I dont know the last time I genuinely enjoyed a Bethesda Game. I have little faith I will again, and that hurts because I used to hold the company in very high regards. Skyrim? Vanilla bland version of Oblivion. Fallout 4? Fallout for dummies and little to no world design. Doom 2016? Instead of a fast paced fps run and gun you have lots of meaningless, boring, tedious acrobatics, and a game that in general just overstays its welcome.
Im getting off topic though, back to 76.
Now with 76 we have... Nothing. A decent co-op time for sure, but no NPC's, no reason to explore, no uniqueness left in the game whatsoever. The enemy designs are among the best the series has ever had-- I'll give it that. Thats the most I can say, though. Its fallout 4 but with even LESS to do, less content, a larger, more barren map, and a restricted highly limited building system compared to 4's.
This would also be a good time to mention I have ~70 hours in 76, I have played the game extensively since launch. And I understand all the hate. Look at a game like Fallout 3, over a decade old, and holds up better than Fallout 4 or 76 ever will. The game had an actual WORLD. Vivid and practically alive locations and residents, each person was an actual individual, there was something to do at every location and town. 76 is so lifeless its embarrassing Bethesda even /thought/ of this game.

Fallout 76 has next to nothing to offer outside of some fun co-op moments with friends. The entire game is a bland, lifeless experience, and is hardly worth playing. Bethesda is a ghost of who they once were and I doubt they'll ever be back to their golden days. Each game they pump out s just mediocrity after mediocrity. Bethesda is dead.

I finished all of the main, side and misc quests before hitting level 50, firing a nuke is too easy (I set my first one off two days after release) - I hoped this would be difficult and rare since it's more of an "end game" thing and even going into a blast zone is a flop as it's just pure radiated wasteland and/or repetitive enemies that you see in a normal zone, hitting a regular fissure site I saw absolutely nothing, I saw more enemies in a random part of the map blast! Then hitting a prime fissure, you get the "scorched earth" event which seems impossible on PS4 because the frame rate pretty much drops to 1 FPS.

I'm currently playing the game to get a platinum trophy as I'm a big trophy hunter and some of the easy trophies are bugged and will not pop. The game has endless bugs and feels like an alpha rather than a beta.
Very unrewarding experience to say the least.

This game is definitely not suitable for hardcore gamers, if you're a casual then you might enjoy it because the content will drag out but if you're a grinder like myself then you'll have done everything in a week.

The game is not worth its price, and 100$ membership for 'singleplayer' mode is just a joke; but not only this, the main game is still seriously bugged, sometimes even unplayable, and now pay-to-win micro transactions. Just better spend money on The Outer Worlds.

A lonely game that feels like a departure from the traditional fallout experience. Not enough features to make it a true mmo, or single player game; it ends up being mediocre at both. This is nothing more than a generic survival mmo with a fallout theme.

Player interactions for the most part are surprisingly friendly, but exploring an empty world with a companion is only slightly better than exploring the void alone. Bethesda has never been known for their exceptional or even competent gunplay mechanics, and the idea for covering up that flaw in past games, V.A.T.S., is a complete mess within Fallout 76. overall it is a mess and skippable with no real reason for playing other than to experience the trainwreck occur, and the remnants to burn with a confident, albeit melancholic "I told you so" Expand

Fallout 76 is not Fallout. It's hardly even functional. Perhaps it'd be acceptable as a free-to-play down the line. As a paid for product however, this is the worst game of 2018 by a "AAA" studio. As long as Todd Howard and Bethesda continue this dishonest behavior of hyping up garbage, stop supporting them and stop buying their unfinished broken products.

Everything that was Fallout have been removed and you are left with a almost empty shell of a game.

Building is very disappointing and fairly buggy.
PVP is useless and there is no incentive to PVP unless you want to grief people by removing the floor beneath them.
Weapon modification has less then half the options in Fallout 4.
Gear drop is stupid since the good gear has level requirements way above your current level.
There is very little story and about 40% of it you have to read the rest is from holotapes.
There are NPC's but none are memorable or have anything to offer dialogue wise.
The world feel really lifeless, way to lifeless even for a post apocalyptic world. Teaming up with randoms is almost impossible.

There are bugs, but i have not encountered anything game breaking so far. Mostly animation issues and the occasional flying body. Your camp can get reset between log outs if someone else build their camp near yours.
The game is far to easy. You can kill a level 12 mob at level 4 with ease.
Microtransactions are there but can be ignored. But it would be better if they weren't there at all.

But with all that said the game is certainly not a 0/10. With friends you can have a good time but i would be surprised if anyone plays this to max level.

It's not worth the full 60 bucks so you are better of waiting for a sale and get it when it is below 25 bucks.

Maybe Fallout 76 will become like No Mans Sky and actually get good after 1 year of updates, but as it currently stands it's a soulless game made with no passion.

Bethesda's explanation of how this "game" came to be should be evidence enough of how bad Fallout 76 is. It is the laziest of efforts and feels more like a shameless cash grab. I've played every Fallout since the days of 56k modems. Yes they have gotten a bit "worse" over the years as they strayed further and further from the "your choice matters" kind of narrative but I still enjoyed them. You know why? Fantastic story telling and immersion via INTERESTING NPC PERSONALITIES.

I'm just floored that they thought completely removing any NPC interaction would be a good idea. I played the beta and was completely bored within an hour. My wife, who loved watching me play Fallout 4, fell asleep in less than an hour watching me play FO76. It becomes extremely repetitive as soon as you leave the vault. Walk here, find some junk, kill some enemies, loot their junk, find a workbench, scrap your junk... rinse and repeat. The quests don't even serve any real purpose other than helping you find other places to loot some junk. Any quest that asks you to "find where so-n-so went" fall 100% flat since EVERYBODY IS DEAD so you already know you will never find anyone. You end up running from computer to computer, or note to note, until you discover what happened.

I had made a choice to play this rather than RDR2 because I like sci-fi and I'm not really into westerns. After the beta I immediately bought RDR2 and have been loving it. You know why? Fleshed out, totally immersive NPC INTERACTIONS! Bethesda has failed horrendously with this game. I'm giving it a 3 because I like picking up loot a lot, but that only stays fun if I have an immersive story and characters to keep dragging me along.

Any fun to be had from exploring and scavenging will quickly evaporate into frustration due to technical problems at a fundamental level. Core quest design is also heavily hamstrung by not having any NPCs - the lack of consequences or social positive reinforcement for your time and effort makes your adventure seem purposeless.

I see a lot of phony reviews both positive and negative, so I'm gonna give my best shot at a fair objective review.

Lets start with the limited positives:
    - Huge map (this probably the only impressive part of the game)
    - decent survival mechanics
They won't amaze you, but they are fairly deep while not being too obnoxious
    - Group Objectives are fairly well done
Perhaps the only actual content worth playing, sadly they are usually fairly tough to complete solo meaning solo players completely miss out on the only content worth playing.
    - Nice environments
A few places on the map are really nice.

    Negatives:
    - No reason to do anything (really, there is just no point)
    - Holotapes, Holotapes, and did I mention...Holotapes
Whoever thought tape recordings were an adequate replacement for NPCs should be fired. Its soulless and tiresome. It defeats the point in tracking down Suzie when you know all that is gonna be there is her corpse with a tape next to it.
    - Servers have very few players on them
For a game that focuses on multiplayer there are very few multiplayer interactions. Largely because there are only like 3-5 players on a server at the same time and often their levels aren't even close so they have no reason to play together
    - Slow progression
And I mean painfully slow, It definitely feels slower than single player Fallouts. Its clear that rather than give us actual content, Bethesda decided to drag what little content there is out as much as possible. But its not fun, and It makes it nearly impossible to catch up to your higher level friends; which kills the multiplayer angle. Either they are stuck in low level areas not having fun, or you get dragged into high level areas where you still don't level very fast and struggle constantly.
    - Laggy servers
    - Tons of bugs
    - Frame rate drops constantly, and often for no reason; sometimes down to an absolute crawl.
I think you get better frame rates watching a flipbook set in motion than this game.
    - V.A.T.S
Idk why they bothered trying to keep it, might as well have just removed it for this installment. Its ultimately fairly useless in anything except pvp.
    -PvP
Should be a positive, but its executed so poorly its relegated to the negatives. For those that don't know, both players have to to consent to pvp via shooting each other once but the player who fires first is at an extreme disadvantage. From what I can tell, nobody even bothers trying to pvp because there are no rewards or incentives and its not even competitively fair. Aside from that one guy who is level 40 trying to goad level 5s into pvping with him.

    Conclusion:
Fallout 76 does a couple of things right and a whole lot of things wrong. While there are certainly some nice environments and moments you can enjoy; most of the time they are ruined by lag, bugs, or the overwhelming feelings of pointlessness. Its a multiplayer game that you spend most of your time alone and lonely in without any writing or story driven narrative to follow to motivate you to progress. I'm honestly not sure who enjoys this game, but I'm guessing not many people do. Its not a good single player experience, its not a good co-op experience, its not a good pvp experience. Its just a game that tries to do everything and excels at nothing.

I am giving it a 3/10 because it does have a few things that can be appreciated and I feel somewhat generous at that score.

Opinion from the Russian player.

    5: average/mediocre/playable
    4: bad
    3: very bad
    2: terrible
    1: unacceptable/unplayable
    0: malware

    Stability/Bugs:
Fallout 76 is full of bugs that affect your gameplay.
Enemies just spawn around you, teleport around, move at ridiculous speeds, ...
Players are being severely punished for unstable servers.
The game's networking system allegedly opens the floodgates for cheaters and hackers and is therefore potentially harming.

    The Story:
There is no proper story, human NPCs are completely missing without explanation.
    The story contradicts the plot.
The start of the game is uninspired and has no logic at all.
The most common enemy, the scorched, have a very contradictory backstory.

    Gameplay Design:
When starting the game, it sometimes spawns you in the middle of a nuclear explosion, surrounded by enemies, in the middle of an irradiated river or in other problematic positions.
It also very often just removes your house from the game, apparently because "something" was in the same spot on that particular server.
You can't place buildings where they were before, because placement by building parts and placement by blueprint have different placement constraints.
In certain areas enemies just respawn within seconds.
Sometimes enemies' corpses just disappear within seconds before anyone can loot them, despite the game having a mechanic that preserves corpses for looting.
Playing together (which is the base idea of the game) is made difficult when player's levels differ.
If you have 2 lvl20 players in your party and 1 lvl40 player, the game will spawn tons of lvl40 enemies on events and quests, which lvl20 players will have a hard time fighting against and won't be rewarded appropriately either.
PvP is made hard to pull off, puts attackers on a disadvantage, serves no purpose and raises the question if it would even benefit the game if it was patched to actually work.
Except for a bunch of voice recordings and a variety of mostly very common MMO quests, the world has no substantial reason to be visited.
The leveling system, espcially the perk cards, is very bad:
Through the franchise it went from "design a very special/specific person, and then keep them alive as they develop as a character" to "shuffle cards to find out what you're able to do" with a severe disconnect between the character's abilities from who they are - since the player character themselves has no personality.

    Level/Map Design:
The world map was clearly rushed out, since there are quite a lot of random objects floating high in the sky which were probably not cleaned up properly (which usually happens when the creator is in a hurry).

    Graphics:
Alpha-textures flicker for a while occasionally.
Godrays sometimes come out of the ground.
Shadows sometimes follow the player's point of view, instead of actual light sources.
Depth of field can't be turned off, sometimes causes unsharpness to occur in the middle of the screen and occasionally misses out a mode-switch which causes you to see the world in the blurry DoF, that you see at the borders of your scope, while not using your scope.
The game sometimes destabilizes and loads low-LOD objects instead of high-LOD objects.

    Recommendation:
I highly recommend to put this game into re-development.
It is riddled with bugs, has a contradicting uninteresting story and suffers from very poor gameplay design decisions. Comparing this game with the rest of the installments of the franchise a purely Co-Op based Online functionality would have been better to bring players together. PvP could still happen through a separate optional system (such as signing up for it at an arena). The start of the game could have been staged as a dire struggle for survival of the (actually alive and mostly computer controlled) population of Vault 76 as they open the doors (together!) for the first time with story/quest initiators like missile silos or the nuclear power plants Co-Op players could for example take control over an NPC they created themselves, who is one of the vault dwellers. Knowing that this game is probably too big of a failure and the old storytelling method is just that: old, I recommend a reboot with said changes, that puts effort into proper dramaturgy.

What a disaster. Why Bethesda thought a multiplayer Fallout game would work is beyond me. For starters, the game is painfully boring. All "quests" are given by a robot or a holotape. I played almost all the previous Fallout games; the 3rd stil remains the best for me and the 4 well, I enjoyed it btw. But...this one...honestly, I can't give more than 3 out of ten...potentially it might have been a good game, but...it is probably one of the worst Fallout ever "made"; sorry, maybe the correct word is "arranged"...'cause this game is simply embarrassing.

Fallout 76 is a disappointment in every possible way. All you do is walk around and pick up items and kill stuff. There is an almost non-existent story told through audio logs. This just goes against everything the Fallout Franchise stands for. If Bethesda really wanted to make an online Fallout game they could have just added optional coop to a Fallout. Also don't get me started with the bugs.

I have ran into many other players and they have not attacked me, that is a PLUS! There are no human NPC's. We all know this. We are the NPC's for later games. That is the point. You do get most of your missions from holograms or computers, but that is fine. The game world is great. The map is huge. I want to explore, but I am a level 10, I will wait a little while for that. YOU DO NOT NEED TO PLAY MULTIPLAYER! You can go at is solo. That's what I am doing. Please ignore all the low scores. Everyone knew exactly what they were getting into with this game, it was no secret. Nothing will ever beat New Vegas, this game isn't even close. If you liked Fallout 4 for the most part, you will like this game. If you are a Fallout fan in general, you should play this game JUST BECAUSE! Solid 7 so far.

    UPDATE!!!!!!!!! 15 Nov 2018 5 p.m.

Ok, so there i was just minding my own business and two idiots decide to follow me around forever all the while shooting me. You do take damage after every shot. I was under the impression, if they fire at you and you don't fire back, you only take that first bit of damage, but no, you will continue to lose health. It isn't much health, but still! I don't mind other players running around in the world, but Bethesda really should make an option where if you want to interact or not. If you don't, you should still see the people, but not interact with them.. That's what I think. When I am trying to complete a mission, being attacked by ghouls, that is enough, but no, you have to worry about other people attacking you. Its dumb...DUMB DUMB DUMB. Weren't we all supposed to be from the same vault rebuilding the world? Why would we kill each other? I will leave the score the same. I am still enjoying this game, but I hope Bethesda changes certain parts of the "online" experience.

    UPDATE!!!! 16 Nov 2018 1 p.m.

Back again with another update. I am really really trying to like this game. I keep telling myself that it is Fallout, I LOVE FALLOUT, but after a while, it doesn't feel like Fallout anymore. A major gripe that I have is using melee weapons. I get swarmed by level 1 ghouls, I am a level 15. I swing the golf club, the ghoul moves. It takes forever to set up again and swing again, the ghoul moves again while I am being attacked by 5, 6, 7 more ghouls. I know, I can use guns, but these are level 1 ghouls! The melee combat sucks. its worse than any other Fallout game. The most annoying part is when you are being swarmed and then the frame rate freezes, then it catches back up and you are no longer facing the way that you were and now the ghouls are behind you. Its annoying. And another thing, since when did the rad moles or mole rats, whatever they are become such a problem. HOLY SH*T! For issues like I have been running into, the score is being lowered from a 7 to a 6.

    UPDATE!!! 22 Nov 18

Ok, so my mind hasn't changed much regarding this game, but I have something new to gripe about. When you go to an area and there happens to be another real player there and this player is very much above your current level, all the enemies in that area will be around that players level. Top of the World, most enemies are not above level 10, I am currently level 20. I left the area and came back a bit later and there was a level 48 person there, all the enemies were level 45. This kind of takes the fun out of the game. Bethesda should never ever try online ever again. they should stick to what they do best, make memorable single player games! I am still enjoying the game for the most part and for what it is i guess, but this game actually makes me miss Fallout 4, and I didn't like that game that much.

    UPDATE: 26 Dec 2018

The game sucks, score lowered to a 3. I am pretty sure I don't need to give an explanation as to why my score lowered. Go to youtube and watch people talk about the game. Everything they say is absolutely true! Terrible. I am scared about Rage 2 and the next Fallout. I am scared about TES6!

Not to mention that the game is shockingly lifeless, it feels like you're the only character on the map most of the time. And seriously, items have level requirements, c'mon! The character building is even worse than Fallout 4: some randomized cards, really? You can't build your character any way you want, you just add the cards you happen to get from the packs. There are no skills, stats mean nothing and levels don't matter at all. There's no challenge and the AI is hopeless. Only fun thing in this game is shooting. For a while. Once you get bored of that, you literally run out of things to do.

I have finally lost all my hope for Bethesda and I will most likely not buy a single Fallout title again. Fallout 76 and Fallout 4 have been so bad and this game made me realize how far Bethesda has driven the franchise from the original ones. These are not Fallout games, no matter how much you try to give them the same name. Fallout franchise is dead to me and I will never pre-order anything from Bethesda again. Good job, Todd Howard!

After reading a lot of **** reviews and a lot of "awesome" reviews I decided to post my own. First of all though, please do yourself a favor and ignore the 0-1 reviews and the 9-10 reviews as well. They're way too extreme.

Instead I have 3 different reviews depending on who you are and what your expectations are:

7 / 10 - this is something you would give if you are new to the franchise, decide to give the devs some slack for being their first MMO game, want to just have fun and enjoy the game. Sure the graphical engine is oldish, the world is devoid of humans but hey at least it's full of stuff to do and you won't get bored for the first 10-20 hours.

5 / 10 - this is the review for those of you who have heard of Bethesda and Fallout but are not die-hard fans. What you'll get is a mixed bag of single player / multi-player RPG features that don't quite work together. The old engine shows, there are pesky bugs all over the place. Not enough to make you leave but enough to take the joy out of it. All in all, a thoroughly average experience.

3 / 10 - this is the grade for Fallout fans through and through. This game just doesn't deliver. And we have come to expect so much from Bethesda. Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, were all awesome games, with great characters and immersive through rich story-telling and intrigue. This is all missing in a soul-less reincarnation of Fallout 4. From the concept. If we take into account the lazy implementation of a non-functional multi-player experience, city building, leveling up and character customization and the 10-year old graphical engine it becomes just a spit in every fan's face.

This is Bethesda we're talking about. They could have invested a lot of money in a new engine, in talented programmers and artists to build the most awesome MMORPG there is. But no, they decided to just make a quick buck.

Last but not least, shame on the publications that took Bethesda's money and write fluff pieces and 7/10+ reviews to sugarcoat what should be clear to anyone it is a full-size disaster.

The crafting and building aspects are great, and remain my most fond memories of Fallout 4; and I'm sure that they will be releasing patches at time goes on to build larger and more relevant homesteads.

The makers of this game, Bethasda game studies, has a tendency to lie and distort the truth. They treat their costumers like idiots.

I've poured thousands of hours into the games from Bethesda Game Studios. They used to make games that were impressive and pushed the boundaries of video games. Fallout 76 marks the end of that legacy. It's a soulless, joyless, haphazard experience that doesn't work on any level. The story is abysmal and the entire world of Fallout 76 is a joke. Flaming pitchforks, snow-ski swords, and paddleball paddles are the kinds of ridiculous items you'll find in this world. Bethesda undermines their own narrative constantly. They want their version of West Virginia to be haunting, but it's full of silly quests and stupid items.

The narrative, or story, of the game is poorly told through holotapes, terminals, and environmental story-telling. Not once have I met an NPC that is alive. The main plot is bad. Gone are the choices that defined the older Fallout games. You can't affect the world or the story in any real way. You're stuck with a static world that is, conversely, more cluttered and more empty than any previous Bethesda game. The audio log mechanic is poorly executed as well. It's easy to pick up 2 or 3 holotapes in the same area, and have to sort through your inventory to find them and play them. That's assuming there's no other players around making noise and drowning out the audio from that holotape.

The gameplay, likewise, is awful. The shooting mechanics of Fallout 4 are back in Fallout 76. Well, mostly. VATS has become a shell of its formal self. No more a slow-mo killcam, instead VATS has become a glorified auto-aim. It has also become almost useless. The enemies dart around, forcing the hit percentages to vary wildly. The inventory space is far too small, the stash size is laughable, and the mechanics around scrapping and crafting are so badly implemented that it's amazing Bethesda released the game in this state. You'll spend the entire game at or over the inventory limit. The entire game is built around exploration and Fallout 76 punishes you for ever bit of exploration you do. Multiple guns are necessary, as the ammo is scarce and unable to be broken down and re-crafted. The trouble is, those guns break often and are quickly replaced by higher-level guns. You'll always be out of space and holding out-dated weapons. Which brings us to another problem. The level-locked loot is a major problem in a game like this. You'll discover items you can't use for 20 levels. What are you supposed to do with said weapons? You could drag them back to camp and break them down, but they're essentially dead weight in your inventory. You could drag them to one of the rare vendors around and try to sell them, but they're so undervalued that you'd only get a few caps for them. The bottom line is that the inventory system, much like everything else, is poorly designed.

I can't believe in 2018 Bethesda released a game like Fallout 76. It's a miserable game with miserable mechanics. Red Dead Redemption 2 just released, and that game pushed the boundaries of gaming. God of War was released earlier this year and it was a magical experience. Horizon Zero Dawn and Breath of the Wild released last year, and made for substantially better worlds to explore. Bethesda has learned nothing since the Elder Scrolls: Oblivion days, and it's showing. In a year that had some truly superb games, Bethesda dumped out a game that belongs in 2010. It's pathetic.

TONS of content, great storylines and characters, much better graphics than its main rival, WoW and on the whole, runs very smoothly, even with loads of other players on screen. With this game, I wasn't expecting "Fallout 3 with friends", but at the very least something on par with ESO, vaguely hoping Bethesda would've learnt from Obsidian's release. With its constant bugs, atrocious graphics, awful AI, complete lack of immersion and characters, and enemies spawning out of nowhere, it appears not. It seems that Bethesda have gotten too big for their boots, and if they think they can crap on their customers by thinking that this is good enough for us, then they need to learn a valuable lesson: it doesn't matter how big you are, a business is NOTHING without its customers. We've parted with our cash and been stung this time- we won't next time.
I can only hope that they have just enough humility to realise that they have really messed up, and hopefully they will sort this mess out and give us the game we deserve, because, as of now, they have not only seriously tarnished the Fallout brand, but also their own brand.

This is a world that is completely empty and dead, and not in the atmospheric way. Bafflingly, the promise of: "There are no NPC's in this game," was seen as a positive in some peoples' eyes, because it just made a world with interesting ideas and basic art assets one of the least Fun and most Boring games ever made.

There's simply nothing to engage you with - battles are either annoying and overlong hassles, or exploits of terrible AI, what very few interesting story bits that exist are separated by hours of joyless exploration, grinding takes way, way too long (thanks to a patch), the audio is sparse to the point where it sounds like an Alpha build before the sound design was performed and implemented, and visually this game is surprisingly ugly. This isn't because of the Ruined elements - every Fallout game before this, as well as other games involving Ruins, from Metro 2033 to Final Fantasy X, all look miles better than this. This only compounds the survival hassle that is a nice enough idea, but only adds needless busywork to what should be fun. Oh, and the Missions just suddenly appear as if the Starship Enterprise beamed down a to-do list for you.

This does not bring me pleasure as I've greatly enjoyed most Bethesda games, but those were great because the worlds were grand and interesting, as well as nice looking from both technological and artistic standpoints. But those were also because world-building was a strong factor, so even if you came across a character that was poorly written or poorly acted, you would still keep your level of immersion; it's the same reason why immersion was maintained despite graphical glitches as well. But here, there is literally nothing to distract you from such problems, as the problems, when they come up, are the ONLY things that you are presented with. There is no living, breathing world to think about to allow you to overlook these issues, nor anything fun to do that you can concentrate on either. Monster animations suddenly going odd were fine in Oblivion, for example, because you were engaged in the combat, but the combat here feels more like Metal Gear Survive than the Post-Morrowind games that Bethesda has made over the past decade.

The reason I don't just give this a 1 is really because this game feels like a legitimately decent game that was simply released in pre-Alpha. This isn't like Metal Gear Survive; there's actual legitimate value here that's simply hidden by a lack of functional design. I can't deny, Oblivion or Skyrim might've been boring as well if you took all of the NPCs out and removed all of the graphical fixes made in the last 6 months of development. But the world is pretty well designed, like I said the story elements that exist aren't bad, and the gameplay works from a basic blueprint; it just feels like they had to abandon a project about 40% of the way through, and then someone released it to the public with working servers.

But because of these problems, I don't think that this will be fixed. Like ME:Andromeda, the problem here isn't a large set of bugs, but the content itself being fundamentally either flawed, mis-designed or simply non-existent. This game doesn't require fixes, but rather a complete overhaul of the content within. I can ignore the bugs, and even the problems with release like paying $20 for a Santa in-game outfit (although that's pretty disgraceful), but this game is essentially a buggy, ugly and boring experience that has virtually nothing to offer of its own beyond constrictive gameplay and world almost completely free of content.

The game is okay, not bad, but not great, however when you choose to make an okay game and then laud it as the next Fallout, you're going to have issues. The graphics are okay, the game play is okay sometimes and poor at others (lag is a major factor here, with some mobs hitting you once or twice after you've killed them and others not being hit at all). This game feels rushed and still in the alpha stage (not really even beta) and that's the other issue. THERE ARE NO NPCS OTHER THAN ROBOTS! And I put that in Caps because that's a serious thing to me. Fallout was about an immersive post apocalyptic world where the people you met were as important as the destinations. This was missed by Bethesda. I think what happened is you got a bunch of young designers that love PUBG and Fortnite and decided they were going to make a Fallout based on those games. Again major fail and the game deserves the ratings it's gotten. Expand

Now, I personally never played Fallout games for the combat because the combat in all of them is quite bad. I've always played Fallout for the dynamic world building and RPG elements. Fallout was the type of game that made me feel like my choices matter; this is seen especially in Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Fallout 4, a bit less so.

The mechanics of this game aren't very different from Fallout 4, a lot of innovations that came from that game are inherited into this game. Fallout 76 has a lot of recycled aspects and because of that it feels like that this game is rushed.

Now, take the world building, RPG elements, and NPCs out of a Fallout game. What do you get? A glorified battle royale with Fallout 4 combat mechanics, which wasn't even good to begin with.

Graphics are quite bad; low texture quality, ugly mesh models, and stiff animations make this game an eyesore to look at. Performance is awful as well; how can an engine, that's almost a decade old mind you, run so poorly on the current generation of consoles?

So yeah, Fallout 76 is a game with such wasted potential. If this game wasn't charged for full price, I would've been more lenient. However, they want me to believe that the game is as good as a game like Red Dead Redemption 2, and that game is superior in almost every single way in my opinion. I would rather recommend you to purchase that game rather than this, especially when Red Dead Online comes out.

Fallout 76 is not a game, it's a just a husk of a game and should have never been released. Bethesda calling Fallout 76 an experiment is a distortion of the truth: It's painfully obvious that they neither have invested adequate thought nor time and resources into this project – most likely with the sole purpose to reap as much profits with as little effort possible.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have gotten to level 40, so My opinion is backed by a lot of gameplay. The crafting is a good addition, i dare say an improvement over Fallout 4's. though that is pretty much the only part of the game I enjoyed.

I fortunately did not experience constant crashing and glitching like others did, but it allows me to further look into the gameplay, which does not hold up. combat is lacking. The gunplay is bad as always, though its worsened by the fact that the starting guns are slow, weak, and awkward. Normally I would not care about the "weak" part, but seeing as how I can walk around with a board and kill most things in just 2 hits, its an issue. Enemies can of course still block your sledgehammer with knives, though it does not seem to be as bad as it is in FO4. Weapon variety is sadly lacking. It has been 10 years since FO3, I am not trying to sound like an ass, but its time for some new stuff. Aside from the black powder weapons and a tesla rifle I found it was more of the same. Also, why can we still not use a shield, or dual wield, or use a pistol or SOMETHING with our free hand when using one handed weapons? there is no reason to not use the one handed stuff unless it just happens to deal a **** ton of damage or if you can be dark souls parry king with it.

the story is lacking. Everything coming from holotapes and computer records takes out all the engagement and interest. there are in fact NPCs in the game: but they are on dimensional robots that only exist to trade or give you fetch quests. The scorched are basically mindless zombies, but unlike those of say the walking dead, they pose little to no threat, both due to simply being weak and due to poor AI programming. (had some simply stand there and let me kill them) the only interesting enemy among the scorched are the scorch beasts. this gets to my last point

lack of enemy variety. I was looking forward to seeing no super mutants as they do not come around until FO1, but lo and behold, we see em prowling the wastes, because " vault-tec poisoned the water" but thats ok, we should not see deathclaws very much either because at this point they are rare? nope, one can still find quite a few deathclaws around. It sums up the issue of the game itself: the game recycles so many assets and so much content from the previous games: its basically Fallout 4, but with no story, interesting characters, or anything meaningful in the world. We do have a few new enemies like the grafton monster and the windego, but they are so rare that i can hardly bring myself to count them, and because of the lack of story driven NPCs, we cannot have any new factions to spice things up. To sum it up, the game is empty and boring. And with the recent controversies surrounding the game my trust in Bethesda is decreasing. If you want to play a good Fallout game just pick up New Vegas or Fallout 3. Sure the graphics are literal **** but they have an interesting story, and memorable character, and new vegas in particular has great roleplay. &6 has none of these things. Maybe it will improve with updates, but as of now it is a failure.

It's about time we hold Bethesda accountable. They've taken a really, really bad turn in their development. It scares me and at this point, I think they'd be better off selling their assets off and cashing out.

New Vegas is the best Fallout and Bethesda didn't even develop that game. Fallout 4 is a joke with a dialogue system that makes Mass Effect Andromeda more interesting to play.

New Vegas is the best Fallout and Bethesda didn't even develop that game. Fallout 4 is a joke with a dialogue system that makes Mass Effect Andromeda more interesting to play. That being said let's get into Fallout 76.

Oh boy, Fallout 76... 80% fallout 4 in every aspect only further dumbed down, fewer interesting weapons and even less story. I am beyond words for the lackluster development of this game. Unlike most people complaining about the game, My qualms have nothing to do with Online only, nothing to do with it not being New Vegas pt2. My qualms with this game are unbias factual critiques,

No story whatsoever. Yes there are radio signals, holotapes and other trash story bits dropped across the wasteland but nothing deliverable. Nothing worth merit or conviction. The kinds of story pieces only NPC's WITH dialogue and choices can give you. There is nothing here, no purpose to do anything in this game.

Loot - Building. In Survival games loot and building make sense. It works in those games because let's say you need wood, you go get wood. You need whatever material you go get that material with the tool you crafted. Here in Fallout you literally just randomly walk all over the wastland picking up JUNK and you have no idea how much of it you need, what exactly you need or where to get it ETC ETC

Graphics/Performance - OMG This game looks like it came out of 2011 and honestly that's just not acceptable. AT ALL. Let's take Oblivion for example. That game literally pioneered how good graphics could be for the time period. Now look at Fallout, Looks like absolute trash. From a Triple AAA studio who ha smillions upon millions to invest in development, that's just sad and unacceptable.

Vats/Gunplay/PVP/Gameplay. Oh Geez, where to start. Firstly VATS could have worked fine in real time if it wasn;t buggy and if it had a better auto targeting system. It also absolutely should not cost AP to initiate VATS. Using AP just to start VATS is utterly ridiculous, After it starts only shooting your weapon should use up AP. Gunplay is atrocious, I'd honestly take Call of Duty II Gunplay over this and that game is over 10 years old. It boiggles my mind that ID just didn't develop the gunplay. With all of the buginess in VATS, Gunplay and abysmal hit detection PVP is impossible to take seriously. Additionally trying to hit anything moving or jumping at you is a hassle. Combine that with the Worst A.I I've ever seen in a Triple A game and you've got a disaster.

On top of the total lack of passion and care that went into this game is all the technical issues that Bethesda would normally rely on their fans to fix. In this case, though, it all falls on them and it isn't something they, or their more die-hard fans, are used to. We'll see if they can get it together but I wouldn't count on it.

Don't give me that lie that lack of characters means immersion, because it doesn't, it means your just more lonely than ever. Most mechanics like hunger and thirst restrict you too much from actually exploring the world, which is the main point of this game, and other than a lack of things Fallout 76 has dozens of bugs, more than I could count. And don't say "oh wait for an update" because that means we're giving these companies more of a chance to abuse us rather than giving us games that are actually finished. And now more than ever are we being given shlock (except Red Dead Redemption 2) than ever before. I want games to be innovative, and refreshing, not stale, and poorly outdated. And speaking of outdated, Skyrim 2 will be having the same engine as Fallout 76, which honestly makes me cry to think about, poor lighting, an engine being tied to framerate, and probably even fewer RPG elements. Overall, don't buy this. Expand

The game itself surprisingly doesn't have many bugs, at least not many that I noticed, the only issues I've found is that it runs absolutely abmyssal, being around 25fps usually but frequently dipping below 10fps at certain encounters. This is on a PS4 Pro, my friend with a base PS4 encountered even more frame-rate problems.

Outside that, it never crashed and I never had any issues with items dissapearing or monsters "t-posing", it seems they fixed that from the BETA.

The biggest issue lies in the fact that Fallout 76 is just so bloody boring. Boring and Empty are the two best words to describe this game, and it pains me to do it because I am such a huge fan of the Fallout series and went into 76 with cautious optimism, hoping that it might be okay.

    The Good:

    - The world is really pretty, Appalachia is an excellent setting and the map is very big, so its obvious Bethesda put some effort into creating a diverse enviornment

    - Some of the elements of the game are well done, for example I like the inclusion of corpses that would have been mummified in the initial nuclear blasts.

    - The base building element is done alright, but its essentially just a portable version of the base building you had in Fallout 4.

    The Bad:

    - The atrocious frame rates! This game looks identical to Fallout 4 which came out more then 3 years ago, why on earth does it run worse then the latest bleeding edge titles?? Its not even in 4k! I've never played a console game that has performed quite this terribly, and given Bethesda's giant budget I am absolutley floored at the performance!

    - The fact there is utterly nothing to do, Bethesda decided to remove all human NPC's which means the world is filled with corpses and notes and holotapes, rendering each quest a fetch quest with no actual people to spur you on, you are just following breadcrumbs left behind. Its utterly lifeless and soulless, there is no sense of life anywhere, which for a Post Apocalyptic game should make sense but rather then increase the atmopshere it just makes things more dull.

    - On top of the previous point, because the game has you listening to Holo-tapes, playing with a friend actually ends up being a bit of a hinderence, because you can't actually listen to the Holo-tapes and pay attention with someone activley talking in your ear.

    - The removal of a traditional V.A.T.S system and the fact the enemies still run around like crazed maniacs because they think you can stop time with V.A.T.S to kill them makes all encounters with enemies far more challenging then they should be.

    - Weird lore breaking additions like Super Mutants and the B.O.S which shouldn't have existed at this part of the game

    - Clunky menu system that worked fine in a singleplayer game with a PAUSE option, but given this is always online, if you are over encumbured or need to switch weapons while being pursued by fast, agressive super mutants, good luck bucko, cause you can't easily do anything in the god awful menu, and pulling it up means you just die faster.

    - Outrageously expensive microtransactions, one outfit costs around 8-10 real life dollars, for a cosmetic item it seems a little steep, but honestly the microtransactions are the least of this games problems.

Overall the game feels like so much wasted potential, its identical to Fallout 4 in every single way except it has little to no proper quests, everything feels like a fetch mission, there is no life anywhere and the co-op/online aspect is completley unnecessary and shoe horned into the game for no reason whatsoever. The map is cool and some of the elements are neat, but this game would have been fine as a $20 add on DLC for Fallout 4 3 years ago, not a full priced standalone game when they've had 3 years to develop it.

It seems like Bethesda spent 3 years crafting a great, big open map and trying to shoe horn some garbage online element into it which goes against what traditional Fallout is about, and completley forgot to actually populate it with quests or anything actually FUN to do.

As it stands avoid this game, perhaps they will patch it in a year or so and then maybe buy it for $10-20 on sale to experience it for yourself.

I gave this game a score of 2/10 only because of the interesting environment and a few cool additions, as well as the hope the game will improve in time.

I will be returning this game.

    Dissapointing Bethesda, Dissapointing.

i am about a full day in playing this game. 22h on record now. i played by myself for 8 hours. then actually went out to look for a gang to team up with. no one would join me. it seams very very hard out of the maybe 30 people i have run across, that would like to be friends.

My first 8 hours of playing this game... it was dead it seamed. it was as if i was playing Fallout 4 after the main mission. I was able to get a power armor frame. and a massive plethora of pipe pistols. that i can only seam to sell for 1-2 bottle caps or deconstruct into one or 2 screws. depending on item condition. and after about 8 of those hours, compiling materials and a few quests. i still couldnt build a full on house (4 walls and a roof). So after i gave up on the building aspect of the game. i then got board of doing the same kind of quests over and over again. ether fetch, baby sit, kill something, or read an entire essay worth of hidden quest paths. I have been around the block a few times with these holotape and such story systems. Fallout 1 and especially Fallout 2 had them already. It wasnt new.

My next few hours. from hour 8 to about 12 i found one of my friends in game. And we didnt go on some massive adventure our the like. i was helping him get his quests done and the like he was helping with some of mine. We still couldnt really build much. And he got tired of just doing the same kind of quests as well.
From about hour 12 to 13 we just talked and tried to figure out the leveling system, some crafting, and where to go and do next. so from hour 13 to about 16 we went to the edge of the maps. We tried to find the largest landmarks. and we ended up getting frustrated as we kept running out of ammo, and getting chased down by a gang of 4 other players wanting to PvP.
My friend left on hour 16 and i went back to where i like to set up my shop. trying to work with the crafting system in some way. seeing what i could or couldnt do.
Then followed by me Alt-Tabing out of the game to see how to start looking for nuclear launch codes... to no real prevail.

My Review of this game is a 2/10. its boring. its empty. theres nothing at those cool looking locations. the story didnt hook me or my friend. the quests are generic MMO quests. its still buggy. and as i have seen from previous BGS games, they will remain buggy to the end of their life.
The Engine is too old for this stuff they expect it to do.
The players ruined my experience. but it was alright when i was playing with just my friend. the no push-to-talk system is cancerous.
There is no amusement to about 80% of these locations.
There is no random special encounters with lets say as happens in Fallout 3 or new vegas.
Its arsenal is lack luster. it will be an E.A. like system where i have to play some 100+h before i get to end game equipment. that i might not even have the level to use. I already got power armor frame and a minigun though. Ammo is harder to come across.
The survival aspect of this game is a joke. you dont get hungry or thirst too often at all. Softcore survival just means that you are to not have too harsh of a penalty on death... not have it become a massive chore when you actually need to drink or eat.
The game is alright for exploring and some time with friends. But thats all that is here. wide as an Ocean, deep as a puddle. ill give it points for the looks and the environment. but everything else? No.

Out of this entire experience, i came out feeling ripped off. I payed $65 pre-order... i get home to open my PHYSICAL CD case. to find that where the CD is, its a cardboard disk... THERE IS NO PHYSICAL COPY OF FALLOUT 76. and it was STILL a FULL PRICED game. Not only that but the pre-order from Gamesstop; Their special pre-order item? was a Fallout Sticker to put in your car window.

I have no idea what Bethesda is doing. idk if this is Todd's idea. but if this is a joke. it went right over all of our heads.

As of today. I know this wasnt your first Online game, Bethesda. i am no longer a Bethesda fan. Goodbye Bethesda.

What little story there is is just Bethesda's trademark 'environmental storytelling' where long dead skeletons conveniently remember to record their login details in audio logs right as they expire.

There are no memorable npcs (or forgettable ones for that matter, there are no npcs at all), no actually important quests where you decide the fate of the wasteland or anything like that. It's all been sacrificed on the altar of multiplayer - and it cant even do multiplayer well. The servers are awful even after a couple of weeks of stress testing with the beta, PVP is completely irrelevant, and there are no private servers (something a game like this desperately needs) so you're stuck playing with whatever idiotic 12 year olds the game decides to connect you with.

Over eight years later people still fondly remember Fallout New Vegas. Eight years from now? I doubt people will have much to say about Fallout 76, assuming it is even still playable considering the servers might have been taken down by then.

So utterly disappointing and flawed in every possible way… The first few hours, most of it can be ignored, and occasionally the flaws can be forgotten, but only briefly before they come storming back to the forefront. An awful, boring, empty, pointless experience. There is, however, a glimmer of hope. It's worth mentioning that there has already been a Bethesda title that was equally as unimpressive: The Elder Scrolls Online - but looking at it now, it has transformed into one of the best MMOs out there. There's always the hope the Fallout 76 develops the same way and becomes something special, but for now, that seems impossible. It's a world away from that.

Fallout 76 isn't your typical fallout experience. You don't have NPCs or dialogue, but instead get real players that should fill this void - that ultimately fails to do so. It does some things right, but as of now I cannot recommend getting this game as long as it stays a broken and boring mess that it is right now.

Fallout 76 is the series’ Freshman introduction into the world of online, multiplayer games. As a result, we are experiencing all of the awkwardness and clumsiness associated with that season of life. It is imperfect and a bit uncomfortable, but I see opportunity for Fallout 76 to be more than it presently it - to be a truly great, rich Fallout experience.
