Great introduction of Final Fantasy into an open world game. The first half of the game is super chill, relaxing, and fun to play. The second half of the game/story feels like a different game than the first half though. It felt rushed and not very well put together. Not everything was explained.

I really enjoyed this game, story is a little convoluted but characters were great, and for me thats the basis of the game, fights were great, graphics were amazing, it was an enjoyable experience.

For example you can beat the crap out of an enemy with a weapon that said enemy is resistant against. That makes no sense. All in all the gameplay lacks any kind of depth.

Story: Its really an overly simplified story and pretty straightforward most of the time. However the story and especially the characters really lack the substance. And the characters arent really likeable either. Gladio is like a pregnant woman who's on her moodswings. I mean literally,on the mission of receiving the gods blessing he goes from "STFU U PIECE OF WHINY SH*T" to "I actually care deeply for you my love" in the span of 2 seconds. Ignis barely has any character in the base game and is only there to be the great tactician although he only states the obvious..."ignis,how should we infiltrate the base?" "Well,we should take them down 1 by 1...BUT,without them noticing" wow 10/10 mastermind right there. Prompto is...well I kinda like him but only because he has actual emotions, like he is the only one that gets proper character development in the base game. But the main character? Noctis? He is the worst of all,he is whiny, takes everything too seriously and just tries too hard to be HIP & "cool". Many people say he is like that because he has gone through much sh*t but thats not true, many things are literally granted to him. And I know that cloud from ff7 or squall from ff8 were emo-ish as well but at least they had a f*cking reason to actually be emo; cloud was literally mind-raped by an extraterrestial lifeform, fell into the earths core, fought another replica of the alien, got stabbed and pierced multiple times and was even a disabled person in a wheelchair and you call him emo? He at least has every f*cking right to be so. Same with squall,he had a reason to be the way he is,but noctis? He lived a royally comfortable life with no problems or challenges and even on his journey he seems to not even care for the world or his people. Hell he wasnt even enraged beyond chapter 3 after he found out his empire has fallen. Its not until the end that he cares, its like the writers thought to themselves "oh lets just put in a timeskip and call it 'character development'". The ONLY thing I can give credit for is that the main bad guy in the game is written so well, his lines are perfect, his voice so soothing and his character is so full of himself while being so dangerously evil. That is the only interesting character but honestly if they sticked to the original versus saga like how it was supposed to,then it'd have been much better imo. Again the story as well as the characters are pretty underdeveloped and its even worse if you followed the game faithfully over 4-6 years. Those faithful fans were promised a game with the versus saga but got a skimmed down version of something noone knows about or even asked for. Its a big "f*ck you" to every faithful follower who followed this game over at least 4-6 years.

Its kinda like getting promised to marry someone but you find out that your fiance cheated on you on the day of your wedding after so many years. Thats how I felt when I played through 15,betrayed and hurt as a longtime fan. And I'm only 19 years old so I'm not a cranky old dude either.

Final Fantasy XV is a beautiful game, with a rich and sensible story of growth, loss and responsibility, told with all the poetry the Final Fantasy series has ever been capable of. The brilliant narrative deliberately chooses to focus on the protagonist's point of view, drowning the player with empathy, while leaving the big political events out of focus, on the background. Final Fantasy XV also plays like a charm: its fast paced full action combat makes for an extremely fluid and satisfying experience, while the quality of the animations makes every little movement in the gorgeous open world feel just as fulfilling.
If you'll let Final Fantasy XV tell it's story, if you'll go with the pacing without planting your feet in it and demanding something else, if you won't pretend to know more about storytelling than the game's writers did, I guarantee you'll discover a game of rare beauty, a game packed with fun, a game that will leave its mark, full of great moments that you will remember forever.
It had some issues when it launched, meaningful (meaning they served the narrative) but unsatisfying holes in the plot, but they have since been fixed, beautifully fixed, so there's nothing preventing me from giving Final Fantasy XV a full score anymore.
Final Fantasy XV isn't perfect, there's no such game, but it brilliantly achieves to be a wonderful game, and an excellent ground to build the future installments of this everlasting franchise on.

Better than XIII, but not a patch on the classics, Final Fantasy XV has more than enough going for it both in the context of the franchise and as a 4th-gen RPG. The game takes brave risks with many aspects of the game and while some of these are worth the wager, some moves feel like a step backwards in terms of what we have come to expect from the long-running title.

The gameplay is good, with solid mechanisms and exhilirating combat. The skills system is actually deeper than I first thought, as are the amount of weapons and accessories available, but there is definitely something missing by shifting the game entirely to the action RPG category. For me, Final Fantasy XII was the sweet spot between turn-based and action RPG, and the move in XV abandons a wealth of tactical opportunities in lieu of pace and drama. Magic is useless, summons are randomly generated, most controls are automated and there is a severe limit on what you can do other that just smash enemies repeatedly with weapons. However, the Armiger system, warping, parrying and link strikes are fun and furious.

The open world gameplay is fantastic, and the sheer size of the map makes it truly feel like the roadtrip experience the designers went for. Yes, it's unfocused, but there's an amazing sense of scale and scope to the exploration in this game. I often found myself pursuing side quests, hidden dungeons and hunts for hours on end with not a bad word to say about them. The four main characters are the first in Final Fantasy history to not contain an insufferably annoying member, and I'd agree with the majority that the team dynamic is one of the game's selling points.

While the game is absolutely gorgeous sonically and visually, the story lacks the power to complement the world. I've seen all spin-off material and the story still confused me, to the point I didn't actually know why I was completing some main missions. There is a lot missing in a narrative sense, and what's there is OK, but the game definitely doesn't feel complete in this sense. I just wanted, and expected, more from the series built on its plot-driven experience. The lack of female playable characters was strange too, and could definitely have been incorporated with ease.

In general, I really enjoyed this game, but as a long-time fan, certain disappointments were all too apparent throughout. While combat is fun, it lacks depth. The characters are excellent, but their story is lacklustre. The pace is very erratic, but did allow for extensive camping, trekking, dungeon crawling, cooking, fishing, photography, racing, relaxing and more. Sections where plot was focused on were linear and rushed, and ultimately spoiled the last few hours of the game. The world is nostalgia-filled, glorious to behold, and breathtaking in detail, but I just felt there was something missing, and I think the back-seat story was this thing. Whereas Final Fantasy X has the ever-impending arrival of Sin, Final Fantasy IX had the existential dread of the meaning of "life" and Final Fantasy XII had the true spirit of odds-against rebellion, XV was very hard to fully immerse yourself in.

It's an odd game, on reflection, but certainly worth playing, as it has true glimpses of excellence.

    * Story: So many stuff were cut that its hard to bond with the characters, the story felt partly rushed and had many plot holes which lead me to the 2 of 3 DLCs. The DLCs were obviously made to milk the gamers, All Character DLCs should have been in the Base but instead we were forced to pay for Story relevant content as well as a Movie.

*Characters: like already said due to cut off content its hard to bond with most characters. Ther are so many characters with a lot of potential but didnt get a chance to shine like Lunafreya which is the most important Character besides Noctis since shes the Heroine and you wont get much to see of her. Some characters were cut off after seeing them once on screen or even never.

*Open World: Square Enix sure did a number on us here in decieving us having a huge world to explore which is a lie, the world we can explore doesnt have much content, sure if you like a hack and slay like rpg the you get it. All you can do is run around different areas after you unlocked them and kill Monster by just holding a single buttom, all dungeons you will find arent special or have any unique feel to it.

*Game-play: What iam most furious about is the Magic system, to be honest i tried it once and to see how it all works out and then i never even once used it, i fave no need for Magic which hurts myself and need to be recreated and grind-ed for certain effects after using it 5 times. The battle System is also a joke, simply pressing holding a single button and you get through the entire game.

In the end the whole game is simply trying to look like a great openworl RPG but the truth is, the game is still unfinished and Square Enix release bad DLC to convince you to working on that part but after over 1 year all i got is a half a**ed Game with a bad story bad game mechanics a hollow World and soon almost 100GB of Final Fantasy XV on my PS4.

    * For all trophy Hunters: this games is a nightmare cause it releases bugged or not proper developed DLC which makes it hard to get all trophies.

FINAL FANTASY XV is a game that has everything to make you happy. It has a open world, but also, has many linear moments due to story, and the story is VERY good at all. Escaping the flames of war, Noctis epic journey with his best friends is very real and deep. The battle system is so good and the game has the best dungeons in all FF series. I loved Princess Luna, she is so cute and strong.

The car can only be driven by the predefined routes and under the safety standards, you can not maneuver fun with it.

The combat system, although visually appealing,it's only press one or two buttons.

The relationships with the other characters are predictable and some cases terribly cheesy.

I expected a more mature character, with more attitude and not a spoiled child unable to react to the murder of his father.

I recommend this game, although if I may suggest you should wait for a sale of the FULL game which has the season pass, because that "extra" DLC (which should've been sold in the base game anyway) does give more coherence and interesting content, if any, to the story and game in general.

FFXV is a beautiful, expansive game with a lot of heart and easy to understand lore. The characters are deeply woven into the narrative, but it appears that they did a lot of people pleasing for the video game. They tried to give the Western audience the open world and the JRPG audience the narrative, which does not work for any JRPG title. I enjoyed running around the world, but I would have greatly preferred more depth to the other characters that were story driven and were not for DLC. To get the entirity of FFXV, you must watch the anime, the movie and play the game and DLC. For someone like me? A game like this can steal my heart, which is does down to its core but some people might not bother investing such time.

The battle system seems a little chaotic, I would have preferred a hybrid between FFXV and FFXIII where the characters don't need to be babied by you doing all the healing. I found the need for potions constantly to be really frustrating. There should have been a dedicated healer/magic character, but given the lore of the world it would have been Lunafreya, but they rob you of her in middle game.

I love the story, the gameplay and the adventure FFXV had to offer. It would have been a perfect score for me had their been a bit more development instead of open world shenanigans.

Sadly, if this wasn't a FF title, I'd actually give it a higher score despite it's flaws.

As for a FF title, it checks some boxes. That's it. There are chocobos but they are less useful since you have a car. Moogles are mentioned. They don't actually seem to exist in the world. Magic exists, but the use of it is not like in any previous game. There is no cure/cura/curaga spell. Hope you like spamming pots. There is a way to make a healing spell but your spells have a cooldown timer. Playing a mage isn't possible. Having a mage in your party isn't possible. The regular spell casting system of FF could have been in the game even with realtime combat because of the RTwP function. It would have worked wonderfully to issue commands to your casters. The AI is strong enough that that may not have even been necessary.

Summons are there but have been stripped of their coolness due to lack of ability to use them like in previous games. Most of the summons aren't in the game.

Side characters are very limited. Don't expect to have a dozen different characters come and go and come again from your party like in previous games. The additional characters that join your party are few and for very, very short periods.

I probably could go on and on. The combat and gameplay is overall fun, but it's a craptastic FF game. They gave up too much to make this realtime and open world, and I don't think they needed to.

I've rated this the way I have for one reason: the team at SquareEnix that supports FFXV has taken such a battering from players, and yet continue to try to do right by them. When's the last time a developer has done things at the detriment of their own bank account to try to make the fans happy? With such dramatic failures like No Man's Sky and Mass Effect: Andromeda getting nothing, I will happily give major props to this game.

Perhaps if I had played it for the first time when it first came out, I would have been of the same mind as many people here, but I came in just a few months ago, and I am so happy with this game. It's the first game I've cared about enough to play for long enough to reach platinum with it. And the fact that the good stuff keeps on coming.

Yes, the game could have been better, and it's sad to see what happened with Final Fantasy versus 13, but given how much I enjoy this game as it is now, it would be disingenuous of me to give it anything shy of a 10.

if you're on the fence, and this review caught your attention as you're trying to decide whether you want to hop on board with this game, do it and remember that this is a game to have fun with. Final Fantasy has been a trendsetter for decades when it comes to games, and they can't evolve without leaving concepts behind in favor of new ones. Keep in mind that they built this game as part of a complete universe, and that you WILL want to take in all other media to get a good idea of the story. Final Fantasy XV: Kingsglaive is something like $5 USD on PSN, and free if you're subbed to Netflix (right now). Final Fantasy XV: Brotherhood is free on YouTube. There's even a free sidescroller that's like the old days of 1990s gaming dealing with the main character's father on PSN.

The DLCs are story important, although you'll want to play those after you finish the main game if you're one of those sorts that hate spoilers. Episode Gladiolus and Episode Prompto are out, with Ignis coming in December. The upcoming multiplayer Comrades is supposed to be important to the story, as well, and so long as you have the Season Pass, all four of these are covered inside of it!

Yes, the devs have produced crack like the Choco-Moogle Carnival, and the Assassins Festival, but these two were/are free, and all in total good fun.

This is a game you're meant to have fun with beyond the main plot, and it does it well.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. FFXV is one of the most painfully average games I've played. This is coming from a person who isn't a hardcore FF fan or a casual player. I have very high expectations for this game to come out. The game trailers showed promise of what the game is like, but sadly, it'll only show like 98% what the game actually is when you play it.

First off of what the game's strongest downfall is the story. Nothing is wrong with a simple or complex story as long you able to show what is going on and able to understand it. This game has a simple premise of the story but sadly, the game fails when it comes to story-telling. Major conflicts usually have shown either off screen, read through papers, or have an NPC talk to you the situation that has happened. It's even worse that you have to watch the movie, the Brotherhood anime, and the DLCs to understand what is going on. They talk very little of the mythos in the game unless you have access to the internet to understand what is going on. The romance subplot is so forced that Noctis and Luna have zero chemistry; they're more like penpals than an actual couple that are in love. I suspect the game's story to be better than this.

The four main characters were okay. Except for Noctis, his friends lack backstories of what they have become before the game, even in the anime doesn't talk about their backstories much. They have very little character development that it's easily brushed aside. The boys weren't terrible, just lacking that they're basically cookie-cutter characters. The supporting characters don't have the same treatment of the main four. Luna is basically there to be a plot device that is destined to die and be Noctis' romantic interest that there isn't much to her personality except being a cardboard cut out. Ardyn's evil motives are questionable at best when you have to look up, once again, the internet. I would go on about the other supporting characters but it's going to be a long paragraph. Basically, the majority of the supporting cast are underrepresented.

The gameplay could've been better. The weapons you acquired are useless when you only use about 3-4 weapons that are to your liking on your weapon slot. The magic is useless that there's barely any difference when you make a damage on the enemy. Also, it hurts you and the members so there's no point of using them since the members are stupid to go through the pain of getting hit. Side quests are mundane chores that you have to go through in order to get some exp, gil, and some items. The car is one of the most annoying uses of transportation because either you (not really) drive to your destination or use quick travel, it doesn't matter, it's a long loading screen.

I think the only things that I like in the game are the graphics and the soundtrack. It's a beautiful looking game. The music is good. I do like the hunts too. But that's all I have very little positive things about this game, unfortunately.

I tried to be optimistic and wanted to like this game, but it's hard now. All this game is giving me negative feelings of depression, confusion, and anger. If people like this game, that's fine. I just wish that I could enjoy what they have. I feel like people will enjoy for the gameplay. If people want to play the game for the story, I suggest looking away as it's not really much of a story to be told.

FF XV is a mixed experience. I generally like it, but why can't I drive the car myself? The worst car driving in any game I ever played. The car drives by itself on rails, wtf. And you can't go off-road or as character can't even jump over a small fence. This destroyes almost any immersion for me.

Iris, Cindy, even Luna were never expanded upon and developed. Hell, if you skip some cut scenes you might not even know of Luna at all. Iris and Cindy get a couple of meaningless dialogues that show nothing about their emotions and relationship.

The open world: Even though its open world, it doesnt feel like one. The game is littered with gas stations that are identical, boring sidequests mostly involving you collecting or hunt something. The places although aesthetically pleasing, offer no story. They just are there for the sake of being an open world. And every time you want to travel somewhere far you have to 'drive' the regalia which feels like a loading screen.

The combat: The combat is very smooth and fun but at times it can be frustrating due to the awful camera. The camera would rotate crazily if you're in a dungeon or when you try to warp around and often enough its blocked by trees or other objects so you cant even see noct or the enemies. The dodging system doesnt work that well either especially when there are a lot of enemies. But overall it works fine and its really fun can be deep with different customizations.

The bosses and enemies: One of the best things about this game is the awesome enemies and bosses. Some of them having you fly in the air and doing aerial combat which is freaking sick. The bosses are epic and satisfying to fight with godlike music. Seriously the music makes the fight a million times better.

The boyz, camping and stuff: For the first half of the game, you're gonna spend majority of your time with the boyz fighting monsters, camping, taking photos, chilling in the regalia, fishing, ride chocobos, chatting, etc. This is actually the best part of the game in my opinion. It helps you see the emotional bond between them and its relaxing to play.

This game is trash. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS GAME.
Story is stupid, long loading screen, and moderate graphic.
Only good thing about this game is open world, and combat.

Game is garbage. The REAL meaning of "STUPIDITY" where devs CLEARLY put so much effort into making it to finally come up with this **** gameplay. At least make the controls responsive .. each time i want to interact with something I press X and Noct jumps instead! And btw Square F***ing Enix, who said that gamers just wanna waste their time ?? So much travelling in this game.

Final Fantasy XV's story is half baked with much of it being shelled out to a movie, 5 anime short clips, & character DLC paywalls. The presentation of the story lacks proper contextualization & cohesion with all of the previously mentioned products. The main quest is stiflingly short for a triple A RPG & is severely lacking in in game content.

The next bit I am going to cover is the gameplay: what do you know, the combat animations are actually pretty good & seamless, but the lack of depth, poor leveling system, exploitable items, & exploitable utilization of central mechanics makes it easy to finish the game without a single game over on the highest difficulty. This game is an exploitable walk in the park for seasoned players of RPGs.

Up next is the game's world design: Final Fantasy XV's world design suffers from the inexperience of making western like open worlds. The game is plagued by nonsensical invisible barriers all over the place, only to be stumped by the visible barriers which leave you scratching your head as to why those are there in the first place. I can't overshadow how beautiful some of the spots are in the game, but you will stumble upon **** textures even in story specific areas.

Other stuff about the game: some of the in engine cutscene camera work is so poorly thought out that all you can do is cringe, while at other times it's exceptionally well done, but most of the time it's distasteful. The fact that you have to pay 60$ for a game, 20$ for a movie, watch 5 anime shorts, & buy character specific DLCs that are an integral part of the experience which were purposefully advertised in the story is bull****. Not only is it bull****, but you'll still have an unfinished product because the developers don't even know what they want to do with this game.

Final Fantasy XV is an underwhelming experience because it has the pseudo attempt of trying to make you believe it's doing so much when it's doing very little. There's a huge world with very little content, poor textures, bad design choices, & an overabundance of reused NPCs. Character display is incredibly lacking, yet we're supposed to comply with the self serious motivations & emotions of these shallowly displayed characters. Combat can look spectacular but is entirely shallow, probably even for Hack N' Slash standards.

Final Fantasy XV does a lot of things other games have done MUCH better. It's a nice buy if you can find it from around 20$ to maybe 30$ but I wouldn't suggest anything higher than that. If you're looking for a bang for your buck here are 5 RPGs that released within 5 months after Final Fantasy XV that scored higher: Nier Automata, Horizon Zero Dawn, Nioh, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild, & Persona 5.

I'm extremely disappointed in the story of this game. Through the game I did not feel anything for the character nor did the scene int he game made me feel anything. Through the whole game there were no emotion that was worth mentioning at all.

The Combat System was bad as well. The upgrade tree really was costly with points and not really much of a customization of your characters.

Magic was pretty useless in the game for it hurt not only the enemy but allies as well. Summon were ridicules because it requirement to summon depends on the battle and not when you want to. The only thing that I like about the combat system was the fighting style they have. It more fun to swing around the sword instead of taking turn base.

The story of this game is good and interesting, but the problem is if you want to understand the whole story then you have to first watch Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV and Brotherhood Final Fantasy XV.

This new battle system known as Active X Battle (AXB) is similar to the battle system used in Final Fantasy Type-0 and Kingdom Hearts. The player can only control Noctis, while the other characters are controlled by the AI. In battle, the player can use co-op moves that allows interaction with other characters. The magic system is not very good, while the summoning system is interesting. If Noctis gets KO'd then it's game over, but when Noctis falls to 0 HP then begins critical status and you have a limited time to heal. This battle system is good and interesting, but I was hoping that they will use and improve the ATB system from the previous Final Fantasy games. From Final Fantasy XII to Final Fantasy XV, they began to apply a battle system in which a player can only control one character, which is bad. The last Final Fantasy game where the player could control all the characters in the battle was Final Fantasy X. Unfortunately, after the Final Fantasy X series they stopped using the two best battle systems they made. The CTB system from Final Fantasy X and the ATB system from Final Fantasy X-2 were the best-improved versions of the traditional Turn-Based Battle system. They should use and improve one of these two battle systems or both in new Final Fantasy games. The thing I like in this game is the development of characters. The Ascension Grid is much better than the Sphere Grid from Final Fantasy X.

The idea of the open world is interesting, but they have broken the important rule of JRPGs. At the very beginning, the player can explore the whole world, can complete almost all sidequests and can train all the characters to the maximum level without progressing the story. For me, that's the worst thing in this game. JRPGs must have a semi-open world because in JRPGs the player was supposed to explore the world through the story: step by step the world should open to player to explore, to complete all sidequests and to train all the characters to the maximum level. That they have made this game as a semi-open world and that they put a CTB or ATB system, then this game would be perfect. But since they did not do so, then I gave a score 8 out of 10.

Conclusion: They have give more effort that this game have a excellent graphics and the mechanism of the open world, but they also should give the same effort to make excellent gameplay. In the end I can say that the game is good but they could do it even better. It's a good JRPG and I enjoyed playing it.

Final Fantasy XV Review: A ballad of the past and future.

A Final Fantasy for fans and first-timers: Developer SquareEnix , boldly declares as you begin your journey into the fifteenth iteration of the legendary JRPG series. In the past decade rpg’s like Fallout, the Mass Effect trilogy and the Witcher series have undergone a quantum leap in open-world exploration and gameplay, while the aging Final Fantasy series has been sharply criticized for forgoing such advances in favor of staying true to series traditions, but with Final Fantasy XV, SquareEnix is endeavoring to breath new life into the aging juggernaut by introducing a massive open-world to explore and a new action-based combat system. While SquareEnix is largely successful in reinvigorating the franchise with more modern gameplay mechanics, they, unfortunately, stumble when it comes to delivering the exhilarating narratives the series has become known for.

By far Final Fantasy XV’s most dramatic departure from tradition is found in its vast and vivid open world of Lucis. While older Final Fantasy’s, like VI & VII, have had semi-open worlds the amount of said world to explore was always limited by story progression. Final Fantasy XV shrugs this tradition by granting the player complete freedom to explore, complete side quest, and progress story content at their leisure. The world is mainly comprised of two environments, one more desert oriented and the other more reminiscent of a wooded forest dotted with rivers, lakes, and marsh lands. Spread throughout the world are numerous outpost and small towns where your party can gain valuable intel on the surrounding area, join hunts to track down dangerous daemons and enjoy status buffing meals from diners and local tipsters. Towns also provide you with an opportunity to stock up on valuable items like potions and elixirs from stores and take advantage experience boost by staying at hotels and caravans. You will need to take full of advantage of these resources as you explore the Kingdom of Lucis, as the world is filled with numerous and dangerous demons waiting to bring Noctis and friends quest to an early conclusion. Of course, this giant world would be wasted if it didn’t have anything to do in it, luckily, Final fantasy XV is full of quest to entice you to stray from the beaten path of the main story. The downside is that most of the quest are basic fetch quest, that while encouraging exploration of the world, offer little in terms of reward or excitement. One quest line literally had me travel to the same farm multiple times to simply harvest vegetables. Of course, with any Final Fantasy the best content is saved for the end game and that remains true with Final Fantasy XV, giving you the opportunity to unlock high level dungeons to truly test your skills.

While Final Fantasy XV’s open-world is an attractive first for the series, it was the combat that kept me engaged throughout my sixty-eight-hour play-through. Longtime fans of Final Fantasy are no doubt familiar with the series traditional turn-based combat, but for the first time in the series, in an effort to attract new fans who may have been turned off by the more methodical pace of the older entries, Square is introducing a new action-combat system that is more akin to the Kingdom Hearts franchise. Let’s be clear: I love turn-based combat and would love for Final Fantasy to continue to innovate in that style; having said that, the new action-combat system in Final Fantasy XV is, to put it simply, exhilarating.

The action of XV is fast paced and a little hectic, I often found myself engaging one group of enemies and had a second or third group join the fray, requiring me to reconsider my tactics on the fly. Luckily, nearly every enemy has a set of weakness and strengths that Noctis and party are fully capable of exploiting, whether it be an enemy weak to a certain weapon type; like lances or great swords, or the traditional magic elements of fire, ice or thunder. To accompany the fast-paced action combat, Noctis has an assortment of warping and phasing abilities that enable the young prince to overcome the direst of encounters. A quick tap of the square(X on Xbone) allows Noctis to phase through incoming attacks and, sometimes, gives Noctis the opportunity to inflict a powerful parry attack. If you find yourself being overwhelmed, a simple push of triangle (Y) will warp Noctis to safety allowing you to regenerate HP and MP and deliver a devastating warp-strike attack upon returning to the fray. As for your party members, while you cannot control them directly, they still serve an important role in combat. By performing certain actions in battle, like attacking an enemy from behind, you can perform a blindside attacks or social link attacks which allows Noctis and a party member to perform a short combo with significantly more damage. Unlike previous Final Fantasy, you do not have direct control of the party durin

Most of the people think the story is BAD or "THE WORST FINAL FANTASY GAME EVER". but for me its epic. you will never see the game with story like this. okay it really short, but the content of the story is good. the battle system are like Kingdom Hearts; you can attack with weapon, you can transform to wield more than one weapon, your friends can help you in battle and you can interact with your friends in battle.

The grinding system is good. you can challenge yourself with many monster that can be find in side quest. or you can just randomly fight monster when you explore the world of final fantasy xv.
my favorite thing about Final Fantasy XV is about the friendship, the bond between main char and the side kicks cant be found in any Final Fantasy game (i think). Its just like you can play with your friend even though you play it alone.

I finish my FF XV game in 58 hours. that is include doing some quest (almost 70% done) and doing some random exploration. my second attempt i got only 30 hours that i focus only on doing the main story line.

This game has some of the most addictive gameplay with a very deep and emotional story. If you're interested in the lore behind FFXV, make sure to watch Kingsglaive and/or Brotherhood to understand the lore otherwise it will be very disjointed.

The graphics? Some of the best I've seen, especially for console. The world looks absolutely stunning. I couldnt help but return to Galdin Quay and just take in the surroundings. Unfortunately there is a bit of sacrifice to FPS overall, but its usually a consistent 30fps depending on how much is going on.

The quests? Usually great, but there are some terribly boring side quests. (Dont get me started on that frog hunting quest.)
Most of the quests involve collecting things and earning Gil/items, but each tier will get harder to collect these things as you need to fight your way to them to make the quests interesting. There are also some relaxing moments where you can fish for ages and try to reel in the best fish possible.

The combat? When it works, it works amazing but when it doesn't it sucks. The only way it doesn't work is when you are between trees and other terrain which warps the camera to a point where you cant see anything. Aside from that, its incredible as like with other FF games, you have a plethora of weapons and get better ones along the way if you invest the time into the more difficult tasks. You also need to switch weapons depending on the enemy you are up against so you cant just yolo with one weapon through the entire game.

The story? I didn't think a game could make you feel every single emotion from start to end. This is of course if you dig the story.

The progression system? Not as good and in depth as FFX for example, but its still very rewarding and unique. Its divided into different categories from your overall team stats, to abilities you obtain. The AP grind isnt too bad either. After a while, you can unlock perks of getting AP throughout various exploration criteria and activities so obtaining AP will eventually flow naturally.

The characters? I love them. They all have their own personalities and the development of each character is fantastic. Its as if they are imitating real life situations and also reference things from todays culture which I really appreciated. Eventhough they can be cheesy at times, I couldn't help but laugh and relate to some of the things they said or did.

The end game? This is where it shines the most and where the countless hours kick in. Naturally throughout your first story playthrough, there would be so much you have missed and also things that unlock once you finish it. No spoilers here, but this game gets ridiculously hard and at the same time is riddled with excitement (putting aside those boring quests)

I can highly recommend this game. I'm sure there is a lot I have missed in this review but I think I have covered the main things. Eventhough the combat system is entirely different to the other titles, it works. Once again, the only things dropping it down to an 8 for me are the slow loading times, combat glitches, fps drops and the early game since it starts off a bit boring and you're adapting to a new play style, but give it a chance and push through!. The rest of the game is amazing.

However, There is a lot of great elements in FFXV that propell the series into a fresh new direction

+ One thing i really love is when i run into massive enemies and spend 20 minutes hacking it down as i
strategize and use party techniques, even though its 15 levels higher than me.
+ The Nostalgic music from all the previous final fantasy games which you can listen to while driving or even while on foot

+ The chocobos are amaazing!! the customization and racing is sooo fun and very much needed since your car is glued to streets only.
+ I really like some of the skills in the game, particularly fishing and cooking which offer up fun passtime activities
+ Of course the game looks amazing and has intense landspaces with different weather systems and massive structures that wow you as you drive past them.
    - sometimes Very.....very.....very long load times
    - Dialogue system is extremely repetitive to the point where it will drive you insane when your fishing or driving at night
    - Story line falls apart as you plunder through the abundant side quests that have no significance with the story line
    - I really really hate the car system in this game, i was shocked when i found out it was basically an on rails system.
    - lack of diversity in wildlife/monsters, most of the hunting quests you go on will have the same exact monsters

    - Many invisible walls that are very annoying, forcing you to run several minutes in another direction to go around

This game is absolutely wonderful and disregard anyone who says otherwise. I have played over 5hrs+ into it and its awesome! Love the MUSIC - Standby Me, and menu option and screens and etc. The game-play is wonderful, the world is beautiful and the characters grow.

Some of the pit-falls or challenges I have with this is game is the frame rate issue.. For action sequence games they need 60 frames per sec or it looks slow to me. Also the lack of story in the first 3 chapters is not well thought out and could have made it better. But the open vast world and hunting challenges is fun! I am not a big fan of the spell craft since it looks rushed. I am not a big fan of the equipment, item customization but ok with it. But here is how I broke it down.

I wish I could rate this game better. I am a long time Final Fantasy fan, I have played every Final Fantasy except I, II and III and tons of other RPGs and JRPGs and action/adventure games. And sadly this game doesn't succeed in being good at none of these categories.
First, the good things: the gameplay is good, if you are into action RPGs it is one of the best battle systems out there.

First, the good things: the gameplay is good, if you are into action RPGs it is one of the best battle systems out there. Even if I prefer more classical systems in RPGs I really enjoyed every fight of my 50 hours of gameplay. Graphics are beautiful. The cities are unique, inventive and beautifully rendered, even if sometimes they lack inspiration, the natural wilderness is vast, diverse and incredibly beautiful, the dungeons are surprisingly interesting and clever.
But unfortunately that's it. The open world of FFXV may be visually amazing and vast but it is empty and boring. RPG open worlds need content, background story, good, interesting and diverse NPC dialogues, sidequests that expand on the story and the lore. FFXV has nothing of this.
Story: this is the worst part. It is by far the most boring and worst written story of every Final Fantasy and of most modern RPGs. There is almost no story progression. Few and useless dialogues. Useless and boring NPC chatter which never helps expanding on the world and the story. At no time in the game there is a sense of purpose, an epic turn of events, a tragic worldchanging moment (and the actual ones all happen offscreen). The characters are bland and irritating.

combat is actually bad. FF15's "open world" is to open worlds what FF13 was to linear games. Systems and menu usage are clunky af. I timed a fast travel loading screen at 1:33, brutal. Im having a really hard time finding anything redeemable about this game. honestly just go play witcher 3 its the game SE was trying to duplicate here.

One of the worst JRPG's I've ever played.

    - Horrible boss fights (Leviathan is the worst boss fight ever)
    - Terrible characters (The whole cast is terrible)
    - Awful Combat (A failed Kingdom Hearts Wannabe)
    - Awful Story (Who wrote this garbage?)

I RECOMMEND EVERYONE WHO LIKES JRPG'S TO STAY AWAY FROM THIS GAME

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The final fantasy franchise was built around characters and stories. Multiple characters gained our affection, both villains and heroes, Sephirot, Zell, Stainer, Mika, etc. Every time I played I final fantasy game I prepared my self for some of the most joyful hours of my life. This was not the case.
Final Fantasy XV is shallow, the characters are not developed, the story is poorly presented and incredibly short, the world is absurdly small with one area, one city and one linear dungeon, giving the player no sense of exploring a world.
One of the greatest tools for a story teller is empathy, I felt none for the characters or the world, except the very last moment, where a Father must kill his son to save the world, that moment was good, but only because of the Movie.
The game play and graphics are the only good thing about the game, that's why it gets 3, but those things should come in second, because I still love to replay any final fantasy previous to X, but sure as hell I won't replay final fantasy XV ever.
    Disappointed.

I rarely see a game that is good in so many things and yet fails in so many other things. In the end I had a lot of addicting fun yet I seriously need to complain about some things.

    Graphics 8/10:
They overused post processing effects and eeverything looks a bit too blurry, even on PS4 pro. The lighting and character models look great as do some water effects. The scenery looks nice sometimes and sometimes too bland.

    Sound 10/10:
The only thing this game does not disappoint a single bit: the music. One of the best OST of this decade of any game.

    Fighting system 8/10:
Well, I was sceptical at first, but it the melee feels right. I had a lot of fun bashing Monsters. One subtraction for the **** up use of Esper and one point subtraction for the use of magic. Nice idea, yet totally ****

    Story 6/10:
Having consumed brotherhood and the Kingsglaive beforehand I think the story is OK in general but the narration is sparse and it sucks in comparison to almost all older FF.

    Characters 8/10:
I am only giving them an 8 because I liked them. The charactes are poorly narrrated but they feel alive somehow. The main villain is quite boring. The emo look feels out of place even inside the game world.

    World 7/10:
The Open World is quite enjoyable yet it is still so damn restricted that it is hilarious. The whole car stuff is and it's controls are barely bearable. The Chocobo makes good of that though. The second part of the game where it get's linear is mediocre at best. And chapter 13 is the worst of any FF game.
So let's say spend 40 hours until you go on that ship and you will enjoy this game. Afterwards...

    Post game content 8/10:
You can have some neat stuff there. Yet some of the new dungeons are qite "mad" or bad. Going 4 hours downstairs ... well what a fun.

If you are a Final Fantasy veteran like myself you really have to create an open state of mind for this one to be able to enjoy it. I did and I enjoyed the game until you take the ship to the more linear experience. Then until the post game content I was in constant disappointment.

I hope they take their time to redevelop FF 7 remake away from this style.
So many bad decisions square enix. Your were lucky it is partly fun.

This game was a disappointment. It seems that this game was too long into development that they decided to just publish it in order to get some revenue. But let's go to the review.

First the core thing in any RPG. The story. It fails to get you invested in the characters. The have removed a large part of the narrative and made it into an also disappointing movie. Without the movie you lose a lot of the backstory needed to understand the characters. I cannot even understand the logic behind this.

Then the characters. They seem well thought and well written, but none of the gameplay supports this. The characters seem superficial. There's the distant hero, the cook/driver, the tough/camping guy and the photograph guy. Maybe it's just me, but I cannot identify with either of them. I don't care about these characters. Also you cannot control any other guy than the hero (compared to older FF) and there's a lack of women in your squad. So all guys and superficial characters, means that this game is aimed at very young boys and not mature guys (like the ones that have played the first FF games).

So no gripping story and no interesting characters. But let's go to the gameplay.

You've got a car! And you move great distances with a car. And it's the most boring thing in this game. Dude I've got a car in real life. Putting fuel in it, or listening music in the car, or getting bored while driving is not an experience that most seek. Only if you're very young and haven't experienced this, then you'll might find it interesting. I load up the game, excited to play the hero, and I'll have to wait 6 real life minutes in order to reach my destination. Meh I'll watch some videos on my phone, or go make a coffee in order to stay awake from the boredom.

The open world is very sparse! I get bored walking (or riding the chocobo) from point to point, for hunting and generally explore the world. I they could shrink the whole world by 50% then it would be perfect. A few steps and here's something interesting.

Oh the fighting...! I don't feel that I'm doing anything heroic. I'm definitely not getting bored, but the only thing that makes you feel like a hero, isn't there! I don't decide any strategy for the squad (see FF13), I don't have the choice of actions (see all FF), I don't have an option to pick priorities for the characters (see FF12), no special skills (see FF7), no variety of magic (see FF8). There's nothing special. I can only chose the type of weapon I will use. This makes all enemies the same. I'm leveled up enough, I can kill it. No thought/skill required. This means no challenge to make you feel like a hero.

    Next.... The controls... are "disconnected".

I'm in a town. I push max forward the stick and the hero is slowly walking. DUDE just run! I don't have time for this. If I wanted to walk, I would press lightly forward. I want to change direction. NOPE. The character needs to think about it. In a few seconds you change direction. Meanwhile I'm raping the controller with my fingers as if its not even listening.

The same in dungeons or open world. I press max forward. The character runs fast. I'M HAPPY! Then he slows down for no reason! DAMN IT DUDE! Are you tired? I click the left stick in order to force him to run again. He runs for a few feet and then slows down again. RAGE! It's like I'm controlling a bored horse and I have to hit it every few feet in order to run fast.

This is how I feel like a hero. I'm whipping the hero in order to run!

Oh and the AI of the other characters. First of all they're usually in the way! WHY OH WHY do you make them run in front of you?! DUDE I'm the leader. I run forward and YOU ALL follow my lead. Nope! After a few feet they run in the same direction as you and pass you. But YOU DONT KNOW WHERE IM GOING YOU IDIOT! I'm the one that controls the game! Just follow me.

The controls make you disconnected from the character. I want to feel that I'm controlling the character, not that I'm fighting the character for control. And this is constant!

And another thing. I DONT CARE ABOUT THE PHOTOS. Dude we're trying to save the world and you're asking me "who do you want to take photos of?". I don't care dude. I'm not here for the photos. Not even in real life people care about photos, unless it's someone naked or in embarrassing funny situations. And I haven't seen any photos like this in the game. It's photos of four dudes smiling and/or acting tough and If you're lucky there's some picture of an NPC character. Imagine how ridiculous would be to take a photo of Sephiroth in FF7, or Squall in FF8. The moment they would see you taking a photo, either of them would break your camera on the spot. This silly superficial photo thing breaks the whole immersion.

The creators in this game seem to lack direction. It seems that the guys that made the previous FF games have left and the latest games lack this glue that makes the games special. Maybe it's just me...

I didn't get the chance upon release unfortunately as real life took a lot of my time away from me, but when I finally got to play the game I had nothing but a blast.

The development of the game was a bit rocky, that much is clear, the thing is about the game though is that despite this rough time pre-release when the game came out it wasn't a mess or a disappointment, or even bad in any way, in fact quite the opposite as the game was fun, entertaining and even good. The feeling however was strange because it was still quite rough around the edges with a few little hiccups here and there.

Despite these flaws though the game never really let me down when playing it however, which was the most surprising factor.

Now to be more specific, this game clearly has a lot of love put into it from start to finish and really is a Final Fantasy for first timers and newcomers probably being the closest to the original in terms of feeling since the pre-VII titles. With the story whilst being a bit rushed in the later half still had some very epic and otherwise emotional moments. The characters were some of the most likable characters to have ever been introduced and the world was beautiful from start to finish.

It may not have been perfect, but overall it was a fun ride and isn't that the most you can ask for in a game?

I had hope for this game, because of the good user and critic reviews. Ultimately, it was disappointing. If you take away the repetitive and intentionally time-consuming side quests, this is a very short game, with only a few small set pieces. I quickly went from start to sidequests, then immediately to end game.

The world also feels small. Much of it looks and has the same feel.

I never connected with the characters, either. Prompto is unnecessarily insecure and his personal twist falls flat, feeling like an afterthought. I watched the anime beforehand, which does help to provide some background.

It's upsetting that the success of this may force a similar direction in the future.

10 long years I waited for this. What are the paid shills who write the 7-10 score reviews saying?

    - "A Beautiful Open World" - that you can't even explore openly because of invisible barriers. While some parts are nice (the parts shown in the trailer) most of the world feels barren and empty as if it hasn't seen any attention from the developers. The cities are lifeless and there is absolutely no sense of exploration, any secret area you find usually contains nothing more than a crafting material. Even the need to talk to a NPC merchat is alleviated by allowing you to shop from your car.

    - "easy to learn and fun combat mechanics " - yeah its pretty easy to hold a button down to Auto Attack and a button down to dodge. Its especially easy to learn when you its pretty much impossible for you to die - when you "go down" you simply limp about with your MAX HP draining until another party member can bring you back to your feet. Phoenix Down's are also so plentiful that even when my entire party was wiped out "Downed" Noctis was able to throw a Phoenix Down and we are back in business holding Auto Attack and Dodge - SO FUN.

    - "a lot of depth to the combat that can be reached by the big verity of weapons" - This i don't get. Its fake depth, with the exception of a few , most weapons are re-skinned melee weapons , the game is essentially a Hack-n-Slash. Magic has been dumbed down to 3 basic elements that can be infused to give bonus effects. (not to mention you have to gather materials to craft the spell) Even the summons have been dumbed down to a RNG chance of occurring.

    - "So many side quests you can't hardly focus on the main story (a pro, not a con) and that don't feel at all repetitive" - NOT REPETITIVE? Every single side quest in this game is a shallow attempt at adding depth to a lifeless game. --- Talk to unimportant irrelevant NPC with no memorable quotes or background, go to Point A. Return to NPC. Receive Item. Every "side-quest" has this structure. Think Preston Garvey in FO4.

    - "challenging hunts" - the only challenging thing about the hunts in this game is finding the willpower to continue playing the game long enough to reach the interesting hunts.

i'm not going to comment on the story because I personally couldn't find the strength to finish it (stopped at Chapter 11)

People who claim that the bad reviews are from Turn based purists or whatever need to have a serious think about what this game does right. No sense of exploration, simplified and dumbed down RPG mechanics, shallow lifeless world and characters, and don't even get me started on that horrible car.

It's neither turn-based, nor full ARPG, something in between...
What turned out to be great was the fact that you are given a pause in the action which gives you an opportunity to use libra/scan to devise the best strategy and gifted the ability to switch out your party's gear and spells to suit the foes you're fighting.
In previous FF games, you'd have to lose the battle before being able to change anything.
Many people have criticised that all you do is hold circle throughout fights - these people haven't taken on any challenging foes yet - you certainly can't take on some of the later bosses without near constant blocking, waiting for the opportunity to attack.

The graphics are gorgeous and the story is good too.
The skills (fishing, photography, etc) are irrelevant but diverting if you want more out of your game.

The thing that let the game down is the main characters - they look like a K-Pop band and act in a mostly repugnant nature.
They in no way make you care about them.
Noct grows as a character towards the end of the game but not much and not convincingly.
The only main character I felt any warmth towards was Ignis (no pun intended).

It's only the fact that I bought the game digitally that I put in the effort to find a real gem of an ARPG but if I had bought the disc, I'm not sure I'd have put the effort in and would have traded it in quickly, with an altogether different opinion of the game.

It started with boredom and kept on going with boredom. I heard that the latter chapters are even more of boredom so I decided to give up. I did not buy this game just to chill out with car driving or fishing or cooking meal. I need excitement. FF series always create excitement but this game fail miserably in this area. ( Actually, I am a fan of FF, but I won't protect it because of that)

Combat system is one and only ok thing in the game. It is just ok not great. Most of the time, you don't know what you are doing. Keep blocking and waiting for parrying are the safest way to win yet most boring way but you have no choice because the battle always become chaos. Legendary weapons will drains your hp (I don't know who come up with this idea but it is stupid.) It is fun for a while before you start feeling repetitive for doing the same and the same. You have no control of your friends either, which contradict with the standard of FF series thus far. It is unique system though so I don't want to be harsh but it is barely hold players. It needs refinement. Magic is an item now WTF and Summoning has no freedom. Many things went wrong here.

    1. Loading time kills the game
    2.Car speed is too slow
3.No girl in your party (Seriously ?)
    4.Graphic is not that impressive.
    5.Boring uninspired sidequests
6.Music is not memorable as other previous FF title

Good point ?? - I don't know, can't think of any. Maybe Luna looks good, that is it

Overall, it is just an barely ok game. It has length, open world and unique battle system, but they should not put the "FF" name on this one. If you are looking to open-world game, I suggest go for Horizon Zero Dawn instead. 5 of 10 is a very generous score from me. Without an acceptable yet flawed combat system, the score would have been much lower.

Easily the best Final Fantasy title in a decade; FFXV comes with a great story, likable characters and a modern battle system. There's hundreds of hours of fun monster battling to be had in a beautiful open world and that would make it good; what makes it great is the relationships between the four main characters.

When me and my friend finished this game...we were like, OMG that was a masterpiece!!! Noctis will be remembered as an amazing character, he reallt feels like a main role. Everything else is great too, battles, game mechanix abilities are really interesting. This game is damn beautiful too. It is a beautiful game, I was blown away by the ending. It is a great new-gen experience. It also got me to a point - nowadays games are HUGE you should just enjoy every bit of it. It looks like their ideal game contains part A-B-C-D-E-F and so on. However, they have only finished part A and a little bit of part B. So basically after part B you are rushing towards the end with lots of unanswered questions and confusing story development.

However I still enjoy this game. But for those who are considering, maybe you should avoid this current version and save your time.

And really, making mandatory to watch both Kingsglaive and Brotherhood so you have the background of the MAIN STORY of a JRPG? Look, those works are supposed to EXPAND the in-game story, not being the **** main source. And the very fact they're patching the plot, you know, the strong part in any RPG game, it's the final nail in the coffin.
The combat is dynamic but the very fact you have to maintain pressed the buttons instead of the classic tapping makes it strange to form combos to quickly eliminate enemies, the fact you can't change your party members at ANY MOMENT (A Final Fantasy video with no other option for party members, what?!) and oh boy, the magic.
This is the first Final Fantasy game I'm not using either magic or summons in a tactic scenario, because one happens in random occasions and the other is "Friendly fire for everyone"
And so far the DLCs lauched should have been in the story. From the beginning.
I'm sorry, SE, but you can't live up by the name alone.
You need to back it up with good games.

This game takes everything you love about the final fantasy universe and cuts it down to a barebones minimalistic and trendy piece of garbage. Final Fantasy is supposed to be a magical realm of wonder and awe but instead, we get a boring lifeless world with pointless fetch side quests. zero spells, a 10-hour main storyline filled with plotholes which lead to an incomplete and incoherent storyline with travelling that takes WAY to long to get anywhere and will literally waste your time trying to get from point A to B.

    Pros:
    - Combat animations are good.
    - The soundtrack is wonderfully done.
    - 4 main protagonists are likeable.
    - Day/Night Transitions look nice.

    Cons:
    - The open world is a barren wasteland filled with little to nothing to do.
    - There is a huge amount of downtime in this game when going from point A to B.
    - Exploration offer's zero rewards as items are static and can be bought it stores.
    - Poorly balanced combat, the fights are either way too easy or way too hard.
    - Levelling your characters really does not offer anything significant to your hero's ability.
    - Combat does not evolve whatsoever from the start of the game to the finish.
    - Huge lack of skills for the team that get outclassed by the next unlocked skill, Noctis does not have a single skill other than the armiger and warp striking.
    - Fighting monsters and enemies in the world always will always feel like a one-sided fight/you have all this power and you fight enemies with no magic or ability skills.
    - 2 cities in the entire game. (no this is not a joke)
    - The inability to simply go up to and have a conversation with a single NPC in the game. (FF1 had this and so did every other FF game so why not this one?)
    - The most incoherent storyline that tells you the who, what, where, when but then fails to tell you the why and how in the main storyline. (THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF ANALYZING A STORY!)
    - Kingsglaive, the Brotherhood anime, justice monsters five, and kings knight where a complete waste of resources and could have been just used for FFXV.
    - To understand the entire game world you must buy the official strategy guide for footnotes.
    - All story cutscene options give you the same outcome.
    - Cup Noodle commercial quest... (I really wish I was kidding but I am not)
    - No spell

The worst part is that hardcore fans of this series which should have been the number one priority in pleasing were punished for being hardcore fans and by watching all the active time reports as soon as they came out should benefit a person not hurt their experience If you where someone like me who watched the ATR's then guess what, you just witnessed literally the first 7 chapters of the game's cutscenes chopped from the game and presented in a random order. I thought I saw maybe 1-3% of what the game had to offer but instead, it was more like 40-45% of what the game had to offer. So instead of trying to make a truly great and genre changing RPG like Tabata claimed, instead we get a generic world full of borrowed outdated and overused mechanics from games like Uncharted, Farcry and Skyrim. I could have forgiven all that if the story was no rushed to death... This is a statement from Hajime Tabata about the complaints about the story in FFXV "We didn't want to create a comprehensive and perfectly balanced story in this game" -HT. So he went with the walking dead style of storyline telling where you don't tell you audience jack and expect them to come up with their own fan theories and outlooks for the game!?!? Because if that is was the intention to make a game with a BS story line then mission accomplished. You could have made an actual RPG game with actual good storytelling but Tabata didn't want to? Absolute total BS excuse... This game had so much potential and how this sold 5 million copies blows my mind...

i´ve allways been a hardcore fan of the series since the magestic FF VII. i had some expectations on this game from the earlier trailers and articles and all the previus work for many years.

I finished the game in a near 70 hours gameplay and thats the conclusion:

Graphics are way below the expectations. The game uses good textures and facial animations on main characters and the rest of NPCs are ridiculous... the graphics quality gap is terrible in terms of texturing and animation and the general impression is lazy. The biggest enemies are nice and some creatures ( no spoilers ) are really impressive but overall graphics are inconsistent. Ilumination is meh, nothing special. Magic attacks are simply nice but dont blow your mind. I expected much more.

Sound is MEH..... suits all situations overall but the quality is standard for battle and epic moments.

Main story is too short and too linear.

From my 70 hour gameplay most of the time used on farming XP, doing secondary missions and minigames. U can finish the game going straight forward in less than 20 hours. The only thing that prevents u from doing that is the enemy levels, u need to farm XP to face foes in final chapter. Its a shame because the game is based in an """open""" world but sadly the game spams too much loading screens between transitions and the loading time is too high that makes u feel downer.

Im sick of the stupid PUPPET MASTER cliché ( no spoilers ). The story is inconsistent, Your nemesis is a typical douchebag that makes your ears bleed with unnecessary bla bla bla bla. Final chapters of the game are TRULY and DESPERATELY boring thanks to puppet master cliche and bla bla bla from your nemesis. A real shame. And all work for the worst final battle ever seen in the whole series.

Minigames are funny but u end so tired of runing.

And i stop. As i said i playd for near 70 hours. The game most of the time is MEH, u got 2 or 3 moments that u say WOOOOW and some others that y say ****** ** **** ********* *** ********* ******. Thats not what u xpect from a final fantasy game.

Entertains you. But ull forget it faster than u playd it.

story is always interesting and gripping and the open world is relaxing and fun and challenging. i often am reminded of road tripping thru america. characters grow on you a ton with the story events. there are females, but your battle squad is the 4 bros korean boy band that wrecks ass.
gameplay is good.. the battle and entire game is essentially witcher 3 in final fantasy flavor in a very good way. i think this game is around the same or higher level of fun than witcher 3, there are more weapon types in this game.
items are simple.. i like the simplicity.. it's not as complex as witcher 3 but there is some crafting where you get recipes to give to blacksmiths. mostly you collect treasure to give to your people of your kingdom of lucis and they give you BANK like thousands GIL yknow. racks on racks. you can sort items and buy and sell while sitting in the car to your next quest, so right when u finish you finished the car ride / loading
the story is good.. i actually like it and it's everything this game couldve delivered. truly relates to many serious themes on planet earth, fighting for peace and freedom and stuff. when bad ppl take over.
noctis is a really good character.. he is realistic with depth and masters his powers etc and the variety of events thru the day cycle is so interesting like night monsters vs daytime ones

i actually really like this game and appreciate it

graphics are fine.. i get constant 60 fps on the high graphics settings there's also a dedicated lite mode to make sure you get 60.

    cons
rushed, in a good way, to keep momentum, but the story encompasses his whole life in a matter of hours which can feel like the progression is breezing by fast, which feels good at times, unlike witcher 3 where he literally doesnt change at all lol
    i want more luna freya
leviathan summon needs to splash more water lol
i think they couldve fleshed out so many parts like noctis as a kid being with luna. how about a dungeon or two. like in old games. and that wouldve built so much better support to appreciate the progressions of the story. im glad they are patching in more of the story..
MORE INGREDIENTS omg i think 2000 more ingredients should be added and way more recipes. having like 200 dishes to make is cool but i think we need way more food every update. like make a onion model then color it white and make it smaller boom garlic model.. and so on.
more gear pls there is like 30 gear pieces of armor to wear haha

i think if the game had a prologue: luna section where you play with her and noct as kids and her growing up would be so badass and add so much to the game.

8/10 overall because it's fun, memorable, story is hot, characters are cool and good examples of real life young people archetypes music is really good omg but shortness of length and lack of detail means it's not perfect 10 or near perfect 9 just an 8 like good

i love the group combos and all that. honestly the game is really fun and if it was released with an independent title it would be a 10/10 for many but with the final fantasy expectations some ppl are mad when they lose lmao

most of the bad reviews state outright they were losing at the game hahaha

oh and also there needs to be a journal.. like in witcher 3.. with a bestiary.. and completed quests.. and everything so you can review the info and appreciate the game. also the script is pretty good in my opinion.. i would say the entire script is casual then concise, funny, meaningful. and the game is not easy.. i have died more in final xv than i did in witcher 3 on hard mode. witcher 3 on hard mode is easy as **** compared to the first area of the world of ruin which i cant even get past and im 5 levels above the recommended level.

the summons are available based on elements so if youre near water, you can summon leviathan etc it wouldnt make sense to do a water summon in the middle of the desert.. so when the weather is raining you can cast the raining thunder summon etc. and i appreciate how the summons of nature actually work with the game's nature weather system.

The combat is great, and this game is a huge breath of fresh air for the Final Fantasy series. Sure it has its flaws, but the good greatly outweighs the bad. The reason for the negative user scores is that everyone wants this game to be Final Fantasy Versus 13, which it is not. But it is a little small considering how long the development took. The cities are beautifully made although they're few in number. The enemies and mobs are also very well made, though still relatively few in number (considering the world size). You'll find that they're reused quite often. I can't really explain how beautiful the game world is through words. I don't think there's any other game with a world that is quite as well made.

Combat is also awesome. It's engaging and fast paced. At the start till somewhere in the middle. I have 2 gripes with combat. The extremely low number of equipment, and the fact that skills don't really affect combat much. They don't open new mechanics and combat CAN, eventually, get kind of stale after a while.

The biggest con: the story. The story... or seemingly non-existent one. If you could do a speedrun, I'd reckon that you could finish the story in an hour. I spent more (LOTS OF) time with miscellaneous quests and leveling up rather than the story itself. Of course, given the crazy beautiful game world, I didn't mind them much at all. But the story was not well told, it was short, lacked depth and it was forgettable. The characters themselves are well made. You grow closer to them not through the story, but through constant interactions with them throughout the game.

I don't consider the car mechanic a con unlike some other reviewers. Yes, sometimes it feels like a drag. But I understand the design choice made by the developers. If you could fast travel at anytime, you wouldn't be able to appreciate the visuals, and there wouldn't be a reason to put that much effort into world creation. (Also the reason for the chocobo travel mechanic). But if you just want a fast paced action game, this isn't for you. Take a moment to look at the game world around your character. Listen to the beautiful BGM. Listen to the banter from your teammates. Appreciate how well the game is made. Stop **** about how long it takes or how much of a pain it is. And you'll find yourself loving the game more for it.

Which is why I'm giving this game a 15/10 just because of the beautiful game world, and deducting 6 for the crappy story. 15-6=9/10

The game starts off great, then declines in its final chapters. For the first half of the game it felt like a 9/10. The ending reduced that impression, but it redeemed itself in other aspects.

    Pros:
-I found the hack and slash combat refreshing compared to turn-based
-Great voice-acting for the majority of the cast (English)
-Character interaction is great and the team really feels like they're travelling with you. Loved how team members exchange interactions in the car while driving, call out if you get hit, comment on your actions such as trying to open a clearly locked door for the third time, sit around the camp site together etc. The details make them feel alive in their own rights.
-Beautifully animated. Some of the scenes just came alive. Locations were beautiful too.
-Lots of colossal, interesting creatures to fight.
-Some great novel ideas, although some don't pay off.
-The addition of the open-world and side quests was a great move in my opinion.
-I enjoyed the details in the world around me, you could immerse yourself quite easily. Would have been great if there were more areas.
-Really enjoyed the characters (although sometimes comically emo or bratty, I kind of found this endearing and laughed it off. There was enough for me to find each of them likable).

    Cons:
-Chapters 13 onwards. One extremely long and tedious mission where you are stripped of your weapons. This is where it went downhill for me. The mission was like a brand new game with attempts at stealth and otherwise pointless fetch quests to find 'keys to the next door' essentially.
-Combat is almost too easy at times. I walked the earth with a pocket full of Phoenix Downs (used to revive you from the dead), and never even needed them.
-Would've been cool if you could switch up the members of your team. You do get new 'fill in characters' on occasion, but you can't dictate this, and they often don't contribute much anyway.
-Travelling was a mission. Contrary to what some reviewers are saying, an auto-travel option does exist. It's just so specific, I only figured it out midway through the game.
-The story was far too short. I was surprised to discover I had finished the game abruptly 15 chapters in.

    Overall:

Oddly enough, the flaws of this game are not enough to make me regret having played it. Quite the contrary, it;s pretty addictive. I found running around in the open world post-plot a lot of fun.

    Pros:

This fantasy is awesome, but has some weak points. There are obvious problems in the storytelling because of cuts(luck of time in development).
But there are so many different emotions in its 20-25 hour main story so it's hard to find something this heart-touching. The fighting system is amazing, the world is amazing, characters are amazing (especially Ardyn with his malicious voice)!

It's certainly original, and ground breaking. The graphics are smooth, immersive and even overwhelming at times. The world is vast and plentiful. The story has major highs, but also a lot of pitiful lows. And the characters are overflowing with personality and, well...character.

Unfortunately, the combat is a bit of a flustercuck (to be polite). It works, it's fun, it's simple yet expansive. But it has a lot of issues (usually with larger enemies, certain small/tight terrains and dungeons, and the camera angling is atrocious at times). And the story, as great as it could be (and after basically theorizing what the hell happened with the rest of the community) did have some impressive twists, turns. Hell, they were emotional.

The major downside is that there's evidently huge chunks of this game just missing, and the story is short. The MCs are all the place in their chemistry and goals, as well as the fact the main Antagonist(s) aren't either shown, or their intentions or backstory fully explained. Well, to be truthful... their's just little to no air time for the important things that matter. The story evidently seemed an after thought, but the open world experience and it's major details are spot on.

All-in-all this game is phenomenal, but it's let down by poor narrative structure. And time-wasting mechanics. There's fast travelling, but it's limited. So far after near 60hrs of gameplay, more than half of that has been in travelling time and other 'mechanics' that impede your pace of playing, forcing you to play at this game's pace. (There's an infamous section of the game SE themselves are going to address because it got so much hate over how pitiful and pointless it was, as well as the end-game portion).

The 7/10 is the best I can give it, and that's being generous. For how grand it is at one end of the scale, it's let down by major issues at the opposite end. Hopefully SE rectify this, or atleast learn from this. But the story is short, sorta sweet... but extremely confusing because, hey!, there are entire portions missing.

*EDIT* I've replayed this game recently. And I was disappointed. My opinion didn't improve, and it seems that without the hype keeping my love for the franchise alive... and already having prior experience with the flaws of this game. They were more evident. Unsure if the trauma was too fresh for me to play this game again so soon. But my non-existent love, though I did give it "reasonable" praise prior, was still not there for this game. Honestly, FFXV is a stain on this franchise.

I have also replayed FFIII, IX and X recently and the nostalgia glasses weren't dirty enough for my views of these games to be jaded. I'm starting believe that outside certain FF titles, in the main series atleast, not all are amazing and that the name itself isn't as prestigious as I original thought it to be. I seemed to have left on a tangent there, but my point is that... this is Final Fantasy. And I've been, like many others, holding it to a certain regard. A high regard. Higher then what I expect of the main stream AAA franchises, or titles, that with all that man-power, time and money should be on an appropriate standard. That FF, sometimes, doesn't hit that aforementioned standard. Nevermind the standard I falsely hold in my mind. And FFXV is another game in the series that doesn't hit that standard, off AAA games in general.

Sure, I praised it for various achievements. Even stating it was ground breaking. But looking back... it wasn't *THAT* good, nor groundbreaking. And it hurts me to say that because I am a delusional fanboy of SE... or I was. Until their recent run of bad games (even developed by, or published by SE). I know WoFF and Nier:Automata were some amazing titles they brought to us. But FFXV should be on a pedestal higher and it isn't, it's unfinished. Plain and simple. A rushed, incomplete mess that I've been critical of many other titles for, and even verbally punished. And FFXV deserves no less.

It's not exactly a bad game, it's also not exactly good either. But it does have some strong areas, things I would love to see in future FF games - or other games in general - the open world aspect, a stunningly beautiful world that wasn't just immersive it FELT immersive. Grand monsters, and an improvement on the battle mechanics in some way or another. Honestly, I appreciate the 'hack and slash' gameplay that was intuitive due to the fact it was responsive, it automated chains depending on limited inputs... and no button spamming was necessary. This is revolutionary and should be a must in future beat'em ups and hack and slash games. It saves on needless stress, so you can game longer, and preserves the life of your controller as well as makes for smoother gameplay. So maybe it was intuitive afterall. But still only 6/10.

As a new comer to the series I really enjoyed Final Fantasy XV. I've been gaming since the 80's and played many RPG's, but could never get into the FF series. Anyway, I bought the game in a sale and thought I'd give it a go and got hooked within the first hour. The game world is stunning, it blends reality with fiction beautifully. It's a really great cross over to have real world shops, hotels, houses, restaurants, towns and resorts blended with fantasy landscapes and creatures. I love how one minute you are in a modern town doing fetch quests for 'normal' looking people and the next in the middle of a battle with a giant beast surrounded by surreal landscapes.

Quests are varied enough to keep you occupied. The main story is not particularly deep but is interesting enough to keep you playing. A few have complained about story and I presume they are hardcore fans who have seen better from the series but as a newcomer I didn't mind. Roaming the world and creating your own unique story through exploration was imo more enjoyable than watching lengthy cutscenes.

The main characters are okay, they do seem a bit dated like earl 00's emo kids and don't really look like royal warriors, but I've played as much more bizarre characters in JRPG's before so it wasn't game breaking. It would have been nice to have a bigger range of costumes that changed the style of the characters so I could make them look better suited to my tastes.

I liked the combat it wasn't perfect but it worked although simple. FF XV is not a hard game and some aspects have been made overly simple but I presume that's to ease in new comers, As someone who understands and has played many RPG's a deeper battle system would have been welcome.

The map is large and your main mode of travel is by car or Chocobo. The car is manual or auto but manual driving doesn't give full control which is annoying. Chocobo however are super fun to run around on.

The graphics look great, character models are good and the environments detailed. Sound is decent and voice acting is reasonable.

I'd definitely recommend this game and look forward to playing past and future FF games.

I am a long time Final Fantasy fan. Unfortunately XV is quite similar to XIII in that it is not an awful game but is very far from a masterpiece also.
What Final Fantasy has always sold itself on is story. This is the number one gripe I have with the game. I can forgive the rough open world idea, the endless fetch quests, the inconsistent combat, and wonky camera, but I can not forgive the story that was delivered. If your main enjoyment from previous FF's has been story then you are most likely going to be disappointed by this entry.

The pacing is alarmingly irregular. At the early stages of the game there is none to little story (or motivation) around to drive you forward, but as you come to the end exposition gets thrown at you all at once and you will be pushed towards the end of a story you've only just been starting to understand. In the early chapters you will be told to collect weapons to help your country, only to have this discarded as important by the next chapter where communing with aeons suddenly becomes what it is you have to do. Focus is the main thing this story needed but there is a lack of it at both ends; there is very little clear idea of what it is you're actually working towards at the beginning, and near the end so much is going on all at once that it is hard to pinpoint what the story is trying to tell you. Characters will routinely have things happen to them rather than developing themselves through choices and actions. The four main characters you spend your time with are likable but rarely step out of the sterotypes you are introduced to at the start. New characters will be introduced only to disappear very soon after and become largely irrelevant to the grand scheme of things. A lot of events will happen off screen with little attempt to explain them further to the viewer who might be confused by what exactly has happened.

The combat is passable. I found myself enjoying it immensely at the beginning but it soon becomes boring and rigid. There isn't much variation to mix things up and battles seem to be either ridiculously easy or unfairly hard with little comfortable middle. Attacking certain parts of enemies is a fun idea but it doesn't add much to the strategy or flow of battle. The best execution in battles is the tactics you can order your friends to make, and the team attacks you can trigger with them. These are gratifying and fun to watch as well as essential to a lot of harder fights, but even with this good addition the combat doesn't do much to entice you to enjoy it for it's own sake. Magic was as much of a dealbreaker for me as it seems it was for most people but more variety would have been nice and it was simply easier just to attack away then throw magic half the time.

The open world is again passable. Bogged down with meaningless fetch quests and tedious car journeys, the best way to travel is by chocobo but don't expect your exploration to be rewarded. You can come across quest givers with broken down cars, or a person in distress requiring a potion, but what I've just described is the extent of the complexity to these discoveries. These people have nothing new to say or bring to the game as a whole and you will find yourself cursing when finding them after a short while. The world is pretty and the diversity of enemies is good, I will give it that. I did enjoy fishing but the repetitive banter which is a symptom elsewhere is at it's worse when doing so. You will hear the same lines over and over and don't expect to grow to love them- it mars what is otherwise quite a fun minigame. I didn't even bother with the pinball machine game after trying it once so can't talk extensively about that but it certainly didn't win me over.
The day/night cycle changes up what enemies you will encounter but you will run into a problem I mentioned earlier, in that a lot of these fight are unfairly hard and a chore to get through. In fights like this your winning depends more upon the amount of potions and phoenix downs you've got handy than actual skill.

The music is something I can applaud, and the soundtrack is one of my favorites of all Final Fantasy games. It's done incredibly well apart from a few town hubs (Lestallum I'm looking at you) being repetitive and annoying. Alongside this the inclusion of being able to buy previous game's soundtracks is inspired. In other positive notes the villain did as well as they could of done considering the story; they were both threatening and entertaining and it is a real shame more backstory couldn't have been discovered on them, as I was very interested. Photography is another inspired move alongside cooking; there's something about looking at photos while eating a dinner you choose yourself that feels cosy and familiar. It is in these moments that the game feels like something more special and worthy of our time.

Boy, the ending was a tearjerker. If Square Enix could add Hard Mode (raise the prices really high on potions, etc.) and 2-3 more chapters near the end game (after Chapter 8), that would make the game even better. After so many years of development, Final Fantasy XV is not what I expected it to be. The universe is immense and beautiful and the characters are just fine. But the story is short and disappointing and the gameplay suffers from lack of depth. FFXV is a good game, but it can never bring the former glories back to the series.

Even as you reflect on the rarity of a blockbuster that's willing to take real risks, you'll be left with the uncomfortable realisation that ten years wasn't quite long enough, after all. Those jagged edges are, in the end, just a little too sharp. [Feb 2017, p.110]

Despite a divided feel, torn between what it was and what it plans to be, Final Fantasy XV has a lot to offer. If you're a diehard JRPG fan, then it's a positive sign that the series can cross over to a new format. And if you're just looking for an open world adventure, Final Fantasy XV certainly has that in spades, while doing just enough things differently to separate it from the likes of Dragon Age and Elder Scrolls.
