Absolutely fantastic game in so many areas. Story feels shallow at first but allows for lots of speculation, especially with the depth of the grimoire cards you unlock. PVP is balanced and quite fun, PVE is a bit grindy at first but once you unlock things like Nightfalls and Raids the normal 'strike grind' feeling disappears. Overall, 10/10, got what I was expecting and more.

Is this game over-hyped? Yes, but let's be serious. This is a great looking game with near perfect UI and IS a different game at level 20. (I reached 20 a few days ago). The criticism is more overblown than the games.

Well after getting to level 18. I've decided to give this game a 6.5. Nothing fantastic but some goo qualities. online pvp and pve is enjoyable. Story is non-existent. game play is usually smooth. graphics are good. nothing revolutionary. over all okay but way too over hyped and very repetitive.

Invest in something else, this game is not worth your money. I've played the game since day one, and tried to give it time to see if it improved over the course of playing it.
It did not. I made an account solely because of poor this game was (I guess I'll review Titanfall too). Mark my words, the game will swindle you with additional content, because that is the only way they can

    [-] "Shared-world shooter"
The game was described as a "shared-world shooter". This is a marketing term because Bungie doesn't even know what it is. The only world you "share" is The Tower. You can't talk to anyone there, you can't interact with anyone in any way except through four gestures which do not convey any real meaning. This place exists only for the shops, which could all have been handled through menus to spare me another loading screen (IT ALWAYS LOADS). I have a feeling this level was put in just to make the game qualify as "shared world".

    [-] Interaction with others
In order to talk to anyone, they must be in your fireteam, and half the time they don't talk anyways. I get the impression that people have been so used to the quiet that they don't think they can talk at all, thus they don't wear mics. If this game is so "shared-world", why is there no proximity chat? You can't market a game this way and not put in this CRUCIAL feature. If you are so hell-bent on FireTeams, why make it so difficult to invite people to yours? Unless you have friends who you are already chatting with, you must find a random player you want to invite, click on their name with the thumbstick, interact with them, and invite them to your fireteam. Chances are by the time you've finished this needlessly laborious process, the person will have left.

    [-] Story
...what is it? I've unlocked various planets and supposedly done several story related things, except I don't know what they are or why I should even care. I have no idea what's going on, the story is delivered poorly and there is no emotional attachment to any of the characters. I'm apparently brought back to life by a "ghost"? What is "The Darkness"? Why do they want "The Traveler"? Why is the only name you can think of for the defensive tower of Earth "The Tower"? Why are there two different kinds of enemies? Are they working together?

The story is one of the worst aspects of this game by far.

    [-] Level design
The game is further marred by its poor level design. Why are there all these caverns on the Moon that are empty? There are no side places to explore at all, and everything feels stale (and gray). You realize quickly how repetitive the game is when the next mission takes place on the same map as the previous one, except they open a small new part of it.
This is somehow supposed to be "new"?! If only 5% of the map is new, then it isn't a new level design, you just removed an invisible wall (and they are everywhere by the way). This company received half a billion dollars in budget and they couldn't even design a decent level?! And forget "open world", this game is as linear as possible - wander too far and you'll just die or run into an invisible wall.

    [-] Enemy design
The enemies are located in the same place, all the time. If you die you have to fight them all again, and let me tell you how this fight is bound to work: You fire a few rounds, the enemy teleports away, shoots you with their powerful weapon, and then you have to hide and build up your shield. Rinse and repeat: shoot, hide, shoot, hide. This is not how you design an enemy. Some enemies even have fancy titles, like "Sakrion, Nexus Mind"; it's too bad I have no idea how he is related to the story at all.

    [-] Matchmaking
So let's say you try out the PvP aspect, you'll notice immediately that you are paired with players who are twice your level or more. Why? There is no possible way that can be fair - of course the level 20 will win against the level 10. He's unlocked the subclass, a more powerful weapon, more powerful melee moves, etc.
This is not how you do matchmaking, you will be spending most of your time being frustrated at how you can't last more than a second in the face of these overly powerful enemies. You should be matched with people closer to your level, because that way there is a more even playing field.

    [-] Leveling
This game forces you to do PvP, no other way around it. Simply playing the overly-repetitive story missions won't cut it, you will end up leveling too slow for how the missions progress.

    [-] Loot
I keep getting loot in this game for no discernible reason at all. 99% of the loot is worse than what I'm already wearing by a fair amount, even the ones I find in chests. Why am I being given this? I can't sell it to my knowledge, it just takes up inventory space and I have to dismantle it.

I'm about to hit the limit, so let me add this: It loads all the time, and you'll look like everyone else until level 20.

Aside from the graphics I was mesmerized by the ambiance and the soundtrack and how they really made it immersive without menus and interruptions. I noticed that most of the missions involved reaching a goal and surviving waves of enemies. They don't have the greatest AI ever written but they are definitely a challenge playing solo. I felt thoroughly stressed and panicked in particularly hard no-respawn zones but winning always felt like a bit of a rush, sort of like dark souls 2.

The multiplayer was frustrating when I played because I really did not understand the capabilities of human players. Often I was just a casualty of some super charged attack that I couldn't have seen coming, or players would kill me in one hit. It seemed very similar to the halo series on the multiplayer, but much smaller. I really like the customization of appearance and gear, even though they balance it in MP.

Overall I feel like it is a pretty great game. For those of you who seem disappointed, they are more than likely to address your concerns in future expansions / sequels to Destiny. For example the first halo games were definitely not perfect, but they improved gradually until it became a masterpiece.

I don't understand why so many people are mad about the poor story line in the game. The story is nothing to write home about, but at the same time I feel like they did it just right. The lore of the world is there if you want to find it, but otherwise the focus is entirely on the game-play. There isn't some complicated nonsense being shoved down your throat at all times so you can focus on what a video game should be about, the gameplay.

The shooting mechanics are spot on, although the missions will get repetitive. There is mainly one type of mission... Go to this point, deploy ghost, fight off enemy waves. And as for the end game, if you are not a fan of grinding the same instances for gear DO NOT buy this game or you will not have fun (unless the competitive multiplayer interests you of course).

Pros: Beautiful game, great shooting mechanics (That is what the game is all about of course) and awesome loot system.

Cons: Lack of character development, HORRID loading times, Tons of grinding and a disappointingly short story campaign (needs more planets).

Overall I would give this game an 7/10. It is a good game, but it has its issues. Everyone who calls this out as over-hyped obviously knows nothing about marketing for a company... I would say that after more content has been released the reviews and opinions for this game will change. As of right now, Destiny is a solid foundation that needs some building on before it will be what it strives to be.

PS: I rated the game a 7/10 but gave it a 10/10 on the site simply to spite of all the negative reviews that lack any sense of constructive criticism.

I'm amazed at how safe and basic launch content is. Couple this with zero basic grouping features and the tower becomes ironically the loneliest place on earth.

Perhaps in 2 years we will see this game in a more content rich vein but the lowest common denominator gameplay needs desperate attention. Every encounter is dead in the water due basic mob behaviour.

Probably has the thinnest story in video games. Incoherent afterthought sums it up.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Destiny, a game that my brother was so hyped up on. The leveling system for the classes are great, it like having the ability to switch to a different style of fighting which I find unique in it own way as well with the gear having a special attribute that you level up by killing npc enemies, the npc fighting pattens may seem pretty mediocre but they also have the ability to overwhelm the players, forcing them to actually retreat rather then charging in like a bull in a china shop. Many would say that it is a boarderland and halo joint together but what they didn’t have is players joining in mid fights, special events that allow you to work together for a common goal which is why I like it.

Now here comes my part that made me have a dislike for the game. The pvp, basic shooting, snipers, campers, overpowered vehicles, now all that is cool but what got me was the players ability to use the super abilities that can literally AoE one shot a flag group, one shot a player no matter where you aim at the body. A player is tested by skill, accurate precision shooting, flanking the enemy to get them by surprise and head shots which we all love to bits but the one addition thing that I do like was the ammo caches for your shotgun, fusion rifles and sniper bullets but did they really need to add tracking on it. It made it too easy for campers to kill unexpected enemies to simply press square and be head shotted by a sniper as you are trying to get special ammo or heavy ammo.

The story, well I liked it so far but I do believe that the story is smashed up into pieces like a broken mirror. The interact with the ghost and the player seems pretty dull, the missions seem pretty repetitive, kill, kill and oh yeah more kill. Also it would had more better if they had placed old vehicles in the battlefield rather then being able to summon a ride to anywhere, players like to be dumbfound by finding something pretty awesome like a old car, or bike but a hover bike that you can just summon seem like we giving the players less work. Also the grimoire that you collect should be put into like a journal as such to gain information is to access your ghost in-game not out game which is where it can annoy players who like information handed to them with ease then having to log in to a website.

Story a bit flat but doesn't ruin game. Ultimately overhyped but it does not make it a bad game. Probably a bit of an identity crisis ruining expectations.

Destiny is a new type game. It is not right to call it an MMO or an FPS and comparing it in this way is wrong. From my play with it so far (just coming up to level 15) it feels like an FPS with extra widgets and applications added that draw inspiration from MMO style games. I also don't think you will find this much content available in the vast majority of FPS titles.

Personally, I think its a fantastic achievement, but lets go into more detail.

    Presentation
Nobody can claim that this isn't a beautiful game. The polish, from the environments to the finer details on the armour is magnificent and a sight to behold. There are some minor issues (different armour/weapons can bug on cutscenes) but otherwise the visuals are stunning

    Gameplay
This is where Destiny shines. It was to be expected from Bungie but every element of the gameplay is slick and engrossing. The controls are logical, animations are smooth and you feel in control of everything you do (getting on your vehicle is smooth as butter). There is a good variety of weapons (for an FPS game) and grenades/supercharge powers add tactical elements to combat. While there isn't anything new to the formula here, everything works perfectly and playing through Destiny has never felt like a chore.

    Story
Not the strongest point of Destiny. The story is pretty generic but interesting enough to keep you involved. It is let down ultimately by stale story missions, where they do become a bit repetitive after a while. It was also an odd choice to put so much of the story in "Grimoire cards" making them less accessible.

    Raids/Strikes/Exploring
On top of the 15 hour or so campaign there is also exploring the planet. This is interesting to an extent (high level bosses, loot) but it is mostly the same areas as the story mission. Raids and Strikes however are extremely fun. 3-6 teams must beat large hordes of enemies and difficult boss battle. Are they bullet sponges? Yes, but the difficulty is high enough to make it engaging and interesting.

    Difficulty
I think this is often overlooked when looking at this game. I have never felt overly comfortable at any point while playing the game. And I have died a lot during the strike/raid missions. This keeps it exciting and keeps you on your toes throughout playing the game

    Multiplayer
There are two parts to this. Firstly, you can play in fireteams doing any mission in the game, during any raid or just exploring. Destiny is immensely fun with a friend. Better still, if you have a higher level friend join, the enemies are made that bit tougher so not to overwhelm you but not to make it too easy for your friend

Secondly, the PvP. The crucible is a bit bare bones at the moment, and there are some balancing issues. Thus it is fun. So so fun. Because all the gameplay mechanics are so highly polished you can jump right in and have a ball. Does need to be fleshed out a bit more though.

    -The voice acting isn't perfect
-In my opinion, there is no Grind. Grinding implies effort and boredom. I have not felt this while playing this game
    -Overhyped

    Verdict
This is only the beginning of the Destiny journey. There is already a massive amount to do in the game, not to mention endless PvP and, if you don't focus too much on the few minor issues, you can have an incredible amount of fun. Ludicrous amounts of fun. And, ultimately, isn't that what we play video games for?

Destiny is a really fun multiplayer shooter. I love what Bungie has create. Sure there is some end-content missing and also the story is not so epic like the halo stuff. But the music, the coop is perfect. I had so many funny and enjoyable moments and that after only 1 week ;)
Give the publisher some time to deliver us with more content. I don't think that it is all what they have planed.

Al those fast low rated critic reviews are based on the story missions and a couple of crucible games, but there is NO WAY they could have ever played every class and subclass until level 30 with all light gear and stuff, let alone playing the raids.

I think Destiny became a victim of the hype, everyone comparing it to a World of Warcraft type of FPS, naming it an MMO, and even though I would have loved it if that would be the case, Bungie named it an open world shooter, and that’s what it is. A wonderful world to explore. A game with a beautiful soundtrack and visuals. It feels so good to shoot in this game, I can’t compare it to any other FPS I have ever played.

The available content in this game is enough to keep you busy for long time… I often wonder what do to next. Shall I do another mission on level 20 of 24, or do I want to do another strike. Maybe a crucible match.. control? Clash? Will I be doing these stuff as a Hunter, Warlock or Titan, will I be trying another subclass etc etc etc.. so much to do and try, I’ll won’t be playing another game anytime soon.

Only downside for me is the “invisible walls” this game has, for example; There are places you can’t jump on, even though you know you could easily made a jump to it, the invisible wall won’t let you do it.
Still… If I had to pick one word for this game it would be “crisp”.

Overall, this game is a lot of fun, whether you'll be playing it co-op with your friends or as a lone wolf.

Just look at WoW's patchnotes after the 11.11.2004 release, a game like this is being build in time, dont expect it to be the "final" version at release. For me WoW's "final" version comes with every new xpac.

Another thing, i've played BF, COD and those games are made for the multiplayer purpose, any of those games have a very limited time of campaign (good/bad it doesn't matter since the core of the game stands in the multiplayer). Look at the most beloved Dragon Age, a beautiful story, with no multiplayer ... why do you think its like that ?

Destiny's core stands in the multiplayer, PVP/STRIKES/RAIDS, so judge it from that PoV. Long grinding endgame ?!?! (well wtf Diablo and WoW and all other games on the planet are then ?).

For the moment I love the game, since it feels more casual then WoW is and that fits me just fine.

But I found the game to be addicting to the point were I would only stop if my body told me too. It might be because I was playing with friends all the time so we wanted to get to show off. But that also brings me to another point. This game was made to play with friends. If you are going to be a loner, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! You will be bored within the first two weeks. This is an FPS, RPG game NOT AN MMO. We all know this so don't call it an MMO.
Campaign: So the campaign is very short, about 8-10 hours if you play multiplayer and then go on to missions. It is much of a boring campaign and a boring story, no cliff hangers or nothing to look to but the end. When you beat the game all you get is a gun..... That is it. It is a 5/10 very boring and grindy.
Multiplayer: So this is what this game was made for in my opinion. Very fast paced multiplayer if playing on the smaller maps. Can be really fuging fun if you going HAM on noobs, but if not, it is a very bad time in your life. People who play this game are very stupid and do not get how to play the gamemode or how important flags are. They are always bad teammates on your team when you play solo. But one thing that is cool that all the gear you get in Campaign goes to multiplayer. It is balanced so you won't get pooped on in that way. There is a game mode for that. Like a regular FPS you got a fasted paced game with the add-ons of super's which are like you special killstreak for the class you play. These add a lot of fun to the game but they are very annoying when you get spammed with them. The Hunter class is the best by far in PVP which they need to fix.
So in all this game is a 8/10 - 4/5 for me. As a fan of cod and of Halo 2 - Halo:Reach this game is fun and addicting for those Diablo players and CoD players. Halo fans will hop on the train too with Bungi making a game and not 343 studios. (Halo 4 sucked) So if you liked fasted paced games, and games were you put in the time you get the bigger dime ;) then you will like this game. Since so much is in the game it is just better if you play it for a week straight and if you do not like it by the end then just return the damn thing and move on with life. :D

With that said thus far I really love the gameplay, the loot aspects, the rpg elements, the world-building and the customisation.

However, I am finding a lack of story. If you actually take the time to get the companion app and read the Grimoire cards then it all gets fleshed out a lot, which did make me wonder why all of this content was not put to greater use throughout the "story" aspect of the game.

I have found that I have really been drawn to the competitive and co-op aspects of the game to such a degree that I actually dislike doing anything alone, which sounds bad but as someone who usually insists on playing alone, this is an indication of just how fun Bungie has made playing Destiny with others.

I am really interested to see how they build on this fun and solid foundation in the coming few months and maybe years. I just hope they can bring the story to life a little more so I can really care about the characters and the world.

The online aspects really shine through for me. I love playing with others on strike missions and these missions are seriously tough which is really refreshing. The Crucible has also been great fun for me and really gets the adrenaline pumping. I am very new to the PvP area though and I appreciate that the character I play without outside the Crucible - with his guns and skills - is the same one I take into each fight.

This means I don't have to fiddle with loadouts and what not and I can see what works and what doesn't and what I need to practice outside of the Crucible. I can also see what guns people own me with and try and get my hands on those bad boys.

    So all in all:
    - the game is really beautiful and probably the best world I have seen brought to life in a game (on Ps4 at least);
    - the gameplay is really fun and the game systems (loot, co-op, PvP) have kept me addicted;
    - difficulty wise the game is a real challenge and can be as much or as little challenge as needed;
    - the story is fairly disappointing.

I would definitely recommend. We may all get to see how a gaming world grows over a span of years, which would be truly groundbreaking stuff.

Destiny certainly feels like a meld of great games I've played in the past, which may seem like a good thing. Unfortunately, I found myself simply wanting to play those games and not Destiny.

As I said, I really wanted to like this game, and had high hopes with the first hour. Concerns began to creep in when I realized I was routinely fending off waves of enemies while my Ghost scanned or hacked objects. Went to the Moon, Venus, and Mars. The only change I saw were the enemies I had to incessantly mow down.

I've since sunken in dozens of hours and currently sit at level 24. I just cannot take the grind anymore as the monotonous nature of the game only magnifies it. Killing bosses is not at all rewarding, literally. They almost never drop any significant loot. They're incredibly static fights that simply require you to shoot the weak spot for 5-10 minutes while fending off waves of lesser enemies.

Perhaps time will fix some of the issues I have with the game. But there are also issues with the game that I don't think can just be "patched" in.

For now, I have to go with a 6/10. It's not a bad game by any means... it's just not very good at this point.

Well because the game is fun to play, and has a lot of potential but is lacking story characters and player chat like in other MMO games. The gameplay is superb, and the graphics are very crisp. Let me just point out. I played the Beta, and Earth is still the same Earth, so if you leave a review you need to play at least till end of Moon to have a credible review as that is when the game starts to get good.

And the weapons feel great. The shooting is fun, and frantic and I appreciate the challenging gameplay. The game is not easy, but gives just enough challenge for an average gamer. I wish maybe a more variety in weapons, but I am sure they will add more variety later. The game is basically a very polished beta at this time. So do not expect much. World of Warcraft didn't even have raids the first year. These guys plan to release a raid pretty soon. People expecting the best game every made will not get it right away. First you gotta level up. Get some good weapons, then hit the end game. That is when the actual fun begins. I hate leveling myself too. I mean who can actually admit they enjoy leveling up? Maybe gearing up, but not grinding. Destiny does have leveling, but not as much as other roleplaying games. They want you to experience the game, without having to level to 60. Think about it.

Also to the people who complain about this game being online only. Welcome to 2014. A lot of things these days require a stable broadband internet connection. Time to get with the times old folks used to playing single player games. The game is meant to feel like a persistent changing world. Don't judge the game by the first 20 hours of playing it and say it is too hard, when you are actually using the starting gear. When you get better gear, the game will get easier, so you will be able to tackle harder missions. All the people say the bosses take a long time to kill, think about it, you are using WOWs equivalent of Greens and Grays. You cannot kill anything with starting gear. You need to get some decent loot first before you can solo stuff.

To all the people complaining about the game not being able to have anyone to play with. I have like 50 people on my PSN friend list and I am incredibly antisocial, most of those people (friends) I met playing other Playstation games like Warframe. So to sum it up, don't complain you cannot make friends, just wave to someone and add them as a friend. You will be surprised how many people will join you on a quest or a strike in Destiny.

I haven't been playing a ton like some people; I saw some people nearing 20 on the first day. I've only been playing when I can steal the time and yet I've STILL managed to go beyond max cap in less than a week. I've done every single PVP map, every single Strike on all four Vanguard difficulties (18, 20, 22, 24), and, frankly, I've reached a point where I can't see a reason to play anymore. I'm sick of the same tired locales, sick of the same bullet sponge strike bosses who have NO strategy other than "point at person doing highest damage and launch instagib attack at them", and sick of the imbalanced mess that is called PVP (snipers, shotties, and specials, ho!). Like I said, I haven't been playing for several hours a day like some people have been and I can't see how they haven't lost their minds to this borefest.

Raids are coming soon but I can't figure why I should give a damn about raiding in Destiny at all. Story wise, there's no "big bad" I feel compelled to fight like there are in traditional MMOs. Gear wise, going from 26 to 30 in raid gear isn't going to make the content any more trivial because the content was trivial from the onset. We don't even know when or if another raid will be coming. So where's the incentive to spend hours on end raiding when existing legendary gear is already more than adequate to make the game utterly trivial? The forthcoming events aren't the same as content, they're just going to be events similar to what we saw with Halo and Waypoint where players will get mildly tweaked rewards for doing things within the EXISTING content. Other than Vault of Glass, which, technically, is already in game just not yet unlocked, all future game expanding content for Destiny WILL be locked behind a paywall and likely won't require previous raid level gear because they won't want to alienate or fragment their playerbase.

The lack of a coherent story, the lack of social elements, and the sheer repetition of the game - far worse than any current MMO on the market - is appalling. Also, since this seems to keep being brought up, anyone who says this game should be rated higher because it's "just like Diablo 3" are ignorant to the differences in genre. They're basing their comparison simply because both games have loot. Diablo 3 and Borderlands are dungeon crawlers. You aren't doing the dungeons in Diablo 3 over and over again to unlock a new tier of content. That's the difference. Destiny gates future content behind a slow gear grind like MMOs. To compare the two is utterly disingenuous. In one dungeon in Diablo, you'll return to town several times with bags full of gear; In one strike in Destiny, you'll be lucky if you see two to three useless greens and one uncommon blue at the end. Even if the comparison were remotely apt, Diablo 3 has more content in the FIRST TWO ACTS than Destiny does in the WHOLE GAME.

The sad reality is Destiny is a next-gen version of Defiance: Good combat system, but with a head-scratching story, convoluted leveling system, half-arsed public events, bland loot system, poorly designed social functions, horribly balanced PVP, lackluster early end game, and a developer with an inflated ego about how "groundbreaking" their game supposedly is. I suppose Destiny gets a bit better marks for having more than one map but I don't think it has that much more effective playing area.

If you can only afford one, buy Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition. Although it's a different sub-genre, Diablo 3 contains far more content, far more replayability, and a far more rewarding experience than Destiny. Redbox or GameFly Destiny, play it up till you've gotten a couple light levels, then take/send it back. You will have seen the whole package - a couple of times, no less - by doing so.

After playing about 48 hours I've come to the conclusion this game was unfinished and overhyped to the extreme. The multiplayer is unbalanced, dull, full of COD-tactic players (run and shoot even on Control) and shouldn't even be allowed in this kind of game.

Some of the dumbest excuses but my only complaints with the game is the story isn't as good as I would've expected and that the Crucible reward system isn't very "rewarding" to players that do good, for instance I'd finish MVP in a match and get no rewards whatsoever yet someone will finish last and get 2 rare items -____- but these are minor complaints and I'm sure Bungie can and will sort them out, but either than that I strongly recommend Destiny, very deserving of a rating of 8. ---The social aspect feels a little lacking, especially for a game which is essentially an MMO which is why I've given it a slightly lower rating. I do however enjoy the small group version of MMO. Rather than feeling forced to join a large guild to complete end game content I can play with my close group of friends in 3 man teams to knock out missions, and PVP.

---Overall I think the game is worth playing AT LEAST through level 20 and completing the story arc. And there's even more to do after getting there.

The game has good mechanics and is pretty, but overall is boring, repetitive, lifeless and offers nothing new to the genre. Not only that but the developer has the nerve to tell us that the game and fun doesn't really start until you hit the level cap.

Bungie has developed four Halo games that everyone loved and they received extremely high scores from critics. These games only had a couple of alien races as enemies. The games all consisted of tight shooting controls, great soundtracks, single player game play, cooperative game play, and competitive multiplayer. Destiny is designed to be like Halo with many more options in the hands of the players. Halo had zero character upgrade and development features. Halo did not have a loot system or armor and weapon customization like Destiny has. Halo campaigns were only around 8-12 hours long. Nobody ever complained about the length of Halo games, or the lack of story, or the lack of enemy types. Now with Destiny, everyone acts like they were promised a 100 hour RPG or MMO. What Bungie has done here is take the Halo formula we all love and added character customization, weapon and armor upgrades, a loot system and awesome matchmaking systems that allow players to group up in fireteams and play together when they want. Public events and strike missions also make exploring the over world much more enjoyable than a linear map with sandbox battles. Just like with the Halo games, Bungie has created an awesome shooter experience with more character advancement and play options than ever before. The controls are tight, the soundtrack is fantastic, and the matchmaking systems work very well for the new generation of games. All the critics need to go back and look at their very own Halo reviews, and figure out how they can possibly give Destiny a lower score when so many new options have been added. The only reasoning is that once again, everyone set their expectations way too high. Every now then you have to utilize some common sense and ask yourself about the "fun" factor. Is this game fun to play? In my opinion, it's the funnest game Bungie has ever developed, therefore I'm giving it a score that it actually deserves! Thanks Bungie, keep the content coming. Expand

-Story is bare bones(but can be fleshed out by reading grimoire cards at Bungie.net.)

Of course, these are my opinions on the game. The story being the only downside to an otherwise great game. I don't honestly think the game deserves a 10/10, but closer to a 8.5-9/10. I'm rating it a 10 to try to negate the absolutely garbage reviews giving this a 0/10.

To sum it all up. Buy this game. It's entertaining, and will only get better with the updates that Bungie will implement. This is an ever changing game, and just watching it evolve from Alpha, to Beta, to release has been a great experience.

Now I'm back to the moon to hunt some hive.

i have this very minute finished the game and i can assure you its a huge let down, i had to actually YouTube the ending to make sure it was the same thing as i just witnessed, its the same concept as every other. You get on your sparrow ride through, get to a gate deploy ghost, he does his business, fight some enemies, go through a gate, kill some more goblin robots, then you are presented with fighting 3 of the boss's (all seperately) with the yellow writing (you will know what i mean if youve played it) and they are the EXACT same as the boss's from the previous level and i think they are also EASIER to kill, once youve done that the mission ending timer counts down, you go back to the tower and speak to the speaker, he does a little speech , THATS IT, not even any end credits!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it is the EXACT same as every other boring level.

the only thing i like about the game is the visuals and the levelling up but thats all pointless now, unless you fancy doing the same boring stuff in crucible over and over again.

You might see a trend here with the game - "repetitive" - awful!! - oh and certainly no replay value!

Nobody wants to group watch a bunch of video--they want to blow stuff up with their mates. I've seen outright errors in professional reviews--like the lack of ability to join up with random people you see online. You absolutely can. This game will keep me busy for a couple of months of 10 hour/week gaming. I don't like repetition. So who I am playing with and what sub-mission I am going after, or the surprise drop-in missions that started a couple of days ago all make the experience different enough to keep me coming back. Visually, this is a stunner, more so than anything I have currently played outside of the PC world.

    The soundtrack is beautiful.

The story definitely felt incomplete, which is saddening because I only became interested in it part way through.

The Strikes are fun and the boss fights are as any boss fight is, a challenge the first time through.

Otherwise you're hitting standard MMO fare with daily missions, bounties, daily/weekly heroics, events, rep farming and pvp.

Is it the second coming of gaming? No, there isn't a game out there that can do that. It does stand on its own two feet as a great game to play. For those of you who decide on whether or not to play a game on other peoples opinions, you're selling yourself short, form your own opinion on it. Make a character on a friends account and test the waters.

My absolute favorite thing right now are the Patrol missions. This free-roam game mode is exactly what I would want in a FPS. Just go in and mindlessly roam around grabbing little quests and hunting down groups of monsters. You can go for as long or as short a time as you want. It's simply fun. If this is grinding to you, you are playing the wrong game.

Did you like it in Halo where you went to campaign mission and killed some things and then you went farther into the mission and farther into the map and killed some more things? Then you'll love Destiny.

Did you like it in Call of Duty where you cleared waves after waves of enemies while you sought after objectives and conquered the area? Then you'll love Destiny.

I also know that everyone is complaining about how it's just a "RIP OFF OF BORDERLANDS!"... Well I'm sorry to break this to you... but Borderlands used the "scaling items" gimmick from every other MMORPG in the world. Because guess what, they have scaling items just like that.

Borderlands: "OH COOL I GOT THIS LEVEL 15 GUN WHICH IS BETTER THAN MY LEVEL 13 GUN"

MMORPG: "OH COOL I GOT THIS LEVEL 15 SWORD WHICH IS BETTER THAN MY LEVEL 13 AX"

One of my big complaints, is how we don't have communications to other people near by. I really think the game needs proximity voice chat. Without it, I feel disconnected from other players on the map.

Also, the load screens are super long, but with the nicer graphics come longer load screens, so I'm kind of okay with that.

Either way, the game is great. And people who are hating to the point of giving it anything less than a 7, really aren't thinking about the situation or have no idea what they're talking about.

Destiny, in its current state, failed to meet the content expectations I had after playing both the Alpha and Beta versions. This score is based on the overall experience, may aspects of Destiny are higher rated, but for a game that has been in development for as long as Destiny, I expected a better overall product.

The Crucible (player vs. player combat) is great fun and adds variety to an otherwise disappointing, rinse-repeat motto that is the player vs. environment (missions, strikes, and patrolling). Missions feel too repetitive towards the end of the game and I was ready to conclude the story before I even reached the end. Patrols and strikes end up in a mindless grind of the same content in hopes for an item with marginally better stats. Stats do not give you the same level of customization in other games of similar genres. Stats give no additional damage, armor, critical strike damage, etc. bonuses, instead they alter cooldowns on various abilities you have. Ultimately, it does not feel like your character develops beyond level 20 via gear upgrades in a traditional sense (e.g., games like Diablo, WoW, FF14, etc.)

To end on a good note, I think Destiny is worth the retail price if you enjoy multiplayer shooters. I really enjoy the Crucible. It is fun to unlock new skills and test different builds in PVP. Furthermore, stat optimization seems to have a greater effect in PVP where you may prefer using grenades more frequently or your special, etc.

Despite not meeting my high expectations as a worth, I think the PVP aspects of this game make it a worthwhile trip. It's just a shame you have to suffer through several hours of lackluster story and repetitive PVE to get to a level where PVP is more enjoyable.

The multiplayer portion is also great fun (though I'm not a huge PVP style player, so it can also be frustrating). I find the game pretty fun by myself, and even more so when playing with others. A good mixture of single player, PVE and PVP make for a game that can be fun for many players. Everyone has their playing styles however so this game can be more fun for some than others.

    Cons:
Like most shooters, most MMOs, and most games you play in general, this game does become repetitive. The general nature of this game being a mixture of FPS and MMO makes it feel even more so. The story isn't a focus while playing, so you don't get drawn into it making the game feel more like a grind.

Overall, I've enjoyed the game quite a bit. I didn't expect much of a story after playing the beta, so I knew what I was getting into. If they made the story draw you in (or even made the "quests" more a part of the story), this game would be great. The lack of story and the feel of grinding after a few hours dulls the experience.

I personally thought it was a semi-finished masterpiece. I played it for a solid weekend with two other friends. It was very entertaining and addicting, I couldn't put it down. The gameplay was fun and varied, the guns were fun and exciting to use (besides the fact that rocket launchers are **** useless). The boss battles were stressful and rewarding in the end.

The majority of people writing reviews of this game are giving it a bad review because they are comparing it to games that have nothing to do with it. Remember that Destiny is supposed to be a ten year long game full of DLC and new content. For all those people freaking out because people are giving it such a bad time understand that nobody liked Diablo 3 when it came out. I was expecting more of an epic battle game involving taking back the solar system with many other guardians holding and pushing back the hordes, but what I got was a very small MMO format summed up with either choosing PvE or PvP. In fact, you don't see many other guardians fighting along side with you as you progress through your missions most times no one, maybe one, maybe three, and that's it. For each planet, you get one large map and you traverse this back and forth until you finish five mission. Most glaring is that there is no story. At one point, more than half-way through the game, you think you started an actual story, but then you realize it's nothing more than just an embellished fetch quest which will play out just like you other fifteen missions did. Multiplayer is just like any other. Fun for about twenty-minutes, then you're bored. At least for me. I do know people who play multiplayer games 24/7, so for those, you might enjoy this game quite a lot. And multiplayer is important in this game because it's the only way you can get the points necessary to purchase new items once you reach level 20. One item will cost you 25-50 points, which means you need to win 25-50 multiplayer matches. For me, I would have to play over 200 multiplayer matches to buy one cape. So to sum this up, the game has been as good as an experience as any other multiplayer aspect of a game; good for a few days, then I'm bored with it. I'm a little disappointed. Expand

Bungie has created a FPS that allows you to create their own game. Destiny is a game that introduces a new style of FPS that lets you decided the skill or path you want to take. This game lays the groundwork for video games in the next ten years. Even in its flaws (endless tunnels and repetitive characters) Destiny's game play is additive.

This game is repetitive. Read, REPETITIVE. Not only does it keep reusing the same old areas, but the mobs spawn in exactly the same spots, facing the same direction, with exactly the same "AI" every time. Your equipment drops give you more equipment that looks and behaves exactly the same as the last set, with small performance changes or color changes as the only discernible difference.

Even the AI screams repetitive. Have you played Halo? Then you're familiar with Grunts jumping behind a rock, then out from behind, and back again, over and over until you shoot them. That is what all the mobs in this game do. The "different alien races" you fight have all the same crap also. Minions that might as well just be Halo Grunts (since they have the same guns and AI), a few Lieutenants that might as well be Elites (except they use the same brain dead "AI" as the Grunts), and a few bosses that just wander around shooting as YOU jump back and forth from behind rocks.

Even the weapons are retreads. "Pulse Rifle" is a skinjob over the Battle Rifle. "Hand Cannon" is the old pistol. Even the "Needler" is redone with enemies firing at you. Jumping feels exactly like, wait for it, Halo. Regen shields? That's new. Oh wait, nope. Thank goodness I can buy a vehicle that... does nothing. Or a ship, so I have something else to stare at during load screens.

But the Multiplayer open world is even worse. Who the hell designs a "Social Hub" and neglects to put ANY way to actually socialize? I can hardly say that with a straight face, there is zero, zip, nada, nothing at all in place to let you speak to other players in any way. No chat, no "LFG" channel, no public channel, no trading, no market, NOTHING AT ALL. I can talk to friends off my friends list, of course, but I can do that during ANY game.

What a piece of crap. Do like I did, take it back to Gamestop right away while you can still get your $43 credit.

Personally I absolutely love the game. The graphics and visuals are amazing. The sounds are also very, very good. Yes some of the gameplay is a little repetitive, but that's because it's not a linear game where you're going from one unique level to the next, never to visit the previous. I also liked that the environments weren't super filled up with loot and chests similar to Borderlands where you have about 1,000 chests to open at any one time.

The gameplay is excellent. When I first started playing, I felt the character seemed a little sluggish and slow. Adjusting the stick sensitivity helped with some of this. The shooting has a nice real feel to it. You get a more random recoil out of the automatics than just a straight up arc. The mix of weapons could have been a little more broad but I'm sure as the game progresses that will change (in the sense of Bungie releasing updates and mods). The PVP is also a ton of fun to play. I like that it integrates what you do in the story and has direct ties to the legendary armors. The accompanying storyline is interesting to say the least. I really enjoy the Sci Fi genre and this game embodies everything you'd expect out of that.

My advice is to go play the game without any preconceived notions about what it is or isn't supposed to be. I see a lot of reviews where players are butt hurt it isn't EXACTLY Halo or EXACTLY Borderlands or whatever. It's a really enjoyable game with a lot of great features.

I'm not a massive FPS fan in the first place and needed the game to give me something to NEED to play it. Destiny wasn't what I was hoping for, also I couldn't help but compare it to the other games that I was playing at the same time which were PS3 reboots of Tomb Raider and Last of Us. Both of those games made me want to keep playing. I thought a Next-Gen 'Masterpiece' should have done the same.

I'm sure the hardcore Halo and COD fans will like this game purely for the multiplayer aspect but don't buy the game for the story. It's pretty boring. Traded my game in already before the trade in price plummets!

People have to remember that it's only the beginning and really there are updating the game with new content every couple of weeks. I think that people that are pissed about the story and forget that they loved Halo and there wasn't much story in that in the beginning either. Also remember assassins creed for the record started the same way. I actually did like the story in halo and played the campaigns for each one. I think that this game has an amazing potential and as updates come and go it will come out more and more. If you honestly think they spent five years developing a story and the first 20-25 levels was going to reveal it all to you, I could see why you would be disappointed. Remember that reviving dead ghosts also reveals a good amount of back story if you take the time to check it out. The game looks beautiful, mechanics are great and smooth, bungie paid major attention to detail in which few games ever do. I find the loading screens and cut scenes beautiful and the music gets ready to play before each PVP match. If you are approaching this game expecting a Mass Effect style single player campaign then you will be disappointed. Instead what you will find is an incredibly detailed action sci-fi framework that provides a very promising future for expansion and longevity. It is unfair to expect Bungie to drop all their tricks on the initial release, they must save something in reserve to release over time - and personally I cannot wait.

The mechanics are peerless, and the loot-dropping grind gameplay is incredibly addictive. Bringing down a boss in a strike mission truly feels like a group effort. The 'bullet-sponge' nature of the bosses isn't for everyone but I challenge you to not feel awesome when you and your new comrades finally conquer one.

Focusing on what was wrong with game early on, was a lot to do with my expectations of what kind of game it would be. Massive hype can have that effect, such I suppose is human nature.

Coop is optional with up to 3 friends working together, which makes missions a lot easier by letting you flank enemies. The game does adjust the difficulty of each mission dynamically though, so it's still possible on your own.

Apart from the main story mode there's also Patrol mode letting you roam a vast area taking on mini-missions, again, coop if you want. There's also a PvP mode called Crucible which I haven't tried, and afaik it's not part of the story.

After that the real game starts and the hunt for legendary and exotic armor and weapons , the ranking up in pvp if you're into that , or just getting standing with the vangaurd to get you better armor.

The group zones you do after you hit 20 are great. Every day there's a new one you can do for extra exp.

You can easily see Bungie made this game to be easily expandable. Leveling beyond lvl 20 is done through gear so adding a few levels is just a mater of itemization

Reviewers tend to rate their ego vs the gaming industry. If they don't get it they don't leave it open , they just give it a bad score. I remember WOW and EQ2 reviews in big magazines having been done by people who played until they were level 20 and level 12 respectively scoring them by how good the water looked.
Honestly , these people have no idea, they are the bane of the gaming industry.

Why only a 9 and not a 10 ? I don't like the idea you need a playstation plus account to have a serious game experience. It makes up for not needing a monthly fee, granted, but they have the ability to jump on the DLC train instead , which is just the same. Add a few zones, ask 10 dollars.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
