Game was a total mess on release and deserved the bad ratings, now I most say its one of the best games I played yet, good work they did but there you see again rushing releases never a good thing, bad rating keeps for all the life of the game, now user score of 2.8 for a game which is now for sure a solid 8 or 9.

Incomplete game which is only a cashgrab. Plagued with bugs and a bunch of cashgrab overpriced in game items.

It is a lot like when people hate a movie that was made after a book and it did not live up to what they read from the book. I like to judge material based on its individual standing. Note if you have a PS4 Pro which I do, it will crash every now and then. It can be annoying depending on the timing of the crash. Expand

For now I will say that I'm *really* enjoying this game. I love the Fallout world and this game feels like Fallout. The world is amazing, beautiful to look at and varied in its locations. That, in itself, is a pleasure to a Fallout lover. I have played solo quite a bit and I enjoy that because I can take my time, fully explore and read the terminals and notes, listen to holo tapes etc. and I'm intrigued by the story which I have a growing sense of. It's also very fun to run around with friends and do quests, take on big enemies etc. There's some great additions to the enemies in the form of weird and wonderful creatures. The perk system is surprisingly deep which provides so many options in the kind of build you want to go for.
On the downsides, I *am* becoming frustrated with the inventory and stash limits which are manageable but just not fun to manage. THIS IS BEING INCREASED! Just read Bethesda's latest bulletin and am very happy about that. I also want to get deeper into base building, having been really into the settlement building in FO 4, but am going through a spell at the moment where my base has been removed every time I rejoin the game and my main building (which is blueprinted) is dismantled. Feeling a bit fed up about that but it may be something I'm doing wrong....I'm working on it and will report back. I should add that that's only just started happening, Prior to the last day or two either my base was where I left it or I could replace it perfectly without any problems. Performance wise I'm not experiencing the freezes and crashes that some people are reporting, It gets a bit laggy at times but that's about it. Neither have I experienced a lot of bugs. In fact in my experience it's running pretty well. I'm running a PS4 Pro & have good internet. (I'm also playing on PC and it runs smoother and the game looks even better on that). I'm really looking forward to where this game is going, and I have the strong sense that Bethesda will be continuing to improve on the teething problems and adding new content. Don't believe all the rubbish that's being spouted out there. Game wise it may not be for you, but everyone I gave a free code to so they could participate in the BETA (Bethes gave all who pre-ordered 3 free codes for friends and I had double - PS4 & PC) really enjoyed their time in the game and 100% came out feeling much more positive about the game than they had been prior. Several of them who told me they weren't interested prior to playing it have now bought it and are having a good time with the game. This is a good game with some things that need to be improved, and they are being improved. I'm happy with it.

I'm thoroughly enjoying the game yes it's a little buggy but that's to be expected of any online only game while it's more fun whilst playing with friends it's still enjoyable solo.

Also pay no mind to all the salty people giving the game negative reviews they're just salty it's not the game they wanted and their mentality is if i don't like then nobody should like it

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Very fun and super addictive gameplay. That being said, there are so many bugs that I am lead to believe this game was not finished properly before release and that is very disappointing. One major quest cannot be completed because you have to kill some guy and when you finally get there, the guy is already dead, this is a disgrace!
The crafting is very cool and there are some nice weapons + many places to explore on the map + colorful landscapes, but the graphis overall suck big time compared to other ps4 pro-enhanced titles.
I like this game a lot but I hope they fix the bugs because this game is sometimes unplayable, yes it's that bad. This game crashes my ps4 pro so I have to unplug the power cord and put it back in for my ps4 to work again, but I keep playing it because it's pretty damn good.

I have played 50 hours of this game and I’m planning many more. Before I start I want to confirm I am a fan of fallout since fallout 2 before Bethesda owned the franchise. I’ve played hundreds of hours on fallout 3, NV and Fallout 4. This is not like those, this isn’t fallout 5. What this is, is an online spin on the franchise, an awkward experiment. I’m not big on PVP, I enjoy PVE and II have played 50 hours of this game and I’m planning many more. This is not like those, this isn’t fallout 5. What this is, is an online spin on the franchise, an awkward experiment. I’m not big on PVP, I enjoy PVE and I don’t get much out of MMO mechanics so having them absent in this game and a PVE focus suits me perfectly.

If like me, you’ve spent hours scouting the wastelands of past titles, looking for better gear, being drawn into locations and sidetracked by ever more tempting distractions this could be the game for you. It feels like playing fallout 4 but in a brand new large hand crafted location with new ideas and feel. The absence of NPC humans did at first cause me to miss them, the game felt initially a little soulless, but after playing for some time I feel I understand it better and the enjoyment has never let up. You are thrust into a large wasteland devoid of intelligent life, tracing the footsteps of the past, the days leading up to catastrophe, like a cartoon crow picking the bones of what used to be. The feel is something hinted st in previous fallouts but never fully focused on. I am not disputing people trashing this game, there are bugs and things that cause frustration and I have no doubt they will be fixed in time, but the game at its code I appreciate and enjoy.

The RPG elements are light but still present, customisation through swappable perks and upping your special stats each time you level, the biggest customisation is making use of what you find. Playing this game with a friend is great fun but it’s a polarising game, my friends don’t enjoy it as much as me and therefore are more frustrated by the bugs that exist but I enjoy this solo or with them and I believe this can be enjoyed in both ways equally.

With no hint of life beyond mindless mutants and abominations the story and quests are told though radio broadcasts, audio logs and journals found whilst rummaging and ransacking buildings and residences. The feel of heroic looter is refreshing and fun but expect a different experience to fallout 4, I actually play these games side by side depending on what o fancy and if my mates are online. Without the bugs and issues encountered I’d be rating this a 9 as a decent attempt at a PVE multiplayer fallout without just making an MMO ESO style online game with fallout theme.

Despite the bad press and obvious backlash, there is a good game here it just takes time to understand and perhaps a particular preference of the player to enjoy the elements they have focused on. I wanted to share my opinion in case there are players like me out there.

Set a side at times bad framerate and stuttering, some graphical glitches and weird spawning of enemies, the game isn’t half bad at all!
I’ve been playing for a good couple of hours and can see myself staying in this world for many more.
I have yet to experience the game in a group, although I’ve encountered many other players in the world while exploring or visiting other players camp.
Every player I have encountered has helped me in some way(picking me up when downed, handing me some supplies etc)
It is basically fallout 4 in a new environment and encounters, with forced online and some survival aspects added. And as you can find a physical copy for about 10€, it is very much worth your while(and money).

I love the idea of "new fallout" and am thankful that I get to enjoy more areas to explore and that juicy sweet lore to read/listen to. But something feels off. Is it multiplayer? Is it solo with the option of multiplayer? What actually IS this? I want to absolutely love this game but its hard. I'm sad. I actually went back to Fallout 4 to scratch my Fallout itch while still owning Fallout 76. I do have hopes though. Hopes that Bethesda will patch and update and add to this game. One of my quests is totally broken at the moment and I can't progress further. I know it just came out and I should be patient so i rated high. If they improve it in the next couple of months I'll raise my scoring to an 8 or 9. I just don't think this will get a 10 from me. And that makes me incredibly sad. Expand

It does have missions with stories which are pretty well written for what they are. You need to keep in mind that this isn't a Fallout RPG theres no end goal other than your own survival. You get the feeling you are entering the world in the aftermath of humanity trying to survive and failing.

The lore doesn't really stack up there's a substantial Brotherhood of Steel presence which I think is pushing the boundaries a bit too much for my liking.

I quite like the new VATS system, feels more realistic than the old one which slows time. Along that line looking at your pipboy doesn't pause the game which takes some getting used to. You have to use the favourites menu or you've got no hope when theres a lot of enemies rushing you. It's a lot about preparing before you head out exploring and taking time to check your inventory and put weapons and health in the correct slots.

I don't like the weapon level caps on simple things like knifes and shotguns. A strength cap on the heavy weapons or intelligence on some of the energy weapons would have been far better. If you can load a magazine into a pipe pistol I'm sure you can do the same for the 10mm pistol. Also if you can hit someone with a machete you can easily stab them with a combat knife.

The S.P.E.C.I.A.L system seems fine for a survival game. Doesn't seem to allow you to become a one person army too quickly. In FO4 it was far too easy to become this indestructible being carving a path of destruction through the wasteland.

C.A.M.P is also functional, I'm not a big base builder in general, stick some benches, water purifiers, a bed and some turrets down and off you go.

Thirst and hunger mechanics are painful to begin with, get the perks that help food and water last longer it makes these mechanics much less of a pain to deal with.

Could it have been better, well yes of course, the game is way behind the competition graphically. NPC's as everyone has said would make the game feel more complete.

Building a camp and attracting other settlers to join up and help with camp tasks would have been great. Seeing if you can build yourself a thriving community is definitely a missed opportunity. Having trade stands which generate items which you could sell to other players for caps, assigning settlers to security to protect the camp, having to find/craft weapons and armour for them, etc. Are all things which could have added a lot of depth to the game. I think this is probably impossible on the non-pro PS4's with the way the game sometimes struggle when there are more than a few enemies rushing you.

I should also add I've not paid for or ever plan to pay real world money for cosmetic upgrades via the atoms system. I don't see the point of paying for cosmetic upgrades, I have no need to "stand-out" in game.

First of all, you CAN'T rate a game like Fallout 76 upon the first hours of gameplay and I feel that's what a lot of the awful critics did.

On my initial game time of about 2h, Yeah I would've rate the game "Mediocre" too. But after a couple more game sessions, reaching level 8, getting to spend some perks so that water and food isn't meant to kill me anymore and getting into it a bit

But after a couple more game sessions, reaching level 8, getting to spend some perks so that water and food isn't meant to kill me anymore and getting into it a bit more, I still think this game is under-achieving for a Fallout title but I'll be sticking to it!
    I believe...

It has potential and it seems like it's been getting better already!
I'm not getting many disconnections anymore, less glitches and I'm actually having fun playing it!
It's not a "WOW" factor like I had initially playing Fallout 4 or games like God of War or Horizon Zero Dawn but still I'm enjoying it.

So if I had to rate the game upon my very 1st experience, it would've been somewhere between a 2 or a 4 / 10 like most of the people here.
And like most people here, I tought "WTF, I'm just gonna return this garbage of a game..."

Now I'd probably crank it up 2~3 notches at about 6~7 /10.
I doubt it will ever reach a 9-10 state but with some more tweaks it could be an 8/10 which would be just fine!

You can't judge a sandbox game like this before you actually saw more than just the beggining of it.
Radiations, Food and Water thingie was a turn-off for me in the first 4-5 levels and I was wondering how I would manage to deal with it in a long term manner but after spending 2-3 perks, it now became easily manageable.

So I understand the frustrations of most people giving the game 0-2 score but if you would've actually cared to play more than a couple of hours before rushing here to bash on it, maybe there'd be more 5-6-7s which would be more accurate.
Let it grow on you a bit you might be surprised!

Fallout 76 has as background stage Appalachia, a representation of West Virginia. And it's a much bigger map than Fallout 4. The sounds and chaotic, inhospitable and apocalyptic environments of Fallout have always been good and in Fallout 76 they have kept the same quality, although the graphics engine is very dated, but that's something I'll talk about later. Anyone who knows the formula of this series, will easily become familiar with Fallout 76. Explore locations and homes, avoid radioactive sites, shoot down enemies, etc. This is all part of DNA Fallout.

Being a game always online, the (public) servers of the game are dedicated. It's a pity that we have to take the Player vs Player, which implies that there may be that fear because of this or that player might ruin our progress and steal our base that was built. What... isn't even a plus for Fallout 76. Luckily, when we die, we lose only rubbish and some caps (about the last, we only lose if we are defeated in a PvP confrontation). And whenever we die we have to do Respawn and pay a certain number of caps (it depends on how far we are from the place where we died) to be in X location that we have discovered. Yes, it is possible to recover the garbage that we lost, is just go to the place where we were slaughtered. Bethesda is expected to keep the promise of adding private servers in a future update to avoid clashes with other players. And of course, it's possible to invite friends or strangers to our group or join an existing group.

Speaking of gameplay, it's almost the same as the previous Fallout and the player is still able to choose the 3rd or 1st person perspective. As it is a multiplayer game, the only thing have changed in the gameplay was the V.A.T.S. (Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System), and if Fallout 4 allowed us to pause the game and target certain parts of the body of our enemy and see them "cinematicaly" take with our bullets, this Fallout 76 takes place in real time and this time we can only target the torso.

In most missions we have to get to a specific location to get some recording and listen to it in our Pip Boy, pick up some object, use a certain option on the terminals or kill a specific enemy. Fallout 76 has online events to complete, which offer items and XP as a reward. For example, we have to survive several waves of enemies, and if we complete that same event, we win XP, caps, drinks and ammunition, among other things. The hability to construct bases, which was added in Fallout 4, is also present in Fallout 76. It serves to render useful the garbage we collect while exploring the map and make resources and defenses. Don't worry, in case you are out of the game, you don't lose those bases that were built because they will be engraved on your profile.

There are temporary challenges to do and if we succeed in one of these challenges, we get atomics or a pack of perks for our S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system. And speaking of this system, each time we level up, we gain a point of experience that can be used to improve one of seven attributes: Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility or Luck. When opening a pack of cards, we gain perks such as Lead Belly (Endurance) or Iron Fist (Strength), which can be placed in our system S.P.E.C.I.A.L.. If you have repeated cards, in some perks we can merge those cards. And now, for example, if we have Lead Belly on level 3 and Endurance on level 2, the card cannot be used because it has to be equal to or worse than the level of our attribute. Atomics are used to acquire clothes, hair, skins, emotes, icons and other cosmetic things in Atomic Shop. These atomics can also be acquired through microtransactions.

Talking about the negative aspects, Fallout 76 maintains four chronic problems of the previous entries of the series, namely graphs, Bugs, Glitches and Freezes. Fortunately, the frame rate is slightly more stable after the 1.02 update. As for the graphics, it is inadmissible that Bethesda Game Studios use the same engine already almost 10 years. Fallout 76 has a dated look. Then there are too many bugs and glitches. Even after the 1.02 update has fixed some of the abnormal situations, there is still a long way to go, because there are still too many issues in quests that prevent me from completing them. And as for freezes, whenever I want to use V.A.T.S. or Pip-Boy, there's always got to be a hiccup to annoy me a bit. It is a case to say that Bethesda was stagnant in time.

Don't be fooled; I like the Fallout series. And Fallout 76 is packed with mysteries, places to explore, has a good atmosphere and is a fun game to play with friends. But that's not enough. The lack of private servers, the constant flaws and the super-dated graphics engine is to let the hair stand. Fallout 76 comes closer to a Multiplayer mode of Fallout 4 than a new game. And in my opinion, it is a game that isn't worth buying already, by having into count what it offers and the many problems.

I lost two handmade rifles by now, due to **** programming. Once I dropped it for my friend to mod, since he had a better receiver and the paper bag with the weapon just vanished infront of my eyes, same happened with 400 steel scrap I dropped for said friend and it vanished once again. The second time I found a handmade rifle, went about my way, after couple hours of playing closed the game and boom, the next day my rifle was gone....AGAIN.
Another thing that pisses me off quite a bit, is wtf is up with the spawn rate of junk items like military ammo bags and weapons or ammo boxes and medicine/chem boxes being empty? Every damn time I get into a new server, they never "refill" or respawn the f*cking items, it's ridiculous and when someone else grabs the **** before you get the chance to, it's all **** and gone just like that. They need to fix that **** ASAP.
I still give this an 6/10 cause it at least is fun and still interesting to wander about discovering and looting locations with people you know. F*ck the RPG elements, Fallout 4 already had 0.

"Are there changes or updates coming in the future?" the people ask. "No," says the man at Kotaku, "Bethesda just took the money and ran, they don't care about the people". From this, I chose the impossible. I chose to play Fallout 76 and see it for its real value.
Initially, I was hesitant to write this review. People who are somewhere between having played for two hours and never having played this game love to come here and just endlessly dress this game down. I felt that my genuine opinion, and my insatiable love for this game would just be drowned out, among the incessant waves of "why was this made", "Bethesda was just looking for a quick check", and "the graphics are bad". But I remembered a powerful lesson that I learned as a youth, that shaped me into the strong, God-fearing man I am today: A man chooses. A slave obeys. A man chooses to play this game, and see it for what it truly is, and to understand the deeper meaning behind it. A sheep is told to come here, slap a "0 out of 10" and whine about the controls and occasional glitches.
Yes, there are some minor flaws. A couple bugs here, some glitches there, but what games never had any flaws. Even Grand Theft Auto V, a game hailed as some kind of magnum opus, had a myriad of issues upon its initial release. But look past these minor issues, and all you will see is a modern masterpiece before you. People love to pound the pavement about the graphics. Red Dead 2, the game that most philistines love to compare Fallout 76 to, came out ten (10!) years after the original Red Dead. That is ten, long years all set aside for the RDR team to work on the new game and improve everything. Bethesda's Fallout team got to work on 76 the second Fallout 4 wrapped up. The release of 76 was just three (3!) short years after Fallout 4 released. I hardly see how that is a fair comparison.
I urge anyone who comes across this review to boot up 76 and look past your biases, and unwarranted hatred for this game, and revel in the wonderland that is Fallout 76.

alright, so this is not the best game ever, but still its not a garbage too. I played for several hour now and after you got a good basic of all the item, weapon, gun you can enjoy it more. but before that you dont really have the choice to play with always the same tactic over and over.
The game feel bit empty, but in the same they put some many different creature.
    not bad but not

It's a bit experimental and not as focused on the usually main quest driven story of past fallout titles but it's still a fun game with the same core game loop of looting/exploration mechanics the other Bethesda fallout titles have perfected. Sure there are no NPCs but the environmental storytelling when playing solo and the fun to be had playing co-op is a good trade-off in my opinion. It's a bit experimental and not as focused on the usually main quest driven story of past fallout titles but it's still a fun game with the same core game loop of looting/exploration mechanics the other Bethesda fallout titles have perfected. There are many negative review citing stability and glitches and in my experience of 15 hours played so far have had no problems. To be honest it is one of the most stable Bethesda games on release ever (which is a huge feat given the conversion from single player to multiplayer on the same game engine).

The game bogs down at times, mostly when in an area with a lot of other players (events where there are more than 3 players working together tends to kill the frame rate). There are quite a few graphical bugs, but most are texture pop-in's at a distance and aren't really noticed unless you're looking for them. I've encountered one quest killing bug so far where I was stuck in a terminal, unable to even open the main menu to quit the game properly, but my progress was saved so it wasn't a critical failure.

Overall the game has lived up to my expectations, but there are some bugs and graphical issues that need working out. Don't believe all the scores of zero, because as someone who has actually played the game, I can tell they haven't.

I Only have about 2-3 hours into the game so far. But frankly i think this game fills a hole that not many other games do. I love wandering through the wilderness with guns, looking for food and water, collecting junk and building a fortress. It is a little buggy, and I can see why some people might not like it. But it is no where near a 3/10.

I'm over 30 hours in, level 35, and there's still tons of content, areas to explore, and story to dig into. So to make things simple, I'll dig into what this game offers and what it lacks. Also as a side note, I don't factor in bugs with my reviews, as I'm rating the game based off of fun factor, as that's what people play games for.

Pros of Fallout 76 (Consider this all to be for unmodded Fallout)
The best character customization Fallout has ever had. (Layered armor/clothing)

    The best weapon/armor crafting

The simplest survival mechanics, balance between eating, drinking, and radiation

    The largest most diverse world

    The largest variety of enemies

    The most weapons

The best shooting (though admittedly, Fallout shooting is not amazing)

More perks than Fallout has ever had.

True perk builds. I've seen tons of perks to improve shotguns, pistols, melee weapons, big guns, laser weapons, automatic rifles, automatic pistols, and more. And yes, I mean more than Fallout 3, NV, or 4 had combined. If you want to try a build, it's likely in the game. All weapon types finally seem viable.

Multiple builds per character thanks to the way that perk cards work. You don't need to make a new character if your build ends up with something that you don't care for. You can simply swap the card to suit your needs, assuming you have the proper card.

Great soundtrack. I've heard songs from Fallout 3 as well as many new tracks put into the game. The ambient world music is amazing as well, and helps to capture the vibe of the different biomes. Boss creatures have their own music as well which really adds to the action when they show up.

Unrestricted player trading. This is balanced by the fact that weapons and armor have levels to keep them in check. They also break, so being equipped with top tier gear only matters if you can maintain it. The best part about this though, is that you can sell things to anyone or you can just drop them. It keeps groups organized and ready when you have a good balance of food and ammo. It helps if you have a steady team where one person does the crafting/repairs so that you can build your character differently. This goes more into reinforcing the team aspect of the game which many games nowadays try to include and fail miserably.

Attention to small details. Most of your story comes from notes and terminals, so if you're the type to read those things, this game has a ton of depth.

Cons of Fallout 76 (Some of these are subjective. The PvP is not)
PvP is unrewarding garbage. The mechanics to enter PvP are terrible and serve as a major annoyance. Being able to see everyone on the map invites griefing, and there's essentially no reward for killing other players or destroying their property. There's no satisfaction whatsoever in getting a high bounty, and because when you're wanted, everyone can find you, there's all risk. That said, there is a dedicated PvP which is better, as everyone there has the same intention and you don't find yourself getting punished by systems that shouldn't be in play. This stops any player from living the fantasy of being a wasteland raider who ambushes and kills unsuspecting people.

While there are NPCs, they're all robots or super mutants. This isn't inherently bad, but it makes the characters you encounter less surprising. They do have unique voices, but this also means that there are no real settlements other than those made by players for players, and no one is going to congregate while the game is new and full of things to do and find.
Lack of nonhuman NPCs means that there are no Raiders as well. This is where I start deducting from the game's score. If the PvP worked fine it wouldn't be an issue, but because it doesn't, the wasteland feels less immersive when you know you'll never run into raiders trying to own all they can by force.

A few of the perk setups are badly designed. Most perks stack in the game, but Lockpicking and Hacking don't. Meaning that there's close to no chance that you'll be unlocking max level anything before hitting endgame. You can't just stack multiple of the same for these two cards to improve at it and that leaves it fully to RNG.

The respawn system. Respawning in this game really detracts from the danger of the wastes. When you die you can just come back nearby until all the enemies are dead. Fallout with a lack of gameovers makes things feel pretty easy and that's a turn off to a lot of people. This bothers me most in PvP however, as I can kill a wanted player and he can spawn back, until I run out of healing items.

The only reason people hate on this game is because it has Fallout in the title.

With that said, let me start by saying that I love this game, and I'd really put it down for positive instead of mixed, but THIS GAME IS NOT FOR EVERYBODY but some of us genuinely love it! This is not singleplayer Fallout experience and it's not meant to be, but that's what most criticisms are about. If you're really interested, I'd look at both side of the story, not just the negative or positive.

Firstly, the game feels like Fallout 4. It was designed to be multiplayer Fallout 4. It's not Rust, or Ark, or PUBG. It feels like F4. It's exploration survival. I've played solo and that is the most accurate way I can describe it. However, as it is meant to be multiplayer, there are features added and taken away. It is the nature of the genre. Really if you stopped reading my review by now, the one thing you should take away is that it is meant to be a multiplayer! It's also not meant to be Fallout 5.

Onto gameplay, combat mostly similar to Fallout 4 with improved melee. Obviously, time stopping/delaying VATS was taken out, but real time VATS has its advantages. If you're getting swarmed and you cant aim quick, use VATS. It's also great with melee.

Crafting is amazing! There's so many stuff to craft. Crafting was present in F4, but this is the first time I've actively used the crafting system, and had positive experience with it. CAMP system though needs improvement. Not a lot of options atm, but probably less priority than fixing the game.

The big thing is probably the quest system. There is a narrative. Like F3 and F4 though, the main quests are mediocre but where they really shine is the side quests. Not all quests end up with dead people at the end or robots. This is probably most likely from people who just rushed through the main story. There are so many other things to do! They're not just fetch quests either. The addition of events makes it more fun, but again, this is designed for multiplayer. I've played an event solo. It is difficult but doable. But when I joined other people, it was rewarding to work on something together

Yes, they add more depth, but it makes sense in this case. It's only 25 years after the bombs dropped, AND there is the threat of the Scorched, which you need to nuke to defeat. This game is still fun, and because of that, this game deserves less hate. People keep talking about "Oh, it's buggy" and "Oh, it crashes". 1: It is not buggy and 2: It does not crash. Maybe on PS4 and Xbox it's different, but I enjoy playing this game. People can hate on it has much as they like, but I won't care. If I enjoy it, I will play it! Expand

Having played the beta and live, I can say that my experience playing solo was just ok.

I enjoy exploring a new wasteland with fallout mechanics. But, the lack of an engaging story and non-robot npcs is sorely missed.

The random events are a nice touch, but I'd rather see these added into a new solo game.

Entirely reasonable Fallout entry. A lack of short-scripted human NPC's isn't a problem, many quests in previous games were driven from terminal entries and holotapes. It just means that instead of hammering "next" on the NPC speech until you get to a speech check / option, you have to actually read, or listen. This may be the problem many are having when they denounce the game as havingEntirely reasonable Fallout entry. Don't like multiplayer? Well, if you just loiter in the "tutorial" area that you emerge in, yes, you'll be swamped with other people. Wander off across the map and the chances of finding other people drops sharply.

If you weren't into the base-building aspect of FO4, you probably wont be keen on FO76.

It's also worth adding that a number of reviews, be them here, amazon or otherwise, seem to be reviewing the BETA. If you're going to review a game, wait until it's fully released at least.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Many of these reviews are reacting to a new idea, and many people are against the change. The core of this game was to try something new and let the community rebuild after the apocalypse. The reviews that state that this game isn't Fallout are correct, some of the lore has been rewritten unfortunately which is my biggest complaint.

    Gameplay:
The gameplay has a new feel to it with live action VATS, multiplayer, and the C.A.M.P system. Its refreshing as a lot of complaints surround games like Call of Duty are that its the same mundane idea. The players you meet are generally respectful and for the ones who like to take a darker route, there is a punitive system for them. This is not a lazy rebuild of Fallout 4.

    Graphics:
The graphics haven't changed much since last generation, which people are inexplicably angered by. You take a game and add a multiplayer aspect to it then expect next gen new graphics is unreasonable. This takes more power from the servers and client side systems to run it. Not everyone has the ability to do this, look at how ARK: Survival Evolved works on a standard XBOX One or PS4. This allows more players to get this game, which in return helps the consumer and the producer.

    Bugs:
While there are definitely bugs within the game, do not believe the reviews that state it is riddled with them. The amount of bugs I have encountered since the day one release has been relatively low, and definitely not game breaking. Since the day one patch, Bethesda showed its community it cared by releasing a patch larger than the game itself to fix the bugs.

    Micro-purchases:
Yep, there are micro-purchases for Fallout 76, but they don't make you better at the game. These micro-purchases are all purely cosmetic.

    Summary:
This is not your standard Fallout, its an attempt at a new idea, just like ESO. The game is definitely enjoyable and focuses a lot on team work. It can be challenging by yourself but doesn't let groups of players abuse the lonely ones. Bethesda has pushed to fix bugs and create something new for its players but has been shunned like many of the large game producers. Don't let the day one reviews fool you, they haven't full experienced the game yet, not many have.

    Recommendation:
Wait a week or two before buying so that a majority of bugs are fixed and they dynamic of the game has been completely experienced so that an educated decision can be made before purchase.

For the price i think that is too high...infact i got it with 45% discount! What i hope is that Bethesda puts more effort in working on more stuff for the game, like, for exemple, Facepunch does with Rust. In conclusion, Fallout 76 is what i was expecting when in 2017, before it was announced, i was imagining what Fallout 4 in multiplayer would look like... so it's worth it? Probably! But the price needs to decrease. Expand

(I haven't experienced anything game breaking) I've had a problem with a few of the design choices such as quest markers not properly showing where you need to go which can result in some confusion while looking for the next objective. The game stutters from time to time on my Ps4 Pro but again nothing too irritating. The main issue that has bugged me so far is the fact that textures sometimes don't load in until you are close to the environment and also when the whole areas enemies spawn all in one space and then swarm you which can be massively overwhelming if you are playing solo but I'm sure if we mention these issues to Bethesda they will fix this but we have to remember this is all new ground to them and they need our input and our support to make this the game we really want. I've found that I really enjoy the game down to its core as its more fallout and thats all I could wish for. The world to me is interesting and I don't feel like the lack of npcs is too bad and I'm a solo player. It's far from perfect but it could be one hell of a game if we help them get it right. They've shown they are listening and that's a good sign. I'll be playing the game and supporting it as long as they are and right now I'm enjoying this unique experience that I thought they would never do. Expand

The fundamental problem is that Bethesda fans are single player rpg fans. This game is a stark departure from that formula. Hence all the negativity. I was one of those who fell in love with FO3 and have played every Bethesda rpg since... this game is no fun by yourself... BUT with friends it is a rollicking good time.

You start out with 100 carry weight (that’s terrible for a fallout game) and so you get over encumbered ALOT!! And also the “My stashes” in the game (basically the place where you put your items in but you have the ability to find them all over the map so you can access you stuff.) only has a max weight limit of 400 weight which is STUPID!!! Because that is nothing at ALL so it’s very frustrating because you are constantly again over encumbered all the time!! It’s got to the point where I am now stuck over encumbered... I have heard there fixing this (hopefully soon) i don’t know how well but we will see I just hope they will fix this game because it’s actually ALOT of fun especially with friends! If your looking to play don’t come looking for your typical fallout experience look at it more as a mod or an addon to fallout 4. But something I wish they would have done is delayed the game and fixed these issues before launch so the game could be more stable, but I give them a bit of a pass because it’s there first online game so they have that but a lot needs to be improved on!! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My Fallout 76 review, to put it simple the game is a Blast. I have over 30 hrs played since Tuesday and been having a blast. Yes the game has no NPC's this is true and listening to holotaps is a bit boring I can agree. If you played MGSV and enjoyed that game for what it was, then you'll like fallout 76. It's basically fallout 4 Online, the game also has a MMO twist and there is some PVP element to it ( just need to tune into a radio station).

9/10 - The reason for my score, because nothing is perfect in this world.

If you're playing solo, you might have to get used to only getting your Quest Hints from Robots and Holotapes - but even then it is still fun to play.

What I currently dislike is the stability of the game and its bugs. It sure feels like it would have needed some more Weeks of Development before release. The lack of choices and talking to characters just means you have to actually listen to the Holotapes and radio plots you find. I would argue this has been one of the better Fallouts and has been a blast to play with friends and randoms on the map. the movable camp adds a big feature that you did get in other games and gives you more versatility when doing missions and exploring. Overall this is a very solid game with some bugs and something Bethesda needs to work out which makes sense, since this was the first game like this in the series. I would 100% recommend buying if you like any of the other Fallouts and give it more than an hour of play time. The gunplay and crafting system are fun. I enjoy the SPECIAL/perks a lot. And the music is of course great.

But really that's all this fallout is doing well at the moment.

I'm already wondering what will keep people playing once they hit lvl 50, end game content doesn't seem great.

However, idk how many people will keep playing to end game. This game is freaking disaster in terms of performance, netcode, and bugs.

I constantly get crashes, have instances of the game freezing for 10+ seconds at a time, runs sluggishly, not to mention all the bugged quests and what not.

I think Bethesda bit off wayyyyyyyy more than they could chew. Fallouts are ALWAYS a buggy mess on release, but this time, this time it's something completely different.

I'd say, if it was a smooth experience and I could judge the game just from content alone, I would give it a 7. However, in it's current buggy mess, I can't deem it anything higher than a 5.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Level 36, stealth sniper:

After completing a quest which involved a gunfight with dozens of molemen (mutated former miners) in a burnt out town who just came at me with waves of shotguns, missile launchers and big freaking metal claws - I got jumped by supermutants on the road. Survived, barely. Custom modded sniper rifle broken, shotgun out of ammo. I literally have a pistol and a freaking spear as my only decent weapons left. However, I had a huge amount of junk of all kinds, food (as soon as I could cook it) and water ( liquor quenches thirst in W. Virginia). So! I camp out at a defensible spot and, piece by piece, build a high defensible 18th century block fort with turrets in the gun ports and amenities to sleep, cook and repair my gear. Another player, level 17 shows up. We wave, we chat. He wants to adventure together and I shake my head. I’m doing single player for the survival aspect and to not gun blaze through the story elements. I give him a fusion core and some goodies. “I want your gun and your gas mask.” The little jerk shoots me in the leg and we go into pvp! @^)@&$:$. My double barreled shotgun and the guns on my fort take care of him each time he tries to come from a different angle. Eventually, he got bored of dying and took off. Finally, I was about to have some peace to cook my soup and fix my sniper rifle when I heard the screech of that giant mutated bat / dragon Scorchbeast. I try to fast travel somewhere away but I am still overencumbered. In the process, I saw on my map a level 50 murderer player headed directly my way. I duck and cover inside my fort and prepare to die. Crouching in the dark with my double barreled shotgun in my trembling fingers, I listen to the earth shake and things explode as the murderer singlehandedly duels the Scorchbeast outside my fort. With the first rays of morning light, I cautiously climb out of my fort. I take a badass selfie picture with the dead Scorchbeast. Soon, it will be time to hit the roads again.

Know what you are buying, this isn’t fallout 5. It’s something new and different than regular fallout, but that’s not a bad thing as long as you know what you are getting. 2. Ignore the hate. Half the people complaining are holding up new Vegas as the gold standard, well, new Vegas was ripped a new one in reviews when it came out too. 3. Realize before going in that it doesn’t force feed the story to you, you aren’t looking for someone you lost, or trying to find some lost tech. You have to go looking for the story, but it is there. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm shocked at the number of low ratings that many reviewers are giving this game, are we even talking about the same game here??? Because my experience has been much more enjoyable that what most claim judging by the number of really poor reviews.

At any rate, I personally love Fallout 76. I pre-ordered, played BETA and have 40+ hours since launch. I haven't had this much fun with a pc game since Fallout 4. Sure it has a few bugs, but nothing that's a show stopper. IMO, this game was developed using Agile Methodology, delivered as an MVP, and not a fully finished product; which is standard practice these days with software development and not the exception. That being said, it's still an incredible fun game to play with a lot of depth and freedom to roam.

The map is MASSIVE. I was surprised at how seldom I bump into other players, and most are cordial, if not helpful. You can play this game solo or team up with your friends or occasionally the other player(s) you might meet along the way. You can spend the first several hours (or don't) chasing around a series of holotapes left behind like a trail of breadcrumbs from the Vault 76's Overseer. Along the way you’ll find several holotapes from other survivor groups that didn't make it, e.g., the responders, fire-breathers, raiders, and many more. There's no shortage of left behind robots and computers that can provide you with missions. One in particular is Rose, a nannybot-turned-raider. Sure, she's not a NPC like Curie from F04, but still enjoyable with the darker humor I would expect from the Fallout series.

This is a survival game, with several metrics you must monitor in order to stay alive. It does require a different playing style than what you’d typically expect from FPS and/or RPG. You must be more conservative with your ammo or scrounge around looting and scrapping to make more bullets and repair your weapons after nearly every conflict. Leveling up does require a fair amount of grinding, if that’s what you want to do. 76 also introduces new creatures that make the dreaded Deathclaw look tame.

Many reviewers have complained about a lack of story, that it's boring, no "Human" NPCs, etc. But I strongly disagree, it has plenty of stories scattered all over the Appalachian wasteland. True, you won't find another living "human" NPC character, and I'm good with that because it fits this story.

Understand that you are emerging from the safety of your vault for the first time into a post-apocalyptic world, and to your horror, you discover that all human survivors (non-vault dwellers) are either mutated into the Scorched or dead. It is a lonely, radiated world after all.

I'd give this game an 8/10, however, and since there are so many 0/10's, I'm giving it a 10 here to offset all the zeros. The game is not for everyone and more buggy on some platforms than others, but I think many of these extremely low reviews are disingenuous and unfair.

Really? The people who are complaining amaze me. Yes, an online game has to be online to be played... it's not rocket science, just about every single game I have played in the past 5 years has to be online... it's not a new thing.

My only complaint is the server side lag here and there and how sometimes it is hard to connect to the server initially.

The game has so much interesting stuff to do especially with other "Humans" I don't honestly care about there not being as large of a main linear story line anyways. Best fallout I have ever played, given I have been wanting a co-op feature since 3 came out. No one deceived you though, I've been hearing people cry since they announced it about it not being so story oriented so it should have been public knowledge this is not your typical fallout. This is something new, which you don't see very often in the gaming world.

Its about making your own story and having an online multi-player experience. Just because someone doesn't tell you how to play the game doesn't make it less of a game. One of my favorite games, Killing Floor 1 and 2, never had a story mode of any kind. Story line heavy games will always have too much linear progression to really be a true experience of free will and choice anyways, this has been my largest complaint with the cookie cutter MMO scene. I have been waiting for a fresh multi-player world that is actually interesting to just explore and have fun with friends or strangers. This game delivered so much of what I have been looking for, for years.

Not to mention tons of improvements to the crafting system over fallout 4 as well as bringing back the best elements from the hardcore mode of new vegas and bringing back weapon degrade but with a better method of weapon repair over the old fallout games. Perks are now down with cards so you can rebuild your perk tree later on if you don't like the path you took, over all nothing but improvements to the core game play.

I was worried about it since elder scrolls online was so bad and just a cookie cutter MMO, and normally Bethesda sort of just copies their elder scrolls games to fallout instead of fallout getting it's own things, but this was an original idea that would have HUGE blow back from people who just want to play the same thing over and over and was a giant risk that I am even surprised they took it. I am glad they did. Even if all the people crying makes them never release such a game again at least I have the multi-player game I have been wanting for years, at least until the cry babies get the servers shut down.

If you wanted a single player storyline driven game, you should not have bought Fallout 76. It is basically a new flavor of multi-player game that is driven around player to player interaction with survival and loot type game play in the Fallout Universe.

it is no where near as brutal and punishing (until hardcore servers are released) as other survival titles. if playing survival has scared you off, this is the title to jump in and get your feet wet.

the bugs are pretty typical of an mmo upon release, you may wish to wait a month or two before purchase for those to be ironed out.

lastly, i recommend any of the free build helpers to help you plan your s.p.e.c.i.a.l. points, so you dont waste time on a poor build.

I played since launch day and have put more than 24 hours into the game. I love the Fallout Series and have played all Bethesda Games since the mid 90s. If you’re whining about Bugs in Fallout 76 you haven’t played Daggerfall, but thats another Story…

Producing Video Games costs a lot of money and manpower. For Companies a failure in Sales is a big risk, especially for big ones. As a consequence big Publishers tend to be very conservative. I find this highly annoying. This years Title looks, feels and plays like that from last year. Experiments are spares. I find a lot of games plain boring. “Been there, done that.”

Let’s take a look at Red Dead Redemption 2. The Mission Design hasn’t evolved much since GTA III. And most of the time - forgive me - you look at your horses ass. Sounds fun? Duh…

I think RDR2 is as highly overrated as F76 is underrated. For a lot of reasons. A lot of critic I hear about F76 is “the emptynes of the world”.
It’s a world after a nuclear war? What do you expect?
Besides that I don’t find it empty at all. There is so much to do, so much to explore.

The choice from Bethesda not to put any Human NPCs into the Game is brave and ingenious. This makes the game even better. You are a lone Survivor and every know and then you stumble over another Survivor and he is a humane player. This is the Wasteland I always imagined and wanted. It’s not overcrowded and you fell a lonelynes when you wander through Appalachia. Brillant, Bethesda, Brillant!

Warning! The next passage contains spoilers!

Some of the most memorable moments I had in a Videogame, I had in Fallout 76: one night I was ransacking a house in the woods. When I got out, between the dark trees a pair of big red eyes where gazing at me. Mothman. I ran, like if never run in a game before.
Another time I was doing a quest and suddenly a big flying Creature appeared on the horizon into my direction. I tried to hide, that failed. I was killed instantly. After a respawn a full blown air fight was developing. Some sort of helicopters where attacking the creature.
Both these events where unscripted and I love F76 for those moments.

By the ways so far I played only solo and had a blast. It can only be better coop.

Yes. There are some bugs. But I didn’t discover anything major so far. The launch was normal for an online game. No big downtimes. Since the last patch I didn’t had any lag at all.

For me this is the best Fallout so far and my Game of the Year. I am very curious how this Game will develop.
This is the most underrated Game ever. Period.

You are not playing in a RPG game you just kinda hear about the story that happened through reading or holo tapes.

Then there is the weight limits. In a normal game you could use the console or even find a mod that said, hey, maybe it makes more sense that if you have a Base... you should have a much larger inventory size. But without mods, because multiplayer, we are limited to our very small amount of loot we can keep. I find myself selling most of my aids, just because it weighs me down so much. But then I run into the problem of the robots having a very low cap, and even if you buy something worth 200 caps they only get 20 of that? So you never even get back what you spent. This may have been intentionally, to promote player to player trading, but with such a small weight limit I find most players not even picking up anything they don't need.

Then to the final issue I have really have with the game... the multiplayer aspect and pvp. I like the idea of playing with a friend, teaming up and doin some quests maybe trading some stuff, but I, as I am sure a lot of fallout players do not have many Friends. I met a few people in game but none I really played with a lot.Maybe a hour here or there. A hey trade you my shotgun shells for your .44 or the likes. But I found myself unable to play at my own pace with random people. So, I spent most of my time solo, which was fine. I am highly enjoying the game... until I need to claim anything. I killed this player 8 times as he just zerged this workstation I was at. 10 minutes and he just kept zerging. Eventually he brought 3 friends to just outnumber me and took the work station. I like the idea of pvp in this game, but I feel like it needs a BIG overhaul. It does not reward a solo player, it only rewards players for massing in bands and playing with friends. One scorchbeast drops the same loot for each player, vs solo killing one drops the same loot for just you. I feel like I have to find people to play with just to enjoy the game, which, for me, makes it less enjoyable.

The game still has a core, and it is very fun imo. I was not expecting to like it as much as I am, it has consumed every waking hour of my week. But now, as the end game content is farming at work stations, like the ammo depot, I just feel discouraged to even play. I need ammo to kill the scaled mobs for my quests but making it is to costly and fighting for it is to free. I killed this dude 8 times. and he just came back.

I am mainly writing this because I feel the score it currently has IS way to low for the quality that IS within the game, but it's far from perfect. If anyone actually read this, thank you.

It was always advertised as a survival game (Rust/DayZ) game set in the Fallout universe built on Fallout style gameplay. In that regard it is one of the most fun and content complete of -that- genre.

Story: A lot of the negative reviews I see are complaining about a lack of a main story (Although there is one that I find very interesting to follow along with) - It's more or less about discovering what happened to the survivors of the war and what gave rise to the Scorchbeast menace that may or may not have wiped them out after the bombs dropped. It's mostly presented through the environment, holotapes, terminals, robots, and notes. It's VERY Bioshock in that regard, and I think it's a great approach.

Bugs: I've encountered a few. Item duping/losing which needs to be fixed. However, despite all the rage about it, this has been one of the least glitchy Bethesda games I've played at launch in a very long time. The bigger bugs are already scheduled to be fixed, and Bethesda is starting a weekly newsletter to keep players in the loop moving forward.

Gameplay: It plays just like Fallout 4 more or less. Honestly I feel that it runs a little better, and I think it looks a lot better. The biomes are more diverse and the amount of land to cover is much larger.

Over-encumbrance is a pain because it limits fast travel, but you ca absolutely live with it while searching for a place to scrap and stash.

VATS is back, though since it can't pause a multiplayer world, it works as an aim-assist by default. With proper perks and hotkeys, the user can target specific limbs or auto-crit. I personally love it and use it all the time.

In typical Bethesda game fashion, I often log off with more quests than I started with. Lots of the dailies and events get old, so I do hope that they continue to introduce new ones.

All in all though, I have been having a blast and hope that the community appreciates it for what it is, and not what they convinced themselves that it should be.

There are a few negatives. I have had some minor bugs. Nothing that ruins the experience. The storage limit is entirely too small (the recent patch helps). The forest where you begin is too easy. That being said, venture to new areas and the game can get very difficult.

I am honestly confused about the poor reviews for this game. I believe most stems from people not getting a carbon copy of the existing games. It's really great that Bethesda is willing to take risks. I can understand missing NPCs but I don't think the game suffers from this decision. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fallout 76... despite its many HORRIBLE reviews, all in all it is not a bad game. Many people seem to be under the impression that this game has completely ruined the "Fallout" series. The game was promised to be very diverse and with Bethesda's supossed "new software" have 16x better graphics than "Fallout 4"... well that was a disapointment. The game does seem to have better graphics throughout many parts of it, but as I scoped deeper into it today I realize that the whole garphics thing is a lie. I looked directly at a rock and noticed the graphics were lower and/or at the same quality as a "Fallout 4" brick building. Now, I'm personally a HUGE graphics type of guy considering all the graphic enhancer add-ons i buy for my consoles to make 4k gaming even better than it is, but, I dont consider it a HUGE factor. Bethesda also promised a storyline that a player would follow through the WHOLE game until completion (for those who don't know, yes you can continue to play after completing the storyline). BUT, because the game is based directly with online interactions, there are no NPC's. SPOILER ALERT!!! The whole storyline is the player alone or in a group, following a series of audio journals from various dead people around the game. The storyline is honestly horrible but I still somewhat enjoy it. However, if palying in a group like the game is intended to be played, you never can really hear/understand what the people are even saying. Storylines really affect my reviews, if it was better, maybe this would have gotten a green from me. The final factor of this is the online interaction. Now, meeting some online people is pretty cool, espececially when they help you out with some higher level gear. But what I have come to notice is that the people you meet will either kill you, leave you be without a word, or help you out in some way. But they dont level oit the servers, you will have level 3's running around a town with people that are level 300, and there is no passive mode. The only time you are "passive" is when you are level 4 and below. Level 5 is when the palyer is opened up to the FULL game. I do quite enjoy this game, but it definitely has more potential. Expand

Bethesda, this game is straight doodoo. no npc having game, boring gameplay, buggy asf, broken, pay to win, no fun. This is shameful. Please do not make any future games like this, it is a complete fail.

So utterly disappointing and flawed in every possible way… The first few hours, most of it can be ignored, and occasionally the flaws can be forgotten, but only briefly before they come storming back to the forefront. An awful, boring, empty, pointless experience. There is, however, a glimmer of hope. It's worth mentioning that there has already been a Bethesda title that was equally as unimpressive: The Elder Scrolls Online - but looking at it now, it has transformed into one of the best MMOs out there. There's always the hope the Fallout 76 develops the same way and becomes something special, but for now, that seems impossible. It's a world away from that.

Fallout 76 isn't your typical fallout experience. You don't have NPCs or dialogue, but instead get real players that should fill this void - that ultimately fails to do so. It does some things right, but as of now I cannot recommend getting this game as long as it stays a broken and boring mess that it is right now.

Fallout 76 is the series’ Freshman introduction into the world of online, multiplayer games. As a result, we are experiencing all of the awkwardness and clumsiness associated with that season of life. It is imperfect and a bit uncomfortable, but I see opportunity for Fallout 76 to be more than it presently it - to be a truly great, rich Fallout experience.
