Overall, it sucks. Here is why. The voice chat is extremely limited. I did not find this out until tonight. I thought voice chat in multiplayer was a given. What good does it do to explore worlds if you can't talk to anybody? I got bored out of my mind playing it because of this. So, only get this game if and when your friends have it and are available to play it with you. That is the only way you'll ever enjoy it. So, I thought I was a getting a huge multiplayer game that I might make some friends on, but no. You can't make friends if you can't communicate. The reasons Bungie gives for this are so stupid I won't ever buy one of their games again. I feel ripped off. Why didn't they talk about this at E3? No, it's just some little side story on an article you don't come across unless you actually search it.

NO singleplayer offline is totally insane, how can I love the game without a clue what the story is! since i do not have friend to buy this, its so hard to enjoy it, bungie clearly has the ambition, but it's not a great online game, please make another halo-like game cause its your strong suit, and by the way, it's not even close to borderlands.

So, I have been playing this game for about 15 hours and I have so say that it is not the game changer that we all thought it would be. Overhyped crap just like titanfall and watch dogs. Its boring and repetitive and it plays just like any other fps. I honestly want my money back.

I thought release version would be different from beta, but i was wrong. This game sucks. Its not MMO. Its a rip off Borderland. All you do is grinding, grinding and grinding the same mission. Go to point A and kill wave of npc, then go to B and do the same thing. For 60 $ you will get poor plot full of cliches, a lack of content, silly AI. It doesn't even feel like its a big social world. Because all you see is 3-4 people on hunting grounds and 10-15 in city . And there are even no tools to communicate with them properly. PVP feels like downgrade from their previous games, Halo.
And don't forget that Activion in the house. So you will see a LOT OF DLC, Wanna new content - buy DLC.

Bosses have just one move pattern, shoot. They don't react dynamically and don't have any special move. The game's boss design is absolute failure.
Enemies don't drop guns. so how dare can it be compared with Borderlands?
Mission design is linear rail shooter. And it doesn't have any escape scene, turret scene, melee-only scene, stealth scene, even sniper scene like old BF3. Just run and gun style and do we happen to be living in those 90s once again?

The game just feels like its on repeat it gets annoying you cant talk to no one its a antisocial game its just a mess this saddens me after all the hype reminds me of watchdogs flop

    Home from midnight release:
Setting up: Vanguard DLC doesn't work. I'll think 'whatever, I'll get it tomorrow or the day after.
Load the game: marionberry error, cannot connect to servers. Can't play game = can't review. Terrible way to make first impressions

I had fairly high hopes for this game. It was fun at first, but quickly became monotonous and boring. It looks beautiful and controls well. Unfortunately, the story is very weak and the combat is repetitive and lacks variety.

Each planet feels very empty with only randomly spawning enemies to fill in the spaces, sometimes a random event will spawn but those can take up to 2 hours and end in roughly 2 minutes...there's no way to communicate with the other people unless they are in your fireteam, no squad commands or nothing, dont come on Destiny looking to make any friends or play cooperatively, communicating with other players was not a priority in Bungie's pseudo MMO multiplayer shooter

The game isn't bad by any means, if you like borderlands you'll love Destiny, but if your like me and don't enjoy that kind of game Destiny is just painfully average!

The games story is a joke, story missions have little to no variety to them and a vast majority of the dialogue is exposition, it's a shame the universe is very interesting. I just wish Bungie put a story in it instead of having story missions be encyclopedias.

Gameplay is very much like borderlands, with far less loot. Levels are decently sized, and varied. Space travel essentially acts as a loading screen, which screams wasted potential. When you land on the planets, or levels, they act as a sort of open world, and it's dull. Like I said they are large, but there is just no story to them, it's just an open world with enemies sitting in an area waiting to be shot. The game isn't skill based (unless it's PVP), it's level based, which was annoying for me. PVP is great, it's easily the best part of the game, very satisfying, very competitive, and very addicting!

The graphics are great, and they left me wanting more. When looking at the games gorgeous backgrounds I repetitively said to my friend "I wanna go there!" sadly I could not.

Destiny is just an average game, it's not next gen at all in terms of gameplay (no manual space travel or large planets to explore.) In the end it's a good game, but it could have been fantastic.

Remind me of the good old days when playing WOW was still fun for me. My main complaint would be the lack of non-hostile creatures in the environments which I have explored so far. These environments should have hoards of roaming "whatevers" that could be accidentally aggroed, used as a distraction for enemies, ect. The 10 is to balance out the 1's- this game deserves a 8 so far with me, hoping the end game brings that up to a 9. Expand

First off, anyone giving this game less than 6 is reviewing it based on some missed expectation that they had, and not based on the game as it stands.

The story missions were fun, though playing them on hard is a necessary for anyone looking for any kind of challenge with a fireteam. When I took the time to actually look around, some of the environments I was taken too where quite impressive. Whenever I started to feel bored with the single player a new planet would open up, bringing new environments to explore and new enemy types. The story itself was easily dismissed by many, but I found that if I actually listened to everything and payed attention to why I was doing things it was more enjoyable. I think it didn't resonate with more people because storytelling would frequently happen without taking a break from the game. You would be running around and collecting ammo or whatever usually while the narrator (ghost) was talking and the dialogue just didn't pop out as much.

The content opens up a lot after lvl 20. The strike missions on heroic/impossible difficulties presented a great challenge for fireteams and made teamplay a necessity. I didn't get a chance to try out the 6-man raids though...

PvP is a lot of fun, and I can see myself spending a lot of time there. I'm really a CoD/BF player that enjoys single player/coop games like Borderlands and Mass Effect on the side. The matches I played in the crucible were exciting and the map variety was decent. Many people felt that in the Beta there was no weapon to use outside of the automatic rifle, but I felt like each weapon type could be successful with an appropriate change in tactics (though I believe the day one patch had a bit to do with balancing it out). You don't sprint into the middle of a firefight with a revolver any more than you would snipe with a shotgun. Being able to change your weapon loadout mid-match is a great feature, as it gives you the ability to change up your strategy based on the map and the enemies tactics.

I felt like there were some missed opportunities though. More mission variety would have been nice. For example, there was one mission in particular where you picked up a big sword and held off a wave of enemies with a brutal sword/melee attack. It presented a slight change of pace, an opportunity to feel overpowered (without actually being so, as you would get your ass kicked by the elites if you spent too much time in melee range). Most of the missions were similar "go here, kill guys, kill an elite/boss, go home" type missions, mixing attacking new areas with defending against incoming waves. Maybe more missions where you did a lot with vehicles, or got into turrets, or any other single player FPS tropes. I also felt like there wasn't enough loot drops. When it takes 10 minutes and/or multiple attempts to take down a boss, have him drop a cool weapon or gadget for the lower levels. There was more loot in end game content, but getting there takes a while and the lack of rewards from killing bosses was taxing when going through the story the first time. Also, I miss the big multiplayer matches (8v8 or 12v12) in multiplayer, and the vehicle variety in both single and multiplayer. A few Halo-esque vehicle missions would have been a welcome addition to the story missions. To say that the movement and gunplay didn't feel at least a little Halo-esque would be a lie, and I want my blood gulch!

Overall it is a solid game, with loads of content. I felt like it had a little bit of something for everyone, with a enjoyable campaign for casual, a solid end-game for hardcore, and fun PvP for that crowd. I can assume some of the things I thought were missing had to be cut based on the amount of development time they had in creating these massive worlds and multiple ways to experience it. Hopefully we see the addition of some of those things with the upcoming expansions, and we don't have to wait until "Destiny 2" to get it. I for one look forward to spending a lot of time gearing up multiple classes and having fun in multiplayer for now. See you on the battlefield!

Ps4 has the best and smoothest graphics, my brother has an xboxone, you can see the difference. AI will defend and pullout if in danger, boss battles are boss battles, you will spend some time defeating them. The only reason for a 9 is that you can't chat with just anyone, only people in your fire team. I would like to think a patch will open this up down the road. Good job Bungie! Expand

Graphically the game is unreal and the framerate at least on the PS4 is smooth and rarely hiccups. The gameplay itself is an awesome blend of Halo and Borderlands, the exploration, story and strike modes are awesome, and the multiplayer aspect here is great, with other players wandering in and out of your adventures, but due to the way the game is designed, the only way other players can effect your game is positively, they can't attack you or steal items from you, only help you wipe out a particularly rough enemy or lead the way to a new area originally unknown to you. If you want to smash other players heads in of course there's always the crucible, which is the player vs player multiplayer aspect and has all the traditional fixins from deathmatch to capture the flag and control. The story is in depth and interesting, and has the occasional out of left field gameplay (the sword of crota mission is unreal).

There are more than enough things to do in the game that it is a solid investment, and whether you want to be social or play like a lone wolf, you can do both seamlessly (though the strikes and raids will auto match you up with other players because alone they're legitimately almost impossible). The game, however, needs to be constantly online, so whether you want to play alone or with friends, it works in a similiar vein as world of warcraft, where the world is shared with everyone.

All in all the game scores a perfect 10 out of me, the only gripe I have is Peter Dinklage not being a very good voice over artist. If you buy one more game all year, please make it this one. Hope I see you online.

As with most mainstream gaming fans, players seem incapable of providing an opinion between these extremes. Metacritic should just use an "Enjoy" or "Did not enjoy" rating system for user reviews, because people seem to be tragically incapable of providing honest, balanced, sane user reviews.

You'll have morons giving a 0 when they can't launch the game, or a 0 due to one small feature bothering them. That's not a 0 folks. You wait until you can play to review, and in the case of a single feature that irks you, you balance your score around that negative and the positives.

Stop embarrassing yourself and other gamers with these polarized extremes. Destiny isn't a 0, come on! It's certainly a baseline 6 or greater title, by any objective measure of recent game releases.

Look at some of these 0 scores. They come from people who gave 10 to the last Call of Duty and 0 to Grand Theft Auto V, or vice-versa. We're talking about people with chips on their shoulders, personal vendettas, zero perspective, or a chronic disability with communication.

Grow up. Destiny is easily a solid 7 for me, has improved to an 8 via more focused play with people on my Friend list, and it should easily give me my $60 worth over the next few months.

Stay open-minded, gamers. Knee-jerk scoring extremes are just embarassing - or outright lies. Consider some of these Destiny users that give 0 to the PS4 version and 10 to the Xbox One version - or the other way around. Why would you trust these people? People are so accustomed to vomiting opinions on the Internet with little-to-no perspective, fire and forget style, how can we expect to trust a subset of entertainment fans with notoriously small attention spans?

GAMERS, let's do better. Let's expose the dumb and review with proper balance and perspective. Help your fellow gamer instead of airing your dirty laundry with unintelligible emotional hang-ups.

C'mon, guys - make a mental checklist of your actual positives vs. negatives, and mold your score around that. I'm going to keep playing and evaluating, holding at 8/10 with future content additions in mind.

So i bought this game because i went full into the hype, but i just don't get what all the fuzz is about, the game is Borderlands meets Halo, you shoot, you level up, collect loot and kill bosses at the end of each mission, wich often take place in the same levels with the same enemy's. The game claims to be an MMOish type of game but it isn't really much more then a 4-player co-op expierence, you can't trade , you can't do much else together then shoot stuff up just like in Borderlands, what really bugs me is that online media websites keep treating it like a holy grail, no reviews are up because this game is "to big" to review in a couple of hours, i think thats a bulls*t , borderlands 2 reviews where online in a couple of hours and that game was maybe bigger then this game was, i still enjoy playing it just like borderlands and i like this game maybe even more than that one, but i don't know how long it will keep me interrested, i mean i get bored already sometimes when the no-respawn area happens and that you know you will be pushing the trigger like an idiot for the next 10 minutes.

Its a good game, but i can't see me playing this game for the next 6-months.

The game is clearly meant to be played with friends. The story content and writing seems bare, as if they tried to keep plot out of the way of friendly banter between fireteams. The real interesting aspect of the game's lore come unfortunately from the Grimoire Cards, items found in game that can only be read on Bungie's Destiny app or on their own website. This will keep a lot of people from really experiencing what is a deceptively deep and compelling universe.

It's clear that there's room in the game for DLC. With the first two expansions announced before the game's release, it feels as if the story has suffered from a desire to sell removed sections of the game. What's there justifies the initial purchase in my opinion, but the practice leaves a bad taste in my mouth for sure.

The decision to exclude team-chat during the game's multiplayer mode keeps solo players from being able to jump in and perform well with strangers. This unfortunately keeps the game from having perhaps the best multiplayer experience in any current-gen shooter.

At the end of the day, playing this game with friends and clan mates will provide an exciting experience that, quite frankly, is a total blast. Collecting loot, exploring, competing and cooperating with your team feels as good or better in this game than in any other. Without the ability to speak to teammates without inviting them to join your fire team, playing the game solo may indeed keep a player from really enjoying what could be a near-perfect game.

The game is extremely boring, this the last time that I purchase a game, purely based on hype. It doesn't do anything for me, I hate the gameplay it's so repetitive, I hate the enemies. Why did this game have such a huge budget when it sucks?

So much hate... There's absolutely no way this game is a 0. If you can't make a rational decision, you shouldn't be reviewing games.

I give this game a solid 8 only for its feeling of repetition (at least in the early game) and annoying load times. Other than that, this game is graphically stunning and great gameplay. It has huge potential and I'm looking forward to what comes next.

Garbage ... who makes an MMO where you cannot trade items with your friends? Bungie I guess ...

Play Halo 2 instead. Better MP, story.

Also the lore cards in Destiny ... to read them ... get this ... you have to look them up in a browser on your computer/tablet/phone. Why this crap wasn't available in game ... your guess = mine

I'm leveling up pretty fast without completing much of them, using only bounties and pvp xp. The Pvp is great, but you have to learn how to use your abilities effectivelly if you want to succeed. Overall, Destiny is certainly the best game released this year, and had the best launch i have ever experienced for an online game, I never got disconnected and never experienced lag. As someone who rarely enjoys multiplayer shooters this game is fantastic. Bungie's blend of Halo, Diablo, Borderlands, and MMO strikes the perfect balance. The story is not particularly strong, but I do care about the world I'm trying to save. The lore is interesting, enemy types unique, and the atmosphere is phenomenal. As a musician I am really digging the soundtrack as well.

It has a lot of elements from a lot of games , and does a very good job of bringing them together. No major issues at launch and a great. Game to play solo or with a friend. You can adjust the difficulty to make it more challenging if you need to. I highly recommend it. But it is not for everyone.

The expectations created are unrealistic. So instead, look at what kind of game this is. This is basically and Halo-esque RPG. And it is wonderful. Being an experienced MMO player for the days of vanilla World of Warcraft, this game has great MMO checkpoints. A leveling system that keeps you wanting more. Loot that drives you to get the best items. And subtle customization that makes you spend days figuring our what you want to play.

This game lets you play one of the best designed FPSMMOs out there. You go through the story to get levels to find out what the class you picked is capable of. Or you PvP in the amazing Halo style combat. Or, for the old-school gamers, you can just grind and get higher and higher levels and just bask in the rewards of excessive grinding. This game does it all. PvP combat that has the FPS elements of skill, yet subtle changes due to weapons, gear, and level to a degree. All of them work. The balance is spectacular.

Want to roleplay? Well guess what, you are a Guardian, one of the last vestiges of a civilizations golden age. You are the champion that is protecting the one remaining city on Earth from falling into darkness. It's here. Want to PvP? Level up smoothly in the game modes that you craved for in Halo. Get new gear as you annihilate your opponents. Want to quest? Then go to story mode and listen to Peter Dinklage edpouse his wisdom. Grind in the surprising open world patrols that are offered on each planet. There is plenty to do in this game, almost a little bit for everyone.

So many people are dissatisfied that it doesn't live up to expectations. Instead, take it as it is. A game that the developers took time to be enjoyable. To make you spend hours, and realize that it is tomorrow and work in is 2 hours. A game that you can lose yourself, and remember and enjoy every moment that you spent. This game is an amazing game to play, and I hope that most of you understand that it is a cu above he rest that have released. It breathes life into the FPSRPG genre, and it cares about it. It is a game that will not be forgotten. I hope people remember this game as a genre defining staple in a stagnating marketing. Play it, and let your enjoyment be the true judge of this adventure.

That's Destiny. It didn't have the balls to just come out and say "ITS HALO LITE!" but it also didn't have enough creativity to make it something innovative or narrative-driven.

    Pros:

    Looks pretty

    Cons: Everything else. Really.

    No 60fps

    No online chat

    No single player campaign

    Not open world. Bland maps.

Atrocious AI. DayZ bad. For real.

    Forgettable story and characters.

    Weak customization

    Super low level cap.

This game doesn't know what it wants to be. It clearly has dollar signs in its eyes as it shamelessly attempts to cover all its bases (genre-speaking) but bc it decided not to stick to something singular what we have is a soulless hodgepodge of restricted MP, no solo campaign, and direction and identity-free gameplay that is more of a chore than anything else.

Still waiting for Mass Effect and Fallout. Those guys do it right (especially Fallout)

Destiny definitely has a unique feel to it, which I think some might take to be empty or generic. I don't really feel that way. The worlds feel a bit desolate and isolated, but in a way that space probably should. You're never completely alone playing, even when you don't have a fireteam because there are other players doing their own missions in the same area as you. This was a really nice surprise. I feel like what's there is a great basis for an online community to dwell and grow in. I'm excited to see what more this game has to offer.

As far as the story goes, it's almost not there, but what is is interesting and intriguing. I'd definitely prefer a sparse story to one that sucks. There's been nothing corny or over the top about the game, which is usually what pulls me out of being immersed.

Of course people are comparing this to Borderlands and Halo, which makes sense. However, I think this is a little bit more of a refined experience than both. It's definitely a mature product in a game making sense.

My advice is to not listen to all the negative reviews on this and try the game out for yourself. Is it the best game ever made? No, it's not. It is worth $60? Yes, absolutely.

If you buy this game expecting a COD type shooter, you won't like it as much and you'll give it a score of 6.0 or 0 or whatever. That's not really fair to rate a game based on the wrong expectations , but hey, that's why you're not a pro game reviewer and why user reviews don't matter. That'd be like be buying a driving simulator and expecting it to be like Burnout paradise crash and blasting all out arcade action game and being disappointed when you just feel like you're driving a real car. Some people like that, some people don't, but if it's accurate to what it's intended to be, it deserves an appropriate score.

Destiny, is kind of like it's own genre, and if you play it like it's intended to be played, it's an absolute blast. It's intended to be played with actual FRIENDS with a headset so you can use strategy, such as flanking and maneuvering to defeat the enemy and complete the objective. The "legitimate" low scores (not counting the 0's, 2's, 3's because that just insulting) are just people expecting a different style of game. If you like strategy and co-operative gameplay, and have friends that do as well, you're going to LOVE this game, once you get past the couple hour learning curve. It's truly amazing. This is my first Metacritic review because this is the first time I really felt the need to explain a game being that it is "different" than what a lot of people are expecting. The voice chat is set up so you can only talk to people in your fireteam because the levels are pretty big. hearing other fireteams would make it absolutely a confusing mess. If you happen to team up with another fireteam and mesh with them, add them as a friend and add them to your fireteam, or use the group chat feature on PS4 away from the game. It's pretty damn simple. If you try to play this game alone, you won't enjoy it as much and that will affect your decision. In that case, it's not a type a game for you, but for the type of game it is, it's an amazing new experience. It's a great game and easily a 9 possibly higher once I get even more in depth into the world.

-Repetitive (Mission types and enemies can start to feel very been there done that)
-If you are not playing co-op this game just simply will not be as fun.
-Story is very generic and somewhat confusing, doesn't help that dinkbot is the only real source of narration (unless you want to do a lot of reading).

I can see why people are upset about this game, Bungie promised something different than what was delivered. I would not consider this game to be open world (open levels, but only one "map" per planet). Not as much reward for exploration as you may think.

All in all a decent game. A year from now, that may all change as more content is added. The bottome line is this was supposed to be a HUGE sprawling game world full of life and activity that could be played for years. Instead we got a nicely polished, somewhat open, kind of boring shooter (with a lvl 20 cap : (.

I would highly recommend, I've been there for Halo 1 and 2, then retreated a bit from bungee titles. I'm back now with this excellent addition. I foresee many hours of fun with Destiny. Don't listen to the oddly misplaced hatred from people, this game delivers!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Im giving this game a positive review because I enjoy the game. However, there are reasons I wouldn't give it any more then a 6. This game is NOT an MMO. The lack of proximity chat makes this game a single player experience with other people. There is NO way to cooperate without actual communication and the emoticon controls are never used. I think this is a HUGE oversight. Another thing is the story. I honestly find myself struggleing to even care about the traveler or any of the "characters". When you first goto the reef and meet the queen, I litterally had no idea why I should care about her what she was doing or why we even had to do this besides progressing the plot. Which I am still not even sure there is a plot besides accept mission A, Do objective B then get a reward. With no continutity aside from MINOR story moving points that are achieved far between. I think the voice acting could have been better but thats minor. I think my major concern for the game is why the story sucks so bad? This is bungie for crying out loud. I cannot understand why I do not like the story. I don't even know what the minor goal for this game is besides push back the darkness which is incredibly vague. The story should have been the most important part but I just dont care about the literally 3 characters in this game. ANywho, the graphics are great, multiplayer is fun and I enjoy PLAYING the game a lot. Worth the purchase but I may hold off on getting excited on the next one until they can make me care to play the 20-30 hour story campaign. Expand

    No. It does not suck.

Even if you dont like it, it isnt justified to give this game a 0/10. I also think, that the content isnt enough and the voice chat is missing but the gameplay is fun and the look is amazing. I would rate it 8/10, but since i want to balance out the missleading score i go for 10/10.

One more thing. People also complain that there is no offline mode. First off Bungie stated this from the very beginning. They said this game would be constantly online. If you have, then you knew there was no offline in the beginning so if you did not like the fact why get the game in the first place. That is like getting World of Warcraft and expecting there to be an offline mode. That being said you are NOT forced to play with anyone, you can play solo. Yes the open world environment has random players running around. But once you reach your mission location I.E. the point where you cannot respawn, then only you, or members in your fire team whom you have invited an enter that point with you. Meaning if you choose you can play completely solo. So please do not post a bad review because you are butt hurt about it not being offline, more than like you do not have play station plus so you can not even play the game. So ignore those negative reviews Expand

First of all I really don't understand all the fuss and inaccurate ratings for this game. No game ever deserves a "0" and no game can ever reach perfection of 10.

Before playing the game I watched several streams of the gameplay and I have taken people's opinion while they play in order to form a understand of how this game would play out. And confirm for myself whether what they had said were true. And right before I started the game, I wanted to just hop off the hype train and let myself into a unbiased mind set.

With that said, I loaded the game and here is my thought on it:

The game introduces it's self in the beginning with some cut scenes which were really ambiguous and interesting and set a really mysterious and adventurous mood for us. It delivered the impression that was what they had advertised and demo'd during game shows like E3. And It made me expect things like vast areas on Earth that you can explore. But it's really sad because shortly I discovered the "vast" world of Destiny is actually as linear as the typical dungeon runner, absolutely nothing like Assassin's Creed or GTA. Personally, I was a tad bit disappointed but it didn't end there. The game is played in linear levels where exploration is almost out of the question considering how small the map is. Plus from level 1-10 which accounts for almost a quarter the game, they only introduce 2 factions which has as little as 5 different units per faction and it could have been okay with such level of variation of mobs had they been interesting, but it's so sad to see how stupid the AI is in this game. And then there is the story, I love Peter Dinklage from the game of the throne and it's not his voice but I found his story telling abilities a bit weak as well as the script that he was given. Coming from a triple A title you'd expect the story line to be close to the quality that games like Mass Effect of Halo has to offer but honestly it's like Diablo 3 all over again.

    Summary of Cons:

    -Linear game play
    -Extremely weak story line
    -Grindy
    -Horrible implementation of social interations
-Uninteresting mobs (Knights, Wizards, Apostate seriously?)

Other than that, you can clearly tell how much effort they put into the character movement and abilities. I love their character and class designs they really blend nicely to the Destiny universe. Every character looks fantastic and unique yet not overboard. There aren't many variations of weapons comparing to Borderlands but there is a decent amount for the game of this size to keep things interesting. The controls are great, I got used to it minutes after playing maybe it's because the layout is pretty similar to your typical shooter but it worked with the game flawlessly. I also want to point out a couple things I love about multiplayer which is called the Crucible in the game. I have played 2/3 classes and both have been through the crucible and I think they balanced the characters and their abilities really well, nothing is too overpowering, you get to enjoy pvp looking great in the gears that you worked hard for and it all comes down to the skill of the player. I also love the vehicle based pvp map like the one on the moon to spice things up, you get a nice mix of light, heavy and turrets each for a different purpose.

    Summary of Pros:
    -Great Multiplayer
    -Character Design
    -Flawless control
    -Decent blend of weapons

Destiny is a Love AND Hate type of game because it has a lot of potential to be great but too many things were neglected by the developers. I really wish the story was a bit better and the universe was more vast and mysterious filled with interesting things to do. But from the looks of it the developers focused way too much energy on multiplayer than the single story coop which is a bit disappointing.

Second off I haven't played the whole game to give a full review but from what I have played I will give a review for the time being. First off with the character creation, some good and bad. I wish there was more to actually create with the character looks, however the play style of the 3 classes is really nice. The three classes is based off if you want to be stealthy/kill from long range, be a "tank" and be on the front lines of the battle, and the class with the magic and firepower abilities. This makes it so you can really find a class to fit the way you like to play. Next, the game play is really good. The abilities are pretty awesome and are a lot different for each class. Your guns have a lot of different attachments you can upgrade and put on made each gun unique. Also, each weapon has different stats even if it is the same weapon it will have different stats than the same type of gun, making he loot system very random which is nice. This game is meant to be played with people with missions that suggest having multiple people to take on bosses which would be very difficult for one player, and the higher levels you go the more people they suggest for even more difficult boss battles (kind of like raids and dungeons from World of warcraft). Also people say there isn't much to do however you can free roam on the worlds to do side missions. One downside is that you can't communicate with other players unless you are in a party. This is a very rough review since i have yet to play enough to give an in depth review, however from what I have played and watched this is a very fun game with hours of gameplay. Expand

Destiny is not an awful game. However, it is far from good, and all things considered it is likely one of the biggest letdowns in my entire gaming lifetime. I want to be having fun, but I simply am not.

Let's start with the positives to mollify the dissonant fans trying to justify their purchase and hype:
+ The lore itself, strictly the lore, is fantastic. See negatives for why this was a horribly missed opportunity.
+ The music is engaging, I think I may pick up the OST regardless of the game itself.
+ The gameplay itself does feel satisfying at first, it only sours when you realize this is *all* there is.

And now, sadly, the laundry list of negatives that led to my score:
    - The story might as well not be there. I'm serious. I have played RPGs with the budget of Destiny's daily donut allowance that had better stories than this. Six missions into the game I realized I still had no idea what I was doing, why I should care, or who anyone was. That is COMPLETELY unacceptable for a high school writing project, let alone a game that cost 500 million dollars. People are saying it's like Mass Effect. *Please*. From the get-go in Mass Effect, and indeed any RPG worth its salt, you feel like you're part of a greater story and constantly have a feeling of drive and motivation. Destiny's motivation: to slog through 30 hours of gameplay to reach level 20 where supposedly the actual "game" begins.

    - Several big name voice actors were hired for this project, the biggest of which was Peter Dinklage to play your personal "Ghost". I have to say, the only person more bored with the game during my playthrough was Peter Dinklage. Every single line he gave was basically flat and uninspired, and I really don't blame him for this at all--the script he was given was piss poor.

    - Missions are beyond formulaic. I've played games purported to be formulaic. I even enjoyed Dragon Age II's original, crappy missions because at least I felt like I had a sense of purpose. Destiny's missions all boil down as follows: short exposition from Dinklebot during the opening loading screen that tells you why you should care, even though there's no setup so everything is out of the blue. Then you get dumped into the starting area which is identical between all missions on that planet. You go to your target, constantly activating Dinklebot to find your disappearing waypoint. You may run into monsters far above your level because you took the *wrong* direct path to your target and get splattered. Then you kill a bunch of stuff, reach a limited-respawn zone, then kill a bunch of stuff while Ghost hacks something. You kill the bullet-sponge boss, get a 30-second countdown, get 1-2 pieces of randomized loot at the end, go back to the tower.

    - PvP is a mess. Everyone's been harping on about that so I won't go much further.

    - For such a social game, there are several extremely conspicuous blunders that made them gamebreakers for me. For one, given the game is very clearly balanced for Fireteam play rather than solo, joining and inviting to Fireteams is *extremely* roundabout. Overall, during my time I sent out maybe 40 invites to Fireteams (and made my own public), and I had *one* person actually join for a few minutes. There's no local chat, *two* emotes, and so few people are in the shard/instance of your planet that odds are most people will be over-leveled or under-leveled compared to you.

    - Apparently the game only really opens up close or at level 20. I don't see how anyone can offer this as an excuse. I refuse to pay 60 dollars and 30 hours of my life on the promise that it gets better later on. Endgame is what should *keep you coming back*, not what motivates you. It baffles me how this can be offered as an excuse, as what this says is "we acknowledge that the leveling is **** the story is uninspired, and the socialization is poor."

Of course, many who praise the game accuse people like me of hating gear grind, of hating FPS/RPG hybrids, of all sorts of ad hominem things. Son, I was grinding gear in Diablo while you were being potty trained. RPGs and shooters are my gaming passion, and given how much I was promised for Destiny, it is one of the biggest let downs of all gaming time for me. It's not a bad game--it's a competent shooter. However it's laughable how Activision and Bungie are planning a ten year development cycle for this game. Unless there are serious changes (and the story is retconned and rewritten, which we all know won't happen) this game is just going to be another fizzle-out like Titanfall and Firefall.

Destiny is a first for me on two counts. It is the first game in which I managed to reach max level within two days (which did take me a while to do, I will admit) and it also marks the first pseudo MMORPG I have ever played that has truly bored me both during the climb to the end game and then after it.

As many others have noted, the fighting is largely repeated from mission to mission. There is little variation and little excitement in the plot. The gear also fails to provide that sense of achievement and awesomeness that you'd find in Borderlands (largely because there is no sense of variety in what you find and equip).

The end game raids, PVP, events, etc do mix things up a bit, but after a couple hours of any of the above, you will again be overwhelmed by a feeling of staleness and repetition.

Overall, I'd have to say the game is...pretty disappointing.

I ran some beacon missions and yes they do get repetative, the story missions are poorly narrated, the enemies act almost exactly as I remember enemies did in halo 10 years ago, but once you get into what the game is about, coming together to overcome the odds and helping out random people, it becomes fun. Whilst patrolling I died a couple of times to find random people going out of their way to revive me back into the battle.

My only letdown is that there's no in game chat options, as when patrolling it would be nice to interact with others without having to invite them to party chat.

Otherwise I'm interested to see what is expanded upon going forward, unfortunately so many people seem intent on bashing the game because it's not what they expect it could stop people that might enjoy it from even bothering to buy.

The only reason I wouldn't give this a 10 is because of the story which is typical for a shooter. Halo stories were not that good either so I wouldn't expect any more than that. This is game is inteded to play with friends or other people. For the people that are complaining about not having any friends to play with...then thats pretty sad and you should probally go out and make some.

Anyways, the game is great shooter and multiplayer is challanging and similar to Halo but with super powers. The character customization is easy to use and it doesn't take long to hop right in and play. I am currently 10 hours in and loving every bit of it. I may change the rating once I get to the end game but Im currently giving a strong 8. Maybe a 10 to get the User score right. It is just a good game to get lost in. Best shooter on consoles hands down.

I even had to stop playing the game and try to recruit some psn friends on reddit because there is an inexcusable amount of ways to communicate with anyone. After playing some of the smoother mp games like CoD and titanfall, I can't help but notice how choppy mp can be. I did like that the mp gives you a random chance to get upgrade after you finish a map. This promotes people hanging in there and not rage quitting. Overall I think this game will do really well and if they implement more communication features people might even stick around. Expand

I can easily say that the open environment on planets are awesome. let me explain... a base out in the distance..I get off my ride pull out my sniper rifle and pick out the toughest guy out of the bunch and take him out.... the others scatter looking to hide and they do a very well job of that too...I start flanking.. they notice and regroup...fight continues on or can go all guns out too but its a harder fight that way. Its borderlands and Diablo 3 item collecting added to it and it works well. love the super moves and no one mentioned the perks to your jumps, and grenades, guns with perks you unlock the more you use that gun and much much more. I love the planets each one is very memorable takes you there and draws you into the fantasy setting. I hate nothing more then a level or location that ruins the game this game doesn't do that at all. yes its not perfect cause nothing can be perfect. But from what I played its one of the best FPS I have ever had the privilege of playing. plays like Halo and that's a good thing with light MMO elements tacked on and it works in its favor. sorry cant spell for the life of me hope you understand this. what shock me the most was , no offline single player mode , I was disappointed on that aspect.
another thing , The game has a lot of repetition, and the missions are mostly the same. The characters look like their just uninterested. And finally we come to the Bosses ,

Honestly I think Borderlands 2 overall is a better game, but Borderlands 2 had a long time to add content.

As a new IP though, Destiny needs to really make itself stand out and I'm not sure if it does just yet. I could definitely see people getting bored after a month or so, and the servers going stale similar to what happened with Titanfall. The game would have definitely been a 9 in my book had there been more of a story as well, as the game pretty much feels like halo (3 factions, one that is far more "sentient" and the other that is comparable to the flood in Halo) with even less story.

TL;DR - It's an ok game that was definitely over-hyped, doesn't do anything better than similar games like Borderlands, and only time will tell if it can really keep everyone's attention for more than a few weeks, let alone spawn a franchise.

Some are complaining that this isn't Borderlands / this isn't Halo: No, it isn't. It's Destiny. C'mon now.

Lastly, a big complaint is the lack of single player and the lack of a good chat system for multiplayer... the lack of a single player may be a deal breaker for some but certainly not worth a 0 or a 1 review. Single player isn't really possible with this game given the open world idea it has going on. On your way to a mission, you'll come by plenty of other Guardians fighting off hordes, and can join in with them. Who knows, maybe they're heading in the same direction as your quest. These impromptu "fireteams" are a lot of fun to experience, especially when an optional event spawns in your map.

As far as the lack of voice chat goes, I'm with you on that one. But again, that doesn't really warrant a mass drop of the score.

Now for the people who say "NO singleplayer offline" complaint, Bungie stated this was an online game only FROM THE GET GO! If you don't want to play an online game, then don't buy an online game. I've played Borderlands, Halo, Call of Duty, Battlefield... and this game is not like any of those. But it's not meant to be. It is it's own adventrure and it is absolutely glorious. For people who complain about no cross platform, sorry that you didn't coordinate with your friends what system to get. The game has plenty of content, if you have friends it is not stop fun. I played the Alpha and the Beta, both with a level 8 cap and continued playing the game for days after I had done everything I could. Even after I found out my created character would not transfer to the real game. The matchmaking multiplayer has some balance issues, specifaclly on the moon map but I always had a blast regardless if I was playing with friends or being placed on a team with a bunch of random players. Destiny is an experience that may not be for everyone... mainly people who like to complain about life all the time. But it is a game that I will be playing for a long time... and I bet the people who reviewed negatively on here will be playing it too. Expand

The single player campaign in this game is not just repetitive it is literally the exact same scenario over and over again past the third mission, what's more the missions barely last longer than the time it takes to load the mission itself and they all take place on the same maps. You are required to grind which unfortunately leaves you watching the same unskippable cut scenes over and over again. The loot is few and far between and the games AI could do without the 'I' at the end of it, your enemies present almost no challenge to the player. The game lacks depth and the drive to finish the game is noticeably absent. This is in no small part due to the lack of story and bad voice acting, where this games campaign does shine it's soundtrack unfortunately I find myself disconnected from the server too often to appreciate it. (There is no reason this shouldn't be played offline)

The Multiplayer has potential but unfortunately there are only 4 game modes and they are already being dominated by the higher level players with access to the best weapons. Sadly being disconnected from the server mid game is something you will also have to put up with. If you're looking for a new game to replicate your old halo experiences without any of the backstory, heart or atmosphere this is the game for you unfortunately it isn't the game for me. I will be returning for a discount at a used game store.

They need to go back to the drawing board in terms of voice actors (Peter Dinklage or whoever is horrible choice). Less flavor of the month voice actors and more people that can actually portray the world you are trying to show us.

Artificial intelligence in this game is passable, but that's it. I would definitely like to see this fixed in future iterations of the game.

Delivery of the story-line is horrid, but then again your choice in voice actors may be causing this issue.

Interface within vendors and the game menu is fine, but I would like to see it a little more polished, feels a little clunky.

...well I must say, I never expected the negative reviews to be this...abundant. But you should pay more attention to the fact that there are more positive reviews than negative on this site. And it's for good reason. No, it's not worth the extreme over-hype, but It's still VERY much worth your time. I've played it since the alpha, and it's still a good game. Pay no attention to the PC players raging because they have to wait a year, pay no attention to the people who don't have steady internet access, pay attention to people who have ACTUALLY PLAYED it, instead of spectators. I'll admit, the game didn't look all too impressive by looks, but playing it is a completely different experience. And about the whole "Halo clone" concept...it has Halo elements, and you can see it, they even used a sound effect from Halo in it, I thought of it as nostalgia. It's not COMPLETELY Borderlands + Halo, but it's a mild version of it. You level up and gain attributes to your skills like Borderlands, you can get subclasses, the environment and movement feel like Halo, as well as enemies. The story may not be much to brag about...but, in an MMOFPS with RPG elements, I'm surprised people were looking for The Last of Us-tier story-telling. It wasn't made by Telltale, so try not to expect it. Overall, this game is extremely fun, and it's certainly a treat with friends. If you want to be able to talk with people, I've been invited by strangers in levels, in other words, you can make friends relatively simply, you can even just dance next to them in town (lol).

There are 3 different classes : Warlock , Titan , Hunter.
Each character has different and special abilities and this is where the game shines the most imo , The abilities are so fun to use and balanced , You may wanna create all 3 different characters to see what they all have to offer but to be honest ,They should of added more classes which would make the game much better with even greater replay value but it is still a great game either way.

The single play may get repetitive after about 10 hours of playing so you will feel the need of friends to play with you to make it better.

The multiplayer on the other hand is the best thing this game has to offer , The amount of hours you can spend in multipalyer is insane and its bloody fun , Everything in the multiplayer is well done from the voice of the British guy to the sounds of grenades and guns ,You can drive your sparrow or hop into a tank or get in a turret all of those are fun as well.

Weapons: Of course we can't talk about Destiny without talking about the weapons in it , There are a lot of variety in weapons from Pistols to shotguns to Rockets and each weapon is upgradeable and there is special ammo and special ammo the special ammo is for your primary weapon and the heavy ammo is for heavy weapons .

So is Destiny worth buying ? : the answer is if you like FPS games ,Hell yes go and buy it , IF you don't like FPS games then don't buy it . Simple as that.

The game imo deserves a 9/10 and that's due to lack of missions variety in single player and they could add more classes to the overall game , But its a great game indeed. I gave it a 10 to make things a bit balanced because as i see a lot of people are giving it a 0 , Which is stupid and trolling.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
