    The most unplayable madden I’ve ever experienced and I’ve played every single one since ‘06. They continue to ignore what the fans want and have become the most money hungry branch of EA. You can’t have all these micro transactions AND a broken game. I usually keep madden on my system until the new one comes out, 21 was deleted 6 days after I installed. Trash as ****

    Let me start by saying that I really liked Madden 20 I thought it was a good step in the right direction for EA, although it didn’t fix franchise mode it had a lot of neat additions like Superstar KO and Face of the Franchise which let you play as a college team. So considering all that I was very excited for Madden 21 I was hoping it would take an even bigger step in the right direction but I hate to say this is definitely not the case. Everything is almost an exact copy and paste with new rosters. Franchise is still worse than Madden NFL 04 which came out 17 years ago. The only new thing they added was The Yard. I was very excited for this game mode, but it was a huge disappointment. It just feels like a worse version of Superstar KO. Speaking of Superstar KO it is exactly the same except that it added one new team to play as. Franchise, Exhibition, and MUT are also all exactly the same. Face of the Franchise is almost the same except they replaced the college teams from last year with new ones and this year it starts in the high school playoffs. The narrative is exactly the same that you come off the bench and know one knows who you are and win the game. The only difference is that it starts in High School instead of College. It added a lot of quality of life improvements and the presentation and gameplay feels a lot smoother but none of that justifies the $60 price tag when all of this should have been a free update for Madden 20. I also think that the main menu is worse than the one in Madden 20 I hate they way all the logos blend in with each other in that awful font when in Madden 20 all the game mode logos looked unique. This game doesn’t even have an opening sequence like past maddens. (Like how in Madden 20 when you first boot up the game you play the Pro Bowl) Instead when you first boot up Madden 21 you design your character for The Yard. This is extremely disappointing. So if you were thinking about picking this game up I’d recommend buying Madden 20, waiting a couple weeks for it to go on sale, or buying it used on Ebay in a couple months.… Expand

    After spending $100 on the deluxe and then $100 on a pack bundle, a week into the game I am bored because there is zero interesting content. This game has no soul. I don't even think the people who made it like football.

    Some good but one very bad glitch. About every 10 plays the screen goes white while the play is still going. I can’t see my players due to this. Never had this before. This occurs in franchise mode.

I downloaded the trial through EA Play and I don't know what I expected. This franchise has been the same series for 5 whole years. I'm tired. I'm not doing this anymore. I am a football player and a loyal gamer and have been a madden player since the age of 6 (1994) this is by far the most insulting version of the game yet. The franchise lacks detail and options to say the least. The gameplay is ugly, the physics are way off. I feel drunk playing this game. The animations are sloppy and the Ai has somehow gotten worse. This is a arcade game and a micro transaction nightmare.… Expand

    The game is way too cartoony and doesn’t resemble real football at all. Stretch zones and inside zones are OP and users don’t even have to throw the ball to have success.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Madden has gone off the deep end in quality and gameplay, who knew that using a game engine meant for first-person shooters is not very compatible with a football game? Here's my overview of each of the major game modes.

    MUT is EA's big moneymaker and yet they have botched the launch already with many of their loyal fans reporting MUT's servers kicking them off whenever they open a pack or not even receiving their players they pre-ordered. For something EA has shown a large amount of care towards, even putting what is basically ads in your game telling you to play MUT, is absolutely broken.

    The Yard is a good idea on paper and if this was executed better I would be saying praises of it, but like I said earlier, first-person-shooter engine. The game mode, of course, has micro-transactions within it for gear and equipment for your avatar. The biggest slap in the face is the mouthguards, which EA has repeatably said they "Don't have enough resources for". It is only available in the yard with some of them behind a paywall.

    Face of Franchise has the most bogged down, cheesy, nonsensical story out there. Not to mention that bad gameplay. Seriously, even if you get 700 yards as QB in the College National Championship, a guy with a HEART DEFECT still gets your starting job forcing you to change positions to be a Wide Receiver or a Running Back or entering the Draft. The storylines are a nice change, but some make absolutely no sense. Sometimes, I wish we had Madden 18 Longshot back, at least the story was half good.

    Superstar K.O. is back, cool I guess? (Obligatory first-person-shooter engine reference) It's not bad, but EA decided to spend their time doing this instead of fixing the gameplay or Franchise mode, making this more of a waste than actual fun.

    Oh boy, Franchise mode. How do I even start? Franchise Mode is the bread and butter of many Madden games from the PS2-PS3 era and as a former Madden 06 fan, it's an absolute shame to see what EA has done to it. If you get a hashtag like #FixMaddenFranchise number 1 in the country during a time of civil unrest and protests on Twitter, You done screwed up. EA basically "added" what is equivalent to patch notes only because they had to due to the new playoff system that the NFL. Most likely if the new playoff system didn't pass, the only thing they would of changed would be adding the new X-Factor players and UI. Franchise Mode used to be the main source of income due to it's dynamic and fun gameplay, but the discovery of MUT ruined this once great mode. It's barely been updated since Madden 13, the relocation teams are the same since Madden 25, and the only new thing they added would be customizable draft classes, but scouting is the same, boring, drab, annoying thing that it is despite this update.

    Gameplay you might ask? Don't get started on the gameplay, just watch any of RyanMoody21, SoftDrinkSports, or even RBT's videos on the gameplay for an explanation. My main gripe with the gameplay was instead of fixing the excess fumbling by mobile QBs (i.e. Russell Wilson, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen) from Madden 20, they added the most cheese X-Factor "Truzz" which while it is active you cannot fumble. Instead of fixing the issue, they just slapped an X-Factor on it and called it good despite the fact that there are still Russell Wilson and Josh Allen-type QBs out there that are fumbling like nobody's business. QB's sliding is to prevent injury, not to prevent fumbling. Even the horrid commentators comment on this by saying "He's going to get an A++ on that play for sliding, protecting himself" (They say that line about 20 times per game) X-Factors shouldn't be just cheese like not being able to fumble or get intercepted. It should be an increased level of play, which is why Blitz Radar and Pro Reads are my favorites because they aren't overall overpowered, but aren't complete freebies like Gambler or Truzz either.

    This is not good football, and if you keep spending money buying the game/micro-transactions within the game, EA will not have any incentive to actually fix their game. All we can do now is hope that 2K actually makes a good game in the meantime.    … Expand

    Stay away from Madden! Madden has been terrible for years. This is the last straw EA doesn't care about they’re customers. And specifically this game is the exact same game from the year before, only difference is one new game mode. Which is subpar and attempt to be like 2k it seems.

    So I have this game on pc and man is it bad. The only mode that I can actually get to work is just a regular play now game. And seemingly every five seconds I get disconnected from the EA servers( just like every other madden game in existence). The gameplay in madden 21 even feels way more scripted

    Madden however, it's a micro trans engine. It feels like a mobile game. Graphically it's bad for a 2020 title. Models look nothing like the players. Coach Rhule from Carolina looks like a demon wearing a skin suit. It's horrible. Controls are bad. Snap into a quick pass, my reciever catches it and gets stuck in the turf... okay. Snap, running play, CMC teleports through both lines and gets a free TD. Try playing Ultimate mode, and unless you want to drop a ton of money into fake card packs with bad drops, forget being competitive. It's pay to win. Numerous instances of Madden 2020 logos and animation issues. It's just inexcusable, lazy. The character customization is just bad. All face models look like broken noses, have the developers ever seen a human? Mass Effect 1 on Xbox decade and change ago was better than this. Godfather on PC 20 years ago was better than this.

    MLB The Show has yearly updates, huge chunks of the game change year to year. Madden just sticks the new year stick on everything. I'm glad I checked in after 10 years, I won't be checking back in for 10 more.    … Expand

    as an indie developer I can say with absolute certainty that I would not protect this dumpster fire of a game if I had been forced to work on it.     Honestly i am so disappointed in EA. The lack of self awareness and just obvious greed is disgusting. I'm glad the players feel the same way to. Its a copy and paste game with horrible bugs that 19 didn't even have. No integrity whatsoever.

    No updates to franchise mode unless you like a new color scheme. NCAA 14 has a deeper game on PS3. The gameplay is improved from Madden 19 and slightly updated from 20. Other than that it’s embarrassing how little effort is put into the “simulation” aspect of this football game. Where they put the effort in is face of the franchise and in about an hour i was over it.

    playing this game made me want to kill myself #NFLDropEA, the gameplay is glitchy, sometimes the field isnt even painted, the AI is dumb as hell and the experience of the game is terrible

    By far the worst madden game EA has every put out. Save your money and just keep madden 20. This game is a glitch filled mess and I don't know how EA could possibly think this game was good to put out.

    Instead, the entire NFL simulation football experience has to be consistently downgraded to a side feature for yearly releases of EA's NFL branded pachinko machine micro-transaction marketplace. This is a weak arcade game at best.

    Yard and UT should be free-to-play releases. I didn't pay £60 to access the goddamn EA store...
    Think I'm being too harsh? Well on day one, do you want to buy a pair of blue shorts with a gold lightening strike down them and what looks like a golden pee stain down one leg? Great - that'll be £120 worth of EA points please... seriously...

    Hot garbage.

    Madden NFL 21 is another blatant recycling of last year’s edition of the „simulation“ of the American football. Sadly, most of the modes remained the same. Gameplay received a few minor tweaks, and in the end it still persists as a cash grab not worth anybody’s time.

    For NFL diehards, there remains hundreds of gaming hours at your disposal in Madden 21. These same diehards – much like players of EA’s NHL and Sony’s The Show – will be left with the impression they’ve played this game before, however.
