Game is fantastic the best parkour game in first person, frosbyte did a good job with this, and i love the free run style there, not many bugs, only need some few fixes, but this still excellent choice for pass a good fun moment.

Mirrors Edge Catalyst is a prequel to the original game,
This tells the origins story of faith and her sister
It starts out with faith being released from imprisonment and getting back to her runner ways…
This is a bit of an open world game…which after a few hours you’ll realize this was a huge mistake…
In this open world there are collectibles and side missions to do…
But for the most part this open world is just a parkour time waster in between your missions…
Every mission for the most part feels the same…
Climb through vents, run past bad guys..
    rinse repeat…
Because this is an open world.. every obstacle and path on the way to every mission is the same turning this into a repetitive grind to the credits…
There are fast travels points, but they can only be unlocked after you hack certain points in the city.. and even before then you have to earn enough xp to unlock a skill or be far enough in the story to have the skill to reach these hackable spots…
making me believe that the developers actually wanted you to grind through the same sections over and over…
And the parkour is just not fun…
it feels way too slow, like faith is a jogger rather than a runner…
And none of the wall climbs or jump every feel satisfying and will sometimes feel like they aren’t working properly…
Which leads to many deaths in this game…
I rarely ever felt like dying was my fault…
And unfortunately the checkpoints in this game are some of the worst I’ve ever seen
The worst of all though is this games combat...
speaking of worst ive ever seen
The combat in this game is the most garbage and cheap feeling system I can remember suffering through…
you have a light attack and heavy attack..
Meanwhile enemies have batons, guns, and tasers…
The batons and gun enemies aren’t too bad to deal with… but the taser guys block every light attack even when you could have clearly got a strike, leading you to have to spam the triangle button to defeat them,
having to resort to spam attacks in combat is never a good sign…
And there are a handful of sections where you have to defeat waves upon waves of enemies…
And these taser guys are bullet sponges so if you focus on them you’re going to get shot or if you focus on the gun guys you’re going to get shocked…
and once you do finally luck your way to the final waive… if one hidden enemy decides to start shooting while you take on who you think is last and they kill you,
you have to start all the way from the beginning of the encounter…
I really wanted to like this game..
But I’m not even sure if its developers liked this game
because ultimately it feels like it was built as a job and not as a passion...
    I give Mirrors Edge Catalyst
    a 6/10

The people who say the combat is bad seem to be the same people who don't know how to play. The combat in this game requires you to experiment with the environment to take down your enemies, it's not about you just standing there and you punching enemies until they fall down one by one. I've seen a bunch of people on Youtube do this and it's honestly really cringeworthy. Visuals are beautiful, soundtrack is amazing, some of the characters like Plastic and Icarus were great and memorable.

But the thing that really stands out is the incredible and jaw dropping parkour. It's not like in Assassin's Creed where you just push a button to climb and that's it. This game has a lot of emphasis on parkour, you actually need momentum and timing. The only flaw I can agree with is the story. It's not "horrible", it's just kind of lame and cliche.

One last thing i'd like to point out is that I highly recommend playing this game without hud on. All you need is the your stamina and health bar. Disable the useless enemy health bars and that stupid combat reticle thing. Also disable the runner vision, only use it whenever you're lost. Don't know what EA was thinking when they decided to put this much hud into a Mirror's Edge game.

There you go, an honest review. It's like an 8/10. I'm convinced the people that are bashing this game haven't even played it and just go by what other people say.

This game feels like a monotonous slog through the glass city where each mission has me repeating the same path to reach my destination...zzzzzzzzz! After completing a few main quest missions I soon realized that I was blazing though the main quest (its only 6 hours long...WTF!!!) so I felt compelled to do some side missions in order to make the game experience last longer. This wouldn't be a bad thing if the side missions had any depth to them but they are boring, one-dimensional turds. The combat element is just plain forced and stupid. I'm supposed to combine my parkour with combat maneuvers to deliver some awesome fighting sequences but in reality, I just stand toe to toe with the enemy and kick them until their health meter expires. Rarely does the game give me the opportunity to combine parkour with combat skills. And what's with the new Focus 'shiled' that protects Faith. I gain my shielding by continuously moving around but if a stop (like in combat) it disappears rapidly. So lame.

Conclusion: save your money and don't buy this game.

This game delivers! Parkour at its finest. I happen to like the story and I'm good with the acting. I never played the original so I have nothing to compare it to but for me, there is a huge replay value in this.

I have to say, I really loved this game and definitely intend to keep playing to finish off all the little delivery quests and have been having tones of fun making time trials and competing with the people who run through my courses. This game, is so significantly better that the original that I was lost for words. It like they elegantly streamlined everything good about the original game, and added a few cool things to an already perfect moveset! I really love everything to do with the new movement system and was surprised to see it better tuned still after the version from the beta! And the combat, while much more simplistic and generally incredibly easy, especially once you get all the upgrades, was much better by virtue of you being an mostly skip it, and have no gunplay options anymore, because Faith is a much more capable fighter now so when you do fight, you hard and quick and move on. And moving on is what I was often most excited to do. The environments were really quite interesting, and obviously beautiful, and to be able to have so many hidden goodies tucked away in the, and to have so much freedom in the traversal of said areas was sublime. I won't say the game is perfect by any means, as it still has odd bugs while loading on the fly while you were running around what parts of glass you were actually able to explore. I must say, the map is much smaller that it seemed upon first glance, and that's not necessarily a bad thing as traversing all of it on foot makes it feel significantly larger! Also, I had expected that the underground had more too it, so it was disappointing that it was so small. And furthermore, the music was just not terribly impactful. It was functional, but nowhere near as good as the first game. I get that they were going for a sort of ore procedural mix that adapted to play different loops at different times and fade in and out layers of sound, but it just didn't capture me at all like the first game's music did. I guess I'm glad the jukebox is in the Zephyr transit hub then. X3 Anyways, the story, for me, was good. Nothing astounding and so called the personal family twist upon capture of someone who upon first glance was clearly not who they appeared to me. Anyways, I'm so satisfied, cause there is so much more depth and universe building in this story, that unlike the first where I could never imagine a direct sequel to spawn from, I can easily see a sequel being made to follow this game! There are so many interesting possibilities, and I loved and am still loving digging around for more recordings and documents, and listening in on newscasts and loudspeaker announcements to try and glean more about Glass and Cascadia, and Omnistat as well. I can easily see other games moving into other nearby regions while also possibly digging further into Glass itself. In summation, I feel like Catalyst is Mirror's Edge in all ways, and a successful and poignant example of what a good reboot can do to give a franchise a large dose of life and potential it never had before. Simply put, I have Faith in Dice, and I eagerly hope that the game is the Catalyst that brings about another Mirror's Edge game. Run and flow! Expand

As a fan of the original Mirror's Edge, Catalyst is just what I wanted. Not to say there aren't faults, because many of the faults from the original carry over to Catalyst. Some things are improved, such as combat and story, but are still not great.

The combat thankfully removes the option to pick up weapons, and instead forces you to use melee and your momentum to fend off others. Most of the time, this works as intended, and it feels great pulling off moves, eliminating enemies, then continuing to run without losing your momentum. At some points, this doesn't work as well though. For some odd reason, once or twice the game forces you to stay in an arena type space and eliminate enemies. This makes you stop momentum and have to clunkily fight enemies and sometimes running away for cover while you regain your health back. These parts aren't horrible, but they go against what the point of Mirror's Edge is, which is to keep your momentum and keep on running. These moments are few and far between, but they make me wonder why DICE would even put these in the game.

The story, while not amazing, improves upon the original with a few memorable characters and events. I won't spoil anything, but the plot isn't completely predictable, and while I think the plot could've been on a bit of larger scale, it was still enjoyable and didn't make the experience any worse. If you really don't care about the story, luckily you can skip all cut-scenes if you wish. Again, no spoilers, but the ending was a bit anti-climatic and made me hope for some DLC of some sort finishing up some unfinished subplots.

At first, I thought the open world was a bad idea. It has a lot of space, but much of it is fluff, and it could've lended itself to less than spectacular level design. As I played through the main story, I figured out that this wasn't really the case. DICE still implements great level design, while allowing more space to explore the city. The user created races make sure this expansive city doesn't go to waste either. Anyone can create their own race, and challenge friends or randoms to beat their time. My only real problem with the open world is that it feels empty. There are random people standing on rooftops that will wait literally forever for you to complete their task, but other than that there really aren't many other people. Most buildings you explore are also empty and don't really show what their purpose is other than to look like an extremely modern, empty Ikea. While this obviously doesn't impact gameplay, it just shows the downfalls of the open world.

While story missions are not timed, mostly everything else is: side missions, dashes, user created races, etc. Most of these you will have to replay many times to really get the hang of them and find the fastest route. This is what the original was all about, and this game stays true to that. In many ways this game feels closer to a racing game than anything else. Playing a track over and over just in an attempt to beat your friends, get higher on the leaderboard, or earn all three stars. And there is basically an infinite amount of this to do because of the open world and user created races.

The parkour mechanics are only improved from the original. Everything feels smoother(partially because of the jump from 30 to 60fps), and extra moves have been added to allow you to always keep moving, and fast. Gadgets such as the magrope fit perfectly with Mirror's Edge and allow you to better traverse the city without it being overused. The default controls are mostly the same as the original with a few extras because of the new movements and fighting skills. There is also an alternate control scheme if you want to stay more in line with modern first person shooters, although I generally would discourage this control scheme as it can make the game a bit more difficult. The newly added skill tree was never really a problem for me. Much of it is unlocked at the very start, and the few moves from the origninal game that aren't can be unlocked very quickly. You just have to remember that if you want to be breaking any world records for dashes, you need to have nearly all movement skills unlocked.

I also encountered some slight techinical problems on the PS4. Throughout the 15 hours or so I have put into the game, it has crashed once. On PS4 there are also times where there will be noticeable pop-ins that can take you out of the game a bit.The frame rate will also drop a bit at times, but it only drops enough to be noticeable, not to ruin your gameplay.

Overall, if you are a fan of the original, I definitely think Catalyst is worth buying at $60. If you thought the first had potential, but didn't love it, I would probably wait for Catalyst to drop $20 or $30. If you hated the first, you will probably still hate this one. Catalyst is more of the same with many small improvements, but as a fan of the original, that's just what I wanted.

Game play is repetitive in the worst way, the combat is unreasonably hard in some places, and the story can be guessed very easily! Another huge disappointment is the open world; I thought it'd be awesome but I found it very tedious to have to walk back and forth across the map 30 or so times just for the main missions.Fast travel would be fantastic!

Overall I cannot recommend this game at this price, period. Wait for a sale for like $20 or so. It's a shame, really it is.

In contrast, the setting for catalyst is outlandishly sci-fi with overwhelmingly complex and abstract shapes and colors commonly seen in Space Sci-fi setting. It makes the whole setting so generic and not relatable.

Even the music in this game misses the mark in my opinion. Even though solar field is back for this game, it felt different from the last. The first game had a sense of sadness yet nostalgic and hopeful, silence, peace, sterility. A prime example is the "intro theme song" and "The Shard". This soundtrack for Catalyst just sounds too much like generic sci-fi and the theme song sounded like something out of an indie playlist. Very generic and anti-climatic. The game in general does not capture the spirit that the stole the hearts of gamers all over the world.

Presentation of the story and characters is nothing special, but still a huge step up from the original's esurance ad cutscenes.

City looks to be packed with junk to find, jobs to complete and lil glowy orbs to collect. Not ordinarily a fan of collectibles, but as a means to engage the creative routes through the city, they work.

Looks like the overall experience of this game will be seeing the whole city, going everywhere and doing everything, rather than perfecting the route through the small levels of the original. So quantity over concise quality. But hey, more Mirror's Edge is all I ever wanted!

Now, EA killed another great game that I really loved, the game is full of NPCs, that kill the feeling of being alone on a enormous city, I just hated this, the characters are just... bleh... it seems like another generic video-game, same with the history, at least, they kept the building and areas design I loved, but... that's all.

After this, I'll just unistall the game from my PS4, and it will be on my library as another franchise-killer, I hope we'll get another Mirror's Edge "1" like game soon, if not, you'll better stick to the original one, an avoid this game.

Baffled by negative reviews. Not a masterpiece, but far from awful. Decent narrative. Decent combat. Decent mechanics. Stunning audio & visuals. Vastly improved movement. A worthy successor to the original and a promising start for a new series.

Disappointment of the decade. Awful lifeless characters, Awful level design, Awful story, Awful combat mechanics,.. But it looks graphically really good (if we forget that face and head design of the characters is very unnatural and inhumane) and it sounds fairly good. Open world stuff is just huge wasted potential in this game because it isn't properly being utilised. But oh god, the architecture of the city and graphics are so good. Expand

This is a very boring game... an extremely boring game... one of the most boring games that I have ever played. The first person parkour is good for like the first hour but gets repetitive very quickly. Each and every mission in this game has you free running from point A to point B and then maybe free running again to point C. And when it asks you to take on a bunch of guards it's even worse because of the god-awful combat. The story is easily the game's weakest point because the writing feels it was done by some emo teen who's high on some really strong substance. Voice acting is as average as you'd expect, in fact the only good bit is the side quests which offer some unique challenges similar to the first game.

So basically the whole revolves around just one concept and that is parkour, and doing that for extended periods of time leads to pure insanity because it's just so monotonous. And even if you are okay with repetitive free running, having all the best moves locked behind a progression tree just sucks. Bad design choices are evident everywhere as you play this game so just don't.

This game is a perfect example of how to f*** up an awesome concept. This sequel is worse than its predecessor in almost every way. Thanks EA, great job as usual.

A worthy successor to the first game in every way imaginable.

The gameplay is fantastic, the score by Solar Fields is just stellar, and the narrative's great. Great gameplay mechanics that keep every action interesting and the combat gripping. The audiovisual production is just incredible, too. The city looks absolutely fantastic.

I think, it's exactly what the fans waited for in the last 8 years. Who likes moving in an open world and can dispense with a long epic story and a huge amount of side quests will absorb this game in every way and will have lots of fun with it.

While there’s nothing else out there that can deliver the thrill of racing across this vast city and scaling massive buildings using insane parkour techniques, the sense of wonder isn’t as strong as before. Catalyst is held back by a horrendous combat system and a lackluster story that takes itself too seriously. If you can get past its flaws, you’ll find Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is still a modest platformer.

Catalyst is an example of how bigger doesn't always have to mean better. Some games don't benefit from becoming an open world adventure and should stick to what worked well, even amazing in the original. Catalyst unfortunately, traded quality for quantity.

The game's huge assortment of side missions and time trials, along with Gridnode runs, represent its most appealing offerings as you hone your route and - for the most part - focus on nothing but running. [Issue#296, p.108]
