I wish I could give half score, then my score would be 9.5, but my criticisms aren't enough to give it a 9.

I have only played this game with the Royal Edition or Windows Edition. This version has all the dlc and updates in the game already so I don't know about those things people had issue with in the past. But this game, the AI system between the 4 main characters is so wonderful.

But this game, the AI system between the 4 main characters is so wonderful. It feels like you are truly seeing 4 guys on the road, bantering and laughing and becoming family. The story has some issues, and that's my main reason for the lack of .5 score. The reasoning of the gods is confusing, why they needed to curse Ardyn, why Noctis needed to die to save Ardyn... it's rather nonsensical, but I believe that's a holdover from Tetsuya Nomura... who is known for that.
My biggest issue lies in Luna, she is under utilized and the things she does for the story and Noctis are downplayed. She is the one who even got the gods to give Noctis their powers, she went around the world healing people, she even tried to save Ardyn, and yet the story barely focuses on her and greatly suffers for it.
But again, that disrespect for female characters seems to be a hold over from tetsuya nomura's style as can be seen in KH and FF7R.

The game design, and character development is so good among Noctis, Ignis, Gladio and Prompto however, that you can easily drop 400 hour sin this game and still have fun.

The best Final Fantasy game that I've ever played.
With fun and enjoyable gameplay, nice story, incredible graphics, epic summons, and much more.

I loved every single minute that I've spent for exploring the beautiful world of Eos, with the chocobos.
And the dungeons are easily the best of the entire series.
A great adventure and an epic Final Fantasy game.

Its framed as a love story yet the two lovers meet like two times. The world has the same feeling, many of the towns are just copy pasted from California with the same 5 NPCs walking around, despite monsters roaming the country side people live like they are in LA. The world is pretty but its just geometry, outside of the car there is little to do in it.

The characters are bland and hollow. They get little development in the main story and even less in the side content. The camp scenes are nice but the game gives you incentives you away from setting camp in the wild because you can get much more exp from sleeping at an inn. The major arcs and development for each are locked to $5 DLC each. The DLC features some of the best content in the game, but is scummy because that content should've been in the base game. You shouldn't have to pay an extra $15 to fix the problems the developers made.

The combat system is probably the worst part of the game. You can get through the entire game by holding down the attack button. There is little player choice when it comes to combat and it is easily broken and made trivial by simply carrying healing items. Its like using FFXIII's auto battle feature for the enitre game and not being able to do anything else, the combat is that bad.

The side content is terrible as well with most making no sense or literally using 3rd party asset monsters. How low can you go?

The gameplay is weird. You play as a skinny kid who does not know how to run and looks like an anime cartoon living in the real world. His main skill is throwing his sword and then teleporting to it. In an excruciating tutorial, you learn to teleport to enemies to attach and teleport to the ceiling for defense. You can also order your 3 friends to conduct a special attack every now and then. After a few hours, I learned the best tactic was to have my allies conduct their special attack when the giant bosses were starting their attack animations. Then the game became simple button mashing and grinding levels to make the boss fights easier.

The game world is inscrutable. The game in theory has an open world. What this really means is that there are large stretches of featureless, low texture terrain between cookie-cutter buildings. It also means roadblocks, cliff faces, and high walls to prevent the player from travelling out of the game area. Final Fantasy XV embraces the kind of open world we saw in the PS2 generation. There is little explanation of why people are fighting with swords in an age of guns and walking tanks. We also have no idea how people have cell phones and cars in a world that seems bereft of any kind of industry. There is mention of an asteroid that brought magic or whatever. After a 26 hour playthrough, I knew about as much as I did at the start of the game. The story is at least light on cutscenes for this type of game. There are few focused segments that tell the story through in-game dialogue and events. FYI, Square Enix, you can design a whole game where the story is told in-game.

I have the strong feeling that this game was supposed to have launched in the PS3 era. In addition to the low quality environments, some of the boss fights have subpar graphics. None of the areas feature many people, certainly nothing to level we've come to expect in the PS4 era. (Assassin's Creed Unity, which launched in 2014, had enormous crowds.) The gameplay is also severely limited for a game that has historically let players customize their parties. Development clearly went awry and the final product was not better for it. I have a strong feeling that the odd fighting system was implemented to help may the game few "new".

Total disclosure: I paid $2.50 for this game. Were I a fan of the series, I would have paid $60 to play on day one. Maybe because I am not a fan, my 26 hour playthrough was mostly confusing and off-putting. The gameplay was interesting enough to get me into the next fight but mostly in a grindy way that ensured the boss fight would be easier. (Though I do not like grinding, I find it preferable to dying and reloading.) I was also surprised to see little customization of the characters. This game is not so much an RPG as it is a fighting game with levels. I've played better fighting games with levels.

After 13 I thought it can't get any worse. Well, then came 15. I loved the graphics, fighting was kind of fun. Unfortunately the sidequests and characters rather annoying. BUT the core of the game, the core of what FF is about: the story was a disaster. When you spend tenth of Millions in production why not one million in a first class book or story writer? FF deserves it.

Combat system is fun only if there's one enemy involved and only if the battle takes place in a completely open space; otherwise it's a mess you can't follow, if you are luck enough to not have your view completely blocked by surroundings. All side quests are essentially "go collect ths resource for me or go kill this thing for me for no apparent reason". Also looking around to a specified area to collect random hidden stuff is no fun at all, and it happens way more often than one would expect. You know this is a bad game when its best aspect is how good the food looks, and it's best story part is a crossover non-canon mission inspired by a mobile phone game. Expand

Also the combat did have some issues and the story felt a bit short. However, what this game had going for it was the open world. I spent almost 20 hours if not more just running around in Lucis fishing, doing side quests, finding new dialogue, exploring every inch and finding cool stuff. All the character building came from just hanging out in the open world camping, doing and finding little quests, dungeons, practice fighting with Arenea and the bros, watching the pictures at the end of every day, etc. I spent almost 60 hours experiencing every inch of this game and I loved it. The story itself I found to be very impactful and beautiful. Great music, excellent graphics and environment design, and fun mechanics and things to explore. I do believe the game could have been a bit better but is by no means a bad game like others claim it to be. I recommend for everyone to take your time with this one and do not rush through it. FFXV is a frustrating game. There are positive aspects of it for sure, and I suspect most gamers will enjoy their time with it, but the things that weigh it down, really weigh it down.

The game is about 80% atmosphere and combat, 20% story. You get hit with a big exposition dump at the beginning of the game and then it's more or less open road until near the end. In other words, this very much isn't the typical FF formula. It's much more open world. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn't mesh well with telling a deep and compelling story.

    Story
Story is one of the biggest weaknesses in FFX. There are major story beats that fall short. Characters who are supposed to be major characters who you get one or two scenes with over the whole game. The villain's backstory is an exposition dump during his final fight with essentially no lead in. The game expects you to watch a companion film to understand part of the early plot, and it doesn't come with all versions of the game. Four major events from the story are taken out of the game so that Square Enix can sell them as DLC and they weren't even available at launch. These sections are not smooth in any way shape or form. In other words, the story is a trainwreck from start to finish, which is sad, because there are some interesting premises in it. The villain is, or seems like he would be, interesting. You don't get to know him, but he seems like the kind of villain you would like to get to know. Same thing with the love interest, and the mentor character. They all would have benefited from more screen time. There's also a lot of worldbuilding in this game, some of which actually comes through well, but most of which isn't super relevant to the game itself. The worldbuilding focusses on cities and politics and such, but most of the game takes place in barren wilderness, which is a bit of an odd back and forth. Of all the FF titles I've played, and I've played a lot, this is the one that probably needed the least complicated of a backstory to shape its overall premise, so the fact that they tried to go extremely complicated, and failed to come through, is a dissapointment.

    Combat
Combat is actually decent and is one of the highlights of the game. It looks amazing, but it feels only okay. Attacks aren't as weighty as I would like, and the later into the game you get the more you realize just how button mashy the core mechanics really are. There isn't as much complexity or strategy as you would generally expect from an FF title but it can still be enjoyable enough. The major combat hook is that you can teleport from location to location by throwing your weapons. It looks great and it's decently useful. I've heard complaints about the boss fights but I think most of them are about as good as you could hope given the simple combat mechanics. I enjoyed my time fighting Aeons in particular.

    Atmosphere
This is where the game lives, and is the main reason that the game isn't just a dumpster fire. You have three companions which you start the game with, and you'll never get more. Each has a compelling personality and defining features. Only one has much of a meaningful backstory, but that's back to the story issues. The group chats amongst itself as you play, commenting on everything. They all have useful skills related to being in the great outdoors, photography, and cooking, and you are generally just roaming from town to town, camping in the wilderness, fishing, and hanging out. It's got a good feel to it. Whereas most FF games are entirely combat based, this one almost feels like it has a separate thing going for it in addition to the combat. This is the one aspect of the game that I think really just works. There's a general Southern America vibe to the whole worldspace that really just resonates with what you are doing. It's portrayed in the NPCS, the music, and the architecture, and it all just generally works.

Of course, then you get into the cities and it's back to typical JRPG high fantasy, and honestly, it's a bit of a dissapointment because the cities are so much less innovative or interesting than the outlands.

So that's what you end up with, a game with an inconsistently good worldspace / atmosphere, decent combat, and the makings of a decent story but rough pacing and storytelling and some questionable marketing decisions surrounding locking parts of the main plot behind DLC and the Collector's Edition.

The consent of calling down the gods is bad*** in the story until you realize the option to do it comes up so often in battle you don’t even need to fight sometimes and should have just been a cutscene only thing, and your friends become real jerks near the end and most of their plots are in DLC.

The gameplay is mostly just fetch quests that require you to spend time walking through empty, brown landscapes to get an item or kill a monster and come back. If the battles were better it would be more forgiving but it is most just getting out of dodge to heal, mashing X, and repeating.

Yeah the music and graphics are good, but if you are just playing for those then just go watch a movie instead.

Game is so bad I couldn't finish it, forced myself to play through it over and over and it is so boring, so tedious, such a waste of time that I couldn't finish it. I got to the new city and I still found myself not caring, uninstalled and moved on.

This game definitively has it flaws. The story starts slow and altogether you can feel the troublesome development of the game. The two reasons I really like this game are the lovely characters and the strong emotional moments. Play the DLCs. They are mandatory for character development.

Half finished story, mediocre game mechanics and characters. Don’t recommend this is the 2nd worst entry in the franchise next to FF13.

I can only guess that the people that voted this with positive scores never played through the entire game.

I initially played this at launch and after 20 some hours shelved it. 3.5 years later I picked it up again with the object of completing it only to find out the last half of the game was unfinished and rushed to release like many SquareEnix games in the last 3 or so years.

The Graphics are the best part of this remake. It doesn't feel like the original, you only get a small portion of the original game for full price and stretched with boring fillerquests to make it feel longer... Feels like a very good demo, but not something yoy are supposed to pay for.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. i really didn't like that "just us pals" feel of the game. i always end up turning voice volume down eventually in games, and this is one of the fastest in a while. driving or walking anywhere will stuff meaningless and repetitive banter down your throat. putting that aside, a lighthearted adventure between friends seems like a really dumb thing to do after your father was killed and your kingdom crushed. enemies are a nuisance. seriously. i don't know which is worse, the seemingly endless fetch quests, or the literally endless spawning enemies that try to get in your way. the world is too big and if you're trying to get anywhere that isn't part of the main road you need to sprint, BUT there's a virtually meaningless stamina bar. if you time it right, your stamina bar completely refills. all this serves to do is keep you from falling asleep while trying to get places you can't with your car. trust me, there are plenty of those. finally, when they steal your car. they steal your car! even if it's only temporary, it's like they took the best part of the game away from you and force you to walk/sprint literally everywhere until you get it back. As for first timers, well, for this game I do feel a bit like a newbie, as the combat is so unlike any other FF game. I say that, but as I continue playing it does begin to feel like a stripped down FF XIII: Lighting returns (let the Horror of that sink in). Against one enemy (even a boss) combat is pathetically easy, against multiple enemies it's a chaotic mess. Magic is impossible to use without hitting your allies, so it just turns into a melee-fest.
The game itself feels like Squares attempt at a Skyrim like rpg, this may be a good idea but I wouldn't call such a game a Final Fantasy.
I will say this about it, the grapics and settings are beautiful.
For anyone who wants an old-school jrpg this is not it. For anyone who wants a sandbox rpg there are better options, for those who the the offspring of these two, what the hell is wrong with you?!

what really concerns me is from the way story told,it gave me a vibe:

    1. that there's only 2 country in the whole planet(i know there's more but they didn;t tell much about it and they didn't state their stand in this war between nifflheim and noctis' country)

2.they have modern technology, they even have smartphone, camera and radio...how come the news didn't spread around the world and another country condemned Nifflheim?

    3.how come there's no United Nation-like organization?

    4. there's no history about civilization of these country in FF 15 (don;t tell me something like " play the DLC" i'm talking about the main game,if it need dlc just to explain the plot holes, then it's a failed game (story-wise at least),no doubt)

5.they sacfrice the story for the expansive open world and "other stuff",please,it's far better if you limit the open world stuff and add more to the story,if i want to play "Wasteland Open world game" i'll play fallout instead.

6.they should take example on FF XII or Trails Series on how to make more real Political problem as the main story.

7.FF XV Story is too shallow,it's really lacking in depth. they don't really put attention to the small detail of the story.as i said in the beginning,if a smal detail executed rightly,it could add more to the universe of FF XV and people can more relate to the story

to balance things out,FF XV is actually enjoyable.if it were another game, not FF i would definitely score it higher

    Pros
    -action fighting style
    -vast Open world enviroenment
    -Cool map design

    Cons:
-lackluster story(for ff fans, just know that its a disaster)
-too much effort for less reward on quests
    -too many sidequests(boring repeating ones)
-the flying ship is total cancer since you have to reload the game
    -loading times are insane
    -spam-able bs mechanics
-rpg mechanics dont matter(changing weapond makes no sense cuz the strongest weapon will always be the best one to use)
-combos arent really a thing since your only input is the left stick...so,not a good action combat system.

All in all I wished they would've sticked to the original gameplay and such,it was much more appealing to me and others as well as we see on the amount of negatives here.
Considering that the game made most of its sales within a week after release its probably the hype that sold the game, not the game itself.

Sure the devs worked hard and all but hard work doesnt justify a mediocre product.
They already HAD a good concept on their hands, they could've just used that since it apparently had its content finished writing in 2010.

So yeah...they gave us a worse product even tho a good one already existed. They deserve the negative reviews.

Man, there are always more and more haters nowadays. Most of the negative reviews are people saying they are FF fans and blaming everything because the game wasn't what they expected. Unfortunately they must understand that people change (and also Square's public). I am a FF fan and played most of them. I was introduced to the RPG games in Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. I didn't even knew what RPG was that time. After some time I played FF VII and that one got me. Liked most of them from VI to X (part 1, forget part 2). And after that all of them (offline) were disappointing to me.

FF XV was the only one that tried to go back and focus on a good history (at least a little). I'm not saying was the best and Square could really explore A LOT more of the history (even on all the other characters). There were a lot of gaps and after chapter 8 it seems that they rushed to finish the game. It's obvious they focused mainly on the friendship instead of explaining more of the villain, the empire, all the other characters and even Luna. They tried to do a LOT of new things like fishing, car travel, food, minigames in-game that I really liked, but I'd trade it for more history. That was the only thing that made this FF not perfect for me. Some bugs ALL games can have, even more with open world and with dynamic fight, I don't focus on the little problems. Seems like those negative "Fans" plays the game just to search for problems.

I am realistic, you can't compare this game with others. But this was one of the most realistic and dark story of Final Fantasy. It's one of the only FF that people die (not just one), get hurt, are bad, mean, scared. This game shows that some actions have consequences. If you want to do something very difficult it has a price. It's not like most of them that they all get out of a war unharmed.

If this game could explain more of the history with DLCs it's going to be awesome.
    Summing up:
    + Reality
+ Battle (the only dynamic FF I really liked)
+ Friendship (the story is totally based on the friendship of the 4 of them)
    + Minigames and extra stuff
+ Graphics (Summons chilled me every time with more then only one animation per summon)
    + Dungeons
    - Lack of explanation (could expand and explain a lot more of the story, rushed from mid to end)
    - Too much secondary quests instead of main quest with few history (just make something for a person without a good history to make it most of the time)
    - Lack of characters. They focus so much in the 4 of them but I think it could be more characters involved (like Aranea, Iris and some others with more history on them). This is the first FF with so few characters.

The only nice thing I have to say is that it's easily one of the most gorgeous games out there right now. Couldn't get myself to skip even a single cutscene because that's where FFXV really shines. Everything else though, SE should be ashamed to be associated with.

No extra characters really except maybe a sexualized mechanic with boobs on your window, yep thats bad.

At the first point of no return, i felt like the game was over, that boatride to Altissia made me think something weird was going on with this game and sure enough: Time Travel.
Probably the worst idea Squeenix can come up with.
I really enjoyed the pace of the story until then, Titan was my favorite part.

I like this game and put 100 hours into and enjoyed maybe 40-50 hours of it, the rest i regret playing honestly.
Example the menu is super offputting and the battle system, repeatitive side quests and nothing to do but jump around blue shinies because they failed to have seperate buttons for picking up treasure and jumping and chocobos cant even pick treasures, which makes the chocobo travelling so much worse.

Even X-2 has arguably the best battle system in the whole franchise but this one has to be the poorest, i mean you cant die !
Way too easy and the camera goes everywhere. The staff even know the flaws so they tried to fix it but they couldnt.
I rate the extra chapters alot higher than the game, also the Kingsglaive movie and the Youtube episodes. All were amazing and got me pumped for this game but its just failed miserably.
Episode Prompto was the best thing in this game, i give that one 9/10, i mean its supposed to be short but its so well done, i wish they did the same thing with the game except just rehash areas and another gas station.

On a Final note, what makes FF great is the music, characters, storyline, crazy battle mode, customizations, exploration, travelling by land or flight and so many things to do but this game tried and failed.

    1. Music was decent, i will not bash that but it wasnt amazing, however they did add MP3 which was a fantastic idea, so music wise, sure they tackled that one.

    2. Characters were only 4 in the game, there wasnt alot of other people. I mean sure without going into confusing plotholes, antagonists were a few, and one of them showed up often. But all in all, not rich in character building or interactions, except between the 4 and the antagonist harassing them.
You see interesting NPC's but its very shallow, thats why i liked the extra episodes because Cor and Aranea got alot of screentime.

3.Storyline is super promising, especially due the movies and episodes earlier but it falls flat and has so many plotholes and random things its ridiculous. Staff tried to fix it but didnt succeed since its already been released and its a mess. Regarding the end however, it was a decent fix.

All in all i liked the game 40%, but the the only way to die in this game is by flying the Regalia, it was the only challenge in the game and new Game plus would be even easier since enemies will still be pathetically weak.
And the loading times are so bad, im pretty sure no FF game has ever had loading problems but this one sure has them.
Honestly if those would be fixed and the jump button while picking up treasure, along with harder enemies on new game plus, i would rate the game maybe 7.

I don't think I've ever been so happy with a game just to have it turn on a dime.

This game in the first few chapters was excellent. Up through chapter 3 or 4 or so. Truly great. But in its greatness, it was kind of like season 1 of Lost, where it opens up this great intrigue that you think will at some point be answered. But it just never is. I don't know what the developers of this were thinking, but I've literally never seen a game take such a turn. I'd give this a ten until chapter 4, chapters 5-9 probably an 8 or maybe a 9, and chapters 10-13 a 1. Just unenjoyable nonsense that I stopped playing (apparently) an hour or two before the end.

    - Well-told story
    - Well-thought-out world
    - Intriguing characters
    - Intelligent character actions/motivations
    - Multi-dimensional villains
    - Intelligent strategy-based combat

I bought the game over a year ago, played about two hours then, and realized at that time that it had nothing for me. It looked graphically outdated, so I waited until now, when I got a PS4 Pro to force myself to finish the game. And, there was a steady stream of disappointment throughout, beating the game in 17 hours, doing almost none of the optional side quests.

The combat system is simply dumb. I miss the times in X where you could intelligently use magic, character rotations, equipment variations, enemy weaknesses, and special skills to take down enemies that would be otherwise impossible though just auto-attacking. But in XV, auto-attacking, using potions, and cinematic button-presses gets you though everything. They chose style over substance here, which I suppose makes sense now that Final Fantasy is mainstream.

The world makes no sense. It's great that they've got magical airships, ancient stone cities, and trailer parks all in the same game, but there's a lack of worldbuilding and exposition that would allow a skeptical person accept this. Overpowered monsters roaming around within walking distance of small settlements (with no protection) full of people also make no sense. They could have at least posted some high-level guards outside of these.

The main characters are okay, I suppose, but required that you either like or accept the millennial way of life. You're basically playing as a millennial who mopes around, being seemingly dragged by his friends to complete his duties. And he experiences no growth at all through any of this. Well not until that near-end point where he suddenly loses his millennial tendencies with little reason as to why.

The main story is not very cohesive. It primarily consists of obtaining relics and god powers so that you can become the next king. Yeah, no studying, understanding of the people you'll govern, or improving the lives of your people. Just picking up things. And you don't find out until near the end that you needed all of those relics and powers to defeat the main villain. How convenient.

The main villain makes no sense. He seems to want to kill you, but instead strings you along and makes you suffer throughout your thing-collection journey. It's like he's not a real person, but simple plot tool to keep the story going.

As for some of the main plot points, it takes powerful moments from the Final Fantasy franchise and throws them in here half-assed. If you've played all of the previous games, you'll know them when you see them. I was shocked how how simple and lacking of depth they were. The story is simply not well-told. I sometimes think that because of the time spent making the story, the creators got so used to the world and lore, that they inadvertently left out important facts and information that someone new to the world needs to know to understand what's happening.

So yeah, that's it. This is one of the worst games I've ever played. I guess I'm just old now and don't understand what kids like these days...

All the selling points from Versus13 have been cut out, a lot of CG scenes and trailer locations have been cut out, and the post launch support is very disjointed - making it impossible to experience the whole story without resorting to external sources of media (movie, anime, comics, light novels, mobile games, demos, VR games etc). The other issue is that characters outside the main four lack development or motivation explanations. The second half of the game was also meant to be open world, but tight development deadlines resulted in lots of cut content. Lastly the visuals, while great in some parts, have been downgraded from the build of the game we saw in trailers and demos. So despite the mindless grind being kinda fun for a while, the rushed and weak story, cut content, and inability to have the entire lore of this world confined to the game disc makes this game a below average experience as far as other video games and especially other Final Fantasies go. 6/10 Expand

My big problem is the story! The whole world is not fleshed out right, feels empty, none of the NPCs care about what is going on at all. The plot is shallow and makes little sense. We get no back story for most characters, the bare minimum for others. The villain is mediocre at best. The ending was a big disappointment, as well.
I hope with the next FF they will focus on the story and characters again, instead of the open world feature.

The combat is stupidly brain dead. It's basically hold down x and heal from time to time, and win. That seriously is it.

The usage of assets, and random product placement like the cup noodles is unneeded and it feels as if the game is a conglomerate of random ads.

The story sucks. It's supposed to be a story of adventure and freedom, yet some of the moments which are supposed to be the most impactful like Noctis's dad being dead just doesn't mean sh!t. He just learns about it from a paper, and that's about it.

The DLC/merchandising practices oh god almighty....
Well the fact that the rest of the episodic DLC arcs got sh!tcanned doesn't help, but the fact that they were episodic is a problem FOR THIS EXACT REASON. Next thing was making important plot/story points either from that anime, the movie, or some other bullsh!t SE decided to do.

Overall this game is a mediocre disappointment with awful practices, and we waited 10 years for this sh!t?

FFXV without chocobos and summos doesnt really feel a final fantasy game anymore. I know things adapt or change or it might just be since the game on release was incomplete. The story never moved me. Luna got so little screen time that she felt like a one time character in a series or an anime. Just inserted to give the main character some motivation.

Side content are also bland. And putting the character development of the other 3 behind a pay wall is just icing to the disappointing cake of FFXV.

These incomplete and paid extra episodes is not a good sign for the upcoming FF7 remake which I wont play until it is complete, probably by 2025. Lesson learned here in FFXV.

It's complicated to review a game that was teased more like an event or an experience, I fell in Square Enix's trap and I eat all the media that came before the game: movie and anime episodes, so my time with the game was pretty positive in regards of lore and story. With that in mind, my review goes as follows:

First things first, the mood of the game it's perfect, it starts as a best friends road trip and that feeling of adventure and friendship never gets old, the sound team made an amazing job making every sound feel almost real, things like footsteps, rain, forests at night, even the sounds of the Regalia (your car) when closing or open its door, it may sound dumb but the immersion and the feeling of traveling with friends through the sound design it's outstanding, it also makes the Regalia like a 5th companion to your adventure. Which leds us to another great topic, your party, the developers took the great decision of making a small party that always accompanies you, they feel real and their dialogues are so detailed and at times silly that only helps to build a real bond with them, there's no need to watch the anime episodes about them but it sure helps to stablish and understand some things related to their personality or bond with Noctis, speaking of Noctis, at first I taught that I was going to hate this guy because of his "generic character and design" but the truth is that I really like it, I understood his feelings and decisions, also I firmly believe that is necessary to play this game with japanese audio, I'm not a big fan of the english dub, its not bad but not great, also is pretty noticeable that they took a lot of liberties with Noctis, they feel like complete different persons, where the Japanese is kind of introvert, sweetheart and silly, the English one sounds more stoic, "cool" and it kinda tries to be Cloud, so at least for me, that it's a big no, no. As for the supporting cast, there are some cool characters like Aranea or Lunafreya, they're good but not as good as our main villain, I won't spoil anything but as for me, at least he is now a top tier antagonist on Final Fantasy franchise.

I really liked how Square Enix dished out unnecessary complex and convoluted stories like the one presented in the first installment of FFXIII, instead, we have a simple "reclaim your throne" kind of story that works for the best, I really liked a lot of the twists and turns, I have no issue with that, but its worth note that there are major events hinted through the game that are just hinted but really important to the overall plot, mainly things in the movie and stuff that happens in the Episode DLCs, its not that they felt so necessary to the plot but they sure feel like holes, speaking of holes, the game has a nice rhythm and passing until you arrive at a point of no return (at 3/4 of the game more or less), it feels rushed and suffers a lot of breaking the immersion.

As for the gameplay, I have mixed feelings about it, first, is very simple and enjoyable, at times almost addicting, its simplicity compensates with its flashiness and fast passing action, my only problem is that the HP system it's broken, you can kill almost everything if you have enough potions so in order to enjoy it you must put a rule of limited potions, but then again that's a thing that was meant to be solved by the designers, not you. Another negative aspect is the side questing, the world map is massive and so beautiful, it's accompanied by a masterfully crafted soundtrack led by no other than Yoko Shimomura (which make instant classic songs for this already filled with classics franchise), but it kind of feels empty at times, the only thing that makes you do any quests is for the combat, which maybe is no the cup of tea for everyone but it's very fun.

In the end, the negative aspects didn't were overweighted by the positive ones, its characters felt to me like real friends and its twists and turns were for the most part very interesting and enjoyable, as for the ending, it has a heavy punch that reminded me why I prefer storytelling in videogames over other media.

This was a game I dearly wanted to love. I played it right through to the end when I'd have happily given up and moved on had it been any other game than a Final Fantasy instalment. So what are the problems?

The graphics are actually quite nice. I really enjoyed observing the environments and the photo mode brought this to the forefront. The downside is that it takes too long to traverse the environments without fast travel, which undermines them quite a bit.

The gameplay is also going to divide fans, old and new. No longer turn-based, the game borders on action-oriented more than RPG, however it fails to achieve either of these. You can simply hold the attack button and have fights progress basically on autopilot. There are block and parry options, however these are rather inconsistent and in busier battles you will lose track of what's happening. Also, magic has been reduced to just a 'weapon' wielded by any character rather than encouraging the development of a mage. Maybe they wanted to simplify the game, but all they achieved here was encouraging people to ignore magic completely; at least, that's how I reacted.

Finally, the story. I kept this to last as it will contain SPOILERS and is my biggest gripe. It seems since FFX they just cannot capture a good story. It starts off quite well, however by the midway point it becomes muddled, uninteresting and left me completely unsatisfied. How have they not learned from FFX and FF13 that killing off protagonists is never well received? Other than the Tidus issue, FFX had it perfect - we learned the story gradually and developed feelings and attachments alongside Tidus. The later chapters leave the impression that the game was created in chunks and thrown together none too cohesively.

Overall, I struggle to recommend this game. FF aficionados will want to find out what they are missing, much like myself. However my fears were realised about 10 hours into the game when hunts and fetch-quests became the central formula, and the open-world wasn't always open or accessible - in the later chapters you can't traverse it at all! Still, the current cheap price makes it worth a bash, and if you don't mind the repetitiveness then you could clock up some serious hours in this. I just think there are much better offerings out there.

Unfortunately the game was really rushed through and missed a lot of story and character to be considered a full game. Square tried to fix it with some additional DLCs but there were too late and too little. The game had a great concept and potential but it failed on the story content as there just wasn't enough for it be considered a great game.
Another thing that was flawed was the combat system. While it was flashy and beautiful, it lacked any real challenge. I felt immortal which took away the challenging fun side of gaming as you could beat anyone if you only fought them long enough.

I didn't love the game, but wouldn't say I particularly hated it either. Didn't really find any of the characters that like-able or compelling. And the random overhead drop ship encounters with enemies can get really tedious. On completion I still had a lot left in the world to discover, but didn't really feel interested enough to bother. All in all quite a forgettable experience.

I have a love-hate relationship with this game.
It's somehow the most amazing game and the worst game at the same time.
It has so many great concepts, so much potential, but yet so many short comings. FFXV was a development hell, and you can tell that it was. That's right, the game is incomplete... My love gives it a 10 and my hate give it a 5. My real score is 7.5, but I rounded it

FFXV turned out to be a mediocre game that could have easily been a game of the year title...

This is not a Final Fantasy game. I have played all the games of the series, they have evolved. But they had always a strong story well explained. This is not the case. The only good unexpected surprise: Episode Prompto DLC. Expand

By far the worst in the series. Final Fantasy is renowned for its diverse characters and worlds, in FF15 there are only 4, and they look like a Japanese boy band all sporting similar dark coloured outfits. Very little thought went into the character designs this time. As for their characters, they’re pretty generic and uninteresting.
The combat is just boring, you’ll spend a lot of your time mashing only 2 buttons and there’s very little preparation spells or buffs that are actually useful. I basically button mashed through the second half of the game as I became aware of how shallow the combat is, the game became a chore to play.
The open world, is just as disappointing as the generic characters, bland and barren with the occasional small “town” not once was I impressed with the world.
The story simply doesn’t make sense, and I don’t mean it’s cryptic, there are literally huge plot holes, unexplained circumstances that really ought to have been, it’s obvious the developers ran out of time and didn’t actually finish the game.
As for mini games, fishing is quite good fun! In fact, the fishing was my favourite part! But that’s it for mini games that are actually fun.
To conclude, FF15 in my opinion, is not a Final Fantasy game, it’s a broken wannabe FF game that tried to appeal to a broader, more casual gamer but ended up a complete mess.

From the outset that I do not compare it to the other previous final fantasy games, but the game is not bad, on certain occasions you could expect more, especially from the plot that is a bit weak. like gameplay and graphics but we are at the top. Present some bugs but nothing excessive. overall good I highly recommend it, longevity is above average, numerous minigames and lots to do inFrom the outset that I do not compare it to the other previous final fantasy games, but the game is not bad, on certain occasions you could expect more, especially from the plot that is a bit weak. like gameplay and graphics but we are at the top. What a really underwhelming game. From early on it's obvious that the formula was created first, then they tried to wrap a story-line over the framework. Also I found the battle and magic systems simplistic and boring.

The open world is fun, and I enjoyed the interactions between the four lads. That is until the repeated dialogue began to grate. There must have been 50 recipes for Ignis to learn, and for each one he recites this same line, followed up with "I'll taste test for you." Each time! The witty dialogue that the team have throughout the world is soon repeated over and over, removing any sense of realism.

The most frustrating part is the overall story. There isn't one. It's the most bare-bones story I've ever seen in an RPG, especially a FF game. We get introduced to a love interest through 2 or 3 cut-scenes, and are expected to care about her. Once she does turn up you couldn't care less about her relationship to Noct. The whole thing is a mess, but frustratingly it had potential. With a better writer in place this could have been a world worth delving into.

Another huge gripe I have is the side quests. They are the most simplistic I've ever come across. Be it the "find me more dog tags," or the "take this photo," they're the laziest type of fetch quests you'll ever see. There isn't one single side quest that I'll remember 6 months from now.

The sub-characters are given nothing in terms of character growth. There's a point where one of the pals looks like he might betray you, then by the next chapter it's not even a thing any more. There's a hint that one character might have a link to something supernatural, then it's confirmed in the last few chapters, then left alone. It's so incidental that it's barely even a sub-plot. And the final lad gets nothing. I believe these sub-plots are delved into in DLC, but I'm not having that.

I'll always remember the Barrett story-line in VII where he has to fight his old friend for his daughter, and the Auron story-line from X (no spoilers, just play it if you haven't). It's a shame this game didn't have something similar.

There are some great little touches in this game. Placto taking pictures as you go along is a lot of fun, and being able to save your favourites is a nice touch. The cooking aspect is also cool, and pushes you into finding harvest spots to try to come up with new recipes. It's just a shame that these fun innovations came in such a lacklustre game.

Final Fantasy 7 and 10 are two of my most beloved games. To see this as the evolution of the genre is incredibly disheartening. I hope the next instalment focused on story rather than a gimmick.

The reason i gave 7 for this game is for the below:
Pros: - The open world -New gameplay that stands out of previous FF turn based action combat and more like a kingdom harts style - NPCs looks ok for an RPG game - Graphics are good in general - voice acting is on spot for a JRPG - high level dungeons is where FFXV excels the most.
Cons: -Camera angles with big bosses can be frustrating

to each other - quests are all the same, get a quest from an NPC and slay monsters - Camp to exp can be annoying at times as you may end up camping and sleeping in different locations for you to save progress. - Royal weapons consumes HP, so you can not use them all the time. -Noct can be a jerk at times and not well synchronized with his team. - vast word is empty at times and seem unfinished.

After so many years of development, Final Fantasy XV is not what I expected it to be. The universe is immense and beautiful and the characters are just fine. But the story is short and disappointing and the gameplay suffers from lack of depth. FFXV is a good game, but it can never bring the former glories back to the series.

Even as you reflect on the rarity of a blockbuster that's willing to take real risks, you'll be left with the uncomfortable realisation that ten years wasn't quite long enough, after all. Those jagged edges are, in the end, just a little too sharp. [Feb 2017, p.110]

Despite a divided feel, torn between what it was and what it plans to be, Final Fantasy XV has a lot to offer. If you're a diehard JRPG fan, then it's a positive sign that the series can cross over to a new format. And if you're just looking for an open world adventure, Final Fantasy XV certainly has that in spades, while doing just enough things differently to separate it from the likes of Dragon Age and Elder Scrolls.
