I've only put 28 hours in and I've barely covered the map, I'm excited to see what else the game as to offer in the future. (Really hope this wasn't an online test run for Starfield.)

As a fan of Fallout franchise and the new direction with which Fallout 76 goes, it's nice to see a take on a new area of the wasteland that is the USA, lore is abundant as well as enemies, and hidden troves of references, and activities. Bugs are around but given the merge of the Creation Engine with the Quake Netcode, there still are plenty of things to be ironed out. While I cannot give it a full 10/10, Fallout 76 in my opinion deserves an 8/10 for stretching it's fingers into the melting pot of West Virginia.

Instead of NPC's abound, we have robot traders, and robot events due to lore reasons. Many people cannot see past this because they are use to being hand-fed things to do, well Fallout 76 doesn't do that too much, it gives you more of a choice than ever before. Don't do the main story, that's fine; want to be a total wanderer, that's fine too. While not suited to all players, Fallout 76 gives a new test and trial to the wasteland.

Many players, and reviewers have followed the hate train into the ground, and are not very constructive with their reviews, it's sad and pathetic really.

This game doesn't deserve the crap it's getting. It may be buggy, but it's less so than even New Vegas and 4 were on launch. I have legitimately bought two copies of this game, to play with both Ps4 and PC friends. (Even then, a good 30% of my time has been spent playing solo, which I actually prefer!) This game has immersion in spades. There is so much attention to detail and the way this game delivers environmental or holotape story to enjoy on your own terms is the ONLY way this could ever work. They are letting you enjoy the story at your own pace, when you are in the mood for it. The survival elements are light, the questing and events are worlds better than MMOs. The enemy variety HAS NEVER BEEN THIS GOOD. This game has variety in weapons/mods, even food and cosmetic clothing in spades, and on launch offers outfits that let you look how you want while wearing the best armor you can find. Just about all of these only way 0.1 pounds!

What did we really lose? Fallout 4's dialog options were terrible! 3's honestly weren't that much better. And New Vegas was a different developer. Even though we've lost the ability to pick dialog options and the leveling system is a far cry from the original fallout, the perk system has SOOOOO much potential for easy upgrading and re-balancing with the best build potential Fallout has ever had. Fallout 76's story feels like you are picking through what remains of a post-nuclear world, and the devs have focused on what they're good at. Environmental storytelling. Every random robot NPC has so much charm and character, from story-reading nanny bots sprinkling advertisements for Robo-Co into her Hansel and Gretel story, walking advertisements showing up behind you to tell you that "YOU'VE WON," giving you anything from 100 Post world money, to pointless vouchers with random text, or junk. These are the random encounters!

This game has a lot of factions ranging from known to brand new and very believable factions, with one of my easily favorite stories comes from the equivalent of a Comic Book Hero faction. I won't spoil anything more than keep an eye out for dead ladies in nice black dresses.

Just, try it. Hit level 10-15, get your hands on a pump-action shotgun that reloads just the number of slugs you've used from your clip. (Looking at you New Vegas.) This game gets more and more satisfying the more you play it, with exponentially more amazing perks from the 20s, to 30s, and then 40s.

I didn't want to spend my cash on it. He bought it as an early x-mas present so I would play and I gave it another go! 1 patch later a headache of downloading and going over my internet cap, and 100 hours of gameplay later I can only say this is a masterpiece and I was so used to instant gratification and games that hold your hands of today I did not see the depth and passion that was in this game. I regret ever bashing Bethesda for this game! I have had nothing but great times and now that I know wtf I'm doing and playing with friends everyday this game is on another level and we all just didn't see it! but now I see it, I see the amazing item complexity's and crafting builds in retrospect to the amazing perk card system that allows you to swap loadouts on perks. just wish there was a way to save loadouts and swap them without doing it manually. I see the massive amounts of level depth and planning the first time I took posiden energy plant with a full squad and now every time I catch the cute easter eggs hidden in inanimate objects, graffiti, termanals, and blood scrawled notes on the corpse of dead raider joe, Yes this game is buggy as hell, Yes I have 400+ triple A titles in my steam library, but you know what. I wake up I want to play fallout 76 and discover more loot, I want to burn more, I want to be more efficient at learning great spots for those springs and gears, where the red apocalyptic fern grows and a mini-nuke down to 1.5 pounds with the bear arms perk launching 489 dps in a catastrophic mushroom cloud of death at any who dare appose me until I run out of rounds and my weapons break and I'm flailing on the ground save me save me to my team who are equally as frantic as hoards of scorched slam us from every direction while the blinding breath of the scorchbeast queen pulverizes my t60 power armor to dust! im 100 hours in and I still have not walked half the map or even stated the quest lines I'm not joking!! I did my first 5 quest tonight and they were very well done. Sure this is not a game for Tom Cruise. But this is one of the best games ive played in a long time and I really wish it had a better launch, people were way to quick to judge just like I was by some fluke I kept playing and I think its one of the best things that ever happened. Sorry for my poor grammar and the long rant of a review but I feel this game will have a spot in history as the game that surprised the world when it picks up steam in reviews again. and it will just look at ESO same story not as great a game but it fleshed out to be a really good MMO, Cheers to all you still trending the wasteland at least you know what I know, Expand

The biggest issue I have with this game is that it is, basically, Fallout 4. This isn't really a problem since FO4 was a fantastic game. I would have liked to see something new added though, to be honest, I can't really think of what that would be. This is also a plus, as unlike Elder Scrolls Online, there is no mistaking that FO76 is a modern Fallout game. (Full disclosure, I also enjoy TESO).
This is a very good game and, if you enjoyed FO3, FONV, and most especially FO4, then you will enjoy this game.

I've spent 10+ hours in the world of Fallout 76 and I'm still engaged and finding new and interesting things. I look forward to seeing how the world grows and it will be in large part to how we behave in the game, engage with one another and become a community.

Fallout 76 is an experimental game from Bethesda hence the bad scores from people that did not get their usual singleplayer experience.

Aside from the idiotic reviews... this game is in a bad state, Bethesda still did not release a Day 1 patch after 2 days of release as the version still remains the same as in B.E.T.A.

The isolation provided by no NPCs adds to the eerie feeling of the game. No friendly faces to wish you luck on your quest, no nice guy telling you exactly where to go and what to expect. I do not tend to review games, at the most, i have reviewed three others on another platform, but this time, i had to stand up because enough is enough!

Now i know people have a right to their own opinion, to what they believe is the best game, or to make it the best game, or a great game, and i will never deny anyone their right to do so.

But this is Fallout, this is the series that i love the most, more than any other game franchise around. It hurts to see people so hateful, so angry, so willing to throw negative reviews for such spiteful reasons. This happened for Fallout 4 as well, and fans did this for New Vegas, and for Fallout 3. Heck some did it for Fallout Tactics, even Fallout 2 being such purists.

So where does it stop? When does this Fallout game hating end? I like the game, yes, but there are aspects that drive me crazy enough that i would have given it a zero too, yes. But you know what makes me different? Do you know why i have no love for Todd Howard or Bethesda, and how he keeps throwing out games that are not ready, or that each game tends to break some aspect of lore until it is explained and fixed, or why they choose the choices they did for a game, even if it did piss so many people off?

I'm here to simply have fun playing Fallout, if i have fun, if i enjoy playing, I'll keep coming back, if not, then I'll come back eventually when I'm bored, but i just want to play. Not want the latest graphic engine, the best immersive NPC's, the perfect gaming experience, even the perfect match with lore, i just want to play! That i can play with other players now, cool, that they are working on patching the game, good, no game is perfect at launch, no matter how many years it is taken. I just want to play, not hear people, or see people in the case of my video feeds and channels, endlessly complain and complain and complain. Play it or don't, have fun or don't, If you cannot figure out the story, or why the only NPC's (and yes, there are NPC's) are there, it's not my place to explain it.

So either just play, and have fun, and let those of us who do like it have fun, or just calm down, say your peace, and go, for if you cannot say anything constructive with your criticism, then do not say anything at all, cause personally, I'm tired of this toxic fan base.

My experiences so far through ~2hrs of full game and ~10-12 of beta (mostly co-op with friends in beta) have been 95% good to great. Had one bad bug that kept from collecting loot/junk, but simply rebooting the game fixed it and hasn't happened since. So with close to 15 hours of gameplay I just hit lvl 15 before logging off this morning, and I've (iirc) only done the first ~2-3 mains story missions. Basically just been getting lost in the world and letting it take me where it may.

8/10 - Would recommend if you're into Fallout!

Unlike most others, I find the game quite enjoyable. It does not lack bugs - as does any bethesda release - and therefore I do not feel the need to emphasize on that any further. Having no HUMAN NPCs is not that bad, and it servers an interesting plotline and strongly explains what happens to them within the game itself.

I'm just gonna list some thoughts here:

    Positive:
    - impressively huge map (especially if you consider the engines age and the fact that this is multiplayer)
    - great environmental storytelling
    - you can play coop! (yay?)
    - cool crafting
    - many different weapons and cool equipment
    - i encountered no game-breaking bugs
    - graphics fit it's cause and can be both extremely beautiful and utterly disgusting
    - atomic shop offers only cosmetic stuff (has to be honoured nowadays imo)

    Negative:
    - many empty areas with literally nothing to do. So yeah the world is big, but
    comparatively empty
    - multiplayer (see MULTIPLAYER)
    - base building is still a pain
    - less and less cool blueprints
    - ridiculously small storage capacity. i capped after ~8 hours of playtime and had to dump like 3000 shots of ammo
    - you can't sell ammo ¯_(ツ)_/¯
    - the game is WAY too easy for at least the first 20 levels

    MULTIPLAYER
Sounds good doesn't work. Why? Everything "fallouty" about this game - like the numerous audiologs, letters and terminals (so basically the whole "Environmental Storytelling"-part) - is designed to be experienced by a single person. You can't listen to 5 mins of audiolog while running around with your comrades shooting supermutants - at least i can't. On my first day of beta i was very disappointed about the lack of immersion and the typical fallout-feeling. But since i started playing it like i would play any other fallout - so like a singleplayer rpg - things changed quite dramatically. So try treating the multiplayer part like you would treat an on-top coop mod for fallout 4. Kind of what the community wanted, isn't it?

But the question is: Is it fun? Yes. Period. For me it began feeling like i was playing fallout at the point where i actually tried playing it like fallout. As said: Don't play it like you would e.g. Borderlands or Destiny or whatever. Play it like fallout and you'll have a great time.

And stop behaving like 5 year olds. Jesus this community...

What's bad is that this game feels, in every way, a total cash grab. It's a full price title that locks a huge bunch of content behind micro-transactions, is balanced in such a way as to encourage you to spend money, and feels very much like an extension of Bethesda's relatively recent stab at paid mods.

They're also getting really lazy with the series' canon. Inconsistencies so huge and glaring it almost feels like they didn't even play Fallout 4, much less 3, 2, 1, and New Vegas, and considering how little story there is in this game that's saying something. It's also pretty glaring the number of systems and control schemes they've made more obtuse, complicated, and broken from Fallout 4. Good luck with the new favorites wheel––it sucks.

We've got a buttload of radio tracks this time, too, from old favorites to new tunes, and there'll be a lot of silence to fill up as you make your way through the absolutely massive game world. The game map itself is fantastic, both the new stylized rendering in the menu and the actual environment, which is why it feels such a shame that they used it for so mediocre a game. There was a lot of potential, here, and it's been squandered to develop a Fallout loot shooter.

There's plenty of sour grapes over Fallout 76, and while some of them are unreasonable, this game really is underwhelming in a number of ways, having taken some steps back from even the accessible but simplified Fallout 4. If you're on the fence, feel free to miss it.

My biggest fear going in was performance, I play on ps4 pro, which if you played Fallout 4's dlc Far Harbor after pro patch, suffered from unplayable frame rate. It's pretty apparrent that they took that into account as draw distances and details suffer in fallout 76 for performance , but it runs well most of the time. You will get stutter when enemies spawn right next to you, hopefully this is patched, til then if you get stutter arm your weapon ASAP.

Graphically and physics wise it is noticibly improved in all areas to Fallout 4 except draw distances. Gameplay is interesting, and Fallout has a historicaly excellent community and so far my experience in my encounters have been positive.

If Fallout 3 or 4 was your favorite BGS game and you like Multiplayer you should buy this. If you think new Fallouts suck and Fallout 2 was great or hate multiplayer you should pass. If you love Fallout 4 but hate Multiplayer buy on sale.

    UPDATE!!!!!!!!! 15 Nov 2018 5 p.m.

Ok, so there i was just minding my own business and two idiots decide to follow me around forever all the while shooting me. You do take damage after every shot. I was under the impression, if they fire at you and you don't fire back, you only take that first bit of damage, but no, you will continue to lose health. It isn't much health, but still! I don't mind other players running around in the world, but Bethesda really should make an option where if you want to interact or not. If you don't, you should still see the people, but not interact with them.. That's what I think. When I am trying to complete a mission, being attacked by ghouls, that is enough, but no, you have to worry about other people attacking you. Its dumb...DUMB DUMB DUMB. Weren't we all supposed to be from the same vault rebuilding the world? Why would we kill each other? I will leave the score the same. I am still enjoying this game, but I hope Bethesda changes certain parts of the "online" experience.

    UPDATE!!!! 16 Nov 2018 1 p.m.

Back again with another update. I am really really trying to like this game. I keep telling myself that it is Fallout, I LOVE FALLOUT, but after a while, it doesn't feel like Fallout anymore. A major gripe that I have is using melee weapons. I get swarmed by level 1 ghouls, I am a level 15. I swing the golf club, the ghoul moves. It takes forever to set up again and swing again, the ghoul moves again while I am being attacked by 5, 6, 7 more ghouls. I know, I can use guns, but these are level 1 ghouls! The melee combat sucks. its worse than any other Fallout game. The most annoying part is when you are being swarmed and then the frame rate freezes, then it catches back up and you are no longer facing the way that you were and now the ghouls are behind you. Its annoying. And another thing, since when did the rad moles or mole rats, whatever they are become such a problem. HOLY SH*T! For issues like I have been running into, the score is being lowered from a 7 to a 6.

    UPDATE!!! 22 Nov 18

Ok, so my mind hasn't changed much regarding this game, but I have something new to gripe about. When you go to an area and there happens to be another real player there and this player is very much above your current level, all the enemies in that area will be around that players level. Top of the World, most enemies are not above level 10, I am currently level 20. I left the area and came back a bit later and there was a level 48 person there, all the enemies were level 45. This kind of takes the fun out of the game. Bethesda should never ever try online ever again. they should stick to what they do best, make memorable single player games! I am still enjoying the game for the most part and for what it is i guess, but this game actually makes me miss Fallout 4, and I didn't like that game that much.

    UPDATE: 26 Dec 2018

The game sucks, score lowered to a 3. I am pretty sure I don't need to give an explanation as to why my score lowered. Go to youtube and watch people talk about the game. Everything they say is absolutely true! Terrible. I am scared about Rage 2 and the next Fallout. I am scared about TES6!

Despite Bethesda's reputation for bugs and some valid issues that need to be addressed, this game does have some promise. It may not be anything like the typical singleplayer Fallout's, but it was never intended to be. That is what Fallout 5 is supposed to be for whenever that happens. Until then, I'm going to enjoy this refreshing take on a Fallout spin-off with my friends or even just solo.

The foundation of the game is extremely solid and should be expanded upon with future content releases to reduce stagnation. Gameplay is really smooth and I haven't experienced a lot of lag.

There are some bugs and network issues that are pretty annoying. I've had my CAMP despawn into individual parts and even lost some expensive built pieces during the process. My fast travel point constantly puts me underwater. The lack of human NPCs seems like a huge oversight since there is evidence of people being almost everywhere. All the negatives don't make this a bad game though. It needs some more polish, some content to eventually come out as DLCs, and it would be perfect.

Another word of caution, however, is that the lack of NPC's or a more-traditional campaign storyline might be an impassable barrier for some. For my money, the storytelling, while different, is actually a step up from some of Bethesda's previous efforts when it comes to the quality of the writing. If anything positive emerges out of the backlash this game has been receiving, it will be that Bethesda has a change of heart about including NPC's. Expand

Grieving is none-existent right now.

People who are used to the Fallout singleplayer games might have problems with this title though. The only reason for this is, that there are no human npcs. All humans are players. If you don't embrace that it might feel "empty". Thats an illusion though. Because of people being upset about it, it might have been a bad decision by Bethesda to do it like that, but the game is amazing. A real singleplayer game done in multiplayer and its full of content. Just no babbling human skinned NPCs, but its still story rich and huge, full of stuff to do.

    Now the actual.

    The Bad:
    1) Yes, there are bugs.
    2) Yes, the graphics aren't top of the line
    3) Yes, there are some performance issues.

    The Good:
    1) Insanely fun with friends.
    2) If you enjoyed the mechanics of Fallout 4, you should love this (and I didn't play it, but I know they're largely similar)
    3) Lots to do. The lack of human NPCs is not a big deal. There are still NPCs, there are still a ton of quests and other things to do.
    4) While griefing will certainly be possible, their attempts to mitigate it are pretty good. They seem to have looked at other games griefing issues, and tried to implement similar solutions.

I see people complaining about things like getting hungry and thirsty. My response is, they told you that would be the case. Now yes I think the rates should be slowed. But you can also get perk cards to help with that. Ultimately staying hydrated and fed is not that hard. But if you didn't want the survival aspect, you shouldn't have bought the game. It was not a secret.

For those complaining about lack of ammo, they either completely suck at aiming or aren't looking. I have over a hundred rounds of each type of ammo even though I primarily only use one type. You find plenty. Plus you can craft it.

For the microtransactions, again, don't buy them then. They don't impact gameplay. And they said they'd be there. I'm totally fine with cosmetic MTXs. Which is all they have. No XP boosts. No loot boxes. The most "gameplay impacting" things they sell are emotes.

For the complaint about microphones, you can turn it off. Yes it'd be nice if that could be improved. But just turn it off and you're fine. You can also just mute individual players instead of everyone. I personally set it to team. Can't hear anyone I'm not in a team with.

Complaining that this game is Fallout with multiplayer and you didn't want it, but still bought it (or probably didn't and are just whining about it), is ridiculous. For people like myself, I'm insanely happy the game is out. I wanted to play FO4 but didn't since it didn't have co-op. And I'm not good in games like that where I'm just running around by myself. So now me and my friends are having a blast in it.

Yeah there are occasional frame rate hitches. But overall last night the game was solid. If you don't like the premise, don't buy it. If you do, you'll have a lot of fun in it.

If i had not read anything about the game before hand like some reviewers here and my belief where that i would get something like Fallout 5, i can understand the disappointment. But this game is NOT Fallout 5 and should thus not be treated as such. Reading some reviews you get early on that the world feels lifeless without the humanoid NPC's. On that point i can agree but is there NPC's in Rust, The Forest or most of the base-building games out there? No. That is basically what this game is, an Open-World Exploration and Base-building Game. If you have that mindset when you start playing you will NOT be disappointed.

The world is beautiful and besides building your base(so much fun if you are in to that kind of stuff) there is tons of location and lore to discover. The enemies feels a bit generic and all i ever encounter is lvl 1,3,5,8,10,16 ones. Maybe a better randomizer script here? Apart from that the combat feels very Fallout. I have actually been actively avoiding other players so i can enjoy the world to its fullest. But i also believe that the strength of this game will be enhanced multiplayer. Add a few factions and PvP functions with more players than the twelve that are on your server. Imagine the Enclave and Brotherhood clashing on a 20v20 base-raiding mission. Strongholds that give your faction some benefit if besieged.

Anyhow, i see a great future for this game but rather than and multiplayer fallout game it should have been marketed as a sandbox game in Fallout setting. Indie studios release these kind of games for half the price but if the but some work in to it and listen to the players it will be worth the price in the end. Just look at No Man's Sky, if all the content you have in the game now had been there at release the response would have been totally different. I will give this game a year to perfect itself just so i don't feel ripped of my 55 Euro.

The lack of linear story is a change, but a welcome one as I feel like I'm not rushed to find my kid or whatever, but I'm more immersed in seeing the aftermath of the war and the years that followed. This is not a game for people that enjoy PVP, or many of the traditional aspects of online play. This is a version of Fallout that tells a new story of what happened before, and if you allow yourself to be immersed in the holotapes, notes, journals, etc. it's quite a good one. If you rush through to find "end-game" stuff, you're missing the point. Near the last day of the Beta, I was walking down the street, listening to the Classical station with my sniper rifle, and I knew I was hooked (and have played every day since with no regrets). Playing with a friend is even better when we have semi-permanent camps near each other and can explore & chat together. Encountering strangers has been a positive experience, one that normally causes me to dislike online games, but I expect the bad reviews are keeping those types away and leaving only the hardcore fans to enjoy the peace & quiet together. If you ever played a previous Fallout, and wished you could just play that game forever, with friends, and (presumably) an endless stream of content for years to come, this is that game. I understand why people are hating on it... it's not for everyone... but it's worth a try and for some of us it is really good. Expand

Please do not jump on the hate train for this game, because most of the negative reviews aren't giving it a proper chance. The only real issue with the game is that it is a bit buggy (no worse than alot of multiplayer games though.) I have encountered nothing game breaking. The environmental story telling and lore via terminals is pretty too notch as well. Overall the game is oretty fun and dies very much feel like fallout. Not the best entry in the series, but certainly isn't worth the hate it's getting. Expand

Bashing Fallout 76 is a meme. The only valid criticism I see is that the quests are not up to standard, which leads to this game feeling more like an mmorpg than anything, but that isn't a bad thing...

I have played every fallout that has come out. I love 76. Its something new. I am so tired of everyone putting it down. Yes, there are bugs. But what game doesnt after a short release time. Bethesda will take care of all the problems in time. So to those who are totally trashing it. Get over yourselves.

So utterly disappointing and flawed in every possible way… The first few hours, most of it can be ignored, and occasionally the flaws can be forgotten, but only briefly before they come storming back to the forefront. An awful, boring, empty, pointless experience. There is, however, a glimmer of hope. It's worth mentioning that there has already been a Bethesda title that was equally as unimpressive: The Elder Scrolls Online - but looking at it now, it has transformed into one of the best MMOs out there. There's always the hope the Fallout 76 develops the same way and becomes something special, but for now, that seems impossible. It's a world away from that.

Fallout 76 isn't your typical fallout experience. You don't have NPCs or dialogue, but instead get real players that should fill this void - that ultimately fails to do so. It does some things right, but as of now I cannot recommend getting this game as long as it stays a broken and boring mess that it is right now.

Fallout 76 is the series’ Freshman introduction into the world of online, multiplayer games. As a result, we are experiencing all of the awkwardness and clumsiness associated with that season of life. It is imperfect and a bit uncomfortable, but I see opportunity for Fallout 76 to be more than it presently it - to be a truly great, rich Fallout experience.
