The missions themselves feel a bit repetetive and the story that is told throughout the game feels a bit lackluster but the great gunplay keeps you interested and engaged during the missions and there is just enough story to make you want to know more about the world.

Where the game shines is in all the elements it takes from MMOs. A loot system that is part chance and part effort, dungeon runs with pick up groups and fast PVP that's either objective based or (team) deathmatch.

The technical side is also flawless. Graphics, sound and music are out of this world and the networking seems solid, I at least didn't get disconnected even once. The action is also very well designed with the guns and special abilities having just the right feel to it.

All in all I would rate Destiny 7.5, but since that's not possible here and since I'm gonna give it some props for the potential it shows for future expansion I'm gonna round up to 8.

THIS game is very funny. I have probably played it for over 16000 hours and i just can't get enough of destiny there is so much to do even after 16000 hours of playing. I love the game because of the graphics and because of the community there are only a**holes in the community which means that it is a very good community!!!

Destiny. A game that was set to deliver us to a new gaming experience. Did Bungie achieve what they set out for? As of right now? Not yet. People who havent played many MMOs dont seem to understand the grinding aspect of this game. Complaining because you have to do the same thing over and over or fighting the same monsters. Um.. hello people, that is what an MMO is. Please show me one MMO that you dont grind in. Ill be waiting for a response. It's not a game for everyone sure. You have to know what you're getting involved in before making a purchase and then whining because it wasnt what you thought. This game is very ambitious and given about 2 years will be quite a fun game due to patches and various updates. The graphics are on par with old gen style Borderlands which isnt a bad thing. The story is eh, but give it time, Bungie is just getting our feet wet. The gameplay is where Destiny shines. Fun and challenging strikes, raids, and pvp will easily keep this game afloat even with the thousands of people trying to pull it down. Sadly there is no chat box option to communicate, which is ridiculous. Every game from now on needs to have a world chat regardless of the game. And where is the voice chatting when matched with randoms? The things they left out of this game are mindless, stupid errors. But they are fixable issues though. Which is Destiny's issue at this point. Mindless errors are randomly plagued all over Destiny's landscape, but in time this will easily be one of the most enjoyable games of 2015. Expand

Destiny is a fantastic example of how our generation is so desperate for instant gratification. My reason for saying this is due to the fact that most negative reviews game out within the first 24 hours using only the content that had been released to help players level and gear for the games future which involves raids and other dungeons and tons of endgame content that Bungie has promised will be mindblowing... Vault of Glass has already proven that they weren't kidding the raid is insanely difficult and involves mechanics that remind me of my days raiding in WoW... This game has rekindled that love for MMO's I once had and given me the opportunity to start fresh and try to keep with the pack and not play a constant game of catch up. Familiar controls, gorgeous artwork, great potential, fun character classes that don't feel like any one has a advantage over the other, proof that raids won't be simple as **** and that completing even the first part of vault of glass felt amazingly rewarding to complete, and so many more things. The biggest key to enjoying Destiny is approaching with an open mind and understanding what you want out of an MMORPG. Bungie did their best to cater to the softcore players as well as the hardcore raiders and they did a good job and anyone who wanted to get a taste of raiding in the first few weeks was dropped as a baby... The idiotic comments on here bashing Destiny before it is even off the ground are so frustrating I can barely put together a comment that doesn't consist of derogatory remarks towards all the moronic commenters who's reviews are going to potentially lose Bungie 2.5million in money that should be going towards developing more future content.... The nicest way of putting this is "they left plenty of room for improvement." "Destiny" has the makings of something great, but all of the greatness has not been made yet, and Bungie should listen attentively to the more reasonable negative player feedback that they've received. That said, I'm continuing to enjoy the game, and think that its graphical fidelity, fun gameplay style, and overall gorgeous presentation makes it well worth playing.

    What's good:
-Great overall feel for an FPS.
    -Cool weapons and armor.
    -Space magic.
    -Beautiful Environments.
    -Great voice cast.
    -Simple but consuming leveling system.
    -More space magic.
    -Dinklage

    What's bad:
-Poorly explained universe: This game needed a codex like Mass Effect, which leads me to...
-Grimoire Cards: Dear Bungie, don't make me use a web browser to look at the cards that somewhat explain the universe. That is all.
-Remember that great voice cast? Now imagine a game where they barely say anything...except for Dinklage.
-A story that is most definitely about something, I think. Maybe? It wasn't so great.
    -Total lack of character development.
    -Limited Loot.
    -Level cap too low.

Even with the list of gripes above (which are by no means the extent of them), I still like "Destiny" a lot. Bungie has created a breathtaking game world, and it seems like the sort of world that's designed to be expanded, and so I think there's a pretty good chance that the "Destiny" universe will be expanded to include more planets and (hopefully better) stories in the future. It's a very fun experience overall, and while it didn't quite live up to all the hype, its strengths outweigh its weaknesses by far.

Even with most of my game time was playing by myself, I really enjoyed the game play. With the open events to the Strike Missions that provided plenty of loot and xp, and now the 6 player raids that just came out, I am excited to see what is to come to the great journey of Destiny
I do have some cons for this game. I play most of my games on pc, but I went out and bought an Xbox one for this game. I do wish there was some type of chat to make it easier to group up. I do know there are websites out there to help with the community and grouping that you can join, and I will certainly be looking into that. But over all I really enjoyed this game and still do.

There are some repetitive gameplay elements. Escort ghost, ghost hacks computer, and then horde mode begins. I am not really worried about this as much as some people are....it reminds me very much of Diablo where you farm for gear in a story mode environment. Some have also compared it to Phantasy Star Online as well.

With my cons out of the way, let me just say that this game is fun. The fun factor trumps and can forgive the few cons that I have. This may not be the same case for everyone, but running around blowing heads off gaining loot, upgrading gear, grinding factions, doing strikes with friends, doing crucible with friends, and just exploring for the chests and dead ghosts is the most fun I have had with a game in a very very long time.

The music and sound effects in the game are great. The sound is immersive and you can hear the mobs all around you, the machines that fire their weapons. The large mobs sound large, the small mobs sound small. The snozberries taste like snozberries....it is great fun.

Some people are going to hate to just hate. In my 30 years of living I have realized there are just negative people out there who pick apart everything. If you can find something good and and enjoyable in the game and it keeps you playing then play it. Instead of finding things that make you miserable find things that make you happy in life. I believe this game haves a little of everything for everyone so....

If you are not one of the millions of people who already have bought the game and you read this write up...then I say it is worth the $60.00. And if you do get it, then I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

The game is beautiful, the gameplay is smooth and fighting mechanics are better than almost any other game I've played. In addition the multiplayer is flawless and I don't know what other game can even be compared to this on console.

I found this game to be way overhyped and other than outstanding graphics, it felt like a generic Halo. First off, you begin with your character being dead? Seriously? Plus if you select a non-human character, why are you ‘found’ on earth? How did you get there and why? Your AI partner, weapons, body shielding and enemies all feel like a poorer version of Halo. I also think the mechanics of combat operate in the same fashion as Its much better ‘forerunner’ and while I consider Gears of War to have the best combat style, Destiny should offer more than just standing in the open during a gun battle. While Halo has the same mechanics, that was a different time and that franchise is so much stronger. I’m an older gamer (over 35 years playing) so I like my main story campaign to be offline and not see a bunch of other players bouncing all over the screen and around my character when I’m trying to play. I also like to be able to pause a game if I need to and you just can’t do it in this game which is a big negative. I just could not enjoy this game given how poorly it is in gameplay and story. I already return it so I could recoup most of my money. I would strongly recommend you rent the game for a $1 or $2 and see what you think. It’s clearly not worth the $60.

Anyway, I've been playing since the alpha and it was fantastic. The game is very beautiful. The gameplay feels great.Every bit of the game has its own charm in it. I don't have a lot of time to play Destiny right now, so I don't know about the length of the story or how objectives might repeat, but it is a FPS, so I guess I'll be shooting a lot and I don't really mind that. Because it feels great to me.

I am also very curious, what Bungie will deliver over the next years to keep Destiny alive and interesting. I guess, they deliberately left enough space, to improve upon, so let's see.

Reviewers cannot review correctly Destiny within a week, it is meant to be evolving all the time, and try leveling up your characters above level 20 and experiencing the real game, it all changes then. I don't have a personal gain for bungie's success on this game other than that I wouldn't like gamers not to log into the game and make it grow in to obscurity. For me the only reason for this game not to have good reviews is that the people that actually like the game couldn't find the time to write anything good about it because they are playing it like crazy. What I can say is that I enjoy this game, for all its faults, it has a feel that makes it accessible to someone like me, who have been trying to crack into this sort of genre and have always fallen short of real interest. So far it seems like the story isn't too deep in the game intentionally to allow for people who want to, to simply skim the surface of lore that's available. Utilizing the grimiore cards adds depth for those who don't mind looking for it, and I certainly don't. I can see why people don't like the game, and I can see why people love the game. But I think it is not appropriate to damn a game simply because its not what you personally wanted, rather than looking at the entire audience its meant to appeal to. And that pretty much summarizes my experience with Destiny. If you want to play any of the genres this game "touches" you do have cheaper and much better alternatives:
Wanna FPS looting madness? Borderlands is better.
Want an "old school" FPS? Battlefield 4 is better.
Want a Sci-Fi RPG? Mass Effect is MUCH better.
Trust me, if you have a single doubt do not buy this game, as in the end is a standard shooter with bland mechanics borrowed from other genres without contributing in any meaningful way to game development in the most wider sense of the term.
An utterly forgettable experience. I am scoring it as a 4 due to the art and graphics (if this actually counts something towards reviewing a game nowadays) and out of pure nostalgia of the Halo series, as I cannot believe this game was developed by Bungie for over 5 years.

I´m afraid that Bungie/Activision have failed.
It has turned out to be an extremely repetitive, unimaginative and twodimensional game. Can they fix it? Maybe, but that would force them to start almost from scratch and that won´t happen.

To give this a 10 is as wrong and deluded as givin it a 0. 3 - 4 is fair in my book.
Very very boring pretty much sums it up.

Poor scores for Deatiny seem to come down to 2 reasons-

1- Social lemmings who hopped on the hype train, then hopped on the hate train.

2- Halo/COD Dudebros who expected it to be a PVP focused shoot.

Then there are the so called professional reviewers who seemingly didn't listen to a word of the releases from Bungie that THEY THENSELVES reported on. Never was this labeled as open world, or an MMORPG. Bungie specifically avoided comparisons to that for a reason. The bad reviews for this game read like a 10 year old whining about not getting their pony for Christmas. Spoiled and ungrateful. Of course I kind of expect that from Polygon- they're a bunch of crying hipster D-bags.

As for the game. It's beautiful and addictive. I don't have many games come along where I want to only play it for days on end but this is one of them. If this had been any other studio with about half the publicity it received, everyone would be calling it amazing. But there are so few people that can actually think for themselves or maintain an objective perspective.

True, the story could use some work but if you read the Grimoire cards in the app, there's actually a lot of very deep lore to the game.

Go in with an open mind, leave your expectations at the door and you will love this game.

Overall I enjoyed playing it but fell it could be better. Now I know some of you were greatly disappointed from this but this is why you do not let the hype of a game overtake you. It just makes you even more upset when it was not exactly what you were hoping for. Stuff in real life is not as good as the things we imagine them to be. But keep in mind that MMOs add things later on to make them better. Hopefully they will see the problems were finding, fix them and make the game as great as we hoped.

First a little about me, I've never played Borderlands and I did not play the Call of Duty series so this review will not compare the game to either. I have however been an avid Halo player playing every single game since the original back on the Xbox. Based on how the Halo series developed and how Bungie put a lot of time into building out the series. They had established themselves even before Halo with Myth and Oni...with that being said there had been a lot of expectation with Destiny because Bungie was behind it. Unfortunately, I feel where the positive aspect of this review ends.
To say that Destiny was slightly a let down is understatement...its rather a big disappointment. Its certainly not deserving of a zero but far from perfection or even as was advertised a "game changing experience" I should clarify "game changing might be accurate if isolationism is an experience. The game plays more like a Beta in my opinion than a finished product. It lacks clear direction, i.e. a FPS that tries to play like an RPG...or an RPG that tries to play like an FPS which one is it? The result is a product that fails at its attempts to meet both. It actually isn't surprising to me while Bungie itself has had an impeccable history in terms of game development, no company can remain at the top forever. In the same way that Square was regarded as the "it" company with respect to RPGs to feel from grace...most interestingly enough after its merger with Enix. Bungie entered into a 10 year publishing agreement with Activision Blizzard...a company that itself has produced a variety of games but far from masterpieces. Games like Diablo, WOW, Starcraft and COD are all great series in their own regards and have certainly appealed to their niche groups however I would argue that they aren't masterpieces. Destiny however marketed itself to be just that. It clearly borrows from its Halo roots with tight controls and beautiful environments aspects that I can’t dispute that particular attention to detail had been put into however the game (at least at launch) is clearly missing things that make it..well enjoyable. The thing I loved MOST about the Halo series is that I had options. Options to go online and play multiplayer with random individuals, tackle missions, objectives, pop off zombies or just enjoy raw undisputed red vs blue but I also had the option to tackle on the main campaign. Now here is what I will say about Bungie in terms of storytelling, they’ve never truly been great at it. After several years of playing Halo there are obvious parts of the story that if I hadn’t done my own individual research, read about online or gathered from graphic novels/books I would be completely clueless to the story. I will say that the story of Master Chief had certainly expanded from Halo 1 up through Halo 3 (when it was in Bungie’s hands) so with that being said perhaps the same will come of Destiny.

All in all Destiny isn’t a bad game, but its certainly not a memorable one and at the moment not one that I feel I want to go back playing over and over again. I know there are players that enjoy the mundane task of grinding thru levels and levels over and over but for the casual player that likes to pick up and title and looks some substance I feel the game is well quite lacking. Honestly a shooter that caught me by surprise in terms of story and gameplay was Wolfenstien…I was SHOCKED at how good the game was and how much the series had progressed from the days of old and despite it not looking as “Nextgen” as games like Rome or the Last of Us I felt it was a great FPS. All in all I still have Farcry 4 which right now is looking to have lots of potential, than again it wasn’t marketed as being a “gamechanger”. Hopefully the marketing department will now learn to choose their words a little more carefully next time as they have the potential to alienate their demographics and ultimately hurt developer’s credibility in the long term. Will Destiny hurt Bungie that still remains to be seen? Can it recover? Considering they stated they will be dedicating 10 years to series only time will tell.

    Cons (prepare yourself)
    - Short, you can beat this game way to quickly, spend about a day and a half and you've seen everything there is to see
    - No legitimate reason to make any class twice
    - Advertised as an MMO, not an MMO not even close
    - The last city on earth is 3 building that you visit to only find out what drops you have
    - Teams consist of 3 (WAIT WHAT!?)
    - Earth/Moon/Venus/Mars, thats it, hope you dont beat the game too quickly, because you've just seen every area
    - No end game, no new stories, no new places to visit, just revisit all the old things..over..and over..and over
    - Drops are random, even in pvp, no skill, no end goal, just random (example i can go 56-0 and get nothing, but the 20 who just went 0-50 got a legendary drop)
    - In addition to drops are random, there is no true "worth" of any item, with the lack of at least a good trade system, or buy and sell system, its pointless.
    - Drops are happening WAY to often, the fact that its been out for less than a week, and i'm already fully decked out in rares/legendaries, its insane
    - Zero reason to really replay the game more than once unless you want a hunter for pvp
    - PvP is broken right now, if you want to truly rule, luck out with a great auto rife and a hunter class
    - No real cities where all the players can relax, a small hub that offers nothing but shops to buy things
    - One city...just once city
    - the inability to chat in the city to get a group of players going...even though you can only really run a mission with three
    - There is no point in just "roaming" a planet, no benefit, no secret crazy treasure, just a random zone event which means your either fending off waves of npcs or chasing an npc down to kill it
    - Virtually impossible to communicate to another player without inviting him/her to a party (imagine trying to find a party to play with none of your friends on..god luck
    - Why would anyone want to legit level a warlock when you legit found out the benefits of a titan or a hunter passed level 20. Titans get amazing armor, Hunters get great speed, warlocks get...recovery?
    - When you hit level 20, you gain more levels by light, to get this light you need to find armor that has additional light, to find this armor you have to either play PVP or redo the same missions over and over again. Basically replay the same strike missions until you realize your over it
    - It sad but i can keep going for at least another 15 lines, but i'm over it. HUGE disappointment and you can already see the people leaving the game

All in all people expected a clash of Mass effect 3, Halo, and borderlands. What they got was an over hyped game thats aims at the only way to level is playing long hours to hopefully get a random drop that you essentially didn't deserve...

Destiny has a simple premise, you are known as a "Guardian", protecting humanity, which has been driven back by alien races, and you know stand at the last city of Earth. You choose one of three classes, Titan, Warlock, or Hunter. Next, you choose your race, Awoken, Human, or Exo. This is a pretty standard layout for an MMO but Destiny takes it to a whole new level by involving something we all love -- guns. Destiny is definitely a solid MMORPGFPS if that is what you choose to call it. It feels like "Halo" felt before, but strips away the icon of Master Chief and lets you build your own legend. It has different planets and different gamemodes, such as story missions, strikes (layered battles with oncoming waves of enemies, best done with friends and leave you with rewards), raids (like strikes but can take hours or days, much better rewards and much more in depth when it comes to tactics and organization), and of course the crucible (online multiplayer). Destiny is visually appealing, has optimal customization leaving you searching for more gear and loot, and has enemies from different backgrounds. Despite having a short story selection it has endgame options that allow you to extend your enjoyment of the game. Destiny has weaknesses as well as strengths though. Although it is a mass-mulltiplayer online game, communication is lacking as you can only voice chat within your fireteams (Emotes are your only other option). The story missions can be quite repetitive, and there is not as much personality within the characters as was seen in the Halo series. The loot reward system is flawed as well, decrypting high level engrams usually leaves you with less-than-stellar gear. Despite these issues, Destiny is a fun and engaging experience that I would recommend one at least try. Bungie will be adding more content in the future as well, so don't expect early reviews like mine to sum up the game in its entirety. Bungie has created a very expandable game that will most likely expand as time goes on. Expand

Seriously, the only category one could really argue against would be Fun Factor. Because just like beauty, it is in the eyes of the beholder.

My ratings, I feel are the core fundamentals of all games. Fun factor to me consists of many things, like if you like the story the that's being told etc. You might ask why would a reviewer not have "Story" as a rating. Well, what if there is no story? Like in a game like Tetris or Candy Crush?

Destiny hits on exactly what it intended on. Making an awesome & fun: online, Co-Op, MMO, Shooter. Destiny manages to bring console players together like never before. My friends list has grown exponentially since the launch of the full version of the game. I met a handful of “Guardians” in line while waiting to grab my copy of Destiny. And there it was…, I added a few new guardians to my friends list and then it happened. We started playing, exploring, and leveling up together. This is what hooked it for me. We started talking about our gear, where to find dead ghosts, showing each other where gold chests were, teaching each other new tricks and tactics, explaining how light works, talking about favorite TV shows, chatting about new movies, what new games we want…, and then it hit me….Destiny brings the social aspect of gaming to life like I’ve never experienced before. And, I’ve played other online games with friends before…., but this one is different. You can definitely play it solo, but it’s clearly meant to play with others. I can’t help but chuckle at the reviewers that complain about replaying levels. The experience of playing Earth when first starting your adventure is completely different when you’re a level 20+ with badass guns and gear. You instantly get a sense of.., well, feeling like you’re Billy Bad @ss! And it’s so self-rewarding, because you can clearly remember how difficult it was the first time you attacked that particular level vs. how you are owning fools after leveling up.

I could go on and on and on…., and I really am just scratching the surface with everything you can do, and everything I could write/review about. Oh, and Bungie is updating stuff (levels, missions, tweaks, gear, etc.) daily/weekly/monthly..., expansion packs…,

If you’re looking for a real review from a real game player, take mine. This game is really awesome, and if you take a deep dive into the world of Destiny, you won’t be disappointed.

    Good Luck Guardians!

My biggest concerns in this game were repetitive environments (because you re-walk through the same areas again and again), and the lack of easy partying-up. If you don't have active friends playing this game do not expect to easily pick them up by encountering other players running around the same area. The communication options just aren't there. This game did exactly what Bungie set out for it to do. It is the most fun gameplay experience I've had since Portal 2 ad everything fits perfectly into place. The art style, the gameplay and the story all work together to create an amazing experience that just feels.... right. Brilliant PVP, engaging PVE and a story with incredible potential for future updates.

My main issue comes when I am playing PvP for the weapons you have are null, everyone is brought to the same amount of damage and my shotgun that I have spent much time upgrading is no different from a level 1 shotgun that you get at the beginning of the game. There are so many little things that they didn't implement, like voice chat or some sort of way to customize your ship and your story, and just left the game so bland. All in all it feels as if Bungie and Activision have much more ground to cover in their expansions or the game would flop. Expand

Solid game. Would like to see more locales. Too much barren waste land. The Dink's voice direction was sub-par. Overall I am greatly enjoying this. I see it more as a great start than a finished product, typical of most MMO's (or MMO style). Can't wait to see what will come from Destiny/Bungie.

I am having HEAPS of fun with DESTINY. I am playing with a full 3-man fire team though (I honestly don't know why others reviewers on here are playing the game on their own, don't you have any friends!?!) and it is STACK of fun. Enemies do get a bit repetitive but the bounties will vary the way you approach each mission. All in all a very good game, but does still have room for improvement.

Let's start off with what’s good: the game is obscenely beautiful, not every game makes me want to just stop and look at what the artists have pulled off, even visiting the same areas multiple times I still just love to look around, it's freaking beautiful, the music gives me chills, it’s SO GOOD.
The combat is insanely fun, it feels polished and it's satisfying to ka-blam aliens with my shotgun or scout rifle (literally obsessed with that thing). Even encountering the same "mobs" over again isn't tedious which is an issue I have with a lot of MMOs, you get real tired of those nerds attacking you every time you walk through that area. I don’t even know what else to say about the combat, it’s really fun; Bungie is the master of fun FPS. But with the Strikes and Weekly missions, it get REALLY DAMN HARD. I wasn't expecting it to be so hard, it’s great. Even attempting the high level story missions is tricky, lower level stuff is pretty easy but with the hard modes the enemies just overwhelm you with numbers and being freaking bullet sponges.

I think a lot of people were expecting something else from this game, I think some people were expecting an expansive MMO Space-Skyrim (seriously, I think some people were expecting that?) you'll be disappointed that it’s pretty small environment-wise as of now; I don't have much of an issue with it, but a lot of other people might.
People were also expecting it to be an MMO, and it's not; funnily, the random encounters with other players reminds me of Journey, just think Journey but you shoot aliens.
But if you bought it expecting an MMO you'll be disappointed. The game is more like Diablo 3 and Borderlands. With that said; instead of relying on drops for rare loot you can grind for currency (the marks, coins, motes, glimmer is eeeeaaasy to get) and purchase armor that's JUST as good as something you'll find or win in a Strike or PVP, and I really dig it; I lost my mind killing the same boss over and over again in Borderlands hoping a gun I want would drop.
But yeah, there is grinding in this game, getting the PVP and PVE marks kind of reminds me of gathering weekly tombs in FFXIV, and it’s definitely a grind; if you aren't into the currency/mark grind you would probably hate it. Actually if you don’t like grinding I would suggest a different game, it’s fun for some weird people like me but there are people who haaaate it. For me it’s the perfect amount of grinding, it’s not too insane and the game also does not hand you everything.

Also the PVP? It’s fun, there are the regular issues nearly every PVP game has that I hate which is: I suck at it. But I actually keep going back to play it, it’s really fun and you actually get rewards if you kind of suck. I hope Bungie can fix the cheating issues though, that’s a bummer, why do people cheat with stuff like that? C’mon, why even play the game…

And finally my main issue with the game: the story is mediocre. Bungie should have spent the money on a sci-fi author rather than Paul McCartney doing a song. The lore is interesting and cool but the story was just executed badly and the writing could have been way better, especially when they have Halo to live up to story-wise (which was my favorite thing about Halo). Also, I really think the Grimoire Cards should be in game. The lore they provide is interesting and I’m not going to stop playing to go onto the internet to read them, I was reading them on my break at work haha. Games like Dishonored did an excellent job with the books throughout the game or Bioshock's audio logs with back-story and lore, that’s how you do it; the lore is part of the game, it should be inside the game in some way.
But yeah, if you were counting on Destiny to have the best plot ever, you will be pretty disappointed. Hope they can improve with the expansions.

The game does have some small issues I’m not really going to get into, there are already plenty of negative reviews, and if you don't like something about it, you're probably not going to change your mind.
But really, it’s nothing they can’t fix without additional patches and added content, I hope everyone else who’s playing with it will stick around to see what they add and improve upon, most “MMO” online games have a bumpy road at launch, a la Diablo 3 ;p.

Hope my review was helpful for someone!

If you enjoy MMOs that had large Grinds. Destiny is for you, you'll be running a lot of the same content over and over until more is released over time/months. There's many things to do and daily/weekly challenges with good rewards.

End-game is also good, Raids being the hardest content I've yet to see in any shooter. Even on par or surpasses Borderlands difficulty.
There is a vast amount of gear and ways to build your character to fit your playstyle.

The best way to put it is, this game will take up a lot of your time if you enjoy progression of your character and gambling chances while identifying gear. The game rewards you over long times and the gear you may acquire won't be the best at times-then that one day you'll get several legendaries in a row and squeal with joy.

The game has small MMO aspects placed with an FPS with good customization.
The best thing I can say to lore seekers and people wanting a Good Story, there isn't much depth-YET. Even though on Bungie.net your grimoire cards you unlock over time do give nice chunks of interesting lore.

I highly recommend this game only if you're a fan of repetitive grinds like I am and have a good group of friends you enjoy playing games with.
Solo-players please avoid this game to prevent disappointment.

You might get a ship, new color patterns for your armor, new weapons, or new armor. Who knows? But just by playing the game you are rewarded.

In PvE you have the equivalent of a looking for group tool a la WoW. Quick, easy, strikes that ensure you get some piece of gear. You have the reputation factions to choose your armor path. Cosmetic items to dump currency into. And you have the epic Vault of Glass that just opened. A truly eye opening experience for the FPS genre. This is what Destiny is. Each expansion will have a new raid, and if they are anything like this initial offering they will be well worth the money.

All of this is wrapped carefully around an incredibly tight shooter at its base. I cannot fathom why there would be such low scores. Even if this were a multiplayer only game with no play (anyone remember Titanfall?) it should get at least a 7. With all its offering and potential it should be at a ten, but the story fell flat, really flat. But don't let that discourage you from playing one of the best FPS offerings since Halo 2.

It will drop you in a random lobby of around 10 people and you can ignore them if you want. Destiny takes some time to have a great time with it. The early loot is really repetitive but finding rare loot is really exciting and rewards people for doing good. The truth is destiny is a fun game if you enjoy many of the great elements pulled out from other games, like the free roaming in skyrim. Destiny gives you 4 areas to explore which are not bad in size. Loot is a great thing to add to this game and adds a lot of variety. This is my attempt at an unbiased review of what is DESTINY. Do yourself a favor and forget the hype, forget what the negative people have to say, hell, forget what the positive have to say... Do yourself a favor and block out everything that has been said, to include the hype, and be your own judge. With that said, lets jump in. Destiny is (of course in my opinion) an amazing game with lots to offer. I personally cannot put it down. I had my reservations coming into the world that is Destiny, but I'm glad I did. Destiny is an a brilliantly, well manicured, masterpiece from a visual standpoint. The gameplay and control you feel in the game is top notch. To be expected from a group like Bungie of course. The more you put in, the more you get out. Its seems the deeper I dive into the game the better it gets, which is what we all want with any game, right? Its a slow start and takes some getting used to, mostly due to the fact that there is not a lot of explanation or guidance along your journey, not to mention a story line that falls short of great and nowhere near the potential that Bungie has. Especially given the baseline of the Destiny story leaves potential for incredibly epic storytelling. And lets not sell ourselves short here either, we have merely only begun to scrape the surface of what Destiny is and will be. It can only get better from here, Bungie will not sit by and this be all Destiny is, it is a constantly changing and growing world with endless possibilities, and the good news is, we have the best in the business to ensure that. All in All, I am personally already having a blast with this game in all areas, from MP, to solo story missions, to patrols, strikes, public events, all the way down to the decisions that define who my guardian is and will become. But don't take my word for it, discover Destiny on your terms with an open mind and see for yourself. - Jake The Jinxed (Xbox One) Expand

    Pros:
    1. Gorgeous game! Let's all be honest here. Destiny is a gorgeous looking game.
    2. I personally enjoy PvE more than PvP so a Pro for someone like me is how well the PvE aspects work. Three's company comes to mind. 3 works well for story, patrol, or strike fireteams. Also, not everyone is a god at PvP so it's nice to have the co-op PvE option. 3. First Person view just feels

    3. First Person view just feels comfortable and right. Who hasn't enjoyed a game or two of CoD-like games? FPSes are fun and feel immersive so Destiny's FPS aspect felt comfortable right out the door.
    4. No expense spared with voice talent (probably the reason for a good half of the cost of making this game even - lol). The voices are recognizable actors/actresses from shows/movies you've seen before. It's pretty cool. I happen to be one of those that also realize Peter Dinklage's voice role is that of a robot so I don't expect the "Wheatley" type character out of my ghost. I expect it to be drone-like. It's how he was directed so people should leave it alone.
    5. Character outfits/armor diversity is strong. From the moment I started, I felt generally pleased with how utilitarian my character looked. In time - as you level up, the armor gets better textures and designs. Each class also has its own unique set of diverse armor/item looks.

    Cons:
    1. Patrol missions are not as diverse as one would hope when bounties are matched with patrol mission based bounties and you are forced to do the same things over and over again. It's forgivable since the outcome of completing a bounty is worth it still but it would be nice if the missions were more exciting, diverse, or even had more meaning. This is not a game breaker by any means though. Still, I would consider it the most "grindy" part of the game.
    2. No auction/trading system. This is also not a game breaker to me since I want to give Bungie the benefit of the doubt for a while to see how this plays out. The problem is that part of the fun of loot is that you can sell it for profit in a game usually. That idea also has its own flaws though so I want to see how this concept turns out. Either way, you get a lot of armor and weapons and parts/pieces from the worlds that you can't sell/trade.
    3. No non-friend social features like chat. This one is a no brainer really. I'm not sure why a chat feature wasn't implemented in The Tower AND out on Patrols or Story Missions where you can come across other players. Anything would be better than nothing and there is currently nothing. Try on proximity chat, text chat to nearby players, etc. This is a very basic part of any multiplayer game like this - where social areas are created but basic social tools are missing.
    3. Enemy diversity is lacking a bit. I have heard from others on this subject saying enemies are the same old re-used creatures scattered around the planets. This is true for the story arc that involves fallen and hive. Once you get to Mars, the enemy you fight changes. I won't say how but it does so that is good but I am listing this as a con since I do feel the enemy diversity could be more broad in general as well.
    -----------------
Overall, I am having a blast with this game and I really hope Bungie doesn't give up on it after such poor reviews all-around. The internet is an unforgiving place though and the world lives around/on/in the internet so I guess this is the direction the human species is heading. Bungie has a long-term plan for this game and it will include many expansions/updates that will broaden its boundaries so let's hope the future turns the haters into lovers of the game - for my sake.

Destiny is a competent game. It is not any shade of spectacular. Playing through it evoked games past, a mixture of Borderlands and Diablo. Examining the content, I didn't see anything new mechanically.

    Mechanics:
Cooldown based abilities that are unlocked as you level, three standard fantasy classes (rogue, warrior, wizard), a limit of active abilities available at one time (similar to Diablo 3's system), certain weapons that level up as they are used (similar to the special weapons in Darksiders 2 and Torchlight 2), weapons and armor of various calibers as loot. A 'super' power for each class.

So far, solid treaded ground. This has been done before, and it has worked. It works again here, but without much 'new' added to the mix it's a retread rather than trailblazing.

    Gameplay:
The gunplay wasn't stellar. It was less responsive than either Halo or Call of Duty in terms of weapon switching, reloading, animation smoothness and weight, and trigger responsiveness. The ammunition system is fine, with standard ammo, special ammo, and heavy ammo matching a weapon type (a feature I enjoyed in Red Faction 2), but again doesn't go beyond anything we've seen before.

    Levels:
They are spotted with enemy spawns. Enemies will simply pop into existence at their spawn location about a minute after they were killed, in full view. This can lead to rather uncomfortable circumstances if someone cleared the area before you, and the respawn happens while you are standing in the middle of the spawn location. There are also repeated caverns that serve no purpose other than to house lone bosses that can be high enough level that you cannot damage them or the occasional chest.

There is lots of retreading the same areas for multiple quests, and the order of quests makes it so you need to back track instead of clearing an area all at once.

Loading times are common and long. Each transition can take up to a minute, and transitioning from a planet to the base or after a disconnect quickly becomes tiresome.

    Encounters:
Enemies are simple. Each name has a set of associated properties, such as melee attacks, a shield, a sniper rifle, and so forth. They attack directly, sometimes flee into the open, and otherwise don't indicate much AI cleverness. The Elites from Halo 1 and 2 felt much more responsive - in tactics and self preservation.

The way they are used is also repetitive. Overland enemies are there as mobs to soak up time and provide experience grind. Quality items rarely drop for these encounters.
During missions they are roadblocks that add clock to reaching the boss near the end, usually by actually being the element preventing the player from proceeding: the way forward is blocked by some obstacle / computer / device, and the player's Ghost needs time to hack / modify / detonate the obstruction. That 'time' is actually 'kill X waves of these enemies that are higher level than in the overworld'.
In event missions found on the overworld, it's another version of 'hold this point for X time' or 'defend the generator for X waves' of increasingly levelled enemies.

A large issue with the opponents is that difficulty is merely presented by their numbers going up. More damage, more shields, more damage resistance. I saw no indication of different weapons, equipment or behaviors, and that's boring. Using the same tactics will win you the day, as long as your numbers are within reasonable distance of their numbers.

The multiplayer is, again, competent but nothing special. It's team based and with a chance for loot at the end of each match. Vehicles are absurd within the mode, and the level design isn't polished nor inclusive of verticality.

    MMO:
Maybe. It's an instanced game world where there might be some number of players in your zone, usually less than 4. Seeing them there helps break the immersion of the game, since the story revolves around the guardians being rare and set upon all sides by enemies, but jumping out into a mission that only 'you, the player' can take care of and seeing another couple players with the same instruction shatters the narrative reason for being there.

    Narrative:
It's loose. The main character is mostly silent, despite the potentially interesting lore bleeding into every matte painting around each level. Combined with the lack of personality of the main, supporting, and background characters, there is very little engagement to be had in what could be a rich fictional world. As mentioned above, seeing other players on the same mission as yourself when the previous cutscene explicitly told you that no other guardians were able to respond breaks the immersion even further.

When I first heard of Destiny and the high ambition level Bungie have for this game, I was thinking:
I hope it has the history of Mass Effect. A big and open world that I want to explore, like Fallout. A good shooter game like Battlefield.
At least I got the last. I think Destiny is a disappointment. The planets are actually not that big, and there is absolutely no reason to explore

At least I got the last. I think Destiny is a disappointment. The planets are actually not that big, and there is absolutely no reason to explore them. There are a few hidden chests around each planet, but that's it. The missions you do on each planet is basically; follow the arrow on your radar to get from A to B, kill something and repeat. There is no point of discussing the story in this game, because there are none.
The controls are good and multiplayer (pvp) is fun, but that's it.
And whats the point of getting new spaceships when it's only for showing it on the loading screen?

    Plus:
    - Good controls
    - Multiplayer (pvp)

    Minus:
    - No story
    - No point of exploring, and the planets feels empty
    - Repeat, repeat, repeat
    - Grind, grind, grind

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Destiny is a game really well. I love pvp I find it better than Halo even though I am a fan of Halo . Halo license is for me finished, I replaced by Destiny .

However, the scores attributed to Destiny are quite wrong as Watch Dogs I made scammed by marketing. There I had no surprises, it was exactly the game I expected.

    Positive:
    - Really balanced PvP (level 2 finish first and I had the grenade on me 22/9 ) and the gameplay is very dynamic
    - PvE ( dungeon , etc.) is short but mostly for multiplayer gaming or with her friends.
    - Communication is very well done, you do not expect players to insult you . And when a friend joins you expect vs directly , it's a real positive.
    - The life span is the longest of all fps
    - Interface and I ergonomist is made with respect to the mojorité games.
    - The character designs are very nice .
    - The environment on ps4 is very beautiful, I love watching the moon the stars.
    - The qualities I see a lot because it's my job as a designer ergonomic but I think many do not realize .
    - The Star Wars next spring much, being a fan of SW , I love the super jump and spaceship :) Light = Force

    Negative:
    - Yet it is the biggest pillar of a game except for the call of . The narration is very poor, you have little bit of immersion and cinematic in this universe yet very great.

Bungie 's mission is successful, with the FPS half MMO . Critics who do not fit the game I played .

Destiny is a really good game, but obviously a lot depends on what expectations you brought to the game. Reading through other comments I see some people say "This is the worse MMO ever" and then you'll see a comment that says "I was expecting a great campaign like Halo" and then there are comparisons to the loot variety in Borderlands. Well, Destiny isn't really like any of those things but for me it is a satisfying mix of elements from each of those influences.

The game is satisfying as a shooter. The guns feel good, all the normal types of guns you'd expect are there and most have modification options to further suit them to your own personal tastes. The real draw for shooter fans is likely to be PVP and Destiny does a pretty good job of it, though I would like to see more objective game modes besides Control (Domination for CoD fans). I also think the super abilities sometimes have a tendency to overshadow skilled gun play at times. I think toning the supers back so they aren't insta-kill or adding a playlist that doesn't make use of them might be a welcome change.

The game also borrows many things from the MMO genre as well. There are daily quests, weekly raid lock-outs, factions vendors with required reputation grinds, end-game loot tokens, armor dying, group finder, wearable items to represent a faction and the list goes on. But, this isn't an MMO and if you're primarily looking for a social gaming experience like you find in an MMO, you'll be disappointed.

Finally, there is a loot grind element to this game and while it isn't as varied as games like Diablo 3 or Borderlands who make loot grind their main focus, it is better than I expected. I've liked experimenting with most of the weapons I've found but the armor is completely unexciting. Armor has a defensive value (seems to be dictated only by what slot it goes in and what item level it is), a Light stat and some combination of Intellect, Discipline and Strength. The Light stat is really just a proxy for how good the item is and accumulating higher levels of Light will drive your character's effective level beyond the normal cap of 20. As a hunter the Intellect stat allows me use my super ability more often, Discipline lets me use my grenade more often and Strength lets me use my throwing knife more often. All of these are nice but they aren't exciting choices and they don't really change the way I play at all.

My suggestions on how Destiny could be improved going forward are:
    1) Add more armor stats to make for some more interesting gear choices
    2) Add more competitive-friendly play modes to the Crucible
    3) Keep the new content coming at a good pace

This is a very fun game. Its like having a shooter MMO on console. And by all means compare it to an MMO, but remind yourself its not. It does share ALOT in common with MMOs however and thats its strong points. But like MMOs it lacks in a few departments. So hopefully the game sees some fine tuning and polishing in the next months.

Its not a game changer, but theres still fun times to be had.

Nice weapons but it needs some kind of special mode and everything else is mediocre however the story also has a nice touch of not too fast, it's multiplayer is bland and needs more fast paced action. Where to start with what is bad about this game....
    1. Sci Fi world written 100's of years in the future and we still use handguns, shotguns, and rocket launchers.....really? Btw, these guns one shot you in pvp even though you have a personal shield and power armor.
    2. I got to level 20+5 Light Levels (25 total) and the end game grind is crazy, you'll need around 30 strikes a week to max

    2. I got to level 20+5 Light Levels (25 total) and the end game grind is crazy, you'll need around 30 strikes a week to max your Vanguard marks at 100, probably 40+ pvp matches a week, thats well over 40 hours of game play a week to even have a chance at buying one piece of the best gear every 2 weeks.
    3. Pvp is so broken with unbalancing I don't even know where to start, piece of advice...play as a Titan, no other class should even exist.
    4. ALL of the worlds combined in Destiny don't even make up the same land space as the Barrens in WoW, it's so small, zero exploration, but it does look pretty.
    5. AI is so stupid, very predictable, I soloed multiple strikes after team members lost connection, dropped, etc....the bosses just have lots of HP, very little strategy except for running around avoiding damage.
    6. The Pvp reward system does not reward players at the top, it just a random clump of crap, random rewards to random people. You could just go afk and still have a great chance at gear.
    7. Spaceships, Personal Craft, Gear are all just cosmetic for the most, gear just improves your special and grenade timers
    8. Every world is instanced with a 1 minute load timer, there is zero sandbox and zero rewards for even exploring a planet, those public missions would be great if there were even players on the planets, most of the time it's me and just a few others.
    9. Storyline is non-existent......really, there is nothing there.....Zelda on Nintendo had more to offer.

    Good Side
    1. I got $43.00 back from Gamestop and put it towards Shadows of Mordor, so I only spent about $17.00 to explore what Destiny had to offer.

    Have a good day,

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
