    The fact that nearly nothing has been changed since the BETA since this game was launched should be a sign of the game’s lack of quality. And then for long-running fans of the series, there’s the story elements. There’s the lack of npcs, the lack of bustling towns or settlements and the pitiful attempts to reinvent this world with lifeless robots and audio logs. Quite odd how a major new game in the Fallout franchise has none of the elements that define the series. What we have here is a dysfunctional mess of a RPG, a multiplayer shooter and a product on the market charging $60 for the experience (not counting the in-game store and it’s currency system; atoms).     Gameplay - Boring really, no NPCs means the only things the you get to interact with are other players (good luck finding them though) and enemies. Even though the player could find lots of different badies to fight, the ones you'll see the most are the ghoul/raider hybrids.

    Graphics - Sometimes good, sometimes bad, overall a mixed bag of quality. At this point calling the graphics of a    Gameplay - Boring really, no NPCs means the only things the you get to interact with are other players (good luck finding them though) and enemies.     Sound - meh.

    Optimization - PISS POOR. Seriously unless you have the latest hardware available you aren't going to be able to play it at a consistent frame rate is near impossible. Some areas it's like trying to get a near sited 80 year old to describe the image on one of those magic picture toys. Not only that, but due to low frame rate I had to basically use the vats system in every single goddamn fight I got into.

    Сразу! я очень бы хотел чтобы мне вернули деньги за эту игру. Тут нет ничего от фолыча. Это похоже на какую то поделку из глубин стима, которая стоит 50р. Я бы поиграл за 50р в такое и даже может быть не расстроился. В это не возможно просто играть на пс4. все глючит, не возможно    Сорри что на русском.

    В это не возможно просто играть на пс4. все глючит, не возможно стрелять потому что ты не понимаешь из за лагов в кого ты попал, что произошло.
    Тупые, и одинаковые квесты. Ты просто бродишь по огромной карте непонятно вообще зачем. И носишь с собой куча хлама чтобы крафтить, и ты не понимаешь даже какие предметы тебе нужны для крафта. Лагеря нет, базы нормальной нет. Не черта вообще нет.
    Может это все было бы норм, если бы не глючело, хотя бы мягко работало, можно было бы по врагам пострелять. Но не за такие деньги. Если бы это была бесплатная онлайн игра например.
    Итог таков, что я очень расстроен что беседа выкатила эту помойку. И теперь я начинаю опасаться за судьбу ее будущих проектов. И теперь вряд ли куплю заранее или сразу что то от них.    … Expand

    I use and visit metacritic for many years now. But i never felt the urge to make an account and write something myself. With Fallout 76 that changed. There is often some disapointment with games we look forward to. But this is a new low. For the Fallout Series and Bethesda.

I just want to say: this game is the first fallout game since the first in the mid 90ies i do not like at all, the first i just cannot have any fun with. I even liked Fallout Tactics and as from now on the PS2 Fallout is not the lowest of this franchise. That at least made a little bit fun with a friend.

    I feel betrayed by Bethesda. 60 Euro for a game that i cant even get rid of cause i bought it on psn. I hope i do my share to warn people.    … Expand

    A sad ending to one of the best game series.

    The game itself is . . . empty.
    This is not an rpg as show the lack of npc or the (only) simple quest (go there, kill, loot, repat). You can found storie (trought note and hollodisk or terminal) but you will never be part of anything.
    This is not an FPS, as bugthesda never understand how to make shooter or the ennemi IA that goes with it.
    This is not a survival game as past the few first level you would have no difficulty regarding thirst or hunger.
    This is not an open world PVP as the mechanics are all against pvp (no loot, duel had to be accepted, etc).
    This is not a building game as the limitation won't allow you to build anything biger than a 3 stories house. and anyway you'r camp disaper when you leave server.

    So what is it? It does have the game engine of FO4, it does have the colors of FO4, but it's empty. . . Nothing to do, nothing to see, no fun. Beteshda sould have remeber that FUN is part of the definition of GAME and SUCCES.

    And i had to say it but the atom shop. . . buy usless emoticon, hat or pyjamas are overexpensiv (6$/€ for pyjamas. . . ), pass your way nothing to see.
    At least it doesn't make microtransaction P2W or unavoidable. Which is actualy the only good point of this game.

    I had heard so much about the Fallout Franchise from my friends but I had never touched a Fallout game before. Seeing the reviews, hearing stories and responses for previous games I had no doubt that 76 was going to be a blockbuster, the trailer was chilling and when I bought the game on the PS store I had goosebumps. Soon after my download started I started going through the reviews asI had heard so much about the Fallout Franchise from my friends but I had never touched a Fallout game before. Seeing the reviews, hearing stories and responses for previous games I had no doubt that 76 was going to be a blockbuster, the trailer was chilling and when I bought the game on the PS store I had goosebumps. Soon after my download started I started going through the reviews as approx. 15 hours had passed since the game released.

    I found mostly negative reviews but I told myself "These people must be haters or just wanting another typical Fallout game" I was excited to tryout the first full-online Fallout game myself and I gave the devs a lot of credit to begin with for taking this risk to change the way Fallout games were.

    But f****** h*** this game is a piece of s***, I tried so much to be happy, motivated to go up and play this game but it is absolute nonsense. I only opened the game again because I told myself "I have paid 60 bucks, I need to see where this goes"

    PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY, DO NOT SPEND IT ON THIS C*** !!

    You cannot even sit on a mountain top or enjoy the scenery or sunset rays because some f****** mutant animal or rogue robot will start shooting the f*** out of you !!!

    Yeah great job Bethesda !! Way to go !! Pop all the champagnes you can !! So now if we need to play or enjoy games we need to go around socializing and encouraging people to play it with us !!

    Even when you tag an item while trying to cook, you cannot see it anywhere on the map !! so you expect us to keep searching the entire f****** map with the stamina meter depleting in less than 10 seconds !! F*** YOU !!

    You studio will never be the same as Guerrilla Games or Rockstar !!

    It is not a game. Bethesda and their Chief Gay Lord - Todd Howard made the biggest **** up in there live. If you want to play Fallout 76 just download Fallout 4 from torrent, do not buy anything from Bethesda and Gay Lord Howard.

(the things that made fallout4 enjoyable) all that is left is a hollow husk of a game, with the clunky gunplay and inventory system of Fallout4.     If you enjoyed the gunplay in Fallout4 and enjoyed building a settlement, but found the quests disinteresting. Then maybe Fallout76 is for you, if you want to go around bashing ghouls with your friends sure it can be fine.... for awhile. Other than killing random mobs and looting their corpses this game is devoid of purpose. There is no RPG elements, no branching stories, or interesting characters; just a group of roving psychopaths murdering irradiated creatures (you and your buddies).

    I am very disappointed by this game, it feels lazy and uninspired. The game is also awash with bugs and technical issues. I hope for the sake of the Elder scrolls series that Bethesda will learn from the failure of Fallout76 that is my only positive for this game.    … Expand

    The mechanics of this game aren't very different from Fallout 4, a lot of innovations that came from that game are inherited into this game. Fallout 76 has a lot of recycled aspects and because of that it feels like that this game is rushed.

    Now, take the world building, RPG elements, and NPCs out of a Fallout game. What do you get? A glorified battle royale with Fallout 4 combat mechanics, which wasn't even good to begin with.

    Graphics are quite bad; low texture quality, ugly mesh models, and stiff animations make this game an eyesore to look at. Performance is awful as well; how can an engine, that's almost a decade old mind you, run so poorly on the current generation of consoles?

    So yeah, Fallout 76 is a game with such wasted potential. If this game wasn't charged for full price, I would've been more lenient. However, they want me to believe that the game is as good as a game like Red Dead Redemption 2, and that game is superior in almost every single way in my opinion. I would rather recommend you to purchase that game rather than this, especially when Red Dead Online comes out.    … Expand

Its buggy but not horrible for an early MMO release. However, it is BBBBOOOOORRRRRRIIIIINNNNGGGGG!!!! It is the most boring bland vanilla world I've ever played. I dont hate the graphics. But they are kind of boringOk. Here goes. Loved all Fallout games. Even Fallout 4 held its charms. I knew this was getting bad reviews but until I played I did not realize how bad it could be.     Any fun to be had from exploring and scavenging will quickly evaporate into frustration due to technical problems at a fundamental level. Core quest design is also heavily hamstrung by not having any NPCs - the lack of consequences or social positive reinforcement for your time and effort makes your adventure seem purposeless.

And after bout 10 hours into 76 i feel the short answer is no. The game tried to do something differant, and while that doesnt mean bad right away it just feel lacking.     Oh dear oh dear what a pile of donkey do do. Why oh why has no one mentioned you need ps plus to play it! We were told it was just always online like tera etc. Not impressed just traded it in and only got a tenner...price of a large fish supper which isn't always online ))

    Here's why:

    I am a huge fan of the franchise. I got the game pre-order and cancelled during the Beta, because it was poor in both what I saw and not worth £60 when compared to Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption 2 which released within the month of 76, there's an epic void of quality between the two.

    Within 9 days 76 was on sale at half price. A reflection of its actual value. Make no mistake, this is not an original game, I've put in a good 40+ hrs and it's just a poor mans FO4. The AI is actually worst than FO4, honestly, it's really, really bad, and alone this beautiful yet empty world feels boring.
    With NPCs missing, the story is a fetch quest style Go To that only morons could possibly appreciate, logging in to a terminal to read and read then go to next place, pick up tape and listen and listen - it's all so hollow. Where are the characters... oh ...that's right "we are the NPCs" ...no, we're really not.
    In 40+ hrs my encounters have mostly been people running away from me, people waving and trying to give me free stuff, or me shooting people and them logging off / jumping to a new server. There's such poor PVP mechanics, that I wonder why they added it at all - and it's your fault, the solo players that whined when 76 was announced that they didn't want to be bothered by other players - well - they made a game so poor, such bad mechanics that if after a month of logging in your still going, you are alone as everyone else is bored mindless.
    Bethesda's desire to use such an old engine really shows when compared to other PS4 titles in 2018. The animations are 100% from FO4, the boss is from Skyrim, and they released this as a full price game.

    Bugs - seriously - from enemies appearing in walls, items causing crashes, workstations causing crashes and crashes just crashing - this is a total mess. I'm on PS Pro and it's dogsh1t.

    What Bethesda could have done:

    Released the game at £20 as 'early access'. Fixed bugs gradually. Added actual content. Not focused on a bizarre Atom store whereby you spend £20 for an emoji and santa hat. Released it with PVP or PVE servers for players. Let more people on a server. Given it a real story. Kept with lore from previous titles. Given it to another developer to make.

    Overall it really as bad as people say. I thought at half price I'd try it after completing RDR2, but I still want my £30 back. I got 9-10 months out of Ark online, and expected to get at least 2-3 out of 76, but it is so boring, so so boring. I've 68 PSN friends and 1 other played 76 - we hooked up once and had a fun evening - but that's because we have fun in any game, not because of 76. There's players out there trying to collect all the blueprints, trying to get higher level legendries - WHY ? Will a better gun make others want to pvp? Will having a new table type make the base building any more fun? No... your grinding your time out on a crap experience. I'd recommend ARK or any online PVP or even ESO over this ... Christ Besthesda, how could you do this to the franchise and not even openly apologise for it?    … Expand

It´s truly sad what Bethesda has become from the masterpiece Oblivion to this mess of a game.     I gave this game two evenings of time and reached level 12.
    The perk system does not have any influence on the character progression what so ever.
    Either you steamroll ghouls or you get onehitted by enemies that are 5 levels and more above your level. The environment is nice and kind of a fallout atmosphere sets in.     However you do not find any good loot at all or the loot you find does not have any effect on your progression as well.
    The events occurring on the map are completely random and you always have a hard time to compete with them. EIther a bazillion of ghouls rush for a machine and destroy it while you stand next to it and wont get any aggression from the mobs or a level 30 monster will spawn next to you and you instantly die - however you can just jump up a fence and kill the level 30 enemy from there because it will move next to you and stand there staring at you until it dies.
    After having collected a lot of scrap and building kind of a base I became frustrated as well by this mechanic, as you can only use a fraction of the available blueprints and would have to grind to unlock more. So my base was up and running and had a decent defense set up - due to blueprint restrictions - when it got overwhelmed by a bazillion of level 30 monsters destroying everything in the base. When I figured out all my resources gained from two days of grinding scrap were gone, because destroyed base items are gone for good, this was it for me.
    Not to talk about no storyline what so ever to guide the player across the wasteland.    … Expand

When walking backwards you walk into invisible walls yes i see that there was nothing stopping me when i turned around to see why i couldn't walk backwards. The main story quest is you following holo tapes that someone leaves behind and you don't feel like you are contributing to anything. The pvp is broken when you are up against 2 people with power armor and you got nothing and there is something you can do but let them kill you. The building is broken there are only a few spots to build and if someone builds at a workshop you can't move it or collect your stuff that got placed next to it. The hit detection of enemies is also broken. Just don't buy it and save your self the trouble or just watch people streaming it.… Expand

    It should be a free multiplayer feature for fallout 4.

    This game is basically a fallout 4 mod. It is a buggy mess and without a proper story and npcs the game is left with a mediocre shooting system, already aged in fallout 4.
    When fans criticez the fallout 4 dialogue system appearantly todd howard decided that the solution is to remove npcs thus removing dialogue and choices completly. Well done bethesda ( sarcastic )

    No NPCS, no story, Fallout 4 copy and pasted graphics, a ton of bugs, cancerous community with names like pu$$y_licker, an empty world. Every game critic goes ham 10/10 5/5 100/100 best game of the year. Oh and I almost forgot microtransactions when the game already costs 60$. And yes these are all issues that Bethesda pretty much confirmed are to stay.

    It is a lazy cashgrab. Don't pay 60 bucks to run around in an empty void. I feel bad for the Designers, that obviously put some thought and effort into the worldbuilding and trying to make something off this ancient engine. In vain, sadly, since the Bethesda was probably like "nono, don't worry, just do whatever, no effort, everyone is gonna buy it based off the name alone"
    But the audacity this company has, to charge 60 bucks AND include laughable high Microtransactions is way beyond me.

    It runs very badly on the PS4 too. I don't own a PS4 Pro, but i guess it runs a bit better there. It's very laggy, sounds pop in and out randomly, so do textures, when they don't decide to have a flashy rave.

    I didn't expect much, and i still was utterly disappointed. I liked the previous entries, especially Fallout New Vegas and after keeping track of Beta Reviews, i thought i could expect some mindless, grindy, braindead fun. But all i got was a broken game and feeling ashamed of myself for giving Bethesda my money.

    Loot is level locked. PVP is invite initiated. There are no human NPC's. Every mission is mind numbingly repetitive. The "story" is told through hundreds of holotapes cause, again, no human NPC's. It looks absolutely terrible for a 2018 game and runs like hot garbage. Shall I go on? What a mess, Bethesda Softworks used to be one of the best gaming studios, now it's a bad joke.

    Not this game. This game doesn't work - it simply does not work. The game is not fun no matter how you slice it. Your framerate will drop to 15 FPS on console if you're ever in combat; the combat is very clunky and buggy; the graphics are okay, but the whole world looks more like a really good Fallout 4 mod than a new game; the storyline is GARBAGE because there is no story line, and while I know it wasn't necessarily supposed to have a main story, the sidequests are uninspired, recycled garbage that are meant to artificially extend the life of the game. The gun play is very difficult because of the sever frame rate drops. The building mechanics are glitchy and VERY restrictive. You cannot build a massive base like you could in Fallout 4, because the budget is so low due to trying to keep the frame rate workable.

    Lazy, uninspired, dull, unfun, lifeless game that will bore you very quickly. This game is a chore to play.    … Expand

    Wow, people have unloaded with both barrels on bethesda and rightfully so.

    I must say I haven't played this garbage and probably never will, just watched it on twitch for a few hours. Since Fallout 4, I vowed to never give any money to bethesda until I see a few hours of the game on either twitch or youtube. I played Fallout 3 and NV and was a big fan of the series, but not anymore.

    Its a junk collection game without any real goal. The biggest most massive base can just be walked by and will never have any real function. There is nothing here that makes multiplayer work, base building work, character building work or item collection work. There is nothing to look forward to, ive killed scorchbeast in the beta, ive seen nukes drop, there is no sustained pvp. Its truly just a bad game, and considering bethesda its even worse.

    There is very little updated from Fallout 4, and some of the content you had at the start, you know how to grind to acquire. Level requirements on most of the things you pick up takes away the fun. "You found power armor congrats! Oh you have to be level 20 to wear any armor with it though." A train wreck basically. No attention was put into the details, constantly you have to look for Jim, for Frank for Anna... they are all dead! They are all dead because there are no NPCs in this game. So you are forced to go look for a person but you know exactly he will just be a corpse because the whole mechanic doesn't exist. It's so incoherent, the gameplay is miserable, graphics look bad.. On the backend the situation is tragic, you can basically see the IPs of other players in plain text and the game speed is bound to the FPS (yes exactly, like they used to do in the 90s) and i could go on for days. If you buy this game without being an ignorant casual you deserve no respect. You are a short sighted person who rewards bad companies for bad work and i can only hope your actions won't lead other SH to follow.… Expand

    The game lacks...character. The other online players either make or break the experience but I've found more times then not it breaks the experience. That combined with "if it ain't human kill it" game play takes away from the spirit of the Fallout experience. When looking for a solo experience generally you can work out a path to avoid others...but then just when you are ready to complete a quest "pop" another player swoops in and solo play/immersion goes down the pipes. If there was a "go away and leave me alone" mode when you want to play solo and a "glad to see you" mode when you feel like interacting with people then things would be better. Game is buggy getting tagged as "wanted" for walking through an area gets irritating. Taking control of a camp then the camp turns on you and server disconnects...

    Building structures only to leave the game and then they are all gone once you "claim" an area...

    Lack of any type of story via people...going around and "searching" for dead people...because you already know there aren't any alive.

    It's no Fallout New Vegas ( the truest of the post Fallout 2...should have been titled Fallout 3)...it actually had a story line that made sense. I see strained effort to setup the types of things that felt effortless in New Vegas...things that don't make sense when you take less than a second to think about it. Open world with splatters of Fallout lore...lore that is misused/confusing/irritating. Not sure what story line this branched off of but the whole thing feels...sell out/merchandise oriented...no spirit no soul...no story that really makes me want to know more. The first few "clues" pretty much point out where things are going...Also as cool as nukes are...what do they really have to do with rebuilding the future? Playing the BETA and quite some time on the full game I'm trying to keep an open mind...but it's getting difficult...I really want a good story that feels effortless and valued. Not someone that spits out a strained story with smatherings of lore just to try to slap a Fallout title on it.

    Maybe...just maybe they'll get back to the roots and stop making these FPS/Mine craft smashups with no soul/storylines for a quick buck and get back into some really good story-lines that truly takes the Fallout lore seriously. This is probably closer to Fallout tactics in terms of making sense in the universe that is Fallout...only the people that made tactics somewhat understood what made the Fallout franchise...well Fallout.

As a fan of the Fallout franchise, this upsets me immensely. I would have preferred a new 1 player experience. I would have preferred a Fallout Shelter 2. I would have preferred an isometric remake of Fallout 1This game is a mistake. Well since 24 people can only play one map I dont see many people, the bugs are there, but the palace is a half shack maxed out with four turrets... The game glitching and shutting down twice after the 47GB upgrade was even more maddening. I've built my place I have my work benches and I can survive all within five hours of gameplay. I'm now left with no point in the game. My character could survive forever. Anytime I get matched with someone they just breath heavily into a mic and are also lost in the fact of what we're supposed to be doing. Not only that anytime I've ever died nobody has come to revive my character they just walk right by because theres zero rewards for them to save you. I would not ever purchase this game and I strongly want my money back. This game was merely a copy and paste of fall out 4 without the story and heart. Its a pure cash grab do not purchase this game...… Expand

    76 has come out after Fallout 4, and yet there is literally LESS in 76 than in its predecessor. I can't believe that this isn't a joke. This game feels like a hollow shell of a game. They've literally taken Fallout 4, removed everything that made it a good game, and sold it back to us as a AAA game with a $60 price tag. The game crashes ALL THE TIME, the bugs are actually ridiculous, the world is empty, quests are boring and uninspired, and I happen to run into another player once every 2-3 hours. Talk about an immersive multiplayer experience!

    I routienly fast travel only to be killed when I get there. Quets bug out and you cannot complete them. NPC are no longer in the game, and everyone you run into doesn't have a mic or doesn't want to team up even if you give them stuff.

    I'd love for this game to work, but it is broken. Every patch they put out doesn't fix the problems they say they are but creates new ones. I filed for a refund.    … Expand

I remember the backlash ESO had upon release, people wanting "Skyrim with friends", but that was way better at launch than this, and since then with its upgrades it has become my favourite online game ever. TONS of content, great storylines and characters, much better graphics than its main rival, WoW and on the whole, runs very smoothly, even with loads of other players on screen. With this game, I wasn't expecting "Fallout 3 with friends", but at the very least something on par with ESO, vaguely hoping Bethesda would've learnt from Obsidian's release. With its constant bugs, atrocious graphics, awful AI, complete lack of immersion and characters, and enemies spawning out of nowhere, it appears not. It seems that Bethesda have gotten too big for their boots, and if they think they can crap on their customers by thinking that this is good enough for us, then they need to learn a valuable lesson: it doesn't matter how big you are, a business is NOTHING without its customers. We've parted with our cash and been stung this time- we won't next time.
    I can only hope that they have just enough humility to realise that they have really messed up, and hopefully they will sort this mess out and give us the game we deserve, because, as of now, they have not only seriously tarnished the Fallout brand, but also their own brand.    … Expand

    After playing over 40 hours of this game i have to say it falls way short of a Fallout game. NPC's need to be introduced and bugs/glitches need to be fixed. Totally unacceptable state this game shipped in. The core is there to build on but needs some serious work. I question how much of the Maryland studio had a hand in this. I feel it was outsourced to the new smaller studios. TheyAfter playing over 40 hours of this game i have to say it falls way short of a Fallout game.     So utterly disappointing and flawed in every possible way… The first few hours, most of it can be ignored, and occasionally the flaws can be forgotten, but only briefly before they come storming back to the forefront. An awful, boring, empty, pointless experience. There is, however, a glimmer of hope. It's worth mentioning that there has already been a Bethesda title that was equally as unimpressive: The Elder Scrolls Online - but looking at it now, it has transformed into one of the best MMOs out there. There's always the hope the Fallout 76 develops the same way and becomes something special, but for now, that seems impossible. It's a world away from that.

    Fallout 76 isn't your typical fallout experience. You don't have NPCs or dialogue, but instead get real players that should fill this void - that ultimately fails to do so. It does some things right, but as of now I cannot recommend getting this game as long as it stays a broken and boring mess that it is right now.

    Fallout 76 is the series’ Freshman introduction into the world of online, multiplayer games. As a result, we are experiencing all of the awkwardness and clumsiness associated with that season of life. It is imperfect and a bit uncomfortable, but I see opportunity for Fallout 76 to be more than it presently it - to be a truly great, rich Fallout experience.
