It is fun at first but then just gets boring a 30 mintues of killing the same type of monster. It's gaming at his most basic and if you like that kind of thing you don't want cutscene or sense of why and how things are the way are then the game is fine but I want so much more from a PS4 game

Doom is a tale of two very different shooters (and one quirky creation tool).

I've been a fan of Doom since I was a kid when the original game first came out way back in 1993 so and this game was everything I hopped for Doom to be. a non stop kick ass action game from start to finish.

The story is simple you're the doom slayer and you kill demons from hell that have invaded a UAC research base on Mars and that's it. Ok the story is very thin but this is Doom

Ok the story is very thin but this is Doom and the game completely excels at delivering a action packed game from start to finish just like the original Doom games before it did the same thing.

The graphics the level design and the monsters all looks awesome in this game, the music by Mick Gordon is just really good getting some of that industrial metal vibe it which I like.

Doom is a must play for those who enjoy a kick ass FPS game.

The only thing that told me to keep playing was the story because I wanted to know what happened before DOOM ETERNAL but the game felt rushed. It was violent and had an awesome soundtrack but those were the only good things about it. Some of the glory kills animations have errors like the sounds not timing with what happens , one if the songs (Rip n Tear) had an audio glitch, the bosses where all boring except for the cyberdemon, the game was SLOW AS HELL it is not even fair to compare it against ETERNAL, better graphics in ETERNAL, the gameplay is much more smooth on ETERNAL in DOOM16 it feels boring and slow and just... there is no point of comparsion between this 2 games. DOOM cuts the story almost entirely, symbolizing this from one of the very first scenes, in which the protagonist smashes a voice recording, one of the main complaints of Doom 3, telling us right off the bat that this is not what Doom 3 was. This is a true Doom game. No reloading, no stopping to regain health in cover, just pure fun. DOOM capitalizes off of the most primal impulses of the modern public, allowing a sort of outlet to unleash anger built up inside the player, in its exclusive goriness and grit. Blood will spill as you rip and tear your way to the top. The only thing that brings it down for me is the fact that in comparison to DOOM: Eternal, its sequel, DOOM is sluggish, lacking dashing and the meat hook upgrade for the Super Shotgun. In addition, the multiplayer is extremely lackluster and disappointing. Besides these minor issues, however, this is a must-play. Expand

If you don’t like intense blood/gore in your games, this game is definitely not for you. DOOM 4 (or 2016) managed to bring a dead franchise back to life in such a badass way. Dooms gunplay is fantastic and so is it's music. But it ends up feeling very samey since most places look very similar with the same color pallet and its lack of boss fights until the very end. You basically just go into room after room shooting monsters the entire time. Thankfully the gunplay is so good it makes up for i somewhat. Thankfully Doom Eternal fixes these issues.

    This is just super frustrating.

Punching also will teleport you past enemies. You won't know what happened so you'll back up, but you won't be able to and you'll think the game is glitching out, and now that enemy you teleported past is hitting you in the back. Enemies can also hit you mid air and cancel your jump, making you fall to your death to start the whole battle over again.

There is alot of platforming and platforming death in this game.

The pace is further ruined by the most annoying part of old Doom that they leaned into heavily, stopping you over and over to find a keycard. Where you having fun? Sorry, you have to find the Blue Keycard. Why this was put in the game is beyond me.

Good reboot of the doom games. Captures the combat intensity of the classic games but brings the series up to speed with modern mechanics and technology. Upgrading equipment is a lot of fun. Combat can get a bit tedious since there isn't much to break up the shooting aspect of the game. I also wish there were more narrow spaces and hallways like the original games had.

Honestly, the only minor complaints I have, have nothing to do with the core game (which is the single-player campaign):
    1. The classic maps, once unlocked can only be played separately - so you don't keep your progression from one map to the next. And also you cannot save during a map, so get ready to be raped by Pinky demons in tight corridors a lot.
    2. Multiplayer tries to borrow some elements from 'modern' multiplayer games, such as weapon load-out with 2 pre-selected weapons. And you cannot pick new weapons during the match, unlike the old-school multiplayer matches
    3. Snap-map does not seem to have the support they initially intended, like proper matchmaking and map-ranking, etc... which is bad because it is an awesome tool!

Doom (2016) is an achievement in quality that is limited by the old school experience. I loved the character models, animations, flow of combat, the different weapons, and detailed environments. The game also hits that early 90’s nostalgia. Wolfenstein 3D and Doom were the first first person shooters, and I will never forget the great times I had with them.

However, after a few decades of shooters, the shooting for the sake of shooting isn’t enough anymore. Doom (2016) does little more than drop enemies into the area, require the player to kill all of them, and then open a path to rinse and repeat. Some games have a relentless momentum like Halo: CE to Reach. In this games, you and decide strategically how to deal with enemies or blast past them if you want to. Even in a grindfest like Destiny, you can find the fastest path. Not so in Doom. You have to run and gun in small arenas until all the enemies are dead. Only then can you proceed.

Storywise, the game has little. I did appreciate the story being told from the 1st person perspective like Half-Life. I just want more story. Maybe I want more personality. There are no sense of stakes and no one to care about. Everything takes place on Mars or in Hell. So what if Mars becomes a gateway to Hell? The demons don’t have spaceships. Can’t the humans just nuke them?

All in all, Doom (2016) is a polished game that offers some fun, old school gameplay. I would have liked to have seen more from it, but I appreciate the effort that Bethesda put into what they offered. The game is on the high side of 7.

It's a fun game full of Gore and violence, just how I like them.
I'd recommend picking it up on ps now for free since it's just a big prequel to "Doom eternal" with an extremely unsatisfactory ending, much like Wolfenstein....
I personally wouldn't waste any money on it, but of you can get it for free, it's a must play.

It's crazy and hectic but absolutely fun. I haven't had this much joy playing a shooter in over 15 years. The visuals have a unique art direction, but the soundtrack is the true winner here - absolutely memorable making your heart-beat at every match-up. The only negative side is that the multiplayer is unbalanced and feels like an afterthought. I would have preferred some kind of campaign co-op instead. Overall: Doom is everything I would love from a shooter that gives nostalgia its name in the best possible way. Expand

Smooth gameplay, knows it's role as an action shooter. The levels are visually pleasing and worth exploring. The rpg elements are fitting.

Mild complaints: I would personally cut doom guy's running speed by half and the text is way too small. I have an aversion to industry-wide menu screens that are 50% border crap and tiny visuals.

Where most shooters rely on cover and practical tactics in a gunfight, DOOM thrusts the player into the role of an unstoppable destroyer where there is no reload, there is no aiming down the barrel or crouching behind cover because the best strategy is always forward. The combat is kinetic and has you charging through demons with bombastic and beautiful weaponry. There is a grace to the movement, a momentum that builds as you carve through hordes of Hell’s minions across a detailed depiction of a colonized Mars where industry is centered around scientific research and the excavation of resources. There was instantly a feeling of familiarity to DOOM, but that familiarity quickly evolved and blended into refreshing gameplay that exceeded all my expectations.
There is no beginning tutorial or opening cinematic, it is within thirty seconds you kill your first demon and the action does not slow down from there. DOOM understands its identity, making it transparently clear that the gameplay comes before all else.
The combat is brutal and swift. Armor, ammunition and health are scattered through the levels that quickly become arenas of demon slaying. You run through these areas, fighting and scooping up supplies while methodically weaving between charging enemies and demonic energy blasts. Damage compounds quickly in DOOM and the gameplay continuously thrives in the moment to moment action, forcing the player to rush enemies because every close quarters kill comes with a splash of blue orbs to grant health and loads of ammunition to refill your arsenal. There is a relentless need to push forward and it creates spontaneous decisions that can spread into a mesmerizing chain of kills.
Hell is not scary. Hell is bad ass. Heavy metal music is sprinkled expertly throughout the game, electric guitar and beating drums adding intensity to each fight and enhancing the jaw dropping visuals with tone setting instrumentals. Mars is a mesmerizing depiction of the red planet turned to a harsh industrial zone, blood splattered hallways and towering steel structures your battleground in cleansing the demon threat. Hell is built upon boiling magma, constructs of skull and bones beneath a cloudy sky of crimson as a backdrop to your war against the wicked monstrosities that occupy the underworld. Every scene, every room is imaginatively crafted to further deepen the tenacious vibe of DOOM.
DOOM allows you to become well acquainted and dangerously efficient with the weapon of your choice. The style and feel of each gun differ greatly and are effective depending on the enemy, situation, or equipped upgrades. You’ll find lasers, explosions and more yours to wield as your collection builds and the joy of finding a new weapon always comes with a rabid excitement to use it against the next wave of demons in your path.
The side characters and the DOOM slayer are interesting parts of the puzzle, yet it is the enemies that are the centerpiece. New demons are precariously introduced in each level, starting small and simple and advancing into more complex designs and mechanics as the campaign goes on. These demons keep surmounting until you’re fighting a vast variety of different monsters in one battle, multiple enemy types forcing you to adapt and master your craft. Some may charge you and disposing of them is as simple as sidestepping to shoot them in the soft flesh of their back while others hurl energy blast and smash the ground to knock you away when you get close to make battling them a combination of flanking and firing. These fighting styles require different tactics to win and learning and applying these techniques while battling ten different kinds of enemies establishes a sense of pride when finally overcoming the horde of hell’s monstrosities.
DOOM is both comfortingly familiar and refreshing original, rebuilding a classic from the ground up to reestablish a brand that seemed forgotten in the modern age. A pedal to the floor, heavy metal vibe immerses the player in a crazy dystopia of demon slaying joy that never loses its flavor through the sprawling campaign. Atop the adrenaline inducing gunplay, imaginative demons, stellar soundtrack and brilliant level designs, there is an abundant amount of secrets to be found and an intriguing narrative hidden just beneath the surface. DOOM puts gameplay before all else and reinvigorates a dormant franchise with an entry that will spark an entire generation of new fans in this creative reimagining of the classic shooter.

The game-play and pure violence and anger portrayed through the Doom Slayer is what makes this game so special. The game is smooth and fast. The gun play feels perfect and the weapons feel diverse and creative. The enemies are all unique and have different abilities that make the battles diverse and fun to play against. The game perfectly creates fast paced battles that aren't just mindless blood fests. The strategy in strafing and evading demons and choosing who to take out first and how is super satisfying. The upgrades are quite shallow but some of the weapon abilities are super fun. The game is perfectly paced always mixing up smooth platforming, demon blasting, and spectacular boss fights. However the game does suffer a little bit from repetitive areas where your forced to take out a room of demons and move forward. While the campaign is amazing the multiplayer is disappointing. The maps are all the same and very tight corridors locking you in the same battle. Demon runes are fun at first but then just become obnoxious. Load outs do not feel right and i would have preferred a different system. Also the progression system has barley anything meaningful except for bad cosmetics and weapons that are easily unlocked. Thankfully this is partially made up for by the snap map mode which offers many creative levels and give you the tools to make your own. It also features other bonus content like the arcade mode. After development hell, a fitting title to a game centred around hell. The combat in the game is fast, and absolutely bloody. Every weapon, excepting the basic Pistol, is powerful enough to be viable in any situation, but are more useful some times than others. Each one of the dozens of demons is unique in its own way, and some, like the Possessed Engineer can be a life-saver in some situations, while others are annoying pests, such as the Summoner, who teleports around the place, spawning enemies to overwhelm you. Other factors heavily, and positively, improve the combat for me, such as the removal of reloading, which saves you from slowing down or glory kills, which is one of the only ways to last on higher difficulties. The soundtrack is one of the most unforgettable in a video game, containing incredibly heavy guitars, strange pedals, in-your-face synths and even a choir when need be. Just to think what the music for this game would’ve been if Bethesda’s idea of no metal in the DOOM soundtrack had gone through. Another thing that the DOOM franchise has been pushing since the first game is graphics, and my god does this game look gorgeous. The locales are all wonderfully textured, and you’d be hard pressed to find anything that looks horrendous in this game. Secrets are littered across the world; and in every level weapons that are introduced in the next level can be found, and also Classic maps, which let you explore older maps from the first two DOOM games, and the jarring difference between the pixelated background and the beautifully rendered demons is almost comedic. The story is nothing much to worry about. It’s a normal Science-Fiction story, with humans finding a new type of energy, trying to extract it, not noticing the massive repercussions that are bound to ensue. If you still crave some more out of the game, there are a couple options, although this game’s campaign is quite a good-deal long, and extremely re-playable, especially for its miniscule price. SnapMap is a handy feature which allows you to create your very own map, and also explore other player’s creations. The game does a good job teaching you, and you can probably read every tutorial in the seven years it takes to load SnapMap. There is also multiplayer, which died quicker than a honeybee. And at least the honeybee was useful. Whereas DOOM’s multiplayer wasn’t. And if you don’t want either, well, kiddo, you’re outta options. To recap, DOOM is certainly my favourite shooter to ever be released, with its high-octane combat, unforgettable demons and even less forgettable soundtrack. I’m certainly excited for DOOM Eternal.

Simplemente vayan a escucharla! Es de 10!

After I played Doom 2k16 on release for PC and dropped it right at the beginning, I wanted to give it a try again. This time on PS4 Pro with the newest 4k patch and I have to remedy my opinion on this game.

First of all the graphics are amazing. Doom 3 looked overblendered but Doom 2k16 has a really decent artwork. Even with not being native the 4k patch looks amazing. So far I didnt encounter any frame drops but certainly produces much noise on the system.

The soundtrack is absolutely topnotch. Although its mostly very heavy music I have to say its mixed in perfectly to set accents on the scenes you encounter in the campaign. The sound is hard, heavy, fast paced. Your adrenaline goes up instantly and makes the fight even more pumping. They did a good job on that one. Although taste might differ of course.

The controls are decent, even for console. There is a certain aim assist but I feel its less heavy then in other shooters. I m not the best in terms of console aim and the game is really fast paced more like the oldschool 90s shooters which is very unforgiving. The AI is not ultra clever but it will seek you out somewhen most of the time, so covering is not always a good solution. But if you acknowledge the game and its rules there is much fun to discover. Go right in the brawl melee shotgun the demons, glory kill them, get life back, find the next one, switch weapon and wreck the rest. Very satisfying!

The world is a nice concept of a semi-open world that interconnects via story telling. The mini-map does assist good although I like the simple markers more. Mini achievements bring bits of difference but most of them will be achieved anyways if you just play, kill and look behind corners. The rune runs are a nice addition. They put you out of campaign into an arena like setting where you have to kill or achieve a goal with a certain gun in a certain amount of time. Not the worst idea although pretty simplistic overall.

The story itself is pretty typical for Doom. Nothing new but its just what you came for and it ll be delivered without unnecessary hazzle.

After all the open world and multiplayer driven shooters that were produced, Doom 2k16 is definetely one of the best single player campaign shooters I have played in DECADES. The sound mixing is brilliant, the OST is pumping, movement is very fast and smooth even on consoles. Weapons are fun and can be modified for individual play style. It brings different mini components to mix up the drill.

To me Doom 2k16 is a true successor of the old glory that was named Doom 2. For prices below 10 bucks please get this game and give it a try at least.

Doom is such a blast to play. Blasting demons and running around the map picking up ammo and health and never stop moving never gets old. Especially when the enemy variety is amazing, the weapons and tools are a lot of fun and its all spiced up by platforming sections, bosses, and a few brief story moments. The Story may be passable and the multiplayer is okay but overall this is a special game that revived classic shooters and putting game-play over story.

I consider Doom as sacred and I consider a sacrilege to ruin it in the name of modern times. Let's start from this clear thing, ok? After the criticism to multiplayer mode I was worried. I don't even want to talk about it. Fortunately, however, single-player mode saved the game.

Doom's plot is not the focal point as it was not in classic Doom games. However I would not say that it is poorly structured: there is a lore, a background, there are characters, there are turning points. And there are documents to read that explain events, technologies, places, enemies and weapons. Like Doom 3, but less heavy, this is still a post Half-Life shooter plot. The final cliffhanger is clearly a prelude to what will follow and I liked it. And (not even too much) extravagant fan theories or unsolved questions leave enough room to believe that Doomguy's past is less clear and more mysterious than it appears.

Notable work has been done to introduce a realistic, actual and modern, level design of the maps and at the same time to put secrets, collectibles, great verticality and real arenas where to fight. A successful union between two distant game design modes. Some weapons have, for my taste, a little too futuristic look (like the Pistol or the Combat Shotgun) but I liked all them pretty much, even new ones like the Gauss Cannon. I found the Rocket Launcher slightly underpowered, instead. Clever use mode for the Chainsaw, I must admit. BFG 9000 has less ammo than ever before compared to older games, but the feedback and satisfaction of use are impeccable. Gameplay has clearly undergone modernization: weapon upgrades, Praetor armor upgrades, Runes, pistol with endless ammunition (for what it's worth as a weapon) and glory kills with constant remuneration of health (and armor). There are various ways in which the game tends to "make life easier" for the player. So, is this new Doom an easy game? No, it wouldn't be an easy game, even if it would try. Because not only the weakest demon can wear out up to 1/3 of health with one attack, but above all for the fact that in this game you're always on the edge: if there was not a constant remuneration of health, the game would become almost impossible, because impossible is not to suffer an high constant damage. I appreciated the return of classic power-ups of both old Doom and old Quake games; in particular "Quad Damage" and "Berserk" – this latter one, paradoxically, is more fun to use here than in the old Doom, I dare anyone to say the opposite. Boss battles are very challenging and successful: even here – compared to the classic Doom games or Doom 3 – knowing and studying the boss's patterns and having strategy and fast reflexes is required. It's not enough just shooting them and the one I found the most challenging was against Hell Guards. Enemies' AI is rather smart, implacable and aggressive. I greatly appreciated return of both Doom's classic demons and new ones, and I think almost they all are very successful. In particular the Mancubus and Cyber-Mancubus, the Hell Knight (heritage of Doom 3), the Baron of Hell and the Revenant. Unfortunately, I hate few other ones and for hate I mean, if it was for me, I would have removed them from the game. I'm obviously talking about Possessed Security – enemies with so strong shield? In a so frenetic gameplay? Plus if they get too close they'll shot a barrage of shotgun that can kill you in a few seconds – and Summoners – too fast and strong, in addition they evoke minor demons: the chainsaw is the right weapon. But above all, for God's sake, Pinkies, I simply hate Pinkies: why, I say, why make them almost invulnerable on the front side? Why make them charging you that can literally kill you? They are annoying and are repeatedly placed in areas where it is full of other demons and not a few times Pinkies were the cause of very annoying deaths. They could have made their behavior more similar to classic Doom or Doom 3's Pinkies, without a stupid bulletproof head. In here they are a simple game design failure.

Graphically the game is truly exceptional, yet another example of technological wonders reachable with id Tech. Except some minor graphic glitches, is incredible the rendering on PlayStation 4, surrounded by a monstrous optimization at 60 frames per second. After all, we are talking about the evolution of the same graphics engine that ran Rage at 60 fps on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, in 2011, with one of the best graphics at the time. Excellent was also Mick Gordon's work on the soundtrack, with a nice mix of heavy metal genres; "Best Music/Sound Design" award at The Game Awards 2016 was more than deserved.

Doom is a game we needed. It brought the past into the future and succeeded well. It seems that what is old, is new now. The spirit has remained intact, the game works even if it has some defects. Now we hope well for Doom Eternal: please id... do better things and do not be foolish.

Doom honors its legacy while setting the stage for a new era for the long dormant franchise. Intimately gory encounters and a surprising emphasis on story more than make up for the bland multiplayer.

Exactly the right amount of old and new, DOOM is an adrenaline rush that borders on overwhelming in the best possible way.

Doom's shimmering, bombastic combat is as absorbing as it is revelatory. [Aug 2016, p.100]
