This is a really great game, although I must say it’s starting to feel a bit of a “more of the same” (I mean compared to F3 and FNV, not to F1 and F2), which is both good and bad at the same time.

Bad things, I don’t think there is anything particularly bad about this game other than the usual in Bethesda. This is, first, quite a few bugs in the game, mostly minor bugs but some relatively mayor ;e.g. a companion getting lost and not having a clue of where he/she is, they usually end up showing up again at some point but still annoying. Second, and not less important, a.i. is awful both for enemies and companions. It is especially frustrating with companions, mainly because they get stuck in stuff constantly so you find yourself looking over your shoulder quite often just to make sure they’re actually still there. Other stuff; some people say the game is too easy or too hard, well… I don’t think they’re right about this. In my opinion, this is one of the few games out there where you can actually choose a level of difficulty that suits you, from easy which is really easy to survival (which is very challenging, no fast travel, having to eat and drink etc.). Finally, although not a massive deal, I feel the loss of the karma system has damaged the game a bit; I quite liked having a reputation in the game based on the karma thing. It is true that if you go guns blazing in a settlement they’ll be hostile and that is it, so there is still some consequences to bad actions but not nearly as significant as in F3 or other games in general. A good example of why a miss the karma system is companions (yes, again); there’s quite a few companions for you to choose; some are more good than bad and vice versa (ethically speaking). The thing is, I can go and choose a “good karma” companion and do good stuff (help people, avoid violence etc.) so he/she likes me and get all the dialogues and stuff, right after I finish with that companion I can go and choose a “bad karma” one a start doing bad stuff (steal, easy trigger guy etc.) and it is equally easy to get all his lines of dialogue etc. since he does not have any kind of prejudice towards me because I have no reputation (i.e. karma system) so the A.I basically does not see you as having a personality unless it is something serious enough for it to get hostile (as in attacking them or stuff). So basically, you can switch between being a saint and being a damn bastard and it’s fine, as long as you don’t cross a few lines, being this mainly killing or stealing too much. This, in my opinion does not make sense.

Other good things, pretty much everything else, the game is beautiful to see and hear, gameplay is pretty much the same as in F3 so it is good fun. The thing that I though was particularly good in this one was the story, very good story with different factions and some charismatic secondary characters. The story is what made me like F4 more than F3, it is in my opinion quite good.

Finally, I forgot to mention that maybe I would have liked a venue with a bit more charisma. I don’t have anything against Boston, but for me it’s just another city, does not have anything special (USA people might feel different about this).

Anyway, you liked F3? go for this one, I’m pretty sure you’ll love it. In general, if you like this kind of game (I’d call it an rpg mixed with a bit of fps), F4 is quite a safe bet in my opinion.

Well...Fallout...what can I say...I love you!! To give a bit of background, I am an older and very new gamer, who got the bug about 18 mnths ago. To give a bit of background, I am an older and very new gamer, who got the bug about 18 mnths ago. In that time I've played a stack of games exhaustively, and have had a great time, but none compares, for me, to the enjoyment I've had from FO4. I've played it through 3 times, each time going up a difficulty, and never stopped being enthralled. Let me be straight - it is far from perfect. It is VERY glitchy for one thing. (Carla...get your damn Brahmin OUT of my living room!).The dialogue can be disappointing and it's particularly annoying that you often have no idea what your character is going to come out with, as the very cryptic options you're given don't cover it. As a new gamer I can't speak for how good the combat is compared to anything else, but I've found the weapons have a variety of different 'feels' and seem very response to me, I've enjoyed playing around with the many weapon choices and finding my own style, used VATS a lot and, as I've improved, enjoyed not using it too. The main story line isn't epic but good enough that I've been able to play it through three times without getting too bored, and some of the companions and their story's have been utterly engrossing and moving (I'm looking at you Nick Valentine). In fact, the NCP's are in general a likeable bunch and having them around has added a lot to the experience. And there's Dogmeat, what could be better? Other than his propensity for occasionally getting lost - I once spent a whole week, in real time, frantically searching or him in every available moment I had - he is the perfect doggy sidekick and I actually miss him when I return to real life! I've really got into modding the weapons and armor and have had the most fun playing with my power armor collection. The HUGE side story of this game is the settlement building, which for the substantial community of players that have embraced it, is endlessly engrossing and fun, and for that alone you can keep coming back to this game and have new stuff to do, bigger and better settlements to build. Shame about the settlers themselves who are a totally uninspiring bunch who do little but moan and stand on the roof at inopportune times. I wish they could have been better, Bethesda. It's frustrating to have built a fantastic bar/restaurant with all the amenities, great lighting, decor, music etc. for that miserable bunch of gits to sit there like a wet weekend. I'm surprised at people who have complained about the graphics because they may not be the Witcher 3, for example, but are still plenty good enough and I have often found myself stopping in the midst of game play to marvel at the view from the top of Corvega...or from the balcony of my home in Sanctuary Hills. To me, this game is what gaming is all about, something with a bit of heart as well as a fair bit of running around shooting stuff, plenty to explore and a fantastic range of environments to do it in, and good company to do it with. It seems to me that so much of the negative feedback on this game is from people who liked Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and clearly Fallout 4 is a different thing. Shame though, for it to cast such a pall on such an epic contribution for what is isn't rather than acknowledging what it is. UPDATE: ...so, after months & months of waiting and frustration, mods have at last come for Fallout 4. TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE...I've gone out & bought an XBox and the minute it arrives I'll be diving back into Fallout...with a new beginning...new gear...new dialogue...new characters and places to explore....green grass and leafy trees...Dogmeat at my side AND a companion.....I can't wait. But first, I'm going to play Fallout 3 and New Vegas! Thank you, Bethesday. Shame on you, Sony! Expand

The Wastelands can be both depressing and magnificent at the same time, showing a world that was once known and lived in, now destroyed, while also giving us a new world full of hope and promise.

The combat, crafting options, and settlement building in Fallout 4 are great because it all feels so natural in the world that you are now living in. There are interesting and complex characters that you will meet throughout that add to the overall gameplay.

This game does have its flaws, the graphics are less than stellar, the inventory management can be a chore, and the overall story starts out as promising and interesting but does seem to run out of steam towards the end.

But overall, this has become one of my favorite games. It is a great and highly addictive RPG/FPS that will constantly make you wonder what is around each corner and a world that is absolutely amazing to explore.

My favourite Fallout game to date.

Why? Because I can basically make whatever experience I want with this game. Survival? Check. Shooter? Check. Base Builder? Check.

It's not even that buggy, especially with the amazing modding community fixing stuff Bethesda can't be bothered to.

Is it perfect? No. Is it fun? Yes.

On the base of it, the game is painfully easy, the dialogue choices are lame, and the two endings have virtually no consequences whatsoever, but I can't deny how fun this game is. V.A.T.S has improved from Fallout 3, the game soundtrack is virtually the same, but it's still incredible, and some of the companions have great dialogue too.

The world design & graphics are a little bland compared to it's competitors, but the sheer amount of things to explore within it keeps you busy. This is what I have always enjoyed about Bethesda RPG's, and Fallout 4 takes it to another level (even pushing the depth of Skyrim quests).

14 months and a ton of patches, and crashes later, I've finished the main story and too many quests of this AAA Early Access.
I didn't bought the overpriced DLC, the game already has a lot of content and areas to explore. I was expecting something more polished, taking into account that the engine is from a game more than 5 years old.

Can't take a game for what it is.

That being said, Fallout 4 is my favorite Fallout game. And here's why.

I'm no veteran of the series. I jumped in on 3 and loved that game to pieces. Then I tried New Vegas and it almost murdered my PS3 2 hours in and then refused to play, so I never even got into that one. Despite that, I was lukewarm on Fallout 4. I was excited, but at the same time, nothing about it really made me get it until over a year after it came out. But once I got it, I couldn't put it down for a single second. Most of my time was spent playing this game, tearing it to pieces, exploring and fighting and building my settlements and looting and building my settlements and modding my guns and questing and building my settlements and building my settlements and also, maybe most importantly, building my settlements. The game is a damn blast, and I don't mind the fact that it's been streamlined, because it felt... well, more streamlined. It just flowed better than 3 did, especially with how almost broken that game was in how buggy it was and the fact that it ran at about 15 FPS on average on PS3 and hitting the VATS button was taking a leap of faith my PS3 didn't appreciate at all with about a 50/50 chance of the game just crashing outright. The game is the smoothest running Bethesda RPG to date, hands down. It actually WORKS. I've only encountered 3 crashes in my entire time playing it, and I've completed the entire game, explored everything, done everything, over level 100. Also, you can actually shoot straight in this game, which is cool. Don't have to spam VATS for everything now.

True, what the butthurt fanboys say, however. The RPG elements are dumbed down immensely for this game. The dialogue is nowhere near the depth it was in 3 or New Vegas, with simple one to two word summaries of responses with only four dialogue options, favoring a Bioware-like Mass Effect-esque dialogue wheel, which I didn't really like. I liked the more nuanced responses in 3, and the detailed descriptions of what I'm about to say. The "Sarcastic" response can range from either a quick light humored quip to accusing someone of being Hitler. It basically devolves into the "be nice" or "be a dick" categories. No room for in between.

The story isn't as strong as 3s, even though it has a moral dilemma that's much more compelling. The moral dilemma comes with choosing your faction, and it really threw me for a loop. I actually thought long and hard on which faction I should join, taking in their pros and cons, weighing up the options, considering at one point to just not choose at all, before going to the Brotherhood of Steel, because OBVIOUSLY you choose the Brotherhood of Steel. They have a god damn zeppelin. However, after that, the story falls flat. You just go around doing "kill them all" missions, then you get an ending where nothing changed and none of your choices mattered. It's just a character monologue where none of your decisions are mentioned and then post-game you occasionally see your faction around in the wasteland. That's it.

Additionally, despite being the smoothest Bethesda RPG by far, it's still marred with bugs. Most of them are entertaining, and don't hurt the game, but the settlement bugs can downright break your experience. The numbers of settlers or resources or friggin BEDS can glitch out and display wrong. It wouldn't be bad if the game registered the numbers as fact, making their happiness drop like the Brotherhood's zeppelin really ought to, by the looks of it, requiring you to go to the settlement and manually fix it by going into the workshop once there, and by that time the settlement you just came from bugged out again, and you have to go back and forth for a whole damn HOUR TRYING TO GET THE NUMBERS TO STAY THE WAY THEY'RE F***ING SUPPOSED TO BE. F***ING BETHESDA, FIX THIS SH**!

    *Ahem*

SPEAKING OF SETTLEMENTS! I enjoyed the hell out of the settlement building aspect. You can build buildings, place crops, manage your settlers, assign jobs, make money though shops, and basically build yourself a little living inside the game. It feels nice outside of all the adventuring to just hang out with your friends in a home you yourself built.

Fallout 4 is a blast. I absolutely love it. Everything I explained is without ANY DLC, as well, so I expect the game to only get better with them. Then there's the fact that there's mod support, allowing you to alter the game in millions of ways, providing even more value for your money. Despite it not being your old school Fallout, it's certainly not terrible. It's just different. But that doesn't make it worse.

And although optimization on PS4 Pro has not been achieved, and graphically the game stuck somewhere in 2010-13 from Fallout 4 after 6 years still gives shape to modern games in the open world. Perhaps this is due to the fact that microtransactions and huge soulless empty worlds were not so popular back then. In Fallout 4, the main story is not so important, here is the most important detailed game world, and it has excellent secondary quests. Expand

I really enjoyed the game as a whole. There are always downsides to sandbox games. The main distraction for me personally was building settlements. This is where I spent most of my time. I would fully build and populate one and then explore in an outward spiral from Sanctuary. If I found a new area I fully explored it and did any related quests. After exploring for a while I'd tackle another settlement. As my exploration grew and I met the faction I would do those quest lines as far as possible. Then go back to my cycle. I avoided the main quest for a very long time. That's how I approached FO4. I explored, did quests, and didn't concern myself my the storylines much until I had conquered nearly all of the map. I've always had this same approach with Fallout and TES. It works for me. I felt no urgancy to do the main quest because quite frankly I wanted to explore and I knew it'd be there.
I thoroughly enjoyed exploring and building each settlement and my goal was always 20 settlers at least for each one. The locations varied enough so I never took the same approach twice. I had a few hallmarks, but that is just preference.
Brass tax. The only negative thing I can say about FO4 is the freedom probably took away from the urgency the main quest required. If they had time tables for certain parts, or even the whole thing, it would have been more compelling. I never expect a lot from sandbox games like this in terms of story. I play traditional RPGs for that. I play these for the freedom and open world activities that go with it. I played all four faction storylines to completion. The different takes on the main quest were interesting. The main quest as a whole was decent. I was not expecting anything game changing. I got whst I expected. For what was there it was good, but I wish there was more.
The companion side stories were also fairly decent. Nothing special, but they did add to the characters. I honestly want more from companions, but I knew what I was going to get. I always want more character development. In almost everything.
I'm looking at everything as a whole. I enjoyed every moment I have spent and will spend in FO4. I just can't shake the feeling it has unrealized potential. The world is huge with so many characters and possibilities. Posting this after all DLC is released makes me sad. I'd gladly have paid more for more.
I can't compare this to FO3 as I've not found time to play it.

Note to game developers, if I have to look up online and have a 3rd/4th party explain to me how an important mechanic in your game works like Radiation or "Rad levels", YOU FAILED.

I have no idea what I'm suppose to be doing in game, in a made up alternative world, other than feeling bad about my wife/husband being killed by someone for unknown reasons (At the start), and I'm suppose to be tracking down the killer/kidnapper.

Some of the good points of the game are the great quantity and variety of places to explore as well as the new way of building settlements and personalization of weapons that undoubtedly were the mechanics with which I had the most fun.

Now what about the negative part of the game that most caught my attention was the repetitiveness of the quests mainly from side quests that are almost entirely composed of go somewhere and kill a bunch of invaders or mutants, another thing that disappointed me a lot was The story of Fallout 4 that tries to be profound in the plot of a father in search of his kidnapped son, but that fails miserably in giving us a sense of urgency or attachment to the plot.

In my opinion this failure is due to the lack of charisma and development of the characters that often appear to have no personality or life of their own as if their existence depended solely on serving the main character making most of the characters in the game easily forgettable except for A few exceptions like Nick Valentine, the synthetic who works as a private detective in Diamond City with a noir style that charms everyone, and the butler robot Codsworth who served the family of his character before the war and that was the 200 years in which you were frozen Care of your old home.

Finally I can say that Fallout 4 is a good game in the direction of bring us much content, however with some errors and bugs dated and failing to surprise and overcome their predecessors becoming repetitive from a certain point other than Skyrim that until the days Has a lot to offer and certainly does not match the great RPGs of this generation like The Witcher 3 and Dragon Age inquisition. Summarizing Fallout 4 is worth to playing but is not a priority in RPG or worth a full price.

This is more or less the score I give of Fallout 4 when including all DLC. On it's own, it would be a 6 and this comes from such an avid fan for Fallout 3 and New Vegas. To add a town builder in the game was like Bethesda was more interested in getting Sims and Minecraft players involved and adding that with the Disney-style aesthetics to the Fallout Boy and its world, it really feels like a game more driven for the wrong crowd.

Is Fallout 4 fun? Absolutely. The combat is the best of the 3 and the use of modifications introduced in New Vegas and improved on in 4 is really awesome. Add a crafting system that New Vegas (and Skyrim) had done and be more versatile with it in this really makes playstyles vary even more and creates better experiences. The power suits are great to fight in, but comes at a cost of not being as prolific as how you got them previously, where you had to progress pretty far in the game in order to earn it (like a right of passage). 4 just gives it almost as soon as you step out of your vault and into Concord.

Fallout 4 has alot for you to do, but nothing really feels as compelling at all (bar a few quests of course). Even Far Harbor and Nuka World barely try to throw you new stuff that feels interesting. If you are a diehard fan of the Fallout series you will (or already have) bought this game, but for those onlookers who see this game and wonder it's worth a buy I would have to say no. It's very unpolished, graphics are lacking, story is terrible, content feels repetitive and not that interesting. It was basically Bethesda trying to make Skyrim again, but failed to realized it was Fallout and how different those games are despite both being made by them.

I was so hyped for the game, but in the end it disappointed and frustrated me. bad animations, a lot of bugs, feels like an PS3 game.

Sure, the game does get way too expanded and the side questing/exploration distracts from the main quest. When hasn't it been that way in ANY Bethesda RPG?!
The main quest is better than it's ever been, even with the not-so silent protagonist. Granted their lines could have been a LOT more diverse.
Weapon/Armor customization was cool, I wanted more, but there was still plenty of things to do.
I did miss weapon repair system and the karma points. But I wouldn't drop the score for that, nor would I do it for the lack of REAL mod support for the PS4. That was Sony's issue with the game.
Even after platinum this, I've STILL got things to do in the game. True Lone Wanderers know this is a classic, just like the others.

Fallout 4 is hands down one of the best games I've ever played that hooked me in for an incredible amount of time. Like all games it 's not without flaws and downsides of course, but as a whole it works very well.

Starting with the graphics and game engine, they are dated and initially (especially after playing The Witcher 3), it's feels like a huge downgrade. Saying that, after a while the graphics grew on me and I've come to appreciate the incredibly full and detailed world building of this game where there is nothing truly empty about the world. Whereas normally in open world games there are large empty spaces with a few roaming creatures/enemies, every inch of this world has a full story to tell if you're the type of person to appreciate that.
The 50s-60s theme just give it a natural aura of nostalgia that ties in perfectly with a post apocalyptic setting where you're meant to feel the tragic loss of the good old days. No other game achieves this level of melancholic nostalgia that's broken up with healthy doses of dark humour, silliness and downright dark theme changes. The world building is just incredibly immersive, interesting and fun.
Every aspect of the roleplay/gunplay/customisation are very decent and not overburdened/padded to insane levels which makes it very accessible once you get the hang of it (I find over-complicated systems and customisation detracts for the core experience of any game and acts more as a padding used when the actual game-play/storytelling/exploration is lacking).
One that point, the game doesn't hold your hand with tutorials which when you come out of the Vault can seem very overwhelming. However this genuinely adds to the overall experience of being thrown into a unknown, dangerous but yet familiar world you can relate to.

On the technical side, even though I bought the game a year after release, technical performance was not that good, however it's not bad enough to seriously detract from the experience.

Lastly the DLCs (especially Far Harbour) are pretty solid additions to the game well worth having and great for the price.

Overall I'd highly recommend the game as much as I would recommend The Witcher3 and HZD. For me these are the golden standard for the genre

Очередная часть удивительной франшизы в постядерном мире подарила фанатам и новым игрокам современную графику, не обязательный крафт всего и всея и неплохой, но интересный сюжет.

A strong return for the franchise, boasting incredible customisation, a fascinating world and brutal yet brainy shooting, slightly tarnished by lacklustre AI and tedious inventory management. [Christmas 2015, p.88]

Feral Ghoul ugly in many ways, but beneath its iffy exterior beats the heart of one helluva great RPG. Get past the graphics deficiency, and the sheer thrill of Fallout 4’s combat, crafting options, and exploring will hold your attention for months. [January 2015, p64]

Fallout 4 leans to the Shooting side of things. It strips down the gameplay from the actual RPG elements and offers a meta-nuclaer shooting gallery which of course keep its charm and gameplay wealth but also feels a little too friendly for the new comers. The Base builder mode is unnecessary, boring and irritating. Unfortunately, overall, there are no steps forward for this Nuclear Holocaust Behemoth of the video games industry. Only steps sideways.
