I wish I could give half score, then my score would be 9.5, but my criticisms aren't enough to give it a 9.

I have only played this game with the Royal Edition or Windows Edition. This version has all the dlc and updates in the game already so I don't know about those things people had issue with in the past. But this game, the AI system between the 4 main characters is so wonderful.

But this game, the AI system between the 4 main characters is so wonderful. It feels like you are truly seeing 4 guys on the road, bantering and laughing and becoming family. The story has some issues, and that's my main reason for the lack of .5 score. The reasoning of the gods is confusing, why they needed to curse Ardyn, why Noctis needed to die to save Ardyn... it's rather nonsensical, but I believe that's a holdover from Tetsuya Nomura... who is known for that.
My biggest issue lies in Luna, she is under utilized and the things she does for the story and Noctis are downplayed. She is the one who even got the gods to give Noctis their powers, she went around the world healing people, she even tried to save Ardyn, and yet the story barely focuses on her and greatly suffers for it.
But again, that disrespect for female characters seems to be a hold over from tetsuya nomura's style as can be seen in KH and FF7R.

The game design, and character development is so good among Noctis, Ignis, Gladio and Prompto however, that you can easily drop 400 hour sin this game and still have fun.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Final Fantasy XV is a game published on 29 November 2016 by square enix company. This game called to be one of the best games in 2016. However, it’s still have disadvantage things like bugs and uncomplete story.
First start with Final Fantasy XV’s false. Uncomplete story. If anyone who want to know the whole story of Final Fantasy XV, he or she must watch animation “Final Fantasy XV : brotherhood” also with movie “Final Fantasy XV : kingsglaive” but it’s still shorter compare with previous episode (about 24 hours). Bugs, Final Fantasy XV have many bugs also with long load game time with cause from limitation of budgets and times. (Many people think that this game has use 10 years to develop but the true is it’s use only 3 years instead).
But, in disadvantage things, Final Fantasy XV still have more good part like great character design for both male and female character designs, Real time battle which allowed player to controlled up to 4 characters at the same time. Open world, player can control the character to move other from the main story to farming and boss hunting to get better equipment which has level from very easy to very hard. Also, with another mode of gameplay like take a photo, cooking food and fishing.
Finally, even Final Fantasy XV still have disadvantage things, but the good part is more. So, many gamers and fans of this game are supposed that Final Fantasy XV is one of the best games in 2016.

Since it's offer some of the best looking landscape in the current open world games today's, at the same level of games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Horizon Forbidden West.
Final Fantasy 15 it has a phenomenal gameplay completely action full of spectacular combo, chains attack, parry, the powerful magics, the epic Summons, the Arminger Unleashed, and much more; and a cast of truly characteristics and very well written characters, Noctis, Ignis, Gladio and Prompto, in pretty much every aspect.
Even with their respective jobs and hobby.
The whole execution of the interaction between the chocobros are truly remarkable and special, something that hardly you can see into a videogame today.
And that makes this game even more unique.

The whole story it is also truly interesting and pretty cool, even if to the player is asked to have the patience to follow different kinds of media between an anime (Brotherhood Final Fantasy XV) and a movie prequel (Kingsglaive Final Fantasy XV), and to play the other DLCs released, the whole operation it is pretty much fully rewarded, with intriguing evolution and absolutely stunning events, that makes this whole big operation definitely worth to be followed.

I've spent over 250 hours in the Eos world of Final Fantasy XV, and it easily became one of my favorite Final Fantasy games ever.

Fun game with great atmosphere and characters. It's at the same time not your classic Final Fantasy game, but still keeps a true Final Fantasy feel to it. It also has a large open world areas which can sometimes work against it though since long travel times can sometimes be a little dull. Overall a great game though well worth playing.

The biggest complaints to this game are utter **** and for one main reason. You can apply them to every other game in the series. Final Fantasy XV is a Final Fantasy game through and through, and what people don't realize is that what they want isn't Final Fantasy. Already people have hit the "This review is garbage" button and moved on, and they're in what we call denial.

Let's start with these gripes people have. "There's long stretches of going to a mission objective with nothing in between!" Much like the old games, where going from town to town was nothing except random encounters. Those encounters are still here, if you go on foot you will find them, if you drive at night they will find you.

"The cast are a bunch of emo boys, and there's no variety between them! Old games had men and women and non human characters sometimes." Yes, and no. Final Fantasy V featured a cast with ONE male protagonist and 3 females. Final Fantasy 1 didn't have genders at all, and neither did the original FF 3. (Not 6, the original class based Final Fantasy 3.) 1 and 3 also featured characters with literally NO personality, no story, and it wasn't until the remake of 3 that we got that. So in terms of "blandest" protagonists ever, 15 is still a cut above several entries in the series. And the emo boy look started with Cloud, and you loved it, now you hate, because you aren't twelve and have taste, but nostalgia goggles at popular this year.

"Well, the side quests don't have any story content to them. You basically go to a place, fight a monster, and go back. BORING!" Like Monster Hunter, like Elder Scrolls, like The Witcher, all high valued games. But let's take this in terms of Final Fantasy. ... Before 7 were there even side quests? I think there were a few in 6, but before that even if there was a side quest it was getting a summon or an item that certainly wasn't important to the plot. That's the definition of a side quest. And while the ones in 15 might not have much of a story, if at all, they make sense. Hunting monsters is what the detachment of fighters the majority of your party is made up of DOES. You basically just said, "Why are the soldiers fighting a war? That's stupid." And they even point out VERY early on that the all black "Emo" look is regulation uniforms. They're stupid, I'll give you that right now, it's very dumb that the king said "I want my soldiers to dress up like the Backstreet Boys!" but if that's the universe that's the universe.

"The battles are so terrible though! Even if the hunts make sense the combat is just holding one button. You can do this with your eyes shut!" And if you played every other FF game right, you can win by holding down X. Yes, it's true. I know, take a deep breath. Final Fantasy by the very nature of a JRPG means that winning battles can come down entirely to being beefy. Do you think it's more tactical to select a skill and watch it happen, as opposed to having to time the use of the skill so it doesn't miss? Final Fantasy used to be pure numbers, it was all luck or grinding. FFXV removes a good chunk of that, and I can tell you right now that it does because I took down a level 30 Iron Giant at LEVEL TEN. Why? Because I strategized. I picked good magic, I built meter, I hit it with its weakness, warped out, used Gladiolus' special, warped in, hit it again, chained, rinse repeat. It was far more involved and tactical than, "Oh, a horde of monsters. *Summon Titan to deal 3000 damage to all of them* Oh, I won."

And the story, every Final Fantasy gets weird at the end. If you don't think they do, rewatch the scenes on Youtube. Skip the gameplay, watch the scenes. So we're going to fight Sephiroth, who is this super solider, that's actually a genetic modified human from a petrified ancient, who now wants to destroy the world. Yeah, that makes complete perfect sense, totally not utter nonsense that you have to set aside disbelief to follow. How about Final Fantasy V? Where a tree with evil spirits turned into an evil warlock that wants to swallow the world into the void by smashing some magic crystals? Yeah, perfect sense. ... They're all slightly nonsensical, and at least FFXV has promised to help clear up a lot of the story, so benefit of the doubt until then.

Overall, the game is a much needed breath of fresh air, even if it's not perfect. It has flaws, the combat can get VERY tedious, especially when you just want to complete a side quest, without fighting a bunch of wolves that are far below your level, or enemies spawning in front of your car at night when you're just trying to spend EXP. And the quips DO get boring and nerve wracking after a while, but 12 and 13 had both of those problems, in a sense. It's inherent in all video games. It's silly to think that FFXV was going to solve long standing issues with the medium. What it did do however is update the Final Fantasy formula into something modern. If you don't like that, that's fine, but it's not bad.

Therefore, the 2nd half may not be as good as the first game in my view; however, to my knowledge the biggest flaw with the 2nd half is it's more on the rails without the open world aspect. That said, the open world is so diverse and fun, then the only issue is you may not be able to explore it much during certain story aspects. Nothing wrong with it, but handcuffs at times is a little annoying, and the only flaw that bothers me. The other flaw is the story/lore for the fact you need to go outside the game to know it all. In fact, the main story is the prince and his 3 friends traveling around during a crisis, and slowly built up your powers. The back story with the kingdom, crystal, and the empire is mostly explain in the movies or elsewhere. Nothing entirely wrong with that, but I wish there was more backstory explained here.

Otherwise, the game is great. I really enjoyed the real time action combat, which may turn a few off; however, I think it works well. It's very exciting, and for a JRPG in general, then I don't get annoyed at all with random encounters. I only mention this aspect is at times I get a little annoyed when you have an encounter ever 10 steps in a cave when you are just passing by. The combat and open world is where the vast majority of the game shines. The environment is diverse from desert to mountain forests. If anything it feels like the Western US from the desert to the Pacific Northwest, and you have stops with diners and hotels. My only real complaint with the open world is 90% of the diners are the same. Nothing wrong with the interior by any means, and it's a "chain" of sorts, but they should have more then 3 food options at most diners. Especially when one to two options cost almost 2,000 gild. Considering for a while you may only have 10,000 gild at most for the first 10 hours, then it isn't worth it.

Finally there are a lot of side quests. Now many side quests are repetitive in nature by grabbing something, or going on hunts for money and good items like Megaelixers which are very helpful. Normally I would get burned out, but after 30 hours I haven't because of the combat and world. That is what draws me in is the world and combat. It may not work for everyone, but thankfully they made the story accessible in which you don't have to grind for days to finish it. Overall this is a great entry for the Final Fantasy line, and it redeems the series as a new chapter and direction that works. I don't hate 13, or the MMO 14 when it was relaunch, but it has issues and controversy. Now this game won't be perfect, or great in everyone's eyes, but I believe it saved the series.

Easily the best Final Fantasy title in a decade; FFXV comes with a great story, likable characters and a modern battle system. There's hundreds of hours of fun monster battling to be had in a beautiful open world and that would make it good; what makes it great is the relationships between the four main characters.

Overall Final Fantasy XV is a pretty good game here's a breakdown of my rating:

Battle System 9.5/10: The battle system is really fun. It's easy to control and it gives you much more control over your character than previous final fantasy games. It's also an improvement on the battle systems of Final Fantasy Type-0 or FFVII Crisis Core which also diverged from the typical turn-based system. That being said in certain areas inanimate objects can block the camera which is really frustrating and can make the combat difficult to control.

Graphics: 9/10 They're really solid graphics. They're not the best the ps4 could offer but they're solid. And when you consider the amount of time the game spent in development it's amazing that they're as good as they are.

Characters: 8.5/10 The main characters are interesting and after spending time doing side quests with them you get attached. The major downfall character wise is that your main party is set from the beginning and doesn't change other than the addition of three guest characters. The three guest characters are all intriguing so it's a true shame that they don't join your party or that you don't at least get to see more of them.

Soundtrack: 8/10 It's good but nothing special. The radio with all the classic FF tunes in the car is a plus.

Side Quests/Bonus Material: 8.5/10 They're fun and really help you flesh out the world. They also provide an extra challenge (in my opinion the story quests weren't that difficult.) After a while they do unfortunately get repetitive but once they do you can space them out with the main story or with different types of side quests which cuts down on monotony.

Story: 7/10 The story is intriguing but it unfortunately feels disjointed from the rest of the game. The urgency of moving on with the story is really interrupted by the freedom of the open world and the numerous side quests. The final few chapters feel much more linear (but still allow for an escape to do side quests if you wish) but unfortunately by that point it's a little too late. You're able to bond with the characters due to the dialogue they have as you run around the world but you don't really bond with them too much through the story which is a minus. Also the villain is (in my opinion) instantly identifiable.

Misc: The open world is quite beautiful and fun to explore. Driving in the car is somewhat enjoyable due to the old final fantasy soundtracks and the simple design of the world. Luckily there's fast travel in the game which is a plus because without it the long car rides would get old.

Summary: The game play is really fun, the world is beautiful and the characters are fun to meet. The odd thing about the game is that it's weak point is the story (which final fantasy games usually excel at) but everything else is so good that you're overall impression isn't tainted by the fact that the story is only pretty good. Overall Score: 8.5/10

Final Fantasy is a franchise that constantly reinvents itself with every iteration. From it's roots in basic turn-based fights with a typical story about crystals and medieval knights, to a game that is the culmination of 10 years in on and off development. This is the game that was pushed to be the franchise's epic revival, and it mostly is.

Combat: Certainly the most drastic change to the series is the brand new action combat system. Reminiscent of Kingdom Hearts you attack with different weapons you can equip, command your allies to perform special moves, you warp around the battlefield to either escape or close the distance to an enemy with a powerful strike. Button prompts for blocking pop up and often lead into a counterattack. The button prompts for warping to a point and blocking require you hold down the button rather than simply press it which the game doesn't tell you. Everything runs quite nicely and is generally pretty fun, if a bit simplistic. You are encouraged to use strategy, but it's no Dark Souls in terms of skill required, and the combos aren't complex like a straight-up action game. However the flow of combat works beautifully and is unique enough to be enjoyable for 40+ hours. Grade: B+

Graphics: Easily the game's strongest point, everything absolutely gorgeous in it's art direction, lighting, models, and textures. I'm not extremely well-versed in all the graphics lingo for games, but it's obvious that so much time went into making this game look amazing. To top it off, the scale of the world is absolutely huge and is consistent in it's level of detail. Cities are particularly gorgeous to look at as there are so many small details that add so much to atmosphere. The only tiny criticism is that while the hair is some the best looking in a game, it sometimes just looks odd due to looking just slightly not as real. It's a minor gripe, and it's actually a good problem to have. Grade: A+

Story: So here's where things get a little bit dicey, the overall concept and world of Eos is very intriguing and I wanted to know much more about the world's lore, but it feels a bit rushed and incomplete at times. I actually like Kingsglaive, but the fact that so much important information is in the movie and not included in the game was frustrating. If I had not seen all the trailers for the game and the movie I would have not known who Luna even was or what she was doing for a good long while. The story starts off light and well-paced in the beginning until it dumps you with a ton of lore and plot all at once. I was intrigued by the world that was built, but th way that the story was told didn't really work or make a lot of sense. On the brighter side we have a main cast who is so incredibly likeable in their own way, even if the lean ever so slightly too much on cliché. The banter and relationship of th four character is what really shines here, the banter and dialogue between each of them is so well done and they all seem like real friends rather than characters forced to be together. I wouldn't go far as to say they are amazing characters individually, but as a unit they make up one of the best casts in Final Fantasy. Grade: B-

Open-World: Another big change to series is the fully open world nature of the game. The beautifully detailed world is full of places to explore, side content, and treasure to find. It does all this without feeling overwhelming, you are slowly but surely eased into the entire world and are given quests that guide you to go out and have a reason to discover new areas. A big addition is the car you're given access to in order to travel around in. While those who love to drive around freely alá GTA, may be disappointed that the car is on rails, I slowly learned to love letting the car take me on it's own. Some criticize the fact that sometimes you'll be given long stretches where you just have to watch your car drive for several minutes with no input from you at all, aside from panning the camera to look at the scenery. It might be a frustration at first, but in the end it's for the best gameplay-wise and I soon learned to enjoy it. Grade: B+

Overall this is an easy recommendation for Final Fantasy fans, and newcomers who are willing to look past some minor quirks in design.

What this game boiled down to for me was fun, pure fun, with an interesting if lacking story, lots of good ideas, and over all a package that manages to be worth the price. Somehow, I even would go to the extent of saying this game is one of my favorites of all time. It is quite good, with a highly relatable cast, which I found surprising, I related most to Noctis, which I didn't see coming seeing as he is royalty, but when it comes down to it, he felt human, and suffered from many of the same human issues as anyone else. Combat is fast and fun, there isn't a simple thing to compare it to, maybe something like bayonetta or devil may cry, but at the same time completely different. My only issue with combat is it never challenges the player, and it never really grows, it gives you the entire tool kit at the beginning and it is really a skill and numbers game from then on. The story like I said before, while lacking, it still tells a full story where all motives are clear, and all plot points minus one or two make sense. The world is simply beautiful and exactly what you might come to expect from the FF series, but in a open world. The later half of the game does go linear which is more of a strength to its story telling, although execution doesn't hit every beat in this later half. The long and short of it is this game will make you laugh, cry, and more than anything, it will make you care, maybe not about the bigger conflict, but about the protagonists. While the game makes storytelling sacrifices, that only stands to strengthen the 4 friends characters throughout the story, and if nothing else, that made the journey one worth taking, for me not just once, but three times, and many more to come over the years.
    A few things to note:
Chapter 13 is hit or miss from person to person, I enjoyed it, many didn't, that is all I will say to avoid spoilers.
They are going beyond the release to fix fan complaints with the game, this team has insane dedication to the fans, and it is refreshing to see this level of dedication, hopefully all will help to better the experience!
There is a jumping puzzle in the end game, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you see it through to the very end, it is one of the more difficult, yet fun things I have seen in games in the last few years, and while it doesn't always appear to fit the game's style, it feels good to conquer it.

As a new comer to the series I really enjoyed Final Fantasy XV. I've been gaming since the 80's and played many RPG's, but could never get into the FF series. I've enjoyed many turn based JRPG's and now I think about it, regret not playing the older FF games so I''ll be sure to play them, starting with the remake of FF7 on PS4.

Anyway, I bought the game in a sale and thought I'd give it a go and got hooked within the first hour. The game world is stunning, it blends reality with fiction beautifully. It's a really great cross over to have real world shops, hotels, houses, restaurants, towns and resorts blended with fantasy landscapes and creatures. I love how one minute you are in a modern town doing fetch quests for 'normal' looking people and the next in the middle of a battle with a giant beast surrounded by surreal landscapes.

Quests are varied enough to keep you occupied. The main story is not particularly deep but is interesting enough to keep you playing. A few have complained about story and I presume they are hardcore fans who have seen better from the series but as a newcomer I didn't mind. Roaming the world and creating your own unique story through exploration was imo more enjoyable than watching lengthy cutscenes.

The main characters are okay, they do seem a bit dated like earl 00's emo kids and don't really look like royal warriors, but I've played as much more bizarre characters in JRPG's before so it wasn't game breaking. It would have been nice to have a bigger range of costumes that changed the style of the characters so I could make them look better suited to my tastes.

I liked the combat it wasn't perfect but it worked although simple. FF XV is not a hard game and some aspects have been made overly simple but I presume that's to ease in new comers, As someone who understands and has played many RPG's a deeper battle system would have been welcome.

The map is large and your main mode of travel is by car or Chocobo. The car is manual or auto but manual driving doesn't give full control which is annoying. Chocobo however are super fun to run around on.

The graphics look great, character models are good and the environments detailed. Sound is decent and voice acting is reasonable.

I'd definitely recommend this game and look forward to playing past and future FF games.

The art direction and music is absolutely gorgeous -- something the Final Fantasy team is well known for and has followed through with in XV.

I've seen a lot of criticism online about the voice acting -- I personally enjoy the puns and occasionally cheesy lines although some people are more sensitive to that. Thankfully there's plenty of dialogue and subtitle language selections including Japanese for those who would rather listen to the original VO.

The game has lots of little immersion touches, such as Prompto occasionally taking photos during the game and showing them to you when you camp out. It really helps the game achieve the connection between characters on a road trip together.

I'm playing on a base PS4 and haven't noticed any significant visual issues, the game seems to run smooth at most times with subtle stutter on occasion, definitely nothing immersion breaking.

To address everyone on here who are very critical of the game: It's not the classic JRPG experience and it never set itself out to be. I think SE did a great job with the cards they were dealt.

All in all I highly recommend this game. Both newcomers to the series and FF vets are sure to enjoy the depth, gameplay, beautiful art and story.

+ Riding chocobos has NEVER been this good
+ Strong, stylish, and intuitive battle system (and wait mode makes it easy for anyone!)
+ Gorgeous and lushly detailed environments, one of the best looking open world RPGs period
+ The dungeons are challenging and very rewarding
+ Magic sounds and feels powerful unlike some games
+ Epic sized boss battles and summons, great scale and scenes
+ A ton of content to explore! Seriously... so much.

    - While the story is good it definitely could use a stronger delivery
    - Invisible barriers in the world sometimes startle you and can be misleading which is unfortunate
    - Road trip/car mechanics leave room for improvement
    - Camera could use some work in some battles and tight areas
    - Bugs, with any game this big there are bound to be bugs, but all mine have resolved quickly

This game is so big and grand in scale, with a lovely dude and his bros, an incredible combat system, very badass and detailed animations, a huge and beautiful world to explore with an insane amount of content to eat up. It's easily a 9/10 and contender for my GOTY. After reading all the negative reviews I have to point out that there is no way in hell this is a poorly made game. So much time, care, and effort went into the development and it shows within all it's charm and character. I've never played a JRPG that has received this much treatment and attention to detail, and I have over 200 physical RPGs from several systems sitting here on my shelves. Play the game and decide for yourself, but I'm telling you, this is straight up a well made game, like it or not.

A fantastic game worthy of the Final Fantasy Franchise. This game met my expectations and more. As a long time fan of the franchise dating back to the release of FF1 on the NES, This game has not disappointed. Now I am not saying there are no issues, but I am saying the issue in this game do not interfere with the greatness of FFXV.

I would by no means hold this game up next to FFVI.

I would by no means hold this game up next to FFVI. FFVII, FFVIII, or FFVIX which are all 10's and the best of the series in my opinion. I would however say it's as good as FFX as far a story, world, and characters, and I give that game a solid 9-9.5, and as far as game play I'd rate it in the same spectrum as FFXII which I would rate with an 8-8.5.

So like 10 the story is and world is amazing, I find myself getting lost in it for hours while enjoying every moment. On the other hand like 12 there are definitely issues with combat and side questing becomes redundant, but the rest of the game shines through the issues.

All that said I feel this game deserves a solid 9, as a long time fan of the series I not disappointed at all.

I'll start with 1. what most people will see as bad, then speak a little bit about 2. what I personally don't like, and then 3. a quick run through of everything FF15 does correctly and excellent in my opinion:

    1.

The game makes you "watch" sometimes, putting you in a situation where you are meant to soak in the atmosphere. If you are impatient and just genuinely want pure action from video games, I'd stay away from FF15. I thought the "watching" parts of the game really made me feel like the world was real and that Noctis and his guardians were real dedicated to each other. Frankly, it's one of the reasons why I like the game so much, but again, if you aren't this kind of gamer it is probably the main reason I would say to stay away from FF15.

The combat isn't Devil May Cry, Dark Souls, Darksiders or any kind of action/adventure-style. It is also not completely turn-based. I say that because some people literally don't know about this until they start playing. It may seem nit-picky to even mention it in a review, but you would be surprised for the reasons people don't like games.

There are parts of this game that are not story, heroes-saving-the-day oriented (think GTA5's golf or tennis or skydiving or racing). Some FF fans may think that this detracts from the focus you could have if the game was just based on story elements, but as a repeat player the non-story critical elements keep me engaged and fill out the world.

The game expects you to know a little bit about the world of FF15 before playing. Seriously, if you want to play watch the short movies and TV episodes associated with FF15. You can find them on YouTube. I wouldn't have minded doing this, but I found out during my playthrough and I could see other people hating that the game doesn't start on "Square One."

    2.

A lot of FF15's functions and controls very unintuitive. The game has a way of "interrupting itself" at times too, and this is annoying. Perhaps because I blew straight through the story and am now doing a patient replay and doing everything, my second playthrough just feels so much better than the first as it relates to understanding all the mechanics and how the world in FF15 works. To spin this positively though, I feel great that I learned the full controls and setup of the game on my own after sometime, but I wonder if there was an easier way of doing this.

Noctis feels extremely squishy. This can get annoying when fighting foes that are higher levels than you, and more so when, as mentioned before, you haven't worked out all the kinks of playing through the game. As a plus, this game is definitely harder than most FF games I have played when attempting a straight-shot full complete, but in a way that doesn't feel extremely cheap. An example is FF10, an amazing game, but a game that you can just tell had some sections where you were meant to be repeatedly smashed by a boss until you realized that it was time to murder giant turtles until you could prevent being smashed by said boss. If you die in this game it is because you are genuinely not fighting correctly or the stuff you are fighting is way too hard. The difficulty and the awkward controls can frustrate non-veterans at points though.

The story is serviceable, but has a few points I REALLY don't like about it. I won't spoil anything, but I really don't like when a game expects you to already be emotionally invested in or be intuitive against characters too early into their introductions. Things will happen to someone or you'll see someone and it's like the game is telling you "you should be feeling sad right now" and "this guy is your enemy." As someone that plays games without sound a lot (my thought process is that BGM doesn't play in real life), you can really see some of the game's silliness when playing without sound.

    3.

The game looks great, is definitely something that wasn't possible on last-gen consoles, the combat feels nice and new, I really like how packed with details and features the game is (the team gets dirty after fighting too long, the mini games are surprisingly well done, chocobo riding is dope, etc.), and in general just feels like a solid $60ish well-spent. The game isn't a perfect 10 for me, at certain times where it is forcing me to do things I don't want to do or isn't fleshing out characters more than I would like it's a 6.0-7.0, but as a package it's more of a 9.0 to 9.5.

I try to think about games in the sense of what the developers and art team were trying to convey, and it feels like the team cared about what they were making with FF15. I like that they gave me a little "thank you" note in my game box, and the disc inside the game case feels like a good gift to put this card with.

Though there are quite a few noticeable problems…
In Final Fantasy XV you play as Noctis, a prince who sets out with his 3 bodyguards to travel to his wife to be…
Their car breaks down at the beginning of this journey and it’s here when the friendship comes to life and you’re introduced to the world of final fantasy XV…
This game consists of 15 chapters and can be completed in less than 25 hours if you choose to stick to just the story…
But there’s so much to do that this probably won’t be likely…
The greatest part about final fantasy xv is that it doesn’t force you to play a certain way…
You have the option to explore the world, do side quests, grind for xp and ap for your skill tree to balance out your party and skills…, or go on epic hunts for dangerous monsters in return for in game currency to spend on items and gear…
Or you can just stick to the story... it’s up to you…
Final Fantasy XV to me felt like a very compact version of the witcher 3…
You’re free to explore the different open worlds you visit…
However the world feels a bit empty…
Of course there’s enemies around… but there’s this ghost town feeling everywhere you go whether it’s a town or the forest that stops the open world from ever coming to life..
And it could do with how restrictive exploration feels…
The car for example stays on track... you can’t drive it off road and you don’t even need to steer it…
And when you’re on foot you can feel invisible walls all around you stopping you from jumping onto or over items in the game, which does greatly break immersion even though it’s the games way of telling me not to go that way, there’s nothing there.. I still want to do it...
    I appreciate the open world… but it doesn’t breathe…
There is a ton of life in the story though…
It took me some time to love these characters… but I ultimately did…
I cared for nearly everyone I came across and this game did get some tears out of me..
There’s so many twists and turns here that shifts your perspective of characters…
Some will become more important than you thought or less important...
There were very few moments I predicted…
And the campaign has a great deal of epic moments and boss battles…
I’m not the biggest fan of this game combat though…
Don’t get me wrong.. I love the change from turn based to real time…
But the weapons you pick up don’t feel unique...
    They don’t feel powerful…
And the controls just aren’t intuitive enough to allow ultimate flow…
It feels button mashy and enemies take way too long to kill for that button mashy feel to work…
    You dodge, block, and parry…
But it’s so hard to read enemies and you’re so focused on doing damage that by time you go to block it’s too late..
    Combat isn’t frustrating though...
Your party can heal you and you can heal them when you or they are in danger... they’ll also heel each other…
There were many times one of my party members were in danger though and I couldn’t find them to heal them…
They didn’t show up on my map, and I there’s no name over their head or any indication at all where to go to save them which ultimately led them to fall during battle which definitely is frustrating…
And my ultimate frustration comes down to button commands not being responsive enough…
You have to hold square to take cover, hold x to dismount a chocobo, hold l2 to summon a champion… hold l1 and r1 to essentially go super saiyan for a short period of time…
There wasn’t a single hold whatever button command that would work on my first attempt…
I’m trying to summon.. I’m trying to crouch to regain my health... I’m trying to get off of a chocobo... and it just wouldn’t work…
this is less annoying in the open world… but insanely annoying during combat…
This 100% needs to be patched…
These commands should be way more responsive and sensitive than they are…
Final Fantasy XV isn’t a masterpiece..
    But its close…
The gameplay can get frustrating due to design choices and mechanical issues...
But this is overall a great experience for fans and new players alike…
It’s not too deep, and not too shallow…
There’s a lot to do, and it’s all equally enjoyable.. I give Final Fantasy XV an 8.5/10

My only real complaint is the baffling holes in the story and how entire parts of it just seem to be missing. No idea how this happened but it is a really glaring issue in an otherwise delightful RPG game.

If people think it's not a Final Fantasy game at its core, I beg to differ when I'm riding into battle against a huge Bandersnatch on my custom red chocobo named Hatebeak, 15 foot long magic sword in hand

The major downside to this game which caused me to give it a 9 instead of 10 was the repetitive side quests and a little too short of main campaign. The volume of content helps make up for the short campaign as you will spend a ton of time doing everything that needs to be done, roughly about 100 hours. I still give it a 9/10 as this is my favorite battle system in a final fantasy ever, and is the reason I love the game so much. I would have to say Final Fantasy is getting back on the right track, while this entry is not as good as most of the Ps1/Ps2 titles, its close. The real downside to this game is I feel that the replay value will be a bit low compared to past entries due to the repetitive side quests, which will deter completionists from completing the game multiple times. All in all I still give this game a solid 9.

    Pros:
    - The Barney-like dialogue of FF13 trilogy is gone.
    - Believable and memorable characters, good storyline albeit short for my taste.
    - Best combat system in the franchise to date imo if you don't have a preference for turn based vs. action (turn based is never coming back, so stop rating a game a 1 just because its action)
    - High difficulty encounters do require proper execution.
    - Throwback to previous FF's with various easter eggs.
    - Realistic Setting

    Cons:
    - Sidequests are a little boring and repetitive.
    - Short main storyline
    - Magic system is broken overpowered and trivializes a lot of hard encounters, also wish it wasn't consumable based (probably the reason for its power level).

The world itself is what was worth the 10 years. This being my first ever Final Fantasy game, I went in expecting amazing gameplay and battles, as well as beautiful environments and compelling music. I went in with the right expectations (Sans the story, of course). First off, I'll start with the characters. The characters were likeable enough. I've never seen a game with such a relatable "Prince" character, let alone pull off such chemistry between such a close-knit group of friends. They were funny when they told their jokes, but had their heartfelt moments - especially in the end of the game. As with any game, each of the four falls into certain archetypes that, in all honesty, are somewhat overplayed, but it works.

Now the story isn't the game's strong point as it relies on a movie and five-episode anime. There are parts that seemed kind of rushed (especially close to the end), and kind of jarring because of such a weird change between open and linear. Though the game does warn you when it becomes linear, telling the player that they won't be able to visit the open-world for quite some time. I agree with most people in saying Chapter 13 is probably the worst chapter in the story, focusing on some form of stealth that really does not match the tone. For that entire chapter, the player has no party, so it's quiet. The only other noises you hear are the patrolling enemies that apparently can see where you're hiding if you ran away and hid just one corner away from them, but turn dumb as bricks had you turned about 50 corners in such a small hallway, then hiding just one corner away. Throughout the entirety of the part that does take place in the open-world though, Noctis is sent through quests taking him through destroying military bases, finding royal arms, or going into covenants with the gods. So technically, you can complete the story in more than 20 hours, if you decide to find ALL the Royal Arms before continuing on. Royal Arms are arguably the best weapons in the game, usually having Attack Points of 330 or higher. However, this power comes at the price of Noct's slowly deteriorating health with every hit he makes using them, so it's always best to keep potions handy when the player knows they're going to use them.

Speaking of weapons, now I'm going to talk about Combat and Gameplay. Combat is actually really fun. Players are told in the tutorial to hold down the attack button to attack enemies and pull combos, however, players can actually keep mashing if they prefer the normal Hack-and-Slash gameplay. For fans of the older games, players can actually set the combat to "wait mode" which pauses the game (for a certain amount of time) when the player stands still, so they can strategize in the heat of battle. I prefer the active battle, truth be told, as the wait mode can take me out of the immersion. Battles actually look really cool and the hits are satisfying, but should they meet certain requirements, players are able to summon the aforementioned Gods to basically finish off the battles in such a beautifully satisfying flourish. Driving's kinda "eh" as the car's on a rail, but players can determine the direction of where to turn at intersections, should they pick manual mode. Auto mode's self-explanatory, but also leads to the fast travel system. Boss battles are really **** cool and look beautiful. There is a lot of **** you can do in this massive world too, ranging from Chocobo Races to Dungeoneering. Platforming's kind of **** due to the jump mechanic being odd (which caused me to cry out of anger due to the difficulty of the End Game Pitioss Dungeon). The game does have long load times, so take piss breaks when using fast-travel.

I've never seen such good graphics on a third-person perspective RPG. Seriously, the lighting and the textures are top-notch. Especially on the goddamn food. Everything looked almost as they were promised during the E3 presentation.

If you're a fan of the series, get it! If you're new to the series, it's a nice and fresh introduction. I highly recommend this game, as I've never played any game that looks as cool or plays as satisfyingly as Final Fantasy XV. I understand the game's far from perfect, as it has some glaring holes in both story and gameplay, but looking past that, it actually was worth the ten years of development. Usually, with games in development hell, they turn out to be not-as-good as everyone was hyped up for it. This one came as close to the hype as I've ever seen any game. Seriously, buy it. Fans of open-world RPGs or Hack and Slash games will not be disappointed due to likeable characters, satisfying combat, and tonnes of **** to do. The game is so beautiful that I'm still amazed by how it looks. It's a nice change of pace for the Final Fantasy series, and I'm glad this was my introduction

This is possibly one of MY personal contenders for Game of the Year 2016.

This is a fantastic game. Never played any RPGs and went into Eos with no expectations and now this game has ruined me for other games :D
Buy it, play it. It's well worth the money and time is one of the best you'll ever spend in gaming.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is the best game I've ever played.. but I still expected a lot more! (MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD)
I class myself as a Final Fantasy fan having played over ten titles. Loved VII, VIII, and X. Struggled out of boredom to finish XII and then didn't even bother with XIII.

Since the first FFXV trailer in 2006 I've been eagerly anticipating the release of this title! I had pre ordered it on Amazon years in advance and on the day I received the copy I was ecstatic to say the least, even bought a new TV as the screen did not fit on my current one.

The game starts off great and gets even better. The characters are the best of any FF and have so much potential! I am a pro turn based gamer but I have to admit the actual gameplay is amazing with an engaging combat mechanism and countless extras you can do from racing your car in a high speed chase to shooting machine guns at robots. I actually loved the summoning mode (although initially confusing on how to trigger it), and appreciated how the archaeons would come in times of need in a tough battle giving you a sense of relief whilst struggling against a feared enemy rather than any tiny powered gimmick that you could call countless times in a minor battle against a little chicken fiend.
All of this awesomeness is varnished with an outstanding soundtrack to match (hats off to Shimomura-san).

A downside evident fairly on however is the lack of cutscenes. Final Fantasy is loved by many for its wonderful storytelling in its high quality scenes but this desperately lacked those moments. At first I thought it was as they had transferred all the early scenes to the Kingsglaive movie and that as you passed that point in the game, the story would pick up. It never did. The game was left with so many gaps in the story and events happening off screen it was hard to understand the plot let alone enjoy it. Despite ten years in making, after a certain point in the game it felt completely rushed and unfinished. Don't get me started on how annoying and tedious Chapter 13 was.

The brief story telling they did have was still completely inadequate. It seemed as though all the epicness of the XIII versus trailers had been totally lost. The one scene where Noctis meets Stella had more chemistry than the entire game with Luna. I felt so little for Luna that after her death I actually hoped they'd bring Stella into it and Noctis would forget all about his penfriend who he was told he should marry.
The character Noctis previously portrayed was a strong, confident prince now turned into an annoying spoilt brat. It would have worked if his character developed over time, but it hardly did.

Then came the ending, leaving me completely disappointed. With the ten year time jump, they had so much opportunity to give us some emotional heartfelt scenes. With the King returning ten years on after being thought dead (just like Simba). The moment his friends first see him alive and are completely stunned with joy. The moment he meets Iris, and Cid, and all his old friends. The moment he returns to the now refugee camp of Lestallum and his people heartily cheer his return with a newfound hope. None of that happened however and you were left with a complete anti-climax.
Then came Insomnia, the home I was so longing to explore and renovate back to its former glory. It however served nothing but a stage for the final boss.

Why can Square Enix not finish a game without killing off the hero? I get that tragedy works in bringing tears and all but not when they do it every single time. If you think about it, the whole game was a waste as Ardyn actually got what he wanted and Noctis lost everything. How ridiculous.
An epic scene towards the end would have been the first Versus XIII trailer ever. They could have left it as Noctis losing all his friends from Chapter 13 and then returning to Insomnia. Sitting on the throne in depression, thinking he had lost everything. Empire sending in all their troops after him and he comes outside and kills a few handfuls of them without any emotion and then returns to his throne as he did, now yielding the power of the ring (which for some reason had become a weak toy in the game compared to all its power in Kingsglaive when wielded by Nyx). That would have really pleased us with the trailer nostagia. Then continued with whatever story and ended with him restoring Lucia back to its days of former glory as a bad ass king. Allowing you to explore the open World once more in the present day.

Despite all these criticisms I still enjoyed the game. After clocking it I'm still finding loads of new stuff to do even though i had completed all the sidequests previously. I'm looking forward to the updates now. I know this would probably be very cliche and annoying but I actually want Square Enix to release another game via DLC suggesting Chapter 9 onwards was all just a bad dream and rehash the entire second part of the story to how it should have been!

This one has waited on for almost too long. The long awaited Noctis story and it does deliver. With fun combat and very good story, and oh boy that soundtrack which is superb this can stand easily as one of the better FF games we've gotten over the past years.

After so many years of development, Final Fantasy XV is not what I expected it to be. The universe is immense and beautiful and the characters are just fine. But the story is short and disappointing and the gameplay suffers from lack of depth. FFXV is a good game, but it can never bring the former glories back to the series.

Even as you reflect on the rarity of a blockbuster that's willing to take real risks, you'll be left with the uncomfortable realisation that ten years wasn't quite long enough, after all. Those jagged edges are, in the end, just a little too sharp. [Feb 2017, p.110]

Despite a divided feel, torn between what it was and what it plans to be, Final Fantasy XV has a lot to offer. If you're a diehard JRPG fan, then it's a positive sign that the series can cross over to a new format. And if you're just looking for an open world adventure, Final Fantasy XV certainly has that in spades, while doing just enough things differently to separate it from the likes of Dragon Age and Elder Scrolls.
