They say it's dumbed down and stats no longer affect convrrsation. This is wrong. People on multiple playthroughs are noticing differences in this regard. It has those stat/skill checks, it just usually doesnt give you a big text block saying "pick dis option using high int lol" So which game is dumbed down again? They say your conversation choices dont matter, but thrre are countless examples of when they do and you could even lock yoyrself out of things but being too mean. I even skipped a whole string of quests because of my high intelligence. Why go find new parts to a ship when you are smart enough to repair the old ones.

As for factions, you have four large ones that are all important to the story. You get tons of endings based on how your various truces play out, or you can take out three and have one reign supreme. Sorry but half the factions in NV had little impact on anything. Id hardly qualify random casinos as a faction..Oh, you could sell chems with the great khans? I have an entire farm I created with my own brahim where I make my own jet and make a fortune doing so. I even got a guy willing to give me nearly double what shops give. I shot up a drug deal, killed the witnesses, tossed their bodies in a river, stole the chems, broke into the place where they were made, looted it all, shot the place up, and had mister sandman visit anyone who accused me. I threw on a BoS suit, they thought I was one of them even though I was with their enemy, and infiltrated them.

The roleplaying is still here, you just gave a backstory and more defined motuves, you know, like every other rpg. Is the Witcher not an rpg because you gave to play as Geralt? Get real. My character is a smooth talking high intelligence woman, who is on the outside appears to ve doing goos, but in reality is a sarcastic asshile violent drug lord rebuilding the Commonwealth on blood and jet.

Let's talk about why I love this game. This is easily the best looking Fallout. While it doesn't compete with The Witcher in that regard, this game is certainly more fun to play. They vastly improved the gunplay, and as simeone who plays tons of shooters, it gets a thumbs up. The world is huge and there is so much to do. The most fun I gave is just wandering about finding new places. Two months later and people are still finding new things. I love the Settlement building as well.

I highly recommend this game. Ignore the ignorant haters who didnt play this and metabombed it took seconds after its release. Its a shame a few ignorant "professional reviewers" listened to that loud minority of gamers and repeated the same ignorance without checking the facts. I remember a certain "angry" reviewer who just jumped on the hate train without checking actual facts or giving a game like this enough time. Funny, but there is nothing angry about this guys reviews, he just **** a ton. I guess rather than making decent reviews some people just want to appeal to their troll fanboys.

There's a good reason why mostly everyone who is anyone plays this game religiously. It's that much fun.

This game does not deserve the negative reviews it's been getting. The game excels at allowing you to explore and collect and settlement creation is usually awesome.

    But here are my gripes:

    - TERRIBLE voice acting and facial animations. It's so bad that it takes you right out of the game.

    - Menus and UI need a lot more polish, as comparing weapons and armor and crafting mods is extremely cumbersome.

    - Load screens for entering buildings have been done away with for years in other games. Why is it so prevalent, even for tiny spaces in some cases?

    - settlements are great but it's a bummer that existing structures can't be modified or improved within them. The mechanics and opaque UI detract significantly from my experience.

    - so many mechanics, so few explanations. I've never had to google how to do things in a game as much as I have this one (running wires, comparing stats, settlers, etc.)

I'd still recommend the game though, issues notwithstanding.

I'm saving everyone or searching for a duck tape. Which brings me to game mechanics. You can create new mod on your favourite gun but you cannot dissasemble other guns to get the right parts. House creation for settlers is pain - skipping this. Interesting characters, puzzles, epic battles(just deathclows) even funny dialogues are missing... seriously that just robots are funny. So why 7 points?? Dog is great. wearing a power armor is like to be an iron man. The dog. W.A.T.S targeting system is better. Dogmeat. Cooking and preparation of drugs /like it/. Fluffy the mans best friend running around fetching guns... Conclusion: lets hope for a good update that will repair the manifold game flaws. Expand

The world can be a fun place to explore but the characters and the quests start to feel very boring after a while and the settlement building is not fun at all. The main story is pretty boring as well and the dialogue options are a joke.

What I think could have been done better is what everyone else has already mentioned: the main story. There is nothing ground breaking about it, nor is it delivered in such a way that you want to relate to or even help the main character. But that's not even one of the main draws of this game. The best part of this game is the main reason everyone should have bought it for. The exploration. That's why Bethesda markets their product as an open world rpg. If it was marketed as a deep story driven emotional experience then yes, everyone should be mad. But don't complain that it doesn't have the story quality of say Chrono Trigger, or Metal Gear.

As for the people saying it's just an updated version of fallout 3. What were you expecting? Fallout is Fallout is Fallout. You knew what you were paying for when you did.

How to assign people to work and I did not understand and do not believe that it is in principle possible to do.

    2. The world is small. From this, too, it was hot. On the one hand, I already Jam empty endless worlds in games, but then the world and empty a little, just like your daddy dickhead. No animals, random encounters few, and those that have scenes represent a type of "Raiders vs. Ghouls" and "Brotherhood of Steel against the mutants." Dialogues are no such scenes there. Lulzim too. So ****ing "city", consisting of boxes with boarded windows and doors.
    3. Kraft cool weapons. Well, they probably will, after finished modes. Now even to cheat the sight on the gun should be nihuevo pumped into the right perks and years to collect garbage on the heath. One upgrade every four hours - not the fans, as for me.

4.Ot dialog wheels mass effect was hot, too. Not as much as some here, but decent. Mainly because of the words in the "wheel" does not conclude what will eventually figure. "Select" answer, and what a character - the game rubs. While this may seem simple, because all lines of dialogue SG - extremely retardovye. NIPAROLIPLEIT.

5.Roamit of heath fun. Disadvantages not particularly noticeable when you go Explora. The strongest part of the game, brought the soul. Here are just a taste of **** is because you know that instead of NEXT - you have given gene gameplay from treshki. Few innovations.

    6. Very strongly bakes what is Skyrim with guns. The boys showed off their ultradvizhkom and ultratehnologiyami, and eventually rolled eychdi reissue dovakinopriklyucheny. Lighting finished texture resolution and little - a little over done and everything. NO MORE YOU Yoba TECHNOLOGIES, Eat **** With PASTGENA.

In summary - it is an all Oblivion Over egeyn. I feel the same emotions. On the one hand - we want poautirovat lamp ones and on the other - a gazebo too much crap from the technical side and constantly get the feeling that the game in the Polish clone Gothic. Govnetsa sweetness on the lips.

I won't lie, I am a huge fan of Fallout 3 and since the announcement I've had the count-down clock on my mobile, and I've tried to realistically manage my own expectations as I did fear that they'd ruin a great franchise. So, as you can see I'm giving it a 10 and this is for numerous reasons.

If you are a hardcore Fallout 1 and 2 or Tactics fan, and FO3 was a huge disappointment for you, this is not the game for you.
The game feels like a natural progression from FO3, with most of the structure unchanged and changes that have been made have been done so to make the game more fluent, perhaps in this it's lost a little of it's tactical strategy. For instance, v.a.t.s is still used in the game, but the game no longer freezers still. This means in effect you no longer get to pause the game when in combat and assess each and every enemy and think of your way in or way out of the current scenario. Instead, the enemies continue to pursue or aim/fire at you but in slow-mo, this adds a whole heap of pressure onto your decision making and it will probably see you hip-firing like mad once your AP points are out - but is this a flaw in the game? No, not at all in my opinion. Fallout 4 is hard. Most encounters before reaching level 25 feel like stacked odds against you, and dying becomes a regular event (top tip - quicksave, a lot!)

I read a review (Guardian I think) that mentioned that FO4 feels more like Fallout 3.75 - and I get this. The world itself, although stunning and vibrant, feels like FO3. If you've not seen the comparison screenshots of say Dogmeat from PS3 to PS4, you can see the graphics have been updated 'just enough' to get away with being new gen. While the map is bigger than that in FO3, it is remarkably more vertical (!) and you will find many buildings taller than ten-penny tower, and you will find more caves deeper than FO3 vaults.

As an RPG, the levelling is a lot more straight forward and directly mixes perks with SPECIAL stats. Choosing wisely early on and pre-planning your character goes a long way. To be a jack-of-all-trades doesn't work as your damage will be to low against harder enemies. This means a lot of thought is worth putting in to your development from level 5 onwards!

    It's all about that Base:

Hell yeah. The base building option in FO4 is a great addition. It means you can build an entire town from scratch, if you've the resources. Unlike FO3, everything you pick up can become useful. To be able to scrap anything into its basic form ie wood, steel, ceramics etc; means that scavenging is far more rewarding and becomes a task to perform ritually if you are focused on developing your new town (!). 45hours in, I can honestly say at least 8 hours play was building and scavenging. I really enjoyed this, as occasionally frustrating as it is when fences etc dont snap into place, you can pick it up and remove it so easily you can end up, as I have, with a base looking as good as anything already standing in the world. It's also really fun defending the bases once the raiders come charging in. Remember though, this is totally optional and you don't have to make bases.

I do feel reading reviews on here though (ridiculous to score this game a 3 or below!) and most of the haters seem to have lost what RPG means. As a gamer who's played decades of RPGs, I find this style a joy to play as it has the right mix of action, adventure and exploration that sucks me deeply into the world Bethesda have created. I think people like the ability to freeze the game and play it almost turn-based still like a strategy game, perhaps players that don't like the frantic moments. But evading death has sometimes been the best moments in the game for me, and yes, sometimes I've taken advantage of flawed AI, but I did so in F3 also and I think it's part of using the environment to favour you.

Glitches. Glitches everywhere. One thing I did notice from my first few hours is seeing a graphical glitch is going to be part of the experience, end of. Most of the glitches I've noticed are within chats with NCPs, the most common of which is when you start talking a little to close to someone they lean in and their face disappears. No glitch in 45hrs though as prevented me completing a quest or made an enemy impossible to kill. So, I've overlooked them and just hope they patch them up for the future.

Overall, FO4 offers much the same as FO3. Don't buy if you expect a whole new game, it really isn't - but in my opinion, FO3 is one of the greatest games ever made. Had they took the model and changed it radically, people would complain and hardcore fans would cryout. Instead they built on what they do best, and have offered a potential unlimited experience in FO4. With DLC and future modding being available (and free) for PS4, this game I maybe still playing in 1000hrs+ time.

I don't say it often, but I love this game & perhaps it's nostalgia, but I missed Fallout!

Fallout 4 falls (tee-hee) in line perfectly with Fallout 3 and New Vegas. It offers a deep, deep world filled with interesting characters to meet and buildings to explore.

The people comparing Fallout 4 to Witcher 3 know exactly zero about game design or what it takes to make a world this in-depth. NO ONE makes RPG's like Bethesda, for better or worse. There are literally thousands of items littered throughout the world that you can pick up and interact with. And nearly every single one of those items matter since you can craft weapons, bases, and armor. Bethesda's engine maybe old and broken, but it's kind of incredible that it can keep track of all the intricate things your character can do. Want to collect all the lunchbox's and dead bodies strewn about the waste and store them in your house? You can! Why? Heck if I know! It's just something that's weirdly possible in Fallout/Elder Scroll games.

It's impossible to compare Fallout 4 to other open world RPG's since Fallout (and by extension all of Bethesda's RPG's) is all about exploration. It's about letting you interact with the smallest of objects and experiencing dozens of interesting random encounters. So of course games like the Witcher 3 (which is laser focused) is going to look and run better.

HOWEVER! All that said, I still find it inexcusable to release a game this buggy. Yes, yes I know that we should be used to Bethesda's games being this bad on release, but frankly that's a load of crap. They claim this game was in development for over 4 years...how the hell is it possible to STILL release a game this broken after so many years?!

Finally, I want to address the people that say New Vegas was better and that they wished Obsidian developed this instead. Obsidian is one of my favorite game developers bar-none. They are experts at taking existing properties and just making them BETTER! But you got to take off the rose tinted glasses my friends. Obsidian has always released broken games. Am I the only person here that remembers the release of KotoR II and New Vegas? NV was damn near unplayable on release. It crashed constantly and required multiple patches. And the combat in NV was so much worse. What we're all remembering about New Vegas is the story and the characters. These are the things Obsidian excel at. To say Obsidian could have made a better Fallout 4 is asinine.

After about 50 hours played, and Jeebus knows how many more to go, I think it's safe to say this is my favorite Fallout game. I LOVE the combat, weapon modding, and companions you meet (companions are actually useful for the first time). Still...I wouldn't blame you if you waited a few months for patches to iron out the bugs.

If you've only played for 5-10 hours, you also have no business leaving a review, good, bad, or otherwise. Games like this take time to develop. The story is actually quite good. Taking yourself on side missions help develop the story as a whole (even though they aren't "story related", per se). The factions take time to warm up to you, which actually makes sense because usually groups in the real world don't just bring people in and make the president. Choices you make OVER TIME impact how the game unfolds.

The crafting is a fun side project, the glitches are almost non-existent, especially in 1.03 (though they were never so bad as many people like to portray). I'm chomping at the bit to get to my next game - The Witcher 3 - but I can't put FO4 down. It's incredibly fun, wonderfully large, and extraordinarily varied in it's game play from person to person.

The story is pretty solid throughout but to be honest, I felt at a loss after completing the main campaign. Sure, you have a plethora of side missions to do...but it just seemed like they were either too repetitive or bland. Although I did enjoy the follower missions, everything else felt sort of "ehh" for me all in all. I do believe this game was a little over hyped BUT, this game is great for anyone who loves a great RPG or what's to dive into the Fallout series. Expand

Okay, I'm giving this game a 9/10 because this game is for action fans not RPG Fans. The game is great and all if you don't see it as an RPG Game, because it's an Action with RPG elements, if you want a solid RPG game than sadly this is not it. Go pick-up Fallout 1-3 or New Vegas if you want a real RPG. Overall this is a really good game, it wasn't executed pretty well but it is a good game.

Another problem is that Bethesda were terribly lazy with upgrading the HUD and Pip-boy systems, because they are nearly identical to the Fallout 3 versions. Hopefully Bethesda don't f@# up Doom 4. Only buy this game if you are a hardcore Fallout or Bethesda fan, but if your'e not, there are better RPGs out there, like The Witcher 3, or Skyrim, or MGSV. Expand

I've already posted a few instagram photos of the bugs in this game be it traders stuck on roofs or my companion swimming while in a second story building. I think I've been fortunate in not experiencing the ground busting glitches some have experienced.

I've already posted a few instagram photos of the bugs in this game be it traders stuck on roofs or my companion swimming while in a second story building. I think I've been fortunate in not experiencing the ground busting glitches some have experienced.

I think its safe to call this game middle of the road in terms of what I expected in Fallout 4. I have praise for the crafting system which can be very enjoyable at times or a complete pain in the butt. Almost everything is used for crafting which can be overwhelming at times. Trying to provide a supply of chemicals for bombs and food for cooking and material for your weapons can have your backpack filled in one zone if you take absolutely everything. Still it can be fun to fully mod the 10mm pistol or for me the .44 mag and go dirty Harry on everything.

The settlement building and maintenance I found provided nothing for me. In my current playthrough I've only decided to build up Sanctuary and add random customization when bored. The others I care little about and defend them when the odd attack occurs or just leave them since I've found no consequences for my actions.

Graphically I have to agree with many that it is no leap from Fallout 3 or Elder Scrolls to Fallout 4. Feels slightly more improved but character animation can be sluggish or just silly (insert Youtube vids on the matter) The most stunning visuals I found was the Glowing Sea which actually gave me the sense of post apocalyptic disaster. Long distant views the frame rate can drop and look depleted which takes away from the sense of exploration. On the other hand the mini nuke still looks very nice when going off.

The voice acting I can find no fault with as with Fallout and Elder Scrolls it can be a pillar of the game when driving the story along. The characters so far have been well done some are what you expect in cliche and heck some are just a waste of script but when trying to populate Boston I expect things to get muddy.

I think the story has been pretty good so far. I'm not going to give it an Oscar with any "I want my son back!" kind of plot but heck still not bad even if it tries to come off as Blade Runner (for me anyways). Consequences, tough choices I've yet to see anything that would test that. I can't start the game then start rampaging a village at least I don't think so (miss you Las Vegas). I'm not saying that is a deal breaker but the sense of hopelessness, the fight against "evil" I'm just not enticed like I expected. Some missions are repetitive, "get this for me" "great" "get another thing for me" or "Go kill all these bad guys" reminds me of WOW grinding

I'm a sucker for exploring and I think just like Fallout 3 it does this very well. From the mayors bunker, food depots, rail yards, radar towers etc it can be a lot to dig through while picking up all the goodies inside. Combat can be sloppy, I haven't noticed any gun lag but I almost never use VATS and yet I recall it being a life saver in Fallout 3. Unless I'm trying to pick off a target with a bolt action that's closing in on me I never touch it.

I give it a 7/10 because I like the voice acting I like most of the customization it has allowed me and though I dare to call this a next-gen game I think it adds some interesting features to the Fallout series but does not break the mold from what I expected.

15 hours in, and I call it a mixed blessing. Here's my list of pros and cons.

    The good
-Its big. It feels less big than Skyrim IMO, but there is a lot of content I've not seen yet, and there seems to be a lot of dimension to everything (e.g. can go in many buildings, if I can't, I can still get on top of them somehow)
-Crafting. Its pretty sweet to construct a town. About 1/3 of my time has been spent doing this. Maybe too easy though...also it needs a re-balance badly. Why does breaking down a pistol give me 6 steel, and scrapping a car only gives me 10? Still fun though.
-Dialogue. Bear with me...I don't love it, but its better than I thought it would be based on early reviews. Also, the voiced protagonist doesn't annoy me nearly as much as I thought...in fact, the "Silver Shroud" quest was pretty amazing/hilarious.
-Graphics. Again, not great, but better than I thought. I'm not disappointed, but I'm not blown away either.
-A.I. While the enemies aren't necessarily smarter, they at least are difficult to hit (e.g. deathclaw strafes towards you back and forth, but isn't actively dodging you). Some enemies use cover pretty well too. Heh...some don't.

    The bad
-Dialogue. Better than I thought does not equal great. In fact, I HATE the dialogue wheel. About 75% of the time its fine, but that other 25% is just stupid. I need a mod that writes out everything. If I want a "sarcastic" comment, I've got a 50/50 chance my character says something funny vs. mean. If its funny, my companion enjoys it, If its mean, they think I'm a jerk. Most folks are also complaining about "same outcome no matter what," but that is often the case for most interactions anyways. However...I have other problems with the dialogue. See below.
-Options/checks. There are so few, and it sucks. Sometimes I get a speech check, but not often. I miss having 2 or 3 options for dialogue that are strictly based on intelligence, charisma, or a random skill for say "science" or "barter." 4 options (really 2-3) is not enough, and with hardly any "checks," its all too simplified. Also, I dreadfully miss the karma system.
-Skills. What the ****, man? You just did away with them? You just simplified like, 15-20% of the game?! Fewer skill checks, fewer requirements for perks, fewer fun options for dialogue? Christ I hope someone comes up with a mod to bring them back. It would be a tremendous undertaking, but a guy can dream, right?
-Leveling. Theoretically I can play forever, and have all perks and 10/10 for every SPECIAL category. Jesus, at LEAST have perks that are mutually exclusive, or a maximum number of perks put into "SPECIAL" building, or something. What they offered up to us is dumb, one dimensional, and brings me to my last grouping.

    Unknown
-Replayability. Huge unknown at this point. I've only scratched the main storyline, so I don't know if my choices really matter. The SPECIAL/perk system does not look good though...it basically means that while I can make different character builds early on, my outcomes are largely the same after 20-25 levels. That REALLY sucks. I hope my choices really do matter though...

Closing statement: Got this game for full price (DANGIT STEAM!! 12 bucks off a week after?!). If/when a fallout 5 comes around, I won't pay full price for it, nor will I buy it within 6 months of it coming out. Hear that Bethesda? Speaking with my dollar here. While your game is fun, and I'm enjoying it, it takes major steps backward for every step forward, and you gotta fix that before I'll buy another Fallout at full price. You made a lot of fans happy by letting us build settlements and such, and the voiced protagonist has potential...but you royally -effed up your dialogue/skill/dimensionality of the game.

Okay I understand complaints about the story line but in Fallout 3 the main story line wasn't the greatest either. Okay you are looking for your dad and in this game you are looking for your son. I do not see a huge difference in the quality of the main story line so I do not understand those complaints fully. I love how they made the gunplay better and I do still like VATS is very helpful. It just depends on your play style. The graphics I feel are great I think some people think The Witcher 3 looks better because of the setting the world takes place in. The Witcher 3 from what I have played thus far is a great game it just didn't suck me into the game like Fallout 4 did. I love Diamond City Radio and the music and the setting of the game. The new settlements and other gameplay mechanics are good in my opinion. I would say job well done Bethesda! Expand

Feral Ghoul ugly in many ways, but beneath its iffy exterior beats the heart of one helluva great RPG. Get past the graphics deficiency, and the sheer thrill of Fallout 4’s combat, crafting options, and exploring will hold your attention for months. [January 2015, p64]

Fallout 4 leans to the Shooting side of things. It strips down the gameplay from the actual RPG elements and offers a meta-nuclaer shooting gallery which of course keep its charm and gameplay wealth but also feels a little too friendly for the new comers. The Base builder mode is unnecessary, boring and irritating. Unfortunately, overall, there are no steps forward for this Nuclear Holocaust Behemoth of the video games industry. Only steps sideways.
