just not all that much or that interesting do or to have taken part. The premise of No Mans Sky is brilliant and it works for moments so brief and fleeting, in between an ocean of inventory management, repetition and cosmetic palette swaps.

By far the best and most interesting parts of the game are really hidden, non existent or barely a part of No Mans Sky. Upgrades and different multi tools and ships were supposed to be meaningful and unique. Ships boil down to just a random mush of interchangeable ugly parts. Upgrades can all easily be earned without much effort or searching early in game. Landing on a gold mine planet is all too common and really hurts the early game progression system.

Some of the most awe inspiring moments were some of the most dissapointing. I had landed on a planet and realized its sun would create an eclipse in a few minutes. Standing there holding my binoculars and staring into the sky, I watched and waited. Taking screenshots of the first moments of the eclipse were amazing and awe inspiring. A double eclipse seen perhaps for the first time. Where two planets block out one star in the same place at the same time. As I waited and watched the final minutes of sunset and eclipse I watch the darkened crescented planets hover in the twilight sky realizing most everything the developers said about this game was a lie. These planets would always and forever create an eclipse here in this very spot. The planets, stationary and inanimate. These were not living breathing planets or solar systems or galaxies.. They did not truly rotate, or orbit, or have true ecologys or biomes. These stars could never truly be reached. And the house of cards and all of the walls and illusion that was No Mans Sky collapsed. All in one eclipse. For me it was a look into the heart of how a game is created and perhaps perception itself. For all the things that should be learned from this game is that the reality is only real to the unaware perciever of the illusion. And perhaps reality itself just an illusion, like the word "game" in space game.

No Mans Sky truly has a few unreplicable moments and grand moments. These moments unfortunately allow you to see the infinite walls for what they truly are, barriers.

+ Truly unique and almost perfect spacecraft flight.
    + True Open world.
    + Moments of awe

-Very limited crafting and upgrading systems
-Almost nothing to do but sightsee.
-No real cutscenes other than the endgame cutscene or real story mode.
-No variety in planet types (No ringed planets, no biomes, no gas planets, no planetary or cosmic phenomena other than black holes which are almost useless most of the time.)

Overhyped Indie-Game by the Press. The graphics looking worse, the performance is terrible - the price is to high and it has to less gameplay functions. No real Multiplayer !

This Game is not worth $60... maybe $15 or something.

Played it at launch. Like all others, I soon realized that there is almost nothing to the game compared to what was promised. It gets boring and repetitive fast, and everything in the game just starts to look the same. Yes, there is now more content, but the game does not feel improved and the core experience remains the same as it was. Too little, too late & it was not enough to motivate me to play more after the extended break. If anything, it now reminds me of an early access game that never gets finished. This sort of mess belongs on Steam Early Access. I hope this is not a sign of things to come for the PS4. This sort of practice does not belong in the AAA title section at full price at launch. Let me be clear that I just bought this game, and knew about the original false advertisement debacle, but decided to give it a shot anyway based on YouTube vids saying it is now worth a shot, it is not.

The game is an absolute rotting corpse of glitches. It's been 3 years, and you can play games made on steam in early access with 1/50th the money that look better and have none of the game breaking bugs. Some of my own include: the entire farming system is broken (plant growth timers reset to full every 5 seconds, making farming, a major aspect of the game undoable), constant falling through the map, instant death upon exiting craft (>10 occurrences), enemies attacking through walls, animal enemies biting/killing you from the other side of the map, random total loss of inventory items, map markers that lead nowhere, quest starts which don't trigger, crashing and constant ugly visual issue such as planet corona shining through starship walls. In a game built by massive pansies who didn't want it to be about killing/combat (guns and violence are yucky and mean!) and whos procedural generation leaves you with bland boring planets, the only option for fun is survival gameplay. These glitches make survival (where you loose items you spent hours on) and permadeath mode impossible. I have a brand new PS4, they have had 3 years to fix issues, its absolutely inexcusable.

As I said earlier, the "exploration" based gameplay is worthless. I have consistently encountered the same plants/features/animals in different color schemes on a vast number of worlds. Animals bumble around no further than 25M from the player before popping out of existence, and nothing about them appears lifelike. You'll never find them pooping, eating, mating, sleeping, fighting, NOTHING. For a game based on exploring the "wonders of the universe" and not combat, again, you would expect giving you something to look at instead of shoot at would be a priority, but, nope. Similarly, the resource gathering is the same on each planet, you'll find a different colored stone for metal, a different tree+bush for carbon, while every other element is sourced from identical plants which have somehow managed to colonize every planet in the galaxy.

Space once you reach it, exhibits the same lack of variety. Stations are universally featureless ball or block shapes, combat is stale and pointless. Planets have exterior appearances which don't match their surface (water from space on desert planets, etc). Fleets are bland and contain THE SAME 5 SHIPS IN DIFFERENT COLOR SCHEMES. Absolutely pathetic. Pilotable starships have about 20 base models with slight variations, but all fly/feel identical, the only difference being +/- 5 storage slots. Fleet battles show in the "is NMS now worth buying" vids are total BS, after 3 years they still don't exist, just minor fighter battles (>4 fighters at a time) with fleets shooting out canons in all directions for scenery, doing no damage.

Finally the grind is insane, and for no point. The story is a pathetic afterthought, and the lack of coming across more than 1 player means its not even worth it for swag/bragging rights. You're going to go through MMO tier levels of grind, with no story or social recognition payoff. If running around pointing your impotent little multi-tool at different colored version of the same tree/rock for hundreds of hours to build up a base maybe 5 people will ever see, more power to you and your autism, but its not my or any normal persons idea of fun.

Overall this game still holds the title of being the most colossal gaming failure of the 2010s. Edgy contrarians and paid youtube shills will have you believe otherwise, but the game is a lifeless, empty, buggy mess, devoid of meaning or fun. Still selling for 60$ is perhaps the biggest joke of all. If you gave this out for free, maybe 1/100 people would come even half way close to finishing it or giving it more than a few hours before downloading.

as someone who spent 60 USDs on this, i learned the hard way to never go digital unless we're talking serious sales, the game at the current state of it (and honestly, i'd say at foreseeable future) is worth $25 at maximum.

when you've expected a vibrant world you're hit with the staticness of it, the crushing loneliness makes for some terrible game, some may call it a "relaxing" experience, but i don't, there is nothing of character in the entirety of the game, everything and everyone you meet is as boring as the rocks you'll mine for iron, i tried to make my own fun by learning the languages of the races (one of very rare pros) but that got old quickly once i learned that it takes more than 400 words for each race (3+ atlas), something even the game recognizes by giving you the top rank in this category at about 250 words, interloper.

to add to an already broken game, if you've seen a water planet, a rock planet, garden world and an ice planet, you've seen it all now.

for now, the only thing you should do to this game is a) stay away from it if you know about it (75% of those who may read this) or b) wait for a good sale (50% at least) before getting a copy, and NOT DIGITAL, you'll grow tired of it before you know.

That’s actually fine. No problem there. The problem is when they spawn you and you get in to your ship and try to get to the objective… even if you are holding down boost until your finger starts to hurt, the time to destination actually slows down and starts going up. That’s right, your grave and the objective point are both moving away from you. On the planet…. As you are going top speed towards them. Needless to say I never got there. Like an idiot I held on for 8 minutes with the timer not going down and never getting to the place I died. Immediately shut the game down and uninstalled. Story wise everything kind of makes sense in this universe when the revelation bombs hit. Though the story and/or the copy/paste side missions is not what drives my interest in this game.

The Developers give you a lot of cool fun unlock-able stuff to mess about with on land, in underwater and in space. The main personal carrot on the stick is all the researching and chasing after new tech or rare/exotic gear/equipment. All to the backdrop of looking at colorful vibrant worlds while listening to the great in game soundtrack. The game does offer other things like mining, base building, trading, bounty hunting, fleet management, farming, pets and cataloguing.

The game is far from complex or deep. Pretty easy to pick up and put down on normal difficulty and not much of challenge. It does have survival mode which is not even that hard ( perma-death as of yet to be tried ). This a pretty chill laid back gaming experience for sure. Took my mind of the Pandemic BS for sure.

2021 Updates have tanked the frame rates. PC and Console gamer hey developers no excuse not to put graphical and effects slider bars/toggles in the console versions. Which consoles games tend to run worse anyway, because they don't have beefier or upgradable tech. WTF is this 20-25 FPS crap?

Game comes with in built VR. The pixelation is alll pretty bad and the planets in space didn't look very VR. The VR cockpit was pretty cool, but not as amazing as Infinite War cockpit. After trying several different VR games the motion sickness has finally gone. Still with all that plastic and rubber on the head? Head overheat happens pretty quicky. Yeah even when using a massive floor fan to try and counter it. Maybe I need to use PS/VR in the winter or something?

    Mi puntuación sobre No Man's Sky es de 3, me explico;

A game is supposed to entertain or at least be exciting ! OK some nerd out there will like it (spending hours and hours just for 1 objective). It's NOT straight forward, you have to mix the resources together to make something else useful. Then you repeat repeat repeat until you have 4 things useful THEN you mix the 4 things useful to make something that works. All with virtually no guidance or instructions. But to be positive to the producers of this game, its on a massive scale and would (if you had a few months spare) be a lifes time work. You'd probably feel very proud if you made it into space. Seen a planet, seen the rest, because other than color or orography, in all of them you will find the same plain and static intelligent alien species that tell you something irrelevant and give you some blueprints to build an enhancement for your equipment, you will learn alien languages from cylindrical monoliths, scan animals, harvest resources to make the aforementioned enhancements or to feed your suit and ship energy needs. No motivation via an engaging story or interesting side quests, nothing, just follow the mysterious signal, go to the center of the galaxy. Expand

The game is pretty dull and repetitive. The best feature is the exploration, but even then it is pretty average.

The various game mechanics are average at best and there are numerous time wasting gameplay (refining, piloting, excavating). I get the intent of giving a sens of grandeur to the entire world, but once you choose a destination and just travel for minutes, there kind of isn't any point to making it that long.

Anyway, even though the intent of the game is nice, I wouldn't recommend it, the implementation end up providing a somewhat dull experience.

Basically it was too lonely in my opinion. How can you explain no planet is filled with skyscrapers to the brim, or just why doesn't any planet have more civilization developed in it?

The designers could have crafted 5-15 beautiful and interesting planets with varied biomes. But instead we've got an infinite number of randomly generated planets, most of which inevitably wind up boring and empty.

So prepare to spend hours and hours and hours searching for a pleasant planet for your home base, only to find that once you've found one and started started building, you're in a constant struggle with your inventory size, the game's confusing mechanics, and refueling everything you own or use. Can't find a particular material on your planet? You'll have to fly off of yours, but oh wait no launch fuel. Oh wait no hyperdrive fuel. Oh wait can't find a planet with the material. Oh wait your mining beam is out of fuel. Oh wait you're out of storage space. It all feels much more tedious than in other survival games.

And once you've built your base, a couple cool vehicles, you realize - there's nothing of interest to actually be explored and there isn't much story to speak of. There are barely any threats to your health and safety, and the variations among different kinds of flora and fauna basically amount to: wow, a vaguely cow-shaped thing with longer legs than the last cow thing.

That's my 10-hr story with No Man's Sky. I tried. I really did. And I wanted to like it. Some people do find this infinite randomly generated space exploration thing interesting. But for everyone else, go play Subnautica, The Forest, Conan, Ark or The Outer Worlds, Mass Effect, Astroneer - really any other survival or space game instead.

I have been playing NMS for several years now and always find new things to do. Started on PS4 now on PS5. Been enjoying the expeditions recently. Love base building and have several almost maxed out at 30,000 object bases.

This game does not have an option to inver X-axis camera control, which means I can't properly control the camera, aim etc, thus this game is virtually unplayable. I've heard that Hello Games put a lot of effort in turning NMS into a proper game after disastrous launch, but it seems they decided to tell people who prefer a certain controll scheme to screw themselves.

While I’m sure developer Hello Games is still tweaking things and perhaps even creating more content for No Man’s Sky, the current state of affairs is a strong one. This galactic opus still offers an infinite amount of content for those who want to lose themselves among the stars, but now also contains a concrete throughline that will satisfy a wider array of players. It can be irritating at times, but it’s also full of stunning moments and the satisfaction of building a virtual life among the stars. Four years after launch, it’s finally a journey worth taking.

The world of No Man's Sky is insanely vast and beautiful, but there’s nothing to do in it! There’s no goal, no destination, no ending, nothing!

While No Man's Sky is engrossing for the first few hours, repetition starts to set in and the proceedings grow dull. The developers stated that they plan to add significant features such as base building which could dramatically change the game for the better. There's a promising foundation present, so it's possible to envision a more substantial game down the line. As it currently stands, though, our excitement to cross the universe faded sooner than we expected.
