A must buy for 15 € ... There is absolutely nothing special in this game. Regular graphics, regular gameplay with nothing new, regular bosses.

VERY REPETITIVE AND NO ENOUGH CONTENT ( weapons, misions, skins, classes, interesting unlocks...) TO KEEP YOU IN THE MOVE.

This game is overrated. I don't like fps very much but i think that this one is a complete failure. Same approach, same kind of enemy, history terrible and boring gameplay. The games has been developed to be a rpg/fps game but it seems to be doing bad both the things. I'll never spend again for a game that has been overhyped by marketing strategy and advertisements. Fail.

The Beta and Alpha promised a lot, the released version just feels like a furtherance of the beta. I am not bothered about the story either, however the "events" are just the same missions renamed, and then if you do get something for doing said special "event" you get an item about 14 levels lower than you.

I am not going to make the comparison between this and borderlands, I enjoyed borderlands. The game felt great for a while, until the dawning realisation that "this was it", once you have done that mission, you will be made to do it over and over again, for very little reward.

I am gutted, this could have been so much better. I firmly believe that Bungle, I mean Bungie prostituted this game to Activision and they chopped up what would have been a great game with a wonderful narrative.

I will also add that those of you who have heard of the loot cave, this got patched very quickly, however other concerns that the community have are being ignored. The loot cave was the most social part of Destiny, then they broke it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overhyped game that looks great, but in the end has no appeal to anyone for what it is. Is it an MMO? With such a dynamic combat system that is more Halo and COD than a strategical shoot and cover system like Battlefield or MOH, this game is too fast paced to need much in strategy when jumping like a fairy all over the place throwing bullets and grenades is enough to get through most situations, and the PvP is mostly broken with the matchmaking system bringing all types together and allowing their one hit wonders of a weapon to sweep boards for what can only be fairly called a rape or good ol' fashioned turkey shoot. So then is it a FPS? For the first 4 hours, maybe. It's actually pretty fun running around and shooting different enemies with different weak points and ranking up for the first bit of the game, but with a story that is mostly just hashed together with little to nothing explained, you finish the story wandering what the **** you're supposed to do now? Well just like the story line, the simple, but kinda off beat inner workings of the game are never explained. I had to refer to the internet every time I played to figure out what I was supposed to do or could do and how I was supposed to do it (should have bought that strategy guide, eh Prima?) So aside from the loose story which isn't really all that important and the lack of explanation for well, most of the gameplay outside of gameplay, this game still sucks as a FPS, and here is why: PvP boughts are rough, glitchy, and generally unrewarding, and unless you enjoy burning through the same campaign line over and over and over, at least the same handful of levels 4-5 times a week, then there is nothing here for you shooter fans either. It's too dumbed down and fast paced for a traditional MMO player, and it's too slow paced and unrewarding/unfulfilling for your regular shooter. If this is the future of gaming, then I'll hang my hat up now, because this game sucks, and I'm kinda pissed it took me two weeks to see I was wasting my time with what I thought would be an interesting shooter RPG like Mass Effect or Borderlands built on the idea of MMO sandbox. I was half right, it's an MMO built solely on Halo mechanics and an intriguing story line that is never explained, just told from somewhere in the middle. And SPOILER ALERT: If you're interested in the sandbox concept of this game imagine four levels that are big beautifully landscaped racetracks that span for something similar to half an island on GTA IV I suppose, with waves of respawning enemy packs and a couple missions in each area (4 types) that either are headhunting missions or run across the map (no timers mind you) and stand in a spot for a couple seconds. Pretty lame. Save your money kids, this one is a lemon sold by the loudest magazines and reviewers. Expand

So after seeing other reviews online I can safely say, most reviewers are being WAY to harsh on this game, I've seen everything from 1/10 to 10/10 so it's hard to tell where the community sits on the subject. But for me personal I can say I'm enjoying it a lot, I've had lots of time to play the game and find all the good and bad. First off this is a very nice looking game, just don't look up close at the textures. The vistas and landscape is where it really shows the lighting and shadows. The game-play is very comparable to Borderlands , It gives you a some what open world to explore and grind over and over for those legendary pieces of gear. Just like Borderlands this game is best played with friends, You can go without but you will free like you are missing out. Destiny gives you a fair amount of missions to complete and repeat over and over, as well as strike missions witch will end in a boss and almost always give you some kind of gear. By the end of the game you are left to basically repeat story/strike missions to complete bounties and hopefully have some kind of super cool gear drop. There is also the crucible (Player Vs Player) that you can play from the just about the start of the game, But is definitely best played at level 20+. Bungie recently released there first raid mission as well called "Vault Of Glass" and with all those things to complete once you hit max level it leaves with with a fair amount to stuff to do. But once you have played the missions to death, are tired of the Crucible and can't get a raid group together you are kind of bored of it all. It's not the feeling you want , luckily Bungie is adding new DLC and Events to keep people playing.
If you are a fan of Borderlands/Diablo or even Halo you will enjoy this game to some extent, but this game is definitely not for everyone and won't be enjoyed by anyone who hates grinding for gear or halo type multiplayer.

If you have somewhat realistic expectations you will see that Bungie has done something truly amazing with destiny. They have also laid a very solid foundation to expand and improve the game. For anyone debating on buying due to bad reviews, In my honest opinion, this game is 100% worth it.

Terribly bland rinse and repeat missions, dumb enemies that take little skill to figure out how to defeat. The story? What story? Unbelievable how little they do to get you feeling emotionally invested in the game. If I don't even know for what/why I am fighting - then why do I care? The loot stinks, gun variety is lame. The Crucible/PVP is awful - one shot kills by everyone, dead feeling maps, uneven equipment (yes I know it's leveled but there are still advantages...).Grind grind grind. Patrol missions? The most God awful boringness imaginable.
OK. There's some of my gripes. There are a few positives. The actual game mechanics are pretty smooth, nice FPS - although I feel it's worse in the crucible - could be wrong. The graphics are nice, music is good. There is SOME fun to be had - I've enjoyed strikes to an extent. Certainly not enough fun to pay $60 + DLC costs though.
In reality, this game is probably closer to a 6 or a 6.5 / 10 than the 3 I am giving it. HOWEVER, I feel like Bungie/Activision has planted multiple fake users on Metacritic that are giving this game 9s and 10s so I am trying to level that out. Many positive reviews look canned and not from the heart - I don't believe they are real people with their real opinion. GRANTED, this is just MY opinion, but look at all the 9s and 10s - something is fishy... And the game is not a 10/10. It's just not. Regardless of whether you have fun playing it. This game is a cash grab, and I feel kind of ashamed that I fell for it...

At times, the game borders on outright agony due to the way the loot system is set up. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was extremely excited for this game to come out. I liked the concept of Borderlands, the Loot Crawler meets FPS, but this was more up my alley. Scrap the jokes and cartoony cell shading and put in a gritty story and landscapes that can't help but make you think you're about to embark on a journey the likes of Fire Fly or even Star Wars that came before it.

What I got was close, but no cigar. When I first picked up the beta I knew there was going to be a problem. It begins with your character being brought back from the dead...which may make sense in terms of the Exo beings or maybe even an Awoken, but a regular human being brought back to life after hundreds of years? You must be able to suspend belief In sci fi and fantasy fiction to begin with, but this concept needed way more explanation than what was provided. I was hoping they would change this up on release, but no luck.

Besides other gaping holes in stories plot, the games story and strike mode options become super repetitive. Stand in this place, defend the position from waves of minions, rinse, wash and repeat until you meet the final boss, who's difficulty level only differs on how much HP it has.

But if you take the time to switch between Crucible matches, Vanguard bounties, hunting for resources and raiding there is still plenty of diversity and content to be found.

Games today seem to have gone with the concept of player created content, that you essentially are the story and what you do within the game creates the story. The developer is only providing the blocks for you to put together. But we need something to care about in order to make that spark happen, the game isn't open enough to not have some hand holding in regards to story concept and we all know that Bungie is capable of providing that.

An overall fun experience, especially if you have friends to make the journey with. I would recommend this to buy, but I hope that Bungie is listening to feedback and will be providing a more completed experience in the future with added content.

    - half assed story - these are the people who developed the Halo universe, which is pretty rich. But apparently they invested no more than a total of $10 into a decent story. Any teenager with a laptop can do better than this - they didn't even try. No answers or info is really given in the game, and 99% of the background info is not in-game but in the 'grimoire cards' on their website. WTF? Imagine if Mass Effect had had zero info on the Turians, Asari, Hanar, or any other species and just had a generic enemy called the 'Darkness'. That would be Destiny's story.
    - sucky endgame. After beating the story, what is there to do? The same 5 or 6 strikes over and over and over and over, and over and over again? Talk about boring. Then there are these big, bad 'raids'. Sounds cool right? Finally can play with a part of more than 3 people (seriously, Borderlands managed 4 person teams last gen for god's sake). But wait! No matchmaking! So if you do not have 6 friends with this game on at the same time, there's no playing the raids - which makes them entirely useless.
    - unbalanced multiplayer. Wow is the multiplayer disappointing. None of the maps really seem all that different from each other. Guardian abilities badly unbalance the gameplay and vehicles have no counter measures (unlike in Halo). As soon as Halo MCC hits in November, no way I'd ever consider going back to Destiny's multiplayer.

Overall, very disappointing. At least Bungie taught me a lesson - *never* buy the $100 special edition of the first game in a new franchise. I cannot believe I spent that much on a game that I got less than 10 hours of gameplay in. Ugh

Not exactly a lot of story of dialogue to it either. I think it gets it just at the right amount- enough to make people wanting more. The story is interesting and while I wish some things were explained better, I remembered that for Halo I referred to online sources in order to fill in the gaps. It was a very rich story, and I doubt Destiny is any different.
I was HUGELY disappointed in the level variety. There are different missions but it all takes place on the same maps. You follow the same path- you just "go a little further next time". I thought they learned their lesson from the Halo 1 days where they recycled quite a few levels that were unimaginative.
But let's look at the broken parts with this game. The campaign took me about 7.5 hours to play it all. This includes all side quests. It took me another 5 hours to level up through multiplayer mode so I could actually advance in the story (it's very hard if you don't). Therein lies the biggest problem with this game: Bungie is forcing you to play, not letting you choose what to play.
The theme ripples throughout the game: engrams, which contain "encrypted" items, has a really bad chance at actually giving you the color you want. Out of the 15 or so legendary engrams I got, only 1 actually had a legendary armor for my class, the other was a cloak for another class.. The exotic engram I bought gave me a piece of armor .... for a different class. Supposedly Bungie is going to make it so that you are guaranteed AT LEAST getting an item of the same color. So purples will yield legendary items or better. What good is it to get something that isn't even for your class? We will see about that..
So what do you do if you want better gear? You play co-op or multiplayer. Endlessly. Proponents of this system claim that every complainer is "lazy"; but I disagree. I don't want to spend countless hours grinding away at levels just to get an engram that might not even give me the item I want to unlock other parts of the game. Bungie better start increasing the item drops, that's the only way they're going to kill farming.
In traditional unlock system- you spend time leveling up and then you get to access another area. Bungie is leaving it all to chance. If you have everyone playing this game spend 100 hours on it, on just 1 character, some will have a higher completion rate than others.
I didn't spend $60 just to buy a game that unlocks portions on chance over time. That really ticks me off. On top of that they have the audacity to announce their DLC plan- $30 for 2 DLC drops. No thanks. This game is not fun if the mechanics are broken. Bungie is right, after 20 hours in it becomes a different game. A terrible game. It was fun at first, until I hit level 20, then it becomes monotonous.

Yet the finished product doesn't feel finished, as though Bungie carefully implementing graphics and exotic character designs and rushed the other half by taking the combat and story out of literally any Halo of Call of Duty game and try to sell it as a "re-definition" of gaming. Its a shame really, because on its own merits, Destiny is actually kind of boring sometimes. You start the game off being revived by some sort of guide known only as a "Ghost" and learn that our solar system is slowly being taken over by an unknown substance known only as "The Darkness." You also soon learn that the Guardians are humanity's last hope to push back the darkness and win. If your confused as to what the darkness is and why alien solders known as the "Fallen" are trying to take over, then you are not alone. The game expects you to understand why all of this is happening, and also praises you, the player, as some sort of saviour of the galaxy. Except we already know that's not true because there are about a million other people who have been told the same thing. As you level up you keep getting flooded with new upgrades and weapon and armour unlocks, which is cool until you realise there is nothing worth keeping in the previous level. Since the challenge increases and unlocks even more loot, there will always be something you worked hard to get that has to go to make way for better things. Perhaps the most interesting thing about destiny is much it doesn't define itself from the soulless and bland shooters like Call of Duty and Battlefield, despite looking like a refurbished and prettier version of Halo. The story of Destiny is flat, but I'm guessing that's not a good thing to speculate on, since all MMO's aren't exactly famous for having the most exiting and deep stories in gaming.

Overall I feel Destiny will just be another one for the bargain bin, but so long as Bungie keep regular updates and exclusive content coming in, it may be a while before we see that happen.

What you'll be doing the whole game is simply going to a certain point, activate horde mode and occasionally, face boss fights. Rinse and repeat. Different planets, same structure, same enemies. Defeating bosses are time consuming, the bosses don't even change their strategies, and after defeating them, the rewards are disappointing. The game does little keep you interested and you'd probably be bored after 3-4 hours in. Don't fall for this. I've sold my copy. I'm so done!! Expand

I pray, I truly do, that the free updates that they release for this game are going to be worth the money I paid for the initial game, cause at the moment, this "game" is horrible. With friends this game is great. Get 3 friends together and run all missions up to Level 20 and beyond. It's great fun. Solo however, with no one you know having this game, it sucks.

Why? Why in an "MMO" do I not have the option to matchmake for EVERYTHING?! If I want to do ANYTHING beyond Level 24, I have to go onto Forums asking for people to add me so I can add them to a Fireteam so that we can do anything beyond this point.
This game is so unfinished I have an armor shader called "18327496-64703388" instead of having a name! I do not expect to be playing a game and come across such glaring faults, that are so easy to fix that it's already in other parts of the game (you can matchmake for PVP and lower level strikes but for some reason they've taken it away here!!!).
Now, for the good stuff. The music is incredible! I want the soundtrack to this entire game now. It is gripping and adds such ambiance to the entire game that it might actually overshadow the game-play at times when you think "That's it?!" after beating a boss.
The art, oh my sweet lord, the art is amazing. I was with my friends in a Skype Call the first time I was on the Moon and as the level loaded we all fell silent in stunned admiration as we looked around.
This is about all that is good. As I said, with friends this game is quite enjoyable.
Alone however, you will find yourself raging and pushing yourself through the endless grind.
End game content is the EXACT SAME GRIND that you did to get to Level 20, just at a harder difficulty.
The true end game content at Level 26 when you get the raid, can't be accessed and is nigh on impossible unless you have 5 other friends with you who have also managed to reach this point in the fog that is the endless grind where I still don't see an end with a level 25 Titan and my Warlock and Hunter which I only play when my friends are on.
I'm sorry. I truly am to people who like me were expecting more. But if you don't have a group of friends who are willing to play this game with you, or you don't want to play with people you just met on a forum with teamspeak, I implore you, do NOT buy this game.
You will waste your money, you will waste your time and you will just lose more and more faith in game developers as you see more games release a game, but scrap half it's content so you can pay for it as DLC later.

Great game, Great Game play, Great variety in modes. Only complaints include voice chat (getting fixed) Loot issues (getting patched this week), and the cliff hanger of an ending. It is obvious that they have only given us a small taste of the overall story arc through the main installment of the story. Cant wait for the DLC packs that are to come.

I am not a big fan of Bungie and will go ahead and admit that, but I decided to give the game a try anyways. I applaud Bungie for trying to do somthing different, but it seems somthing is lacking. If I had to guess I'd say the world is very bland and exploration is borderline boring. I would also say the AI is fairly dumbed down.. I don't know maybe Fallout and Skyrim has spoiled me, but it seems like Bungie just took Halo and added new characters, and like other reviewers have mentioned the story is lacking. I am sorry, but the fun factor is just not there for me. I am going to give this game a 5. It is fair and down the middle. Some people love this game, but for the average joe gamer I believe you will lose interest quick.

After two days, I had the story nearly finished and was almost at the point where I could start collecting the purple weapons...and by this point I had a voice in the back of my head constantly screaming "why should I care?"

I'll start with the good, character and weapon design is pretty well done, it's standard sci-fi fare, sounds are a mixed bag, with some weapons sounding like plastic toys and others are viscerally satisfying. The lighting stands out particularly, shadows dance off the walls and seeing the sun reflect off a destroyed space station is breathtaking, although some textures tend to look plastic-y. Co-op can be extremely rewarding and the idea of running into strangers to tackle random events together is fun, although it's also Destiny's biggest problem, relying on others for fun. I have to draw a parallel with borderlands, where it can be even more fun with friends, but works just fine on its own, Destiny not so much.

On to the bad, what you've heard countless times is true, it is repetitious, and thinly veiled at that. Patrol missions are variations on 4 objectives, scan things with the ghost, go somewhere and scan things yourself (stand in one spot motionless) kill enemies, and kill enemies and pick stuff up. It's the same thing you do in regular missions without a boss enemy, and with less structure. It doesn't matter what material you pick up because the process is exactly the same. The 'Ghost' that follows you around and narrates your adventures is a mashup of cortana and guilty spark, so you'd think the creators would have done a good job on it, but the dialogue is cringe-worthy. I can't believe someone signed off on it with a straight face, although story is absent from Destiny, and it hurts the overall game because all the generically named enemies you fight are all just space fillers, and more often than not they'll either walk in a straight line towards you or stand there while you shoot at them to the point where you actually find one who dodges your attacks it's frustrating, the only purpose they serve is to help you level up, although no matter what level you are they give the same experience, and the difference between shooting a level 2 fallen at level 16 and level 3 is minimal, with damage appropriate weapons, although fighting a higher level enemy turns them into a bullet sponge and your armor into 1 ply toilet paper. The leveling system exists solely to hamper progress, and after level 20 to cater to MMO lovers. There are so many elements in the game such as ships that have no effect on gameplay whatsoever, and it all seems like wasted potential.

I could go on, and that's unfortunate, but there are some who will enjoy this game and I think you should definitely give it a chance, although to me it wasn't worth it. It almost seems like this game got rushed out the door to cash in high profile games being pushed back to next year and the story wasn't fully developed. I'd keep my eye on this series in the future and definitely give it another shot, but this one was a miss for me.

Once you've spent a good 15+ hours grinding you may be able to do the vault of glass raid, but only if your prepared to find another 5 people willing to sit through the several hours required to finish it. And by find I mean "fire up your web browser and trawl some forums" because there is no matchmaking for this, along with no in general in-game chat, or clan management. The fact that review sites and users have given this a 9.0+ rating is a joke. They are blinded by their love for Bungie and/or shills. This type of RPG with terrible storytelling is what we expected 20 years ago. Not in 2014. It's sad, because 10 years down the line when they release all of the DLC, people are going to say the game is good with great story when all they did was use 10 years to milk the players.

Destiny for me had a very promising start. The graphics weren't game changing but everything looked nice and the game had a nice feel to it. The gun play was very satisfying; enjoyed shooting aliens in the face. The biggest issue with Destiny I had off the bat was a very poor execution of the story. The story was just some monologue or briefing before each mission with some cut scenes you can't skip that are occasionally mixed in. Other then that, my first week with Destiny was a blast.

However, after about playing for the game for maybe about 15 hours and leveling up my character to 20, I suddenly found myself disliking the game. For me, after 15 hours I pretty much beat the game. At that point I already saw everything the game has to offer and playing the game further was just replaying the same things over and over. I get the impression that either rushed the release of the game or purposefully left out content so they can milk more money through DLC. Not a good feeling to have about a game.

This shallow level of content is severely exacerbated by completely changing the leveling system from a traditional experience based system to a loot based system. Once you hit level 20, you can only level your character by collecting a certain stat called light on gear. The gear can be obtained either through drops like a MMO or buying gear from a vendor with a special currency called marks. Getting gear through drops is pretty much random. There is no guaranteed gear from killing bosses or completing their version of instances. Also the drops are some weird blank slate where you have to go the city and some guy transforms the thingy into actual gear you can use. I don't understand why they don't just drop the loot directly, as is usually the case before level 20. One can also buy special gear from a vendor using a different currency system called marks. I found that obtaining enough marks for gear would require lots of grinding. On top of that, their are weekly limits to how many marks you can get. So even if you wanted to do endless grinding, you have a weekly cap limit to deal with.

The combination of lack content and designing the game to suddenly become a slow grind forced me to completely change my opinion on the game. I truly enjoyed the game the first week or so. Then I basically beat the game and the game tried to pass of replaying the same stuff over and over again as content. I honestly felt insulted. The designers think that I am willing to put in hours and hours playing the same missions to slowly level my fictional character and obtain fake gear. I like playing games because they are fun. Destiny after 15 hours is not fun at all. It suddenly becomes a chore.

There is also pvp in it but its nothing special but its not horrible. The interesting part is that enemies always show up on your radar, so gunfights are always head to head battles and rarely does someone get the drop on another player. I'm on the fence about the radar but it at least you know where campers are. The worst thing about the pvp is that the weapon balance is awful. Everyone uses the same weapon load out.

Destiny started off great but there was a huge and very sudden drop off in quality. I would have felt slightly better if they just ended the game after the 15 hours of content they had. I would have still been upset with the lack of content but I at least would not have felt so insulted like I do now. The game honestly does start out well but the game quickly runs out of content and this is made so much worse by the developers forcing players to suddenly put in hours and hours of grinding right when the player has seen everything the game has to offer.

For that purpose it's been amazing amounts of fun and I'm not bored with it yet.

Doing PvE and PvP solo (relying on matchmaking), then I think I would've given up by now and scored it as a generous 5 for the environment builds. So I'm giving it a seven as an in-between score.

Basically it is down to what you think you want out of Destiny. If you don't know a whole lot of online folks who are playing this, don't want to matchmake a team because you're a solo player and you do want a rich, dynamic story-driven game, then this probably isn't going to be the one for you.

I was disappointed by the heavy reliance on external lore through the Grimoire cards on bungie.net vs. vague, hokey, writing which is given as info dumps via the limited cutscenes and voice acting in-game. I'm not criticising the voice acting *itself* here because, as another reviewer has said, actors are only going to be as convincing as the script they are given to perform. (That actors and actresses like Peter Dinklage, Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, Bill Nighy, Lance Reddick and others signed on for this should make it my nerd heaven, but they are chronically underused at building characters and are often lost in Fireteam chatter at the start of missions)

However, to balance my view, one of my regular Destiny team players doesn't give a stuff about storytelling or voice acting but still loves the gameplay, so it's never going to be a big deal for others.

Conclusion: It's good enough for me as a team thing, solid weaponry and gameplay. Solo, I'd be bored and frustrated at the lack of story to buy into for the amount of level grinding needed in the same environments with the same enemies.

Hello everyone and welcome to my Destiny review.

Destiny is the latest game from Halo series creators Bungie, which can be clearly seen in the clever level design and sharp shooting mechanics.

Although it is a hard game to categorize, Destiny can be considered a MMOFPS, as you share the world with other players but you're free to do whatever you want.

    ===========Graphics==========

Destiny is gorgeous to look at.

Bungie once again shows that they are one of the best in the world when it comes to art direction and level design.

From the desolated wasteland of Old Russia to the deserted areas of Mars (it looks a lot like Tatooine, specially when you are driving around in your Sparrow) you're presented with beautifull scenarious that you constantly amaze you, even after spending several hours with the game.

    ===========Gameplay====================

This is where Destiny excells, the sharp shooting, the inteligent enemy AI, the hard to take down bosses, all merge together to create an wonderfull experience (Bungie's 30 second heart race that keeps you coming back for more).

Even when you're just trying to cruise along, if an enemy pops out in the corner of your eye you go for it as it's just so much fun.

    ===============The Crucible===============

Destiny's PVP is a great experience, even with it's hard learning curve and early unbalanced matchmaking.

You will grow to love it with time, as you start learning how to spot your enemies quickly and how to engage and disengage in firefights.

    =====================The Story===================

Many people consider this Destiny's weakness.

The story is provided to you in loading screens and some cutscenes (that leave you wishing for more).

Although it is quite vague it sets the tone of the game and gives you the reason to shoot all those aliens in the face and come back for more.

After all, you are a Guardian, you're supposed to go on missions that help restoring the Traveller and that's exactly what you will be doing.

    ========================Verdict===================

Destiny is a great game, the mechanics are great, the vistas are gorgeous and the world is really appealing and addictive.

After you try it and start levelling up, you will want to come back for more, specially if you have some friends to enjoy it with.

When your car is shipped to you, you get in and discover that there is no floor where you would normally have pedals. Further inspecting the car, you find that there is no ignition.. actually, there is no engine at all. You are meant to use your feet (like in Flinstones cartoons) to move the car. You are upset a bit but you know, you have spent quite a lot of money on the car, the company that produced the car spent a lot of money on producing and marketing it, a lot of people bought it - It all means that the car is awesome, right?

You continue "driving" it everywhere, seeing other owners on the road who smile really, really hard to you when they see you, but you can see their frown face in the mirror as soon as they pass you... You have this feeling deep inside you, that maybe you and other owners have just been **** in the ass with no consent.

Back to Destiny. After 10 hours of gameplay, you have seen all the content and all that is left for you to do is to repeat same missions, same bounties, same PvP matches with very random and poor reward system that is literally anti-rewarding. After you reach lvl 27, there is nothing to do. The most fun activity which was shoting a respawn cave has been "patched" as Bungie thinks that players are not playing the game properly, and "according to their vision".

Bounties and missions and recent Queen event is LITERALLY same missions, same bounties, absolutely no new content.

If a game that has been released 17 days ago has been completed thoroughly by players then I tend to believe that a game is unfinished and it was just a money grab.

Destiny, as hyped as it got, was always looked at with wondering eyes. "what will the creators of halo bring us next" everyone asked. What we got though was not what i believe a lot of people expected. Destiny came off to me as a shooter/MMO style game. Quite a few people still refer to it as a Borderlands Ripoff, I do not. The loot system is quite literally what you expect from an MMO, long grinds, nothing promised, and everything is up in the air.

Destiny isnt the most adept at storytelling, but once it gets you out into the world things kind of come together pretty well. You will spend more time out in the wilderness, exploring for new loot and things to kill. Around level 5 is when you start getting the good loot, and it never tapers off from there. A good majority of complaints come from the fact that the game is more MMO style than typical "eventually hand you everything" kind of single player.

Now, Heres the other issue with most reviews. They keep referring to the end game as a grind...DUH!!!! Thats the point!!! the game is over, now its time to do those rep grinds, get legendary loot, and go kill raids. thats how MMOs are. yah dingus!

all in all, the game was great. it still is, its taking up all the time i have to game and much more. Im finding myself eating in front of the tv slowly so i can play. I give it an 8/10 due to its flaws which are ever so pointed out in others reviews.

People were expecting this to be the best game ever made. The problem is they were wrong to think that was possible with such an early next gen release. It is however a very good game which I want to go back and play, with fantastic graphics, shooting mechanics and lots to do.

I am thoroughly addicted, and even with the constant stream of goals I'm trying to work on each and every night, I still find myself getting lost in the sheer fun of the gunplay mechanics and hoping for a hectic public event to appear on the horizon. The world is beautiful, lovingly designed, and I can't get enough. Even the simple act of moving through the world is a gameplay joy that few other games can match. These are the basic truths that the negative reviews are missing - did Destiny have even more potential? Sure. Is it still a better game than most? Absolutely.

The negativity you hear stems from a few things which I will try to address:

    1. The over-hyped expectations of individuals. This can't be helped, but it does help to remember what Destiny is and is not. It is a shooter with more to do than just competitive multiplayer. If that appeals to you at all, then you will love this game. If you wanted World of Warcraft in space, or No Man's Sky with guns, this is not that game. But it is one of the best darn shooters out there.

    2. Very little storyline. Despite plenty of story missions, it is true that Destiny fails at trying to tell its story. I think this is simply because they thought too far ahead, and intended to piecemeal out the story a little at a time across all their future expansions. They probably should have shown us all the epic storyline they could come up with right off the bat, and worry about writing more later. But, that's not to say that their worldbuilding isn't fantastic - they have all the elements for a great world and a great story, they just tried to be mysterious about it for the entire game. This was a mistake, but I still enjoy their world and its factions, even if only by sensing their unexpressed potential.

    3. The grind. After level 20, you have to start thinking about how you play the game and what you want to achieve for your character. This confuses some people and puts them off, but I think it is actually handled rather cleverly, and every night I have left the game feeling satisfied with my accomplishments. Leveling past 20 isn't simply a matter of finding your favorite farming location and killing the same stuff over and over; that won't work. You begin having to balance the different types of play modes, and inevitably find that your play session squeezed a surprising amount of variety out of the existing content (within your personal preference - you can get the same results whether you prefer PvE or PvP, which is a huge selling point for me). The PvE Strike playlist randomizes, for instance, ensuring that no one can pick the most exploitable one and replay it for endless grind; Bounties change daily and Daily/Weekly missions find ways to reuse Story missions with modified enemies and gameplay modifiers. Basically, this all means that while you will replay the same content throughout the endgame, Bungie has found every possible way to creatively mix up and reuse that content in new ways to keep you busy. (far better than most competitive shooters, where all you EVER play are the same maps over and over). So there is a grind, but it's the best-handled grind I've seen. Hopefully it will continue to improve even more (special events have already begun to demonstrate this).

Destiny is fun. Destiny is well made. Destiny will keep you up late at night. If those are your expectations of a good game, and you measure it against other games out there in the genre, you won't be disappointed.

    Halo? RPG? In your dreams.

    Here are the issues:

    - repetitive, numbing game play and mechanics (what you do in the first 5 minutes of game play is what you do on a continuous loop for the rest of the game).

    - 3 character classes that are basically all the same (and feature customization which is irrelevant because your face is covered the entire game).

    - Constant reuse of maps which are very basic to begin with.

    - Also, your Mass Effect is showing, Bungie designers. There are blatant rip offs of creatures (800lb. war hungry planet destroying heavies anyone?), weapons and mechanics. If you're going to rip something off, then you could at least put a new spin on it. Don't reanimate a dead game into a bad version of itself.

    - There are literally two plots in the main game: 1) Go here and stand by a thing and defend your droid while he decrypts the thing so you can go to a new thing. 2) Go down a dark hole and have a repetitive boss fight.

Re: story and character. I've completed the game and still don't exactly know what it was about. And I was attentive. Listening, watching every cut scene. It's apparent that little attention was paid to narrative which means no drama and cliche dialogue throughout.

Please tell me why you'd book a start like Peter Dinkledge and then do zero performance cap with him, relegating him to delivering exposition that would have been robotic even if he wasn't playing a robot.

Re: multiplayer. Forget it. Seems cool to roam around killing creatures with strangers but it gets old fast (especially when the respawn points are all the same). Even if you want to grind to level up, forget it. I was artificially stopped at lvl 19 because the game forces you to complete a plot and stop at level 20 until other criterion are met. Essentially, devoted players are handicapped.

Player vs. player multiplayer was fun insofar as it reminded me of Quake meets COD but it's nothing new and doesn't feature considered game design. Uneven player matching makes it more frustrating than your average online ganked n00b experience.

Don't buy this. Buy a pretty poster of the game art (which is wonderful). If you must buy it to see for yourself, wait a day or two. There will be a flood of used games on the market, including mine.

They've also put such an emphasis on the dropping and looting system, which is absolutely and fundamentally broken. It just doesn't work. Spending hours just to get a blue or purple drop, only to encrypt it and it give you a strange coin or a green chest piece is a complete waste of time. So I've had a few weeks playing this game, I haven't done the raid, but I feel I know the game pretty well at this stage.

Firstly I can understand all the negative reviews, but any score between 1-5 can be summarily written off as some form of message to their perceived disappointment, and not a particularly good indication of the game itself. This is not a 1-5 game, the game plays exceptionally well, and has no bugs i've come into contact with. Whilst the story isn't great, it does open up a world of possibilities. However, the mission structures are poor, and the campaign is little more than a 6 out of 10, so I completely understand those scores.

That said I haven't stopped playing destiny since launch, I haven't played anything else during that time despite having several other unfinished games. The game goes beyond the campaign, people say it's grinding but I haven't really found that. The Co-op strikes are a lot of fun and in the higher difficulties pose a real challenge. The events mix things up a little and have new modifiers on old missions that make them interesting to play again (although some new ones would be nice). The Crucible is also a lot of fun, and i haven't found much in the way of unbalanced play, obviously the lower levels are at a slight disadvantage but if they're skilled they will own just as much as the higher levels, the gear and skills will never make a poor player good (unfortunately for me at least). It is however a little limited in options. But the Co-op missions, crucible, exotic bounty missions, randomly finding ship blu prints, public instances etc.... All of these things come together to make a game that is well beyond the initial poor campaign.

Some people have asked why they should play the game for so long to get to the real game, that isn't really the case it's all the real game it's just some parts are more fun than others. Should the campaign have been a lot better? Yes! It was distinctly average. Should there be more mission variety, yes! This seems extremely lazy from the developers and I hope to see the under utilised vehicles and characters used to better effect in the future. That said these are things that stop it from becoming a great game, it is as it stands a very good one with some minor annoyances. You may not like this game at all, but it isn't a bad game and it has some moments that cannot really be found better anywhere else, so for that reason it comes in as an 8 for me.

I fell for the hype train and in the cold light of day, this game whilst mechanically sound, has fell short of the epic it proposes to be.

It was a bold claim, dare I say audacity to claim that this would be up there with Lord of the Rings and Star Wars for its story and longevity.

As I said previously, mechanically its a sound game, but then again let us be honest, its Halo mechanics, story wise however it is very poor with a high degree or repackaged repetition. It relies to heavily on a grimoire external to the game itself, if people have to leave your game to get the story, unfortunately from a design perspective, that constitutes a failure in my book. If you put old and new games (Halo and Destiny) side by side I would choose Halo.

Looking back I would not have bought this in the cold light of day, I think I made myself believe the Beta was a small sliver of something huge, sadly its the entire game near enough, and only the background changes.

MP is fast paced but unfortunately the class powers do not balance overly well as you do not get the cohesive units working together like you can in a strike, hence certain class powers which work in concert and defence are overshadowed by one hit guns and cloaking.

I feel that another AAA game has been a disappointment and in 2014 I am still waiting for the big AAA to appear fulfilling its promises. This year has been a better one for smaller studios who have kept the corporate mind-set well away from their creation.

    Thanks for reading.

The game has 28 missions which take a while to beat and then you'll want to beat again with a better challenge and to get more loot. Compare that to another shooter like Metro that get's review scores of 8-8.5 from users and critics and it really makes the game look bad even though a game like Metro has less content when you think about because it's just missions. Sure the story isn't great either but does story really matter in a game these days? When was the last time you really cared about story when playing a shooter MMO? Most people just go in for the side quests or progress so they can get better bosses to get better loot off of them. People came in with to many expectations for it. So by no means is it a bad and it doesn't deserve a bad score. It's a great game that you can either enjoy or not like. I've had a recent experience like this with GTA Online. Everyone loves it but my experience is a 5-6/10 but it really isn't 5-6. It's great and deserves 8. I'm gonna stop ranting now and give my actual thoughts about the game. If you couldn't tell I've been enjoying it a lot. Teaming up with friends in a video game hasn't been this fun for since Black Ops 1 Zombies for me. Unfortunately I can't say the same for those who don't have friends which unfortunately is a lot of people and I know because I tried playing by myself. I felt like missions just became a bit to challenging and not in a good way. It could boring and frustrating at some points. Difficulty level should change if playing solo or playing with friends. Also like I said the story really isn't to good. It feels like there isn't any at all. It felt like a chapter of something bigger and it didn't even feel like there was a protagonist. There were just bosses you could take it. At some point you may think "Why am I fighting these guys? What did they do to me?" The enemy has no character which is a big problem. However I still found the missions to be fun. I enjoyed the strike missions a lot but I do feel like they could have added more also give out more rewards for doing them. The reward system in my opinion isn't so great. You could go through a strike or mission and get no engrams and rare loot that is below your level and you'll just ask yourself "What was the point of that?" The reward system is especially terrible in crucible. You could be the best player on your team and those under you will get legendary loot. It's flat out unfair and annoying. However that doesn't mean it isn't fun. Crucible is one of the most fun modes in the game and plays a big role when getting faction legendary gear which you may be better off with than trying to get legendary engrams. So to conclude the review Destiny is not as bad as people say it is. It can be annoying yes and maybe not enjoyable but the game play is very fun and addicting and you can spend hours upon hours on it and in the end of the day how you enjoy a game could make it not matter if the story is bad or short. If you have fun then it's a good game. Expand

Now for the con's: repetitive levels, underdeveloped story, constant internet connection to play, and unoriginal gameplay mechanics. Everyone should have realized from the very beginning that Destiny was going to be Halo with Call of Duty mechanics and a Mass Effect art style. And saying a game is bad because it borrows aspects from other games is unfair. Many popular game franchises start off as rip-offs, but that doesn't mean they're bad games. Saints Row was originally a rip off of GTA, PS Allstars was a rip off of SSB, and Unreal Tournament a rip off of Quake. But all of those were still very good games. Destiny may not deliver on it's promises and hype, but it's still a fun, immersive, challenging, beautiful, and overall very entertaining game. Although it may fall short of it's potential, I still enjoy playing and will continue to do so as it is supported with DLC in the future. This game brings nothing new to the table other than jaw dropping visuals and a excellent music score.

The game however is a empty shell that is very repetitive, and honestly not worth the end game grind.

Its painfully obvious the game was stripped down in order for the users to buy DLC, though Bungie/Activision will never admit it.

    =============

I expected more from fathers of epic Halo franchise. Destiny fails to introduce its great universe to player. Storyline is really poorly narrated. Gameplay-wise, game is addictive, but aside from farming to obtain legendary loot, there's nothing to keep me playing. Overall, story mode feels like introduction before main events in game world, disk 1 out of 4, like back in FFVIII times))) But unfortunately there's no disks 2,3 and 4. I think dev team wasted potential of this great universe they created.

Ok, I understand that the focus of Destiny it's the multiplayer, I mean... I THINK IT IS.. because same after play several hours, the history of the game continues so vague as was in the very beginning.
PVP it is the best part of the game, have its moments of fun, but the overall experience in my opinion, is which the game is very unbalanced.
After play some matches on PS4, I came back to my PS3 to play Killzone 3, where I had a VERY better experience.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Great shooter that can be completed in 9 hours or so. Multiplayer is simple and satisfying. that said it grossly misrepresents what it is, It has progressive up to level 20 which you might reach during the story campaign. Beyond that lies arcane leveling system that emphasizes random loot farming repetitive quests grinding and pseudo MMO social aspect (With no chat nor trading allowed) Current grind to experience the Raid content is balanced to drag on with convoluted currency, faction reputation requirements and a weird loot system that is there for little else than a forced slowdown of your progress to elongate the end game's otherwise paltry amount of content.

If you are looking for a game to play with 3 friends co-op this is really good for a short while. If you are looking for a more involved experience prepare to be underwhelmed by shallow interaction beyond the shooting and arbitrary systems of progress. Definitely not a game with a 10 year appeal or content at this point. It might improve with more money in it in the form of DLC over time but what doesn't improve with more money? It is hard to see where they spent 500 million dollars beyond the nice graphics and music. For example GTA 5 had tons of content, music and the graphics were top notch too and did it with half the money. Perhaps most of it went to marketing because it is a good game but nothing revolutionary or new at all.

Bungie will add more to this game i'm sure as this is their 10 year project. No doubt you will have to pay for these expansions but I think that they will add more to the "RPG" elements and add to the story in its self. I pray (like everyone else) that some of these story expansions will be free, if not, cheaper than the rest. But other then that the game is quite satisfying to play most of the time. I would recommend this game but only if the price goes down since their will be a lot of expansion purchasing. A few grindy parts in the gameplay here and there but other than that I enjoyed it. The graphics are incredible and smooth. The playability feels great. The story, meh OK so you have me there. The difficulty is awesome because it makes you work for what you get. The character customization leaves something to be desired but since you only look at your toon while in tower, I could care less. I like the fact that there is no chat. No need to worry about people linking their abilities followed/preceded by "anal". No trolling, spamming none of that nonsense. One thing I will say that is frustrating beyond all description is how blues and purples decode to greens. If you want those items to be rare, fine but manage that by the drop rate. The PvP seems pretty unbalanced but IMO, PvP in an MMO-ish game is pointless. I know some people love it but it's not my thing.

    Now for the rant...

I can't see why there is so much hatred for this game. Oh wait, I remember, all the kiddos that are used to the instant gratification provided by worthless excuses for video games like WoW. I'm so sorry Bungie won't give everyone purple gear on their first run. I guess it's because you got a trophy for riding the pine in little league. This game is difficult, which makes it enjoyable for true gamers.

There were several times where me or my buddies would literally say "woah" or "that's pretty cool" just from the detailed skylines and backdrops alone.

Regardless of your feelings for Destiny specifically, I would urge you to support gaming companies like Bungie and Activision who take huge financial risks to take on projects like this, on a scope never before seen, in hopes that they can give gamer's something new and amazing. Even if you happen to think they swung and missed on a certain game. Companies like EA have become borderline criminal in the way they cost cut and strip down games and servers while using misleading marketing and hype to swindle that next $70 from you. Reward the guys who take the chance, and stop giving your money to the guys who shovel you the bare minimum and spoon feed you micro transactions.

I did not have sky high expectations regarding this game as I played beta and knew how it will play more or less - games nowadays don't really change from beta versus final product...it seems to be part of marketing plan.

First thing I noticed, after buying the game soon after the release, was advertisement of expansion packs from day1 - this was the first warning message as I know what it smells like (LITE version of the product with DLCs which multiple the price of the final product by 4.
But heck, if the game is really cool, I can survive that (have quite some experience with MMORPG products that follow the same route).

So to give you an idea on my feelings after playing bit beta:
Shooting felt satisfying, graphis were nice and the idea of online pve shooter in Sci-fi environment sounded plausible. After an hour or two sessions during the beta, I felt bit bored and always went back to other games I had. Game looked polished, shooting was fine, but it was just missing something which is not easy to describe with one particular word - it felt like a shooter mix with a little bit of other games, without actual good plan on how to put things together to give players a feeling of a complete product.
    - You do have Tower as a base, but I kind of assumed there will be few of those and they will be full of life and interaction once the game goes life.
    - There are different missions and areas on the planet, but you basically start from same point and go little bit further or turn once different direction for smaller area which is designed for this particular mission.
    - Other players are on the same map, but you cannot communicate with them unless they are in your fireteam and they might be basically doing some other mission or patrol in similar area, so wont help you much in your duty.
    - weapons have stats and slightly different looks, but we've seen them all and they look more like from game set in 2020 than production set long long time in the future.
    - there are skills but I did not really feel any diversity between classes

Those were my few points I noticed after some hours with Beta, hoping that there is some more as lvl cap was 20 and I reached only lvl 6 and was on the first planet. After all shooting as a core was done very well!

So I bought the game with hope that the full version has some more to offer than I already saw.
Indeed there were more planets, the story went further (so I assume from poping up notifications to visit website), I leveled higher and improved my character.
Problem is, it felt like "mishmash" and that the Beta had everything the full game has to offer.

I tried to follow the story, but the missions were so uninspiring that I forgot what the story is about very fast. With nice cinematics at the beginning of the journey, you would expect some nice cutscenes implemented in the game. Missions are always the same... and I don't think the word "same" is exaggeration. You go to spot B, deploy ghost who does some decoding, etc. while he works you defeat few waves of enemies, go to another spot and defeat level boss with minions. boss fights are always the same - kill minions, jump out, hit boss weak spot and hide again to regenerate.
I haven't played engame, as after reading that it is just same strikes I have just been to and doing them on higher level (which means more hp of enemies), I decided it is not my style of grinding.

Communication and feeling of belonging to a community in this game is made very bad, in my opinion. Unless community is considered as a fireteam created with friends from PSN, then Bungie did heck of a job to prevent getting to know new folks and have fun together. Biggest flaws I find are little amount of people in Tower you can meet, no chat even though console supports external keyboard. There is also no trading with other players or any clan/guild functionality.

Other issue is loot and its variety. There are few types of weapons but they are not really inspiring weapons. Shotgun looks like a shotgun, rifle like a rifle. Weapons have different stats and colours, but I have not noticed much of a difference between the look of weapon on lvl 3 till end of the game.

Games I have played with focus on loot grinding were more enjoyable, but have to say that some of them started also from the wrong foot and improved as the game developed, which might be the case for Destiny's destiny.

The game had some nice moments, like first strikes which I attended were quite fun and had this feeling of a relief after clearing the last boss. However, after doing it for a while, it lost fun factor and I had to force myself to clear them, which should not be the case.

Please note that I did not have friends to play with, so I either played alone or strikes with PUG.
I guess the experience enhances with few good folks you can have fun with, but well, I didn't buy into this game enough to keep it for months on the shelf to see how company develops it

The pvp is boring after the first hour and has broken mechanics. The promise of this being an rpg pvp is false. Again, in case I did not stress it enough:

Not a bad game. Shallow and short with a weak story and dull missions. Repetitive, overly long boss fights that require little more than ducking in and out of cover to take a shot or two.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
