Truly this was a unique experience one can only get by not just playing the story, but exploring the world as much as possible doing as many quests as they can along the way. If you only focus on the story, you're looking at a small corner of a wide canvas. On a note about the story though, I must say once again, they did something that's never been done before. While it's not how I would have wanted things to go, that doesn't make the writing bad to me, on the contrary I respect the unique style of story they tried to tell that they could only capture with the 'Road Trip' experience. Also, props to them for creating easily the most evil villain of the franchise's history. I've never loved to hate a character more in any form of fiction.

In short, this was not my favorite Final Fantasy game, but it could be argued to be the greatest. It's not a perfect game, but it is an amazing one worth the 10 years we waited. Here's to a bright future for the franchise!

The recipe for a great game is not impossible to make but the chefs forgot to put the soul it needed, or should I say, they stupidly fought 10 years over a simple recipe. They wanted to make a great apple pie and ended up with an overcooked pie with no apples.

It's sad to see producers forcing to make this franchise something that it's not. And why take out the story from the game and place it in an anime series & a movie???!!! I really enjoyed the anime series but left the game story very dry.

I'm looking forward with hope that someday Final Fantasy will be it's self again; not in a nostalgic way, but in a high way.

If you have time to enjoy a story driven game with beautiful graphics, animations, and deep combat I whole heartedly recommend FFXV. Maybe for a bit beefier computers, i will update this post to how it runs when i upgrade my processor in march. Seriously recommended game.

During my playthrough of this game, I went from "this is a pretty good game" to "this is awesome" to "this isn't as good as I originally thought" to "it's a meh game" to "its awesome" to "its pretty good"

Keep in mind this is the 1st final fantasy game I've ever played. So many good and bad things conflict with each other. But the game is still very enjoyable

The combat, the story, the characters, the open world, the game, is absolutely everything! When I started the game, I never stopped because it got me hooked! This game is one of my favorites. The story is remarkable, the open world is extraordinary, and the characters are awesome. This is one of the most outstanding JRPG games I've ever played.

It is one of the worst games I've ever played with PS4.
Good things are music, fishing and that's it.
    Boring, Laggy, terrbile character design...
A number of good things from other games but degraded.
It feels like that it has a lot of big holes in plot.
and even if there are no holes in plot? story is just trash.

The characters are fine but not exceptional and, tbh, the inal boss is meh at best.

One more critic I'd have is the post-game quests, the bonus dungeons (the ones that go underground) are bo-ring. Awfully so.

I'm definitely a bit biased with my score for this game, because a big reason I rated this highly is that I was really blown away by how beautiful the game is. I've only been a PS4 owner for a short while so I might be overrating this, but I was just so drawn in by the visualsI'm definitely a bit biased with my score for this game, because a big reason I rated this highly is that I was really blown away by how beautiful the game is. Many of the other game fundamentals were either pretty good or at least solid enough to not be annoying. The combat started off new and inventive, although parts of it weren't all that great and by the end I was fairly bored with it. The side quests were pretty average. Voice acting and facial animation was pretty good imo. And the story and characters were mostly competent, although the pacing in particularly wasn't great.

But the biggest thing I felt during this game, and the reason I'm giving it a 9, is that I thought this game did an excellent job of getting the player to often just put down the controller and observe the world. Even in vast open world games, we spend most of our time running through them and often only admiring their beauty while we are busy doing other things. But this game did a great job of replicating the feeling of just driving in a car through beautiful scenery, not taking too much time to worry about what comes next but instead just focusing on what you're seeing outside. I think that this is easily one of the hardest things for games to do well - most of us don't want to take the time to smell the roses when we're playing video games, we want to be continuously occupied by either the story or by doing actions in the game world. But this game really did a fantastic job of bringing me back to that feeling of being on a car trip in a new location, that I almost never get from gaming.

The combat just doesn't work at all, it's annoyingly slow and is seriously dull, some of the things you fight fairly early on just one shot you and then you have to hide behind a rock and wait for Ignis to heal you. The story is actually boring as hell, where so far I have driven to a gas station, fixed the car, driven down to a beach to catch a boat, not caught the boat and driven to some random city and then entered a cave behind a waterfall. The characters are seriously dull with three of them being the most uninteresting people ever and Promptus providing a couple of primary school jokes now and then. I cannot understand why people play this game. I have the Royal Edition and haven't played any of the DLC yet, which I'll probably get round to but it just strikes me that this game isn't a Final Fantasy game. Where are the cool steampunk sci-fi cities and boss fights? If anyone wants to give me a good reason to keep playing then holla back. Expand

I didn't update the game because I have limited GB in my home so I found some problems that probably are fixed such: lag two times in a battle vs one boss, the face of one person in a city had two different heads and at the end of the game again with a boss I jumped and suddenly everything was dark while the battle kept going so I had tot restart the game. But again, I guess this is already fixed. Sometimes it can be boring driving the car or just watching the car moving without anything to do. So you feel you are wasting your time although sometimes you can skip this if you go directly to parkings but there are only a few and they're in the middle of nowhere. The map looks awkwardly outdated. A part from this you start with many sidequests that are really not interesting but you can do a few to earn experience, objects and money, but dont' get obssesed with this and follow the main missions because the driving thing is tedious. Gameplay is ok you only need to move, dodge, and attack although I felt like pressing buttons with not knowing much what I was doing except for one technique. I finished the game in 31 and a half hours so it's quite short for being a ff but I didn't mind. Which I really missed was more scenes or things to help you follow the story. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The developer seemed to think the car (Regalia) was going to add some sort of value to the story but all it does is slow things down. When completing quests, who wants to sit for 5 minute in real time just waiting for the characters to drive to their location?

Combat is horrible as well. Final Fantasy's best games have all utilized strategic turn-based combat. With each new iteration since FFX they keep moving more and more toward timed button-press combat. That's not what made the series so successful - why do it? They need to go back to FF VII, IX, and X and look at what made those games gems. The direction they're going in couldn't be worse.

Square (the Squaresoft part of SE, or the little that is left of it) is without direction. So what do they do? They turn back to an old FF that was not quite as classic as its 2 predecessors. That's wright, I'm talking about Final Fantasy 8. What's that? What does FFVIII have anything to do with FFXV, you say? Well, let's see:

    - Angsty main character who likes to "Meh" and shrug for dear life? Check!
    - Enigmatic naive blonde with parakeet hairdo? Check!
    - Authoritative bespeckeled traveler who speaks a lot more than protagonist and should probably be the main character because of this? Check! (Oh... I meant Ignist of course... and Quistis, and yeah)
    - Buff dude with "take no prisoners" attitude? Check! (Think of Gladiolus as Seifer, had he been "good" from the start)
    - Cutesy short-haired girl who appears after about 3-4 hours of play? Check! (Iris)
    - Mystical character connected to mystical things and stuff? Check. (Gentiana aka Shiva... aka Edea)
    - High-ranking love match for the protagonist who is more emotive and has more military sense than protagonist? Check! Check! Check!

Now we put these into a futuristic world where the main heroes dress like cadets, and we turn the protagonist into an orphan by killing his father after never really spending much time seeing their relationship in the first place...... and we have them drive in a car for their first official trip out of Homeland.......... and we have points where elemental magic can be drawn........ and we make sure the first place they visit is more of a quickstop than an actual town...... and then we take the car away for a bit....

Oh dear.................................. this whole game WAS modeled after Final Fantasy VIII. No wonder they decided not to do an HD remake of that one. They didn't want people to see the similarities.

Okay, so let's do a quick rundown of the good and bad:

    Good:
    -Music
    -Visuals
    -Map Design
    -Battle Mechanics
-Attempt at "realistic" fan service for both genders (it is a JRPG after all)
    -Anime-like tropes in a non-anime package
-Inventive beast/monster spawns (except those they just rehashed from FFVII: Advent Children; like the dog things)
-Nice fauna ideas (esp. the animals you DON'T need to kill)
    -Vehicle Customization
-Random encounters with SPOILER ALERT ... Galbadian Troops!!.... (to be fair, this has been Square's go-to since FFVI on the SNES.... it's just a representation of the US/Western Powers and their over-militarization for pretty much everything)

    Bad:
-Story is bland (the various DLC "Episodes" were actually sometimes better than FFXV itself); FFXII, whose story I dislike for being lifted from Star Wars, actually has a better story
-Character Design is uninspired... this is a game released for 2016, not 1996... we need to move on.
-Not really an open-world game at release... yeah yeah, off-road tires update later added, but now my vehicle looks like a tractor
-Bugs for enemy spawns (this is particularly a PS4 issue, as I have the game also on PC and it is not a problem)
-Fishing (Ocarina of Time nailed what it meant to fish in a non-fishing game... Noctis will never beat my 34lbs. Hylian Loach! and....)
-Photography (Pokemon Snap! nailed this one......... okay that's a joke, the photo stuff is pretty cool, but on a more serious note
-Cooking....... because you can't actually cook.... but more importantly, although it's becoming a trend in Japan to show realistic dishes in games and anime, it's sort of a weird thing everywhere else in the world.... like, we don't care unless the game itself is realistic... for example, Witcher 3 or Kingdom Come: Deliverance, which both attempt certain levels of realism. Final Fantasy has never been realistic to us... except maybe FFVII and VIII

    Anyway... that's that.

Buy this game on sale if you haven't already. It's not worth more than $30.

Not really open world. Car driving? Huge loading times. Annoying repetitive trash sidequests.

Worst story of all the final fantasties. If a middle schooler wrote this, he'd get a C+ at best. It's less a story and more an outline of a story.

    An unbelievable failure.

    Recomendado.

Final Fantasy XV is a game that not only manages to disappoint fans on a colossal level, but the game industry itself.

its a perfect example on how regardless how bad a game can be, people will still buy it based off the brand name itself, even if the game is terrible. Square enix is capitalizing on emotions and its unacceptable.

The game is great, and includes many fun features with great quests and many things to do. Though there are many lacking qualities that make it any better. Like for example the mazes can be very annoying. The graphics and sound, and character development is absolutely astonishing. Personally, one of my favourite games.

I do not understand all of the hate towards this game. I can understand the wait but the continuous criticism of the gameplay sickens me. In other games, such as the Resident Evil franchise, there have been sporadic change in gameplay that revolutionized and gave life to the series. I feel that this gameplay change from turned based combat to real time combat is brilliant and outstanding.

When you have many other titles in development, lack of development thinking this would be apart of FFXIII as a side story and a rebranding, an engine change and next gen development would make a game sidetracked to 10 years in development. With that being said, was it worth the wait?

ABSOLUTELY! The game has its flaws, but it shows new LIFE in the Final Fantasy series, now we can turn away from the turned based combat and indeed move with other things and I would like to see more of this real time combat in the series. The REAL TIME COMBAT is what really got me interested in playing this title to completion. An adult version and Final Fantasy version of Kingdom Hearts is what I had thought about this game at first.

The storyline of the game is incredible until the end as I feel that the ending of the game could have used more build-up when Noctis awakened after his 10 year slumber. Moving forward with this, the FPS could have improved as well as there was some lag in the Frame Rate. I have seen that Final Fantasy XV's interface has a lack of design and which really knocks down my rating for this game. But as I have been playing it, the open world is beautiful and outstanding.

The activities in this game is endless and lasts a long time which really brings out the 10 years I have been waiting for. The main characters really bring out the definition of BROTHERHOOD. I love the communication and relationships with all of the main characters. I am also a fan of the supporting characters. Gameplay was extremely fun the story is gripping and heartbreaking straight at the end. This game I will definitely be playing again!

THE DLCs I will say there could have been improved but as we see the next few episodes, I can see longevity in this game and more room for REAL TIME GAMEPLAY in the Final Fantasy series.

The combat system is weak, and is the biggest flaw of the game. It doesn't take a great amount of variation to beat this game, and it's sometimes difficult to keep track of exactly what's going on.
Usually repetitive combat is fine for a FF game, but in this situation the story doesn't make up for it at all. You just don't care for the characters, and they lack the likability and emotion

    - Since its a final fantasy title, I expect a good story.
    - Too many fetch quest. It makes the game more like an online game.
    - You can definitely finish the game in under 30-20 hours.
    - If you level up too much, the game will be easy as hell.

    Note:
I can recommend this game especially to new comers. Also, FF fans should deal with this game because SE is trying to transition to this kind of play style. FF VII remake will be kind of this game too.

However, even with all it's flaws, I keep coming back to this game from time to time. The game shines on the small things, mainly the dynamic between the main character and his friends. You really care about these guys, even more than some other characters that the game begs you to care. Exploring the world, driving on scenic roads with your buddies, camping, enjoying the photos taken after a day battling all kinds of creatures, funny idle chats... All these little things add a lot on the experience. The battle system is awesome too, very dynamic and intuitive, you never get tired of it. The creatures you face only make everything better.

This game is awesome and after all the updates, it's finally at the best form. I don't understand all the hate this game gets but for me, FFXV is among the best games of this generation.

The PS1 era Final Fantasy titles remain amongst my favourite experiences in gaming and, while this latest entry in the series isn’t quite up to those standards, it’s certainly an improvement over some of the rather forgettable recent efforts.
In terms of story the attempts to create a sort of “brotherhood” amongst the four main characters will help to give players more of an investment in their party than they perhaps did in Final Fantasy XII or XIII but, to be honest, the characters still aren’t as memorable as those from the PS1 days and the plot becomes a bit of a mess by the end. The open world itself certainly looks great but, outside of the enjoyable “monster hunting”, too many of the side quests are simple “fetch quests” and best just ignored. On a side note, and this is a criticism of open world games in general rather than Final Fantasy XV in particular, why do characters giving out side quests just stand in the same position for however long it takes you to get back to them? (One guy waited by his car in the middle of nowhere for 2 weeks until I brought him a repair kit to fix it!)

Those that have been following the series will know that it has increasingly moved away from traditional turn based combat, something which does seem to have split fans. Personally I don’t have a problem with updating the old school RPG combat (did anyone actually like random battles?) as long as what replaces it is good and the combat here is pretty enjoyable, arguably even bordering on excellent at times. It certainly takes a bit of getting used to but, once you get a handle on it, it does prove to be suitably deep with a large selection of weapons and special moves available to tackle the enemies which all have different strengths and weaknesses to counter. The only real issue for me in the end was that the camera was pretty poor at giving you a decent view of the action, especially when you’re fighting in more confined spaces or when you get surrounded by large groups of enemies, you can manually move the camera but getting it in the right place in the heat of battle isn’t exactly easy.

There are a few other issues, such as relatively long loading times when “fast travelling” or car journeys that require you to just sit and watch as a passenger for periods of up to 5 minutes, but these are minor annoyances rather than anything that completely spoil the game.

To sum everything up Final Fantasy XV is a good game that will appeal to most fans of the genre, thanks to a few design decisions and camera issues that affect any combat in confined spaces however, it falls short of being considered an all-time classic in the way that some of the earlier entries in the series are.

The characters are well polished something you see in many high budget games, the quad team that you play with throughout the game felt great making me want to play with them rather than seeing them and then going "meh ok let's go kill something".

The story was a little confusing to start with as I didn't know much about the characters or the factions or game worlds or the God's or the various unique animals but in someway it felt as if that made it more fun more adventurous and something which hooked me from start to end.

Aspects of the game like the limited driving and travel of the world, as well as the this weapon is best for this monster mechanic let it down for me a bit but not by much.

Overall this was a awesome game, had loads fun and really enjoyed it. However this to me seems like a game that I would only play once so future or even past installments of this franchise I wouldn't go hunting for, as I feel this was a one time thing and it's style and genre is not all for me.

Speaking of boring, the game lets you watch a car drive through the scenery to travel the lands of Whateverland. You can not steer the car other then turn left or right at crossroads. It's on autopilot for most of the time and you just watch as it drives down the road and listen to the childish banter between the characters inside the car.

The quests are tedious, and literal fetch quest. The same guy will send you to different spots over and over again to collect dog tags for example. These quests just boil down to a few minutes of watching the car drive, arrive at the general location, go to the map marker, fight a small group of easy creatures, pick up the dog tags and watch the car drive back to collect your reward.
Other quests make you comb through an open area to find and collect small things. These quests will test your patience and have you running in circles over and over again, looking behind every rock until you finally find the last little quest item.

There are a few noteworthy things, like nice graphics and animation. Some of the bigger creatures look good as well, but the combat in this game is just so bad that it doesn't matter what you're fighting, it feels meaningless.

Add to all of this a shallow story, bad voice acting and overall strange moments like you and your party riding on the back of pink birds while acting like a group of eight year olds, and you know why after 12 hours of forcing myself to keep playing, I eventually just quit.

FFXV is not a perfect game, but it has a character to it and a heart that more than outweighs its rough spots. Final Fantasy has always been about change, and FFXV managed to be different from anything I have ever played before, while also feeling very classically Final Fantasy.

FFXV's core cast are fantastic and I really came to enjoy their company. Small details like Prompto's pictures, or quips from Gladio about taking off your jacket do a lot to get you invested. A similar care was taken with the world, and I was honestly astounded by some of the tiny details you can find. The plot seemed genuine and heartfelt, and some of the cutscenes and bosses are downright breathtaking. Combat has a surprising depth to it. When you start doing well you really feel incredibly powerful while zipping across the battlefield.

That said, there are some hang-ups. The most noticeable are the load times. (and I hope the game comes to PC just for this alone) They are horrendous, and they make fast-travel into a huge hassle. I also have issues with magic which is incredibly powerful, but generally unusable due to friendly fire. I may need it for optional bosses I haven't tackled yet, but mostly I just regretted wasting AP on the skill tree. FFXV also has some of the most groan-inducing and obvious product placement I have ever seen. I can handle the prominently Coleman camping gear, Lady Yunafreya's wedding gown being made by (and credited to) an actual designer? Okay, I guess. But a quest about Cup Noodle, filled with praise? That knocked me right out of the game. Additionally, the second half of the game feels rushed. I like the idea of the game becoming more linear and speeding up as it approaches the climax, but the game honestly feels like it could have been 10 hours longer, both in terms of plot and location. There are also a couple sections that play at stealth or horror... they are not good. Finally, there is the car which, while a nice idea, was so restricting and time-consuming that I would often go make food or even read a couple pages out of a book while riding.

Overall though, FFXV really sold me on both its world and its characters, and I thoroughly enjoyed the combat. Looking back after beating it, I remember the strong emotional moments, Prompto's picture album and some exciting fights, not the mediocre car rides or forced survival horror sections.

I've finished the game's whole storyline at 40 hrs, and I must say that it was worth my time. The graphics were very beautiful, and the combat was amusing to say the least. The music was not bad, I find some of it to be enjoyable and memorable, although most of them are not.

The story though, was an absolute mess. I'm not saying that FFXV has a bad story, it has a brilliant story, but

The story though, was an absolute mess. I'm not saying that FFXV has a bad story, it has a brilliant story, but the story telling was awful. This includes the connection between the game itself, the DLCs and Kingsglaive movie. Some of the plots from the DLC and the movie, Kingsglaive: FFXV does not add up, and I am disappointed to say that a good opportunity for deep and thorough storytelling was wasted. SE wasted the opportunity to make the game connect deeper with the players, and to make it worse, most characters significantly lack depth.
All in all it was a good game, but very disappointed at the bad story telling and character development. I felt that this game could be so much better than it was.

The combat seems ok but its nothing special. Magic is almost non-existent and very basic compared to past games and while you can summon creatures and entities, they are usually situational. Story was kind of jumbled and doesn't make a whole lot of sense without the new content they released. There are sections of the game that seem like they borrowed ideas from the Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil franchises. Driving around in the car is cool for a while but it quickly becomes boring. Unfortunately they tied this aspect of the game as a way to build up your AP to unlock skills. A few of the boss fights are cool.

Ultimately, you're better off playing the complete or "Royal" edition as it has all the content that was supposed to be in the game when it first released. If you're a fan of the newer FF games, you might like this but fans of the older games are going to want to steer clear.

The game felt like an overreaction to the linearity complaints of FFXIII. The game could have been great, but it felt like a mish-mash of ideas that never worked well together.
    Cons:
-Many graphical issues. Such as fish swimming above water, NPC characters floating in mid-air, etc. -Gladio getting stuck in an infinite falling animation and becoming useless. -A terribly paced story.

-The car idea was not as fully realised as it could have been.
-Characters disappearing from the party for no reason, only to return later without any explanation, to then have their excursions sold as separate DLC.
-The game gives you a large open world to explore, but then forces you down a number of corridors as if to say "Hey! we have all these cool places in the world. But rather than connect them in a meaningful way, with a satisfying story, and to fully realise them as player spaces, you can have a look at them from the window of a train car or in a tiny little area just of from the platform. enjoy!".

However, I don’t think I have ever played a game that gave me as many conflicting feelings as this one. After several months since my last playthrough, I think I now have the perspective to express my final thoughts: it is a game of extreme highs and lows. At times, I felt like it could have been my favorite game on the PS4 (long time FF fan here), and at others it was laughably bad. The high points luckily save the game for me, as I still really enjoy it and will likely revisit it to play again sometime.

    What I loved (+):
-Road-trip w/ chocobros through an americana-inspired world mixed in w/ classic final fantasy was a very unique, generally well-executed concept (when it comes to just traveling and exploring the open road)
-Constantly entertaining and dynamic interactions between the 4 protagonists
-Beautiful art design including many of the locales, monsters, cities
    -Immersive dungeons
-Amazing soundtrack (Yoko Shimomura put so much love into this)
-Hunts: frightening and epic battles with some classic FF monsters was a blast.
-A solid ending that redeemed some of the agonizingly bad parts of the 2nd half

    What I hated (-):
-Patched together storyline; I seriously cannot believe the game was released in its initial state w/ characters that are presented as critically important only to be never mentioned again, dramatic scenes expecting you to care about empty characters (JARED!!!), innumerable plot holes, and a bizarre hodgepodge of lore that didn’t really mesh well
-Empty-feeling world; while being out in the wilds of Eos was awesome, it felt really empty when it came to cities and NPCs. The world is essentially made of two major cities you visit (lestallum and altissia) and then dozens of nearly identical gas stations that were just cut and pasted. The NPCs also looked like they were from entirely different game worlds (dudes with polo shirts and khakis), which was completely jarring in comparison to the main protagonists, Aranea, Iris, etc. who look like proper FF characters.
-Side Quests: the laziest, most uninspired side quests that have zero connection to the overall story; seriously, I encountered the same cut-and-pasted NPC several times with a broken down car asking for help.
-Undeveloped back-stories: while I loved the 4 main protagonists, there could have been so much more development and flashbacks to backstories. The same goes for characters like Luna, Aranea, and Ardyn.
-Battle customization: while the battle system was actually really enjoyable, character customization was almost nonexistent, with hardly any cool new skills or mechanics to look forward to.
-Difficulty: far, far too easy. The low difficulty gave no incentive to actually strategize for battles.

All in all, this is a game that had so much potential to be a masterpiece for me, but ultimately ended up being an enjoyable, albeit highly flawed experience.

Such as using coins to create experience spells. Much of that is hard to figure out 4) Fishing game is great, but doesn't explain lures or how to figure out what fish are in a spot. 5) I find it annoying that items keep popping up again on the map. Would have preferred to just find and move on with more items to find out there. Tough for completion-ists like myself to make sure we found everything. 6) Stopping the damned car. When you want to stop and get out the car it doesn't pull over and parks sooooooo far past where you wanted to. Annoying 7) Repeated attacks from above by the Imperials, even when your already in a quest hunt. Gets tiring fighting them over and over again. But I guess it's nowhere as tedious as the original games where you would randomly have to fight monsters.

That being said, I love the comradery between the 4 lead characters. The conversations seem genuine. Even if a little corny at times. Like why is Cindy in a bikini and constantly washing your windshield??? I mean, it's awesome, but really??? Graphics and map are awesome. I really like the story so far, and especially Noctis' and Prompto's characters. Although I seem to get tired of completing quests, I find myself enjoying 2-3 hour sessions before I get bored. Much like Resident Evil 7, I think the franchise was seriously in need of a reboot and they got most things right in my book.

Possibly the single greatest video game ever made. Everything from the music, characters, gameplay to the visuals is absolutely unparalleled! (Also: Ifrit is by far the greatest Boss battle in gaming history.)

I've been waiting for a good final fantasy game to come out since X. I wasn't a fan of XII or XIII. However, Square has done a great job with XV. The gameplay is very fun and pretty to look at. Although the story didn't make much sense after awhile. Thus why I rank it an 8. It's pretty cheap now so I would recommend it to anyone even if they aren't a fan of the series, because the gameplayI've been waiting for a good final fantasy game to come out since X. I played about 3 hours of this game and about 5 minutes of it were entertaining. Half the time was spent "driving" (you don't really have control of the car, just where it is going) and walking. The reviews on here in the 5-7 range are spot on -- the game is mediocre at best.

BEST Final Fantasy game of all time! Finally, we have an FF game that focuses more on the characters and their relationships rather than BS expositions and background information. I also MUCH prefer this fast-paced Action combat system to the slow garbage turn-based systems of the past. 10/10

I'm genuinely gobsmacked at how bad & dull this game is. I love the FF series up to number 13, but it took a real downturn when Lightening got involved. I detested all the FF13 series, and just wanted something half decent from this. Instead what I got was a dull, empty open world with an absolutely threadbare plot, & 13-style simplified combat which played itself. It's truly abysmal. So first I’m gonna go over the flaws like how the gameplay is a mess I can’t tell you how many times I blocked and nothing happened also the game has to ways to play be a **** play on easy were it is impossible to die getting rid of any stakes or any other difficulty were you have to grind for the whole game also fighting is repetitive as hell and whenever I can summon it takes 5 years toSo first I’m gonna go over the flaws like how the gameplay is a mess I can’t tell you how many times I blocked and nothing happened also the game has to ways to play be a **** play on easy were it is impossible to die getting rid of any stakes or any other difficulty were you have to grind for the whole game also fighting is repetitive as hell and whenever I can summon it takes 5 years to register other complaints involve chapter 14 dragging but I partly blame that on myself because I decided to fight the iron giant twice with the ring but chapter 14 was very mysterious and I think it was supposed to make us mad to feel like Noctis also the ending was so anticlimactic also there were things in trailers that just don’t happen like everything in the trailer for final fantasy 15 when it was named final fantasy either don’t happen or is just less exciting in the actual game but my only complaint that really took away from the game was that Noctis and Luna just don’t have a personality until chapter 10 and 11 even though it would be the most useful for them a personality for chapter 9! Sorry for that tangent
Ok finally we are at the positives first I really all the hunts those should get really intense and some could always have some scripted climatic moments the open world also always felt so big and wide it always felt like there was something but it always felt real it always feel like some place you can just go with it felt like there was history everywhere. Also some people complain that you need to watch a movie and a anime to understand the plot but no you totally don’t need to watch that **** I didn’t need watch some anime to understand this game hey the game is this thing called subtilty were they tell you the same stuff but they don’t go out to tell you, you have to not be a dumb ass to understand it So you remember when I rambled all about the game play well I lied because I don’t know how but they just made it work the bosses are so cool and each enemy fells challenging enough to make you think on which weapon to use and yeah I said that the block was not reliable but in my opinion it makes feel that much better when you finally get the block and perry it feels so good. And now the best thing about the Final Fantasy 15 was the characters each character bonches off of each other so much Ignis is always the straight thinker who takes care of everyone prompto is the descent comic relief who has a actually good and unexpected backstory and Gladio is the straight thinker who always tells Notis when he is being a dumbass which happens a lot. And I can’t even get into any of the other characters without getting into spoilers so please go play this amazing game for yourself

Expand

This is the most mediocre game out of all the final fantasy franchise. My major complain is the story, clearly the story is unfinished and it's not as intriguing as I hope for from a final fantasy franchise. The gameplay is just mediocre at best and it could be repetitive at time. Overall it could have been better but this game just scream out mediocre at best.

As a huge fan of Final Fantasy and action-RPGs, FFXV is a HUGE disappointment.

The combat is dull, uninteresting and repetitive. Most (if not all) fights can be one by smashing the attack button, magic is useless and not even necessary. Summons are also unnecessarily difficult. The open world is huge, but mostly empty, lacking in meaningful side quests, stories or characters. Also,

Summons are also unnecessarily difficult. The open world is huge, but mostly empty, lacking in meaningful side quests, stories or characters. Also, traveling is really boring and can it can take a very long time to drive from point a to point b, where if you travel at night and hit a monster on the road, you are forced to stop and fight the monster. Awful and disruptive.

Worst of all with FFXV is the story. Awful, terrible, abysmal. Several plot points are left out, it's hard to know what's fully going on if you don't watch a movie (what?!), and the twists are all lame. This is easily the worst plot of any FF game.

I give this game a 4 because the post game content is excellent (somehow I finished this game... not really sure how). You gain the ability to travel in a much faster and easier manner, and there are plenty of legendary weapons, dungeons, and large bosses that are actually really fun. I thought this game was a complete disaster until this part of the game.

But even then, good post game content can't save a terrible game. The repetitive, boring contact lacking in RPG elements and horrendous story make this game my most disappointing of 2017. Not worth playing by anyone, even the most hardcore FF or action-RPG fans.

Great graphics with a bad idea of a story that did not even finish as I was expecting. Id like to rate it higher but I had to much loading time writing this review and killing my protagonists is a bad way of getting a good score. Gameplay is good but not great.

Even so it is a flawed game, I just can not stop, loving everything about it. My personal game of the year 2016. And still great in 2017 due to all the support.

After so many years of development, Final Fantasy XV is not what I expected it to be. The universe is immense and beautiful and the characters are just fine. But the story is short and disappointing and the gameplay suffers from lack of depth. FFXV is a good game, but it can never bring the former glories back to the series.

Even as you reflect on the rarity of a blockbuster that's willing to take real risks, you'll be left with the uncomfortable realisation that ten years wasn't quite long enough, after all. Those jagged edges are, in the end, just a little too sharp. [Feb 2017, p.110]

Despite a divided feel, torn between what it was and what it plans to be, Final Fantasy XV has a lot to offer. If you're a diehard JRPG fan, then it's a positive sign that the series can cross over to a new format. And if you're just looking for an open world adventure, Final Fantasy XV certainly has that in spades, while doing just enough things differently to separate it from the likes of Dragon Age and Elder Scrolls.
